i've been postponing my homestuck read for days now, focusing on other work and stuff. it was only yesterday that i stop doing my little break. here's my thoughts :

-post scratch world are fascinating. everyone is 15 and the parents are now the kids and vice versa. it seems like a mix between alternia and earth! Lusus exists but concentrated on jake's island, i've seen a lot of callbacks to earlier dialogues and certain troll only things like the quadrants being mentioned, and im pretty sure the rival baking empire was headed by the troll empress who found her planet destroyed.

-anyway, the parents?!!?!?! theyre now the kids? how does that work? dirk and roxy did mention their parents are dead so maybe the sburb alpha version of dave and rose just isnt in the picture but man i wanna see i wanna i wanna see. and now everything i know about the alpha kids makes me want to go back and look back on the beta kids interaction with their parents to go Hmmmmmmmmmmm

-that being said it would be extra screwy is the alpha guardians (grown up beta kids) are actually still alive theyre just absent cunts so the alpha kids resent them and believe the real ones are dead. Oh roxy, just wait until you see your child / mother.

-my thoughts on jane crocker : heartbreaking. the AU version of your favorite beta kid is a billionare 😭. to be fair all of them becomes rich kids in this alpha timeline lol. Okay jokes aside, im very concerned for her and use of crocker tech. Im with dirk and roxy on this. She's a pretty pleasant fellow though. Most normal person out of the crew. There is something very sad about them. Like, they dont get to have a semblance of a normal life or even participate in society for reasons related to the game before the game even arrived. Theyre prepped for this one grand adventure only and its more traumatizing than actually fun. if they won, the world still ends.

-roxy is so. she reminds me of my neighbors' kid who bragged about drinking CT (a local very strong alcoholic drink) but a girl genius. im just fascinated in general. a rogue of void? sleepwalking? owns many cats? she would have been a popular wizardposter on tumblr. i can tell her favorite banned wizard council spell is greater baja blast.

-but mostly im interested in the areas she sleepwalked in. im pretty sure i saw dead dreamself terezi or nepeta and karkat with a knight of blood godtier outfit but no eyes, indicating he's dead. and ofc gamzee and equius but he's still alive. wait he's wearing glasses so i have no idea. I thought this is one of those dream bubbles thing but im even more weirded out with dead godtier karkat. is the void is more of a place for abandoned possibilities? or did i just mistook things over here? rose was there but somehow thats to be expected. she's trying to awaken roxy right? what will roxy do with her access to the void? what will she stole from the depths of the abyss?

-and dirk. wonder what he finally saw at the skies of derse. he's the prince of heart right? the only heart player i know is nepeta and we never really see her powers in action. i cant wait to see whats in store for him. also, he's actually gay? AND A BRONY???? A BRONY??? i mean yea he fucking love puppets but we knew that since act 1. i have no idea how he became friends with everybody like he cares but he's also abrasive as hell to everyone, esp when he likes the guy a LOT. im so sorry for jake.

-jake is a lot more naive than john. which is saying something. and an accomplishment because he's like constantly hunted by literal monsters and death robots. everyday he's fighting demons barehanded but stay silly. i wonder how jade and jake could even get to know each other like, theyre not even in the same timeline.

-and UU. who the fuck are they? is it lord english minions trapping the kids? or what here? They look nice and cheerful but im very skeptical here. couldnt wait to see more of them

One on each hand from when I cut them open on a field trip (6 years old, one needed stitches). One in my eyebrow that's fairly noticeable from when my brother hit me with a lunchbox (needed stitches). One on my knee from where I had MRSA in high school.

What is your opinion on Dirk and Vriska's friendship what is your take on their dynamic?

in two words: mutual disdain

in more than two words: this post is great in contrasting vriska and dirk from each other, but it leaves out a crucial difference between the two that would definitely perturb dirk: vriska has a body count.

now, whether or not vriska WANTED that body count or the morality/culpability of her actions is a topic for another post (and has been hashed to death by people much smarter than me i'm sure). the fact remains that she's got a lot of blood on her hands and seriously maimed at least one person with the explicit goal of making him "stronger."

much like vriska, dirk also puts the people around him in danger to make them "stronger," but (like jigsaw, from the saw movies, which bro (beta dirk) canonically loves) the danger is actually survive-able (ok i havent seen saw but dave and jake both very much survived despite Everything). while the victims of dirk's machinations get hurt, i believe that (in the case of alpha dirk, at least) hurting people was never his intention. mind-controlling someone off a cliff, on the other hand . . . girl what did you really think was going to happen?? hello????????

the chances of dirk learning this about vriska are incredibly slim, but that's not all it would take to sour her appeal. from being manifestly against personal growth and unable to admit that anything is wrong (see above post) to repeatedly insulting his sort-of ex-boyfriend to preferring pirates over ninjas, there's a lot of things about vriska that could piss dirk off.

and vriska's thoughts on dirk? a lonely boy who builds robots which he then spars with? a "pseudo"-intellectual who likes pony cartoons for children (and horses/ponies in general)? who's obsessed with ancient history and has some kind of deal with (performative?) masculinity? this is equius 2 junior, and vriska did not like her neighbor.

sure, she owed equius her life, but the few times she talks about/to him she finds him weird, creepy, stuffy, and stuck-up. much like how she mapped tavros' qualities onto jake, i think she'd likewise map equius' onto dirk, regardless of the superficiality of their similarities. this would not set them up for a great friendship.

vriska calls dirk "dink" to his face when she finds out he's a brony.

do i think they could, possibly, be friends? not really. if they hung out at all, it would probably be on the account of mutual friends or in larger gatherings. i don't think they'd vibe with each other and that they'd struggle to find common ground, but would tough it out for the sake of their friends. would they be kismeses? again, probably not. 1) because they both have their own shit and 2) i think it's funny if dirk is categorically against quadrants because he views them as a form of colonization (if condy tried to make humans reproduce with buckets, it's not a stretch to assume she also made them adopt the quadrant system).

would they act like kismeses? maybe, enough to make karkat foam at the mouth because isn't vriska supposed to be shoveling coal with rose? but nah bro they're not giving each other spade-eyes they just straight up do not like each other and find each other insufferable and unpleasant to be around.

it is my headcanon that after a particularly eventful memorial day barbecue, john makes them get a restraining order against each other, and the novelty of being in an avoidance relationship brightens dirk's day. vriska is also relieved to have an excuse to not be in the same room as him. love and light <3

Here’s that post about stuff in Dirk’s room! I’m too tired to seriously analyse most of it but god I have so many thoughts. Let me know if I missed anything, feel free to add on.

Paint and Horns: This one was addressed a couple pages later, but worth mentioning anyway. He kept that? He doesn’t speak favourably of the experience, and horns are dusty so he can’t still be using it. Also, hehe, horn looks like bulge. Point is, what purpose does it serve? Why keep it? He says he has things for historic/artistic pertinence. This doesn’t seem very pertinent.

Homestuck books: Breaking the fourth wall. Nice. Vaguely concerned about the implications. Assuming this was just a little one-off joke, but it’ll be interesting if this is actually brought up.

The whiteboard: The ship looks like a paper plane. The plan is a LINE. It seems visual data is not his strong suit in the slightest. Wish we could read what is written, I’d be interested to see it; he’s incredibly long-winded and intelligent with his words, so it’s probably much better than than the diagram.

The framed horse picture: No.

The other posters: There is one valid poster on that wall and the rest I refuse to look at.

Katanas: It’s nice to see something so calm and familiar in amongst all this bullshit. Not much to say about it, but it’s just... it’s nice.

Derse/Prospit Flags and Entry Items: Where did he…. Get those………… Like. Genuinely where. I didn’t think anyone held onto them. Where did they come from? Did he remake them himself?? I do understand the purpose here at least; these are certainly historically pertinent.

Dave’s copies of sburb: Why only Dave’s? And where did he get those, I didn’t think Dave or Jade held onto them??? But again, very historically pertinent. 

Roxy’s gun: Give it back, you bastard, you’re not cool enough for that thing. Historically pertinent, but give it the fuck back.

The green book: I can’t see the book clearly, and I don’t remember details of Homestuck well--but is that the book Calliope eventually ended up with? The book Dave and Karkat drew dicks in? The book covered in Equius’ blood? That thing must be old. It must spell awful too, words are redacted in blood :/

Anime posters: Anyone recognise them? I want to find out if he has good taste or not. But in general, nice to see he’s still just a dumb weeb deep down.

Tab watering can: For taking care of the succulents I assume? And the plant in the corner. Nice to see he’s a responsible plant owner at least.

Terezi’s wings: Give them BACK.

The cat: Give it BACK.

Jade cup: Very ironic to put a plant in it when she was a gardener. Ha ha. Free her.

Outfits: Not sure how I feel about him having his Trickster outfit? Also, the presence of his God Tier suggests to me that what he’s wearing is not just his God Tier modified but is, in fact, a separate outfit he made himself (or he just duplicated but it’s so much funnier to imagine him making it by hand).

The brain: I may be wrong, but I only remember one brain copy being made, and that was 13-year-old Dirk’s. The brain used to make Hal. A brain that could, hypothetically, be used to make a second (probably much worse since he’ll be entirely reset and literally 13yo Dirk) Hal. I’m incredibly interested in the fact that he kept this. It’s probably because he wants to have his own brain around for regular Dirk reasons, but it does suggest that he hasn’t dropped Hal entirely. He also brings Hal up to Rose. Seems like he’s kinda hung up on the Hal thing. Or maybe I’m just hung up on the Hal thing. The point is: Hal.
