Decided to do a quick-ish warm up painting of some Hong Kong Egg tarts. Not sure they came out entirely the way I wanted it too. But trying out a more brush-y look.

Asian - Hong Kong Style Egg Tarts Chinese egg tarts are incredibly simple to make, and you can store any extras for up to three days in the fridge. This recipe is lightly sweetened, but you can adjust the amount of sugar used on the crust and the filling to suit your preferences. You can sweeten the filling more if you'd like. I hope you like it!

Simply Splendid Bakery, 1273 E Valley Blvd, Alhambra, CA 91801

Simply Splendid Bakery is a Hong Kong style bakery that bakes cakes, cake rolls, loaves of bread, buns, egg tarts, savory pies, and pastries. I also saw Hong Kong style sweet dessert soups in the fridge. The baked buns are individually wrapped. They also offer drinks, including Hong Kong milk tea. Baked buns include the usual red bean, taro, coconut, tuna, egg & ham, cheese, hot dog, custard, coffee, etc. Lots to choose from. I’m impressed by how perfectly round their baked buns are.
Portuguese egg tart ($1.99): Served warm. The crust was thin and crisp. The custard was eggy, creamy, and sweet. This was decent. The other type of egg tart they had looked like it had a flakier crust.
Red bean mochi bun: favorite item because it was filled with a lot of soft, chewy mochi (rice cake). The chewiness of the rice cake complemented the soft baked bun. There was also a layer of chunky red bean paste that wasn’t too sweet.
BBQ pork baked bun ($2.30): My first few bites were all bun, no filling. Once I reached the center, there was quite a bit of pork. It was chopped finely. I wasn’t a fan of the mushy texture. It was slightly sweet. The bun was soft and tender.
Prices are about average for Asian bakeries. The signs are in English and Chinese. Simply Splendid is in a busy strip mall near several Chinese restaurants.
I went back and really liked the yogurt bun. The bun was so soft and chewy. Plus, it was lightly sweetened. I haven’t seen yogurt buns elsewhere.
Impressed with their variety and how they don’t overly sweeten their buns.
4 out of 5 stars.

ok so i established the hc that his favorite dim sum dish is phoenix claws but that he also likes steamed char siu bao (which aligns w/ his signature dish)
the first two chibi doodles and the full-body art are based off of that ^
i hc that the aunties in the market will watch his performances and offer him food from their stalls at the end as a thank you as well ^^ i imagine the aunties beckoning him over like "leng zai" or "gaming zaizai"
anyway. that's what the chibi doodle at the bottom is based off of
pictured in the art is a paper wrapped cake, hong kong style egg tart, and egg puffs bc i also mentioned previously that i hc that he likes mild sweets

Cha Chaan Teng, an iconic Hong Kong-style cafe serves affordable Canto-Western cuisine and drinks for the locals. Egg tart is one of the famous dishes.
I was greatly inspired by the 60s interior design in this movie to reminisce about old Hong Kong.
