Long Distance

Zoro could fall asleep anywhere. On the floor, in the car, on a couch in the middle of a crowded party - anywhere, anytime.

So why, then, was he still awake at this late hour, tossing and turning? It was like an itch under his skin that he just couldn’t seem to rid himself of. He had tried adjusting the thermostat, turning over the pillows, removing the duvet and then putting it back on, five different sleeping positions, a white noise app. Nothing was helping. The bed felt too big, he had concluded, which was weird because there wasn’t anything special about the mattress in his London hotel room. Just your run-of-the-mill queen-sized hotel bed, perfectly suitable for someone of Zoro’s size. Yet somehow he still felt like it was too… wait a minute…

“Fuck!” Zoro cursed, flopping onto his back and letting his head bounce off the plush pillow. He let out a long, anguished sigh. “Shit…”

He reached over to flip on the bedside lamp and grab his laptop. A few clicks, a couple rings, and then…

“Hey you! Didn’t think I’d hear from you tonight. It’s gotta be… what, one in the morning where you are? Everything okay?”

Zoro felt something in his chest unknot just seeing the curly-browed bastard on his screen. He could have said something sweet, something like “I missed you”, but what came out was: “You’ve ruined me.”

Sanji frowned, the toothpick he was using to keep his oral fixation in check drooping.

“Pardon?” he asked, giving Zoro a chance to redeem himself.

“I can’t sleep,” Zoro tried again, “because the bed’s too big because you’re not in it with me.”

Sanji’s features immediately softened, his mouth pulled into a sad little half-smile. “I miss you too, baby.”

“Tch…” Zoro looked away, hoping the dim lighting of the room wouldn’t catch the blush he could feel creeping into his cheeks. How could he just say things like that? Zoro still wasn’t used to it. Might never get used to it. But he had to admit (to himself, if no one else) that it felt nice to hear.

“So,” Sanji prompted him, “what can I do to help?”

Zoro sighed heavily and shifted the laptop onto the bed so he could lay down on his side. “I dunno…”

“Hmm…” Sanji hummed thoughtfully as he got up off the couch. “Well, tell you what, I was about to make some dinner. How ‘bout I set my phone up on the counter so we can hang out until you get sleepy?”

“‘Kay,” Zoro agreed, adjusting his pillow.

“Alright, gimme a second.”

Once he had set up the phone at an angle where Zoro could watch him without it being in his way, Sanji got to work. Zoro asked him to talk about what he was making and he was happy for an excuse to ramble about the dish in detail. At first, Zoro prompted him with little questioning noises now and then, but it wasn’t long before his eyelids began to feel heavy.

They lapsed into comfortable silence filled by the sounds of sizzling onions, knives on cutting boards and Sanji humming some tune Zoro vaguely recognized from one of the jazz records Sanji would occasionally throw on while cooking. It felt cozy and familiar, a little piece of home even while he was an ocean away from his partner.

Before he knew it, Zoro was drifting off to sleep. On the edges of his consciousness, he just barely heard an affectionate chuckle and the words “g’night, marimo” before he finally slipped into a deep sleep.

When he woke to his alarm clock the next morning, he was surprised to see the video chat was still open on his laptop.

Sanji was curled up on his side in bed, fast asleep. Zoro ran a finger over the screen, tracing the curve of Sanji’s cheek. “G’night, curly,” he whispered before closing his laptop and getting up to start his day.

Just two more sleeps. Two more sleeps and he’d be home with him…

The moment he heard Straw Hat had arrived in the Land of Wano, Law knew he had to act fast. They didn’t spend weeks planning, preparing, carefully protecting their covers, and secretly gathering information and allies for it all to be destroyed by one unsupervised idiot.

He knew that if he didn’t grab Straw Hat by the neck the moment he stepped in, it was only a matter of minutes before he went and shouted he was going to kick Kaido’s ass and become the Pirate King from the roof of some building in Bakura Town. Foolishly, Law had thought that with Roronoa there, they wouldn’t straight up pick a fight with the Beast Pirates at the very least. Foolishly… he forgot that an unsupervised Roronoa was just as bad as an unsupervised Straw Hat.

Never mind the two of them being left unsupervised together.

As Law watched the people of the Okobore Town cry and celebrate at the sight of the crashed, stolen in broad daylight Treasure Ship, he sighed deeply. He really should have ignored Hawkins and just gone to drag these two idiots away.

But, what was done was done and now Law had to deal with the consequences—the Beast Pirates knowing they were there, Holdem about to run crying to Jack, and a bunch of Gifters stomping their feet and yelling about robbery just metres away.

And yet, the worst thing to happen to their plan wasn’t even there yet.

Law barely managed to finish the thought when a giant basin crashed to the ground and right on top of the aforementioned Gifters.

“Here we go! Fresh water!!”

And there it was. The greatest disaster to ever befall the Land of Wano and Law’s entire life.

Law wanted to chew him out but seeing how he grinned and told all the people of Okobore Town to blame him… Law couldn’t do anything but sigh deeply. Leave it to Straw Hat to be so selfless in the most selfish way humanly possible. 

How was Law supposed to yell at him now without making himself be the asshole?

“Oh! Torao!!” Straw Hat called when he finally noticed him, his face lighting up and splitting into a grin so wide that it felt like his mouth was going to tear—an expression that made Law’s heart skip a beat at the knowledge that he was the one to put it there simply by being next to him.

Law hated how the corners of his mouth twitched in return. He was trying to be mad here, goddamn it. Not fall in love all over again just because he didn’t see that smile for a few weeks….

“Straw Hat-ya,” Law said, keeping his voice carefully measured. “You do realise this is a rebellion, right?”

“I’m just repaying a favour!” Straw Hat defended himself. “It’s not like I punched Kaido in the face. Yet.”

Law groaned. “You’re impossible.”

When Straw Hat only laughed, Law couldn’t say he was surprised. But then warm arms wrapped around his waist and a whole human body pressed against him and he blinked.

“What are you doing?” Law asked, his eyes dropping to look at Straw Hat’s face which was tilted back further than should be possible, his rubbery neck twisted back into an unnatural angle where he was resting his chin against Law’s chest.

“I missed you,” Straw Hat said happily, the grin plastered on his face widening even more.

The sight was making Law’s heart do weird things, things Law understood but refused to acknowledge. But even so… it was impossible to fight anymore.

Before he could stop himself, one of his hands cupped Luffy’s face and he leaned down, pressing a kiss to Luffy’s lips. It was a simple kiss, one they’ve shared so many times before they had split up in Zou, and yet, it felt like the first time. It hadn’t even been that long since they had last seen each other. Maybe three, four weeks? How stupid.

If it was like this after so little time apart, what the hell were they going to do when the alliance fulfilled its purpose?

Law felt almost embarrassed being worried about something like that. He wasn’t a horny, pining teenager after all—never was one in the first place—so what the hell was his problem?

He should probably think about all that after they actually beat Kaido. Right now, Straw Hat was in his arms and hopefully not going anywhere unsupervised for a while. He had punched a bit too many holes into their carefully laid out plan already for Law to let him go anywhere without someone with an ounce of sense in their head. Not that that had ever stopped Luffy from ruining everything but there was this thing called damage control which Roronoa had spectacularly failed at just earlier.

Idiots, the both of them.

Law hated how that thought made him smile into the kiss, making Luffy giggle. Law huffed to himself before he finally pulled away.

“I trusted you’d come back,” he muttered quietly, his thumb tracing the scar underneath Luffy’s left eye gently.

Luffy snickered. “Of course! Got Sanji back and all!”

“Good job.” Law chuckled quietly, pressing one last peck to Luffy’s mouth.

When he tried to pull away, however, Luffy stopped him; his hand grabbed onto Law’s yukata, pulling him down and refusing to let go. And somehow… Law didn’t have the willpower to fight him.

His lips curling into a smirk, Law let Luffy lead the kiss this time, his clumsy movements making warmth spread in Law’s chest. God, he missed this idiot so much…

“Get a fucking room.”

Law clicked his tongue in annoyance at the same time as Luffy groaned as the two of them finally let go of each other. But even when Law took a step back, their hands still found each other and Law laced their fingers together, squeezing Luffy’s hand gently.

“Sorry, Zoro,” Luffy said, but it wasn’t very convincing with the happy smile that was still plastered on his face.

“Yeah, sorry Black Leg-ya’s not here,” Law added.

“Fuck off, Torao,” Zoro hissed, shooting Law a glare.

“It’s not my fault your precious soulmate ran off to get married, don’t take it out on me,” Law shrugged, a smirk pulling on his lips.

“Now, look here—” Zoro growled but before he could say any more, Luffy interrupted him.

“Zoro, you should see your face!” He laughed loudly as he pointed at his first mate.

At that, Zoro's expression twisted in annoyance even more before he snapped, "You shut up, Luffy! Also let me see that katana already."

“No,” Luffy replied immediately while sticking his tongue out to stress his point.

Law blinked. Did he hear that right? Straw Hat and… a katana?

Turning his gaze down to Luffy’s waist, Law did a double take at the sight of the purple hilt, gold, cross-shaped handguard, and dark and light purple striped scabbard. There really was a fucking katana tucked away into Straw Hat’s obi. And judging by the aura it was giving off… it wasn’t just any random, rusty katana he found lying around somewhere either.

“Are you seriously carrying around a Meito?” Law asked, the dread he felt at the very notion almost tangible in his voice.

“What kind of samurai would I be without one?” Straw Hat asked, sounding almost offended.

“I told you you’re not even using it, Luffy,” Zoro grumbled.

“Give me that thing before something happens,” Law said as he held out his hand expectantly.

At that, Straw Hat jumped away from Law and out of reach, his hands flying to hold the katana protectively. “No way! Why does everyone keep trying to take it?”

“I just want to look at it,” Zoro snapped.

Ignoring Roronoa’s frustration, Law closed his eyes momentarily, praying for patience before he looked back at Luffy. “Because you’re going to fucking trip and stab your eye out. Give it.” Law stressed his final words by gesturing with his hand once more.

Luffy gasped dramatically while his face morphed into the most upset, unhappy expression Law had ever seen. “I thought you trusted me!” he cried, pointing an accusing finger at Law who only met his glare head on, thoroughly unimpressed.

“Not when there’s a sharp object involved,” Law stated matter-of-factly.

Immediately, Zoro burst out laughing. He clutched at his stomach, doubling over in his fit as he watched the way Luffy’s mouth fell open, an almost comedic shock painted on his face, and despite himself, despite trying to be as stern as possible, Law felt laughter trying to force its way out of his own chest as well at the sight.

With a huff, Straw Hat crossed his arms over his chest, shooting another glare at Law, then the still laughing Zoro, and finally Law again. “You’re a jerk. You’re both jerks. I hate you!” he announced before turning around decisively—

—and gasping again when his eyes fell on the Treasure Ship that was now swarmed by the people of Okobore Town, all the food being carefully unloaded and divided between everyone. Immediately forgetting about either Law, Zoro, or the katana, Straw Hat ran forward, shouting at the townspeople, “Hey, the meat’s mine!! Don’t just take it all!!”

Law shook his head in disbelief. Unable to fight it anymore, a chuckle slipped past his lips as he watched Luffy jump around, stuffing his face and laughing with people he didn’t even know. Bringing smiles to everyone’s faces without even trying, just like he always did.  

“And here I got made fun of because Ero-cook ran off,” Zoro muttered pointedly, amusement clear in his voice.

“Shut the fuck up, Roronoa-ya,” Law groaned.

Zoro snorted, his voice light when he replied, “You’re hopeless, Torao.”

“Says the guy who did nothing but stress-train the entire way here.”

“Touche,” Zoro laughed.

They were silent for a moment, simply watching as Luffy talked to Tama about something with a serious, determined look in his eyes. It felt like he was a completely different person now than he was a mere minute ago… but he was still Luffy even so.

And Law loved both versions of him—the bubbly, stupid one and the deadly serious, charismatic one—equally.

Oh god, how embarrassing.

Law took a deep breath, then exhaled slowly. “Let’s never talk about this again.”

“Agreed.”

Think it would be extremely funny and in-character for Zoro to give up booze not because he’s had some sort of “come to jesus” moment about his drinking but because a. he’s gotten superhumanly strong and sturdy enough that it’s just stopped working and b. he decides it’s Impractical. That it can only hold him back going forward. And Sanji is initially so (quietly) proud of him when he says he’s getting sober and then is quickly SO annoyed that Zoro is being so casual about it. He’s like sorry. You’re quitting booze. Because you think it’s impractical? Because it’s not logical enough???

And Zoro is like yeah?? What’s confusing about this, cook??

Anyway he ends up meditating for five days straight through the withdrawal and Sanji, against his better judgement, almost tries to kill him at least twice because Zoro keeps stoically refusing to eat because he’s too nauseous. (*Sanji voice:* I was so caught up in the euphoria of Zoro getting sober that for a minute I forgot he turns literally everything into a personal ascetic challenge)

I think it works v well with (esp recently) established zosan too bc I can totally imagine Sanji getting pouty and bitchy about Zoro giving up something he loves because he “doesn’t want it to hold him back” and is convincing himself Zoro would probably do the same with him ofc, and as soon as he snaps at Zoro about it (and he does snap specifically; what else is he gonna do, actually communicate and calmly explain his insecurity? Nope!), Zoro just snorts and is like “Cook, that’s stupid. I like, love killing stuff for you.” And Sanji’s like. What. 😶 And Zoro goes. Um. What. 😳

“Please tell me this is not why you woke me up.”

“Marimo. Hey. Moss, wake up.”

“Hnnnrghh?”

Zoro wakes to find Sanji hovering over his bunk, a worried expression illuminated by moonlight.

“C’mon, need your help.”

“Help?”

“Yeah, in the galley. Hurry, before it moves.”

“Before it…?”

Whatever the cook is on about, he’d rather just get it over with than waste time arguing. The sooner it was done, the sooner he could go back to sleep. Groggily, he follows him out of the men’s bunk and over to the galley, still unsure of his task.

When they reach the galley door, Sanji peers in through the porthole window in the door and almost immediately recoils in panic. “It’s still there. Do you see it? Over the stovetop?”

Zoro steps up to the window for a look. At first he’s convinced the cook had finally lost his marbles because there was nothing to see. But on closer inspection, he notices the source of Sanji’s terror: a spider suspended by an invisible string of web, dangling above the stove.

Zoro sighs heavily and pinches the bridge of his nose. “Please tell me this is not why you woke me up.”

“Zoro, please!” Sanji pleads, and he sounds so small and scared that Zoro has no choice but to give in.

He dutifully enters the galley alone, looking about for something to scoop the spider with. He settles on a mug paired with a blank recipe card he found in a drawer. Once he has the little bug trapped, he heads for the exit.

“I’m coming out. Don’t look,” he warns before pushing the door open. Sanji’s back is pressed against the outer wall, eyes squeezed shut.

Zoro takes the spider all the way to the bow of the Sunny to release it. He knows Sanji would rather he throw it overboard, but what did this spider ever do to him?

Sanji keeps his eyes shut tight until he feels a warm embrace settle around his shoulders and a kiss being pressed into his hair. “All gone.”

Sanji relaxes, letting himself slump forward against Zoro’s chest.

“Thank you,” he says, sounding absolutely exhausted by the ordeal. Zoro hugs him a little tighter.

“You wanna sleep in my bunk tonight?” he suggests. Sanji nods weakly.

Zoro leads him by the hand back to the men’s bunk room. Once they’ve managed to puzzle piece themselves into the too-small bottom bunk, Zoro wraps his arms around Sanji and rubs his back with his palm in slow, gentle circles.

one thing i love about sz/sz is the clear distinction of themes and the way both of them view each other and just mixing it all. I can enjoy my fair share of possessive zoro when it comes to zs but it's more about thinking about how his devotion towards the rest of the crew (pre relationship) fuels his feelings towards sanji and the need to make sure he knows how important he is for him, how he would follow him anywhere sanji wants. Zoro would do anything as long as it made sanji happy imo (it can totally turn a little bit weird, we are talking about ZOSAN of all people. Zoro would definitely say some insane shit like cutting his chest open and giving sanji his own heart in case he is hungry or something like that)

And don't get me started with sanji's need to make sure zoro feels loved all the time, not just with food, but through quality time (no matter how little it is, his free time would definitely be reserved for zoro) he would think his actions are his way of saying "i understand how lonely you must have felt" after kuina and his years as a pirate hunter which later on turns into a "i want to give you a piece of what zeff and the rest of the baratie staff gave me". Sanji would be SO sweet with zoro once in a established relationship, and zoro would feel a kind of love he never knew existed, and that realization alone is enough for him to bow to never let anything bad happen to sanji, not because he thinks sanji is weak but simply because its what he deserves. Seeing sanji happy makes zoro happier

Obsession's Grip (Zosan X Reader) P1

Plot: After saving some of the straw hat crew from a prison, the crew help takes a young man away so he can have a fresh start in life. He's shy but seems to grow attached to Reader in an unhealthy way.

Warning: Snakes, Bad language, Violence and Making out.

Reader is Female (Sorry), Zoro X Sanji X Reader, Poly relationship, established relationship. Reader has the ability to control the snake tattoos on her arms that come alive when she commands, they can change size and are connected to her emotions.

You couldn't blame your three crew mates for getting caught by marines, it was a stupid plan to begin with and your surprised only Nami, Usopp and Brook got captured, the only thing your hating at the moment is the prison your currently in. A place designed to disorientate prisoners if they escape, it's a maze of cells, random rooms and dead ends but thanks to the help of your snake's sense you managed to navigate the halls to find your crew mates. Your snake slithers in front of you using its tongue to smell out for Nami's perfume as you run behind it taking on anyone who gets in its way so your snake can focus, kicking the legs out from under a marine you kick him into another sending the two tumbling into a cell which you quickly lock with the keys they dropped. A yell of fear calls out from down the hall getting you to run towards it, you may have lost sight of your snake but you can feel where it is so found it easy to run down the halls until the large snake is in sight. Its tongue flicks in and out of its mouth while glaring into a cell, a small low hiss coming from its closed mouth letting you know it not happy "Calm down will you" Nami's voice yells out as you walk towards the cell soon seeing your three crew mates tied up and a young man in a janitors uniform trying to unlock Brooks sea prism cuffs with a key "I-i'ts huge" The young man panics his eyes fixed on your snake while his hands fiddle with Brooks cuffs trying to get the key in while his hands shake. Patting your snake it clams down at your presence as you walk into the cell earning happy cheers from Nami and Usopp "Sorry it took so long" You smile bending down to pick up the key's on the cold stone floor before unlocking the cuff on your two friends.

The young man looks you over before looking back at your snake still fearful even though its no longer looking at him instead its now looking down the hallway for any trouble while smelling the air. Once you've uncuffed Nami and Usopp spring up giving you a tight hug which you happily return "We're so happy you came" The two cry into your shoulders making you sigh while rubbing their backs, still seeing the young man struggling to get the cuffs off due to his shaking hands you know you have to calm him down. "Don't worry, it won't hurt you" You calmly state making the young man jump a little at your words before giving you a nod starting to calm down. Unlocking the cuffs and letting them drop to the floor, Brook takes in a big breath before sitting straight up causing the young man to jump in shock "I'm alive... well half alive, yooohooo" he calls out making you giggle a little while helping your friends up "Thanks for the help" Usopp smiles patting the young man on the back who shots up to his feet "I-its no problem, I-i'm glad i could help" The young man gulps before looking at you again, your snake pokes its head through the cell door to nudge your back wanting to get moving "Right, we should get going" You agree with your snake pushing its head out of the cell as you walk out into the hallway, your three crew mates follow but Nami looks back at the young man who's fidgeting with his hands. "Well come on, we made a deal, you get the key's, and we take you away from here" the navigator sighs annoyed at the young man but you place a hand on her shoulder while pointing to your snake "Hop on and I'll sort this out" The navigator nods at you heading over to your snake to sit on its back while Brook and Usopp sit on its large head.

Stepping into the cell you can now get a better look at the young man, he's timid to say the least and can hardly meet your eye, he's beyond skinny and his skin is pale indicating he hasn't been eating right and probably doesn't see the sun all that often. His hair is greasy and pulled into a large bun that looks very tatty showing he doesn't take care of himself or that he can't, It breaks your heart a little since he looks more like a prisoner than a janitor. You know if Zoro was here he would tell you to just leave him but you feel sorry for him, and he did make a deal with Nami so you at least have to try. "Thank you for your help in saving my friend's, i know my snake is scary but it won't hurt you" You smile hoping to get the young man to calm down a bit, but he still doesn't meet your eye "I'm Y/n, what's your name?" You ask as the young man slowly starts to relax around you "I'm... Percy" He finally replies's starting to look you over, giving him a kind smile you hold out your hand for him to take "It's nice to meet you Percy, now come on, let get you out of here. Our Cook's the best in the world, he'll happily make you what ever you want to eat once we get out of here" He hesitates for a moment before slowly reaching out and taking your hand, walking him out of the cell you help him onto your snakes back before sitting behind him since you didn't want him to fall off in his weak state. Patting your snake it nods before slithering off through the halls, the walls and cells go past in a blur due to how fast it's going and despite the sharp turns the ride is smooth.

It isn't long until you see the sun light shining through the large metal gates that Zoro cut open long ago, the sound of fighting outside becomes louder and louder until your right on top of the fight "Hay Guys" Brook and Usopp yell from your snakes head while waving their hands to get the crew's attention, Luffy punches a marine into the water before turning to the giant snake heading their way "Their here" The captain yells getting the rest of the crew's attention while waving back to his friends with a laugh. Franky is quick to rush back to the sunny to start steering the ship and get their escape ready while Luffy, Robin, Chopper, Zoro and Sanji take on the last of the marines. "Keep heading to the ship" You call out to your snake not wanting it to stop and say hi, it nods slithering past the crew as they kick, slice, punch and slap the marines aside making an easy path for your Snake to slither though. Once on the ship your snake lets everyone off while looking out to sea, a marine ship is heading your way so it lets out a loud hiss giving the crew a warning. Nami's quickly run up to the wheel taking over from Franky before giving orders "Brook, Y/n protect the ship, Franky fire back at the marine ship, Usopp help the other get on board" She yells out steering the ship starting to turn it away from the prison's port, nodding to you snake it nods back blocking two cannon balls with its body and head managing to knock them into the water while Brook slices another two in half. Seeing Percy standing on the deck you quickly push him down to the floor not meaning to be rough but you know he'll get hurt just standing there like that "Stay down, i don't want you to get hurt" You state calmly before standing back up and looking around the deck.

The others aren't back yet making you worry but you soon find the reason why, Usopp is still kissing the grass on the Sunny's deck happy to be back "Usopp, stop kissing the ship" You yell at the long nosed man picking him up by the back of his shirt and pulling him over to the side of the ship, confused at first the sniper doesn't understand what you want until he see's the situation ahead of him. The crew still on solid ground are fighting a new wave of marines who have made it out of the prison making it hard from them to get back without someone getting hurt. "R-right, leave it to me" Letting the sniper go you turn to your snake soon hearing a loud bang, The sunny fires back at the marine ship managing to break its mast slowing its speed but with its cannons still intact Brook, you and your snake are struggling to stop the constant cannon fire from damaging the ship. You coat your hands and arms in Armament Haki hitting cannon balls that fly your way as Usopp fires his green star aiming it at a small gap between the crew fighting and the marines on land, large carnivorous plants break out of the concrete grabbing onto the marines with their vines and mouths. "Franky hurry up and take that ship out, You guys get on board now" Nami yells out since the ship is now in the correct passion to get out of the situation, with one last cannon fire from the Sunny the marine ship breaks in two, unfortunately before it starts to sink the ship fires everything they have to stop the Sunny. Several cannon balls fly at the ship two being cut down by Brook, while two others hit your snake as it tries to protect the ship from damage, unfortunately one got past the two heading right for Percy.

Running quickly you tackle the young man out-of-the-way leaving the cannon ball to hit the stairs, rolling on the floor you soon come to a stop as the others finally make it onto the Sunny, Nami yells out a quick warning before pressing the butter for a coup de burst. Everyone hangs on tight to something as the Sunny launches into the air getting further and further away from the prison, grabbing onto the mast bench you hold onto Percy who's laying under you, the young man wraps his arms around you trying to hold on until the ship finally crashes back into the water. Sighing in relief you lift yourself off the young man who watches your very move with wide eyes, standing you push some hair out of your face before holding out your hand to him "You ok?" You ask giving him a concerned look but that soon turns into shock as he shoots up to sit on his knees and hug your waist burring his face into your stomach "Thank you, thank you so much" Percy cry's into your stomach, before you can comfort him angry storming footsteps get your attention "Bastard, get off her" Sanji yells his eyes burning into the young man who's holding you while raising his leg "No, no, it's ok" You hold your hands out managing to stop Sanji from kicking Percy across the ship, the cook looks at you in confusion as the others walk over to see what the fuss is about "Urm? New friend Y/n?" Luffy asks searching his head but you sigh and try to pull the young man off you, despite how weak he looks Percy has quite the grip and hardly budges as you try to unlock his hands that are wrapped tightly around you "N-No not quite... please let go, your safe now" You laugh nervously while looking down at Percy who's refusing to budge "Oi, the lady said get off, now" Sanji growls slamming his foot onto the ground right next to the young man while grabbing the back of his shirt as a warning.

The sound of thin metal dragging along the floor get you to look over seeing Usopptrying to stop a very angry Zoro from walking over "he helped us out, he got us the keys to our cell and out cuffs, we said we'd take him with us... he's just scared there no need to kill him" Usopp tries to explain while slightly panicking placing his hands on the swordsman's chest but the sniper just slides backwards as Zoro continues to walk over his sword scraping along the floor next to him. Hearing all the ruckus Percy looks up from your stomach his eyes meeting yours before he turns to look at the blonde man growling behind him still gripping his shirt and then over to the pissed off swordsman, the young man's eyes widen at the murderous look in the green haired mans's eyes. "He's a marine... Let go, or I'll cut your arms off" The swordsman growls stopping in front of you and Percy while shoving Usopp side and pointing the tip of his sword in the young man's face. Percy gulps and finally lets you go letting you step back and away from him "Are you ok my love? Did he hurt you?" The cook asks running over to you and cupping your face in his hands starting to look you over for any cuts or bruises but you take his hands and shake your head "No, i'm fine. He's just scared" You try to explain while pulling his hands off your face. Luffy walks right up the Percy and looks him over with a hum before smiling "Thanks for helping my friends, I'm Monkey D Luffy" The captain holds out his hand for the young man to shake.

Still in shock Percy keeps his wide eyes on Zoro but takes Luffy's hand to shake it "I-I'm Percy" Sanji glares not liking the man being on the ship while wrapping his arms around you waist, but he can't go against the captain who seems to like the young man "Are you sure your ok my love?" The cook asks pulling you into his chest, wrapping your arms around his neck you place a light kiss in his lips "I'm fine really" you reassure hoping to ease his worries, it was quite uncomfortable having the young man cling onto you like that but then again you did save his life, and he's away from that prison, he's just grateful. "He's not a marine, please put it away" Usopp sighs while rubbing his head finally managing to get a word in after Luffy has finished talking Percy's ear off but the swordsman doesn't budge "Then what is he then?" Chopper asks as he tries to hide behind Robin's leg who laughs at him since he's doing it backwards "He's a deserter" Nami calls out coming down the stairs and over to the group hoping to explain and calm everyone down "Listen we'll explain all this later, for now we need to fix the ship and i need a drink" The navigator sighs while rubbing her head, Luffy jumps up with a big smile while taking Percy's arm dragging him up with the captain "Sanji, can you cook up something, mainly meat" The captain laughs while dragging the young man to the kitchen some of the other starting to follow in agreement. Sanji sigh and places a kiss on your lips before reluctantly letting you go, Zoro groans putting his sword away and making his way over to the two of you "I don't like this" He states only for a hand to be placed on his shoulder "You'll understand later... I'll give you five minutes Sanji" Nami smiles with a wink walking past the three of you and to the kitchen.

Sanji gives her a big smile while swaying a little hearts appearing in his eyes, happy that he didn't have to rush away from you "Thank you, Nami-Swan" Sanji happily calls out after her watching the navigator walk into the kitchen and close the door. Zoro takes a step closer wrapping an arm around your waist, his eye looking you over as you run your hand up his chest and to his cheek, leaning in you place a soft kiss on his lips which he quickly deepens by shoving his tongue into your mouth. The slight giggle you let out gets Sanji's attention, turning the cook smile at the two of you while stepping closer wrapping his arms around the two of you and placing a kiss on your neck and then one on Zoro's. Pulling away you smile up at the swordsman "Must have been one hell of a fight" You tease while biting your lip making him groan and tilt his head from side to side "Its was ok" he states earning a laugh off Sanji who shakes his head and leans up to place a kiss on the swordsman's cheek "Please, you were having so much out there" The cook comments, Zoro smirks while crashing his lips onto the blondes, the two hum in unison as the swordsman shoves his tongue into Sanji's already slightly open mouth, their kiss goes on for a while and its then you notice your Snake hovering over Franky. The Cyborg sighs looking over the smashed up stairs while patting your snakes head who had lowered it as an apology "Hay you did a good job protecting the ship pal, don't put yourself down" The cyborg give your snake a big smile before starting to work. "Baby, your not paying attention" Zoro nips at your neck making you jump slightly at his sudden action.

Sanji rubs your side with a small laugh pulling you in closer, so he can lightly place his lips on yours, "Sorry" You mumble against his lips before lightly biting his lower lip, the cooks smile gets even bigger while opening his mouth for you, letting your tongue in it moves around with his. A light hum leaves your lips feeling content in this moment but soon you have to pull away from the kiss panting for air, your snake lets out a hiss behind you patiently waiting until you were done before nudging your arm wanting to go back. Turning you hold your arms out letting your Snake pressing its head into your chest as you rub the sides of its face "You did such a good job" You praise lifting its head up so you can kiss its snout, the swordsman smirks while rubbing his hand over some slightly damaged scales on your snakes neck "You really took a hit there bud but its nothing you can't handle, right?" Zoro asks earning a nod and a proud hiss, your snakes can heal very quickly so it'll most likely take a day for it to fully heal. Your snake nudging your arm again asking to go back so you pat its head while nodding your head giving it permission to go back, the large snake shrinking as it wraps around your arm starting to turn back into a normal looking tattoo. "Come on love, lets get you some tea" Sanji smiles placing a kiss on your temple while taking your hand starting to lead you over to the stairs, the swordsman kisses the side of your head and places his arm around your waist following close "I need Sake" Zoro mumbles making Sanji sigh and shake his head "One cup, we need you sober in case the new guy causes a problem" Despite the long annoyed groan the swordsman lets out he didn't argue back, he knows for once the cook is right, but he won't admit it.

I haven't watched that much of One Piece yet, so feel free to disagree with me on this analysis, but there's one thing about people's general interpretation of Sanji as a character that drives me a little nuts. And I'm saying this because even though I'm not very far along, I got spoiled for his backstory (because I refused to stop reading fanfiction even though when I first started I was like, on episode 3).

So before you continue, there are spoilers for Sanji's past.

I think people tend to ignore that the differences between Sanji's demeanor towards men vs towards women likely partially stem from severe trauma. I don't believe his actions are entirely intrinsic, its not like he was born acting like this - nor is it an unchanging immutable fact of his character, despite what a lot of people seem to believe.

And for some context on what prompted this - I'm a sanzo/zosan shipper, so I tend to crawl through the depths of the internet looking for fun little videos and fanarts, and one consistent protest I see with this ship is "Sanji DESPISES men and WORSHIPS women, there's literally no way he could EVER be attracted to men or want to date a man he HATES them."

Which bothers me outside of any arguments about Sanji's sexuality or even about any ships - which I will get to in a second - because that interpretation of Sanji assumes his actions are just there for no reason. Sanji hates men, therefore he hates all men with no exceptions, and he will always hate men. Sanji loves all women, therefore he will always worship every single woman he meets. I dunno, I think it's just a very surface level understanding of who he is, and relies on setting a rule for no reason and just sticking to it, as if it's just a mere quirk of his character with no backing to it.

Sanji's first interaction with any people, was in the form of his biological family, as is the case with most of us. Specifically, his father and brothers, who abused him and didn't even treat him like a person, and his mother and sister, who were the only people that treated him with kindness and saw his humanity. Tbh, he reminds me of the way women who have experienced trauma from men act - a general dislike/disdain and distrust for them (for good reason). And I don't doubt Sanji's overall elevation of women was only hammered home by the fact that his first ever father figure - arguably the first man who's treated him with kindness - teaching him the lesson to always respect women. His very illogical need to never fight women probably partially comes from the events in his life, and because it's not just a two dimensional arbitrary rule established for his character - there can be exceptions and growth.

We already know this, because despite Sanji's general disdain of men as a whole, he is capable of caring/loving men that he personally knows. He loves Zeff, and he loves his nakama - some of whom are MEN. Like, it's right there??? In the same way a woman who has experienced violence at the hands of a man probably still has family and friends or even a significant other that they love and care about that are men.

Like if you're using his demeanor towards the different genders as an "aha got you" argument for why Sanji couldn't possibly be queer, its not as strong of an argument as you think it is.

And if we're operating under the assumption that Sanji partially acts like this because of trauma, it brings up quite a few interesting arguments about his sexuality and potential romantic partners.

Which segways into sanzo/zosan, since admittedly I got into this entire debacle because I was looking into fanart (non-shippers feel free to click away now if you wish, I get that not everyone likes the ship, which is valid).

I don't think Sanji's actions means he couldn't be bisexual. Cause I'm bisexual, and you know what would make me very very keen to ignore all my attraction to one specific gender? If I had multiple instances of that gender hurt me severely. In fact I'm not so certain I don't experience that, because while I haven't had anything super bad happen to me, I hear about things in the news, about friends and family who have been harmed, interacted with men who have talked down to me, and I definitely went through a phase in my younger years where i just refused to consider men as a possibility for a romantic partner, because I was just so so angry. And I'm not saying Sanji doesn't like women in truth, because he absolutely does. He's both attracted to them and likes them. But that doesn't eliminate the possibility that he might also be attracted to men, or other non-binary genders. In fact the more he doth protest, and puts on a show when he sees a pretty woman, the more I'm sure he's in denial. Internalized homophobia can also be a bitch. Contrary to making me think Sanji is absolutely straight, the way he acts in the show actually puts me the opposite way.

I've heard Sanji also has an interesting relationship with gender and may be genderqueer but I don't know as many details about that yet, so I'll skip it for now. But regardless, I look at Sanji and go "I don't think this is a traditionally cishet character."

Of course, this is by far not the only interpretation you can have of Sanji. It could be that he's traumatized and also heterosexual. That's absolutely fine. But my overall point here is that I don't think what we see in canon negates the possibility that Sanji can be queer.

As to why I like Zosan in relation to this:

1. First, a relatively minor thing, I enjoy the sheer amount of bickering/fighting. People hold that up as a reason to not like the ship and I'm like, my dude that's one of the only reasons why I'm here. My love language is annoying the people you love and occasionally having homoerotic battles. duh.

2. Zoro is one of the aforementioned men that Sanji cares about, one of the exceptions to his "men are horrible" thing. Like they argue and fight a lot, sure, but you're not convincing me that they don't love each other. In whatever capacity - platonic or romantic - is up to your interpretation. Sanji loves all of his nakama, that's not really something I see as up for debate.

3. I honestly believe that until Sanji gets a less extreme viewpoint of the different genders - he won't be able to be in a healthy romantic relationship with a woman. For one thing, I know Sanji has self worth issues for days. For another thing, his hero worship for women as a whole - his refusal to fight women, even when they're actively trying to harm him - I don't see that translating well to a relationship. Moreover, I can see it being exhausting for the woman he ends up with, to always be treated like she's made of glass or agreed with, regardless of what she says.

Essentially, he wouldn't really treat that relationship as a partnership between equals, and I think when that happens, you run the risk of the individuals hurting each other, even on accident. Of course, we can also see this as a facet of his character with exceptions and possibility for personal growth. Maybe if he gets with a girl he'll grow and learn and still end up in a good relationship. You could also just interpret his demeanor as over the top flirting that he'll reign back in for an actual serious relationship. Sky's the limit when it comes to fandom interpretations.

But because of this, regardless, I just don't see any potential between the female characters I've met and Sanji. What I do see potential in, is Zoro. Here is actually a character Sanji not only trusts to watch his back, is on equal footing with, but is also unafraid to speak his mind and fight with. He doesn't walk on eggshells or worship the ground Zoro walks on, he has no qualms about defending himself if Zoro crosses a line. That is what a relationship can be built on.

4. Zoro has a contrasting way of interacting with women that I find super interesting. He comes off as the kind of character that doesn't actually care about the gender of the person he's fighting or interacting with - he cares about their ability. Which kinda explains his reactions when he hears Kuina's thoughts about being a girl - and I think Tashigi as well if I'm remembering correctly. There could be a clash of beliefs there that might be quite interesting. I know Zoro and Sanji do fight about how they talk to women, but I meant like something not just played off for laughs. Maybe there is something like that later in the show, who knows, I'm still early on.

5. Again the entire reason why I like enemies to lovers is the need for personal growth. I heard someone say that Zoro would be fine with being in love with a boy if it wasn't Sanji, and Sanji would be fine with being in love with Zoro if he wasn't a boy, and man do I think that's accurate. And here's the crux of the matter - in order for them to get together, they need to get over their hang-ups. Sanji needs to unpack the ten million tons of trauma he keeps repressed under his curly noggin, and Zoro needs to figure out why Sanji rubs him the wrong way. That shit is INTERESTING. People forget that the reason why this trope is so popular is BECAUSE it's a fixer upper - there's work to do. Nothing is perfect. It may even be a little toxic. That's the appeal.

I wondered if I should post this for the longest time but...

The whole plot of One Piece but they're all in an asylum (with zosan and a bit frobin bc i love them)

Listen, listen I have it all planned out!

They call the wing they're in "East Blue" because it's the most east part of the facility and it's painted in blue. They keep the patients in small groups at first so that they don't act out or feel threatened. They call this group "the straw hats" after they let one of the patients propose it (the patients all agreed on it).

Luffy is taken in because he can't discern the difference between reality and fiction and thinks there's a pirate treasure he needs to find. It started after his second adopted brother's death - his brain refuses to believe it, so it creates an alternative reality in which his death was heroic and grand.

Both Nami and Sanji are taken in for self-harm and suicidal tendencies (they both failed to commit suicide, main difference was Nami did it during a depressive episode, while Sanji had tried multiple times but stopped himself every time until he almost succeed but was found by his boss- Zeff).

Zoro is highly delusional, has violent tendencies and has paranoia - he thinks anyone who looks strong is challenging him to a fight.

Brook has cotard delusion (also known as corpse syndrome), where he thinks that his body is dead/dying or doesn't exist.

Usopp is a pathological liar with severe depression. He admitted himself with the encouragement of his girlfriend, who had tried helping him after his mother's death.

Franky is a volunteer, who the patients absolutely love. He helps with renovations as well, since his day job is in construction.

Robin and Chopper are doctors. Robin started working at the institution because she used to struggle with suicidal thoughts and self worth and wishes to help those like her. Chopper is a man with dwarfism and has a nice short beard, so some of the patients with a rich imagination think he's a raccoon dog or baby rairdeer.

Jinbe is the owner of the establishment. Everyone loves him and he does his best to provide his patients with what they need. His favorite food is fish and he often orders or takes it from home to eat in his lunch break, so the other employees call him a fish man or First Son of the Sea. he thinks it's funny.

In group sessions, they all share their experiences and progress. It starts off with just Luffy telling stories of him fighting bad guys and monsters in the sea. His stories slowly started including the rest of the east wing. First it was Koby who was an intern nurse and then it was Zoro - he's selectively mute but nodded in agreement on a couple of the stories that he told.

Then he started including Nami, to which she objected at first but slowly stopped, it was nice to feel included. Usopp joined in with his own overexaggerated stories. Then it was Sanji, Luffy called him the cook of his crew, which was oddly fitting but still ironic. Yes, he was a cook before coming in but he also had a severe eating disorder. He didn't tell anyone about it. Until one day he told Luffy, Zoro, Usopp, and Nami. Luffy made it into a grand heroic story about him surviving starvation on a big rock. Sanji liked it more than having an eating disorder so he accepted it - even added his own spark to it, saying it was Zeff who helped him. (He knew it wasn't true, but he wanted to pretend that he knew Zeff long enough for him to have become the healthy father figure he was deprived of as a child.)

While on the subject of Sanji - he refused to eat. Most times he wouldn't even sit at the table. In the beginning it was so bad that the nurses had to hold him down and force feed him. Slowly he started obeying. It was mainly because they called in either Zeff or Reiju (though he got scared that she would tell the rest of the family where he was, she didn't). The doctors figured he needed a support system but he didn't trust anyone in a white coat and they couldn't ask other patients. Luffy had a thing for freedom and anyone choosing whether or not they did anything... do he was no help. Although on a couple of occasions they would see Zoro taking Sanji's plate and sitting in the corner with him. He would take two bites and feed Sanji one. He refused at first but Zoro told him that "If you don't eat, I won't either." which was one of the few times anyone had heard him talk. Though they had heard him laugh once with Luffy and he responded a few times when Usopp kept asking him questions.

Eventually, Robin came back from her honeymoon with Franky and started bonding with the patients. She became a part of Luffy's "crew" as well. Not long after Franky was welcomed as well.

When Brook came in, he was so skinny that he looked like a skeleton, so when he told Luffy he was, he believed him immediately. Brook is the only one who is allowed to use the musical instruments since he's the only one who can play. Musical therapy turns out to be quite effective, if not for anything else, for calming the patients.

There were a few "incidents" in the courtyard - first with Arlong a few other guards that got moved to another wing, then with some of the other patients. Luffy seemed aggressive on visitation day as well, not recognizing his parent after he went through top surgery, he just called him Crocodile and made up a story about Nami's visitor - her girlfriend Vivi. He would talk about how if she looked pretty like a princess, she must be one and how she was fighting for her country and he would help her.

One of the bigger fights was when he fought Enel - a patient who thought he was a god and had tried starting a cult.

Every once in a while, he'd start a fight and Zoro (and sometimes Sanji) joined in to help their friend. It happened a couple more times until one of the upper-ranked doctors (Dr Kuma) decided to separate them for a while to see if their attitude changed. It was only a few months but it seemed like they got worse. Luffy and Zoro would get all silent and non-responsive for hours sometimes days. Sanji would lose all the progress he made with his eating disorder and would try to find sharp objects to self-harm again. Nami and Usopp's emotional state would worsen as well, having full-blown panic attacks, Usopp developed paranoia and an eating disorder (but he started handling it little before getting released back with the rest of the east wing).
