I know I’ve been gone from this blog in awhile -mostly because while I do consider myself a fan of KBR in some ways, I’m less a fan of them and more a fan of their books and that makes it hard to celebrate their books when they directly profit off of me celebrating their books- BUT I’m about to do my third reread of The Addicted series (plus probably another round of reading of AE and maybe the Bad Reputation Duet. I’m still debating Like Us because a lot of that series is. Not Good). And I just wanted to say that there will be analysis coming! Here are things I have in mind

Problematic Like Us - talking about KBR and all of the reasons I find them problematic and hard to support bc if I’m going to celebrate their books, I want all consumers to know what they’re getting into. This is a must for me. But it will take rereading the text and more research. So be patient on this one.

Character analysis of the Core Six + Garlow and also AE characters. If I reread Like Us, tack them on here too.

Ship Analysis for all of the main ships as well.

A specific “Ryke isn’t a groomer but Krista and Becca were f*cking yikes in some ways when it comes to the Raisy relationship” analysis. I’ve actually started writing this one but I want to reread the series just to make sure my facts about the ship is accurate - and this is coming from the perspective of someone who does more or less ship Raisy

Honestly, within the Jonathan Hale essay, we might talk about how both Calloway parents suck as well, but despite all of these parents being awful, only one is truly villainized by the text and the fandom - and it’s not the one who physically/mentally abused his son and had sex with (a) minor(s). There’s no love lost between Jonathan Hale and me. That’s your one warning. So yeah, I know it’s been like. A drought of content, but I’m planning on coming back swinging. I hope y’all will wanna read the silly little words that I write.

There’s nothing like sleep-yearning me making honest observations, as quickly as possible to go to bed. I think I work better that way! LOL! I’m gonna try to recreate the ask/reflection of the first 1:25min of The Bear (S1e1) I made a few days ago.

So, picking up from the anticipation of a stove top of igniting. Carmy is attempting to rediscover his passion or accept that he is but a tool in this greater machine (read as family - bio and/or OG beef). Just when the flame comes to life, there’s a cut to a bridge. This is the bridge, I assume, where Mikey committed suicide. I’m not sure if that bridge is one where it opens up to let taller ships through and it should be noted that Carmy is crossing into a yellow territory- where things could break apart or herald new ideas to flow. Note: yellow signifies the warning to slow down. And, right there, in the middle, is the caged Bear - sitting right at a breaking point. I see this caged bear as Mikey and Carmy.

This was the dream. This was the end goal. But whose vision was it? Carmy approaches the caged animal, attempting to calm and approach it with “Shh.” He’s crouched down, moving slowly with conscious effort as he nears this wild thing. There’s anxiety within Carmen but it’s controlled and precise. Opening the cage, Carmen whispers that “It’s okay.” The black bear (which is supposed to be a “friendly bear” opposed to a brown bear) comes out as Carmen says: I know. Suddenly, the bear lunges, Carmen wakes up in his blue apron at the OG beef, something buzzing. I notated all of this because, as I mentioned previously, this has shown who Carmen is, the restaurant, his family and what they all mean to each other as well as the lives of those the interact with. Carmen is the peacekeeper- in a way. He’s trying to make things right, show that the family is okay. That he’s okay.

Carmen, at the end of the day, decided to let the bear out of its cage. The proverbial cat is out of the bag. This can stand for so many things; however, the telling part is that all The Bear symbolizes attacks Carmen while he dreams. This may be a foreshadowing of how all encompassing and destructive letting the bear out can be for himself while he’s all alone. That what he thought was the endgame is only going to tear him apart. (Please excuse any typos and such).

Musical Notes and Brush Strokes

I've been back through my long fic adding in all of the lovely art that I've collected of my two blorbos. If you've been reading, you might like to flick back through the chapters and take a look. I love every single piece so dearly, many of them made by friends on the HLU Discord Server and from lovely people here on Tumblr. I have a few pieces to add to the last few chapters as they go up. Also, I've been feeling inspired by my incredibly awesome friend @maylilithreign to start making a playlist for my lovely silly Stardust and her Harvey. I've added songs that come to mind for various chapters of the long fic and hope to do this for the short fics and one-shots too. But you know how it is when someone says, 'Pick a song!' I go, 'Uh... but there are so many...'

If anyone here has thought of any songs when reading specific moments in any of my stories, please let me know and I'll add them to the notes in the fics and the playlist. Then when the playlist is a little longer, I'll put a link here.

In the meantime, the next chapter and my monthly spicy fic will be coming soon!
