I guess a rainy day was technically the right weather for pictures of my little mushroom.

But honestly, this is the only ok photo I got that day, and it wasn't a very fun moment due to mud and everything being wet. If I hadn't been so impatient/frustrated by two weeks of non stop rain, I wouldn't have bothered.

Yesterday I finally took some photos of Caspar and the raven. I decided to show Caspar as a fighter. He's skilled with daggers and sabre. He's a wanderer so he has to protect himself from villains and dangerous creatures. He also has a mysterious guardian - a raven watching him from afar. That raven has metallic shiny feathers and ruby eyes. Caspar doesn't know why the bird follows him but somehow he feels the raven's not evil.

I have to say it's very tricky to find decent props at a good price. Since I couldn't find 1/4 scale daggers, I had to use some metal charms. The miniature replica of Polish sabre from 1921 looks much better, though it's too heavy for the doll to wield it. The raven's also too small for my boy. I suppose the perspective can do the trick in the photos. I customised the bird a little. I used copper antique paste on its feathers and painted the eyes ruby red. Well, it's actually more magenta but since natural rubies do have such hue, I guess it's OK. Nevertheless, I like how it all turned out.

🦌🌿Here's a small look into the process of turning my character Faun, into a bjd doll using the Dollchateau Violet sculpt. What the vid doesn't show you is that I wiped his face up at least 5+ times trying to figure out how to replicate my drawing. 😆 I have so much respect for ppl who have incredible faceup and sculpture skills. They have a level of patience and trust in their work that I need to practice much like traditional ink line work where it's not forgiving to go back and undo. There are some bits I left unfinished as I still have to sealant spray the ears, face plate, body blush (except I haven't figured out stringing and assembly), order the wig, glue magnets for the sculpey horns, and then add a little uv resin to complete the eyes(if I use them). Last week, I came across a two-month old sales post for a hybrid doll. The post mentioned that both the head and body could be sold separately, which was perfect, since I was looking for a body for my Benetia head. The seller asked a very reasonable price and I immediately contacted them about the body. However, just ten minutes after they promised to send me the payment information later that evening, they said that there was already a buyer for both the head and body.

This was quite frustrating, as the post had been up for over two months and I couldn't believe that someone had just happened to buy the whole doll right after I expressed my interest in the body.

If I had seen the post a few days earlier, I could have had this body.

And there are two other bodies for sale that I like. Dollstown elf and Dollchateau boy body. Both are wonderful and quite pricey. And DSAM 32 body. It's like some kind of bad joke. Just when I promised that I won't buy any more doll in the near future, here they are, popping up like mushrooms after rain.

My big aims for 2024 is to use my supplies more, and try to get all my dolls photo ready (and also to just try to do more new things in general)

I've been a lot on pinterest, looking for outfit ideas for my dolls, and I've been exposed to a lot of mushroom hats, making me want to try my hand at one.

The project was... Ok ? It was interesting to brainstorm this, and to use some supplies I've had around for literally years in some cases. But I'm also dissatisfied with the end result. It feels full of mistakes (starting with the fact I intended it to be for a bigger doll, but I made the hat too small somehow) (actually the dress is also much smaller than intended, it wasn't meant to fit so close to the body)

The technique I used to make the hat also wasn't the best, and now the underlying structure is more visible than I would like. At the same time, I did have fun putting on all those beads.

In the end tho, it was my first time trying something like this, so I guess I should not judge myself too harshly? I'll just have to do better next time. And also, I'm happy that the hat ended up on that doll. It's one I like a lot, part of the reason I got back into bjd in 2018/19, but its peculiar body was very hard to dress, so I never did much with it. But being a little mushroom is fun and suits them! I might even try to take them for photos in the park later this week.
