The sunrays shine through the jade leaves, pink blossoms dangling off branches while they merge with the amethyst lavenders dancing with the wind.

You’re laid down, a book halfway on your face, locates in the midsts of the lilacs tickling your cheeks just as a white butterfly flaps its wings and does waved-shaped patterns in the sky.

You’d never thought that this was the place you were going to meet your soulmate, it was so perfect it didn’t feel like it existed.

Its beauty brought the garden of eden to shame.

So you sit up, finding the stone pathway to the bridge painted in ruby and dark wood to stare at the running waterfall, refreshing the rocks guiding the stream and splashing like crystals in the sunlight, like a sheet of darkness in moonlight.

Another butterfly passes, an azure one, looking as pretty as ever, catching your eye so much that you just had to turn and watch it fly away, but here’s where things get fuzzy.

Silver rimmed glasses. Soft, raven hair. Rosy cheeks and lips. Dreamboat smile.

It’s like this in every dream; that same sequence.

These fragments were of your soulmate, knowing it was him as the time passed because he’d be growing up while still playing that same sequence over and over again.

The dream ends and you’re awake, laying in bed for a few more minutes to ponder about your soulmate. Who is he? Where are you going to meet?

But the day starts nevertheless and you have to catch the train quickly. You were going to somewhere special to relieve yourself in as it was recommended by a friend.

Though the train ride was long, it went quicker by surprise. You hopped off, following some people who were going to your desired spot too, finding the enterance of where to go. It was a nature park, a very beautiful one at that.

Once getting in, you wander around and enjoy the pleasing wonders nature truly brings. green-leaved trees, lilac flowers, that wooden bridge painted in lipstick red, the scenic view of the gush of water behind looking picture-esque.

Refusing to connect the dots you slowly approach the aged bridge, hanging your arms over the beams as you welcome in that breath of fresh air hitting your face.

Just then, a butterfly painted in sapphire lands on your the tip of nose. Watching it closely, cross-eyed, you grin, slowly turning it into a giggle as its small legs move on your nose before flying away completely, causing you to laugh.

“Your laugh is so adorable.”

“Excuse me?” You murmur, standing up properly. A boy stands in front of you along with a smile playing on his lips, ebony hair bounced on his hesd.

“I couldn’t help it, I apologise. You just looked very immersed with that butterfly for a second.” You huff an ah in understandment. He nudges his glasses, eyes switching to the waterfall quickly. “Mind if I stay here?”

“Of course not,” moving for the male, he leans on the bar, lost in the sounds of the waterfall rattling it’s soothing tones, “are you here with others?”

“On my own. I used to go here with my friends a lot, but we got older and eventually stopped coming with me. They always say oh, we’ll go next time Wonwoo, but they never do. It’s fine though.” He laughs easily. “You?”

“Alone.” You nod back at him.

“Wanna know why I come here a lot?”

“Hm, sure. Why here?”

“I’ll meet my soulmate here.”

“Oh. Wow,” is all you can manage, “I’m assuming theres no luck?”

“No but I’m still hoping. I’d come back here everyday to meet them one day.”

He’s facing you now, a confident, love-filled aura around him, the silver parts of his glasses shining in the sun. “I’m sure you will—”

Unexpectedly, Wonwoo turns frozen, a rush given in his body. You have no clue what’s happening but you call out the male’s name a few more times to make sure he’s alright. After a minute he comes back from his state, huffing in disbelief as a hand gradually reaches his heart.

“Wonwoo? Was everything okay back there?” Wonwoo bobs his head, eyes continuing to be star-struck, biting his lip to stop a twitching smile.

“Oh my god,” he whispers

“‘Oh my god’ what—“

Somehow, you have an out of body experience, back at your dream palace, standing on the bridge as you turn to expect the fragments come next.

They don’t.

Instead they build a slow image, knitting these images together before a glow comes and fits everything in place, revealing your soulmate.

so he was pretty excited when he got his initials

he was actually with renjun when it happened

and as they were walking in, someone was walking out

every once in a while i will meet someone and get this all-consuming feeling that we were in love in another life. i usually only ever get to know them on a very surface level, but feel like ive known them for years. like i learned everything about them in a different world, and it was just within reach if i could only get them to see what i could see. i dont think any of them has ever felt the same.

the first was a boy that i had met when visiting my family down south. i had known him as a child during brief visits once a year, but id never really talked to him until the very last day of one of my trips three summers ago. we sat together—talking and laughing by the pool, innocently flirting at dinner, making awkward goodbyes by the car—and i bubbled with excitement and anxiety as i thought about the next time we would meet. we texted for months after that, but the distance fizzled us out and i was left with the one memory i had and the fantasy of what could be.

it was colder the next time. i only saw him once that year, and it was awkward and quick. friendly greeting, no goodbye.

last summer was different, though. i saw him a lot at first, but i was busy every minute of every day and we hardly had time to speak until the beach day. a big group of people all met at the beach, and i had a total of fifteen minutes that i was free to talk with whoever i wanted. we sat on dirty towels, burying our feet in the pale sand with our backs to the water, looking out at the snow peaked mountain that stood above. we laughed just as we had before, and it reminded me of my stupid feelings. i felt very at home in those moments, and i knew with all of my being that if we lived in the same state we would have been really happy. 

i dont know if i am ever going to see him again. if i dont, im okay with how it ended.

my second soulmate was a girl that we moved in next to last year, who probably doesnt remember my name and who i have only actually had one conversation with. besides when she came by to see if we were okay when rainwater flooded our garage, or when we would be leaving as she got home and she would wave at us to ask how we were doing, or when we bumped into each other at a party and i didnt recognize her because i was just a little too fucking inebriated, or when she served us at our favorite little italian restaurant and she told me i should totally apply because she makes bank on tip money. no, this conversation was different. maybe just as trivial, but this time we were alone. she was sitting in front of her garage with a toolbox and a vape pod (i had never thought vaping was attractive until i saw her absentmindedly take a hit, and then quickly blow the vapor out and put the pod down like she didnt even realize she had picked it up) and i was just getting home from a particularly sweaty day at work. she called me over to sit with her. we didnt talk about anything important, but i could tell she had a lot she wanted to say and no one to say it to. i felt like everything i could ever know about her was right within reach, i just needed to crack open the gates. as i was trying to decide whether or not to ask something that i probably would have regretted asking, her friend pulled into the driveway. i stood up and went back home.

the third one is the stupidest. he trained me on my first day in a new position at work. he is a few years older than me, he must be at least in his twenties. i have always thought he was 26, but i dont know if that’s true. at first i couldnt tell if i just respected him in a “please accept me as good enough because my father never told me he was proud of me” way, or a “please take me seriously because i want to fuck you” way. i started checking all the time if i was scheduled a shift with him, and i remember how my fingers would shake as i waited for the page to load. i started thinking about him all the time, and what it would be like if we were together, but i was too embarrassed to admit it to anyone and was too shy to have any sort of real conversation with him, which is out of character for me. my heart hurt when he would leave the room. 

i would observe him a lot, because random social functions would throw us into the same parties and day trips, and i felt like i understood him on a level that really intrigued me. just like with the others, i wanted to sit down and listen to everything he could possibly say about anything. for some reason i was still too fucking shy around him to make him think of me as anything more than a coworker, though.

the last shift i ever worked with him, i had a panic attack right before i got to work. i tried really hard to put my customer service face on, but i was noticeably spacey for my whole shift. it had me spiraling; i felt like a failure in front of him and i couldnt do anything right. no one could ever know that, though, so i kept distracting myself so i could blink back tears, and then move on like nothing was wrong. that was my last week at that job, and i am never going to see him again. its probably for the best.

the last one makes me feel icky. thinking about him now is making my chest bubble and my ears pound.

during my senior year i had to go to a college campus for one of my classes for a few months. it was a night class so it was mostly filled with adults, but there was this one really hot guy covered in tattoos, who i pegged to be around 21. he had soft blonde hair and light scruff. we wore faded jeans that fit him nicely and an oversized jumper, so the only tats visible were on his hand and the one behind his ear. it made him look tough but gentle. he asked for my number and i gave it to him. he said he was drawn to me for some reason. it felt like fate, because i felt exactly the same way. 

i never really get crushes on people. i know a lot of people—i use tinder, i meet people at parties, i even sometimes go on dates—but i never really feel attracted to people. whether its a hot guy that i see on the street, or a really nice girl that makes me laugh, or someone i can sit down with and talk to for hours. that’s why when i get these feelings for these few people that i barely know, it feels like it’s something more than a crush. so when he told me he was thirty and he thought i was really hot for my age, i wanted to believe that it was still fate, and that i wouldnt just feel like this for no reason. i let him say things to me that i would normally ghost someone over, and i tried to convince myself that it was normal.

nothing extraordinary or exciting ever came of this. i quickly realized that a man that was 13 years older should not be texting like this to me, so i told him i wasnt going to work out and blocked his number in a way that required the least amount of confrontation. i brought pepper spray to school with me every day after that.

anyway. i dont know what any of this means, if it means anything. maybe these were all just normal ass crushes, and if i was just a little bit less scared of my emotions i would have a real story. or maybe people are just more connected than we think.

how i knew he was my soulmate.

so i developed a crush on my boyfriend (obvi. before he was my boyfriend) circa late 2011. he was the first love of a friend of mine at the time. she used to tell me and this other girl things that occurred during their subsequent on/off relationship. it sounds really fucked up but i honestly found him cute, the middle school i went to was a few blocks away from his home. so whenever i got out the train station to get to school, i'd see him walking past me. when i tell you he was the cutest guy on earth to me, i am not lying. he looked like a typical mixed bad boy, yet he seemed so mysterious. his inky black curly hair that used to fall right on his face made my heart skip beats. despite him being a sophomore in high school, and me a senior in middle school; his piercings, plump lips & obvious array of tattoos was a turn on in my freaky teenaged 13.75 year old mind. i knew it was wrong to like him because of my budding friendship. and i knew i would be the last girl on earth he'd ever want to date due to my thin hair (due to perming yet it was still at good length), my braces, my glasses, my thin frame, small breasts and most of all my bushy eyebrows. looking back at it, it's all so ironic. in my opinion, irony played a huge part in our relationship because i always wondered.... what if one day in some strange universe, it was me & him in a loving relationship?, what if he has a crush on me too?. before then he didn't even know who i was except his ex's nosey friend. guessing because i used to ask a lot of questions abt their relationship, when she was just ready to spill it out. i never used her friendship to get to him, it all just happened in some weird miraculous way. as my crush on him developed, we would have short decent conversations on facebook. he would ask me a certain question frequently too when do you wanna chill?. i would be so nervous to answer, telling him soon & that i'd just lie to my parents abt where im going. i told my friend about our conversations not to start an issue but to just tell her. maybe he just wants to be my friend. one day when my friend was absent from school, i was sitting with my best friend and a mutual friend of ours at lunch. come to find out that my so-called friend was talking about me behind my back. stating numerous things, and one of them being that i was a liar stating that her ex did not want to hang out with me, and he never said that. i grew so tired of her shit, and disrespect for me so one day i blew up. we got into what almost would have been my first fight. not giving one fuck anymore, i was happy i got rid of that drama... so that i thought. a week or so after the chaos, i wanted to hang out with an old friend from elementary school, but she didn't respond. so guess who i asked? you got that right. him, the cutest guy on earth. not even caring who's ex it was. i decided to hit him up and ask if he wanted to come with me to get a few things from the clothing stores near my house. we met up at the train station, and when i saw him. oh my god. i was frazzled, i was anxious, and i was shaky as fuck. he was so cute in his black leather jacket & short curly cut. i didn't know what to say, or else he would think im too boring or too weird ya know? we ended up having good conversations, and laughing. at the end of our time together and we said our goodbyes, i was happy because i gained a friend, a very cute one. later on that day, i never would have thought our new found friendship could possibly change. with one message made my whole day. yeah lol i think your cute too. when i tell you i was so happy? ugh i was happier than spongebob when him in patrick found the key to the patty mobile in the very first movie. i was jumping for joy, i even started kissing & hugging my sister because i was super happy. after that we started hanging out more and more, and our conversations got more personal. eventually i shared my first kiss with him and my innocence. we started dating, and five years, five months & 3 days later, i never could be more happy with the person im with. i never been in love with someone as much as i am him. he irks my last fucking nerve but he is truly a gift from god. he opened up to me as much as i opened up to him. we share secrets, and with those secrets we try to understand each other more than we did before. with help and worldly advice from his mom and grandma, we try to work through or issues. although sometimes it goes through one ear and out of the other. i literally grew up with this guy as he's seen me through my worst and my happiest. he gives me tough love and even though i don't show that i do, i really appreciate it. his advice and tough words have helped and sometimes haven't lol. he is the only person in this whole world that can make me so angry but with one stare i instantly start smiling again. we have our issues, like any person does. i say things i don't mean like he does, we argue, we cry, we laugh & we love. i realized christopher marty was my soulmate the day that he really opened up to me. we were in his room at home and his just let everything out. i looked at him and just thought wow, he really loves me just like i love him. he pisses me off sometimes where i think is it worth it anymore? its just gonna get worse. i pray and i think "no because thats gonna just leave you sad and depressed, you know you dont wanna leave so stop it" the way he stares at me with his big brown eyes, its so remarkable how handsome he is. he's my personal teddybear, so soft and cuddly and so strong 💕 when i look at him i see a future. a nice apartment in the city, me and him dancing to songs, smoking pot in our bedroom watching funny tv shows, or just talking about our goals when we reach 30, or even what we would name our kids, and the type of weddings we'd have. so many people commend me on the length of our relationship, asking how do i do it... how do we both do it. and honestly i never wouldve thought in my wildest dreams i would be with someone for almost 6 years of my life when i could be out doing god knows what. it all happened in an instant. when your happy with someone times flies. we sometimes sit and reflect on our relationship. "wow five years". he is honestly my guiding light in a world of darkness, he's helped me through depression and distraught thoughts more than anyone else. i am honestly head over heels in love with him. the thoughts of him being with another girl tend to enter my mind but he shows me that he would never be unfaithful. as ugly as i feel at times, he can always cheer me up saying "you so sexy baby", "your so beautiful". the next day after i came home from college, he seen me & said "wow i forgot how good you looked, like wow its been so long" being that it was may and i only seen him in march, january, december and november. he is a diamond in the rough, and the older he is, the more mature and he honestly makes me the proudest girlfriend ever. even though i may not show it at times, he really does make me proud. he is so kind, and puts others before himself, although he may seem like a smart ass at times. hes sensitive but strong and tough at the same time. im glad i got to know him and be with him on such and intimate level. god really blessed me and i hope he keeps on for years to come with christopher marty.
