im rewatching she-ra and naturally im gonna want to write about it a lot. starting by breaking down the catradora conflict origin story scene from s01e02 the sword part 2

people have said this before but the most important thing to keep in mind here is how different their understanding of whats going on is. theyre both approaching this with completely different views and so they misunderstand what the other means.

Adora: There's no time. We have to put a stop this.

Catra: What? Why?

Adora: Because this is a civilian town. Look around! These aren't insurgents. They're innocent people.

Catra: Yeah, sure. Innocent people who kidnapped a Horde officer. Now come on, let's get you back to the Fright Zone. Shadow Weaver is freaking out. [laughing] It'd be funny if she weren't such a terrible person.

so immediately theres two things i wanna say about this part, about how catra reacts to stuff. first off, something we learn about catra throughout the whole show and especially in the portal-alternative-reality, is that shes big on Pretending Nothing Is Wrong. whenever shes feeling upset or angry about something, she will start joking around and acting like shes just totally super chill guys, dw ("Ugh, whatever. It's not like I even care. I just wanna get out of this dump at some point before I dieee of boredom). Shes acting like that in this scene. Adora was missing for hours, shadow weaver was breathing down her neck and threatening her, she was already worried adora might have left at this point. she cant let adora know how worried she was tho, so shes all jokes and fast paced conversation. To Adora, tho, it just looks like catra doesnt care, like she doesnt understand the gravity of the situation.

and the other thing is that honestly? I dont think catra does care. about the town, i mean. i think catra was ready for war in a way adora never was. theyre both seeing combat for the first time here, and adora hates it. training for war is completely different than being in the battlefield, and adora couldnt handle it. face to face with it she couldnt tolerate seeing people suffering and dying, houses being burned down, a whole village destroyed. when the horde brainwashed adora into thinking they were only doing the necessary to save etheria, she completely and fully believed it, and when faced with the reality of the horde she immediately realized how wrong that was. Catra, tho, could not care less. she never believed in what the horde said, she knew full well what the horde did, so this isnt a surprise for her. and i do think shes naturally a bit sadistic, or at least growing up among the violence of the horde made her so. either way, shes seeing battle here for the first time and shes completely fine with it. doesnt even spare it all a second glance. why would she care about these people she never met if the most important thing in the world is right here in front of her? (i think even if adora hadnt left that night and went into the battlefield as a force captain, she wouldve ended up deserting. she cant stand seeing people suffer and she cant stand not saving them. shes too good, too selfless for that. catra isnt.) (also she is so ready to kill at all times. she loves violence. i once saw someone say how shadow weaver thought adora was the "cutthroat, ruthless warrior" when that was actually catra and they were totally right)

adora is also trying something futile here, she doesnt need to explain to catra that the horde is bad and hurts innocent ppl because catra has known that all her life

Adora: Catra, no. I can't go back. Not until the Horde leaves this town alone. You have to help me.

Catra: What are you saying?

Adora: I’m saying, this is wrong. They've been lying to us, manipulating us. Hordak, Shadow Weaver, all of them.

Catra: Duh! Did ya just figure that out? Manipulation is Shadow Weaver's whole thing. She's been messing with our heads since we were kids.

(the captions in the pics are slightly wrong, nvm that.) everything i said before. adora just realized all of this, while catra has always known, probably because the abuse adora suffered was more manipulation-and-brainwashing, while shadow weaver always made clear to catra that she didnt give a shit about her, so she suffered physical abuse with little attempt to convince her this was fine.

the "what are you saying?" is one of the things that show how different their perspective is. adora is talking about going against the horde and helping the town, while catra immediately gets more personal. what do you mean? are you saying that you might leave the horde? leave me?

Adora: How could you possibly be okay with that?

adora means, how could you be ok with the horde lying about its actions, and killing innocent people? how could you be ok with the horde raising us to do the same? and catra hears, how could you be ok with shadow weaver and hordak abusing us?

Catra: Because, it doesn't matter what they do. The two of us look out for each other. And soon we'll be calling the shots. Now come on, can we go home already?

catra replies: because, i love you. because you have my back and i have yours. because nothing really bad can happen as long as we have each other, remember? and soon enough, we'll be powerful enough that they cant hurt us anymore. Adora hears, because i dont care about these people dying, the only thing thats important is you and i. and anyways, soon its gonna be Us killing them, isnt that good? lets go back home to the evil murder place.

Adora: I'm not going home, Catra. I can't. Not after everything I've seen. Come with me. You don't have to go back there. We can fix this.

adora says: im starting to realize now how wrong i was about everything. we're not the good guys, and i cant stand for that. i cant stand around and watch people get hurt. i cant stand around and watch you get hurt. lets leave, together, and have a better life, please. lets do the right thing.

Catra: Are you kidding? You've known these people for, what, a couple of hours? And now you're just gonna throw everything away for them?

catra hears, shes willing to leave me. after everything i did for her, all that i took, all of these years of us being together, she would still leave me. she would break our promise. she would leave me behind.

and then she straight up electrocutes adora. ok

she says it was a reflex, but i dont know if i believe her. i dont think she likes hurting adora (not physically. not by this point, anyways), but i do think that shes the type to lash out when upset and immediately regret it, then feel guily about it. which just makes her more upset. :(

Catra: Oh, man. That was a lot stronger than I thought. Are you okay?

Adora: Why are you doing this?

Catra: Because you left me! And if I don't bring you back, Shadow Weaver’s gonna have my head. So, enough with your weird little identity crisis and let's go home already. Or do I need to zap you again?

thats the last time they talk. adora gets teleported away by glimmer, and when they see each other again, its clear that they both made their choice.

the moment adora showed catra she was willing to leave her, there was no coming back for them. because catra would never get over that. she'd spend all her life in that hellscape, putting up with abuse and bullying and probably so much more we dont get to see, because of the promise adora made her. and, in her eyes, adora was ready to leave her on the first opportunity that came up. that hurt. that broke her. and that released something really ugly inside of her.

I got an ask about the model boat that DIO's building as he and Pucci hang out and talk about the stand ‘Survivor’ in Part 6. The scene deserves its own post because it's the basis for one of my least-favorite wrong takes: that Dio is re-living a trauma by re-creating a "shipwreck" scene. Also no dw anon I don't think you implied this. This take's been repeated so often and without reflection that it's wound up being treated as something canon, check out this TV tropes entry to see how reflexively it gets parroted:

Dio's building a model ship in the middle of a wreck??? Fanon takes can take on a life of their own and, in Dio's case, so many people know his character through the caricature constructed around and outside of the canon instead of through how Araki actually wrote and drew him. So I'm going to break down the actual Part 6 scene to examine how we wound up so far from the truth of what's actually going on in it.

1. The first thing we need to get clear is whether Dio's model even resembles the ship he killed Jonathan on in Part 1, and the short answer is no, it doesn't. For reference here's the model:

and here's the ship from Part 1:

Both are hybrid sail/steam (implied on the model by the paddle wheels even though there's no smokestacks) but the ill-fated ocean liner that took Jonathan and Erina 1/2 way across the Atlantic is a lot bigger and grander. The OVA adaptation's helpful because it’s spot-on faithful to the manga:

It's gigantic, you can see three full decks and two large smokestacks, along with elaborate baroque-looking detailing all over the stern end. Dio's model ship looks entirely different. It's simple by comparison and, were it scaled up to full size, it'd still be a lot smaller (check out the model rowboats and their oars around it for size reference).

So it's not clear that the model Dio's building is even a callback to Part 1 or some sort of easter egg on Araki's part (after looking at the two ships side-by-side my gut tells me it’s not). Keep that in mind as we step through how much the scene's gotten mangled in fanon.

Like I said, the model-building panels form the basis for an oft-repeated bad take you see a lot online, where people say it's a "shipwreck" scene (I guess because there's rowboats around it?) and, therefore, a re-enactment of trauma. Ofc that's bogus. The ship's fine, and rowboats are how crew come ashore whenever a tall ship drops anchor. There's even a lighthouse and the ship is resting in a tranquil harbor. The anime version of the scene shows these details clearly:

Hopefully it's easy to see the scene for what it is: Dio engaged in the most mundane hobby you can think of, while having a leisurely conversation with his BFF. As Pucci explains it, they're talking like children ranking their favorite action heroes by how strong they are. It's a very chill little scene, remarkable for how unremarkable it would be if this wasn't DIO and Pucci.

It's worth including the official digital color version here too because, apparently, they forgot DIO was a vampire and gave the scene a cheery sunlit mood by making the sky outside the windows as blue as day:

It's a mistake ofc but it also underscores the relaxed feel to the scene: out of context, the day-lit color choice feels natural because the scene's got such a comfy vibe.

So how do we get from a chill guy chilling (canon) to a guy re-living a trauma (fanon)? Answer is, ofc, projection.

It's a fandom thing to need a villain's evilness to be justified - explained (excused?) in a way - through past trauma, say, or a series of unavoidable circumstances (or maybe some valid ideology they hold). A villain's villainy is only legitimized, validated, or complex enough *if* they've earned it by having a "good enough" reason to act bad. In Dio's case, where 'bad' is a wild understatement, some fans simply need him to be hurt, traumatized, or otherwise sufficiently suffering in ways that Araki just never intended. And this need is so strong it can override what's in front of their own eyes, even where the author and the text suggest the exact opposite.

In this way the Survivor scene acts as a Rorschach test where some people see the traces of trauma where there are none - in fact, it's the one scene where DIO seems most at ease, relaxed and unguarded (and ofc without his "shadow"). As such the scene and its misreading encompasses a lot of that's wrong about how fanon can sometimes view Dio and a lot of what's right about how Araki wrote him.

Thanks to the anime there's an additional coda to all this. The Survivor scene in the Stone Ocean anime is faithful to the manga, but there's a twist: DavidPro gives us a sort of 'easter egg in reverse.' Remember the grand multi-deck ship Jonathan and Erina left for their honeymoon on? Here's the anime version, from all the way back in Season 1:

It looks a lot like Dio's model.

So here we have something from the manga that's likely not originally a callback getting turned into part of a callback, but in reverse order since the callback gets shown four seasons prior.

Of course, none of that negates the fact that the Stone Ocean anime scene is remains one of safety and comfort. The model ship isn't wrecked and DIO and Pucci are at their most relaxed and conversational. The scene hasn't been reshaped into any indice of trauma. What you have then is a fun little callback for the observant, and with it a wicked re-contextualization of this panel:

Now it’s become Dio towering over a model of the ship he killed everyone on. And somehow this feels appropriate: Dio's got a gift for casually being a jackass when referring back to some of the worst things that he's done. Aside from the obvious comparing human lives to slices of bread, a good example is this panel where he refers to Zeppeli's horrific death in the most deliberately offhand way:

So, anime Dio leisurely building a model resembling the ship he accidently destroyed while killing and then desecrating the body of the only man to ever defeat him? It feels right in character: a subtle nod to one of the many calamities he's caused. Assuming the viewer's more Joestar-sympathetic than me, I feel like what Dio's doing here and, on a meta level, what DavidPro either intentionally or unintentionally is doing is having some fun at the viewer's expense.

Alright so onto my personality. I'm fairly chill I'd say, but also quite honest, I don't really sugar-coat. I'm definitely more on the introverted side, but not in the sense that I'm shy. I just honest to god don't care to be part of most conversations. I despise small talk and boring conversations with a passion. Tell me your conspiracy theories. Open the conversation with a brownie recipe. Make an incredibly wrong, alarmingly stupid false statement and joke argue with me about it. I don't care, I don't judge, just pretty please have a topic to talk about, don't just talk for the sake of speaking. The other way around, this means I will listen as long as people have something to share, which actually makes me a fairly good listener.

I'm a person who naturally runs really cold, so I am always bundled up to the ninth with hoodies, cardigans, jackets- and I also love physical contact. I really like to cuddle. And I really like to sleep. I'm definitely more of an indoor type of person.

So my ideal date is pretty much laying on the couch and just talking. My love language on the receiving end is physical touch. On the giving end it's gift giving. I knit, I sew, I know how to do embroidery, I'm perfectly content with me, myself, a knitting project and a cup of tea. I also don't really mind household chores that much? Like, in this economy a single income household is pretty much impossible, but I wouldn't be opposed to it is all I'm saying.

It's not like I don't ever go out, but I know I don't mix well with super energetic people, because quite frankly I don't have that much energy. I don't mix well with super shy people either, because I can't be bothered to approach someone like a scared animal. (tbh I'm just a hater)

A positive aspect of my personality is that I am very loyal and great at taking care of people. A negative aspect is that I am very territorial. My home and the people I'm close with are my safe space and I don't like anyone else in that area. It makes me very grumpy and jealous. I don't mind people I know about, and I'm chill with most people. I just dislike secrecy and others invading my space.

I have no illusions about being a good person. I'm just some guy. (in need of a nap. and I would like someone to nap with me, thanks.)

Stomach bug ask reminded me a lot of my childhood. I was a sick girlie(tm) and between stomach bugs and other things, I’ve thrown up so many times that it doesn’t even remotely phase me anymore.

Now I’m laughing imagining a very panicked Suit combined with my “nah nah it’s fine, I’m chill. I just need to get my hair up first… maybe some water would be nice. I’ll be good to go in 10ish min. Dw, this ain’t my first rodeo.” While camping out in the bathroom as I just wait for myself to feel better

See, to Suit Saeran, it's all or nothing. You are either alive or dead. The state in between that doesn't make sense to him. It's like, we know he has to be strong and if he's not strong, he's nothing. He has to be that way. He has to be strong and anything that isn't strong will die. It's no different than how he used to hear: "Oh, well, if one twin dies, I'll have another one as a backup."

Anything that deviates from the expectation of those who are in a position of power over him is something he fears. If Rika knew you caught something because of the seasonal stomach bug, what if he gets the order to get rid of you? Sure, that might not make sense to us, but that all-or-nothing mentality is something he has to cope with every day of his life. No wonder he'd be panicked!

It just puts him in a weird place because he doesn't want you to die or feel awful, but at the same time, he wants you to be punished just as Ray was punished. It's a double-edged sword. Imagine a situation like this where you know how to handle yourself, but now... well, there isn't an easy way to say it, he's aggressively caring for you, in a Suit Saeran way.

He keeps bringing you water. He wants to bundle you up so tight you "can't escape! I know you're pretending it's worse than it is to get out of this room!". He wants you to eat this soup he made, "No, it doesn't have elixir in it, you airhead!" Worst of all, probably, he wants to hold your hair back if it's long enough because... well, he knows what that feels like. In his own mean way, he's somehow gentle.

!!! no longer on crutches!! I have a walking boot and can walk again!! hooray!!

#shout out to my mother for snatching and appointment literally today #got my crutches and splint at midnight got them off at 4:30pm #just 16 1/2 hours baby!!#i was fully prepared for several days this is a significant improvement #also very glad I don’t have the crutches anymore because I found out that if there is a slight barrier between me and getting to the kitchen #i simply will not eat. i did not eat breakfast or lunch because I didn’t want to deal with the crutches. and now I have a headache #dw I have eaten since then and the headache is now fading but like oof #anyway #also being forced to pay attention meant the feelings from my revelation were forced to the side and are no longer overwhelming #i did think I was gonna implode in the doctors chair but then I used the bathroom and it was fine #fork theory coming through !!#now I gotta face that revelation but it’s okay I think I’m good now #also still have an hour at the library #gah that’s three places in one day and I took a test this morning #after getting two hours less sleep than normal #i really just set myself up for a wild ride #this is fine #really though the worst of it is over everything’s chill now #so how’s everyone else’s days going? /gen #tw injury #quil's unholy underworld

Eh, who knows- He’ll usually have headphones on and playing music while he takes a fun lil stroll, blissfully unaware of his surroundings.

i meant to send this earlier when you reblogged the jopper hate post but my internet cut out. so you don't really have to answer this

i absolutely agree with jopper being awful, i don't get why people ship Joyce, a woman who escaped her violent ex and has probably ptsd from it with the man who can't regulate his anger and snaps almost immediatly. the way he screamed at her in s3 was horrible and i don't get why this ship is so popular.

what also gets me are the people (esp b/lers) who hate Ted and think he would hatecrime Mike if he were to come out, but in the same breath think Hopper would be very understanding towards Will. first of all he is a conservative cop and second he couldn't even be empathatic towards El in s2, who was a girl he knew about how much she was abused her entire life. he never tried to sit down and listen and care, he provides food and shelter and thought this is enough and El is being ungrateful or reckless. why do you think he would be supportive when Will comes out? maybe he changed his ways after being in the gulag, i'm not saying people can't get better, but as for rn we don't have any proof Hopper would be better than Ted when it comes to being an accepting person.

how i see it, Hopper and Ted are kinda the same, they are both neglectful towards their kids. both see themselves as providers but fail at the interpersonal level. Ted is mostly passive and Hopper too violent. Both men are a product of toxic masculinity in the 80s.(tho i would prefer Ted over Hopper any time because at least he wouldn't yell at me 24/7.) the only good father figures are Charles Sinclair (people need to hype up the Sinclairs more) and Bob Newby.

Bob was perfect for Joyce, he was patient with the kids, esp Jonathan and very kind. he was understanding and Joyce deserves someone who gives her peace instead of ending with someone like Hopper who resembled her ex in terms of violent behavior.

i would ship jopper, if not for s3 where they made Hopper cartoonishly aggressive and played it of as funny banter with Joyce. he kinda learned his lesson in the end of s2 with El after she run away. if they would have continued with his arc of getting his anger under control instead of doing a 180, i could get behind. because again Joyce deserves peace and a man who isn't violent after she rescued herself and her kids from her abusive ex.

legit jopper is soo popular and god hopper in season 3 is just sooo bad. he’s really just awful! and yeah like joyce had an abusive relationship with lonnie. i legit love her with bob so much like they’re everything to me

bylers are super weird about that ngl. like how is it that the parent (ted) who is just chill is the one who’s throwing out mike for being gay which mike in canon isn’t! like the way everyone wants a hypothetical thing with this when it’s not even canon that mike is gay. he just isn’t! also idk why everyone wants hopper to be will’s dadesque parent when like at first hopper did not care that the kid was missing idjdjdjdb. legit everything about that like i do think hopper and el’s bond is something special to me but the way he so easily threatens el with the lab is actually scary cuz arguably that’s what he’s trying to prevent but then he so easily uses it as an excuse to get el in like. you didn’t mention this but like yeah! THAT LAST LINE IN THIS PARAGRAPH EATS!

god i so agree about this entire paragraph! we love bob and charles sinclair legit they need to hype up charles more! and yeah both ted and hopper are a product of their time! legit bob was so perfect joyce they’re just sooo cutie 🥰 i will never forget that bob learned about all of this and just jumped right into it. like he’s just so special

god so much of jopper just gets ruined because of how hopper was in season 3! yeah like he learned at the end of season 2 with el and then they kinda just reset that for some reason. agreed about that last point

I get that. I was kind of like "it won't be good, bit it WILL be babs" and that was almost enough for me. I tried. I just didn't succeed.

I am an hour away from finishing the Graceling audio book and I just? Cannot get myself to listen to it. I had to renew it just for AN HOUR. That's my biggest issue with audio books. But everyone's different. I understand you liking them for long drives.

I liked seeing Dinah have a mom lmao. That was literally my favorite part I don't even remember what else happened.

That's fine I haven't continued bombshells. We're in this together 💔 I'm glad you're enjoying the others though!! I forgot actually that I was going to look into buying my brother a zatanna comic for Christmas. So thank you for accidentally reminding me.

I went to them a lot when I was little because all of my big siblings were super into them but then I stopped for a while and only wanted to go this year for art I didn't buy. They ARE fun but also yeah I spent like a solid 4 hours too overwhelmed and just not wanting to be there.

And I DID draw her. I hate it, because I'm not good at what I do. But the cosplayer did lead to me drawing a Dinah and posting her on my silly little art account.

The delay is fine dw. We're equally bad at being timely it seems.

I will just add a quick note though: I was scrolling through Amazon and saw leverage and I ALMOST watched it because of you. (until I remembered that I am a disaster and cannot sit through a single episode of anything and it was a lost cause)

i would like to apologize because it has been basically 2 weeks since i received this ask. i apologize. i have been busy and tired 😔

oh yeah i def have a harder time remembering to read audiobooks when i’m just chilling at home. it’s like. yeah i could put my headphones on and listen while i do chore stuff but that requires me to motivate myself to do said chore stuff 😭 sometimes i’ll listen to audiobooks when i’m alone at work (sometimes it’s a little hard when dogs are barking) or when i go on a walk with my dog and that’s been helping me with reading outside of just long car rides.

i think i started the annual of injustice2 before i went on my unintentional comic break (had a friends wedding and just Life happening) but i need to actually commit to continuing my read. for a little bit before my break i had started on some of the old dc/marvel amalgam comic specials because i think the concept of mashing characters together, especially from different comic universes, is really fun.

oh!! so i was away at the beach for my friends wedding (wild that i am old enough that the friends my age are getting married.) but while we were there my family went to a flea market and i found some of the old guard tales through time comics for 2$ each and i bought three of them. i haven’t cracked any of them open or even taken them out of their plastic sleeves yet but i’m proud of myself for getting them bc they are used (though in pretty good condition) i’m not a fan of the traditional tog comic art but, at least for the one joenicky one, the art is a lot more my speed. and i got the andy and nile cover ones too because. women.

i think i would like to go to a comic con eventually. at some point. a smaller con though probably.

What your favorite Mr. Osomatsu-san brother says about you based off of my personal experience:

Osomatsu: you cope with your loneliness by making titty and pussy jokes. If you're not a lesbian you want to fix him like he's an injured bird and he will ruin your credit. A lot of you guys make these silly funny ass jokes and then literally draw him going through death and trauma and make him experience just earth shattering grief and loss...and then you draw him saying "i got coochie lice" immediately afterwards. insane. i love yall so much.

Karamatsu: you're insane. You desperately want someone to spoil you rotten and sweep you off your feet and it's bleeding into your platonic relationships. You're probably quiet as hell irl too and cool. Unless you're not and then you're unhinged as hell... Ngl a lot of you have very basic media analysis skills and sincerely believe Karamatsu is the only victim in the house and are usually the loudest and majority in the fandom bc of it. You're influential but very few of you use this power for good 😭

Choromatsu: you find him relatable and are typically obsessive and you respect his comedic timing. Love is blind and you're willing to look over his bad traits or break his arm in eight places so he quits it. You want an Otaku nerd boyfriend to listen to music with and watch anime with and bc Choromatsu can be normal sometimes and cute in romantic situations its running you ragged.

Ichimatsu: you also find him relatable and are loving him to love yourself. Most of yall have been chill goth kids lol... I haven't met anyone who liked Ichimatsu as an opposites attracts, all of you are spooky goth girls. or you're the biggest nastiest freak on planet earth and you want Ichimatsu to do some shit that would require you to sign a waiver. Two opposites of the spectrum. He's not gonna dom you like that tho... Not until your 20th wedding anniversary. Some of yall need to chill imo. Not the cool ones - you other bitches.

Jyushimatsu: rare this side of the fandom but you guys love genki boys, or Ono Daisuke, or you just find him funny and enjoy his positive point of view! I've seen a few of you and a lot of you are very level headed but clearly are into his weird shit. I can see Jyushimatsu falls in love, Jyushimatsu festival and especially the episodes where Jyushimatsu is mature and shows that he actually is quite intelligent and emotionally intelligent at that is probably what yall latch onto. I've noticed a few of you are really into the fact Jyushimatsu is introspective and philosophical. What I'm trying to say is yall are usually the geniuses of the fandom.

Todomatsu: you're of excellent taste, of fine character, your mind and your meat is huge. One of God's strongest soldiers and one of the rare and exquisite. Refined palette, you see that frankly unlikable sonvabitch and you get heart eyes because he's sooo cute! When other people say he's normal you closed mouth scream because you know tottys got 5 severe disorders and is jus special and neurotypical passing. You'd give him a script of antipsychotics and a kiss and a hug. A lot of us find him super relatable and just love his low vibe. im bias, i'll admit it but Todomatsu imo is the only one who would wouldnt be torture to be roommates with. you'll just have to deal with him stealing your skincare but you can literally crack him over your knee and break his back like youre bane and hes batman. its okay dw about it.

They always ramble about ideas, are easily distracted/zone out a lot and get very emotional when an idea for a story or art piece doesn't go according to plan? -He’s right on your wavelength!

-He’s got a crazy amount of creativity, too, so he’s right there with you and egging on your ideas!!

-He even adds on to them if you want! He’s got a lot of suggestions for everything

-He also asks for suggestions from you when he’s blocked for ideas on what to build/examine next

-At first he’s kind of offended when you keep getting distracted while he’s talking, but once he realizes it doesn’t mean you’re not interested, he’s cool!

-Has no problem repeating what he said, even if he has to do it twenty times in one conversation

-Kazuichi can completely empathize with getting emotional when something doesn’t turn out right

-He gets the same way when it’s his own creations, so he knows exactly how you feel and how to help

-“Hey, Y/N, don’t worry about it, okay?! We can always try again! Plus, I think this turned out pretty damn cool, anyway...”

-He’s always encouraging you and complimenting all of your works, even the ones you don’t think are up to par. And he genuinely means everything he says

-You can count on him to always be there to motivate you to try again or move onto the next project

Byakuya Togami

-He’s honestly really impressed with how creative you are

-You’ll probably never know genuinely how much, because the most he’ll say is a “That’s quite an idea, Y/N”

-He’s going to get frustrated at first if you zone out often, so bear with him as he gets over himself a bit

-Once he does get more used to it, he’ll just sigh and repeat what he said. It isn’t much better than before, but at least he’s not rolling his eyes with a snarky reply anymore

-He kind of... nitpicks your ideas? He doesn’t mean it in a harmful way, he just wants to add on in his own way. He’ll add on his own suggestions for a more practical and successful approach

-He’s actually a pretty good listener, though you’ll mostly get hums and grunts as responses as he doesn’t have much to add onto your thoughts

-If you’re a writer, he’s fully willing to proof read your stuff! He won’t say that, of course, but you can tell by how quickly he gives in when you ask him

-When you get emotional that something didn’t go right, he’ll walk past you and take a look at it himself

-“...This turned out well, Y/N. Our minds expectations are always higher than what we can accomplish; or, you’re your own worst critic, as they say.”

Shuichi Saihara

-He’s amazed with how many ideas you have?? It seems like you never run out, and he’s so interested in hearing every one

-He doesn’t really have much to add on (and he kinda feels like he’s imposing by suggesting stuff) but if you ask he’s more than happy to give his own thoughts!

-Doesn’t mind you zoning out at all! He actually starts picking up on the signs that you are and either 1. catches your attention again or 2. gives you a minute before going on

-When you start getting emotional over something that didn’t turn out quite right, he’s right there beside you to ride it out with you

-“I-I think it’s amazing, Y/N, really!” and he does! But he knows what it’s like to not meet your own expectations, so he tries his best to be there for you

-And when you eventually pick up the motivation to start a new piece/work on your project again, he’s right there supporting you

Nagito Komaeda

-He’s astounded by how many ideas you have, and he wants to know about every single one

-This man is one of the best listeners you’ll ever meet

-He’s dead silent while you talk unless you want him to add stuff in or ask questions, in which he’s got you, too!

-He loves watching you work, and will gladly sit by you for hours just chilling

-Doesn’t mind at all if you zone out, but he may take it way too personally in a self hatred way, so make sure to reassure him it’s not because of him

-He’s so, so supportive of everything you make!

-He really does not understand how you could think that something didn’t turn out well, because “everything you do is amazing, my love!”

-He’s got so many compliments for every project you work on. It’s almost too much, but later on in the relationship he knows when to pull back

-If you’re a painter, he’d love to paint with you!! He has no qualms about getting messy, and he loves spending time with you!

Hajime Hinata

-He loves listening to all of your thoughts and ideas!!

-Secretly kinda jealous of how big your imagination is, but he won’t tell you that

-He doesn’t have much to weigh in tbh, he just likes listening, but he’ll give suggestions if you want!

-Tbh he zones out a lot, too, so he totally understands you! He’ll just gently snap your attention back if you ask him to!

-He’s also right by your side when he sees you start to get emotional over a project

-He tries his best to comfort you, mostly by complimenting the piece in question and reassuring you it looks great (and it does!)

-He’ll stick to just comforting you if you don’t want any compliments, tho. He’s a great hugger!

-If you draw, sometimes you’ll catch him sketching in his own little book after watching you draw. He only lets you catch a glimpse of it before he shuts it, but it looked... suspiciously like you?

Kiyotaka Ishimaru

-This man admires you so, so much. He has so much respect for you

-He’s not really an art person, so if your projects are art based he is so enamored by it! If you’ll let him, he’d love to sit in and watch you while you work!

-Your creativity is so fascinating to him. He loves hearing all of your ideas, and loves discussing them with you!

-He’ll try to add in suggestions, but if you want him to just listen he’s fine with that, too

-At first he thinks you’re zoning out because you’re being rude/disrespectful (and he’s a little hurt on the inside at the thought), but once you clarify that that’s not the case at all he’s 100% okay again

-Offers to proof read your stuff if you’re a writer! He may not be that good at creative writing, but he’s damn good at proof reading and editing writings

-He’ll absolutely ask for tips on some of the stuff that he’s interested in if that’s what you also do! (“Y/N, please teach me how to draw the other eye!”)

-He starts picking up on early signs that you’re starting to get emotional over a project, and he’ll rush to your side early to try and help out

-Whether it be by complimenting the piece (which he thinks is just... amazing, really, he doesn’t get how you don’t see that??) or just rubbing your back as you lament over it, he’s right there

Sonia Nevermind

-She’s so excited!!! She loves listening to other people talk about what they’re passionate about!

-She could spend hours just sitting with you and listening to you talk about your new ideas!

-She’ll get so excited if you ask her to weigh in with her opinion, so excited that she may fill up the suggestion with curse words on accident

-She doesn’t mind you zoning out at all! She knows it’s not intentional and she has no problem just catching your attention again and asking where in her sentence you zoned out so she can continue

-Sonia is very observant about the people she cares about, so she can see that you’re starting to get emotional over a piece before you even notice it

-At an instant she’s bringing you water and snacks, suggesting to take a break with her and relax for a bit

-If that doesn’t work, she’ll wrap you up in her arms to comfort you and remind you that even if this didn’t turn out exactly how you wanted, it still turned out amazing in the end, and that is something to be proud of!

Mondo Oowada

-Damn, he’s impressed. How do you have so many ideas up in your head?? He’s astounded with every one tbh!

-Sometimes he asks you for ideas for what he should build next! (He’ll also let you paint his stuff if you want)

-If you paint or draw, please ask him to join you one day. It will be hilarious and endearing (imagine him drawing a hideous stick figure and labelling it as you)

-He likes sitting you in his lap as you talk about your ideas, and he’ll hum as he listens to you; he’s more of a listener

-Doesn’t mind at all if you zone out! He’ll just hum and repeat himself; no harm done! If you’re apologetic, he’ll scoff and reassure you that he does not “fuckin’ care, babe, it’s not a big deal to say something again”

-He can tell if you’re starting to get frustrated by a piece not going according to plan, and he tries to coax you into taking a break before you get too frustrated

-If you still get emotional over it, he’s beside you rubbing your back soothingly and reassuring you that you can try again another time

-Brings you away from the piece to get your mind off of it, whether that be by motorcycle ride, movie, etc., he’s pulling out all the stops
