Back on the home diy/restoration train! Been a few weeks but decided today is the day I get back to it. The last few weeks I've been either too tired after work or too busy on my own business to give DIY work any time! So here I am on a windy Saturday afternoon finally getting round to painting the fronts of my radiator covers in a nice matt black! Looking forward to getting these and the rest of the covers painted!

So the last few weeks I've been starting work on a new project.... Long story short my grandad has had to move out his home to a Carehome (and hospital as it's now week 9 he's been in hospital). Anyway, he lived in a static caravan and well we could sell it to the holiday park owners for penies but he suggested I move into it. I live at home at the moment but I turn 33 this year and desperately want my own space, so naturally I said yes. It's daunting but exciting! So yeah, my new project it renovating the static caravan into a modern home for me! It means I'll have more space, a second bedroom which will be an office for my business and finally a place to call my own!

I've already set up a new Pinterest board for inspiration and bought a notebook to keep track of ideas, to-do lists and inspo. Time to release the hidden home designer within! I'll be tagging posts about this project with #New-Home-Project-2023 for anyone interested! For now, here are some before photos of the place (except my office space) that I took while starting to clear stuff out!

I'm excited and nervous for this project but ever so grateful to have family like I have! I'm sure I'll be sharing the ups and downs as I go but let the fun commence!

The day has come where I finally build my bed! I have zero energy today but will fight through. The UK is having a mini heatwave right now and it's horrible for people like me who love autumn and winter over spring and summer! Can see this being an all day affair but hey ho, least I've got a visitor chilling with me while my mum and stepdad go for a wedding anniversary meal out!

Another milestone with moving to my new place! Finally ordered a fridge freezer and got confirmation my bed is coming on Saturday! Just need go sort a mattress and a sofa then I've got the essentials! Still planning to move in over the weekend and just work on the rest as I go but yeah, it still doesn't feel real to me yet!

Like I've spent the last few weeks clearing out, painting, cleaning and sorting out stuff yet it still doesn't feel real that I'll be living alone in a few days time. Everyone else around me seems more excited then me recently but I think that just because it doesn't feel like my home yet. I'm sure once I do more to personalise it and settle into it, it'll feel like my home. Just going to take time to adjust but anywho, I got my desk set up earlier, the new fridge is ordered and I just need to sort out the other key things and continue moving more of my stuff in. Here's to change and growth 💛

What a morning! Been up since 6:30am and been at the new place from 7:30am! Demolished unuseable furniture, have a charity come and collect other bits (although they didn't take everything we offered, madness really)! Have my brother come and do the electrical work as that's his line of work, 3 trips to the tip and now a hole in the floor due to damp! Yep it's been a busy one! Already hit my activity goal on my apple watch and its not even 2pm ha! Finally getting the place gutted and ready to make my own!

It is sad taking it to bits, having known this space to be my grandads home, the time he’s spent there and here I am removing it all! We’ve kept his personal and important belongings! It's a bitter sweet situation, sad it's no longer his home and he’ll never set foot in it again, but also a happy moment to know I can repurpose this space to become by own! Sure it's a static caravan but it's no less a home with 4 sides, lounge, kitchen, 2 bathrooms and 2 bedrooms. I'm lucky to be given this space and I hope the changes I make don't upset my grandad but make him feel happy to know his place has become my place! I'm rambling anyway but just a brain fart while sharing my hectic day! Pictures below 😋

Finally sorted out a bed frame for the new place after a few days of deliberating. Like I'm trying to spend responsibly but at the same time I want to feel comfortable and love having my own place. If I treat myself to a few things like a comfortable bed, cosy sofa and decent tv then the rest I can DIY, craft stuff and make it more personal as time goes on!

The new bed comes on Saturday! Now to sort out a mattress😋

Carpet fitting day and the carpet fitter that’s shown up looks like Matthew Lillard! Soon as I saw him I wanted to say “Shaggy, is that you?” in a Scooby Doo voice but I thought I’d look a right weirdo if I did 😂😂😂 yeah I'm strange ha!

Pics (of the carpet) to follow later but while I leave the fitters in the trusty hands of my mum, I'm off to collect furniture from Ikea. The first of many trips to ikea over the coming weeks I think 😂🙈

Decided to book a day off work and spent it doing jobs at my new place/refurb project, plus had my little helper with me haha! Removed built in units, electric fires, flooring and tested paints for the feature walls. Still not sure which colour to go with but hey ho, I'll pick the right one when I'm ready! All in all a productive day and feeling like I've accomplished something!

Body is achy and sore now but ready for a rest and prepare for a busy as heck weekend!
