Noelle (2019) - Marc Lawrence (4/5)

This might be the best mediocre movie I’ve ever seen. Could have used a bigger budget (the reindeer are a bit rough), the predictable script goes heavy on Christmas-ing common phrases, and both Hader and Funches are very underutilized, but you can’t argue that Kendrick is able to pull off the “I don’t know what things are” shtick that Elf attempted, and it manages to genuinely tug on your heartstrings in the back end (as well as a couple positive moments of non-plot essential representation).

Knives Out (2019) - Rian Johnson (5/5)

Since he came on the scene with Brick nearly 15 years ago, Rian Johnson has always been a force to be reckoned with. He immediately began working with A-listers in every movie since, and even got to give his two cents on a major franchise (with three more to come down the road). Now, he’s assembled this all-star cast for what’s undoubtedly going to go down in history as a stellar mystery film about how rich people are evil, and every second is gold. Essentially introducing the world to Ana de Armas before she plays Marilyn Monroe next year was a remarkable choice, as she really holds her own against the legends with which she shares a screen; Evans playing against type and Craig’s accent come in at a close second, with Segan’s giddy performance third. My only major complaint is the lack of onscreen JGL, but if the schedule doesn’t allow, I can’t hold that against this movie.

La prima cosa che mi chiedo ogni volta che guardo un true crime o una produzione che ha come tema centrale un serial killer è cosa pensavano di lui le persone che lo conoscevano? Sospettavano qualcosa? Erano consapevoli del fatto che dietro alla maschera perfetta della persona che avevano accanto si nascondeva qualcosa di oscuro? ⠀ ⠀ Ted Bundy - Fascjnk criminale ci racconta proprio questo, in quanto narra le vicende che hanno coinvolto uno dei più famosi serial killer americani attraverso lo sguardo della sua compagna, Liz Kendall (pseudonimo di Elizabeth Kloepfer), la quale ha vissuto con lui per una decina d'anni. ⠀ ⠀ Zac Efron e Lily Collins Sono eccezionali nella loro interpretazione di questa coppia, il primo perché riesce a rendere al meglio la controversa figura di Bundy, un uomo insospettabilmente colpevole di aver ammazzato dozzine di donne in tutto il paese, la seconda perché ci trasmette tutte le controverse emozioni che Liz stava provando in quel periodo: amore, senso di colpa e paura. ⠀ ⠀ Consigliato agli amanti del True Crime perché, anche se non vengono mostrati i delitti, è ottimo per comprendere la mente di Bundy, un uomo controverso e abile nel mascherare le sue ossessioni. ⠀ ⠀ P.s.
