Canon is canon. Fandom is fandom. People specifically make fandoms so they can play beyond the canon restrictments. Characters are just a bunch of descriptions lumped into one, why is it okay to change literally everything but one thing?

Straight characters were constnatly shipped in gay ships and no one cries about anything. Because we knew that it's all just a play. Canon still exists like a mountain, our snow fights will do literally nothing to it.

If people are so upset about gay characters being shipped in hetero ships, its their business, they can do all they want to avoid this content. Thankfully people are using tags, and block feature is a thing! But people shouldn't force others to like something different. It just won't work and it will only ruin the fun for others if they'll try to repress it. Not that the ones who want to control others care, obviously. (Seriously, the current wave of puritans and control freaks in fandoms is distressing)

I just wanted to come by and say bravo, I totally agree with you on your RPF shaming post. Everybody daydreams about the stuff inside their heads, so why is it so bad to just write it down? It's not real anyway, it's not like people are unaware that it's fiction, people aren't so crazy as to think they can somehow manifest it nto reality just by typing it up. It's a weird flex, and I don't understand it. And people being bullied for it is total bullshit.

I don't think people should gatekeep in fandom at all (okay there are rare exceptions) but there's always someone who needs to create some sort of hierarchy where if you aren't "fandoming" correctly, there's something wrong with you. And it sucks. It's like with the ship wars. Just let people enjoy what they enjoy and leave everyone else alone!

Yes, you pretty much get it. this community has being going through a lot since engstars release, the fame it's getting but the lack of information it's spreading are things that we're not very happy about,,

You see, enstars is a game that heavily relies on reading. so imagine how we feel when the new players are coming here and doing everything but that. I accept it, we've been very sour towards the newbies because of their lack of information (I'm vv sorry) though Tumblr is pretty chill overall? there are other places like TikTok that are hosting misinformation sprees and it's very painfully and raging to watch. TwT

If you read the original story, you'll notice that Akira (one of the main writers) makes a lot of references to classic literature and plays. quotes poetry and other similar things !! Akira is a well cultured person, and his writing is part of the spark that brings joy to all the enst stories.

So imagine when the eng translation gets released. a tl not even made by english natives neither proofread by anyone. a tl that doesn't get all those references I spoke about. a tl that had to be purposely censored to avoid conflict (though I agree. there's bigotry and other problematic topics in a lot of stories) because western audiences are not good at handling them.

Happyele (the company who manages the game) is extremely strict with copyright. that's why you won't find a single leak about the game. why you won't easily find translations publicly (tls are actually illegal. that's why the wiki got nuked approximately a year ago) and that's why fan tls are a miracle. fans do get their references. fans make their investigations and their proofread with the most amazing quality, they're literally the miracle of this community.

Also, you pretty much got it !! "entering our community so violently" yes !! most of us feel that way. please don't get us wrong, I've seen some new players complain that we're being "rude" because of our silly gatekeeping; however, even if we're not receiving them with open arms and the biggest smile, we haven't harassed neither attacked anyone (actually we've been trying to help with guides and things).

As you said, this community has always been very small, so all of us know each other and all of us are in the same page (?) obviously since the game is getting more popular, more people are entering this place and I guess that makes us feel unsafe, since not everyone agrees on the same things once communities start growing.

Not so sure when I salted on Adrien so much. I was a fan for pretty much all of Season 1. But idk, I guess with the fandom’s (and wrtiers’) misogyny influencing the writing, he just became a bit pushy and forceful. Marinette got issues too, but again the fandom’s misogyny just kinda goes overboard with it and excuse Adrien for everything

I have been learning more about sexism, racism and r*** culture and the ML fandom and Miraculous got a thousand times more creepier for me. The way some Adrien stans blame Adrien's harassment on Marinette, tell her to give Chat a chance, expect her to fix Adrien and get mad at her for thinking of chat as her friend and nothing more is so toxic and creepy.

I never once saw an Adrien salter scolding Adrien for friend zoning Marinette but Marinette salters always blame her for friend zoning chat and tell her to "give him a chance", which make zero sense because they are literally telling her to date someone who she doesn't have feelings for. Do they really want Marinette to take chat on a pity date, because then it would just make chat look desperate and pathetic.

They say that "Chat noir does so much for her and she should date him" which implies that boys should be rewarded for helping or caring for their female friends.

Girls are under no obligations to return boys' feelings or make them feel special for doing something or acting like a normal friend.

It still baffles me that there are full adults with working lives that send hate online to other users because they don’t like the same fictional character or they don’t like the same fictional couple. It’s almost like a mark of maturity rather than just logic if a person just does not engage someone with opposing opinions. Which, to me, is unusual because should it not already be the standard to simply ignore that which enrages/bothers you? (Actually if you’re enraged by fictional characters, you’ve got another issue altogether lol)

I’m in multiple fandoms some of which have children or teenagers. And there’s random strife like any other fandom. However, many of these anon haters are often kids. But in the ACOTAR fandom/universe (the Maas Multiverse, maybe?) most readers are older. And they engage in sending online hate. It’s just unimaginable how telling someone to fuck off or writing 20+ reasons why they’re wrong gives any sense of satisfaction. Is it not more satisfying to cultivate an atmosphere of peace by surrounding your online self with content you ACTUALLY enjoy seeing? This applies to any social media realm honestly. People just be crazy man smh

I'd be lying if I said I didn't understand it, because I do. Not the sending people hate thing, but the obsession with being right and having the last word. Totally get it. I do. Especially when you're in it up to the eyeballs and someone is saying things that are flagrantly untrue, it's really hard to just walk away, especially when things start to get personal. Especially when you have proof that the person is full of shit because screenshots of Discord conversations exist. And ya know. Canon exists too. 😌

But also - why are we here? Just speaking for myself, I'm not in this fandom to get into fights with people. I joined because I really enjoyed ToG, I was waiting for EoS, and I wanted more rowaelin. I wanted fan art, I wanted to read fanfic because the books weren't enough, and I wanted to find people who had the same feelings I did! I wanted people to scream happily with! That's why I joined, and that's why I'm still here. It wasn't like this pre-acosf, and I am just waiting for the next book to be announced because all of this seems oddly more related to being right than actually... liking the thing they supposedly like (although I do lowkey worry that the fandom culture has irrevocably changed.) So once people find out how wrong or right they were, hopefully there will be a huge shift and people will realize that ultimately, SJM is going to do what the fuck she wants to do, and fandom exists for us to do what we want to do.

This is an interesting point. It should be logic. It should be just completely normal to back away from things we don't like and move on with our lives, but at this point it is also, to me, a huge sign of how mature someone is.

In no way does it make sense to me to keep consuming media either 1) that I dislike, or 2) in a way that bothers me. That's partly why I dislike anti culture, but it's like that mindset has infiltrated the regular fandom, too.

That's why I said last week that people are slamming their thumbs with hammers and looking up with tears in their eyes trying to get sympathy. You searched those tags, logged out to find those blogs you hate who have you blocked, and went into the toxic communities, bestie. No one made you consume that. You did it. You saw it, maybe unintentionally the first time, but at this point it's been 15 months since acosf came out so I can only assume you're choosing to see it and stare at it, and now you want sympathy? lol, no.

So yeah, what does it mean that people keep repeatedly, intentionally, knowingly engaging with content they hate and then cry about it as a way to gain sympathy and clout? It's neither mature, nor logical.

(This is why I hate vaguing, too. Even if it's about an idea, and not the person who had the idea, maybe either engage with that person directly, or stfu. I make a comment about Elain being kind and then someone makes a post two seconds later about how people who think Elain is kind are idiots? Dumb fucker 🤣 it's so transparent.)

So one Adam Driver defender rather put the burden and the responsibility on a 76 year old woman and all other women to have to “get use to men having violent outbursts.”  Instead of you know holding men accountable to know how to control their anger and not lash out or act out in a way where a woman has to feel uncomfortable or in danger due to a tantrum or out of control fit of anger/rage that a man is having.

This is why abuse culture exists. As some are willing to coddle to a man for as long as they find him appealing or attractive in some way or form.  So disgusting that some have decided to mock and attack Lidia over this. Rather than hold Adam Driver accountable for his actions.  For a fandom who accuses others of misogyny all of the time, they sure do have misogynistic views about how a woman should stay silent or not have a problem with a man’s behavior that made her uncomfortable.

Some are willing to try to rationalize Adam Driver’s behavior by saying that he has PTSD. Yet aren’t willing to even consider what Lidia may have gone through in her life to be bothered by or triggered by Adam Driver’s behavior.  Don’t consider whether or not she is a domestic abuse survivor or if she witnessed similar behaviors from toxic or abusive men she interacted with at some point in her life.

They just choose to make fun of her. Yet will go to extra lengths to have empathy and sympathy for violent and toxic white men by labeling them with mental illness or some struggle in their life with caused to to act out.  Seeing abuse culture in the defense if Adam Driver, smh.

Like, can people PLEASE take five seconds to stop and reflect on the implications of framing objections to THINGS THAT DO HARM AND LEAVE SURVIVORS like incest, pedophilia, rape, racialized and homophobic and transphobic trauma....as being....Puritanical.

I don’t care if someone’s never before thought to look at that too closely, like please just stop and take a minute right now and just THINK about that. Examine the message it sends if say, a csa survivor is uncomfortable with the way people talk about and interact in glowing, voyeuristic ways with fic that closely mirrors their own personal traumas, only to derisively hear everyone around them, even friends, say that the only reason to object to even wholly exploitative handling of super sensitive material is just.....an obsession with Puritanism. 

Its the false binary that kills me most of all. The way we’re so often characterized as being the ones incapable of seeing the world in shades of gray, that we’re the ones insisting things are all or nothing......when its the very people overriding our every criticism of lazily or offensively handled content who REDUCE us to that fake binary in order to shift the goalposts of our every attempted conversation. They’re the ones who pair criticisms of even the most sensitive content with like.....anything that’s even SUPERFICIALLY on the same wavelength, and so saying you’re anti-pedophilia and incest gets you labeled as some button-up wannabe youth pastor from the 1950s as though there’s no possible distinction to be made between sexual content and sexual content that springs entirely from and revolves utterly around sexual PREDATION.

Like, obvsly you know my personal trigger territory is more the realms of incest/rape/pedophilia oh my, and all the trigger warnings and blacklisted tags in the world (and you should SEE the length of my blacklists on tumblr, on Ao3, EVERYWHERE) still don’t stop me from having to see when people hop on my posts about Dick and Jason being brothers and make some crack about how anyone who doesn’t see the ship potential between them is deluding themselves. And its like lololololol, yeah because what if instead of the lulz, you invested a few seconds in thinking about how SUPREMELY unfunny it might be to actual incest survivors to hear it suggested that they’re somehow being regressive for NOT reading sexual tension and chemistry into familial interactions, like the sheer reality of our trauma and our inability to find it a cutesy or laughing matter suggests there’s something WRONG with us, like everyone else is being progressive for reading the very stuff that traumatized us into the stuff we’re trying to NOT read such things into in pursuit of our literal recovery and growth.

And then that thing when people think they’re throwing us a bone with trigger warnings as though half the framing of them isn’t extremely infantilizing and more concerned with protecting an author from anyone saying they’re uncomfortable with the direction they took certain content because “well what were you doing reading it, DIDNT YOU KNOW BETTER, SMH” as though most of us don’t even have to read it to have a simple basic awareness of what direction an author is taking certain content and that being the entire source of our discomfort.

With it of course always in the end circling back to yelling at us ‘some of us care more about real people than ships’ when for instance, you’re critical of a ship on the basis that its incestuous or its most common depictions are rooted in racism or a thousand other things.....as though we’re not real people feeling just as targeted and harassed by the continued and repeated and never-ending insistence that the real problem, the real enemy to fandom in all this is our refusal to just say “nah, this is all fine, you guys just have a good time regardless of whether or not you’re knowingly or even just accidentally layering in and reinforcing stereotypes that actively contribute to and worsen the coping of real live human beings for whom this subject matter isn’t just some abstract play on a stage”......because see, we’ve been written off entirely as radicalized Puritans who just have no real grasp of the INTRICACIES of reality, and we’re oppressing those that do, including the “some survivors who write this to cope” as though they’re the only ones that matter and that its not gross and exploitative as hell for non-survivors to hold them up as a shield or smokescreen in front of other survivors who are saying “okay but what about everyone else writing it who that doesn’t apply to and no we’re not gatekeeping or asking who specifically that is just by acknowledging that yes these authors also exist in general.” 

Just....what gets to me is the smug condescension at the heart of saying there’s some kind of sophisticated intellect at work in tackling any kind of content, no matter how personal it is to someone else even while a lot of times being completely abstract and hypothetical to the person tackling it, and saying.....”you taking this personally is a you problem, even though this subject matter is and always will be far more personal for you than it is for me.” The entitlement in telling people who are saying “the immersive toxicity of a lot of fandom in these various regards is detrimental to our fandom experiences” that they’re the ones being toxic for pointing out that not everyone is having a good time as is, that they’re the ones who are entitled for saying they too should have a right to fandom experiences where their traumas are not paraded around as What’s Fashionable This Week while their lived experiences are completely ignored every time they try and point out a flaw in someone’s execution, no not just a flaw, a BARB that’s actively sticking out and pricking everyone in the vicinity who looks at that execution and intimately knows what its like to experience that as more than just an aesthetic.

The willful disregard and HARM involved in wrapping every objection to Fandom As Is in an easily dismissed package they label “Purity Culture” simply because they’ve arbitrarily decided that every objection stems from chasing an unattainable dream of a perfect future even when most of the time its us just trying to EXIST in an imperfect present. Not having a solution doesn’t mean that you can’t still aim for better than. Not having all the answers doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to ask the questions. 

And meanwhile, the lie at the heart of it all is they’re the ones that are obsessed with perfection, with purity.....with this idea that fandom is already perfect as is, that its only anyone pointing out otherwise that’s the ACTUAL snake in the garden who needs to be ignored lest they ruin it for everyone else.

Hi! It is so nice to finally find a pro-Will blog! I've been in this fandom for years and I am so sick of all the toxicity. He was such an inspiration to me as an educator and all the hate seems extremely unfounded to me. YES HE IS WHITE WE HAVE ESTABLISHED THAT. But he is so fair in dealing with everybody's needs fairly and encouraging all the children. It is so nice to see a man invested in the arts and so dedicated to his children. Hating on him just feels like a trend now. Cancel culture SMH

What do you think about this whole "anti culture" on tumblr? I understand disliking something and criticizing something, but anti culture is more than that-it's constantly hating on smh, it's trying to make people who like it feel bad, it's trying to claim some moral superiority (like "canon vs fanon", "my ship's purer/better than yours", "I ship problematic ship (PS) myself, but lecture others for shipping other PSs", etc.), it's sending hateful anons etc. It exists in almost every fandom.

I... have a lot of mixed feelings.  Obviously I have no issue with being argumentative (lol I answered a couple of anons in an argumentative manner today) but to me there’s debating and there’s actively seeking trouble and I’d prefer to stay out of that PERSONALLY because while I have a ton of opinions I consider some opinions more important to me than others.  Like, do I love every ship that comes across my dash?  Not at all.  There are many I loathe.  But it’s really not worth my time or energy to bitch about it.  I do. Oh, I do.  But most of the time that involves me messaging or texting my mutuals/friends privately.  I was more into being super loud about my fandom opinions a few years ago, but now I’d prefer to write a super fucking long essay that I’ve thought about for a bit vs. just dashing off a three-sentence post every few hours.  I also feel like I do a lot more of my talking in my tags, and that’s more private on Tumblr, you know?

I do think there are some incredibly problematic ships out there.  I ship some.  BACK IN MY DAY--and anyone who’s followed me for a long time knows this--I was like... the resident Incest Shipper.  I had about three or four sibling ships I just kinda circulated.  Obviously I abhor incest irl, but it was a problematic thing I shipped, and I still have some of those ships though incest isn’t popular on TV as it was a while back lmao and thus there is less for me to ship.  But the thing is that though I shipped these ships, I never romanticized them.  I recognized them as fucked up.  My canonical ending for most of them in my head was “they all die”.  I didn’t think it was okay.  I didn’t want anyone to run off together or *coughsaveWesteroscough*.  I called out my own problematic-ness and basically acknowledged that a lot of my interest in these ships was based on a) hot actors b) chemistry and c) my own interest in tragic ships and what is more tragic than people who can never and should never be together and will probably end up dead?

I do think there are limits.  Because the way we view fiction does reflect the way we view real life, and I think that if you are not shipping consenting adults with consenting adults, you are not in good territory.  Any ship that involves pedophilia, I don’t think you can defend with “it’s fiction, I know it’s wrong!” because there are plenty of kids on the internet who can fall prey to being groomed if they get involved in fandoms that are down and chill and groovy with pedophilia-related ships, and also that’s just... beyond.  Like, if the actors playing people you are shipping are an adult and a child, that is a real fucking child you’re sexualizing right there.  I don’t feel like I can explain the wrongness of this in comparison to other things, and it shouldn’t have to be explained.  It also, frankly, is a part of a very big issue online rn which involves children being groomed through subliminal messaging, not by anyone outright being like “want a candy bar little girl”.

There’s also an element of me that says... whatever.  Sure, you might get your feelings hurt because people are calling you out on shipping weird shit, but maybe you should.  If it’s perpetuating harmful ideas, if you’re writing fanfic that involves rape or a number of other fucked up shit that I see on here... be prepared to get called out.  Back when I shipped Cesare/Lucrezia on The Borgias, I think I was pretty tame, but I still got anon hate and I just kind of was like “yep figured I would anyway moving on”.  Buck up, buttercup.  Tbh, there is much worse than some of the hate I’ve seen people receive on here that they freak out over.  Much worse off your computer, to be exact.  And it’s not fair, maybe, but you should probably be prepared for that.  For me, nothing on here can be as bad as my real life has been for the past few months lol.  That’s not even the worst that my life has been, and many people have it 10000000000000000% worse than I do.  I think you do need to have a thick skin on here, because not everyone will agree with you and there will always be toxicity in fandoms.

But what is an “anti”, really?  Is it someone that disagrees with you?  We’re all against something, you know.  Obviously the biggest anti thing I see is anti-r*ylo, and I don’t super like that ship either though I don’t care enough to express my opinion.  Or anti-j*nerys, which I have expressed my opinion about a good bit.  Everyone has a problematic ship, but I think the issue that “antis” have with those ships is the weird cultishness around them, the insistence that they MUST be canon (when canon is hardly the end all be all) and the fact that they’ve sort of taken over large chunks of the fandom.  I follow “antis”, and I’ve seen people for their ships be twice as vicious as they’ve ever been.  People claiming moral superiority are hardly the only ones sending hateful anons.

Also, you can indeed shut anon off and if it’s a problem you should probably do that.

My opinion is basically: that sucks, check yourself and your own behavior if people call you out, some will be right about your own issues and maybe you can fix that, but also some will just be assholes to be assholes.  And while fandom is usually based around fiction that somehow reflects reality, as all fiction does, it’s not real.  That’s so important to remember.  It’s not real.

i almost forgot about this whole ordeal, i haven’t visited her blog ever since this happened. and you’re right, i stopped caring at this point (but not really bc i’m still typing on a long-ass answer for this lolol), she’s complaining about me when in fact she has yet to block me (i just tried and i can still visit her blog even when i’m logged in?? just like everyone else hmm fishy ??) and if she really wanted to resolve the “drama” she would be messaging or @ing me instead of indirecting me like that. plus if she really did go through my blog, as she said, she would’ve seen my explanation as to why i didn’t dm her and instead made a public post. i explained it twice, yet she’s trying to paint me as the bad guy who succumbs to tumblr’s stupid callout culture when in fact this is the first time i’ve done something like this. it’s not like i wanted to get myself into this kind of mess and argue nonstop with someone who won’t admit to their wrongdoings lmao! that’s why the rest of this message is not directed at her but my followers, or whoever has seen my recent posts about this issue bc she obviously isn’t trying to understand or change her ways.

in all seriousness, i’m tempted to dissect her tags and point out all the discrepancies in her claims but i’ll address the main point. she pretends to not know exactly what i accused her of doing and says she gets hate. tbh if she believed she could get away with this then receiving hate was inevitable, however there is little to no reason why anyone would send her death threats. i’ve been on tumblr for 5 years, i’ve watched the kpop gif/gfx community grow and eventually joined to help post content, and i’ve yet to see someone get death threats merely for stealing gifs. content creators, when they find out their stuff has been taken without their permission, aren’t looking to send hate or make reposters miserable. they genuinely and sincerely only want an apology or for their works to be taken down; it’s rare for a content creator to resort to something as lowly as death threats. so if she really did receive death threats, especially from people who did not have their content stolen and are only trying to help, please understand where content creators are coming from bc that’s not okay. i didn’t intend for hate messages and death threats to be involved (as i have previously stated several times, but she probably didn’t see on my blog bc she only likes to see what she wants to see smh) and i apologize for the actions of those who may have sent them. but this doesn’t mean i’ll back off on my callout bc what she did was wrong and receiving death threats does not dismiss it. reposting and sending death threats are both unacceptable behaviors and i will apologize for my part if it did happen.

unfortunately, she really has missed the entire point of my post. i have used nothing but civil language and maybe a bit too much sarcasm, but i genuinely did not aim to have people target her with hate. my aim was for her to be aware that people know she’s practicing unacceptable behavior and for others to know that their creations have been misused. but sure, she can keep calling me a bully when the fact is, she called me a “piece of shit” and told me to “eat her ass”. go off, i guess.

last but not least, i’m glad i ruined snuper for her lmao this fandom doesn’t need someone as toxic as her and if she keeps acting like that, we don’t claim her. these swings and the entire snuper playground is off-limits and she can stay pressed. i’m over it.
