can i *coughs* can i hear more about this sb and robin love square??

maybe i should make a tag for it to group all the posts i make about it but uhhh

its basically just me playing with the lovesquare pairings and taking moments from the mlb show and applying timkon to it, like the balcony scene. its not a super detailed au or whatever.

one of the biggest things i wished the show did was explore how the different dynamics change and kind of merge into one as they get to know each other better, or how they could potentially reverse dynamics so i imagine smth like that happening w this au i guess

i guess the first one would be called superrobin? superboy and robin meet each other as heroes and become a team, and its pretty much the same as ladynoir in the show. flirting and bantering, unending trust and loyalty and adoration, but the secret identities keep them a hair apart. in the comics, SB takes a bit to come around but i do think he's always admired and cared about robin's opinion of him, and then the whole angst trust issue thing ladynoir got going on in s4 is sort of like tim and kon in the era of comics where kon had trouble trusting tim bc tim wouldnt reveal his name and was secretive.

i haven't seen the last eps of s4 but im pretty sure there's a whole thing where mari thinks felix is adrien and he gets annoyed/jealous? yeah im imagining that but with Match posing as Kon and kon being annoyed lol

then there's timkon, which i guess would be their civilian pairing? conner at first thinks tim is stuck up and acts like he's above it all, which is taken from their early dynamic in the comics and i just applied it to the civilian side. meanwhile tim is trying to deny his feelings. you know how marinette is like a fashion designer or whatever? i think tim should be a photographer

then you have...robinkon? robkon? which is the equivalent to ladrien. i guess both would be very flustered but idk what else to say about this one

and finally supertim...or timSB idkkkk. the marichat equivalent where you have tim and superboy who have the least affectionate opinion of each other in this form, but have a cool opportunity to get to see the other side of their pal. like superboy gets to see tim when he's not robin and how he's just a Kid you know trying his best, and tim gets to see that superboy isn't always bombastic and obnoxious and can be quite sweet, helping him realize that SB is a pretty good hero and a cool guy. of course in this, superboy wouldn't know tim is robin, but then he'd be nicer to tim when he's conner now that he's more understanding. also that episode where chat has to be marinette's bodyguard and she tries to hide her teasing? or the balcony scene? i like imagining those with them lol

also im pretty sure theres a theory adrien is a sentimonster or clone thingy and kon is a clone soooooo theres that too

I Beg To Differ.

Okay, now just because I'm about to embark on an epic rant does NOT mean I think anything bad about you as a person, OP. It's just on this one teensie-weensie most minor of points, I happen to think you're 100% wrong. Just thought I'd clarify that, so no offense intended. Anyway, on with the show...

Nah, they did us SO dirty with Chloe. I hear your above argument a lot, and it WOULD be a fair point… if it wasn't for the fact that there are SO many clear signs this wasn't what was intended from the beginning that it makes your reasoning completely null and void. Chloe's 'arc' was the most blatant case of in-show character assassination I've ever had the displeasure of witnessing, and I'm about to explain why. Read on! (If you want to, that is.... no pressure).

They strung us along for at least three seasons with various hints about her 'traumatic past', her problems with her often absent mother (which Marinette didn't help by encouraging them to bond because 'they're both such awful people'), showed her genuinely apologizing to her victims, protecting Sabrina from akumatization and having times when she treated her as a real friend, sacrificing herself to save the day occasionally, hugging Miss Bustier in a moment of genuine emotion, telling Ladybug how 'useless' she felt in a teary rooftop encounter, saving lives both as a superhero and a civilian (check back if you don't believe me), giving Adrien a moving speech on his phone about how 'she'd always be there for him', sharing a really close bond with her father, telling her butler Jean it was time she started doing things for herself, loving Mr Cuddly, adoring Pollen… I could go on. Not the best person in the world, true.... but a promising start. Green shoots, and all that. Her name literally means that.

S4 simply forgot any of this happened, and literally pushed her burgeoning development off a cliff with Sisyphu's boulder tied to it's big toe. There was NO build-up, NO foreshadowing, NO precedent for Chloe suddenly becoming a one-dimensional total-sociopath irredeemable-monster AT ALL, they simply made her that way on a whim. They had her start acting like a complete psycho for the evilz, made her the most stupid person in the show BY FAR, severed ALL of her few close relationships, wrote AN ENTIRE FLASHBACK EPISODE in incrimate her newfound nastiness even more and 'punished' her by sending her off exiled on a plane in tears with her abusive mother to… what else? Get abused, of course. GREAT MESSAGE TO ALL THE VULNERABLE TEENAGE GIRLS OUT THERE. (I won't even get into how utterly useless and blandly boring her 'replacement' of a plot device Mary S... oops, I mean Zoe is).

And we're supposed to believe the former corrupt mayor Andre, the terrorist Gabriel Agreste and Thomas Astruc (you know him) are the GOOD guys here? Well, I'd like to tell you what I'd like to do to them… but for fear of censorship, I'd better withhold that particular information for now.

The upshot of it is… if Chloe had been bad from the beginning and terrible at the end, I'd have accepted it. Heck, if her so-called damnation arc was even halfway well written and gave us an accurate and compelling look at the moral descent a person who's capable of redemption could take to the light but ultimately chose to stay on the Dark Side, this would've been highly disappointing to me but fine from a storytelling perspective.

But they didn't give us anything like that, did they? It was just… 'pretend the last three seasons never happened, develop amnesia, hit yourself repeatedly on the head with a shovel… we don't care. Just accept this is the NEW Chloe without question despite past evidence, because you won't be getting any answers. Now let's go back to what we're REALLY here for… Marichat, Ladynoire, Adrinette and that other stupid ship name. SWOON!'

Thanks, but no thanks. Did I ever tell you how much I HATE this stupid show? Apologies if I didn't make that clear enough.

Fanfiction Year in Review 2023

I fill this out every year. It’s become a bit of a tradition for me. Allows me to reflect on everything that I’ve written and kinda think about where I want to go next. And I like it better from the ask games because I don’t have to wait for asks to come in and can compare my answers from one year to the next. ^_^

Written: 166,114 words

Published: 151,018 words (more than twice 2022’s number!! Go me!!) 

Those numbers are incredibly close together because I haven’t been redrafting as much. Those numbers include six one shots, three completed multi chapters. And another four multi chapter WIPs saw at least one update.

And in another fun milestone! I broke a million words published on Ao3 just this last week!! (I've been writing fic since 2003 and everything I've ever written is on Ao3!)

3 Your most popular fic:

Not Part of the Plan - I suspect that this is mostly because being a teen pregnancy fic, it’s my most tropiest story this year. Haha! 

4 Your personal fav:

Aftermath - This story has usurped Right Behind You as my favorite. I’ve been able to connect to the raw hurt and grief in this story, and there’s something very raw and human about it that others seem to be able to connect to as well. I think it’s some of my best work, and that is also thanks to an amazing beta in @ladyofthenoodle who has lent her expertise in more than one way in making this one more true to lived experience. 

5 Your fav scene:

It’s so hard to pick a favorite!! I narrowed it down to my three favorites in no particular order. 

The last scene in Ch 5 Love Remains - Chat Noir give amnesiac Ladybug a geography lesson from space. It’s got Whole New World vibes, and I just loved the imagery of it.

Ch 4 of Aftermath - I’m particularly proud of Marinette’s panic attack when Adrien tells her she doesn’t have to keep coming over. Like it feels like it comes out of nowhere, but it just totally makes sense. And how it manifests and how she soothes herself (it’s not healthy, but it’s so GOOD!)

Ch 7 of Would Trust You With Everything - The scene where Chat Noir tries to tell Nino who he is, but inevitably doesn’t. And how Nino reassures him through all that. This scene feels so raw, but so heartwarming in light of Adrien’s fears. And I don’t know - it’s beautiful to me.

6 A fic or scene that challenged you:

I really struggled with Right Behind You this year, though it wasn’t for lack of trying! I had started out the year hoping to go back to an update a month here and I only updated it three times throughout 2023. 

This was incredibly frustrating because the initial drafts of scenes would come pretty easily, but I couldn’t seem to make them pop the way the earlier chapters did. The good news is I think I figured out what the issue was. Most of my writing this year has been speed writing. And a big part of that is just where I’ve been emotionally. I’m very very out of practice in editing and redrafting, which this story and Aftermath both definitely need. 

I’ve only been able to edit Aftermath because I’ve had a ton of help. (Thanks Noodles!) Sadly, it’s harder to find betas for rarepairs, but I have succeeded! (Thanks@coffeebanana!)

7 A line of writing you’re proud of: 

“She wanted to be there to see it. To see him.”

This line is way better in context, but I’ve made myself cry about three times with it. And I refuse to explain it because that would give its power away. Guess you’ll just have to go read Aftermath. 

8 A comment that touched you: 

I can never answer this question without mentioning several!! 

Would Trust You With Everything - this story had a ton of enthusiastic followers - way more than rarepair work usually gets, and I wrote this story right after my life fell apart and all the commenters here made throwing this story together just that much more joyful during a time when I REALLY needed it. (I'm looking at you, @bittersweetresilience, @bbutterflies @flightfoot @coffeebanana and so many others that I don't know your tumblr name!!!) Not Part of the Plan Comments - I added sex ed lessons to the end of each chapter here because there’s so much about fertility and pregnancy that people don’t know if typical pregnancy fics are anything to go by, and this seemed to inspire so many people to share their pregnancy stories!!! And these have been so cool because I’ve learned that these stories just don’t often have an opportunity to be shared. And it’s neat that this story with its accompanying lessons could create a space for that!! Aftermath comments - lots of people who have really struggled with moderate to severe depression have apparently felt very seen by this fic. And that a story that is essentially about two characters who feel very alone and like no one can understand can help people feel LESS alone and MORE understood is simply amazing!! I love this story so much!! AHH!! Here's one from @neurovascular-entrapta that meant a lot to me.

9 Something that inspired your writing:

Grief and the need to feel things in a distant abstract-these-are-story-book-characters kind of way so I don’t have to feel my actual feelings as closely every moment of the day really kept me writing the whole year long.

10 Your proudest accomplishment (that one scene; finally finishing that one fic; posting your first fic; etc):

My writing has been really raw and messy this year, and I can’t keep tenses straight to save my life. But there’s something powerful about the rawness that I really like even as all the grammatical errors and the lack of effort on the technical side of most of my stories has driven me nuts. 

I am proud of myself for being able to get back into the big projects in these last few months after not being able to face them from April to October. And I’ve started participating in a few writing events here and there again in addition to working on my own pet projects. 

11 Do you have any writing goals for the next year?

Well, I wanted to finish Not Part of the Plan in 2023, which didn’t happen only barely! So hoping the last chapter and the epilogue make it out within the next month. Once that’s done I think I want to try and make Aftermath and Right Behind You my primary focus projects this year. And of course, I’m sure new plot bunnies and writing events will take over my brain on occasion. Last year, I said I wanted my writing to become a reliable mental health tool for me again, and I’m glad to say that it definitely was that for 2023. I hope I’m able to use my writing this year to continue my healing journey. 

And maybe go and proofread all of the fics I finished in 2023 to fix all the inconsistent tense issues to prepare them for being bound eventually!

I just don't think we appreciate enough the inherent hilarity of Ladrien/Marichat getting together publicly before the reveal. like, it's cute and all, but you know that at one point in the future they'll just have to stage a whole grand breakup, then feign being heartbroken over their "failed relationship", before getting together as Adrinette/Ladynoir.

and then, on the Adrinette wedding, they'll be rushed by paparazzi who will ask dumb questions like, "Congratulations to the both of you! Adrien, tell me, how does it feel to marry Chat Noir's ex?"

for which, Adrien will look taken aback for only a second before shrugging a little, smiling his softest-smuggest smile, and saying, "It's the best day of my life. I'm just really glad Marinette had only belatedly realize, she could have done better than me."

and Marinette will promptly have an aneurysm.

i can try! i actually don't read a lot of fanfic, but i can recommend a few I've read that I've enjoyed :) most are one-shots.

Experimental Kisses by MireilleTanaka (komorebirei) Summary: Ladybug watched him. Maybe it was guilt, maybe sympathy, maybe a streak of playfulness. Maybe the traumatic akuma experience had softened her up. Whatever the reason, a thought wafted lazily through her mind and out of her mouth. “You know… you’re right. It isn’t fair, is it?” Chat Noir looked up. “I remember my first kiss, but you don’t.” She hummed and tapped her chin, making a show of remembering. “It wasn’t a bad kiss, but we were in the middle of fighting an akuma, so I didn’t get to enjoy it much, either.” Oops—that came out sounding a little, no, a lot more flirty than she had intended. Anyway, if she was going to commit to this idea, she may as well go all in. Rating: T Comments: a very cute ladynoir kiss fic. i really like the way the author wrote the kisses here!

where roses bloom by @carpisuns Summary: “You’re sick, aren’t you?” He drops down to the balcony. “You’re sick because you love someone and … they don’t love you back.” (Love square Hanahaki AU, Marichat centric) Rating: T Comments: i LOVE LOVE LOVE this fic. a bittersweet marichat centric Hanahaki AU that makes my heart feel things. please read it

whose woods these are (I think I know.) by Reiaji Summary: Four years after his future turns to cinders, Adrien is a servant in the house he was meant to inherit. Disowned by his father and abused by his stepmother, his days are filled with drudgery until he meets a masked huntress in the forest behind his father's chateau. As his friendship with Ladybug turns to first love, he dreams of a future spent at her side. Then, on the eve of the Princess's masquerade, he meets his guardian—and is granted a wish. [Ladrien Cinderella AU] Rating: T Comments: magical ladrien cinderella au. it wouldn't be a fic rec list by me if i didn't recommend the fic that i still think about on a daily basis. the poetic writing, the story, the characters, just...AUGH. i cant even describe how good this story is. I'll admit i wasn't into it at first but by the time i got near the end i COULD NOT PUT THIS FIC DOWN. very good please read. multichapter

Eating (nothing but) Affection by crownedcrusader Summary: Some cats won't eat unless they feel safe. Unless someone they trust is nearby, keeping them company. Unrelated: Adrien has pushed away so many cold meals that he can't eat if he's alone. Rating: G Comments: a sweet fic where adrien doesn't like to eat alone. his friends notice this.

Probably Not The Best Idea by @coffeebanana Summary: When Adrien first offered Ladybug his spare room, it was mostly joke. Not once in a million years did he think she'd actually take him up on the offer. After all, he's the only one who's hopelessly in love. Right? For her part, Ladybug never meant to make a habit out of visiting Adrien. But now that she has, well…spending time with him feels safe. It feels right. So why not give this roommates thing a try? Surely it'll be nice, not having to hide her hero identity in her own home for once, even if she has to hide her civilian identity instead. All in all, it might not be the best idea they've ever had, but…can it really be the worst? And if they happen to get a little more than they bargained for in the process? That's just part of the fun. Rating: T Comments: VERY cute premise, excellent writing, ladrien roommates who are obviously in love with each other, WHAT MORE COULD YOU ASK FOR GO READ IT. multichapter

œuf ouch owie by miraculousunflower (ominousunflower) Summary: Chat Noir enlists Rena Rouge's help to create an Aspik illusion. Absolutely nothing goes wrong. Rating: T Comments: literally the funniest gd fic I've ever read in my life. I've never had a fic actually make me laugh out loud before and this one did. i still go back and reread it when i need a laugh. it's like a shitpost in artistic form

L'Autonomie by @xiueryn Summary: After three years, Marinette tells Chat Noir who she is. The only problem is that he doesn't believe her, insisting that her and Marinette couldn't be the same person. With the knowledge he's close to her, she tries to figure out who he is. AU. (mari finds out adrien is chat noir and has fun planting clues to make him believe she's ladybug.) Rating: T Comments: a silly ladynoir and adrinette reveal fic. ladybug tries to convince chat noir she is marinette. he doesn't believe her. it's adorable and i love it

My favourite cartoon ships 2.0!

1. Broppy, Branch and Queen Poppy, Trolls

Such an adorable couple with highly entertaining interactions, anything from bickering to heartfelt encouragement.  Great yin and yang with very opposite yet very compatible personalities.  These two truly have changed each other’s lives for the better, bring out the best in each other, and would do anything for each other - you can’t have one without the other.  I’m not much into reading fanfics in general, but have read all kinds of Broppy ones!  Hopefully we’ll get another special and series!

2. Elixie, Eli Shane and Trixie Sting, Slugterra

Close friends who are always there for each other, loyal teammates who work really well together, who both pester and support one another.  Cute interactions that, to me, give the vibe that they could become more than friends in the future.  I don’t know, there’s just something about them that catches my attention, so many options for fanfics!

3. Embade (not sure if there’s a ship name for them yet), Wade Ripple and Ember Lumen, Elemental

About as opposite as two people can be!  I fell in love with these two immediately - their dynamic is highly entertaining, being fire and water they have unique interactions no other couple could have, their dance scene / first touch gives me butterflies, their first date is the cutest thing ever, and I like how it wasn’t ‘love at first sight’ - they got to know each other first, then fell in love, and they really improved each other’s lives.

4. The Love Square (Adrinette, Ladynoir, Marichat, Ladrien), Adrien Agreste / Chat Noir and Marinette Dupain-Cheng / Ladybug, Miraculous Ladybug

Four ships in one, so lots of options for different fun stories between the characters!  I’ve read a few neat fan-comics of them, their varying dynamics are always interesting.  This ship also moved down my favourites list, because I personally thought their ‘just friends’ status dragged on too long in canon.

5. Simonette, Simon Seville and Jeanette Miller, ALVINNN!!!

Close friends who have similar hobbies and compatible personalities, I love the episodes where they interact, especially helping each other on projects or just hanging out.  They would make an adorable couple, I’d love to see them on a sweet little date.  I’m not a huge fan of the CGI movies, but I watch Chipwrecked solely for their interactions.

6. Guep (no solid decent ship name for them so I’m going with this), Guy and Eep Crood, The Croods

I love the fact that she’s stronger and bigger than him, and far from a typical girly girl, it makes a unique and unconventional couple.  Also, they take care of each other, it’s never one-sided (the macho guy rescuing the dainty damsel, or the powerful woman rescuing the weak guy).

7. Eugunzel, Eugene Fitzherbert and Princess Rapunzel, Tangled

Tons of excellent interactions in the series, a healthy relationship and another couple who has given each other better lives.  She’s not the typical dependent princess, but not an overly powerful female either, just the perfect balance.  And like Guep, he rescues her, and she rescues him; both have strengths and weaknesses, making them a very realistic pair.

8. Hiccstrid, Hiccup Haddock and Astrid Hofferson, How To Train Your Dragon

Another couple where she’s the stronger one.  I like their teamwork and interactions - even though she’s much bolder than him, she respects his leadership and is loyal to him.  At the same time, he respects her and is open to her suggestions.

9. Jilaire, Jim Lake Jr. and Claire Nunez, Trollhunters

Their development from barely friends to a close couple was natural and realistic.  There is literally nothing these two wouldn’t do for each other (Jim risking his life and breaking the law to save Claire’s brother, Claire fully accepting Jim no matter what physical form he’s in)

10. Snowlin, Prince Merlin and Princess Snow White, Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarves

Excellent messages about true beauty.  The rare movie relationship where the main female does not represent ideal beauty standards, yet still ends up in a happy relationship.  These two learned to truly love each other for who they are on the inside, regardless of their appearance, and will surely stick by each other’s sides no matter what.

fully sunk in today that it's canon that ladrien and marichat will never truly happen. chat noir said it best: as a superhero, he felt like he was taking advantage of marinette (a civilian, someone in a position of less power than him). i assume the same would go for ladrien, as ladybug would feel guilty too.

which means the only two ships that can be canon are adrienette and ladynoir.

okay so i'm not the only one who thought the placement of the handful of scenes where adrien's life is constantly mobbed by fans was random, right?

this episode was about marinette's superhero duties keeping her from being happy with the one she loves, and the people around her, her friends, telling her what to do and who she should be with, even though they all mean well.

(and if any of you even try it with me by adding alya salt to this i will RUIN your life)

but this episode was also just as much about what is keeping adrien from being happy with who he loves - his status as a celebrity, both as adrien AND chat noir. he can't run away to catch respite from detransforming, he can't even eat in peace with people following him around and seeking him out.

the cruel twist of irony there - he goes to marinette, actively seeking her out, but she refuses to see him. adrien is constantly chased but he can't even see the girl he's chasing after.

and then HE comes to marinette as chat noir. she's seeking him out but he chooses to go to her. adrien's agency is always at its most active around marinette (even more than ladybug). she says to him that she's a "fan" of his, but its not true. it's a lie she can't not tell to protect her identity, but also to hide that she's ladybug, his best friend, his partner, who's more closer to him than he's aware.

the idea of a "fan" here isn't even the first time its being used to hide the true nature of someone's feelings (see: troublemaker). this time its protecting marinette's identity but also desecrating their relationship as marichat. (ironic, i thought some people considered ladrien would have this concept)

but she also tells him that she's not like his other fans. she won't invade his space like they do. she knows who he is. she knows what a good person he is. she doesn't care about the mask and his image, she cares about who he is inside. she worries for his well-being, and she worries how her judgement affects him too.

and this is most importantly shown in the ladynoir scene. marinette is ladybug, and once ladybug hears that he has feelings for marinette, not her, she understands. she gives him a sweet smile and an affectionate gesture to his neck, showing him how close they truly are and how they understand each other. how she's his best friend and that will never change, even if romantic feelings change and superhero duties hold them back.

in a world full of people exploiting his image, seeking his attention shallowly, marinette is different to adrien. she's the one who saw through his sadness in risk, the one who gave him the courage to stand up to his father.

she's not his fan, she's his friend who will always love him no matter what. and that means so much to him, and hurts her so much to refer to herself as yet another fan in a crowd.

and remember how the first glaciator had ladybug rejecting chat noir with the utmost kindness one could possibly give? and how that brought them closer when it logically should have driven them apart? i think that happened again here. yes, their was a lot of doubt about whether being a superhero is even worth it, or if they'll ever get to be together, but it solidified their friendship and the foundation of their relationship.

the probability of them being together as a couple or not won't ever change how much they love each other and that's as pure as true love can possibly get.

Why MariChat is the best side of the Love Square (at least in the show)

I’m going to rank and go in depth about my thoughts on each side of the love square. Feel free to disagree with me.

Going from worst to best, we have:

Ladrien

4/10

I don’t like Ladrien. It’s the side of the love square that feels the weirdest, the least authentic. It’s the side of the love square where they’re both at their least genuine, where they’re both blinded by the mask - Adrien loves who he perceives Ladybug to be (super smart, confident, a super heroine), and Ladybug loves who she perceives Adrien to be (the boy who can’t be free, who plays by all the rules).

Do they have some cute moments in the show? Yes, I’ll give you that. But it doesn’t take away how blinded this side of the love square is.

Coming up in third, we have:

I feel like I might get destroyed for this, but hear me out.

They work fantastically as partners and friends, but I can’t see them working well as romantic partners (at least in the sense of this side of the square alone). Are they cute? Absolutely. Is it nice to imagine? Sure. Did I scream in the season 4 finale when he said ‘you haven’t lost me’. Fuck. Yes. But, even despite that, I don’t like LadyNoir, but it definitely isn’t the worst. I’m any other show (or in the movie) they could absolutely work and be better, but as we have it in the show, I love them just as friends and partners.

In a close second, we have:

Is this a controversial opinion? Maybe, who knows.

Of course, Adrienette is the ‘main’ side of the love square, and of course, I love them. They’re cute, I’m so glad they’re together now, buut they have nothing on MariChat.

Plus, the stalking, collection of trash, all the weird behaviour of Marinette kind of dampens things, but once she tones it down it definitely improves things. And, I love it when it flips and Adrien’s the one pining after Marinette, it was cute.

And of course, saving the best for last:

I could go on for hours about why these guys are the best side, but I’ll do my best to condense all my thoughts and feelings.

They’re the complete opposite to Ladrien. They’re at their most genuine together. They’re their most genuine selves, and they aren’t blinded by the image of the other.

They have a wonderful friendship, and the way they can talk and confide in each other is always sweet and beautiful.

The MariChat we got in season 5 was everything and encapsulated everything that makes them so good (aside from the way they then got ruined almost immediately).

Together, they can let go and be completely real with each other, because there’s nothing standing in their way. No image, no expectations, just them, letting everything out and being vulnerable together in a way no other side of the square can, including Adrienette.

This is why, without a doubt, MariChat is the best side.

god im so stumped for the endgame ship i have so many ideas so imma just babble until my brain clears out

at the end of this theres a poll so yall should vote on what i should do!

Zanemau

zanemau has such a sweet, sweet, SWEET dynamic in mystreet

i imagine zane falls first and falls so incredibly hard

but he doesnt realize hes in love because hes so dead set on being the best, best friend.

it takes someone else calling him out on his actions (buying aphmau big, expensive gifts, being touchy with her, constantly vying to get her attention, giving her custom nicknames that he will get mad that ANYONE uses)

then when he realizes hes like "oh fuck what do i do" and completely panics around her at all times

aphmau is kind of oblivious to this. "i mean like he does this stuff all the time, why would it be different?"

meanwhile, aphmau kinda slowly realizes that shes falling for him. shes more nervous about completely ruining their friendship more than the idea of him rejecting her completely

the big gifts and compliments and touchiness make her SO happy and excited. i imagine zane is pretty tight with money (despite being a nepo baby and sitting on tons and tons of money from his rich ass parents) so when he actively forks out money EXLUSIVELY for her it makes her heart all fluttery

their feelings are obvious to everyone except the two of them. the group kinda actively puts them in situations where they are put together.

they are very much your typical, sweet "best friends to lovers" dynamic. which is why i love it sm

Laurmau

mcd laurmau makes me go WOOF WOOF BARK BARK WOAOAUEHEJFJ

and yes im relying heavily in mcd for their characterizations. those are the true versions of these characters. fight me.

yall seen miraculous ladybug? marichat and ladynoir? yeah. yeah its that. thats them

like okay: he is enamored by her looks but he just becomes absolutely smitten with her personality towards the beginning of pdh season 1. its that highschool crush that never goes away. even when he says it goes away, it doesnt. in fact, as they get closer, it gets so much worse!

he keeps the playful flirting and just teases her constantly

but you know as a friend, so he says

and she always playfully turns him down with a joke or a tease but you know. she knows that's just how he is! he has no feelings for her or anything!

but she was wrong, obviously. when they move to mystreet together after sort of growing apart during college, BOOM! those big dumb feelings come back and laurence is... well you know. hes laurence. he wears his heart on his sleeve and he pulls her aside and professes his love for her.

she turns him down (again) but hes unwavered! they go back to their original dynamic and nothing changes

...except BOOM!!! APHMAU CATCHES FEELINGS!!

mental breakdown ensues (on her end) because "HOLY SHIT I ACTUALLY CAUGHT FEELINGS FOR THIS DUMBASS!!! I CANT BELIEVE THE FLIRTING ACTUALLY WORKED OH GOD FUCK!!!"

the next time laurence flirts with her she drops the bomb so casually like

"hey, mlady, when are we going to go on that date?"

"i dont know laurence. when are you going to take me?" cue dead silence and aphmau locking Eyes with him and staring into his soul

it takes like 15 seconds for him to catch on

and he explodes. his face turns beet red. he blushes and smiles and giggles and practically kicks his feet and that motherfucker is GIDDY!!!

everything in their relationship is basically the same except they kiss

in my notes, garroth and aphmau were childhood friends for much longer! but then aphmau moved, they eventually lose contact over time so she remembers garroth the most but not really zane and vylad as much because shed often stick to his side because she has a little baby crush on him

CHILDHOOD FRIENDS TO STRANGERS TO TO FRIENDS TO LOVERS DO YOU UNDERSTAND MY VISION!!!!!!!!!!!!!

okay but... not really "strangers" but they lose contact for a bit and reconnect in hs.

they dont instantly recognize each other but aphmau instantly recognizes zane when she sees him. it takes aphmau way too long (about 3-4 weeks into the school year, when vylad gets introduced and they go to the park together) to connect that garroth the "hot sophomore guy who i am fortunate enough to share air with who weirdly enough shares the name of my childhood crush/best friend but that surely is a coincidence, right?" is the same garroth ro'meave that she used to play with when she was young

garroth... knows. well he gets it much faster than she does. after all, "aphmau" is probably one of the most uncommon names to ever exist in this universe so he pretty much recognizes her right off the bat but how the fuck do you even begin to address this? (is what he asks laurence who literally just goes dude, just tell her)

and then you know how the story goes, the love triangle (love arrow? love axis? love corner??? ITS NOT A TRIANGLE WHY IS IT CALLED A LOVE TRIANGLE) commences, aphmau ends up rejecting both of them because they stressed her out and the boys chill out and then they all become friends

then college happens and BAM mystreet

garroth is more upfront to the fact that he never really got over her

sure he dated ivy and tried to date in college but nothing felt right

being with and near aphmau just felt right in a way no other person has managed to replicate

and suddenly she was back and the world felt right again

but hes still shy and has no idea how to approach her

(i imagine hes much more flirty and a little more like laurence [less extreme tho] when he doesnt really have feelings for a person)

and aphmau well? shes just happy to be back around him. the sun seems to shine brighter when shes with him and she has no idea why

theyre much more awkward then the other two ships i have listed here

esp as aphmau is falling like oh god. the tension??? the awkward pauses and long gazes??? ugh its delicious i eat it up

much like zanemau, it takes the skittles squad™ (aka the mystreet cast) to the extreme measure of locking them in a room and forcing them to confront their feelings /hj

or on the other hand, one of em confesses on complete accident or OOHH on a late night and just spilling their guts

anyway. again much like my zanemau written above garroth would SPOIL her with his ro'meave money and she would not know how to respond

but like i also wanna try my hand at rewriting aarmau to be less... bad...
