Ohhhh, Anon's perfect apple ask is now giving me blessed imagery of Dusknoir cutting apple slices into bunny shapes. Maybe for Opal, maybe for him to show off, either way.
The soft, the dexterity, the GENTLENESS after such a prolonged period of violence he had undergone. Opal called him her gramps for a reason, after all.

Hey how does it feel to have given me a prompt that had me tearing up all throughout the process of drawing it because of how unbearably heartfelt and endearing it is?

Thinking abt the whole ‘how dad’s treat their daughter vs how they treat their sons’ but—
Dusknoir treats Aimilios like a fragile puppy, using both of his hands when using Psychic; wrapping a soft blanket of purple aura around the riolu as to reassure him silently that he won’t drop him.
Vs him flicking Ribbons halfway across the room w/ his Psychic. (There are haybeds for cushioning) And lifting her up with a single finger bc he’s smug/confident in his abilities— and knows Ribbons doesn’t mind. (She’s too busy doing air-cartwheels to care)(But she also trusts him)

Enemies to lovers is nice, I like it, but there is nothing on this Earth that will make me more of a rabid animal than enemies to found family, and the subsequent guilt for ever having been an enemy to the one they've now vowed to protect as their own. I will shatter

I have no idea how or why my brain decided to come up with this idea while I read this post, but it's making me mentally unwell.
The idea is as follows: What if Dusknoir finds and befriends the hero before they meet Grovyle?
Like, oh my goodness gracious the POTENTIAL!!
Dusknoir finds this human child, and takes them in as a form of pity. They are weak. Incapable of defending themselves. But they deserve to have a chance to live. As miserable as a life in this world would be.
He keeps them protected and fed. They grow on him. They trust him more than anything because there was nobody else that gave them that trust. And he loves them more than he loves himself. They are his child now.
Then something unforseen happens that gets them separated. He wants so badly to search for them. But Dialga keeps threatening him. Telling him that if he does, he will make certain that those Sableye he also cares for will not live to see another moment, and he will force him to watch.
Meanwhile, the human is taken in by Grovyle. They grow quickly on him as well. They can't really understand each other, not as well as he would want, but they occasionally say something about a 'Dusknoir' he thinks. And they clearly speak about him with fondness.
Eventually, Grovyle and the Hero meet up with Celebi, who is being chased by Dusknoir. Dusknoir doesn't actually know that the human is with them until he sees them fall into the passage that turns them into a pokemon.
But the hero does know. They catch a glimpse of him while hiding at one point. It's crushing. He's tried to kill Grovyle and Celebi multiple times. They want to try to get them to understand, but Grovyle doesn't understand the language they speak. He stops them whenever they try. and they feel too scared and betrayed to approach him.
Dusknoir thinks that he killed his own child. He's sent spiraling into complete and unquestioning devotion towards Dialga. He's experienced such a horrific loss that he can never get close to anyone again. Treating the Sableye that work for him with a cold detachment that only gets worse as time goes on. He still cares for them, but he would never admit it.
Grovyle is extremely angry, because he saw the hero as a sibling. And it's clear that whenever they used to talk about Dusknoir, they did it with a fondness. So not only did he kill Grovyle's only family, he also betrayed them.
The Hero loses all of their memories, even forgetting their name, but they don't lose that feeling of betrayal they felt as a human. They are reluctant to trust the partner because of it.
Things continue like they did in eos up until Dusknoir arrives in Treasure Town.
Being around him makes the hero feel those same emotions of betrayal that they had thought that they had gotten over after becoming friends with their partner and other guild members.
Dusknoir doesn't recognize the hero. He's under the impression that they died when they entered that tampered passage. He still puts on the act, but the more eagle-eyed members of the guild can tell that it's just that. An act. They can't figure out why though.
The incident happens.
Dusknoir goes through that whole, cartoonish villain song-and-dance monolog before finally ordering the execution.
The Sableyes barely begins when he, in an uncharacteristic moment of emotion and panic, (to everyone but him) demands they stop.
He recognized the way the hero winced when the Sableye began their assault.
They're alive.
Sweet heavens above. His child is alive.
...
And then everything made sense. Why they were staying with Grovyle. Why Grovyle talked about them they way he did the few times that they did talk mid-fight. That look of utter terror on the hero's face that he refused to accept that he recognized.
He betrayed them.
Twice.
No. Three times.
First by not searching for them when they were alive.
Second by hunting them down.
And now by this.
He treated them like they were his child.
He loved them like they were his child.
And now he's the greatest evil they could ever conceive.

It's genuinely hilarious to me that Dadnoir is taking off so much in the fandom recently, considering I've been writing Dadnoir for like
-checks notes- nearly four years before now
and have been completely convinced nobody would like it

Judge, Jury, and Hero (A short piece about the pmd2 Hero's Burden)
It had taken years, but she had finally found them all. The Time Gears, she knew where they were, she knew how to save the world and prevent all this from happening. She was so close, but a monumental task stood before her.
'The Passage of Time is just ahead.'
Her eyes flicked to the hovering pink Pokemon, and she couldn't help but smile. 'Thank you, Celebi.'
Celebi giggled. 'My pleasure! I would give my life again and again to see the sunrise.'
Grovyle nodded solemnly and spoke in his surprisingly deep voice. 'We'll set things right.'
Laying a hand upon Grovyle's shoulder, she looked fondly upon her friend. 'Are you ready? If we do this, we'll disappear.'
Grovyle smiled. 'A small sacrifice. At least wherever I go, you two will be with me.'
'There it is!' Cried Celebi.
Her eyes turning forward, she saw the Passage of Time, a swirling blue and black vortex, tucked amongst lifeless trees in a sparse forest.
With nothing more than a shared look, and a nod, she and Grovyle moved towards the passage, but a voice stopped them in their tracks.
'Hoo hoo hahaha! You didn't think you'd get away, did you?'
She whipped around, unsurprised to see Dusknoir sauntering closer, flanked by three Sableye on either side.
'I won't let you change the future!' Crowed Dusknoir.
Slowly, she knelt, and pressed her forehead to the ground. From there, she called, 'I'm sorry, Dusknoir!'
'Sorry?' Scoffed Dusknoir. 'Well, apology accepted. Let's head to Temporal Tower and join Master Dialga for some afternoon tea,' he drawled.
'I think it's morning, actually,' muttered Grovyle.
'You're condemning us all!' Dusknoir gestured wildly and his voice continued to rise as he drew nearer. 'Every Pokemon here would die, because you want to see the sun?!'
Standing, she dusted herself off. 'Plenty of Pokemon died because of this. Either way, people get hurt.'
'But that doesn't have to be us!' Dusknoir released a mighty sigh and his clenched fists loosened. 'Please, don't do this.'
'We have to.'
'I don't want to die! Is that so wrong?' Dusknoir clutched at his chest and the face on his belly twisted in agony.
Feeling warm tears streak down her face, she shook her head. 'No, no it's not. I, I'm sorry.'
As much as she believed in her mission, as much as she dreamed of the sunrise, she knew Dusknoir was right. For her to change the past would cause this world to disappear. Plenty of Pokemon would have long and happy lives thanks to that, but many others would be lost.
If it was just her, she'd do it in a heartbeat. She would give herself time and again to ensure Grovyle had a future, but things weren't that simple.
'Who are you to play judge, jury and executioner!' Yelled Dusknoir.
'You're doing the same thing!' She screamed back.
Dusknoir and the girl paused, each breathing hard and watching, waiting for the other to say something, eventually, Dusknoir hid his face behind his hand. 'I'm scared!'
Biting her lip, she nodded. 'So am I.'
Rubbing his eye, Dusknoir pulled his hand away from his face and cleared his throat. 'Perhaps, in another life, we'd have been friends.'
She smiled and wiped the tears from her eyes. 'I would've liked that. I'm sorry, Dusknoir.'
Taking Grovyle's hand, they dashed towards the Passage of Time, Dusknoir hot on their heels. Celebi zipped away from the charging behemoth and watched as the girl and Grovyle leapt into the Passage of Time, Dusknoir and the Sableye diving in behind them.
The Passage of Time roared and fluctuated for a moment, before growing silent, and disappearing. Celebi watched them go and felt her heart sink.

When All is Said and Done
Cinnamon was running through Apple Woods. She could feel the wind rushing through her fur and the terror in her veins as she ran. She wasn’t sure why she was running - maybe someone was chasing her? Maybe she had to get somewhere extremely quickly and that’s why she was running? Who knew - certainly not Cinnamon.
Chip, Ace and Flame were nowhere to be found either. In fact, the entirety of Apple Woods was just… empty, which was incredibly weird. Cinnamon couldn’t stop to think about it, though. She needed to keep running.
All of a sudden, Dusknior’s voice was super close. She couldn’t make out the words, nor the emotion behind them, but her fear spiked higher and she realized that she was no longer in Apple Woods, but instead on a cliff. She skidded to a stop and whipped around, fur standing on end as she faced the looming shadow that she used to see as her dad.
She started to cry as Dusknior came ever closer, reaching out to grab her, eye into a slit and emotionless like how it was when he was trying to kill Chip and her. She was shaking, not sure what to do. On both paths lie certain death.
Finally, she sent a prayer up to Arceus for safety and jumped off the cliff, unable to face Dusknior - the Pokemon she trusted and wanted to live with, happily ever after - as he would most likely kill her. As she was going to hit the ground…
… she woke up, safe in her nest, shaking, terrified, sobbing. The first face she saw was Dusknior’s as he shook her awake, and instinctively she flinched and sobbed harder. As she registered her surroundings, though, she remembered that the betrayal had been years ago, and she was actually adopted by Dusknior to help him forgive himself for what he had done to her all those years ago.
When she finally remembered, she lept into Dusknior’s arms, burying her face into his chest as she sobbed. Dusknior didn’t ask her to explain - he could see it for himself when she was still stuck in the dreamscape mindset. Instead, he held her and rocked her slightly from side to side, whispering a lullaby that Celebi taught him.
Soon, he could feel Cinnamon’s breath steady, then slow, as she drifted off to sleep once more.

So you know how evolution isn’t a guaranteed indicator of a Pokémon’s age, as evidenced by that one episode with the really old Treecko?
Tumblr media
Applying this concept to the world of PMD yields some hilarious implications. Especially when you apply it in a post-credits PMD2 AU where the Future Trio have set up shop in the present, and we get to see Dusknoir have a crisis when he realizes he’s been hunting down a tween and a college student for the past who-knows-how-long.

TFW you realize the duo of fugitives you’ve tracked across space and time are not stupidly immature, they’re just babies

@jsab-fujii has made so much amazing Dadnoir content and now I can't stop thinking about him.
I think right when Dusknoir revealed his motivations for trying to stop them, Venus (hero) would be a lot less mad at him. Despite her being willing to sacrifice herself to save the world, she definitely understands the fear that came with it. She understands why that fear would push Dusknoir into doing everything he did. And after everything, she never stopped caring about him.

Welp, might have to go through my tumblr settings to fix that, but anyway-
favorite thing about them
His motivations. Special Episode 5 is the best thing to happen to Dusknoir, cuz it gave him so much character. At first, we all thought he was just an evil villain, but naw, he's just... scared. Like, he's a ghost type. Dying is probably no big deal to him. But being completely erased? Removed from reality? That's different. That's terrifying.
Plus, you can tell that he does care about people. He's kind to everyone in the past. He goes out of his way to save Hero and Partner from the Luxray/Manetric tribe, even though he gains nothing from it. He's a genuinely nice person. He just... doesn't want to be erased.
I love a good pure evil villain every now and then, but characters like Dusknoir will always find a place in my heart. People who aren't cruel or malicious, but misguided or scared, who just need someone to be kind and give them a second chance. Always gonna grab my heart.
least favorite thing about them
...listen man, dragging kids into the future and immediately moving to execute them isn't a good look for you. Really puts a damper on your dad vibes. Especially since Partner really wasn't a threat to your survival. Hero you can kinda justify, but c'mon man, Partner did nothing but be kind to you. They don't deserve that.
favorite line
Do I even need to say it?

brOTP
I really like the idea that Dusknoir and Partner get close. Both because it makes sense that the person he spends the most time with in the past becomes a genuine friend, and because it makes his betrayal even more heartbreaking.
OTP
I am not immune to Future Trio Polycule propaganda.
nOTP
Hmmmm... nothing comes to mind really? Dusknoir doesn't really have any ships outside of the Future Trio. Which makes sense, cuz why would he? Those three are great together!
random headcanon
I love the idea that Dusknoir used to be friends with Hero before they met Grovyle, but turned his back on them to work for Dialga once they started talking about changing the past out of fear. Just really drive that nail in a bit further, ya'know?
unpopular opinion
Listen, I love DadNoir, but I do think people can make him a bit too soft with Hero & Partner every now and then. He's still a pretty grizzled gay (That was supposed to be "guy" but I mistyped and I'm leaving it cuz it's still true but anyway). There are ways to soften him up and give him dad vibes without turning him into a puddle of marshmallow jelly.
song i associate with them
Everybody Wants to Rule the World - Tears for Fears. Especially once SE5 kicks in and we get to see who Dusky Boi really is. Talking about how nothing lasts forever, then immediately singing "Everybody wants to rule the world"? Peak vibes.
favorite picture of them
Ah c'mon, is this even a question? It's gotta be the classic.
