G-d it's really 3 different times that mulder has almost certainly had to launch protracted 'getting scully to eat' campaigns, after her abduction when she was 'maintained' who knows how for 3 months and had to get back on her feet, with the cancer and treatments and recovery 2 years later and again with the gut shot 2 years after that. How many times do you think he sat by her bed and tried to distract her while she struggled through a protein drink? Did the 'oh I just accidentally made too many sandwiches or pieces of toast or they put in extra fries or "free" dumplings maybe you'll take these off my hands' or planted them in a diner until she ate some soup and crackers or a plate of scrambled eggs or a milkshake while trying not to seem to insist too much, ie enough to trigger an "I'm fine" and a stalking off. No wonder he's hung up on the non-fat yogurt cups and salads with a teaspoon of dressing after multiple times of joining in to will her back from half starvation in order to get her strong enough to recover from near death experiences. Like, we have done this when it was unavoidable due to miserable circumstances, why are you doing it yourself on purpose?? 😥
Though perhaps that's a reason for her, the familiarity of completely utilitarian food that's always 'safe.'

I really wish there was more interest in how to handle ADHD other than just addressing the symptoms that affect the people around us.
Like, the best pharmaceutical treatment we have right now is stimulants, and I agree that being on stimulants 24 hours a day, 365 days a year is probably not good for your body. Hell, I’m on a less-than-ideal dose of my medication from a concentration perspective because the ideal dose had my resting heart rate sitting at a cool 115BPM. I know taking med holidays is important. I know all of this.
But because ADHD isn’t just an attention problem (or may not actually be an attention problem at all at its core), it sucks that the only time period medical professionals seem to be concerned about treating are the “important” times: the length of a school or workday. Forget the fact that ADHD affects executive function, forget the fact that people with ADHD often experience chronic and unending anxiety and/or depression as a result of the ADHD, forget that there are important times that have nothing to do with an 8-hour school or work day, forget the rejection sensitivity dysphoria, the sensory issues that make things like clothing, food, and group situations a nightmare to try to navigate, the household stuff that has to be taken care of outside of the 8-hour school or work day. It feels like none of that matters because it doesn’t affect a group of fifteen or more people.
On top of ADHD, I have been plagued with anxiety-related issues for the majority of my life. I likely have a form of OCD and I have a history with a restrictive eating disorder; both of those conditions are very closely associated with high levels of anxiety. I’ve been on anxiety medications before. I was first given an as-needed medication that took the edge off but also made everything feel a little fuzzy, like there was a pane of glass between me and the rest of the world; I was put on an SSRI that somehow made my OCD-related intrusive thoughts about 50x worse than usual and had me wondering at one point if I should be hospitalized; and I’m currently on buspirone, which is doing what it’s supposed to do without the side effects of the others thankfully. But nothing, and I mean nothing, has reduced my anxiety as much as my ADHD medication.
Two hours after my first stimulant dosage, I just suddenly didn’t feel on-edge any more. I estimate that being on ADHD medication has reduced my anxiety by about 70% (buspirone’s for the other 30%). I started taking it in the summer of 2020 and I remember, in 2021, when I saw my boss in person for the first time since lockdown, he remarked on how much more confident I seemed, how I was more likely to speak up in meetings, etc. And I was like…yeah, man, it’s a wonder what not feeling anxious every second of every day will do for someone.
ADHD affects so much more of my life than just attention and anxiety, too. I have sensory issues with mine, which is pretty common, and they make eating — an already sometimes-complicated task due to the ED history — difficult at times because, while I can eat foods that I don’t particularly like, if something is what I call “the bad texture”, I will gag no matter how hard I work to overcome it (believe me, I’ve tried). And my brain sometimes decides that foods that were previously fine are now “the bad texture” and they may or may not shift back to being okay eventually; I don’t know.
The sensory issues affect me socially. My therapist and I have recently come to the conclusion that I’m probably not actually an introvert, but if I’m around larger groups, that means noise and movement and probably being touched, and too much of that causes my brain to either freak out or shut down. I used to always say, “I love people, but when I’m done, I’m done.” And that was likely because the overstimulation was building and building in the background, and at a certain point, my brain would just be like, “We gotta get outta here.” I was Queen of Irish Goodbyes for a very long time because of this.
And the executive dysfunction affects…well..everything? Not just work, not just school (but also those because if my environment is chaotic, my brain feels chaotic, and it is difficult to maintain a non-chaotic environment if you keep getting stuck on order of operations when picking up a room).
I’m not saying that I want to be on longer-lasting stimulants or that I want to be on the higher dose that I know helps my concentration more, cardiovascular system by damned. What I’m saying is, I wish treatment research had been more holistic rather than just figuring out what would give teachers and managers an easier time despite what the person with ADHD might be dealing with as soon as their meds wear off.
Maybe current research is working on it; I don’t know. I just know that, the older I get, the more frustrated I am with my brain and the more apparent the deficiencies I used to be able to counteract with pre-chronic-illness energy and crushing perfectionism become, and I wish there was an answer to this that actually helped me most of the time rather than forcing me to pick which parts of my day/week is “important” and making sure I’m medicated for those parts.

Yknow, this is likely a result of having worked too long in a Pediatric Feeding Disorders Unit, and being someone who also has both a history of extreme food selectivity (thankfully grown/ trained out of) and who struggles with dysphagia/aspiration and dysmotility (from the esophagus through the colon) but I truly think Seven of Nine would have a much more difficult time adjusting to actually eating food???
Like I worked with kids who were G-Tube and occasionally nasogastric and nasojejunal tube dependent. It isn’t easy. It’s doable, there are protocols, but ??? There’s a fair amount of discomfort involved.
Like, it takes intensive occupational therapy to develop the motor skills to chew, manipulate food within your mouth, etc…you need to ensure they can swallow safely and effectively (even if they “seem fine,” silent aspiration and fatigue can be dangerous).
Then you get into trying new foods… there’s a lot of sensory stuff!! Obviously Seven is an adult, so she likely won’t demonstrate the same overwhelming neophobia that the 2-8 year olds I worked with would have! But I imagine she would probably be picky initially (especially with Neelix’s concoctions, which most of the crew found often unpalatable due to being unusual).
And as most of us with gastrointestinal issues know, that is also no picnic (hah). She likely wouldn’t have the enzymes she once had, and I’m willing to bet her microbiome was pretty starved. Probably they have a hypo for that, but it’s still an issue…
Obvious disclaimer, it is a fairly niche thing to think about (and not pretty), this is television, entertainment, and sci-fi, so maybe they can magically make it as if she was eating her whole life…
But it’s still something that I cannot stop thinking about.

Hey! Hope you’re doing well and don’t mean to bug you, since I noticed that the post I’m referencing has replies off. But I saw your post about sensory link which mentioned ARFID. I had never heard of this before but it sounds a lot like my son. He’s 4 years old, and really hasn’t got his words together at all yet… but I have a place to start, next time my son’s doc waves me away with “a kid won’t starve themselves it’s fine”. A developmentally delayed kid with strong history of adhd in the family I’m less sure about, but gotten no where. I don’t know if/to what degree sensory issues are likely to play a role, but now that I know about it I can try to find out more. You might have just made a difference in my little boys life, and mine, so I just wanted to say thank you for that. Also, you don’t have to respond if you aren’t up for it but if you are I have a question I was hoping to ask. Are there any particular things that tend to make mealtime a better experience for you? Obviously it’s bound to be a highly individual thing, but I’m hoping to get some ideas to start out with and see if it seems to make things a bit nicer.
hey! I’m so glad to have been able to introduce you to a disorder that might be able to explain your son’s experiences, and I hope that you’re able to get support that works for both you and him
in terms of my mealtime preferences…
making it as casual an experience as possible. it’s harder to eat when I feel like everyone is pressuring me to eat
similarly, my family have always talked around the dinner table, and this helps! my parents would talk about their days, and it would kind of take the focus off the food
only having one meh food on my plate at a time, and only when it’s in the context of something I already know I like
when I was a kid, my mum sat me down and got me to write out every food that I liked to eat, and we used that as a springboard
having a really solid mealtime routine — eating at a similar time each day, sitting in the same chair, drinking some water or juice before the food comes, etc
I think that’s kind of it. I hope some of that helps you and your son, and that mealtimes get easier for you both over time

wait so fellow adhder I'm I think that actually all of the TFW are actually ND. Cas has autism, dean has adhd, and hear me out, Sam has ocd. the intrusive thoughts? obsessive behavior? eating and acting clean literally to a point where it is inconvenient for everyone involved? I think he is obsessing over being clean and fresh (compared to demon blood and souless Sam, sleazy and nasty Sam) also I have a few reasons for thinking dean us adhd but y do u think so sorry I'm rambling
let’i’ve been waiting all my life for you to come into my inbox and talk to me about this
of COURSE TFW are ND!!! of course!! and yes, yes, we all know Cas has autism I love my autistic angel and i love the hc that Sam has ocd because it does fit really well!
(sectioned all of this out because it’s better for adhders to read, you get it)
his ocd directly bleeds into his poor self-esteem like you said with the demon blood! he feels the need to be pure and even though he canonically knows that these things (like eating clean, running, etc) can’t help his problem, he still tries because he kind of... has to.
also OCD is often connected to a need for control, and the physical state of sam’s body is the one thing he has control over (which is also where we get into eating disorder territory). Sam has had so little control over his life, especially growing up, and for most his childhood, he didn’t even control what he ate (with Dean making/buying his meals). SO once he gets out of that environment, he hyperfixates on this new freedom!
we can also go to the hand pressing with this. a literal compulsion that even after the effect of the pain wears off once the hand heals, he still does it as a grounding method. nonsensical compulsion to calm anxiety? yes OCD
can also be linked to childhood trauma but what ND can’t be amirite
emotional regulation once again - remember Angry Boy King Sammy? So angry he doesn’t know what to do and can’t control it and feels like he’s gonna explode with the rage?
intrusive (sometimes violent) thoughts are a huge marker for OCD and Sam’s obviously sometimes come from Unnatural means but they are also a part of him and kind of always have been
religious themes are also huge in OCD which Fits and makes me EMOTIONAL Sam I’m so sorry he spent his whole childhood feeling unclean and unholy and Fixated on that to the point of praying to a God his family didn’t believe in just so he could be Clean fuck
also i think it’s really interesting and cool that of the two brothers, Sam shows the most obvious signs of OCD even though he is canonically the messier brother and the brother not worried about IRL germs (i know the writers didn’t try to do this but i don’t care they didn’t play into the OCD means i must germex! trope)
AND ADHD DEAN!!!
let’s first look at the obvious: Dean is highly skilled in combat, even though he hates physical exercise. Why? ADHD brain tied up with anxiety is hardwired into flight or fight, not sit and focus on one thing. it’s constantly picking up on threats and peripheral vision and all that shit
he also has a spotty history with books! like i’ve said before, not shit writing, this is Dean’s ADHD. Dean as a kid read some high-brow books and he still does occasionally but he doesn’t nearly as much as an adult because it became much harder!! and because he just couldn’t devote that much attention, even as a kid, to things that he wasn’t really interested in! This is why he hates research
he’s known far and wide for his impulsiveness, his knee jerk decisions. it’s part of what makes him a good hunter and part of what makes him human disorder incarnate - It’s ADHD
Low frustration tolerance and rejection-sensitive dysphoria! Dean has a really hard time regulating his emotions and especially anger - especially especially especially when he feels like he’s being rejected or abandoned. it’s literally his worst fear
^^^^ rejection-sensitive dysphoria also plays into his low self-esteem (god poor kid to have RSD in an environment growing up where Everyone Was Constantly Busting Each Other’s Balls and couldn’t be emotionally available to also tell you they actually love you), high self standards, and social anxiety (he’s a bullshitter, his chameleon charm is also a symptom of his social anxiety and RSD)
also Dean has lots of sleep problems both ways and complicated relationships with motivation and inner restlessness versus a yearning for stability
comfort items / food!! now i can’t find the research on this so forgive me because i know i’ve read it somewhere that ADHDers tend to gravitate toward familiar things or foods! (like Dean’s burgers and his car / motels that are all basically the same) it is a very ND thing in general as well
along that line, ADHDers tend to have sensory processing issues - it’s why Dean has an Outfit Recipe of the same types of clothes that he sticks to - also why he delights so much in sensory stuff like magic fingers and the Dead Guy Robe
(((jfc i thought of this point while writing out the last one and then forgot it and had to stare at the screen for a minute, now I’ve forgotten it again while writing this thank you adhd))) AH YES! auditory processing! Remember how we make fun of Dean for his lame comebacks? Remember how we make fun of him for his buffer speed in The Scene? baby that’s because it takes him five extra seconds to translate those words let alone RESPOND
not to mention people with ADHD often have much higher rates of anxiety/depression (duh) and substance abuse (yes)
lmao in researching this the article I was looking at says that lead exposure as a child can lead to ADHD and jfc you KNOW those shitty motels had Exclusively Lead Paint smh
BUT ONE OF MY FAVORITES of course has to be that Dean gets along so well with autistic Cas!! as an adhd dude with an autistic best friend, WE DIG! adhd and autism go so well together because we can get each other in ways that others just Can’t. adhd and autism have a lot of overlap/similarities in brain function and shit.
tend to eschew social conventions and be much more straightforward/want that in others
they can both have the tendency to fidget and depending on upbringing mask that for some people - which also leads to being social chameleons
they both have comfort items / foods that NT find really strange or childish in my experience
sensory disorders!!! cas with his ONE OUTFIT and Dean with his different colored ONE OUTFIT
Anyway i’m in love with this and i have so many thoughts but here are a few of them thank you very much for this ask i love that you came to me

Hi! Wondering if I can take you up on the offer in that dysautonomia post.
I’ve been feeling randomly more tired than it feels like I should, but I think it’s not general deconditioning? Showers can wipe me out for a few hours and a shower chair is helpful - but I can walk for miles and afaict even a 5 mile hike drained my mental energy before obvious physical exhaustion (noticeably worse executive function and sensory/emotional tolerance but only normal muscle fatigue). Medically, been trying to sort out high hgb/hct that isn’t going down that much with T dose, and also night sweats at least a few times a week, and also I can be lying down to nap with my heart rate over 100 and it only comes down slowly. Can’t freaking tell what’s ptsd triggers, what’s other stress/anxiety, what’s maybe autistic burnout/sensory management taking much more energy than I expect, what’s needing to eat more consistently, what might be sleep issues, what’s effects of hormone levels, or what might be something else. I’m waiting for a sleep study to try to rule out sleep issues. I would really appreciate any pointers if any of this sounds like it might point a particular direction or if other tests might be useful.
Sadly that could be a lot of things, and I definitely think a sleep study is a good way to start. Making sure to manage your food and water intake, fixing your sleep schedule, taking care to be kind to yourself during episodes, those are a good place to start. No, I'm not saying that that will completely fix your problems, but any doctor that knows about POTS that does end up diagnosing you [if you have it] will tell you to do these things anyway. This is why I have been slowly attempting to unfuck my life.
If all of these things don't seem to be helping and the sleep study reveals nothing, the next thing I'd do is buy a cheap blood pressure monitor and see if you can have an actual record of your heart rate and blood pressure before, during, and after these episodes if possible. Something that records the output, or take a photo of the readings so you can show them to your doctor. Personally being a child of diabetics I also recommend buying a cheap glucose test kit to see if your sugar levels are doing anything funky during these times as well. Try to keep a journal of time of day, what you were doing just prior, and the readings you're acquiring to see if someone can point out a pattern.
A really easy way to see if there's a cause for pushing for specific testing is to go from seated to standing at your usual pace. If you are an otherwise healthy person and your heart rate jumps more than 30 bpm there is a pretty good indication that something interesting is happening inside of you that shouldn't be. If you also notice a big spike or drop in your blood pressure when initially standing or after standing still for a long period, that's another clue.
If you unfuck these areas of your life AND are getting concerning readings with little to no improvement on symptoms, it's time to look deeper. Most cardiologists will do a 24hr holtor, an EKG, a tilt table test, and/or a stress test, though the tilt table test is the one that really tends to seal the deal. However with some of your symptoms, I would honestly not be surprised to hear your doctors wanting the sleep study and probably an EEG to rule out things like sleep disorders or epilepsy as there can be some overlap.
It does take the average patient 8 years for a diagnosis- it took me less the first time around because of my family history, but the second time around took more like a year and a half due to comorbidities and I literally almost died. A friend of mine got really jerked around by her doctors for close to 6 months before someone was willing to run a tilt table test and almost instantly diagnosed her the second she fainted during the test. Another friend was told she was being a ridiculous germaphobe while her doctor ordered the test despite having a known dx of something commonly associated with POTS and again she was still diagnosed almost instantly during her tilt table. A third friend keeps getting 'hmm maybe' 'no' 'totally healthyl 'yes?' 'okay well that's weird' when he asks for a tilt table and they refused to give it to him despite picking up arrhythmias during his holtor and EKG- it's been a year and he's still arguing with the doctors to get a tilt table. Unfortunately many doctors simply aren't trained in autonomic disorders or in autoimmune disorders, and POTS is both. It can be very difficult to find someone willing to listen to you.
If you do all of these things and land on 🤷‍♂️, a lot of times it's things like fibro or MS, and the knowledge gained from these tests will help find a diagnosis of whatever-it-is affecting you.

Housemates - 5
View the pictures and learn about the sticker promotion here. Plus LOTS of other great stuff.
Vinny was arguably too young for him. Derick had become a werewolf in the early days of punk. He had been working at a bar and there was an accident. Now it was more than 50 years later and he was still at the same bar, or at least the same location.
He owned it now. No one knew that. He had a manager handling almost everything. He was still on the floor as a bartender and kept a really close eye on the books.
A big part of the attraction from renting from Bazur was that he wasn’t the oldest person in the building. Eventually, it would be him and the living statue after everyone else had passed on. At least the bar kept him young and current. He didn’t really get on with the local packs. They were too old fashioned around a few things he felt strongly about. He could see the attraction to having a family who wasn’t going to die on you. But there were some things he couldn’t be bothered to put up with.
Vinny was cute, but she also had zero bullshit tolerance. It gave them a lot in common. Derick nearly choked when he was listening to The Clash version of “I Fought the Law,” and she came in and asked if it was a remake of that old Green Day song. He appreciated most of the music she listened to. And it was one more vote against letting Tristan play country on the stereo.
After the first week of figuring out schedules, they started running together every morning. That was nice. It meant that he stopped getting reported as a stray and she didn’t have to worry about assholes commenting on her running pants. And, damn, her ass really did look good in those tights.
From morning runs it didn’t take long to ease into breakfasts together. Derick always cooked eggs. Vinny generally had cereal with added fruit or yogurt with added nuts. He started making her an egg, then two and talking about getting more protein in. She started out just humouring him before admitting that she wasn’t as hungry by coffee break any more.
The way he saw it, it was on him, Kogan and Bazur to help her settle in. Thea was useless around her. No one trusted Kevin to be alone with her. Dren was just too damn busy. Tristan would accidentally sprinkle double entendres into the conversation, then be mortified when he realized what he had said. Even if what he said was so obscure that she likely didn’t get the reference.
And Derick was fine with that. Tristan really was, as far as he was concerned, the competition. Nether Kogan nor Bazur was going to make the first move and Vinny wasn’t about to throw herself at them. Derick, meanwhile had long term goals with this arrangement and having Tristan get there first was not part of them.
Wednesday at dinner he opened with, “Hey, Vinny? We used to have movie night on Thursdays. Dinner in front of the TV. Think you could stick around and join us for that?”
She blinked, clearly taken aback. “Um… OK. Something that can be eaten on the couch then?”
“Or we could order take away so you can have a night off.”
She looked a little confused. “I thought the point of having me here was so that you didn’t have to eat take ways all the time.”
Kogan rumbled at that, “One night a week isn’t all the time. ‘Sides, it will make it easier on you when you head back to school. I promised your mom that we wouldn’t let your grades slip.”
Derick mentally rolled his eyes.
“Yeah, ok,” Vinny agreed. “What movie?”
“We take turns picking,” Bazur explained. “Is there something you want to see?”
Vinny shook her head, “I’m not going first.”
Dren cleared his throat, “Don’t go giving away my turn just so you don’t have to watch The Life of Pi.”
Vinny blinked. “What?”
Dren shrugged and went back to slowly absorbing his food, “Bazur doesn’t always like my picks, but if I can put up with his period dramas, he can put up with-”
“Pride and Prejudice and Zombies doesn’t count as a period drama!” Bazur protested.
Tristan snorted, “I agree to disagree.”
“What kind of movies do you like?” Vinny asked.
Everyone started to laugh.
“What?” she demanded.
Kogan cleared his throat, “He likes chick flicks.”
“Romance,” Tristan corrected. “Nicholas Sparks style of thing.”
“Huh,” Vinny said, sound slightly baffled.
Derick watched Tristan brace for the comment about romance not really pairing with his rodeo back ground. It never came. It took a moment for the minotaur to wind down.
“Any way,” Vinny continued oblivious, as she got up and took her plate to the sink, “I have to rush to make it to work on time. Skipping cooking tomorrow, got it.” She finished scrubbing her dish and put it in the drainer. Then dried her hands on the towel. “Supper tonight is Boeuf Bourguignon,” she pulled a crock out of the new fridge and set it on the counter before digging out the slow cooker base, “It just needs to stay on low and it will be ready to go at six. I’m baking buns to go with it. See you at five!”
And with that she picked up her purse, walked out the front door and promptly missed her bus. Kogan laughed and picked up his spare helmet off the hall tree.  “Let me,” Derick requested, “I’ll drive her.”
Korgan shrugged, and tossed the helmet to the werewolf. “Watch the speed limit. The rest of traffic doesn’t have your reaction times,” Kogan warned. “And neither does your passenger,” he added.
“Got it.” Derick opened the door just as Vinny got back to the house. “Come on. I’ll give you a ride.”
Vinny smiled up at him, “Thanks!”
Yeah. That was worth it.
——
Derrick saved Vinny a spot on the couch. Next to him. Kevin was currently an egg chair.  The pizza was great, the movie was eventually not bad, in the meantime Vinny settled in against him. She was warm and soft and she smelled good. She was comfortable here.
That was surprising.  It had taken so little time. They were monsters. However much humans preached inclusiveness, it hadn’t been achieved yet. They barely tolerated each other. Monsters, non humans, others were only as tolerated as they were useful. Driders worked in construction, gelatinous were frequently ended up as sex workers, even if Dren had spent years at school until he was overqualified to work as a therapist for people with sensory processing disorders. Tristan had used sex work to pay for his degree because minotaurs couldn’t get other jobs. Werewolves were seen as diseased, it was only the transient nature of bar patrons that kept him employed.
Orcs worked as soldiers because they were good at following orders. And at killing.
And Derick was half convinced that more than half of Kevin’s issues were that he was generally considered furniture. He had no legal status.
Gargoyles were the history keepers.  People paid extra to hire a real estate agent that could remember the history of a building.  But they didn’t want them participating in society otherwise. And really, the only reason that they were all living in this house was that no one would rent to a single male non-human. Except another non-human. Even then, most were speciesist. Any other werewolves he had met considered humans to be prey.
Kevin just flat out left movie night at the first killing. By the time they got to the horrible ending, everyone was thoroughly uncomfortable.
Derick stood up and stretched, “Well, I feel morally superior for having watched that.”
Vinny shook her head, “I knew the ending. I just feel emotionally drained.”
Kogan coughed, “My turn next. I always pick comic book movies. Have you seen the first Deadpool?”
Vinny snorted, “Am I going to get to see the second?”
Kogan nodded, “Next week, myturn.”
Vinny nodded and yawned and stretched.
“Can I walk you home?” Derick asked. She blinked at him in confusion. “In case you get lost on the way upstairs, I mean.”
Vinny laughed and nodded and took his arm.
“God, I miss this.”
“And what is that?”
“Women who treat me like people,” he said simply. There was probably a better way to dress it up, but he couldn’t quite think of one just now. Maybe he should have taken the time because she stumbled on the steps at his words. His faster reaction time meant that he had a steadying hand at the small of her back before she could fall backwards down the few steps they had climbed.
He expected the flinch. It still stung when it happened.
“Whoa! How did you move that fast?”
“Practice,” he teased. Then as he started to pull his hand away, he felt her arm come across his back and up onto his shoulder.
“Good thing you decided to walk me home. Who knew this was such a dangerous area?”
He smirked; she laughed.
The third floor landing was freezing. “Shit. I know Bazur sometimes forgets to close the window, but he was downstairs with us all night.” He sniffed. “Smells like rain,” he said uneasily.
Vinny noticed. “Afraid you will melt?” she teased.
Derick blushed and pulled away. She caught his hand and pulled him in for a kiss. To his shock and horror he was too unsettled to even enjoy it.
Her face fell and she took a step back. “Wow, that was awkward. I… I’m sorry I overstepped.”
He didn’t move his hands from around her waist. “I really don’t like thunderstorms. It isn’t you. That was nice and if you try again tomorrow, I promise I won’t be distracted. I just really, really don’t like storms.”
She cocked her head and frowned at him, “My Nonna had a dog that would hi-”
Now he stepped back. “Don’t do that. I am a person, not a dog.”
She shifted awkwardly. “I’m sorry. I just thought… Well, it was the only time Baxter ever slept on her bed, was during thunderstorms. I have a big enough bed for both of us while you are… changed. I thought… I’m sorry. You’re right you are an adult. I’m sure you have this.”
Derick blinked. There was no way he could be understanding this correctly. “You are offering to let me sleep with you?”
Now she was embarrassed. She looked at the floor. “I’m not offering to have sex with you. Just… I … yeah. You can sleep in my room if you want.”
At that point, there was flash of light followed immediately by a crash of thunder that rattled the window. August storm season was officially upon them and Derick had kicked it off with an undignified yelp in front of his crush.
Vinny opened her door. “It’s up to you. But you are sleeping on top of the covers, whatever form you are wearing.”
He followed her into her room. He watched as she closed the windows. He could smell Kevin, but couldn’t see him. Vinny pulled a night shirt out from under her pillow. “I’m going to brush my teeth.”
Derrick watched her leave. He was stripped and changed and trembling by the time she got back.
Vinny looked at him, then closed the door. She crawled into bed then patted the spot next to her. “Come on then.”

Questions Game
Rules: Answer all questions, add one question of your own and tag as many people as there are questions. (Or as many as you want.  I’m not your momma.) I was tagged by @seljepw  (She’s awesome and I’m honored she thought of me.) 1. Coke or Pepsi: Pepsi, I guess?  I prefer Dr. Pepper or Cheerwine, honestly. 2. Disney or Dreamworks: Disney 3. Coffee or Tea: Tea 4. Books or Movies: Books, definitely. 5. I need desperate help - my sensory issues w/food are really damaging my health, I can barely handle most fruit and veg and samefood junk for months. I've managed to find some vitamin supplements that I can swallow but since I'm already so low they aren't making much difference We have a family history of diabetes and I'm terrified I'l end up diabetic and won't be able to eat safe foods but idk how to get better without putting myself through sensory hell and having meltdowns at every single meal
A few of us agree that it sounds like you need the help of a professional. If sensory issues are drastically affecting your ability to eat a healthy diet, it’s important to talk to your doctor to get a referral to a nutritional therapist who can help you figure out things specific to your sensory needs that you can eat that will help you get the nutrients you need. Your doctor can also do screenings to see if you are at high risk of diabetes to help guide the advice you are given by the nutritionist.
Doctors are also able to give you stronger doses of the nutrients you need to help you get back to healthy levels faster than you would be able to do on your own. They will also be able to figure out if your body has suffered any damage due to malnutrition.
We are not doctors or nutritionists and are not able to provide the help you need, though we very much so want to help you. Unfortunately, without knowing what your specific sensory needs are (are fruits/veggies bad because or taste or texture or both? are there certain ones you can kind of handle? etc.), it’s hard to provide advice about what might work for you.
It might also be worth looking into ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder). From Wikipedia:
Avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID), also previously known as selective eating disorder (SED), is a type of eating disorder, as well as feeding disorder, where the consumption of certain foods is limited based on the food’s appearance, smell, taste, texture, brand, presentation, or a past negative experience with the food.
I really hope you are able to get the help you need!
