Hi friends. I'm in the mood to write a fic (maybe for @klaineadvent?) and seem to be in the mood for a high school AU - I need some inspirations. Any prompts/concepts for a high school Kurt meets Blaine?

I also have a potential college AU germinating (Kurt, an intern at Vogue, has a hook up with third year NYADA student Blaine. Kurt starts NYADA second semester (like in season 5) only to find out Blaine is his dance TA - something like that...)

But I'm actually more in the mood for a coming of age high school AU - help!

1. Debut fic:  Reverb by Fickelodeon

Post-Michael thru Season 4, Blaine’s just a little unwell, and it’s not long before everyone can tell. Physical and Mental illness. Hurt/Comfort. If Robin Cook wrote for Glee and General Hospital, the story would probably go like this. Universe Expansion for Seasons 3 and 4 wherein I add some elements to canon and leave some out but manage to get everyone back to place where they can still have the endings they got in canon. Honestly, I just wanted to write H/C, but the more I hurt Blaine, the more I realized he wasn’t going to handle that very well, so I added in diagnosed mental illness. All in all, it’s everything I love to read in fic all in one epic story, just in case I don’t ever get the chance to write these characters again.

2.  Page turner:  Wouldn’t Change a Thing  by notarelationship

On the eve of his junior year at Dalton, Blaine’s dad kicks him out of the house, dumping him at the bus stop, cutting him off, and leaving him homeless. This is the story of how he survives, meets Kurt, and ultimately triumphs.

Kurt really doesn’t have time to figure out the dating world between being a freshman at prestigious theatre school, LAADA, and his active but secret blogging life in the Sing!Fandom. So what if Sing! ended last year? There are still fics to read and actors to follow. Especially the uber talented heartthrob lead, Blaine Anderson. He can act. He can sing. He can even dance. He’s gay. He’s out. And he’s only 24. Kurt is willing to twiddle his thumbs and click refresh until Blaine Anderson’s next project.

He just didn’t expect the next project to be on his roommate Rachel’s new TV show.

Staying in a castle and rubbing shoulders with European nobility is pretty overwhelming, but the most remarkable part is meeting Rachel’s brother Blaine, the new prince who Kurt instantly begins crushing on. This summer is either going to be a fairy tale come true, or result in multiple diplomatic catastrophes.Inspired by Meg Cabot’s Princess Diaries series and the movie adaptations, but no background knowledge is needed to understand the fic.

Blaine gets hit by a taxi and ends up in the hospital - so naturally, as his best friend and long-standing roommate, Kurt visits him at every possible opportunity until he gets to come home.

It only takes a couple of visits before Kurt notices something impossibly endearing: the beeping of Blaine’s heart rate monitor speeds up whenever his friends come to visit. At least, Kurt assumes it happens with all of Blaine’s friends, until Sam has no idea what he’s talking about.

The Roulette is back, Peeps!

Hey! I'm sorry for my hiatus. Life was keeping my head closing to the underwater level, but I think I'm finally getting back to the shallow end on life's ocean. LOL. I've decided that we will continue with the Roulette, but I'm going to try to pace myself this time. We will write two prompts this year We will try to keep both stories at ten chapters or less. Here are the prompts:

story prompt -Wedding Planner Kurt and Best Man Blaine have to work together to keep a wedding between feuding families from turning into a brawl while fighting off the advances of the bridesmaids and the Groom's handsy gay cousin.

9. -Kurt is an employee at Hummel Tire and Lube, and they're short handed. Burt hires Blaine as an extra set of hands, but he and Kurt do not hit it off. Co workers Klaine. Enemies to Lovers. We will be writing this story from July through September. We will publish in October.

Barking Up The Wrong Bakery (16/16) - COMPLETE

Notes: And here we are. Since I completely disregarded the actual posting schedule (oop), we’ve neared the end. I had an absolute blast writing it, and I hope you also had an absolute blast reading it.

One year later

**

“Down boy, down!” Kurt says to his golden retriever. Bradshaw saw a pigeon and went nuts, dragging Kurt through the entire street.

Kurt cannot fully judge his dog, though. He’ll probably feel the same enthusiasm once he sees Blaine again. Kurt and Bradshaw make his way to Dalton Doggy dog bakery. Kurt usually visits his boyfriend in the morning, before other appointments, but he had to vote beforehand.

Lady Gaga’s event was so influential, it even led to a new law proposal about pet well-being and better adoption systems. Of course Kurt had to vote yes. He organised the aforementioned event!

As usual, Tim greets him with an uninterested look, but Kurt knows better by now. Tim thinks Kurt’s great. Kurt had a hard time believing it until Kamelah confirmed it at a staff outing.

Kurt unleashes Bradshaw, who is always on his best behaviour in the bakery. Of course Kurt and Blaine adopt the one dog who doesn’t care for treats. Instead, Josefien brings a plate of dog-friendly vegetables. If Kurt didn’t know better, he’d think Bradshaw could’ve been one of the #fitgirls he works with.

Vegan dog parties are the newest trend. Despite that questionable trend, business at the Dalton Doggy dog bakery keeps increasing. Blaine’s staff got bigger and better. Especially better, now that Cooper is gone.

Cooper’s poorly planned “revenge” went viral on the internet. He’s finally famous for something, but instead of perks, it only brought him disadvantages. He could definitely kiss all his big dreams goodbye and he’s moved back to Lima, much to Blaine’s relief.

To make matters funnier, he got replaced by a baker named Tom. Tim finds it hilarious.

Right now, Sinéad opens the door to the kitchen when she sees Kurt.

Blaine’s mixing dog cake batter by hand, even though there are some lavish mixers in the back. He looks determined and his tongue sticks out. Some flour is in Blaine’s hair.

“Well aren’t you gorgeous?” Kurt says. He means it.

Blaine looks up from his mixture and really, Kurt and Blaine are giving Bradshaw a run for his money when it comes to the excited puppy look. Blaine drops his mixing bowl, spilling batter everywhere, and he runs to Kurt to kiss him. It’s possible now that the mask mandate is gone. Hopefully 2023 will be the year COVID is gone for good. It certainly makes kissing your boyfriend easier!

“Missed you,” Blaine whispers against Kurt’s lips.

“You just saw me this morning,” Kurt laughs. After all, they live together.

“I can still miss you,” Blaine presses another kiss on Kurt’s lips, “How was the voting?”

“Great, great. It feels amazing to think I’ve sort of contributed to this.”

“I’ll vote after work,” Blaine says, “I first have to figure out this new cake mix. I can’t believe Justin Bieber wants something new for his party- or actually, I can.”

Kurt reaches for an apron. “I can help. I meet with Bieber’s team at three, so I have some time.”

“I’d like that.”

Together, they start to mix ingredients. Faarax comes in and he puts on some music. At one point, Kurt and Blaine start singing and other staff members join in, even the ones who are tone-deaf. Still, it’s perfect.

Kurt is forever grateful that the other dog bakery had to cancel a year ago. It led him to the Dalton Doggy dog bakery, which is the best dog bakery ever, especially with Cooper gone. Blaine’s become his main baking partner for Kurt’s events and together with their respective teams they take the dog party world by storm.

End notes: Of course Bradshaw is named after Bradshaw the dog from Little Numbers. I gotta try to give a shout-out to the fic that got me into the Klaine fic world. 

Fun fact, tomorrow marks the 10 year anniversary of the last chapter of Little Numbers. 10 years! And the fandom is still here!

I am sending my mormon!klaine wish-scenes in an ask - you can publish and I imagine others will add theirs to it, or you can keep private just for you - whatever you want! The world you have created is epic (and really should be a mini-series on TV but I have no such connections). So I hope that in slow burn (but not TOO slow) mormon!klaine fashion, we will get to see:

- The kitchen conversation after Crazy For You where they talk about all the new and what they're ready for and what they're not, and how they see sex and what they have, and all that - my cliffhanger!

- The scene after Summer Skies (I mean that ending has strong 'I wanna go to your house' the first time vibes - though not sure what first time that specific night will bring)

-Blaine comes out to Schwester Rose (they have a nice friendship!)

-Conversation/s between them about sex and religion and how each of them (particularly Kurt, as Blaine sort of gets it instinctively) shift their thinking on what is allowed/acceptable/holy

- First time they see each other naked on purpose

-Kurt telling someone (friend? Burt?) that he is with Blaine and how awesome/life affirming it is - maybe Blaine overhearing?

-Kurt confessing to Blaine that he is willingly/happily masturbating (omg that shower scene was amazing)- before or after they first kiss

-Having to navigate being together and being distracted by each other with all the responsibilities of their mission

- a scene back in the US where they are together and in the same place (before the scene where Kurt is thinking Blaine will propose) and "allowed" to be together (maybe a weekend away somewhere) publicly and how they navigate a freedom they've never had before

-all the scenes where they navigate sex and their own lack of knowledge/experience (come on, who doesn't want those firsts!)

-Elder Nixon figures out that they are together (we know he is supportive from the dentist!)

Those are the ones I've got right now. I can't wait for all the rest and thank you for your writing.

Woohoo!!!! This is delightful @gleekto. And most of these are in the plan. The one that wasn't was because of technical mission-related reasons, but I might be able to work around it.

Alright everyone. Now that a few recs are up, I’m asking for some feedback. Answer all of the questions or some but I’d like to know how I’m doing here. Thank you.

1. Are the recs interesting? Do they make you want to read the fic?

2. Am I posting often enough? Not enough? I’m trying to post a recommendation twice a day. It may slow down later, but what do you guys think?

3. Are the fics varied enough? So far, I’ve only posted longer fics. Would you like me to switch it up?

4. Eventually, I’d like to do a trope spotlight and all week long, give people a chance to review their favorite fics in that trope. What do you all think?

5. Would you like me to review your fics? If I’ve read them, I’ll put your fics in cue. If not, I’ll put them on a to-read list. Pm me if you’re interested.

6. Would you like to help me run the page? Right now, I’m off work for summer but when school starts back, things get busy. It’s my hope that other people start to leave reviews on here, but I’d Lionel for this blog to grow.

Author Spotlight: Redheadgleek Day 4

What other Glee Fandom authors do you enjoy? Can you recommend some of your favorite fics?

I read so much fanfic so it's really impossible for me to chose favorites and we have so many good writers still active in this fandom. I'm going to give you 5 classic fics that I return to over and over and 5 new fics that everybody should read. (I'm already feeling so much guilt over leaving out so many that I consider my favorites).

The Classics:

1) A Nation of Two by Zoneviled - It was one of the very first Klaine fics I ever read and it's still one that I return to. I love the insecurities and just how "high school" it feels and it's one of the "Blaine transfers to Mckinley" fic, but it twists it by doing it when they were still doing the pre-dating dance.

2) Near Misses by flaming_muse. It's a classic, but I still remember how much it moved and gutted me when I read it. Also check out her episode reaction fics as they always had additional insights into the glee world.

3) Scholars and Gentlemen by MaryFlanner is one of the best fics that I have ever read in fandom, hands down. The exploration of grief still guts me and the words are pure poetry.

4) Do I read every Star Trek AU that this fandom produces? Yes. And do I love them all? Also yes, but this one especially because of how well it fits into canon too. All I Ask is a Tall Ship by AntarcticBird.

She also wrote my hands down favorite story of Jesse being an annoying roommate in What Are the Odds. (I'm also a sucker for every Harry Potter AU and movie AUs and did I mention that I love AUs?)

5) Villiageidiot's fic are some of my favorite humor fic in fandom. The bro code (and Blaine Anderson's guide to breaking it) always has me in stitches.  

(And I'm always on the look out for a copy of one of my favorite series of all time, called the Most!Verse by miggy, which was a gen fic exploring Kurt and Rachel's friendship in New York and was written before Blaine was really a character. Sadly, it's been deleted, but I would give anything to read it again. So message me if you happen to have a copy of it.)

Newer stuff:

1) @klaineanummel​ writes some of the most intriguing AUs that I have ever read. I am drawn into every one of their stories. I highly rec Story of My Life which they wrote for Klaine Advent (I know!) and Eighteen Going on Extinct to get you started.

2) @kuhlaine​ is a new writer in fandom and their stories are stellar AUs that are absolutely captivating in their world building. I recommend One More Day is Not Enough.

3) You all are reading @darriness​'s A Fic A Day series, yes? Which is her second month of writing fic every day, on top of the year where she wrote fic every day, and the times when she wrote fic every day for Klaine Advent. Plus the stories are cute and sweet and just what every day needs.

4) @byebyeblainey​ is another new writer. Her fic about a famous Kurt running into middle school teacher Blaine was delightful. Go read it: When Are You Going to Sing For Me.

5) @gleekto​'s Even Better Than The Real Thing just completed and was a really delightful Famous!Blaine dating an unknown superfan!Kurt romp.

Also, check out all of the excellent stories written for the Blaine Big Bang and Glee Potluck Big Bang. So many good stories that I'm still making my way through.

5) It's only updated once or so a year, but the wait is always worth it.That's How You Know by @afterthenovels is the perfect Enchanted AU. I love every bit of it - please read and leave a comment of encouragement.

1. From 1 to 5 stars, how would you rate your writing? (No downplaying yourself)

I’d say a 4. Always room for improvement, right? But I’m always proud of the fics I put out into the world.

2. Why do you write fanfiction?

It just started as something fun and I saw other people doing it but then I found out how much I loved to write. So, now it’s to keep my writing fresh and to create worlds/experiences that glee didn’t give us!

3. What do you think makes your writing stand out from other works?

I’d liked to think I put out different kinds of fanfiction. New ideas, I guess.

4. Are there any writers that inspire you?

Oh my, so many! Famous authors like John Green and Cassandra Clare are reason I want to be a writer. But fanfiction writers there are too many to name. But here’s a few: @twobirdsonesong @coffeeorderwrites @universalromance @darriness @kurtstinypurse @gleekto

All of them are SUCH amazing writers, I’ve reread their stories an embarrassing amount of times.

Full Fic: Chemistry Sucks

Summary: Nerd!Kurt/ Popular!Blaine high school AU - Kurt joins Glee club in his junior year to please his dad, though he’d rather just hide out in the library until he can graduate and get out of Lima.

Turns out he’s not the only gay kid in town. Too bad the other out gay kid is cocky and popular senior, Blaine Anderson. Sure of himself, gets all the solos, things served to him on a platter. Kurt finds him shallow and infuriating.

Blaine finds Kurt square and irritating.

Yet at a party one night, they promise to sleep together if they don’t have other opportunities by the end of the year. A dare. Naturally competitive spirits.

Unfortunately, I do not have easy access to any of those old interviews -- it would involve digging into TDB archives or through YouTube, but I wouldn’t even know where to start.  Does anyone know? @gleekto? 

Interesting thoughts about Ryan Murphy! Please don’t mind me while I think out loud for a moment.  This isn’t an argument for or against what you said, just some rambling of my own.  Of course, while I’ll never claim to understand anyone fully other than myself (and even that’s questionable at times) I always theorized a few things happen over the course of Glee -- 

1. that he had American Horror Story that he became reoccupied with, and that he’s always someone who’s looking forward to the new ‘thing’ he can create, and less back on the stuff he’s already accomplished.  I was always of mind that he was kind of over it after season 2. 

2. the ideas he had for the show were very different from the entire fandom (not just Klaine -- I remember the Brittana fans being much louder at him)  This was all in the beginning throws of social media -- and the people on the show crossed over the line a bit much with fandom, which makes me think that it’s better in most cases when there’s separation of artist and audience.  I remember the night that he was on Twitter -- and deleted everything after he had a nasty run in with fans over the episode Naked.  I feel like that’s the moment when he recoiled firmly away from being as open about it as he was. 

At the same time, out of the three creators, I always felt like Murphy was the biggest champion for Klaine, and perhaps the kindest to us in a lot of ways.  Ian Brennan -- who wrote much of Sue, and a lot of the parody stuff on the show, often seemed to write the stinging insults flung at people (most notably, Santana’s mega rant at Kurt in season 6).  And Brad Falchuk always seemed bitter more people didn’t like Will or Finchel (which is interesting when I learned listening to Kevin and Jenna’s podcast that Brad self-identified as Will)  

Murphy also didn’t back down when Chris and Darren were both a little... eh, maybe teen marriage isn’t the best story line (and even I don’t think they were wrong on that one) but Murphy seemed to be pretty firm on writing what essentially was a fairy tale for LGBT+ folks. 

It does make me wonder, though, what was going on in that writers room during season 3-5 -- because even if I enjoyed a lot of it, the show was all over the place, and I do wonder if Murphy was kind of letting it meander because he was on to other things.

Favourite song: Impossible to say (that’s me saying I can’t answer because I love music too much to have a ‘favourite - that is not the name of a song lol) though I will say i have different music genres for different situations. I listen to acoustic music when I read, I listen to 80s music when I clean, and I listen to Broadway and pop music pretty much 24/7.

Favourite instrument: Not something I’ve ever really thought about. I played saxophone in school but that was about 20 years ago. Favourite instrument to listen to or watch someone play? Probably acoustic guitar.
