hi! i’m doing some research (just for myself) on early 1800s (around 1810s to 20s) american dress, and i was wondering if you had the time, if you had any resources you could recommend? most of the stuff i’m finding right now is out of the era, is full regency, or is cheap costumes, and i’m having trouble finding reputable sources. thank you so much! <3
Oh yeah, that can be tricky! It's an oft-overlooked era of American history.
Regency is definitely a good place to start; there was a strong stylistic similarity between mainstream fashions in the US and England at the time (as there remained for most of our post-colonization history). Fashion plates, news of the latest trends, and even clothing and accessories themselves moved pretty freely across the Atlantic from Europe.
If you're looking for specifically American clothing, try searching "Federal era clothing" or similar- that's what that period is called here in the States. The portraits of Gilbert Stuart are a great resource- known for painting the image of George Washington on our $1 bill, he also served the wealthy elites of American society during the Federal period. One of my favorites is his 1809 portrait of Sally Foster Otis:
Other American artists of the period to look into are Edward Greene Malbone and Henry Sargent. All three were also active earlier, though, so be sure to check the dates on the paintings.
The girl closes her eyes and seems to hear the sound of flowers blooming.

In fact, the most precious thing about this gift is not the beauty of a rose, but the eager expectations of the person who cultivates the rose and gives the gift, as well as the smile on the face of the loved one when receiving the gift.
This is what Nikki learned from her mother.
In this journey this year, cakes and bouquets are unforgettable memories,
but the best gift for Nikki is the companionship of friends around her all the way.
I find it hilarious that Googling “Rafael Nadal model” will turn up the pics in my previous post, while Googling “Roger Federer model” turns up the these pics:
