great words gifted from Ef Barun .. and how apt they are .. earn it boss, earn it .. jealousy you must earn .. and each day we are earning .. 

music is the food of late night creations .. impromptu, irrelevant but so apt .. much like the genius of many that never realised what they were designing .. and there are examples of such in the annals of music history .. a great composer I know designed a symphony on paper .. never played what he had written .. never heard it .. but it was sent to a philharmonic orchestra overseas .. to London .. and on the day of its recital, in an event he was invited and he heard the symphony being played for the first time .. 

he wept like a child, to the brilliance of his own creation .. never heard before , never ever played it .. yet ..

Brilliance ...

this brilliance infests itself into us at times and the immediate or instinctive music that gushes out is the result of just being together to appreciate each others cooperative effort .. and at times the comedic impact of the creation ..

.... and it plays for me as I write  .. so much hilarity and laughter .. only to be shared by them that accompany me .. NEVER to go out .. never .. for they will never understand the reason and the cause and the immediate, informal, on the spot creation without knowing what is going to come out .. and then the surprise of its making .. the collective effort and the immense reference to situations .. 

वो ढोलक का ठेका जब बजता है तो बता नहीं सकते हम की क्या होता है  , बस सब माल निकल आता है  

the tall of the dholak is the inspiration behind the music that emanates willfully and in the unown  ....

it now approaches almost 5 am .. and the desire to carry on is supreme .. I have yet to sleep, but who the hell cares .. Ef is more important  .. so ..

there is envy .. and jealousy .. to not have what they have .. they lead a pleasured life .. and my life suffers .. the alternatives have ever been the reason .. they can do, I can’t .. so I need to be in an alternative .. 

and music brings that alternative from them  .. they shall give me the strength of belief with guidance and quality .. and that is what I do not have .. so I shall soon find one and perhaps then .. the envy shall be crushed by the learning of the alternative shall survive and breed ..

Breed .. 

for we want the need to be through generations .. generations that shall look back to my LIFE .. and the envy of the household shall abate .. and the theka shall stop appropriately ..

 LIFE .. shall survive .. that particular LIFE shall .. survive .. and to hell with all the other baggage .. its weight is getting too heavy to carry .. 

time to bring the new instruments down to the recordings of LIFE .. and to learn lessons on fresh instruments .. to play .. 

Play baby play .. for they shall bring the joy of playing that instrument, live

from a (half) south asian american who's dark skinned, i think one of the best examples of south asian representation in video games as of recent is frye from splatoon 3.

i think they did so many things great with her. even though she's not really desi considering human culture has been extinct for over 1000 years in the splatoon universe, they did a great portrayal of her as a south asian. the inclusion of her dark skin really adds to that, because as someone who's half south indian, with dark skin, colorism and racism against dark skinned ppl in south asia is a really big issue, and is rooted in the caste system. and even though i doubt the inclusion of her dark skin was meant to break that stigma and stereotyping, it really adds to her regardless!

some other great examples of south asian influence in frye that makes her great rep:

- her singing in splatoon 3 is based on indian vocal music, especially carnatic (south indian) music. there's also traditional indian instruments such as sitar/veena, dholak, and nadaswaram used in songs where she performs. her dancing performance is also reminiscent of indian dances like bharatanatyam, odissi, and kuchipudi.

- her fighting style in her boss battle is based off of snake charming, using a pungi flute to control her moray eels to fight the player, in a manner similar to snake charming

- her outfit is based off of western-south asian or indo-western fashion and clothing, wearing a dupatta over what looks like a choli, and her pants resemble patiala pants. her headpiece also resembles mango chutney or another south asian condiment

- the locker decoration received from story mode that depicts her, sunken scroll 11, is based off of traditional indian art, especially from south india. the pose she strikes and the surrounding motifs are reminiscent of south indian and sri lankan sculpture and art depicting hindu figures; an example of a work of art similar to this depiction of frye is the bronze statue Shiva Natarāja, depicting the god shiva as nataraja, the cosmic lord of dance.

- and although i don't know for sure if her big forehead is based in south asian traditional beauty traditions, i still think it adds to her greatly as south asian representation. video game characters from any underrepresented culture are often depicted under western beauty standards, and frye's appearance that defies both western beauty standards AND colorist standards of south asian beauty truly makes her a great example of south asian rep in video games.

There are some aspects of a quiet village life you really can't ever describe well enough -

that feeling of swinging on the saawan ka jhoola that hangs on the sturdiest branch of that centuries old banyan tree

Evenings when the village ladies gather under the tree with a dholak and sing fagua or kajri or when that one pretty girl dances to a thumri and it feels like the time has slowed down

when you see actual peacocks dancing in the crop fields while the first rain of Monsoon hits the yield

when you tag along with your mum at 6 in the morning to the Shiv mandir in the middle of the village

and at night you snuggle up to your favourite aunt while she lists out folklores for you to choose as your bedtime tale for the night

And then your holidays are over just like that. You are physically back in the city but somewhere the kajri sung by your grandma still drags you back to the green fields where the peacocks danced

I’ve been binging a lot of Kishore Kumar songs/movies during the past days and . Wow. I did not know that it was possible to give expressions from mere voice until now. Apart from being what is probably the most melodious male singer I’ve ever heard, I can hear the Joy when he says Jhoom jhoom kauwa bhi dholak bajae, Fun in Ek Chatur Nar, Sadness in Koi humdum na rha, Love in Pal bhar ke liye koi hume pyaar kar de. Heck even the infatuation in his voice when he sings Ek ladki bheegi bhaagi si, as if this man does not completely need pace and composition and all to make his songs sound a certain way, and his own vocal abilities can enhance to the feel. He literally sang a song about 5 rupya 12 aana and somehow made it feel exactly like what something with that name should feel like, like how💀

I’ve heard many brilliant singers from Mukesh to Md. Rafi to even present day wonders like Sonu Nigam (who is also another man who seems to posses this ability) but I’ve never heard anyone else who made me feel like he was living the art as much as this man. This guy was so talented he could write scripts, act, and sing in his own movies and do all of that with perfection.

I have no idea why I wrote this here but I felt like I needed to let the world know that it is a big old crime to sleep on this man’s talents.

and whenever we hear today's RJs and masses, it surprises us how just about everyone ends upon the legendary kishore da, as if he were a contemporary.

which he is and always will be.

relevance isn't a word in kishor da's dictionary, because he never loses it.
