I read in the Gospel of John, the story about Jesus encountering a man who had been paralyzed for thirty-eight years! John 5:1-15; Jesus asked him a question that caught me off guard, “Do you want to get well?” Jesus was not just asking if he wanted to get well, he was asking how badly he wanted it. After thirty-eight years this was the only life the man had ever known. I asked myself... was he secretly afraid to get well because of what he might have to do next? Had he found comfort in his current situation because that was all he’d ever known? What about you? Have you found a false sense of security in our insecurity? Just like this man, it is so easy to find excuse for not doing something or achieving our goals. We can even quote the bible to support our point! 😀 It is so true that if you want something so bad, you will find a way to get it no matter what. The man could have asked someone, a relative, neighbour... to help him. So, how badly do you want it? If you want something badly enough there should be nothing that can stand in your way of getting it. You see, God’s desire for us is to prosper and be in good health. Do you want to be free from your insecurities? How much do you want it? Remember, whosoever the Son of Man has set free, is indeed free. Therefore, there should be no stopping you! Yes it's not always easy... You had to be there...

We’ve all had that moment when we’re retelling a story and you’re so excited or laughing but you look around and you slowly realise that you’re losing your audience and the punchline just wasn’t that funny the second time round... I suppose you had to be there.

That’s how I feel about experiences in life that are blessed and sent from God just for you.

A series of events will be perfectly orchestrated in such a way that only you will understand the significance, the probability of those events happening naturally and the relevance to you.

People like to call those series of events coincidences but they’re not because they meant something to you. If you look at them they actually spoke to you, answered a question or confirmed an action that you took that you may have been unsure about. We often brush it off, laugh at the chances of that happening and carry on as usual.

But what if we looked at those events and asked the question, what if that was a little nudge, a little nudge to say, trust yourself, follow your heart or you were right? What if they were gentle messages saying “don’t be afraid I’ve got your back, look out for your colleague, I’ve got your back”. What if they were a little message saying “go on, invest a little in yourself, commit, you’ll always have enough - do it from the heart you’ll be fine”.

When you start seeing these moments as little nudges forward like how you nudge a friend to go and speak to that person they’d like to get to know a little better or a parent nudges a child saying “go on, you’ll be fine”, then you start to see these moments differently, you start to realise that you’re not alone and that someone has got your back.

That’s why ‘You’ had to be there, it just doesn’t mean the same to someone else.

So next time you have one of those ‘coincidences’ try doing as I did and stop and say hold on a minute, was that for me? Then choose to believe it was and smile to yourself (or laugh and drive like a crazy person like I did) and know God’s got your back.
