this is sort of pathetic, but when you were younger, you were sort of puzzled by the cartoon representations of fathers: how a kid would be outside with a mitt, waiting to play catch.
it's not that your father never played catch with you, but you also didn't like when he did. something about a hard ball coming quickly towards your face doesn't seem exciting. not that you'd ever say you don't trust him. you trust him, right?
it's not like he never tried to teach you anything. or never tried to parent. on rare days, a strange person would walk in your father's skin. bright, happy, magnificent. this version of your father was so cheerful and charismatic that you would do anything to keep him. and this is the version of your father that would laugh and gently coax you try again. this is the version of your father that would break down the small elements of a problem and point them out so you have an easier time with them.
as a kid, those days happened more often. but somewhere around 11, you started being too much of a person, and he was often cross about it. when he'd try to sit you down to learn something, you spent the whole time with your shoulders around your ears, nervous, uncertain. terrified because you didn't immediately understand how to navigate something. worried you will run out of his goodwill and then you will have the Other Father back, and you will have ruined a good day for your entire family. something about you being visibly afraid - it just made him angry. he would accuse you of not wanting to learn and storm away.
on tv, it's not like there's a lot of versions of men-who-are-mostly-fathers. they can be good dads, but usually their stories are not told in the household. so it's normal that your father is there, but he's never around. you know he was in the house, somewhere, it's just not that you guys ever... "hung out". he just seemed to get kind of bored of you, annoyed you weren't made in his perfect image. frustrated with how much energy it took to raise a kid. over time, you kind of adopt a bittersweet band around your throat - he knows nothing about me. he says at least i never abandoned my family.
and it's technically - technically - true. he was there for you. sometimes he even made an effort and made it to the big moments; the graduations and the dance recitals. he grins and tells everyone that he taught you. it almost erases the days in between, where he complains because you need a ride to school. the weeks that go by where he doesn't actually ever speak to you. the times you say i am struggling and he says figure it out on your own. i can't help you.
and that's fine! that's all fine. you can call him if you are having a problem with your car. or if you need a ride to the hospital. he loves playing hero, he just doesn't like the actual work that comes with being a father. and you've kind of made your peace with that; because you had to, because you don't want to live your life like he does; the whole world at a managed distance, a little rotating and controlled orb he can witness and take credit for but never truly love.
as an adult, you are rewatching some dumb cartoon - and again, the child standing in the rain, with a mitt, waiting for their father to come play catch. as an adult, there's this strange creeping dread - this little thing? this little thing, and their dad can't even show up for that? oh god, holyshit, it's not about the mitt, is it. oh god, holyshit, your father spent most of your life leaving you hanging.

> FERDINAND II.
Tumblr media
And so your PLANT shall henceforth be known as FERDINAND II.
Tumblr media
The thought of needing to inform FERDINAND I of his having a namesake makes you a bit ill, but you are already hard at work devising several plausible excuses for the gesture. Something about how you've named it after the one most invested in its naming, or how it is similarly prone to drooling. Yes. Yes, you will be able to deflect quite easily, should the need arise. It has nothing to do with your fondness for FERDINAND or your desire for a substitute in his imminent absence, no—again, you are not so prone to sentimentality. It's about the drool.
Well, anyway. Best to move on with your day and think about something else, lest you grow maudlin or cultivate further affection for the PLANT. May the GODDESS be merciful and never cause you to develop inclinations that could be described as paternal.
Now that your plant has received sufficient care, it is time for COFFEE. You set to making your morning brew. By CHANCE, there happens to be sufficient water remaining in the kettle for FERDINAND I to have TEA, should he wish it.
Per your TIMEPIECE, it is now a quarter to eight. You have made excellent progress on your PRE-BREAKFAST TO-DO LIST thus far: the only remaining task is to remove FERDINAND. You are starting to get rather peckish and would like to be rid of him quickly, but over the past week, you have found that extracting the man from YOUR QUARTERS is a more arduous task than it ought to be.

Okay, I ranted about it in my tags of another post, but I'll say it here. And I know some of you ain't gonna like it.
The amount of hate Mei Mei gets is an example of how people can't actually handle complex and/or evil female characters.
Now before anyone says anything, I'm not saying you should like Mei Mei or you shouldn't hate her. Just really think about what I'm about to say next.
Do you hate Mei Mei because of her character (how she treats people, her personality, etc,)? Or do you hate her because she's a woman?
If it's the former, think about this and see if your answer changes.
Think about all the male characters you like that are complex and/or evil and why you like them. Did your answer change? In fact, do you like a male character worse than Mei Mei?
Now, here's the thing.
It's really odd to me that people will be like "we need more complex female characters" and yet when we get those female characters, the fandom acts like they shouldn't exist.
"Oh, she's a bitch."
"She should die."
"She deserves all the pain and suffering."
And yet, male characters who are just as bad or worse easily can get people glazing the hell out of them and dropping panties. Where is that same hating ass energy? Don't you want the male character to die, too?
That's an issue. Do you see the issue?
Still using Mei Mei as an example.
I doubt, I do, that Gege intends for people to like Mei Mei. Quite the opposite. The way her scenes are written and drawn makes me feel like the mangaka wants us to feel intimidated by her in a bad way. We're supposed to feel uncomfortable by her relationship with Ui Ui. We should feel some hate towards her.
However, not because she's a woman. It's because of her character. She's not written to be a good person.
This is going to sound awkward, but if you hate Mei Mei because she makes you uncomfortable gender be damned, then you're hating her right.
You hate her now just as you would if she was a man.
I'll use Sukuna for example for comparison. He does has his fans (as does Mei Mei), but he does have his haters.
However, it's not because he's a man. People don't hate him because he's a man.
It's because he's downright damn evil. He murders, he tortures, he uses and abuses, he doesn't care who you are he'll cut you down. The only person we know Sukuna actually never wants to kill and never shown any sort of annoyance to is Uraume. People say Gege is glazing Sukuna and are mad because it seems he keeps winning, but has no one stop to think THAT'S THE POINT?!
You're supposed to be frustrated that Sukuna is still around. Gege keeps throwing Sukuna in our faces to make the audience mad. Not to troll. It's how stories work. You should feel different emotions. Especially with bad people like Sukuna.
If Gege wanted us to sympathize with Sukuna, Sukuna would have been gotten his sad backstory. But no, when there was a chance for that (fight with Hajime), we get a line of Sukuna saying he was unwanted or whatever and him just brushing it off. That right there is a sign of an explicitly evil, unsympathetic villain. (We might get a sad backstory later, you knows, but I kinda doubt it.)
Now apply all that I just said about Sukuna to Mei Mei and rethink over this.
Do you hate Mei Mei because she's a woman or because she's a bad person?
To end, can you actually handle complex female characters? Can you hate a female character who is evil or ambiguously evil and/or complex because that's how the author may intended (or she just isn't your kind of character) and not because she's female?

x if anything about this feels like it doesn't fit, that's because you don't understand the profound effect charoum and gorty have had on each other.
#'vinnie why is gortash's icon a pink crown that says 'princess' on it?'#how about we stop talking for a little while.#key points: i don't think you can want to become archduke of bg and NOT crave attention. he wants to be the specialest guy in the universe#however his desire for attention is an ego thing.#charoum wants attention because he am feel uncomfortable when things are not about him?#similarly gorty is definitely MORE cautious than charoum. but you can't be TOO cautious and also want to take over the world.#recklessness is required to accomplish big things.#charoum is overconfident and believes he can be reckless and survive so he's further on the scale than gorty#similarly taking over the world is not something a typically exhausted person undertakes. that requires energy.#kinky/vanilla TBH i don't think gorty particularly cares. he needs to be mentally engaged. everything else depends on the other person#that said i don't think he'd be mentally engaged with a person who's ideal sex life is missionary sex with the lights off. so.#also jealousy: neither of them is ACTUALLY that jealous because they have egos the size of the sun and are certain they hold an important#place in each other's lives#charoum randomly decides to get jealous when he's bored and in the mood to be annoying#gorty almost full stop doesn't get jealous at all. although he will get possessive at times and force that onto charoum#which i'm lumping into the jealousy stat#ascended astarion i GENUINELY don't think has what it takes to worship anybody.#however there's a hole in the triumvirate that needs filling. and by god if ascended astarion doesn't know how to fill a hole-#charoum

Albatross messing with Fathom by telling him that one claw had more magic than all the others is the cutest moment in the series
It is!! I love that scene so much. Albatross is so excited to teach Fathom and Fathom is so new and inexperienced that he just believes anything. But it's a silly joke! Fathom and Albatross laugh about it. Albatross loves his grandson and Fathom loves his grandfather. They're so sweet and cute together...

What are your favorite Wanda Maximoff moments in the MCU?
Oh, an excuse to fangirl over Wanda. Awesome.
So I have to pick only a few because I think every scene where she's on-screen is a favourite, but I want to start with how absolutely badass she is in EG
Tumblr media
That mixed with the red magic is just perfect. She wasn't holding back and I enjoyed every second of it. Just look at this!
Tumblr media
She could have defeated Thanos single-handedly and I would have watched the hell out of it.
I love her whole scene with Vision here and more specifically, this line:
Tumblr media
This is pure headcanon, but a little before her conversation with Vis she was feeling guilty over Lagos. I think, if this chat had happened right after she watched the news, she would have instantly thought Vision was talking about the safety of others. But, Steve comforted her and she internalized it, so at this point when Vision says "it's about safety" she goes "Oh, I'm not a danger so he means he's worried about my own safety". This is personal interpretation of course, and a pure headcanon, but it goes well with...
Tumblr media
I love that line. Also, this is a second part to AoU's heroism chat with Clint. She loves Vision and doesn't like having to do this, but she does it because she knows something bigger than herself is going on and she's willing to hurt the man she loves to do what's right. If that's not heroic, then what is it...
Tumblr media
I love everything about this one. Her accent, the look on her face, and probably her guilt in not even trying to save herself but burying herself with Ultron if that's what it takes as she's in such pain.
And of course this conversation with Ultron:
Tumblr media
I left WandaVision for last because it's so good... how am I going to pick just one or two moments?!!
Okay, besides the obvious ones... the entirety of ep8 but I'm going to say this scene in particular:
Tumblr media
"I know you have him, please. When I came back, he was gone. His body. And I know he's here. He deserves a funeral, at least. I deserve it."
I love the way Liz says that. And I really like how she's doing this nicely, but once she's granted access she's like "yeah, I'm going to open the doors with my magic to prove to you all that I could have stormed here and gotten whatever I wanted, but I was nice enough to ask."
And this scene too cause hey, our girl isn't always a good one...
Tumblr media
... but I'll be damned if I don't love this scene from beginning to end. I love Wanda when she's good and I love her when she's not.
