Forever sick of all the nastiness still being aimed at Bohemian Rhapsody. I want to write another essay about why this shittiness is upsetting to me and others who found comfort and uplifted spirits when we needed it most because these snarky assholes just don't know or, if they do, don't care.
I just hope one day the tide turns and people realise this was a good movie with a very current message.

hey babee!! could you please do a Joseph fic where reader is a very famous actress ( and also his costar on st4, they both came this season) and he develops a crush on her, meaning him being all nervous around her in interviews etc, and eventually leads to smut with her being a soft dom?!<3
𝐀 𝐆𝐈𝐑𝐋 𝐂𝐑𝐔𝐒𝐇 • Joseph Quinn
GENRE: fluff, smut
PAIRING: Joseph Quinn x female reader
WARNING: shy Joseph, famous reader,
AUTHOR NOTE: I'm getting sick of writing detailed smuts so I barely wrote anything. Sorry
WORD COUNT: 1.4k
After this I'm making the masterlist
Don't repost my content. It's a crime

Three. That is how many months long you and Joseph filmed together and, surprisingly, through all of that he still had a massive crush on you.You were an exceptionally famous actress. You played in Many films since Your late teens and they were a hit. You presently had lots of fans and supporters fixating on you particularly since you were currently in stranger things, Joseph was one of those many fans.
You wouldn't fret Joseph really liking you. You found it adorable and silly perceiving how bothered he got whenever he was around you on set. You were trusting through all the shooting he would ask if you wanted to go out for coffee at least especially after you've demonstrated you weren't seeing anybody, however he didn't do that. It was most certainly in light of the fact that he was shy. It was upsetting you weren't going to lie, however you got another opportunity.
here you were doing press tour with him. Ideally this time around it would be different. He would ask you out and turn his crush on you into something else. and if he didn't you would.
♡︎
You were sitting down in your interview chair. Right to your left was Joseph's which was empty at the moment. Five minutes had passed then the door opened, You looked up from your phone to see Joseph walk in. He greeted a few people before he turned and walked towards you.
You smiled at him. “Hi Joseph.”
He muttered a hi back with a smile before sitting down beside you.
Are you ready for the interview?" You switched off your phone and set it down next to your seat.
"definitely, I'm very ready." he muttered. You grinned at him as you turned away and looked elsewhere in the room. You didn't see Joseph breathe out through his mouth when you looked away. It was going to be a long hard day for him but he was ready.
The interview began soon after. The questioner began asked you and Joseph questions about the show. They were little straightforward questions, nothing you haven't been asked previously. It was towards the end where the more interesting question came forth.
"so Joseph, y/n, we realize this is your first time working together. How was it?"
You looked to Joseph and grinned. "It was amazing to work with him." You put your hand on Joseph's arm. His cheeks became red at your touch and words.
"he's actual sweet and kind. Always asked how my day was going and if I'm I'm fine. An actual sweetheart. I truly love having him as a costar.”
Joseph tuned in as you wrapped up your answer to the question. Presently his face was beating red. There was no denying he adored your answer.
"Joseph what is your response of that answer y/n just gave?”
You turned to Joseph. You chuckled as you took in the sight of his red cheeks instantly.
“um it's nice to hear that from her. I feel the same way. She's sweetheart on set. I really enjoyed our time together even if she made me nervous at times.”
Joseph brought his hand to his face to hide his blushing. You smirked as you turned back to the interviewer who was smirking right back at you.
After a good three hours every interview was over. You stood in the back of the room ready to leave and go back to your hotel.
“hey, y/n.” You looked up to see Joseph standing there. His hands were tucked in his pocket, a shy smile was on his face.
“hi Joseph.”
“are you doing anything after this?” he asked as he looked at you. “No. I was just going back to my hotel.” you responded as you shook your head. “Why do you wanna know?”
Joseph laughed slightly at the question. “Uh I was just wondering if you wanted to go out for some coffee or something?”
You brought your lip in between your teeth. “Hm that sounds like a good idea.” you watched as Joseph eyes lit up at you saying yes. He's been trying to figure out how to ask you this simple question and now that he has he could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
“I'm going to go to my hotel room and change. I'll meet you down stairs in 30 minutes.”
-
You went back to your hotel, you took a quick shower, fixed your makeup, and changed into a better, comfortable pair of clothes. When you finished you walked down to the lobby.
Joseph was already waiting for you there. When he saw you his adorable smile appeared. “Ready to go?”
You nodded. “Ready as can be.”
You and Joseph walked out of the hotel down the streets. It wasn't long before you both made it to a small cafe. It was very nice. there wasn't many people there which was ideal for the both of you.
“here we are.” Joseph said with a grin. the first thing that hit you when you walked in was the fresh smell of coffee and baked goods. You had to hold back your moan the smell.
“it's nice isn't it?” You turned your head and looked at Joseph. “Yeah, it's very nice.”
“this is one of my favorite places to come whenever I'm around here. Just thought I would bring you.”
You smiled at the thought of him bringing you to one of his favorite places. It was a small act but it made you feel all fluffy inside.
You took a seat in a booth in the back while Joseph brought somethings. It took less than 5 minutes for him to return with two cups and a bag of goodies.
“I got you a latte and a croissant. I heard they were your favorite so I got them for you.” he placed the bag down in front of you then sat across from you.
“where'd you hear that these were my favorite?” you asked looking at him.
Joseph chuckled softly. The same soft red appeared on his cheeks as he avoided eye contact.
“why are you so shy?” You reached across the table and took his hand in yours. Joseph looked at your intertwined fingers. The butterflies in his stomach went crazy at the action.
“you just make me shy.”
“do I?”
Joseph nodded. His brown eyes met yourself as he nodded. If you weren't paying attention you wouldn't have seen it cause it was so light.
“well I'm flattered, but you don't have to be nervous around me.”
You pulled your hand from his. You began to eat your crossiant and drinking your latte while chatting with Joe.
You discovered a lot about each other. It was very nice to talk about things with him without any interruptions or anyone watching.
After a good 30 minutes in the cafe you both thought it was best to leave. you walked back to the hotel together in quiet.
When you got to the hotel you got in the elevator together. As soon as the door shut you turned to Joseph and pulled him into a kiss. It took a second for him to notice what was happening but when he did he began kissing you back. It lasted a good 30 seconds before the door opened and you pulled away.
You walked out together, down the hall to your door. Joseph's was right across from yourself. As you tried to find your key you turned around to see him looking at you.
“um do you wanna come in?” You blurted out before you could think. Joseph nodded. You opened the door and walked in, Joseph right behind you. When he shut the door your lips were on his. You both made out. Joseph had started walking you back against the bed until you fell on to it.
Your clothes were removed not long after your body hit the bed. Soon after Joseph was in you thrusting in a fast pace. Both your moans filled the room up. T wasn't long before you came and he did on your stomach.
You both laid in your bed breathless and fucked out.
“so do you wanna go on a second date or are you going to continue to be shy?” you asked him.
Joseph laughed and looked at you. “Yes and yes.” You laughed, leaning over and kissed him.

✭ Law, Bepo, Penguin, Shachi & Ikkaku finding out you like Vocaloid + headcanons ✭
Hi there! Here are some silly headcanons I've been thinking about the past few days. I've been listening and drawing Vocaloid a lot lately and this idea popped in my head, so I hope you like it!! A good friend of mine helped me with this💚
Please keep in mind that english isn't my first language so there might be grammar errors🫠
I had a lot to write about Law and Bepo...
Also I won't be talking about UTAU that much since I'm not very familiar with them,,, sorry.
🎐Please keep in mind these are MY headcanons! If yours are different, that's perfectly fine! Feel free to drop them in the comments if you want🎐
⭐Gender neutral reader⭐
Law
Tumblr media
Ok so I headcanon there is a common room in the Polar Tang, with a couple of long sofas and where every member of the crew has their own little space somehow, like walls covered in posters and shelves filled with, books and even plushies of marine animals and their hobbies.
You were spending one morning there, listening to your favorite Vocaloid playlist in a den den mushi (you know, like the ones that appear in film red) when Law arrived, looking for a medicine book he didn’t have at his office.
Normally he would have just walked out the room, but as your den den mushi started playing Tokyo Teddy Bear, his eyes couldn't help but rush to look at you.
You noticed it and glanced at him as well. As your eyes met, he quickly looked back, grabbing the book and heading out the room.
"You like Vocaloid, captain?"
It took him a few seconds to answer before leaving you there. "Why would I do? It's a waste of time".
You were confused but didn't think much about it.
Until a couple of days later, when you walked past the door of his office and heard something familiar...
"Shinkai shoojo mada mada shizumu"
You couldn't believe it. You opened the door and looked at him with a smirk on your face, meeting with his shocked, flushed red face.
"IT'S NOT WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE!" He shouted at you before you left the room giggling, hoping you wouldn't tell the rest of the crew.
He's not the biggest fan, but since Bepo is, he ended up liking a few songs. He would never admit it out loud though, he thinks it would ruin his image.
I can't stop thinking he listens to the most edgy Vocaloid songs... . ...
You know, Lost One's Wheeping, Ghost Rule, Aishite Aishite Aishite and more.
Definitely enjoys Kikuo more than any other vocaloid producer. Also Wowaka.
Nobody knows about this, but he knows the whole lyrics of The Disappearance of Hatsune Miku.
Bepo
Tumblr media
Do I have to say it?
Seriously, do I have to say it?
This guy's OBSESSED. He's been listening to Vocaloid for years.
Maybe even before leaving Zou.
Everyone in the crew learned about Vocaloid thanks to him, so when he discovers you also enjoy it, he'll go so excited you'll get trouble understanding what he's saying. You'll see his eyes shining as he's speaking.
One day, on a karaoke session they decided to have not so long after you joined the crew, he started playing Ring no Shitensi.
"Oh, I know this one!"
And his sprakling eyes rapidly landed on you, his lips drawing a bright smile on his face.
He runs into you, not midning the music still playing as he holds your hands and starts talking to you so fast you can barely understand him.
You glanced nervously at Penguin and Shachi for a moment, and they just lifted their thumbs, telling you it was normal.
His favorite producers are definitely Mitchie M, Kinoshita and Livetune.
No matter how many redesigns Miku gets, he'll always prefer the first one.
He knows all the producers mentioned in Kagamine Let's Say the P Names. All of them.
He's one of those people who blast christmas music once it's October 1st, but instead of Mariah Carey it's just Snow Miku songs.
He has a space in his room dedicated exclusively to his lightstick collection, and he knows all existing choreographies from the concerts.
Obviously, in their karaoke sessions, he'll just sing Vocaloid (and Uta) songs.
He has dragged Penguin and Shachi with him, and the rest of the crew knows the lyrics of at least one song or two. Knowing about Vocaloid is inevitable when he's around.
When he discovers a new song Law might like, he eagerly shows him. Law always says he's not interested, but he ends up listening to it on repeat when he's alone.
And he's just as obsessed with UTAU as he is with Vocaloid.
Penguin & Shachi
Tumblr media
I feel like instead of them reacting to you, you'd react to them.
Like, again, on a karaoke session, you'd see how they sing along with Bepo, and that just surprises you.
"I didn't know you guys liked Vocaloid!"
"You never asked" They said to you with a playful smirk.
They are glad you also enjoy the music, but don't mind as much as Bepo. Shachi would maybe express it better than Penguin.
Sometimes they join Bepo with the lightsticks, specially if he's playing classics as World is Mine or Luka Luka Night Fever. They ended up learning the movements from watching the bear.
Huge. Deco*27. Fans.
Also they enjoy a couple of Mitchie M and Neru songs, but leave the edgy ones to Law.
Would have a whole discussion over what Miku's voicebank is better on a daily basis.
"V4 pronunciation is way better, man"
"Yeah but it doesn't sound as robotic as V2. What's the point of Miku if she doesn't sound like a robot?"
Shachi's a Rin fan while Penguin prefers Len. Sometimes they tease each other like little kids over who's better, but at the end of the day they both enjoy the twins.
Not that much to say about these guys, just average fans.
Ikkaku
Tumblr media
(so sad there aren't more GIFs where Ikkaku appears😭 but this one's fire anyways)
Short because she doesn't really care about Vocaloid that much.
She would be like "Oh that's cool" and continue what she was doing. She just doesn't care at all.
Definitely the most chilled listener among all of them.
V Flower and Gumi. That's it.
She doesn't listen to Vocaloid that often, just from time to time when she remembers they exist.
At first she was like "Wth are they doing..." whenever Bepo, Penguin and Shachi danced with the lightsticks, but now she's gotten used to it.
Has no problem listening to Bepo talk about Vocaloid for quite the long time.
But the bear made her hate Snow Miku songs. She wouldn't have if he didn't played them on repeat from October until the next one is released.
She actually enjoys some of the classics.
Specially Magnet.
You know why... 🧡🤍🩷

Today's the anniversary for me! ✨
I know the Mario Movie was released on April 5th 2023, but back then I was seeing the Holy Week processions with my dad, so I didn't get to go to the cinema until April 8th, which was a Saturday, and that was when everything changed for me 😌💚❤️
This is going to get a bit long, personal and emotional, so it's totally fine if you'd rather not read it! 💖
As I've mentioned, this movie saved my life simply because I was in a terrible place when it came out. Admittedly, I had been feeling a bit better that week thanks to the fact I was going out every day and was distracted and such, but my mind was still not totally... fine.
Until, at 8PM, the Mario Movie finally started and I spent the next hour and a half with a silly smile on my face, feeling like a little kid again and experimenting lots of feelings and emotions I hadn't felt in many months. Happiness. Joy. Laughter. A warm heart. Tension. Pure emotion. Excitement. Nostalgia. The urge to cry, though not from sadness.
And the need to get those cute brothers off the screen and give them each a big bear hug.
Tumblr media
(Posted this edit on my Instagram account last Friday.)
Mario and Luigi did really save my life. I had already fallen for them long ago, when I was 13 and played Superstar Saga on my GBA, since that was the very first game that made me see these two as endearing and charming characters with a beautiful sibling bond based not only on love, but also trust, laughter and comfort.
And, in all honesty, seeing this movie, seeing that bond translated into it, was totally a dream come true. Aside from the M&L games, we don't really get to see much of these two taking care of each other (please correct me if I'm mistaken!). Also, I'm a 90s girl, so I had been wanting a good animated Mario movie since... I honestly can't remember. All I know is I used to watch the cartoons (specifically the one based on Super Mario Bros 3), and then I ran into the live action movie from 1993 and... Welp. Let's just say I'd rather forget it 😬 (Sorry if you did like it, it simply was NOT my cup of tea.)
And then this movie was announced, and every new trailer made me feel more and more hyped, and reminded me of my love for the Super Mario franchise. I had already been hyperfixated on it back in 2013-2016, when I played Dream Team and fell even harder for them (especially Luigi), and when I finally got to see this movie, that obsession came back stronger than ever.
I felt like a little child again. I went back to play my old favorite games. I listened to the ost on loop for months, and it ended up becoming my most listened album on Spotify last year.
And I also felt the urge to write again.
Writing has always been an important part of my life. I started at 8 and I simply couldn't stop. To me, it is like breathing, so when I spend some time away from writing, I'm not exaggerating when I say I feel a physical pain on my chest. And due to the bad place I was in, I had been away from it for way too many months.
It turns out all I needed was a dose of brotherly love in order to feel my fingertips tingling again with the urgent need to start writing.
So yeah. There are many things I have to celebrate today and to be thankful for. First of all: I'm alive, and happy, and better than ever, still struggling with anxiety and fears but feeling way better than I'd felt in the years before this film came out. I feel emotion, and joy, and will to continue living and enjoying life and fangirling and being myself. I feel connected to Mario and Luigi and my heart simply warms up every single time I think about them (which is 24/7 tbh).
And I'm writing again! 2023 was the year I've written the most in my entire life, and I owe it to this wonderful movie, and so far I've continued to write this year too, and that's also thanks to Mario and Luigi.
And of course, and more importantly, this film has led me to meet all of you, beautiful people, and I honestly couldn't be more grateful 🥹🫂💖 With you I can fangirl and scream and cry and be myself, and that's why I felt like sharing this with you guys, because I know you understand and share the feelings I've experimented these months since I first saw this movie. I love each and one of you with all my heart 💖💖💖
And after talking non-stop, I believe I kinda feel like finally showing my face here (the real one, not this one 😂), so... Here I go! 🤭👇
Tumblr media
This is me today! 🤭 With lots of Mario stuff as you can see, and I even painted my nails to match the main characters! 💅
Tumblr media
The blue is for Toad, the pink is for Peach, green and red for Luigi and Mario (obviously) and black for Bowser since he was played by Jack Black! 😁
Admittedly, I'm not very good at painting my nails because I'm not into makeup and such, but I do like to see them all painted, I think they look beautiful 🥰 Last year I used to paint them red and green all the time since I went not once, not twice, but thirteen times to see this movie, and every time wearing a different shirt 🤭 Though the one I'm wearing today is the one I wore exactly one year ago, as you can see here! 😁
Tumblr media
I literally cannot remember when or where I bought it, but it was simply PERFECT to wear to go see this movie 😁 And you bet, when the Toad guard said that quote from the first Super Mario game, I went all silly in the cinema: "OMG my shirt!!!!!" 😂😂😂
And here are some pics from some of the other twelve times I went, and you can get a look at some of the Mario shirts I own! I may go and show them all together in a different post, and maybe also the earrings since I own a lot: red shrooms, superstars, fire flowers, green shrooms... Would you like that? 🥰
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now that I see it, I look a bit scared on the first one 😂 The green shirt I'm wearing on the second one is pure GOLD, and on the third one I kinda felt like I was taking a picture with Mario himself 😂😂😂
I did own some Mario merch before the movie came out, but last year I went and bought tons of it, including shirts, earrings, and of course plushies! 🤭
Tumblr media
They look like a cute little family OMG aren't they ADORABLE I love them all so so much 😭❤️💚✨
So this is it! This is my little celebration of the first year since I saw for the first time the movie that saved my life 🥰 In all honestly, I would've liked to bring a fic or something, but as you all know, I went through a very hard Holy Week and I'm still not feeling totally ready to get back to writing (even though I've gotten a couple new ideas, for which I'm deeply grateful).
But I hope sharing my experience and feelings (and my face! 😂) is enough for this year, and let's hope I can bring a new Mario story to share with you guys very soon! 🥰
I love you all so so so so so so so so so so much!!!!! 💖💖💖💖💖

Sorry, but Zendaya is not doing well. I hope she has a back-up plan. Her status is far from good right now and she doesn't even have anything in the pipeline. Her peers have way more than her. God forbid even Kaia has more acting roles than her. She is losing followers on insta and she is not gaining followers even after a big film like Dune. There are a lot more haters than before and it doesn't look like her film will bring in much at the box office. Maybe she can become a housewife Or she can stay a model because her film career is not it!
Sorry, but Zendaya is not doing well.
Zendaya is doing JUST FINE. Dune 2 made a killing at the box office opening weekend.
Her peers have way more than her. God forbid even Kaia has more acting roles than her.
Tumblr media
Chiiiiilllle....I know you're not trying to compare Nepobaby Kaia "Can't Act" Gerber to THEE Zendaya?? 😒
Seriously??🥴
Tumblr media
Zendaya is a two-time Emmy WINNER. Kaia is playing bit parts.
Let's get real. 🙄
Zendaya has enough on her plate already. She had two films coming out this year, and who knows what she'll have announced later on. Not to mention, she's still supposedly doing the BMB biopic.
She is losing followers on insta and she is not gaining followers even after a big film like Dune.
Who cares about Instagram followers?? 🥴
Tumblr media
Actors have been acting long before social media. Some actors don't even have instagram accounts and guess what? Ppl STILL see their movies, and they STILL win awards.
There are a lot more haters than before and it doesn't look like her film will bring in much at the box office. Maybe she can become a housewife Or she can stay a model because her film career is not it!
Tumblr media
This is so ridiculous I don't even know why I'm spending time responding to this honestly. 😒
Not only is your comment SEXIST, but to assume that someone should just QUIT what they love to do simply because they have "haters" is just dumb. Zendaya is going to do whatever she wants to do thank you very much.
And btw, what actor doesn't have haters? Seriously! Serious question. What actor do you know out here that does NOT have someone hating on them at some point in their career? 🤔
The truth is, you can't name one. ALL actors have haters. That's unfortunately the type of sacrifice you make when you're in the public eye.
Us Zendaya fans are gonna ignore the silly nonsense and continue to support her. 😤
BTW, MOST people enjoyed Zendaya in Dune Part 2. Why focus on the few who didn't? 🥴

ONE DATE WITH LUXIEM
If we went on a date, where would we go?
WARNING: Please remember that I am writing about Luxiem based on their characters online and not of the people behind their vtuber avatars, thank you!
EXTRA NOTES: this is the most delusional i'll ever be and then i'll crawl into a hole and disintegrate into dust ♡
⊰᯽⊱┈───── ✧ ─────┈⊰᯽⊱
Tumblr media
GENERAL ; setting the stage
Established relationship with the luxiem members (albiet the beginning of one)
first dates !!! fluff !!!
i only know what romance is via otome game, i've never been on a date myself lmao
who proofread lmao (def not me)
MORE UNDER THE CUT!
⊰᯽⊱┈───── ✧ ─────┈⊰᯽⊱
Tumblr media
IKE EVELAND
Classic bookstore/coffee date
what can i say? he's a classy guy
he stayed up all night planning what to do for a date and even called vox of all people for what to do on a first date
"NO! I'm not inviting them to my house on the first date - that's too... ris- hey, I know you're laughing at me!"
he figured that the date wouldn't be enjoyable if he couldn't take you someplace that he also enjoyed, so he settled with an article of top 10 dating spots in your city; thankfully, it included a cafe bookstore that ike is a regular at.
he takes you to his favourite rustic/vintage styled cafe and even gives you his Top 10 List Of Coffees He Would Die For
bonus if the cafe was also a book-lover's heaven ; those bookstore/cafes are so neat (i don't know the actual name for those lmao)
the date ends nicely - a pleasant time together just chatting and drinking coffee together, giving each other book recommendations (ike says it's good insight for a novel that he'd like to dedicate to you at one point) and so on. you both decided to go on another date to find more cafes like this together.
Tumblr media
LUCA KANESHIRO
A thrilling amusement park/arcade date !!!
It's like having to walk a dog with a leash except the dog is luca running around the park grounds and pointing excitedly at different roller coasters
"C'mon Y/N! It'll be fine ! Look, I'll even hold your hand at the big drop, can we pleeease go on that one?"
Backtracking into the night prior, luca is the type to call everyone he knows so that way he could hype himself up for tomorrow
and to ask for fashion advice - it's surprising to hear something like this from luca, the man of fashion himself
also he just wanted to share with everyone that he finally scored a date with someone he likes
luca takes you to many different rides - thriller rides, fun rides, rides he's never been on, you name it!
luckily for you, the amusement park also had a small arcade too - luca took it upon himself to win you every prize imaginable even if some of the things he did made him look silly
the date ends off at a romantic ferris wheel ride because vox told him it'll be romantic AND he's seen it in anime before (of course anime would be correct, they are very accurate with the love-story telling for sure!)
the date is a success! luca scored another date - perhaps next time, things will be a little more calmer.
Tumblr media
MYSTA RIAS
the ever so classic movie date - but he's the one who suggests to watch a horror movie (even though you do know he's a little cowardly at times, you follow along with his plan)
it was either vox or luca who actually suggested the horror movie - much to mysta's dismay, but !! he's willing to do so for you !!
"a horror movie? are you sure?"
mysta would like to think he's THE shit, the smoothest person on earth who is about to woo YOU
date plan (brought to you by mysta): suggest horror film for your first date with him, watches you get scared and comforts you while putting on a brave face so that way he would look cool and epic in your eyes, fall in love (SUCCESS)
he could've suggested a rom-com, but he wanted to seem so alpha sigma male and not some beta male (cue the eye roll) in your eyes that he completely forgets to pick a movie that was enjoyable for the both of you
he also fails to realize his own fears and instead cowers behind you while watching the scary movie together (bonus points if he is legitimately hiding his face in the crook of your neck or something so he doesn't watch the film lmao)
after leaving the theater, he starts becoming sulky and pouty about looking cowardly in front of you that it literally takes your entire being and a half to practice self control - whatever you do, don't tease him !!! he's trying his best !!! even though he's so cute and all ;;;
you can believe that he instantly started jumping for joy when you suggested to watch a movie together again
SUCCESS! i hope
Tumblr media
SHU YAMINO
a trip to the aquarium is to die for when going on a date with shu
shu instantly thought of bringing you to an aquarium after winning tickets for 2 at a local supermarket for one of their events
the night before the date, shu spent time watching different aquatic documentaries so he could impress you with his knowledge of the fish in the aquariums (yes he watched wild kratz yes it was to impress you)
nerdge shu (REAL) - while you both are touring around the aquarium, he starts to tell you random facts about the fish you see
"oh yeah? that's a clownfish.... best well known for their role in finding nemo..."
lots of photos !!! the cutest couple aquarium photos to ever exist !!!
the walks under the tunnel area felt a bit too romantic - walking hand in hand with shu, watching him ramble off about the sharks that swam peacefully and the lighting.
dear god the lighting
surprisingly enough, the blue and green hues of the aquatic tanks made shu's whole appearance feel otherworldly ; if you can disregard the flames that follow him around ever-so often. it was mesmerizing (he knows you were staring and he's a little glad that the aquarium lights were able to hide his flustered face)
the date ends off well ; shu had a blast and you gained the important knowledge that he truly is a nerd even though he denies it - well, at least he is your nerd.
best believe from now on, every anniversary or important event will be celebrated at the local aquarium.
Tumblr media
VOX AKUMA
an art museum and dinner date, how fancy
another very classy man who had to call everyone he knows because ' holy shit this is THE Y/N he's taking on a date with and his heart is about to combust '
yes we're back with the wiki-how articles on how to impress your date on the first ever date; shu was the one who sent him a link and he thought maaybe it's good for a little light reading
"Shu... you're a genius! they would love this!"
"Vox, it's just a wiki-how article, you don't have to take it to hea-"
"SHUBERT I OWE YOU ONE."
he eventually settles on a nearby art museum as they were having an event for an artist you once mentioned - perfect!
that definitely displays that he was listening to your conversations with him and he remembers - how sentimental!
as for dinner, he decided to show off his culinary prowess and impress you with a restaurant quality dinner created by yours truly!
he's about to become the man of sex the man who is going to sweep you off your feet!
well at least that's what he hoped.
the art museum was boring - the two of you only toured around the small exhibit and left quickly THEN went to a fast food chain of all places before you could try vox's cuisine.
it made him pouty on the way home that the date didn't go according to plan, but you noticed how much effort he made in order to make it fun for you, and to be honest - knowing this was a lot better than the actual date itself.
so the date ends off surprisingly well - a little kiss on the cheek for goodbye and another scheduled date where the two of you get to laze around all day is set; vox couldn't be anymore happier than that.

I do have my own opinions om way barbie was ultimately a bad movie but I wanna hear yours!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
thank you very much for the asks, anons. there are dozens of us!
maybe this is controversial, but the reason i didn't like barbie actually has nothing to do with its famously milquetoast feminist message - i don't think that every single piece of media produced by or predominantly aimed at women needs to have a deep or complex engagement with feminist theory. things can deal with their themes in an extremely surface-level way [and the fact that so many women have been sincerely moved by "the monologue" isn't something we should overlook - i did think "good for you" when america ferrera pointed out that there will have been viewers who were hearing the sentiments expressed in that speech for the first time, and i don't think we should be so dismissive as to presume that barbie will be those viewers' last experience of pondering the concept of womanhood], and that's fine.
and i also think that the framing of barbie as being something profound is the direct result of the contemporary expectation that products marketed towards women "need" to be "feminist" - it's #girlboss culture in its purest form, perhaps slightly more admirable than full-on "my brain can't handle decision-making so i let a man do it" stuff, but a trend and a product nonetheless. i think that both greta gerwig and margot robbie were in a position where it would have been impossible for them to say "no, obviously i don't think this is a seminal piece of feminist film-making - it's a campy, fun, lightweight popcorn movie" and not have generated endless negative headlines which would have rendered the film less marketable.
but my beef with barbie is that it was nowhere near as much of a campy, fun, lightweight popcorn movie as it should have been.
it gets lots of criticism for being referential, but i didn't think it went nearly far enough - if your audience is primarily millennial women, make some unmissable overt references to the pop culture these women are familiar with! i want to see clueless, heathers, mean girls, ten things i hate about you, thirteen-going-on-thirty and so on explicitly referenced with a wink to the camera!
i wanted the double-entendres to be dirtier and the styling of the barbies to be camper [they did, i will concede, a great job with the kens] and there to be more silly song-and-dance numbers [i'm just ken genuinely does slap, and there could have been an equivalent led by the female cast - margot robbie can clearly dance and autotune exists if she can't sing] and for there to be considerably fewer adverts for chevrolet taking up half of the film.
i wanted it to be no more than it ought to have been: the sort of film you go to with tinned cocktails in your bag, enjoy, and then never think about again.
i did not want... the discourse.

Jen Tortures Herself With Every Dreamworks Animated Movie Ever: Monsters Vs. Aliens
Tumblr media
So you might be surprised to learn I never really watched this movie before now. And yeah... I don't think this movie was really a major part of too many other peoples' childhoods either. Because uhhh we got a mid in an otherwise banger era for Dreamworks.
Tumblr media
We focus on Susan, who is struck by a meteorite at her wedding and mutates into a 50 foot tall woman, now dubbed Ginormica. She's imprisoned alongside a group of other monsters, including Dr. Cockroach, the Missing Link, B.O.B, and Insectasorus, who are all recruited into fighting an encroaching alien menace in exchange for their freedom. It's a simple story, one that's clearly harkening back to classic monster and alien movies alike, sort of as a blending of the genres of sorts. It presents moments of strong emotion, but idk, they just didn't really land for me? This whole movie as a whole really didn't, tbh.
Tumblr media
Our characters are fine enough. Susan is an ok protagonist, initially a very normal woman who comes into her own and grows strong both physically and emotionally as the plot goes along. The other monsters are ok, not as annoying as I thought they'd be, but not the best either. I did enjoy the friendship they had with each other, and with Susan though, you really do get the sense that all these weirdos genuinely care about each other. Our villian is Gallaxhar, a power-hungry alien, and he's your usually silly antagonist who is just... ok. Like everything else abuot this movie.
Tumblr media
The animation is... again, ok. I believe this movie was initially made to be shown in 3D, so there's a lot of weird stuff going on on that front. The character designs are also kind of ugly, especially some of the humans, though I think that might have been intentional given that How to Train Your Dragon only came out a few months after this and the humans all look fine in that. There's a good mix of action and comedy here and both are again, say it with me now, just ok. Nothing laugh out loud hilarious here, I kind of didn't react to much of anything at all while watching this.
Tumblr media
So yeah, Monsters Vs Aliens isn't really a bad movie, but I can't call it anything other then just ok. It's not very memorable, not when matched up against its contemporaries, and I can see why it never really garnished any sequels (I know it does have TV show though, I have fever dreams of seeing it on Nickelodeon while home sick from middle school). It just... doesn't leave much of an impact on you (ironic, given the film starts with a literal meteorite impacting a woman).
The timing for this movie is so weird because it really is just a very meh movie sandwiched in between some of Dreamworks' absolute best. Personally, it didn't do much for me, but I'm not much of a sci-fi buff in general so maybe I'm just not the right audience for it. Idk ya'll, at the end of the day, all I can say about Monsters Vs. Aliens is that... well, it certainly exists. And that's about it.
Overall Rating: 5/10
Verdict: Get wrecked by a radioactive meteorite

Classic movies I have watched thus far and are ranked according to:
Monster/alien/robot and human action
If the genders were flipped, would it appeal to me more
Is it so bad it's good or so bad it's bad?
Movies Reviewed in the post:
Barbarella
Voyage to the Planet of Prehistoric Women
The Forbidden Planet
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
Life Force
I Married a Monster From Outer Space
Everything (INCLUDING SPOILERS) so far under the cut:
Tumblr media
Barbarella: OK. this one is actually pretty silly. Definitely has aspects that would not be considered "progressive" today that were probably revolutionary at the time. Like I'm sure a woman who had sex with men and enjoyed it would not be labeled as "innocent" the way Barbarella is played to be, but like in the context of the sixties... idk probably was a profoundly intriguing concept. Loved the set and costume designs!!!!!!!!
Rating: 6/10, lots of human/nonhuman action.
Would I enjoy it more if the genders were flipped: Yes, as long as the costumes stayed the same. <3
Not bad. The parts that were dated could even be fun.
Tumblr media
Voyage to the Planet of Prehistoric Women: THIS WAS SO BORINGGGGG!!!!!!!! yup there were definitely come prehistoric (????) women there and they were all blond. I was definitely expecting this to be a low key fetish film about the really bad "noble savage" trope but the team from earth doesn't even see the titular prehistoric women. It's just the team from earth dicking around trying to collect samples while the prehistoric women try to secretly run them off by getting their gods to cause harm. Costume designs looked like cheap party city props.
Rating: 1/10, no action at all.
Would I enjoy it more if the genders were flipped: No.
So bad it's bad, full stop.
Tumblr media
Forbidden Planet: Actually not too bad. Just disappointed that the aliens had been long dead by the time the humans get there. No alien/human or even robot/human action. GREAT set design (I like the look of old scifi set designs even if they don't look "real" i will always believe in set design superiority over CGI), pretty nice costumes. Very predatory romance between all the men of a military crew and the one human girl and some references how "immodestly" she dresses around them (I am rolling my eyes all the way back to my brain)
Rating: 5/10, interesting concept but no human/nonhuman action
Would I enjoy it more if the genders were flipped: that would be an interesting dynamic
I wouldn't call it "bad," just that I'm definitely not the target demographic.
Tumblr media
Invasion of the Body Snatchers: oh i feel the strength of the red scare in this chili's tonight. Very much a "what if the russians invaded our town slowly" deal. No alien fuckery, in fact I'm still VERY confused as to how the switch happens. Because in this film, a pod will grow another human and then take someone's place while they are asleep. BUT in the scene where the main two are running away, when the woman is so tired she falls asleep... she's replaced? okay why grow a pod then. she was fine and then falls asleep accidentally for a few seconds and her humanity is gone but she wasn't replaced.... maybe it made sense in the sixties :/
Rating: 5/10, again. interesting, but no action
Gender flips? No, nothing would change
It's not bad, it's a classic movie for a reason. Pretty solid story line.
Tumblr media
Life Force: NOW THIS IS WHAT I'M FUCKING TALKING ABOUT BABYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY SPACE VAMPIRES? VAMPIRES FROM SPACE? But also on the flip side, have you seen that post where it's like "men who write scifi are like here's a cool world building idea and also how much i fucking hate women." That's this. Decent effects, cool idea, but the main character is just... wild. There's a scene where he's sure a space vampire has taken over a random woman and just beats the ever loving christ out of her, unprovoked. Super uncomfortable to watch. You can tell that this is like an example of how some men view attractive women as sirens that "lure" innocent men with their "wicked beauty" and manipulate them. Not a good look! The set designs are cool tho
Rating: 5/10, would have been higher if not for the violence against women :/ there is human/nonhuman action.
Would I like it if the genders were flipped: yeah probably, as long as the domestic abuse undertones were also removed.
So bad? Oh girl they play it 100% straight. This is a movie about vampires that come from space and everyone is giving it one thousand percent effort in their acting. It's not velocirpastor levels of great, but it's a good movie to watch while high with your friends on a friday night.
Tumblr media
I Married a Monster from Outer Space: oh girl that cold war red scare strikes again. This is definitely playing on the fears that you might just wake up one day and find out your spouse was a spy for the soviet union.
There is a dog, and the dog does die :(
Rating: 6/10, decent movie with drama and they explicitly sleep together in a very hayes code way
Would I like it if the genders were flipped: No, but the gender rolls should be. I played this up in the 'classics reimagined bisexually' but the guy does not actually malewife very hard
It's not bad. It's also not good.

tbh i didn't enjoy the ending for david tennant's doctor in the giggle. i'm gonna put it below a cut cause it is longgggg. also, this is sort of just a very personal reasoning for why i didn't like it. it doesn't mean other people can't like it - i just wanted to put my opinion here.
like, i can live with him existing as a seperate version of the doctor for however long it takes him to merge back into ncuti (even if i don't exactly like it. it's okay. it worked for other people, and i do think it was quite fun to see ncuti and david acting alongside each other. like, it worked. i just wished the writers and fans could let go of david tennant's doctor, because it constantly feels like everyone's acting like his doctor is better than all the others when i think that's something that comes down to opinion)- and those brackets went on for a while, whoops.
but i guess what i'm trying to say is that as much as the doctor's happy, nice, neatly wrapped up ending where he lives with the noble family and he's the uncle and everyone's got a delightful little family role has worked for other people, i didn't like it. i think, specifically as a queer person (tho i'm aware it's different for others, and that's fine) that sort of brand of found family that i see a lot in media and fandom feels off and wrong and the opposite of queer. it perhaps says more about me and my own issues if i look at a happy ending and can't like it because it conflicts with my worldview and the way i see family, but things like this never seem like a happy ending to me. it feels closed off and small and like being put in a box, as much as i understand that wouldn't be the family dynamic.
i didn't like how they sort of added mel to the family for these exact reasons too. and i think with the both of them, part of my dislike was because i felt it was wrapped up too neatly. we never get to see the journey of these characters. i was excited for mel, because i know from filming spoilers that she's going to be in ncuti's series, and i saw her say she had nothing and i felt that sort of related to the doctor. and i was like "oh! that's cool! it would be interesting if they explored this in the next series!" and then they just gave her to donna's family and gave them all an extra doctor and neatly fixed everyone's problems. i think that it is a little silly to be so disappointed that the fanfic building in my head while i was watching was dashed so easily, but it was such a good fanfic.
idk. this is a bit of a long ramble, and i understand that it's an anniversary special - it sort of has to be wrapped up like this. it has to be happy. that's how it works. this is in no way me saying "this is how it should have been", but i did just want to get my thoughts out because i enjoyed the episode so much, but that part of it is always going to disappoint me so much.

Loki Series S2E1 Ouroboros
My thoughts (only a week and a half late 😋) --
That was...HONESTLY GREAT??!! I'm so surprised how good it was given that my expectations were set pretty low.
When I looked at creative leadership for S2, I wasn't expecting much of a departure from S1 because Eric Martin and Michael Waldron carried over as the writers from S1 to S2, but I guess what I missed was that, correct me if I'm wrong, it sounds like Waldron is really just billed in name only and didn't contribute much because he got pulled onto other Disney projects, and since Martin was 2nd to Waldron in season 1, perhaps Martin with more control is able to bring a different perspective than he did for S1? Also, directors have changed, we have the Moon Knight directors now, and perhaps most of the positive changes I'm seeing I can thank them for, since I loved Moon Knight (until it got comic-book-silly in the later episodes with the purple alien-looking world ™ that's become a Marvel crutch that seems to be surpassing even the "sky portal/beam" now as an overdone device). Actually, it makes sense that a change of directors would make a bigger difference than a change in show runner / writer since again, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Marvel Studios has been running their TV show productions more like films where the director's creative voice is king, whereas in typical TV show production it's the showrunner/writer's creative voice that is king and directors step in to carry out that vision on a per episode basis.
Any-hoo...
This episode worked so well for me because the setup and stakes were serious and all this episode needed to do was keep the tone serious and execute on the setup from the previous season finale, and it did! Excellent execution, yay! Serious tone, yay! I think the episode probably benefitted in my eyes from the fact that it didn't need to accomplish any character stuff (TBD whether this season can improve on that aspect) and so could not fall short in that regard, it was very much a 'doer' episode of having a concrete threat / conflict to solve and the characters just went about trying to tackle what was in front of them.
Loki's face when he genuinely thought he was going to die? They did not have to go THAT HARD with the drama and emotion and I love that they chose to go hard and set Hiddleston's acting chops free. So much emotion on his face.
Speaking of how I thought the more serious tone was handled really well, I think Mobius's recurring fixation on the "no skin" thing is a really good example of that. Obviously the fact that Mobius kept bringing it up multiple times was done for comedic purposes, and it could have been played more hokey and jokey, but the directors did a fantastic job of incorporating that while also at the same time keeping the tone serious and keeping the tension up.
Season 1 did not make me believe that Loki and Mobius would be such close compatriots as this episode portrays, the previous attempt at character work did not do it for me, but I guess I'll just try to do a mental reset, take it as a given that they very close for some reason, and see where this season goes from here.
I liked Ouroboros. He was entertaining and a good change of pace for another support TVA character since I don't really enjoy Casey. And the whole sequence of Loki talking to Ouroboros in the past while Mobius was talking to him in the present was very well-written and a clever idea. I really enjoyed that.
Almost no Sylvie was also a plus for me that I know is not going to last, but might as well enjoy it in the meantime. I even thought the actress did just fine in the mid-credits scene and wouldn't have minded her if only Sylvie was just her own person and not a Loki variant, but I'm so done with seeing her in a reproduction of Loki's armor.
For me the only weaknesses of the episode were:
Sound mixing -- I had a hard time making out some of the dialog
I wasn't really following all the sudden exposition about why both Loki and Mobius were going to die and this thing they had to do with this piece of tech to not die...I think the setup for that could have been clearer.
So I'm feeling more hopeful that I could like this season better and my interest is definitely up. I think the test will be how the new directors handle more character-focused scenes when it's not running-around-under-a-time-crunch to see if this season will improve on that.

On With The Show! (a Jed Hunter x reader fanfic)
What's this? Something a little different?
I don't usually write x reader fics, but I had a super cute idea for one featuring Jed Hunter and I had to get it out of my system. Since it's not explicitly romantic, it feels more like a "Jed Hunter AND reader fic". I really hope you guys enjoy it!
NOTE: This story features a non-cis reader, I've done my best to make it as unspecific as possible (so it can be enjoyed by people that use any pronouns), so hopefully it turned out OK
As soon as the cast list gets sent to you, your heart goes heavy. It's not the fact that you've lost motivation to be part of the production, working with renowned director Jed Hunter is a pretty big deal, it's the character he'd given you
Nobody's to blame. You're extremely selective about who you talk about your transition to; Royston Vasey isn't exactly known for being the most tolerant of places. Not that Jed seems like that sort of person, but you can never be too sure. However, you trust your gut and send an email asking if you could speak to him in person
A few hours later, you receive a response:
Hello!
Hope you're taking care of yourself on this chilly day. I have a meeting tomorrow, are you free on Friday at 12pm? If not, we can figure something else out
Wrap up warm!
J.H. 😊
You roll your eyes fondly at the Mum energy that radiates from his email, it might be a little corny but it's nice that he cares. You send an email confirming the meeting and go about the rest of your day
*********************************************
Jed is waiting in the same room you held your audition, sat backwards on his chair as usual. He gets up instantly and goes over to greet you, taking your hand and shaking it with a smile
"Hello hello, good to see you!" He gestured to a chair beside his own and sits down "Glad you made your way here safely."
"Other than witnessing about 5 different people bleeding from their noses, yeah I got here alright." You say as you sit down
"There seems to be a bloody-nose-epidemic, must be nice for vampires!"
It was a silly joke, but you can't help but feel a smile tug at the corners of your mouth. However, the jokes would have to wait, at least for now
"I guess I should tell you why I emailed."
"I assume it's not because you missed me!" Jed laughed a little "Take your time!"
"Well," you explain "it's about the film. I'm sorry, but I can't do it."
The way Jed's face fell a little didn't feel good, he seemed genuinely downhearted to lose you. Nonetheless, he remained professional
"That's a shame, but I understand. Thanks for letting me know ahead of time." He opened his mouth to speak, then put his finger to his lips thoughtfully "If you don't mind, is there any specific reason? If not, that's kewl, but if it's something that happened during the audition process-"
"Oh god no!" You say quickly "The process was fine, it's not that. It's the character."
Right, now I sound like an entitled twat
"Not that it's bad!" You explain "It's..." Come on, get it out "the gender."
You could see Jed trying to work out what you meant. At first, it's a little odd that it's taking him so long to get it, but that's probably what happens when you grow up in Royston Vasey. He didn't seem digusted, just very confused
"Does it not fit the character? I didn't give it much thought, but-"
"Jed, I'm transitioning. Y'know, gender reassignment?"
Finally, the penny seemed to drop and he instantly put his hand to his mouth in surprise
"Oh my god!" He jumps up and starts pacing around the room, looking for something "I'm so sorry, yes! I get it now, let me just..." after a bit of rummaging in a drawer, he found his trusty clipboard
Once he sits down again, you manage to catch a glimpse of the paper clipped to the board - it's your information from the audition. You watch as he pulls a pen out of his pocket and scribbles out parts of it before handing the paper and pen to you
"If you could fill that in for me, that'd be kewl."
"I told you, I can't play the character-"
"And, as director, I have the power to pull a few strings!" He speaks with pride, the charismatic glee on his face feels oddly comforting "We may need switch the script around a little, but Jeremy and I can talk about that."
The last thing you want is to make things difficult, but this was also a huge opportunity. Being in a Hunter film is a big thing, especially in a small town like this. Plus, Jed's known for being very good to work with, and it's hard to find respectful directors these days
And, technically, he was the one that suggested rewriting the character for you. Part of you doubts how easy it'll be, but the chance has to be there
You take the clipboard and pen, seeing the scribbled out sections where your name and pronouns could go
"You've scribbled out my surname."
"Well yeah, so you can write your name in. The one you want me to use."
"I haven't changed my surname," you say, amused by the gesture "I'm not getting married!"
"Perhaps another day then." Jed laughs "If that's what you're planning, of course."
You smile and fill in the form, but your eyes are drawn to the comments he wrote during your audition. Despite the scrawled handwriting, you manage to make out a few of the sentences:
WOW!
So much natural talent
Easy to work with, lights up the room
"Someone has a wandering eye," Jed teases, taking the clipboard back "that's confidential!"
"Don't act like you wouldn't do the same!"
"OK, you got me there." He holds up his hands "But all my feedback for you was positive."
"I just don't want to cause problems on my first project with you. I guess I'm trying not to make a bad impression."
Jed gets up and goes over to stand beside you, placing his hand on the back of your chair. There's an earnesty in his face, relaxed and soft
"Being a director isn't just about creating a piece," he explains "it's my job to make sure everyone's happy. Cast, crew, if something's not right, people should feel comfortable coming to me for support." He moves to crouch in front of you "Don't feel like you can't talk to me or that you're too much, you're allowed to ask for help."
It's reassuring to hear that, and you can tell Jed means every word. And, as you both stand and shake each other's hands something tells you this is the beginning of a fantastic partnership
A/N: So... there it is. This was entirely out of my comfort zone, but I don't think it turned out too bad - let me know what you think!

waitt i read rwrb such a long time ago and don't miss it enough to watch the adaptation but my expectations were that it would be silly + cringe which is fine i mean so was the book But u saying they feel like different characters....now i have to watch & compare bc i mean. i don't remember the book entirely but i remember alex + henry being very uhm. well cookie cutter characters not that i didn't like them at all but they were hmm sorta bland? what you said is so interesting bc how could they fk up two blank sheet men w/only a few interesting arcs and quirks holding them up jcjgcjv tell me All your thoughts pls spill x
hello hello!! i've been flat out but i'm finally here to give you my thoughts on rwrb film!! disclaimer that i enjoy the book i think it's fun + silly with a fanfiction-y romance which i kinda ate up when i first read it in lockdown icl
BUT that being said the film was like soo different to the book and i do understand adaptations have to change a lot but i felt like the whole tone of the media completely changed it felt like it was laughing at itself and going from a bit cringe to just. over the top cringe.. i don't think the characters are super complicated but i think they're interesting in the novel! enough to care for them + root for them but in the novel sooo much of their backstory is stripped away and conversations they had about who they are and what they want etc... just so many aspects of their characters were shaved away so ur left wondering why they were doing anything .. and then just a few bits were played up hugely like alex's kinda goofy self + saying dumb shit was just. his entire character.
also the pacing was so batshit bonkers insane i couldn't cope!!! it should have been a little series like heartstopper !! contrary to what ppl might think i think the two actors had decent chemistry but they were never given a moment to let it play out fully before they were cutting to the next scene ! idk how it watches to someone completely new to it like it can just be a silly gay film maybe but this was so dif to all the things i liked about the book so yah... i did have a good time and a laugh while watching icl and they did bring some of my fav scenes to life which was fun

it seem so 😔 it's amazing to hear he's recovering well enough to write a whole show and do a whole tour! i have a feeling it won't be filmed, so it would be great to hear any of your experiences if you get a chance to see the show. (maybe you can send me a summary? i'm sure he'll talk more about it all then, given the synopsis for the tour :')) off the back of sean, rhod, and janey godley, i was just thinking about how the generation of comedians i grew up with are hitting more vulnerable years, which is very sobering, but i digress...
here are the tour dates for anyone who missed the announcement!
Tumblr media
here on panelshowsource? because i was busy and not online :)
Tumblr media
sorry anon, you sent this a couple days after his bday and i don't think i'll do belated posts. i actually wanted to do something for it, but i was just busy with life and didn't get enough of a head start (i usually need 2–3 days prep time). next time!
Tumblr media
yes i totally agree! i like daisy on the show because she clearly loves music (the way she's always hyping up the identity parade artists is honestly really wholesome and appreciated) and she is a riot — even if she's exaggerating, better that someone is exaggerating having fun than not. i guess that's where daisy and jamali balance each other out, some episodes lmaooo greg is a textbook ham, so daisy getting such a kick out of his RIDICULOUS jokes — which makes greg so happy — plus greg and noel already having such a comfortable (and often silly) rapport makes them such a solid 3. greg and jamali have definitely gotten more comfortable with each other, too. they're a fucking random bag of people but i think it works! that show is a hot mess of good, goofy vibes
Tumblr media
yeah, sometimes! just depends on the interviewee. last new one i listened to was probably ed byrne? i was just listening to a john kearns one since (spoiler alert for this ask post) someone asked for a collection folder for john — it's a sweet one. to be fair, john is just a sweet man. i'm not crazy about richard herring — he's fine — so sometimes i'll quit mid-way if richard is making it too much about himself or complaining too much (you know how he is). but in general i don't think i've missed anything significant bc i got bored or skipped an ep. do you recommend one?
Tumblr media
sure! they're honestly one of my faves ever. obsessed with them. i was just thinking about what chaos jimmy + jon + joe + roisin are, generally the episodes when joe is filling in for sean. jimmy already loves a derailing, and you can tell he gets such a kick out of both joe and roisin (same way he gets a kick out of rob beckett, honestly), and jon really lets loose with those three — they're SO stupid hahahaha like this has to be one of the most random, stupid episodes ever i love it so much
it will be my pleasure doing research for such a gifset 😈
Tumblr media
i have added him to the collection folder!
linked to some typical panel shows + added his radio 4 series, his latest radio dramedy with tim key and his sitcom top coppers (both added to the secondary masterpost), a couple sketch things, a couple youtube things :) i also collected his podcasts + a few random episodes i don't host on drive and added the links in a doc which i added as well (i'll go back and do that for the existing collections this weekend!)
enjoy!
ps. working on nish, mike wozniak, and david & victoria folders

Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
To quote or paraphrase Andy Farrant (I watched the stream a few days ago, the wording's not in my head) "It was better than it had any right to be."
Tumblr media
This was such a fun movie, though. It was silly popcorn fun with legitimate heart, which is exactly what action adventure movies should be.
I loved the overarching narrative and the way it showed a legitimate found family long before it verbally addressed it. I loved the relationship between Holga, Edgin, and Kira, and that beautiful repeated phrase "I'm gonna bring back your mom".
As someone who loves the idea of DnD but has never had much success with it (I think it's very telling that my favourite DnD stream is Oxventure and I couldn't sit through more than ten episodes of Critical Role), it was so curious how they played this. They didn't (although they very easily could have) show you the rolls, but you could definitely feel them sometimes. I'm not just talking about the Nat20s and NatOnes, but like Simon's player in general is a very good player with such cursed dice. He failed so many saves and had to adjust around them.
I actually wonder how someone who has never played the game would react to some of them, actually. Like, there's a point where Simon gets his foot caught in some cobblestones. To a DnD player, what happened is that it's clearly a failed stealth check followed by several failed saves from everyone to free him. But I wonder if to a non-player whether that seemed like a bit of an arbitrary complication to the story for DRAMA.
But there are, I should point out, very few points where I actually noticed those points that would likely end up as a divide. Mostly, I think, the movie was incredibly accessible.
Like, even painfully DnD tropes. Everyone points out that Xenk is either a DMPC or a player who barely ever gets to play and so is always overpowered so they can be a fun addition. But the actual painfully DnD trope about him is that he's just SO Lawful Good. So lawful that he can only walk in straight lines. But rather than it being specifically a DnD joke, he's a parody of The Perfect Hero. Everyone knows that trope. Everyone can follow that trope.
So the only problem I have with it from an adaption perspective is how twisted and messy the story felt. As a DnD player, it was fine - the players were scrambling to find solutions to a problem and were going on multiple quests to figure out what they would do. But I can definitely see how an outsider might find it all... incohesive.
They're gathering party members > oh, that wasn't good enough.
They're going to search for a helmet > oh, that isn't available.
They're going in search of a hero > oh, he's going to give them a different quest for the helmet.
They've got the helmet but more importantly they have this hero > oh, he's leaving, okay.
They've got the helmet > oh, that won't work.
They're doing a heist > oh, that's not going to work either...
Like, I get it. I FELT it. But I can also see how an outsider might react to it in the same way I originally felt watching The Dark Knight. After a point, plot twists get tedious. And some of these plot threads could have been entire stories on their own rather than quick asides. Everything was a little too shallow in order to fit a lot of story into a twisted adventure.
But that said, I enjoyed it. And I loved the complications in this a lot more than I do in heist movies where it all turns out that it actually went exactly as the grandmaster thief intended all along.
And more than anything, I loved the main arc. I am always a sucker for Found Family, but this was beautiful.
From the very start, the film goes out of its way to SHOW us that Holga and Kira are an unconventional but very real mother and daughter. Holga has a closer relationship with Kira than Edgin does. BUT the story is told from Edgin's perspective, so it repeatedly TELLS us that Holga is Edgin's partner, Kira is Edgin's daughter, and the quest is to bring back Edgin's dead wife so she can be a mother to Kira.
I love that dichotomy SO MUCH. I adore it when stories not only use show and tell cohesively, but make the difference between them a POINT. It was amazing, and something that I think couldn't have been done nearly as well in a written medium, I'm so in awe of how effortless it felt.
That one line was... mmph! Nice job, Mr Pine, nice job making that line hit your character so hard.
AND while I probably can't get into it without going on a whole essay about western ethics re: resurrection, there was something I really appreciated about how the film didn't linger over Edgin's wish and decisions about his wife. This was a DnD campaign. Resurrection is expensive and a pain, but it's a thing that happens, the only issue is Faerun lore about other planes, let's move on.
Last thing I'll talk about is the characters themselves. This was such good casting, and I love the characters and how they're embodied.
I love Holga's unapologetic dumb muscle and how much heart she had. (Side note, Bradley Cooper's cameo was wonderful and heartwrenching and that whole mini-arc is going to quietly stay in my heart for a long while)(Side-side note, I love Bradley Cooper so much more as a supporting character actor than a lead. He's SO GOOD at what he does but lead characters make his arcs overwrought)
I love Simon and Doric's blunt, awkward style and how you can tell they'll work well together but would be hopeless without Edgin's charm and energy to guide them.
I love Edgin, and I LOVE Edgin played by Chris Pine, who balances that charm and quiet desperation and arrogance into one perfect BARD. He was SUCH a BARD, even though he was missing the magic and lore (yeah... Simon fails saves, Edgin fails knowledge checks all. the. time. His dice hate the lore and it's absolutely a running joke at the table). His personality was just embodied Harper bard and it was perfect.
I love Hugh Grant's villain era because I actually find it a very natural evolution of his typecasting. But more than anything, I love that Forge isn't and never was actually evil. He's Neutral. He's selfish and willing to do either good or bad to achieve his goals. He didn't really want his friends to die, and you know, the overall outcome of the scheme was regrettable, but he would get away with money, love, and his life, so... -shrug- And Hugh Grant plays that so well. He's so dry and deadpan and you're never sure whether he's making fun of you or not, and it just works. So it's Nice. I like it. Nice.
But yeah! I could ramble about the things I loved for days, and there are certainly things I would have preferred, but this was actually a really good, really fun movie using DnD rules and tropes.
Good game, Paramount. Well done.

Every movie I watched in March ranked and reviewed
ok this is a long list and idk if I'm gonna do this every month but here we go! (also summary is in the tags if you just want to see the ranking for whatever reason.)
17. Baghead (2023)
Tumblr media
I watched this with my friend in an almost empty theater on a Wednesday afternoon and it was the funniest theatrical experience I've ever had. Movie sucks don't watch it. 2/10
16. The Help (2011)
Tumblr media
Alright before I say anything, I really wanted to like this film. I thought everything about it was pretty good aside from the script, which was so shallow and insincere that I just couldn't connect with it. It's not bad, I just wish it did more. 4/10
15. A Star is Born (2018)
Tumblr media
Kind of the same problems I had with The Help. Just an average movie that feels insincere and like it's trying too hard to be an academy darling. 5/10
14. The Little Mermaid / Русалочка (1976)
Tumblr media
I'm gonna be real for a second, I didn't mean to watch this . I wanted to watch the Czech film from the same year but me (dumbass who can't tell the difference between Russian and Czech) didn't realize I was watching the wrong film. Anyways it was fine. 5/10
13. Eraserhead (1977)
Tumblr media
I think movies with shorts scripts just irritate me. I love the atmosphere and the effects and what little script there is is fantastic, but this should've been a 50 minute short film at most. 6/10
12. Immaculate (2024)
Tumblr media
This movie has a lot of potential and I think Sydney Sweeney is a very talented actress who seems to be a promising producer, but its first act really drags it down for me. As it goes on it gets much weirder and relies less on cheap jump scares which I really like. It's worth seeing in my opinion. 6/10
11. But I'm a Cheerleader (1999)
Tumblr media
I don't really know how to word my thoughts on this movie, but I enjoyed it. Some of the performances and parts of the script are corny and it's not exactly incredible, but it succeeds as a queer chick flick. 7/10
10. Dogtooth / Κυνόδοντας (2009)
Tumblr media
This might become a bit of a trend, but I really can't explain how I feel about this film. Please read the IMDB parents guide before watching it for any tws necessary (that applies to most of the films on this list so if they look interesting, check the parents guide or ask me for a list of cws.) 7/10
9. Donkey Skin / Peau d'âne (1970)
Tumblr media
Silly and whimsical fairytale movie. Such an enjoyable little film. It's a little slow in some parts but it's very effective at capturing the feeling of a fairytale. 7/10
8. Dune: Part Two (2024)
Tumblr media
Ok I know it's unpopular to say that this is worse than the first one but the first like 20 minutes had a shockingly bad script for no reason? The movie gets definitely gets good but that first just was so forced in its humor and genuinely kind of baffling writing wise that it dragged it down. Great movie, just weakened by a lame opening. Also I watched this twice this month. 8/10
7. Blue Velvet (1986)
Tumblr media
This film is so cool oh my god. It's slightly repetitive in some scenes, and not in an intentional way, but other than that it's very interesting and it's a very captivating mystery. I watched this film without knowing anything about it and I recommend going in completely blind like I did. 8/10
6. Naked Lunch (1991)
Tumblr media
What the fuck??? 8/10
5. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)
Tumblr media
I can't really explain what I like about this movie other than it's just a good movie. It's a little too long and it's a bit unintentionally confusing but genuinely amazing even with those minor flaws. 8/10
4. Dune (2021)
Tumblr media
This movie is so yummy. Everyone I've talked to hates that it's a serious political drama but that's what I love about it and the fact that the sequel kind of gets rid of that stuff was a bummer. Incredible effects and just amazing cinematography. I watched this three times this month btw. (Also side note, this poster is fucking atrocious.) 9/10
3. Anatomy of a Fall (2023)
Tumblr media
Such an insanely good courtroom drama. Every scene is interesting and there aren't any parts where I was confused or bored. Incredibly well paced. 9/10
2. The Young Girls of Rochefort / Les demoiselles de Rochefort (1967)
Tumblr media
La La Land if it was good. 10/10
1. The Zone of Interest (2023)
Tumblr media
I don't think I'll ever be able to put into words how this movie makes me feel. Please go check it out and watch Jonathan Glazer's Oscar speech. 10/10
