hey, i'm new to cr fandom and wasn't there when c2 was airing, may i ask out of curiosity what was the fandom's problem with its ending?

i want to start by saying this post is meant as a personal memory and not an incitement of any discourse. i do not want a lot of asks or replies or anything about this if i can help it. i would also politely ask that no one reblog this as i really just. dont want attention about this when ive discussed it to death on twitter. i also apologize for not having screenshots but i truly cannot bring myself to wade through that again. it was bad enough i still have nightmares about it.

basically, about 3 eps before c2's end, matt clarified on twitter the campaign was coming to a close, and that. did not go well. you see, folk (myself included, though i wasnt part of the following clown show) were very sure c2 would continue a while. it felt unfinished as the empire/trent had to be taken down, and for some of us ludinus was clearly the big bad, etc. so this was incredibly jarring to a lot of folk. and with that came anger. a lot of critique came down to fear of things being rushed, a lack of closure, claims of extreme neoliberialism due to not taking down the empire (i could write an essay on and cite multiple leftist activists who have stated c2 is truthful to the activist tale, not neoliberalism, and also how c3 deconstructs beau & caleb's actions, but everyone is allowed to have their own opinion on it), and that if shadowgast did not fuck in this short timespan the fans were going to kill liam & matt. and threats of killing were the least of what ensued. im just gonna put a tw here for discussion of extreme harrassment and even threat of necrophilia/rape:

people were. atrocious. beyond atrocious. know why 4sd/a lot of q&a events of theirs for a while had no fan questions? partially bc fans were frankly terrible at asking non-ship questions on talks machina, but mainly because folk FILLED their inboxes with insults (and a twitter account was made of screenshots bragging about it) that only the crew would get to filter out, not the cast. know why dani was terrified to show her face on 4sd for a bit? c2 fans would not let up on how it was her cishet fault fjorjester happened. people thought the solution to alleged neoliberalism was to therefore @ travis saying they would defile his veteran fathers corpse. if there was any solid discussion critiquing c2 happening, it was so drowned that actors who had nothing to do with the show told cr fans to stay away if that was how they treated their favorite creators wanting a break. it really didnt help that a certain disgraced talks machina host was firing potshots on twitter when the cast seemed to be just trying to take it all in, so more discourse was kicked up from him. in general besides all of that, you had the average death & even a few rape threats you would expect from the pits of fan entitlement. the way they were hardly the most notable of the insults hurled their way still rattles the mind. and thats just what i saw. my friends have claimed to have seen worse, but if we can help it we dont discuss it in detail, it's that bad. like i said, any idea of an actual conversation about c2 and how someone felt about it from an analysis perspective was not even a drop in the bucket; there was no actual discourse but rather spitting hatred pouring over that mistook personal grievances for excuses to mistreat quite literally anyone around them who didnt agree that threatening to defile someone was funny bittersweet revenge.

the thing is, after the c2 finale happened? i mean, a lot of folk didnt originally like it (i think it's generally pretty well liked now, and i enjoy it), but it wrapped up a lot of issues pretty well. all that terror & terrorizing over a fictional story was really for nothing. and even if it had ended undebateably badly did anything warrant that fallout?

there are of course a few other factors that seperate cast from fandom now. laura also got innumerable threats from tlou fans for playing some antagonist character, twitter is a dysfunctional shithole, and it's just rational the more popular you get to not be buddy-buddy with fans. but that was. a Time, for sure. c3 is a decent campaign but im far from the first person to note that many of its traits are set in trying to find vox machina's fixed story beats so no story beat is left "unturned" and being as un-m9-like as possible, even when they love the m9. a lot of the worst m9 fans now who harrass other campaign enjoyers and lament c2 being "an unloved middle child" are folk who never left the bitterness they held in that time. for as much discourse as c3 has kicked up i really dont think any of it compares to the sheer scale of what happened late may 2021, and im hoping with all my heart it never does reach that level ever again (i think c3 has a slightly smaller (at least online) fanbase compared to c2, and isnt marked by a pandemic hiatus, so hopefully that means something).

i hope i answered your question. i really hate remembering this time but sometimes i think it should be remembered so folk know what the cost of extreme parasociality is. the distance the cast has from fans now is not only earned but maybe should have always been there, so things never evolved to that extremity. but now it's done and gone. i envy people who watch cr on their own merits and didn't get sucked into twitter at the time; it has been fascinating watching folk say they love the travelercon/aeor arcs and the ending. rewatching later c2 really emphasizes how many complaints hinged on extremely online & parasocial headspaces - you definitely wont hear anyone nowadays say liam is a biphobic cishet abusing matt by not making caleb kiss essek yet. i hope new fans have a better time than we did. oh - and get off twitter.

On 19 March 2010, the Young Veins played a set at the Dirty Dog Bar in Austin, Texas, as a part of South By Southwest (SXSW) film and music festival.

Several old friends of Ryan and Jon were also playing at SXSW that year. Jon reconnected with his former 504 Plan bandmate Tom Conrad (more info about it in this post). Travie McCoy and Patrick stump also both played at the Dirty Dog bar on the same night that the Young Veins did. According to this website, the lineup was:

9:00pm - The Young Veins 9:45pm - Travie McCoy and the Lazarus Project 10:15pm - New Politics (a Danish band that was signed to Decaydance) 11:00pm - Patrick Stump 01:00am - Hole

Both Travie and Patrick were newly solo artists in March 2010, as both Gym Class Heroes and Fall Out Boy went on hiatus the year before in 2009. This SXSW show was Patrick's first performance as a solo artist, where he debuted some new songs that would go on to be on his 2011 solo album Soul Punk.

Pete Wentz did not attend the show but posted an explanation on his blog several days later, explaining that he had wanted to see Patrick and the Young Veins but had feared his presence overshadowing his friends' music:

Sucks that I feel like i even have to address this, but i have had so many people hitting me up about that i will. people saying i left austin before patricks show or was there and just didnt go. first off: i was in a completely different part of texas the night before last san padre (sp?) djing a spring break party (spring break wooo!) and then i flew to dallas to meet my family and fly home. i was in austin at south by southwest a week ago and flew home the night after i hosted an event. even if i had been in austin i would not have gone to the crush showcase. why? not because i wouldnt want to see all the bands (young veins and patrick included). but because i think the media would have scrutinized me being there- like i was still trying to steal patricks spotlight, like i was trying to make it about me (theres a reason im not sending this through twitter- this is for the fans). while all the shit going on with fall out boy is hard for me. i completely support the other guys musical endeavors. we were friends before the band and we will be after. i think its ridiculous that the media keep trying to pit us against each other. i got the chance to watch the show on cruddy youtube quality video and it still looked and sounded great to me. im okay being made out to be the villain. maybe i am even the villain. but dont make it seem like i hate one of my best friends.

Thats not to mention the uncredited features. only SIX. the FINALE isnt even just him its him, and fucking 21 SAVAGE of all people. i am not here for another miserable 21 verse!! and hes on TWO SONGS IN THE ALBUM. same with the weekend!!! who is so unbearably dull he drags every song thats otherwise fine down to his level!!!! i cant even focus on the good parts of these songs because theyre so utterly cluttered with herbs that its miserable!!!! i love the beyonce fearure but frankly i dont need it!! yknow who else is on this fucking album?? DAVE CHAPELLE. FOR SOME GOD DAMN REASON. can’t even take the alhum seriously once i realized that. literally poisoned by the totaly fucking unnecessary presence of an utterly pathetic man who didnt need to be there. and this is just one example of an album thats utterly chock full of unnecessary and disappointing features but this shit is out of control. this is nonsense this is a mass scale zoo escape. get this damn baboons put of my lovely reptile house.

i hate how every guy in mystreet is obsessed with aphmau. like it pisses me off SO much. like okay. i get garroth, laurence, and aaron because you know THEY WERE HER LOVE INTERESTS IN MCD but dante??? travis???? brendan (for the literal slightest bit that he was here)??? three people who did not show any romantic interest her besides small (insignificant) crushes, that didnt go beyond playful flirtation and/or quick things that dont go deeper beyond surface level.

and i know mystreet was written in tandem with pdh but it doesnt make sense that they would include a wholesome friendship with travis and aphmau and then turn around and have them turn around to be strangers and travis flirting with her because he has an interest to her (but does... but does he actually??? or does he just like her because shes pretty like???)

thats why i like zanemau (as i will ramble abt in another post) so much because i was rooting so HARD for zane because he does flirt with her occasionally but its always backed up with a joke and he never showed any romantic interest for her. HE BECAME HER FRIEND FIRST. HE BECAME HER FRIEND FIRST. HE BECAME HER. FRIEND. FIRST.

and ofc im going to have the whole group genuinely become friends first but in mystreet it PISSES me off

and on top of that, they treat her like a prize to be won. which makes me mad because their mcd counterparts would. NEVER.

ive never talked about it here but all of the guys (excluding zane and vylad) took the biggest brunt of the character assassination tirade that jason (jason. not jess. jason. i have a firm belief that jason was a bigger contributor to mystreet than jess) went on to reduce all of the characters to cheap knockoffs and unfunny flat, static characters. while their mcd characterizations werent perfect, theyre LEAPS and BOUNDS better than their mystreet variations

and you want to know why? because they probably sat there and looked at the original version of mystreet (and mcd season 2) and said "damn, aaron is a fucking boring character" because he IS. compared to the vast majority of the characters in mystreet and mcd, aaron is largely uninteresting! in mystreet he has no real motivations. no drive, no friends, no job (that we hear about) and we never see aaron and aphmau hang out UNLESS its a scene where garroth and laurence over-fucking-react to aphmau having friends (oh god forbid the woman have male friends!) and sure he has the ultima thing going for him but we never even start hearing about that until mystreet season 3 (and pdh season 2)

and in mcd hes even worse! hes just some (probably musty) dude who came out of nowhere and saved aphmau from werewolves and has a vendetta against zane (surprise surprise, look around fucko! you arent alone, the entirety of rua'an has an axe to grind against the fucker!! get in fucking line!!). hes even LESS interesting than mcd aaron because he legit has NOTHING GOING FOR HIM. he never even made conversation with aphmau unless she was being a damsel or they were alone!!

you know doki doki literature club? when monika starts fucking around with the character files and pumped all of the girl's worst, most undesirable traits to max to make herself appear more likeable to the mc? i imagine that was jason's idea to make the boys look terrible and aaron look like a hero.

also side note: the fact that jason looks nothing like aaron weirds me the fuck out. like aphmau is obviously jess' self insert with similar hair, skin, and eye color but aaron looks nothing like jason aside the color of their fucking eyes. wack.

anyway thats it. sorry its taking me so long to update any of this, ive been trying to you know do this whole "self care" shit. its been working really well but ive been spending less time online as a result! but im working on my notes and im trying to figure out how i want to write this out! i dont have the time to write a comic book but i was thinking about writing and posting it on ao3!!! what do you think?

Why jerry (you know which one) is a legend

(MAJOR SPOLIERS CANT STRESS ENOUGH, LISTEN TO THIS MASTERPEICE OF A PODCAST BEFORE READING) JERK-OFF JERRY, thats his title given to him to many just a man others a friend but to most..... a pervert, to himself anyways. Now form that alone your thinking 'why is this man important' and thats where i come in to fuel your brain of this man and his acsent to legendhood. Jerry started in the podcast as a side chracter who was created for one purpose jerk off jokes. And for a long time he was just another member to eventually die to a bad roll of the death chart until, the wood arc. without getting into to many spoilers the wood arc is when everyone is stuck in the cursed woods.

Now in the wood arc we cut to some of the crew including. our boy Jerry, plyph (i know thats not how you spell it so he will be called soup boy), Carlos, and then it gets weird because the first time around bathroom berry and nodoze were with the sqaud but Nodoze ended up dozing and nowehere near the group and berry was mistaken for a martial arts guy (cant remember names TIRED). The squad goes through the forest trying to find the ship when our boy JERRY brings out a hand compass (in his hand) and leads the way.

When they get to the uhuru its over run but flora and fauna mostly snakes. Jerry comes in clutch again by (dies of laughter) well speacil skills with much practice. He eventually gets on the ship as well as the rest of the sqaud and helps people break free of their slumber. This my readers is where the legend dies, while saving someone his arm gets bitten by a snake his (sobs) jerking off arm then his other arm, then his legs.........then his crotch. He then falls out a porthole into the wood where he is put to rest in the dirt of where he stood. ashes to ashes, nuts to nuts.

The funerel is small as many didnt like JOJerry but those who were mounred his rightoues death with gifts to keep him occupied in the afterlife.

Now he doesnt seem thaaaat speacil but he is. You see Jhonny O'mara is a long member of campaign and player of the much beloved Travis Matago left that arc. Travis himself did not die but Jhonny voiced you guessed it JOJerry. Jerrys death was the death of Jhonny leaving the podcast (whether he likes it or not) and theres nothing that can change my mind. Our Jerry gave us another reason to let go of Travis and Jhonny for his chracter death did happen, in Jerry.

BUT THATS NOT ALL, The uhuru's crew is free no matter what their idea of freedom is they have it or captian orimar vale helps them find their freedom. JOJerry had freedom to do what he loved wherever he wanted where in other places it would be deemed well inapporite. Just has Nodoze has freedom to rope and travel, as Gable has freedom of no job and getting to have a family, as Dref had the freedom to experiment, as wendyell has freedom to get married (OOF) and pillage, Jerk off jerry was just as free as them and was a head on repersantation of that freedom of whatever freedom is.

JOJerry helped us understand the crew and let go and for that he will be remebered. TAKE FLIGHT JERRY.

(This is all a big meme btw i dont support this behavior or what he did at all but he is a good example of the morals of the uhuru just MUCH more perverted than what it really is)

omgggg i’m so glad you like it!! i think they may have gotten a few new viewers for including the bananas backpack which is So funny and amazing to me. anyways! i’m gonna rank them keeping in mind both their teenage selves and the adult selves

1. misty <3 she’s just my babygirl. both teenage and adult misty are, imo, the most interesting and compelling character in the show and i am literally never bored when she’s on screen. i genuinely think her smashing the black box was one of the best tv moments i’ve seen in years

2. lottie!! again she is just So fascinating to me and i always want to know more about her. i think teenage lottie esp is sooo nuanced and complex like. it would’ve been so easy for the writers to make fall into that archetype of like a Malicious Cult Leader who hungers for power or whatever but it’s so obvious that she’s still unsure of her role and she second guesses herself and doesn’t feel comfortable being worshipped… love her

3. nat!! first of all i think sophie thatcher is probably the most talented actress on the entire show period like she just Kills me with her performances omfg when she’s talking to jackie’s bones…. GOD and i feel so much empathy for her as a teenager and the fact that she’s literally the only one doing fucking anything and i really wish so much of her adult storyline wasn’t centered around travis

4. van!! i love characters who are unkillable. steve harrington type beat. i’m also very intrigued by her allegiance to lottie this season and i think it’s (again) a very smart subversive choice to have van be a believer like idk i didn’t expect it for her character! also adult van running a video rental store…. stuck in the 90s perpetually…. recommending landmark gay cinema to young lesbians …… so meaningful to me

5. shauna okay it’s kinda crazy that shauna is this low because i Love adult shauna she’s one of my favorite characters but i think honestly a lot of that is just. melanie lynskey. at the end of the day while i do really like shauna’s whole deal of yearning to go back to the woods, i’m not super compelled by her teenage storyline and i enjoyed that shauna/jackie stuff for a moment there when she ate her but now i’m bored with it again 😭

6. taissa ONLY because i feel like the writers are just going in circles with her plotline. i feel like we aren’t getting Anywhere with the sleepwalking and the visions like it’s been going on for two seasons now with literally no end in sight and as much as i enjoy tai’s personality and her rationality there’s only so many scenes of her sleepwalking and then waking up and getting scared that i can watch before wanting something new :/

7. jackie sorry i was never super fascinated by her and i didn’t feel much sympathy when everyone pointed out how she doesn’t help. like. SHE DIDNT so idk her death was obviously a very monumental moment in the show and her … consumption was sooo well executed but that’s not really Her yk

the opening sequence caught me fully off guard and i like it so much. pair it with the dramatic irony of them yelling at barry towards the end. juicy stuff. love it so much

my favourite running joke with lucretia is her introcard always having some veiled reference to The Events. one of her proficiencies being 'remembering the dead' certainly holds true

the ren and taako scene. i feel no need to elaborate

speaking of that though, the opening to magic lessons starts a running motif of taako being actively bad at fire evocation, despite telling everyone that he remembers being very good at it. i wonder if he had someone close who would do that for him instead

i like that taako actively cares abt the others' wellbeing, up to and including waiting for them to join conversations, etc. its noticeable that he pauses and waits for everyone to respond before he continues. he cares ok

the lucretia monologue from merle's lunar interlude is, in my opinion, as an expert on Lucretia Moments (tm), one of the most fucked up things she ever says. and seeing it in the comic definitely made me feel a type of way. i love you lucretia. i want to shake you around so bad

correct me if im wrong but lucretia and merle laughing is the first time lucy's ever gotten silly in the comic right? they tend to cut her jokes in favour of playing her more seriously but it was so sweet and refreshing to see her being so comfortable. makes me so excited for the stolen century comic

extremely mad that the "shoulda leaned away" "I LEANED AWAY" joke was lost. but not as devastated as losing the skeleton DnD debate. they cut all of the best travis moments from the arc

changing their death count from like, 8? to well over a hundred was an interesting choice. i think it works well to convey the narrative stakes a little better since they cut the old-june interludes.

i dont know if this was intentional but starting the last loop on chapter 111, which is the exact amount of years that the stolen century and lonely decade span, made me insane. this may be just an innocuous choice though. who knows

losing redmond and luca makes sense definitely and i love more ren screentime but man the running bit of griffin attempting to foreshadow lup over and over again and noone ever getting it is so dear to me. edward and lydia are definitely a better set for that though. rip skeleton man

ive been made aware that i have strong opinions on my personal ranking of percy jackson characters so im making a post about it. bc thats what we do here on tungle.hell. experiencing brain worms? spread the word. @garecc i invite you to include your own brain worms here

for those who may not know, which i expect is most of my followers here, Travis (garecc) and i go way back to the days of a trials of apollo discord server that has since crumbled under the weight of various discourse and does not exist at this time. so if anyone understands pjo brain rot, its him.

ONTO THE RANKING. ill be focusing on main characters bc if i include side characters we'll be here all day and Sally Jackson would be every character in this top 5.

1. Hazel Levesque. Deserves better in the eyes of fandom. Gained pretty good control over the mist within one book. Has a cool magic horse. Similar tragic backstory to Nico, but not sulking about it. No shame in sulking, but its cool to see someone go through bad shit and come out still feeling mostly okay.

2. Will Solace. Unfortunately for me, I haven't finished the trials of apollo series yet, so i dont know THAT much about Will as he's primarily a background character. Nico di Angelo. obviously a fan favorite, but im talking canon Nico here. im not talking about an uwu soft emo boi. im talkin about a sarcastic, pessimistic, deeply insecure little dude. listen, im not gonna talk about the things i love about nico because its been said a million times. its nothing new. im just gonna say that i love reading about characters that go through awful awful trauma and still overcome and find joy on the other side.

5. Rachel Elizabeth Dare. so my impulse is to put Leo here bc i adored him when i first read HoO. and if i didnt really think about it, i wouldve put him. but... Rachel!! how can you not love her! a mortal lady who can see through the mist, she fought with a hairbrush, she's the liveliest and loveliest oracle of delphi camp halfblood has ever and will ever know, she’s from money and hates it, she's an activist, an artist, way more helpful than the last oracle for sure. the mummy in the attic just left you to fend for yourself, Rachel will at least try to help you interpret what a prophecy means. she's blunt and talks a mile a minute, i love seeing my "flaws" represented positively in media.

honorable mentions: Leo Valdez of course, easily my number 6 spot. Apollo/Lester, we love seeing immense character development. Grover Underwood, probably the first time i ever had a definitive favorite character. Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase, romance would be dead and we wouldnt have a series without them.

so first off i didnt play with the death rewind on cause i wanted to really stew in my regret

so first i got nick infected and killed, shot by laura cause i didnt know it was fucking him and later was like WAIT....... THAT WAS NICK???

then i got kaitlyn killed which is what REALLY annoyed me cause i somehow failed a dont breathe section and she got her throat ripped out

and THEN i didnt shoot silas as laura because i felt bad hearing eliza cry for "my boy" and then HE FUCKING DECAPITATED LAURA, RYAN, AND TRAVIS

so yeah, thats my body count (not including any of the hacketts cause like....... i cant even remember whomst i killed there ghjk)

Oh god there are a thousand of them. I actually have two different versions of the sequel that I'm workshopping with Mack to potentially combine, but yeah there's a lot. There's a version of this fic that ends in Stoncy, there's a version of this fic that includes robin and one that doesn't, there's a version w HSM references.....My outlines are really just like giant mood boards with a shit ton of time lines, and then I choose which one I like best as I get to those story beats LMAO

I'm a serial music listener. I literally listen to music every moment of every day. But while I was writing the last chapter I listened to 'I wouldn't remember me either' from the Stranger Things Soundtrack and 'Romeo and Juliet' by Peter McPoland.

Should I make a playlist to go along w this fic? It would be inch resting wouldn't it? I do have specific reccs for certain scenes (There's a Wayne and Eddie scene coming up that I think 'Danger of Hell' from the Green Mile soundtrack would fit PERFECTLY)

As for what I think you guys should listen to hmmmmmmm well for the last chapter I think 'Carrying' by Jukebox the Ghost might be a good one or 'Sing' by Travis

Thank you for your answer to the qu about indio/rdj! It was really nice reading a more positive explanation, honestly. I think the reason it stands out is because its not an isolated incident, like if you read interviews from 2012 onwards, you’ll notice he starts using the singular term ‘kid’ eventho he has 2 and indio was only 18 so its very confusing and thats the case in majority of articles. Also like I said those freudian slips infront of the camera where he’s literally forgotten about his existance and realised and then had to backtrack and correct himself? Not a good look tbh. That being said I dont think he does it maliciously? He just needs to think more because he does it A LOT and i know other people have noticed and commented on it too. I mean the 2014 birthday post thing was just straight up not good and he’s a very emotionally intelligent man so that was definitely a choice. With the dolittle award speech, it was for kca, I would agree w you but the way he specifically said susans name and then exton and avri with little sentences for each is what made it odd. Not to mention he’s never mentioned indio in any of his award speeches and yeah he’s older now but rdj has won numerous awards since he was born but now he’s always mentioning his new kids? Like why such a drastic difference you know? There’s just too many instances so I dont think its the biggest reach but we dont know what their real life is like. hmm okay. honestly, i really won’t be giving this much more thought because at the end of the day, it’s really not our business and like i said before, we don’t know what their relationship is and we can’t judge it just from the few social posts and publicly accessible video clips that are available.

it wouldn’t do anyone any good to overanalyze this. i’m generally a glass half full kind of person and i don’t think indio is being overlooked by his parents. robert was extremely supportive of him throughout his trial. he supports his son’s music career which is obviously one of the most important things in indio’s life right now. jimmy (rip angel), who was robert’s right hand man and was basically with him almost every day, was extremely close to indio. davy and travis, who also work closely with robert, also know indio well and interact with him regularly on socials. i just don’t think, if robert and indio had a poor relationship, that his inner circle would be close to indio. but they are, and their obvious connection is robert. for me, by all accounts, i believe he’s being as good a father as he can be for indio.

again, there is a lot we don’t know and we can’t just assume one thing or another just because we get a glimpse into 2% of their lives. we don’t know them personally. we don’t know their family dynamics. we can’t just project and fill in the gaps (and there are a lot of gaps here) when we don’t have all the information, nor is it any of our business, to be honest.

i have like 10000000000000000 different aus but i will choose one of them to talk about rn. one i dont think ive talked about much on tumblr?? ive talked about it a LOT in the aphverse server im in so shout out to yall for putting up with me /j

this au is also probably the au that made me extremely obsessed with vylad. not my fault hes just so fucking attractive 😔

so anyways. dante and gene both get kidnapped by a "medical research" company (which is a front for like. human experimentation). later they find out that garte is the ceo of that company and bc hes friends with dante and gene's dad (shittiest dads in the world gotta stick together /j) their dad basically just handed them over to be experimented on

so anyways they have wings now!! dante has black wings and gene has white wings. also the experiments messed with the colors of their hair. here is a very quick sketch of what they look like now

dante is 22-ish and gene is 24-ish whenever they escape the lab (they were both there for 4 years). vylad is the one who helps them escape (however dante ends up getting separated from them and runs off. dw hes fine he finds travis, garroth, and laurance)

uh... i should probably explain the setting. and then we will talk about my bbg vylad 😁

so this takes place in the future obviously. its a dystopian future where uhhh basically a while (30-40 years) ago a bunch of countries went to war and completely destroyed most of the landscape of the world and killed off a LOT of the population and now the world is sorta trying to rebuild itself back up. the place where the story mainly takes place is o'khasis city, which garte is the governor of. its one of the (relatively) safest places for many many miles, and traveling across whats basically a desert filled with random people out there doing anything to survive is dangerous.

ur also just not allowed to leave the city without permission (and u have to have a very good reason to leave). this is for a lot of reasons including how dangerous is outside and also bc they want everyone to stay there so they have enough people to keep everything running smoothly

anyways. vylad. hes got a lot of lore. oh god

so first of all. vylad, zane, and garroth all have the very unfortunate luck of being the kids of garte. when gartes kids were 5, 6, and 7 respectively, he began working on a mind control drug that would basically make anyone who took it do whatever he said. at first, it didnt work super well, and he spent many years getting his scientists to perfect it. before he could fully perfect it, vylad ran away when they were 11, so they were never fully under mind control. zane and garroth, however, were put under full mind control and have been ever since (you do have to keep taking the drug about once every 24 hours or the effects will start to wear off, but garte can just tell them "take one of these a day" and theyll have to).

vylad knows about what garte is doing but doesnt have any evidence, and the side effects of the drug mean that his brain just sorta fucks itself over (giving him headaches, making his limbs not move properly, causing him to black out) whenever garte tells him to do anything (this is because the drug was very much a prototype and it permanently fucked up his brain)

when vylad ran away, about five days after he escaped he sorta just passed out in an alleyway on the edge of town. that happened to be the alleyway that sasha, gene, and zenix were currently staying in - sasha manages to convince gene and zenix to Maybe Not Kill This Random Kid and vylad wakes up after like 18 hours and is like "what thje fuck happended"

anyways, sasha, gene, zenix, and vylad quickly become a team, although vylad is the only one who goes and sneaks out of town randomly every few days (hes going to garte's company's lab to see if theyve created a cure for the mind control drug, because theyre trying to create a cure as a backup just in case anything goes wrong)

gene is technically not a runaway, they still mostly live at home with dante and maria. their dad isnt really in their life at all, until he randomly shows up when theyre like 20 and suddenly dante and gene mysteriously disappear a couple days later

vylad immediately knows what happened, but unfortunately the section of the lab where he knows theyre keeping gene and dante is super high security. if he gets caught, theres literally no hope for anyone because garte will just put him under the mind control drug forever. so it takes four entire years for him to rescue gene and dante

thankfully, garte didnt have them put the two under the mind control drug, since he needs all of it for zane and garroth. which makes vylad's job a little easier lol

oh yeah also remember when i said that dante gets found by travis, garroth, and laurance? yeah. garroth is 100% under mind control (which does give you bright green, glowing eyes, but he hides that with contacts) and is being forced by garte to spy on his friends. and whenever she, travis, and laurance find dante, she reports back to garte that one of the escaped experiments has been found, and so garte tells him to go find gene as well.

i need to actually write this bc this is something i actually wanna write instead of just rotate around in my brain forever HDFHDGGHDGHDF so im not gonna tell u all the plot. L for u ig /j

oh also vylad and zenix are very good friends. the best of friends. just guys being dudes. a couple of pals. just some buddies who send each other romantic letters when theyre apart and also kiss each other. just super close friends :)
