and i sing of dionysus — o! ivy-crowned god with a smile as dark as the secrets he  keeps. i sing and i dance, a flurry of humanity let loose until i am joy unbound! the bindings  cannot hold me just as they could not hold you!  sweet-smelling god, i ask you to bless me as  you bless the vines of the wood. may i grow  unfettered, reaching up, up, up! may my voice be loud! may my body shift and change! and may this change be a blessing unto you! oh, dark-curled god, flushed with wine and eternal youth — may  i bloom, bloom, and bloom! give me the will to  never back away from the awe-struck joy that it is to be alive — may i never shrink but only grow as you grew from impossibility. may i find favor in your heart & may your hands turn my meekness into wild opportunity.

being pagan is wild, because I've been trying to figure out how to honor Dionysus for a while and the solution was to dance wildly and scream in the woods.

Sweet is the pleasure the god brings us in the mountains, when from the running revelers, he falls to the ground clad in his sacred fawnskin. […] Hail to the Roaring God, Bromios our leader! Euoi! The ground flows with milk, flows with wine, flows with the nectar of bees. —Euripides, Bacchae
The Villa of the Mysteries! I had to go out of my way for this, missing most of the Pompeii tour, but it was completely worth it! These paintings depict a Dionysian initiation rite, and there are some other remarkable paintings in the rest of the house. I was not expecting to see syncretic Egyptian ones!
I also met another a Dionysian irl! The owner of the nearby restaurant turned out to be a shaman to whom Bacchus speaks. He was thrilled to meet someone else who understood that Bacchus isn’t just a god of wine.
Praise Dionysus!

I made some tea inspired by Dionysus. It is kind of a version of sun tea and I decided to name it Taste of Dionysus. It is quite delicious and it does look a lot like red wine.
🍇🍇🍇🍇Taste of Dionysus 🍇🍇🍇🍇
Ingredients :
-Jar or pitcher with a lid
-Rosehip
-Elderberry
-Black currant black tea
-Chamomile
-Honey
Optional: lemon slices or juice, hibiscus
Instructions:
1) Put approximately a few teaspoons or one tablespoon each with the following tea and herbs in your jar, then fill with water and screw on the lid.
2) Leave your tea jar in a spot of sunlight or on the windowsill for approximately 3-5 hours or more. You can just also put it in the fridge for iced tea. Once brewed, put honey in and lemon if desired. You should get a dark red color close to the color of wine.
Note:
-You can drink in the cup of your choice or if you feel extra fancy, drink it in a wine glass!
-For an extra Dionysian flair, mix in a little tequila, vodka, or the like.
Enjoy!! Hail Dionysus!!🍇🍇🍇🍇🍇

30 days of deity devotion
Tumblr media
Day 2: How did you first become aware of this deity?
It’s hard to pin point when I first became aware of Dionysus. I think my first memory of really being interested in him was my junior year in high school. I had been practicing paganism and witchcraft since my freshman year so I wasn’t new to the concept. Since maybe 2nd grade I knew of Dionysus(I was that one weird kid obsessed with mythology), but I wasn’t worshipping him or really any deity yet. I was a theater kid and for my junior year production we did Percy Jackson the musical. (Luckily the club had multiple pagans and a great director so we were able to perform it respectfully) Back then I had a crush on my friend who was playing Mr D. Aka Dionysus. And that somehow transitioned to me being obsessed with Dionysus. And after a year of researching and praying to him I finally decided to devote myself to him. Shoutout to that friend, without you I wouldn’t be where I am now.
