Hannibal doesn't believe that God is cruel merely because of the disasters that he references (the church collapsing, the plane crashing). No, those are thin guises of examples that only back up his theory to other people. He can't tell anyone the real reason. The truth is, God gazed upon an eight year old boy, desperate with love for his sister, fighting for life in the snow, and He made the unspeakable happen just for His own amusement. Pondering jealous post-fall Will and I needed to share

Hannibal loves performing acts of service, and I have no doubt that he'd do all the housewife-y things (cooking, taking off Will's jacket, laying out his outfits for fancy events etc etc). But I'm absolutely smitten with the idea of him bathing Will. Running shampoo through his hair, meticulously scrubbing the dirt from under his nails, washing away all evidence of Will having experienced anything other than Hannibal during the day.

And I know that Will would love it. He enjoys Hannibal's touch. Has as far back as early S1. He would thoroughly enjoy Hannibal's heavy undivided attention.

But Hannibal is a prick, and I think that one day random when he was itching to piss off Will, he would wait until his soapy hands were sunk into Will's hair, and he'd bring up the fact that he's done the same for Bedelia.

And I think he would get exactly 2 minutes of satisfaction from Will's not-entirely-composed jealousy, until Will calmly sat up, and let Hannibal's hands slip from his hair. I think that minuscule bit of satisfaction would continue to dwindle into upset longing as Will rinsed off himself, dried off himself, and left Hannibal alone without another glance.

I think Will would leave him aching for simple touches as punishment.

spoilers for season one of Hannibal (and Death Note) ahead

I just finished watching season one of Hannibal (instead of doing my assignments), and what a diabolical man is Hannibal Lecter. I mean, he had this plot in mind to frame Will from the very start!

It was like watching Light and L duel it out in a battle of wits, except L (being Will) was way too trusting and unsuspecting of those around him and constantly having a mental breakdown, and Light's (being Hannibal) smarts superseded his L. And just as in Death Note, Light comes out on top (for now).

I honestly cannot imagine how I will grow to like Hannibal's character again in future seasons as the rest of the fandom seems to have, but we shall see. And I looked it up, encephalitis only takes a few days/weeks to go away when treated, but when left untreated, it is catastrophic to the victim. Will would have been fine had he been treated, but Hannibal decided to lie about it and ruin Will's life all because he was "curious" (and I suppose to avoid getting caught, but still).

Am eager to see how the rest of the show plays out.

Everyone always gives Hannibal hell for refusing to acknowledge that his trauma had any impact on him, especially since he's a skilled psychiatrist, but imagine if he did admit that to himself. Then what? Then, all illusions of being self-made disappear. He won't be the serial killer who chooses to kill out of curiosity and appreciation for the art of death. He'd just be a product of his trauma. Everything that he assumed control of, even the ritual of eating his victims that he'd carefully cultivated, all of that would just be a byproduct of that winter. He would be completely at the mercy of that memory, his whole life dictated and warped by that incident. And he would lose himself. Better to believe this was all his design. Better to dismiss that winter and say that it was determined to happen from the beginning. It would have happened anyway. The teacup would've shattered anyway. He had made it shatter. This was his design.

Just thinking about how amnesia and memory loss are possible side effects of untreated Encephalitis.

Can you imagine if in the beginning of S2, Will started forgetting Hannibal. Like not just forgetting their conversations during bouts of lost time, but forgetting him. Forgetting that he liked Hannibal's company, forgetting that they had weekly appointments, forgetting that he tried to kill Hannibal, forgetting that they were friends.

Holy shit, Hannibal would experience emotions he'd never felt before. I mean, it would be a completely different type of grief than if Will had died, because Will would still be alive. He'd still have the personality that Hannibal grew to love, grew to ache for, but he'd have lost some of his ability to understand Hannibal. He'd have lost an important chunk of their history. He'd be like a ghost of himself.

Hannibal will have ripped apart his place in Will's mind with his own negligent hands. Their story would be a tragedy.
