Y'know the more I think about it, the more I realize that instead of arguing with people who don't believe queer coding can exist or wanna act like all characters who don't have a confirmed sexuality are automatically straight, I can just straight up find any arbitrary justification tweeted by some dudebro on twitter for why this character in particular is gay.

A Beyond Evil fic rec list: General and Teen
[So, apparently, you can break Tumblr when you write too much or include too many links, or I don't know, are just too much. So, I'm splitting this rec list into two or three posts.]
So, I was meant to do this about a month ago but a lot of life happened. But now, I'm doing it. I'm just doing it, I can't be stopped and I won't because y'all deserve recognition and for your work to be shared. This first post only includes fic with a General or Teen rating.
FYI: This will be an ever-growing list and will be updated semi-regularly
Rating: General
on my tip toes by therandompasserby “You said that, but you keep avoiding my touch,” the words escape from Dongsik’s lips faster than he can think of.
Juwon squints at him and finishes up his last plate to put in the drying rack.
“What, are you ashamed of me?” Dongsik asks jokingly, hoping it will hide the nervousness vibrating his skin. His palm feels damp, but not from washing the dishes.
Or: in which Dongsik is befuddled trying to navigate his relationship with Juwon after they kissed.
picture perfect by therandompasserby “Do you want to have a child?”
“What—you mean a living, breathing, human kid?” Dongsik tosses the words lightly as a joke, his eyes crinkling with mirth as if expecting Juwon to bolt out at the idea. As if the idea of being responsible for one sticky little human – the ultimate form of attachment – will deter him.
“…You do realize neither of us has the right organ for it, right?”
Or: Juwon thinks Dongsik really is too old to run at the topic of children (not to say Juwon himself didn't freak out or anything).
With the twirl of a finger by Namless When he’s done, Juwon fishes a handkerchief from the back pocket of his jeans, wiping the sweat away from Dongsik’s shoulders. Then he gets down to the coolbox and grabs the bottles inside. Dongsik is still admiring their garden, the mountain not so far, all covered in green in this season.
“You like my mane though.” There’s a slight appreciative hiss to his voice when Juwon slides the beer bottle against his spine and then the side of his throat.
“Of course I do.” Juwon replies, index finger twirling the end of the ponytail absent-mindedly. “It still needs a trim. Your mane will be all the more glorious.” he teases.
Partners by Namless "Embarrassing? Do you hate your boyfriend giving you a piggyback ride that much?"
Dongsik could practically hear Juwon's eyeroll behind him and it made him chuckle once more.
The stubbornness of the sleepyhead by Namless "Juwon-ah."
Juwon squeezed his midriff in protestation, voice still laced with tendrils of slumber.
"It's my only weekend off. Don't go."
a second to breathe by whir Juwon gets into an accident. Dongsik loses his shit.
the matchmaking ahjummas and halmeonis of manyang by little_roo “Ohhh, look it’s our Inspector Han!”
Dong Sik’s ears perk up at this and he turns to see two ahjummas hurrying towards them. One is tall and thin, hair just becoming speckled with gray and the other is petite, Dong Sik remembers her from a few grades above him in school. He glances over at the stoic inspector just to see a small smile on his face and Dong Sik has to do a double take just to make sure his brain didn’t make it up.
“Are you here buying dinner for your sweetheart again?”
Joo Won chokes suddenly and Dong Sik lets out a surprised laugh, turning fully to look at Joo Won with raised eyebrows and a wide grin.
Or more affectionately known as the fic where joo won gets showered in love by every older woman in manyang even though he really just wants one specific ahjussi to like him.
Happy to have you near by bluetrees Joo Won and Dong Sik attend a wedding of a former colleague, for the first time as a couple. What happens next will warm your heart!
It's a Dog Life by bluetrees What says 'pretty much married' more than adopting a dog together? It's only logical, according to Lee Dong Sik. Han Joo Won begs to differ.
with paper rings by Katierosefun “Two years,” Soo Jin said brightly. “How nice.”
“Like us,” Gwang Young said with a bright smile of his own—then paused. “Well, technically…just without the married bit…”
Dong Sik felt another stir at his shoulder. He instinctively pried a hand free, patting Joo Won’s head just once—go back to sleep, no need to get back into conversation, but the younger man was already shaking himself awake.
“But it’s…” Joo Won blinked a few times, one hand rubbing his eyes. “But it’s basically the same.”
[or: the topic of marriage comes up. joo won apparently has some thoughts.]
one good movie kiss by Katierosefun Lighting her cigarette, Ji Hwa continues, “People tell when you don’t mean it. Kissing, I mean.”
Dong Sik thinks about that for a little while.
[or: five times lee dong sik kissed people (or got kissed) for the hell of it, and the one time he kissed someone because he genuinely meant it.]
anyways, don't be a stranger by katierosefun “Sorry for being a few minutes late,” Ji Hwa says cheerfully, walking up to a stool. “Had to pick this one up from the hotel.”
There are cheers and yells of surprise from all around, none of which include words that Dong Sik actually processes, but he does process that there is a very distinct someone standing across the room from him, and that very distinct someone has his hands in his coat pockets, and that very distinct someone is brushing the rainwater off his just barely curling hair, and that very distinct someone’s eyes are already curling a little bit at the edges, which strikes Dong Sik dumb because he realizes that this very distinct someone’s eyes actually have the finest of wrinkles and that’s when he realizes that it is
Han Joo Won.
Joo Won looks up and smiles, and Dong Sik is sure that this is when the world caves for good.
[or: twenty years ago, han joo won and lee dong sik saved each other. twenty years later, they save each other again in ways that neither actually expected (though they hoped for it. god, they hoped for it).]
Kissing by EttelwenAilinon Their breaths are turning into vapor as soon as they leave their mouths. It's really cold. His nose and cheeks sting a little. Dong Sik takes his hand and puts it into his pocket. And oh, that has become a thing too now. Hand holding. Soft, tender, wordless. And Han Joo Won likes it very much too, it makes him feel cared for. He looks over at the man walking beside him. He has longer hair now, even longer than when they first met. He likes it that way and secretly hopes he'll never cut it off again. He wants to run his fingers through it, to feel the silkiness. And he wants to kiss him and he hates the idea of it.
fit perfectly by kittychi (bojangler) People speak of lover’s gazes and lover’s kisses, but no one has told him of lover’s hand winding through his own.
their love is understated but here dongsik is, holding his hand in the middle of a street.
From The Place The World Forgot by Stitch_Me_Not Han Joo-Won falls into the galaxy that is Lee Dong-Sik. Lee Dong-Sik makes sure he doesn't get too lost.
Truth Is A Point Of View by capitalismwasamistake After everything that went down in Manyang and the aftermath, Han Juwon and Lee Dongsik are comfortable never being in the spotlight again and instead are doing the less flashy but important work of finding missing people in Gangwon-do.
The professionalism they display at work leads their Chief and colleagues to believe they aren't close and even dislike each other, demonstrating once again that reality is not what it seems at first glance.
Trying to work through their burdens and heal, they encounter a stray white Husky in need of a home.
Life has a way of working out after that.
Rating: Teen
but you could make me a drink (or a latte) by Katierosefun “That’s all, thank you.” A quick look to Joo Won’s nametag, then a little smile. “Han Joo Won.”
And, it turned out that this nut job said Joo Won’s name nicely. Voice light and teasing, partial drawl and partial laugh—which Joo Won didn’t get, because it wasn’t like his own name was funny by any means, but all the same, something in him twitched at the tone.
“Can I get a name?”
“Lee Dong Sik.”
[or: the coffee shop jwds au]
make it last by Katierosefun “Are you saying that you would miss me, Lee Dong Sik?” Joo Won asked quietly. He could have sworn he saw Dong Sik’s eyes flick down to his own mouth too.
“Hm.” Dong Sik’s gaze locked onto Joo Won’s. “Maybe. I have yet to figure that out.”
i carry my love for you like my teeth by 2ndstartotheright “Do you want me to say that I drove all this way because I wanted to see you, Han Joowon?”
The kettle clicks off loudly in the silence. Joowon lets out a shuddering breath.
“Just–,” Joowon starts, even as he feels his heart clench wetly inside his chest. “Don’t say things you don’t mean. I hate when people do that.”
 ———
Dongsik presses his hands against Joowon’s spine, and his ribs against Joowon’s own, pushing, and pushing until the dirt on Dongsik’s hands start to polish all of the sharp points of his bones.
we accept the love we think we deserve by ceramide (StrawberrySpring) Han Ju Won doesn't think he deserves to be kissed.
Tinted chapstick by Sukie_Kagamine "What's that?" He asked as he stepped closer to Juwon, who was in front of the hallway mirror, all ready for work.
"Oh, this?" The man turned to look at him, and gave him a small smile. He held out a tube of lipstick towards Dongsik. It looked brand new. "It's this tinted chapstick Jihoon gave me as a gift the other day. It's quite nice actually."
Blue Blood On Your Hands by bluetrees Han Joo Won gets stabbed and Dong Sik finds that he can't do this anymore.
Cold Like a Driven Nail by SummerTeaPrince Han Juwon decides, when his car breaks down in the reed beds, that he should walk to Manyang. As a city boy he underestimates the weather.
Cleaned up thread fic
Peloton Peril by SummerTeaPrince Juwon falls off his exercise bike, gets pneumonia and the fever leads to an awful lot of confusion.
A cleaned up threadfic from twitter.
to unhaunt a home by reqvicm “Joowon-ah...” he called once more, somewhere between concerned and slightly annoyed, then grabbed him by the arm to stop Joowon. “Don't be like this now. I'll handle things, I promise. I mean, we're basically like family now, right?”
Joowon turned back around, perplexed. “What?”
Hyuk nodded innocently, “Yeah. The three of us. So just let me-”
“You're out of your mind,” Joowon hissed, forcefully pulling himself out of the grip the older still had on his arm. “We'll never be family, so just cut the crap.”
OR
5 times Hyuk regards them as family and the 1 time Joowon finally has the heart to return the sentiment.
rome wasn't built in one day. by AconitumPrimula Dongsik rarely ever shows it, but he too is scared to lose.
Kind of five times and one-time trope but also not, just very angsty, I am sorry in advance. (Minor edits will happen in the next two days for links and such!)
infinite realms contain its past by readingnotes He raised his eyes to meet Dong Sik’s in the mirror and paused. There was a crease between his eyebrows, an indication of a hypothesis confirmed, and it brought Joo Won back to the night in the rain, the revelation and heartbreak in Dong Sik’s eyes as he found Lee Yoo Yeon’s murderer. This was a similar devastation wrapped in glass-like eyes, and it shattered Joo Won. He shuddered, and his fingers shook because, because, because: Lee Dong Sik stared at his bare back, eyes flickering across scars and history, taking in a crime scene and solving it within seconds.
In the mirror, their eyes met. Understanding passed through his gaze before a cold, closed look settled. “Yah, Han Joo Won.”
Joo Won whirled around, pressed his back against the sink. “Don’t.”
-
or: How the Manyang gang unraveled Han Joo Won’s shitty childhood slowly, then all at once.

something something jwds hanahaki au with dongsik catching it and immediately knowing what flower does the petals he's vomiting belongs to cz he is the son of two florists and that makes it worse cause then there's two kinds of petals from two different flowers in his hands and one means unrequited love and the other means rejection and what a laughable matter this is because he hasnt even thought about actually confessing to juwon yet the universe is already telling him its unrequited and rejected and then juwon gifts him a bouquet of flowers with an unfamiliar crimson flush on his cheeks and does juwon even know the flowers meant i cannot live without you and love secretly treasured? does juwon know how much dongsik is hoping against hope that the bouquet of flowers now sitting on his couch could actually mean something for them two? because now juwon would not know that the added petals in dongsik's own buoquet seated and growing inside his chest meant unfulfilled love and then juwon gives him another buoquet of flower that meant first love and dongsik is coughing and wheezing, trying so hard to make the petals stuck on his lungs to stop making it hard for him to breathe, to stop making him hope, and juwon is so worried, ever so kind juwon, then he's at the hospital and being briefed about the solutions for his predicament and jihwa's angry that he's not agreeing to the surgery while yuyeon smiles sadly at him, understanding why dongsik is against the surgery and juwon visits him with another buoquet of flowers that meant never changing love and this time, dongsik actually laughs because why didn't he realize that juwon have been basically confessing to him through the flowers he's given dongsik because of course juwon relied on the fact that lee dongsik is the son of two florists and since he's basically on the verge of dying, dongsik threw caution to the wind and confessed to juwon and juwon says "i'm sorry" and oh okay and juwon continues to say "if only i told you how i feel earlier, you wouldn't be so hurt like this. i'm sorry. i love you too. i'm sorry" with tears forming in his eyes and dongsik pulling juwon into a hug and he can feel the rough stems and velvety petals in his chest and throat recede and he can finally breathe again

jwds wip snippet
currently writing another beyond evil fic (help me) in which dongsik and joowon start living together and other things happen before and after. warning for trauma-induced sleeplessness/vaguely hallucinatory stuff and like. typical beyond evil nighttime somberness and creepiness.
The cicadas, he discovered, were so loud because the house’s front door was wide fucking open. Dongsik stood under the frame in just an old shirt and boxers. Closer, Joowon could smell wet earth, the faint dewy sweetness of summer night. A cool gust startled his exposed limbs, chilling the sleep-damp underside of his chin and making him shiver suddenly. It’d rained, then, sometime while he’d been asleep. Yellow porch light snuck in from the front entrance, Dongsik backlit beneath it like an intrusive thing.
Beyond him: yawning night. And the cicadas were still screaming.
“Dongsik-ssi,” Joowon said.
Dongsik swiveled. Sometimes he moved his body the way owls turned their heads. Silent and eerie, nothing you’d ever seen before in your life and nothing you would ever see again. A lifetime ago, maybe two or three, Joowon would have found him frightening.
“I’m looking for the ghosts,” he said. “You can see them better at night.”
“The ghosts.”
Dongsik nodded. “I knew the ones at the old house. The ones here I’m not so acquainted with—I thought I’d try. We’re the new owners of this place, after all. They’ll have to—” He swallowed. “They’ll have to live with us.”
There was sleep sweat on his brow. The hairs around his temple curled damply; Joowon thought of putting his fingers in them and stroking them back so that he could see Dongsik’s whole entire face, the soft gray of his hairline where scalp met skin. Joowon thought: he needs to cut it soon. Or tie it back, so that it won’t hide him from view.
“Hyung, we’re alone,” he said. “There are no ghosts here.”
Dongsik’s breath trembled like it was trapped in his throat. “No ghosts in this house?”
“Not this one.”
Joowon watched himself solidify in Dongsik’s gaze. It took so long—it always took so long. Dongsik always slipped so far. Sometimes he boomeranged into the thick dark nothingness without warning and Joowon lost sight of him until he came arcing back, the bright relieving glint of him expelling from shadow and smoke, and Joowon would reach out to meet him where he struck the earth.
Dongsik’s fingertips grazed his cheek first, then Dongsik’s palm. His skin creased despite the season—rough and nearly hurting.
“I’m real,” Joowon said. He would remember to buy a stronger hand lotion next time he was at a convenience store.
A blink, and then the last of the film was lifting away from Dongsik’s gaze. He cupped Joowon’s face in both hands. “You are,” he murmured, and regarded him silently for some long seconds before a grin came to surface on his face. His eyes gleamed like ice under sun. “How fortunate. Real things are more beautiful, don’t you agree?”
Their hands made no sound when Joowon twisted their fingers together. He kissed the tangled mess of them, felt the dry scrape of his own mouth and the skin of Dongsik’s knuckles.
“Hyung,” he said, “come back to bed.”

A CERTAIN STEP TOWARDS FALLING IN LOVE PLEASE
no lie i would trade my firstborn child for jwds pride and prejudice au
yesssss I LOVE THIS ONE, @stormyoceans and I talked some time ago about how Beyond Evil is essentially just a P&P AU anyway--handsome arrogant city boy with too much money/power comes to a small backwater town and promptly falls in hate/love with local eccentric with fine eyes. ANYWAY. This fic is my attempt to write something RELATIVELY short that COULD turn into a longer multi-chapter piece at some point.
Summary: Pride & Prejudice AU. Dongsik teaches Juwon to waltz.
Snippet:
Just over Hyeok’s left shoulder there’s a swirl of dark curls, escaping charmingly from a loose tie.
He tries to look away, quickly, but before he can the dancers shift and he can see a smile, a twinkling eye as Lee Dongsik leans in to whisper something to his twin sister, who he’s currently leading in the dance.
Juwon is hit with a stunning pulse of relief that it’s no one else–he’s not dancing with any of the eligible young women that wait all along the benches. Just with his sister.
Immediately, he suppresses the thought and the emotion that comes with it. Why should he care who Dongsik dances with?
Because it could have been you, his brain whispers into his consciousness. Because until it is you, you’ll be jealous of every single–
He turns abruptly, facing the window and loosening his cravat slightly. He’ll look rather like a trollop like this, all hot and bothered and showing too much skin.
Oh well. They could hardly think less of him.
Juwon’s entrance into local society had been…less than precipitous.
It is his nature to be reserved. It is his preference not to touch a lady’s proffered hand, much less bend to kiss it.
He has been told he is cold, an ice prince, unfeeling and uncaring. Too quick to judge, too unyielding once his opinion is formed. He does not see anything wrong with this. Underneath, his emotions roll like the tides, dragging him about against his will, bashing him against the rocks, forcing him to scramble for safety, for shelter, only to be repelled again and again.
It is good to be aloof. It is right to be unswayable. His father’s words.
In general, Juwon does not regret his actions. He acts only in accordance with his principles, and if others find fault with him then they would not have been a worthy acquaintance to begin with.
In one regard, however, he feels a certain pang of what could, he imagines, be considered remorse.
—--------------
It had been the first ball in the neighborhood. Hyeok, ever the peacemaker, had been suggesting dance partners for him in an increasingly frustrated attempt to make a favorable impression. Juwon denied each offering simply and succinctly–”No.”
Until Hyeok suggested Lee Yuyeon. For some reason he still doesn’t understand, Juwon had faltered. Barely, but his hesitation was enough that Hyeok was on him like a cat on a mouse.
“Aha, so our ice prince does have some hot blood in his veins! I knew it was only a matter of time before I found out your type. Come, let us walk over and introduce ourselves and then you will ask her to dance–”
Juwon had pulled his arm from Hyeok’s grip, a look of horror spreading on his face.
“I will do no such thing.”
“No? Too shy? No matter, I’ll go make the introduction for you, if that’s easier. It’s a small matter.”
“Absolutely not.” Hyeok had finally turned to look at him, eyes wide in response to the fear revulsion in Juwon’s voice.
“No? But she is, in fact, very pretty. Anyone can see that. Come, Juwon, you must dance with at least one lady. One single dance. What can it hurt? She is certainly the most agreeable creature in the room.”
Just for a second, unaccountably, an image of her brother had flashed before Juwon’s eyes.

Happy 2nd anniversary to Ju Won's return to Manyang
I tried hard to finish an art piece as a way to celebrate but alas, motivation said otherwise.
Sooooo, have a lil sneak peak of my JWDS cowboy au fic I'm working hard to complete (but work and now school is really taking up my time).
I hope you enjoy this lil gift nonetheless!
______________
"What?" he says belatedly.
"Oh, great! You do speak Korean! I thought I was going to have to use my very poor English skills and make a fool of myself so early in the day!" The man gives out a slight chuckle when he says that and Ju Won isn't sure if it's because of the rays of sunlight but he thought he saw the man's eyes carry a shine to them.
"What I meant though was if you saw an old man pass by here, perhaps?" The man asks one more time as he brings his hand to grab the edge of the odd hat he is wearing and tips it just a bit backward.
"No, I have not." Ju Won replies with composure now.
"Ah, I see... I was hoping you would say yes because that would have meant I don't have to go through this reed field to search for him." The man tilts his head a bit to the side to further drive his point and Ju Won's eyes follow to look at the reed field.
"Oh, but where are my manners. My name is Lee Dong Sik, I'm a cowboy, or paniolo aa they're called here." The man, Lee Dong Sik, says as he extends his right arm while the left arm is placed over his abdomen and gives a slight bow. Ju Won takes a look at the hand being offered and notices it is coated in traces of dirt and looks rough.
Ju Won clears his throat, "I don't like touching other people's hands. I'm Han Joo Won." Ju Won gives a slight bow back for a second before he stands straight up again. Dong Sik stretches his fingers before taking his hand back and straightens back as well. Dong Sik gives a slight chuckle, "Of course. Well, it was a pleasure to meet you, Han Joo Won. If you'll excuse me, then, I need to continue on with my search." Dong Sik says as he starts making his way towards the reed fields. Ju Won just stares at the other man's back.

bestie you've watched beyond evil???? OMFG EEEE!! TELL ME YOUR FAVORITE SCENE PLEASE I AM GOING INSANE
Hellooo!!!
I watched beyond evil in 2022 fsjfsds....so the details are a bit fuzzy in my head, but off the top, I remember a couple of scenes that made me feel some sorta way 😭
(in no particular order)
1. The rain scene - where jw sees ds holding out an umbrella for a lost person, whole himself getting soaked. That scene changed me. The absolute wonder and revelation and admiration and love in jw's eyes??? I think that's the moment he fell in love 😭
2. The rain confession scene towards the end, yk which one, jw on his knees, begging ds to forgive him 😭 fucking hell that one restructured my internal organs.
3. The courtroom scene, in which jwds double cross the asshole father in front of all the media. And jw gets arrested by ds, but it's all as per agreement between the partners (husbands)
4. The scene where the girl (I forgot her name, chicken shop owner) throws eggs at jw lmfaoooo it was a heartbreaking scene at that point, I didn't laugh, but in retrospect, it was a lil bit funny
5. The scene at the end when jw arrests ds, and breaks down while holding his hands, even when he's making the arrest 😭 that first "juwon-ah" GODDAMMIT I GO FERAL EVERYTIME 😭
6. The scene at the very end, closing scene, them meeting after 6 long years, and smiling at each other across a bridge, bathed in morning sunlight. Breathtaking. Exquisite. They are so in love I cried 😭
Okay now. For the fanfic!!!
It's this one!!

I hit 2K words of my monster!Juwon jwds fic and to celebrate the fact that I have been pushing through writers block, made it this far and that people are being so kind in waiting for it, I am revealing another snippet for your reading pleasure:
The most concerning part is that his ‘monsterization’ is progressing and there has been a new development. Every now and then, his eyes will match his reflection’s: a deep black that absorbs all the light entering it. In this state, he feels like he is going crazy and wants to thrash out at anything and everything. He is still in control, but is more prone to acting upon impulse. This is a danger that he can only recognise in hindsight and then clean the aftermath of it, such as tidying the kitchen he made a mess of or covering up a small hole he punched in the wall. Juwon is glad that nobody has seen those moments of weakness.
I am in a tad of a writing slump (a 2k essay will do that to you) but with the way everything is planned it should be written by the end of the month. thank you all for your patience!

16 "You were calling out, in your sleep. You said my name." with jwds cause i'm a sucker for comfort ♡
thank you for the ask, anon!! // from these prompts
Dong Sik’s grabbing onto a wrist even before he comes to. He doesn’t even know why, not at first, until light floods from under his eyelids—and when he opens his eyes, Joo Won’s staring down at him.
Dong Sik releases a breath. His whole chest hurts, like he’d been running for miles on end and had only just been forced to stop. His arms hurt too, and his legs, and his head. Maybe he really had been running—maybe he’d been running for the whole night, and he’d only just remembered to come back to bed.
Except that doesn’t make much sense. Dong Sik isn’t a sleepwalker, let alone a sleep runner—but his chest still rises and falls as though he’d been racing.
“Slow down,” Joo Won says quietly, a warm hand spanning on top of Dong Sik’s chest. As though he’s forcing the breath right back into Dong Sik’s lungs through only touch.
And yet, it still works. The weight settles straight through Dong Sik’s shirt, down through bone and muscle and somewhere, Dong Sik’s heart slows its drumming. “Breathe.”
Dong Sik inhales. He finds Joo Won in the dim light, his eyes shadowed by too few hours of sleep and too many hours of work. “I’m sorry,” he says. “I woke you.”
“Don’t,” Joo Won says. He curls towards Dong Sik, chin resting against his shoulder. He pats his hand once against Dong Sik’s chest, again. Dong Sik feels it in his bones. His entire body hurts too much to move, but he manages to tilt his head towards Joo Won’s, enough for their foreheads to touch. “Where were you this time?”
It’s an old game that they play, during these kinds of nights. Whenever the memories rushed up a little too close to the surface, when neither of them could sleep for some reason. Or when one of them was waking up at odd hours again. Dong Sik had thought they were fine, for at least a while—he can’t remember the last time he had a nightmare, and yet.
“The office,” he says quietly, tightening his grip around Joo Won’s shirt. “I just came in.”
Joo Won stills for a moment, and then he pats Dong Sik’s chest again. “Bad?”
“Bad,” Dong Sik says. He inhales again, drawing Joo Won close. “Very bad.”
Joo Won doesn’t ask for the details, and Dong Sik doesn’t feel like divulging. There are certain things that he’ll only mention in the morning, when the terrible things feel less likely to happen. For now, he just stares up at the ceiling and feels Joo Won’s hand against his chest and tries to keep breathing.
“It makes sense,” Joo Won says after a while. “You were calling out in your sleep. You said my name.”
Dong Sik’s throat closes. “Was I,” he says.
“Mm.” Joo Won rests his cheek on Dong Sik’s shoulder.
“Who knows,” Dong Sik says after a beat. “You could have figured it was just a dirty dream.”
“Hm.” Joo Won pinches Dong Sik through his shirt. “Don’t change the subject.”
“Ha. I thought I was doing a good job,” Dong Sik says. He rolls his head over so that he can look at Joo Won. His partner’s face is half-hidden in Dong Sik’s shirt, and the room is still a little too dark to make out much more than just the vague outlines of Joo Won’s face, but it’s enough.
Joo Won sighs into Dong Sik’s shirt. “Don’t fool yourself,” he murmurs, closing his eyes. “We’ve gone over this before. All of it.”
That’s also true.
Dong Sik forces himself to smile. “Fair enough,” he says.
Joo Won sighs again, letting the hand on Dong Sik’s chest slide over so that his entire arm’s curled over his waist. It’s about as close as they can get to each other in this position, with so much skin on skin contact that makes Dong Sik’s breath typically stutter, except tonight—tonight, it’s welcomed in a whole different way.
“Clingy bastard,” Dong Sik murmurs.
“That’s right,” Joo Won replies quietly, his voice a rumble against Dong Sik’s ear. “Unfortunately for you, Dong Sik-ssi—I’m not going anywhere.”
Dong Sik swallows the lump rising in his throat.
