Heyyy so is it possible for you to write like an epilogue for 'stardust' where Dao has grown a bit and Akk and Ayan have some disagreements on how to teach him disciplines , but they work it out? I just can't stop thinking about their cute family☺️ tysm
Stardust, my beloved. I originally wasn’t sure I’d be able to answer this prompt because y’all always ask for angst and it makes my heart hurt, but then I thought of this idea and became obsessed. I hope you enjoy! Word Count: 2K
For obvious reasons, Dao had always had a fascination with the stars. Ever since he was a baby, whenever they would step outside, his face would turn skyward. His obsession had only grown as he got older and realized the stars were capable of telling him stories—that if he cared to look, they held all the mysteries of the universe inside them.
Now, their house was full of books and diagrams about space and although Akk found Dao’s hyperfixation endearing, it also worried him. Dao had been in their life for almost eight years and never shown any signs of being anything but human, but Akk couldn’t help but wonder if their son’s craving for knowledge about the stars was a sign that he was meant to return to them someday.
One evening, Akk returned home from work and instead of Dao greeting him at the door like he usually did, his excited voice carried in from the kitchen. Akk headed that way, nearly tripping over Cosmo who had darted in front of him in what he could only assume was a murder attempt, and when he finally reached the kitchen, he just stood in the doorway for a few seconds and watched as his husband cooked dinner and their son talked a mile a minute about comets…or something. Dao’s knowledge of space had far outpaced Akk’s by this point. He was going to have to take a class to catch up.
Figuring he should probably step in to save Aye from the rambling, Akk moved into the room. “I’m home!” he said. Aye turned to smile at him over his shoulder and Akk kissed the top of his head before bending down to ruffle Dao’s hair.
“Dad! Dad!” Dao cried excitedly, smoothing his hair down out of habit. It didn’t do much to help. He had the same cow lick Aye had had at that age and nothing they did seemed to be able to control it. “My class is going on a field trip to the observatory to watch a meteor shower!”
Akk immediately tensed, but he did his best to hide the concern from his face because Dao seemed so excited and Aye was smiling down at him like he wasn’t worried at all.
“You are?” Akk asked, his voice several octaves higher than usual. Aye turned to him in alarm, finally seeming to sense that something was wrong.
“Yeah!” Dao cried and then he was off again, talking about different types of meteor showers and how he’d been dying to see one forever, and Akk just stood there in a state of shock.
“Hey, buddy?” Aye interrupted the boy’s tangent. Dao turned to him, eyebrows raised in silent question. “Dinner’s almost ready. Why don’t you go get changed and we’ll eat when you’re done?”
The only thing Dao loved more than stars was food.
“Okay!” he cried and then he scooped up a picture book he had been flipping through on Jupiter and ran upstairs.
Aye waited until they could hear his footsteps above them before he spoke again. “What’s wrong with you?” he asked, laughing lightly. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
“He can’t go on that field trip, Aye,” Akk said adamantly. “It’s not safe.”
Aye turned his back on the meat he was browning on the stove and leaned against the counter behind him with his arms crossed over his chest. “Why not? His teachers will be there. And it’s not like he’s going to wander off—not when the place has telescopes. I just ordered him a new one for his birthday by the way. I’m not even going to tell you how much it cost.”
“Aye,” Akk said, stepping closer. “A shooting star is what brought him here and it’s what can take him back. What if he wishes to go to space? To the stars? How do we know our wishes will keep him here if he asks to go?”
“He’s just a kid, Akk. He doesn’t want to leave. He just wants to learn more about where he came from.” They had never bothered hiding the truth from Dao. They figured plenty of parents told their kids outlandish stories about where they came from—storks and enchanted cabbage patches and babies washed in by the sea. No one would think twice if they heard Dao saying he came from the stars. It was part of his story and he deserved to know it.
“You don’t know that,” Akk countered.
“If we tell him he can’t go on that field trip, it’s going to break his heart,” Aye said with a heavy sigh. Akk knew that was true, but it was a risk he was willing to take.
“I’ll tell him,” he said. “I’ll be the bad guy.”
Aye turned back around to give the ground beef another stir. “Before you do that, how about the three of us go stargazing tonight? There’s no meteor shower, so you don’t have to worry about any errant wishes. We can talk to him, feel it out. Please. Before you say no.”
And although Akk was reluctant, he finally agreed. Aye turned around to smile at him. While he was distracted, Cosmo hopped onto the counter, stole a chunk of ground beef out of the skillet, and then ran away, all before Aye ever saw him.
Dao was overjoyed when Aye told him they were going to camp out underneath the stars that night. He scarfed down his dinner much too quickly and then was bouncing off the walls until finally, Akk and Aye gave up on cleaning the kitchen and led him out into the night.
Aye threw a blanket onto the ground and the three of them laid down together, Akk and Aye each on one side of their son. Cosmo, who had followed them out of the house, curled up on Dao’s stomach and when the boy’s fingers tangled in his fur, he purred.
“Oh, look! Look at that one!” Dao cried, pointing at a star that looked just the same as any other star in the sky. He began telling a story about it that he had learned in one of his books and Akk couldn’t help but wonder if he’d just picked a star at random to assign that story to or if something inside of him knew.
Akk glanced over at Dao. He looked different in the moonlight. The lightning-shaped fractals on the left side of his body, which were almost invisible in the daytime, came alive at night. They shone with a pearlescent glow as if some stardust still lingered in his veins. It wasn’t vibrant enough for anyone outside their family to notice, but some nights, Akk would stare at his son’s skin for hours. It was beautiful and haunting all at once. The night called to their star child just as their star child called to it.
“I came from up there, didn’t I, Pa? Tell me the story again!”
And so Aye retold the legend of Dao’s birth. The words were well-practiced by now. The two of them had perfected their delivery over the years and no matter how many times they told it, the magic never faded.
“Once upon a time, Dad and I had a big fight and although we still loved each other, neither of us had the courage to apologize. So instead, we each made a wish on a shooting star that the universe would bring us back together. And then the universe sent us you.”
Dao giggled just like he did every time. “And thanks to me, you made up?”
“We did,” Aye agreed, leaning over to kiss the top of his head.
“What were you fighting about?” Dao asked, looking back and forth between the two of them as if he wasn’t quite sure who to ask.
“You know, I can’t seem to remember,” Aye said, feigning ignorance as he turned to glare pointedly at Akk. “What about you, Akk?”
Akk rolled his eyes. Had he not apologized enough? “Something stupid, I’m sure,” he said.
“Something stupid indeed.”
Dao quickly lost interest in their conversation and turned back to the stars again. “Do you think if I asked a shooting star for something, it would give it to me like it did for you?”
“I don’t know,” Aye said, glancing at Akk because that was, after all, exactly what he feared. “Maybe. That’s why you need to be careful what you wish for.”
“If you ask to see the stars up close, the universe might not let you come back,” Akk said. “Do you understand?”
He was a little worried his words might frighten Dao, but luckily, he didn’t seem bothered by the prospect of being whisked away to the heavens and never returned. Instead, he laughed.
“Why would I ask to go to space?” he chuckled, looking over at Akk as if he’d said something utterly ridiculous. “I don’t even have a space suit!”
That wasn’t the answer Akk had been expecting. “What do you want to wish for then?” he asked.
A mischievous grin appeared on Dao’s face, but he tried his best to hide it in Cosmo’s fur. Well, that wasn’t worrying at all. Akk and Aye exchanged a look.
“Dao, honey,” Aye said. “Why don’t you tell us what you want and maybe we can get it for you?”
“You can’t give it to me,” Dao insisted. “Only the stars can.”
Akk shook his head, still not understanding. “But what is it?”
Finally, it seemed Dao could keep the secret locked inside him no longer. He released Cosmo and giggled. “I want a little sister!”
“Oh.” Akk didn’t know what to say other than that. It was both better and worse than what he had expected.
“I think we’ve got our hands full with just you,” Aye said after a brief pause, ruffling Dao’s hair to soften his words. Then all three of them turned their attention back to the sky.
It was over an hour later before Dao agreed to come back inside. Aye finished cleaning the kitchen while Akk took Dao upstairs to get him ready for bed, and then together they tucked him in. He wasn’t scared of the dark like a lot of kids his age. He didn’t need a nightlight. Once they turned the lamp off, the only light in the room was a faint green glow emanating from the glow-in-the-dark stars on his ceiling. He was asleep almost before his head even hit the pillow.
It wasn’t until Akk and Aye themselves crawled into bed that night that they talked about it.
“Maybe you were right,” Aye said with a small laugh. “Maybe we shouldn’t let him go. Those shooting stars can be dangerous.”
But Akk couldn’t stop thinking about a little girl with Aye’s curls, Akk’s eyes, and Dao’s chubby little cheeks. Aye seemed to realize that.
“Akk,” he warned.
“Would it really be so bad?” Akk asked. “We’ve talked about having another kid.”
“Yeah. In a normal way. Not via shooting star!”
“But what would it hurt to try? You, me, and Dao wishing all at once…It just might work!”
Aye stared at him as if trying to decide whether he was joking. “You’re serious?” he asked, his voice achingly hopeful.
Akk nodded and took Aye’s hands into his. “What do you say? You think we have another miracle left in us?”
Ever so slowly, a smile stretched across Aye’s face. “A baby girl?” he asked and Akk could tell that he had already fallen in love with the idea of her, just like he had.
Dao didn’t end up going on his field trip. Instead, the three of them stayed home and wished together upon a shooting star that the universe would make their family whole.
There was a flash of lightning, a buzz of electricity that made their hair stand on end, and then, in the distance, the sound of a baby crying.

Can we take a moment to appreciate how many hats SWK manages to keep crammed on his head in lmk?
That man was doomed by the narrative, is mourned by the narrative, is and was haunted by the narrative AND is haunting the narrative, all at the same time! And lmk isn’t his story, and he doesn’t think of it as his story, and he doesn’t want it to be his story, but it’s also exactly his story, just a little to the left, and he is trying to remove himself from this new story, but also can't escape it because this isn't his story but also it is, and he's taking steps to ensure this don’t end up like his story, and is accidentally contributing to problems that are making it like his story all over again as a result. What a character!
To quote Anne Carson,
"To live past the end of your myth is a perilous thing".
I think, strangely enough, most characters in Lego Monkie Kid are living past the end of their myth (jttw). You have Wukong who is the only original pilgrim still alive and around, you have Tang, Mei, Pigsy, and Sandy who are all reincarnations of the pilgrims (supposedly), and then you have all the antagonists who try and continue their stories in their own way. DBK was freed from under the mountain, almost killing his wife and son in his continued pursuit of world domination. LBD escaped her prison early, continuing her plan for a perfect world which ended in her defeat, her end. Spider Queen refused to accept the end of her empire, and ultimately was killed by LBD for it. Azure Lion had been sealed in the scroll, and after being released immediately tried to continue his rebellion, his hubris, martyrdom, and refusal to change becoming his downfall.
I think in Wukong's own way, he does something similar—falling into old habits and becoming his own undoing. His search for the samadhi fire was exactly what Macaque was upset about in the 4x11 argument:
"You're the one always running off! Searching for more power, or more sources of immortality: you're the one who wouldn't quit while we were ahead!"
MK earlier in the special makes the point "Why didn't he just stop, right here? He was already so much stronger than anyone ever needed to be." to which Macaque replies, "Wukong didn't think so, he always thought he had to be stronger—more immortal." And that's what he does in s2 isn't it? He still isn't strong enough. He can't defeat LBD, so he has to go find the power that will make him strong enough to do just that—and Wukong finds the samadhi fire. Which in turn leaves MK behind, and has him relive his life's story again.
Like, this dude is CRAZZZYYYY

One's Dazzling Light - Ruikasa Week 2024
Day4: Fantasy
Tumblr media
Rui always thought that the world was cruel. That happiness doesn't exist in his play of life. The curtain rose to reveal a dark wood where he lived since he was born. A poor peasant couple; the toy maker husband and the housewife. In a world where magic surrounded the air, what could a pair of magicless humans do?
Neither of them could raise a child of magic. Not just any magic; the Pure Darkness. A magic of jinx and curse. A magic that could bring ruin to the world.
A magic bestowed on the only son of the poor Kamishiro family.
His parents tried their best. They did. They loved him more than anything in the world and he lived him back. His father taught him about crafts and his mother taught him about flowers.
But Rui was a child. A lone child who only wants friends.
And yet no children his age wanted to step onto his stage. They shun him for having the cursed magic. He could count on one hand the children who eventually accept him the way he is; a shy mermaid named Nene who accidentally swam too close to the beach when he was practicing and a knight-in-training named Mizuki who had been outcasted for being too feminine.
Those four people are the people Rui kept close to his heart.
And the world decided to take them away almost immediately.
"I got accepted!" Nene said to him, happy tears streaming down her cheeks. "Phoenix Orchestra. I get to sing and travel the world."
He didn't have the heart to beg her to stay.
"I'm going to the Knight Academy next year," Mizuki said to him. "Do you want to join in as well?"
He just shook his head, knowing he had no place there.
"We'll be home in just a week, okay kiddo?" His father ruffled his hair.
"Don't forget that we love you." His mother kissed his forehead.
They never came home. Their carriage was attacked. It was not an accident, Rui knew that. The punishment of being the parent of a cursed child.
They tried to kill him as well, but a burning house could never hurt him. He sent it back to them, burning them to the bone. After all, Pure Darkness magic could increase misfortune. Perhaps he accidentally cast it upon himself. But he no longer cares.
If the world tries to kill him, then he'll destroy them first with his own hand.
"I understand you," the spotlight shone upon a lady in black with pink hair who smelled like death. She offered a hand toward him. "There are many who seek justice, to restart the world with a blank canvas. With your power, we shall bring salvation to those who seek."
"What must I do?"
"There are people who are the opposite of you; four people hold the power of Pure Light. Find them, bring them to me, and with the power of Pure Darkness, we shall create a Utopia."
Rui, who has nothing left to lose and a desire to see the world crumble, took the hand.
The title 'Alchemist' was bestowed upon him.
The world trembled before his title despite never seeing his true appearance for his illusion magic. In his search for those Pure Light, he brought judgment upon evil. Those who commit crimes will receive punishment from him. Those who wish for revenge upon their enemies, he shall fulfill it. The true Utopia may not come sooner, but he shall bring a little salvation to the people.
*****
In the small provincial town of Phenny, Rui had found one of the Lights. He had sensed a shift in magic the moment he stepped into the town. It was warm, inviting, peaceful... It was everything that Rui wasn't. A Pure Light, such presence they had.
It brought him to an inn. Rather crowded this late in the evening, filled with drunkards and knights off-shift. Rui schruched up hin nose. Could the Light possibly be here in this lowly place?
"Rui? Is that you?"
Rui turned toward the voice and saw a familiar pinknette, now dressed in a silver uniform. "Mizuki..."
"Hey, man!" Mizuki ran toward him, not hesitating to hug him. "It has been a while!"
"I thought you were still studying at the Knight Academy."
"I am. I'm in my final year, so we had a one-year service thing."
"Who are you servicing to?"
"Oh, just some guy." Mizuki didn't look at him as they waved their hand nonchalantly. A gesture of avoidance. They were hiding something and Rui had his guesses.
"Mizuki!"
There it was. A Pure Light walking toward them. Taking a figure of a young man dressed in simple, yet elegant, clothes at the same time; a suit, blue hat, a bow as a tie, and a coat over its shoulder with constellations. Hair as gold as sunset and eyes that shine with innocence.
The Light widened its eyes. "O-Oh. Hello! Are you a friend of Mizuki?"
"You can say that." Rui smiled just for pleasantry. "I'm Kamishiro Rui. And who might you be?"
"Tenma Tsukasa. But you can call me Tsukasa." It offered its hand and Rui took it. Such power radiated from that hand, sending shivers down their spines. "Are you a traveler?"
"You can say that."
It smiled. "Well, I hope we see each other around."
For a prey to invite its predator into its nest, perhaps the Light was more gullible than Rui thought it was.
*****
Passing Akito's room, he could hear the sound of him humming. It wasn't an unusual occurrence, the Wanderer is often one who announces his presence with either a whistle or a caw of his eagle.
This melody, however, sounded more cheerful, more passionate, and filled with excitement.
"What are you humming about?"
Akito raised his eyebrow from his spot on his bed. Book perched on a thigh and a pencil in his hand. "Why do you care?"
"Just curious."
Akito rolled his eyes and looked back to his book before writing something. When Rui thought he had decided to ignore him, Akito said, "It's just something Kohane taught me."
"Kohane?"
He paused. His gaze shifted to avoid Rui. "I mean, the Light."
Rui chuckled. "Oh, aren't you getting too chummy with it?"
"Shut up. It just happens we have the same interest."
He jumped off his bed and pulled his hood. "Where are you going?" Rui asked when Akito walked past him.
"Meeting-" He stopped himself. "I mean, keeping an eye on Kohane."
"Sure you are."
For a Darkness and Light to be friends...
How ridiculous.
*****
Phoenix Orchestra arrived at Phenny. It was said that this small town was the birthplace of the most well-known orchestra in the entire country. The same orchestra that Nene joined. Thus their reunion happened in Phenny.
"Rui!" Nene was never one with physical contact, but she leaped into his arms. Even in his cold heart, Rui couldn't deny returning it. "It has been too long."
"I'm glad I can see you again."
"Me too." Nene pulled back. "Oh! I need to introduce you to someone!" She pulled him toward a small pinknette with a smile so wide. "This is Emu. She's the daughter of the head orchestra."
"Hello!" Emu took Rui's hands and shook them hard. "It's nice to meet you! Nene told me a lot about you!"
"She did?"
"Yup! I would love to get to know you!"
Rui couldn't help but chuckle. "Likewise."
"Oh! Oh! Now it's my turn to introduce you to my friend!" She pulled them toward the inn where Rui was now staying. And upon entering, he could hear the sound of a piano. A beautiful melody; soft and inviting. The Light sat there, eyes closed and smiling softly. Fingers glided down the keys, foot pressed the pedal to a ringing tone. A harmony that left Rui speechless.
"It's just something Kohane taught me."
Was this what Akito felt when he met his Light? To hold a melody close to his heart and cause a change of heart.
When the piano stopped, Rui craved for more.
"Tsukasa!" Emu leaped into Tsukasa's arms, almost causing him to fall from his seat.
"Emu! I didn't know you were coming back."
"We'll be here for a couple of months! Keisuke is thinking of holding another audition soon. You should try in."
Light smiled and patted Emu's head. "I'll think about it."
"But you always said that!" Emu pouted.
"It's a hard decision, Emu."
"And why is that? If I may ask," Rui asked.
Light looked at him. His gaze softened and sighed. "I have a personal reason. I don't want to be a bother."
"You'll never be a bother," Emu said again. "Everyone will love you. I just know it! You'll be a star! Don't you want that?"
"I did." He sighed again. "But that was just a phase, Emu."
Emu stared at him with a slight sadness and Rui was curious about that answer.
Thus, when one night came as Emu, Nene, and Mizuki hung around at one table, Rui walked up to the piano where Light was playing once again. Even after a couple of times listening, Rui could say that he was quickly attached to Light's playing.
"What do you mean 'it was just a phase' last time?"
Light smiled. There was a hint of melancholy in his gaze. "I always know my time is limited. I can't let myself indulge in dreams." He glanced at him. "Aren't you here to take it away quicker from me?"
Rui hummed. "So, you know."
"Pure Light and Pure Darkness always resonate with each other. I've never met with you fellow, but I had sensed you the moment you arrived here."
"Are you going to fight me for your life?"
Light paused his playing. "Tell me, Rui." He fully looked at him. "Do you know what it means to bring salvation to the world?"
Rui didn't answer. The question haunted him in his sleep.
*****
"Rui, do you think we're doing the right thing?" Shizuku had asked him one day.
Rui turned to her. "What do you mean?"
Among the four of them, Shizuku had always been the most compassionate. She loves humanity, which includes her sister who she hadn't seen for a long time. The secret of her being the Pure Darkness was spoken and the guilt of leaving her sister behind always burdens her.
"Minori told me," Minori was the name of the Light assigned to her, wasn't it? "that maybe we're heading to a decision that we couldn't go back anymore."
"We are aiming for a Utopia. It's only normal that once the world is rewritten, everything won't be the same."
"I know that." She looked at her hand as Pure Darkness danced between her fingertips. "But still." She brought up her hand to her chest and smiled. It wasn't like the cold smile of the Songstress who charmed her victims. But it was Shizuku's smile; a smile filled with warmth. "I think I want to try to live in this world with her for now."
*****
The Light - Tsukasa - stood in the middle of the plaza, surrounded by children. There was a hint of jealousy blooming in Rui's heart. How funny that he hates the sight of children playing around him. He had gotten close these few days under a self-reassurance of building trust. His conversations with Tsukasa about their daily days were pleasant. In the evening, Tsukasa would play at the bar for his part-time job. Rui had asked once why he even bothered to have a job. Tsukasa just answered with, "I just want to experience life."
That was also a thing that Rui was confused about: the desire to live. Rui had given up on life for he had nothing else to do other than wait for salvation Lady Death would bring. Watching Tsukasa going on with his daily life (buying cute stuff for Mizuki with his own money, attending Nene and Emu's rehearsal, inviting Rui for stargazing), Rui wondered if he could do this as well in the new world. Perhaps, if he ever met Tsukasa again, they could live together and experience it.
...
What was that thought again?
"Do the magic, Big Brother Tsukasa!" One of the kids cheered. "Do the magic!"
Tsukasa giggled. "Alright, alright." Tsukasa looked up to Rui, smiling and offering a hand. "Come and give me a hand, Rui."
Rui frowned. "Me?"
"Yeah, come on." Tsukasa skipped to pull Tsukasa into the circle.
"Is he magic too?" One of the kids asked.
Tsukasa nodded. "Yeah, and a great one." He turned to Rui, still smiling at him.
"Are you sure?" Rui whispered. "Pure Darkness brings destruction."
"And Pure Light brings creation." Tsukasa opened his palm and Rui's keen eyes could see magic dancing on his palm. "When combine..." Tsukasa brought Rui's hand closer. "A miracle can be created."
Their hands joined together and Rui could feel their magic intertwined. It felt so right. The wind picked up underneath their feet, fluttering Tsukasa's coat and Rui's robe, carrying white and black feathers. The children cheered from the spectacles. When they reached for the feather, it burst into fireworks and bubbles.
It was beautiful...
A feather landed on Tsukasa's head and it burst into bubbles. Tsukasa giggled and Rui's heart skipped a beat.
*****
"Luka, I don't want to do this anymore."
Lady Death didn't even look surprised when Mafuyu stood up from her seat. The table felt so empty after Akito and Shizuku's departure, leaving only a pot of a single black lily in their seat.
"Kanade had told me everything. You lied to us."
"You trust the Light more than me?" Luka commented.
"You never told us anything about sacrificing us all!"
"What?" Rui looked between the two. "Mafuyu what are you talking about?"
Mafuyu turned to him. The Marionette had always been emotionless, but at the moment Rui could see the great anguish in Mafuyu's eyes. "In order to create a new world, you need to destroy the first world before creating the new one. If Pure Light is the power of creation, what is needed for the destruction?"
"Darkness? We already know that Mafuyu-"
"The Pure Darkness is tied with our own soul. The same goes for the Pure Light to Kanade's. Once magic tied with one's soul, it became harder to extract." She turned back to Luka, glaring at her. "Any attempt of extracting Pure Darkness or Pure Light won't only result in death, but also the erasure of our existence."
What?
"What... What are you saying?"
"We won't be able to enjoy this Utopia is we disappear for good!" Mafuyu curled her fingers into a fist. "The only one winning here is Luka! She's just using us to get all the Pure Light and later killing us to get the Pure Darkness!"
No...
"Luka..." Rui stared at her. "Tell me this is not true... We're not going to die, right?"
Luka never answered them. But her silence was enough.
"I don't want to die..." Mafuyu lowered her head. Rui couldn't see her face, but he knew the devastation feeling she felt. "I don't want to leave Kanade... She's the only one I have..."
*****
"Sacrifices need to be made to reach one seemingly impossible goal," Tsukasa said as they stared into the sunset from the hill of white lilies. It was a secret place that even Mizuki wasn't told about. And yet Tsukasa showed it to Rui out of all people. "Four Light. Four Darkness. For one utopia that we won't be able to enjoy. Is it worth it?"
Rui turned to look at him. "Are you saying it's better just to let evil roam around this Earth?"
"No." Tsukasa shook his head. "Evil can't roam freely if law and order exist is being held up high." He looked up to the orange sky. "If a Utopia is a paraside where people can do whatever they want, then what's stopping them from doing evil again? Light and Darkness, good and evil, will always be there. One cannot be there without the other. How can one judge that something is evil if good doesn't exist? How can you say you've done a good deed if you don't know what evil doings are?"
"So, what do you suggest?"
"It's a tough question." He reached to snap a lily of its stem, bringing it closer to his nose to smell the scent. "But I don't think bringing the end of the world is a good solution." He giggled. "I still love this world and the people in it."
Tsukasa looked at him with a smile as soft as the sunset as he tucked the lily behind Rui's ear. His fingers lingered on his cheeks for a second too long. Rui caught his fingers, pressing Tsukasa's palm onto his cheek as he kissed it.
"I don't want to die," Tsukasa whispered.
"I won't let you," Rui answered. He leaned into Tsukasa's face and pressed their lips together.
He understood now. He understood why Akito resonated with Kohane's music, why Shizuku wanted to live together with Minori, and why even the thought of leaving Kanade brought Mafuyu to tears.
Rui always thought that the world was cruel. But the simple action from Tsukasa, his Light, made him want to stay in this world together with him.
*****
The city was empty when Rui arrived and immediately he felt dread.
Luka is here.
No no no no no.
Rui ran.
She wasn't supposed to be here. She wasn't supposed to be here!
The inn was empty when he barged in. Not even the sound of the creaking window. The bartender who usually already working on his order, was nowhere to be seen. Rui could feel the darkness coming from upstairs inviting him, challenging him.
Rui ran up and slammed the door open.
There, under the moonlight that shone through the window, Luka stood in the middle of the room. With an unconscious Tsukasa in her arms.
"You really think I would let walk out of our deal that easily?" She smiled at him. "Out of all the Pure Darkness, you were the last person I expected to betray me. I guess all those big talks about hating the world are just for shows."
"Luka..." Rui knew he had the power and yet he felt utterly hopeless under the gaze of Lady Death herself. "Let him go."
"Didn't I tell you?" Luka glanced down at Tsukasa, eyes gleaming with greed. "We need the Pure Light if we ever going to create Utopia."
"But you also need us Pure Darkness."
"That's true. But you'll come." She stepped back, separating Tsukasa from Rui even further. And Rui couldn't even lift a finger. "You will all come. All of you are attached to those Lights. And I'll be taking everything."
A portal appeared as the wind picked up again. Rui could feel the world shift, returning to its original form before being visited by death herself.
And Tsukasa slowly opened his eyes, dazed. He didn't even register that he had been captured. All he knew was that Rui was standing there, just a few feet away from him. "Rui..."
He reached out for him. And Rui snapped as if a freezing spell was finally being lifted from him.
"TSUKASA!" He ran toward the pair, arm stretched to reach his Light. But before he could even graze a finger, Tsukasa was gone.
He's gone.
Tsukasa's gone.
Luka caught him.
He's going to die.
All because of Rui.
"Rui!" He didn't even realize Nene was there, clutching his shoulder and shaking him, because Tsukasa was gone. Luka has Tsukasa. He's gone. Rui couldn't stop her. She's gone with Tsukasa.
"We'll find him." Nene clasped his cheeks, grounding him. "We'll bring Tsukasa back."
Bring Tsukasa back...?
"We'll bring him back." Mizuki knelt beside him, hand on his shoulder. Emu gave him a determined nod. "Not just to stop the end of the world."
Right. They can Tsukasa back.
Rui looked at his hand. A hand that could bring disaster with his magic. But Tsukasa believes that he's a good person, even if his hand is cursed.
Rui would believe him. He clenched his fingers into a fist, feeling Pure Darkness flowing in him.
"Wait for me, Tsukasa…"

Content warning: main character death, cannibalism, gore, toxic/unreliable narrator, highly canon divergent character portrayal. Read at your own risk. You will probably take psychic damage from this.
╳┆A lure was stuck in the soot between his lungs. Many times he'd felt the tug — enough that the wire fray had worn a rut where his ribs met — and many times he'd found her on the other end, reeling for remnants of him that no longer existed. She would aim to break him open, sift around in the cinders for those specks of him she wanted to confiscate, keep for herself, so that she could finally be rid of him. Once those flecks were washed and panned, the remains would reek like plough mud closure. For that reason he would come to her whole, every whit of ash accounted for.
A cherry little game they'd play. Her with flint and steel, eager to reignite that paltry spark of "good" that flickered freely for a lapse before he remembered himself. Him with tinder and kindling, letting it light only to call on the rain again. Her with just enough hope. Him with just enough time.
That resolve was so very compelling. More than her beauty, her candor, and even that glow he so loved to bask in — that luster he wanted to hold between his teeth and bury under his nails — more than that, her tenacity was a toothsome temptation, and he wasn't keen to deny himself anything.
So when he felt the pull, he caved to the beck and spooled the lisle. That day, the line seemed lighter, thinner, than it ever had. It should've been strong. Tensile. Instead it felt gossamer fine and just as frail, poised to tear at an ill touch, and he wasn’t exactly renowned for his gentle hands. Still, he gathered it with both palms and wrapped it proudly around himself like a ceremonial sash, grin scrawled across his face something devilish.
╳┆He found her lying in the shade beneath a long-lived magnolia, still and silent as she never was, with the color of her namesake spread around her head in halo streaks. Battle-torn, as she so often was, and yet uncannily... passive.
Anything he'd planned to say went out the airlock. Instead, he stood there with an anchor in his stomach, reaping the benefit of doubt.
Not a frown nor a sigh when he darkened her sanctum, only heavenward eyes tearless and unblinking and a resigned breath just short of peaceful. That worn tether waned phantom thin, light as helium, and the tension in his chest went slack.
There was no definite snap. No dramatic severing or ear-popping moment of clarity. Only the vague sense of loss so fresh a wound that denial was a numbing salve.
“Get up,” his voice a command, sandgrit against whetstone, thickened by an unnamed antigen.
The silence felt like mockery. A placid scene void of chittering fauna, clouds' drum, or even the most timid breeze. It wanted him to hear the absence of her breath and the stillness of her chest. It wanted him to hear the hollow. The empty. The nothing. Wanted it to resonate; to find the furthest reaches of his mind and clean them out until all that was left was this icy, clarifying silence.
He knew the end when he saw it. This was something much worse. It was robbery.
Her life wasn’t for the world to take. It was for him to hold in his hands.
Something wet and pathetic slicked his tongue — some whiny, pleading thing — and it was stubborn as oil. The authority slid to the back of his throat and left him choking, “You are the indomitable Titania. You’ve laced fingers with Death time and again only to rise and slay and conquer, so get up.”
Her warmth was set to a slow drip, spilling from her in tired beads and seeping soundlessly into her chosen ground. Little whispers of her lost to greedy loam, sullied, never to be returned.
A waste of precious love. The sod won’t drink of her as he will. It will take of her and give back what? New “life” so fragile and fleeting? A feeble weed will take root, bloom its days few, and curl itself inside out? Pathetic. An insult to her legacy. An insult to the diamond-split sharp of her bladesoul.
His heart boiled over — popping, sticking, simmering sicksweet saccharine. It colored him cloying, flooded his mouth, and forced him to kneel at her altar.
"Please," he keened, hollow and morose, and his own pleading sickened him, “Say something.”
The sun trickled through the leaves like ichor, lighting up her black-blown eyes and the thin ring of honey surrounding them. Dim, distant, and dead as the moon.
His hand carved a path to her face, fingers featherlight against her fading flush. He brushed her bangs from her eyes and forced an unbroken breath through his quavering mouth. He traced each scar too faint to see and the parts of her skin their star kissed. Memorized the map of her face — each curve and crease, each fine hair, and every eyelash. He would carve out a space in his mind in her shape and fill it with the thousand sweet nothings he kept in his pockets.
He gathered her hand and threaded it with his own. When he opened his mouth, a rickety twine escaped from the deepest point of his chest, so he forced his jaws shut to keep the grief corked. He uncurled her fingers and pressed his cheek into her palm, trapping her there against his own scarred skin. His eyes fell shut as he breathed in this borrowed touch — this moment fated, stolen from him by this world's insatiable avarice.
He kissed her palm directly in the center; held it against his mouth and felt his own ruined breath echo back to him from the deepest grooves of her skin. Again, he begged, “Please, Erza.”
Of the armors innumerable now haunting this hallowed ground, this one least befit her.
He revered Death. If there was a god, surely it was Death, he thought, for Death asks for nothing but life. The dead don’t know that they’re dead. They know a split second of euphoria and then a sharp, definite end. Isn’t that the work of a gracious god? One last stroke of color whether in peace or peril, and then eternal rest. Back to the dust you sprouted from.
But now he couldn’t see any of that beauty he often waxed poetic about. All he could see was change yet to come. All he could see was her, and he wanted her back.
He wanted her back, yet he knew better than anyone that there was no such thing as resurrection. While Death might be gracious, it was not generous, and it was not to be reasoned with.
The thought of her buried deep, bathed by the dark and abandoned to rot — it washed his mouth acid sour. It ate straight through his tongue and lingered in the roots of his teeth, burning, raging redhot in his jaws’ marrow.  A grave didn't suit her anymore than a pyre.
Soon she would be cold. Stiff. A feast for flies and their insatiable young. In the days to come, she would bubble and bloat and sallow. Her skin would loosen and slough off. The sun would bleach her bones. The meat of her would melt into oil and fat and bogspit. She would mix in with the soil, the groundwater, and this thankless magnolia would thrive.
It was tall, thick, with branches spread in all directions. The lowest of its limbs showed off the varied deep greens of its large waxy leaves, their undersides a chalky brown. A few white flowers bloomed, palm-shaped petals open in praise like they'd come to witness and worship. There was no question why she'd chosen to crawl here. It must've reminded her of home.
Despite its beauty, it was hardly worthy of her. Nothing in this ravenous world was. Her grave should be carved within his chest. There, he could keep her warm. He could host her in his veins. One day, they would wade the waters of woe together. Until then she could live under his skin.
He wouldn’t allow her to spoil. Wouldn’t place her gently into time’s whittlesome hands only to lose her peel by peel by rotting peel.
This world has taken much from you. Do not allow it to take her too.
A carnal ache etched itself into bone, a depth of passion he hadn't felt since he wrought for a false Heaven.
She is a fruit, ripe as a plum and twice the taste. Peel her open. There is a seed at her core. Plant it in your soot-field chest and watch her bloom anew.
What are these hands for if not this?
Flesh like sheets of silk. Muscle like rope. Blood like honey. Bone like an ivory trove. The splitting, the squelching, the straining, ripping, snapping; it burrowed marrow-deep and lingered there. Her chest peeled apart like jagged teeth, jaws croaking their rusted tune, and inside that redslick maw was the center of the universe.
The heart upon its throne, still as she, shielded by her precious lungs. It slid into his palm like it was always meant to be there. Raw, rich, and so very scarlet. Its sinews strained against his pull — those hollow vines that fed even the furthest parts of her — so he wrenched them free and draped himself in them like matchless finery.
Eat. Eat ‘til you’re sick. There’s a hole the size of her in the pit of your stomach. Eat until you fill it.
What are these teeth for if not this?
Tough as leather; smooth as rubber. His teeth slid right off the rind and clicked together with nothing but metallic sheen between them. He gnashed at that ink-dripping muscle until he found a spot weak enough to tear apart. It tasted of rare meat and iron; a heady gore thick enough to drown in. He swallowed, gasped, and that first new breath felt like a blade.
The child inside him saw her split-open ribs as his cradle. He wanted to crawl inside, curl up, and die. He wanted to paint himself her color.
He lost his vision to the hot, angry wash. His own sobs were a distant sound, muffled by meat and blood and his own desperate fingers. He was numb in the mouth and in the shake of his hands, but he forced himself to eat, eat despite the choking, the gagging, the wet, weeping remorse.
Don’t you dare throw her up. Be grateful. Swallow and say thank you and finish what you’ve started.
He bit into his own palm, indistinguishable from her core, and he cried out in sour relief. His hands spread raw grief over his face, through his hair, and down his neck.
You’re no better than this starving world.
He curled into himself, hands clutching his own aching chest, and despite the cloudless sky, he called upon the rain.

Summary:
“HOLY SH-” Miles and Gwen simultaneously turned to cover Pav’s mouth so as to not alert the creature in the middle of the carnage below them. The creature either didn’t hear him or it was too preoccupied with whatever it was doing. To his regret Miles soon realized what that was, as another wet snapping noise broke the silence once more. The creature was crouched down on all fours over what Miles assumed was the body of an officer, though it was so mutilated that it was hard to tell for sure. Its head was buried into the chest of the body beneath it, another wet snapping noise emerging as it pulled out a couple of ribs between its bloodied jaws... Or The Spider-Gang goes looking for Hobie. They don’t like what they find.
Hey guys, remember how I mentioned that I was working on a Venom!Hobie fic a while ago? Well the draft is done and so is the first chapter!

having thoughts about my friend julio in the miracle job, who we know best as the guy with the gun in his waistband. <3
like, okay, the "even gangsters recognise the sanctity of catholic priests" thing is…… problematic. just nodding towards that because I think it needs to be nodded towards.
but I love how little ego julio brings to the scene once the secret (that one of his people took a side job without telling him, a job he emphatically disapproves of) is out there. hardison shoves the guilty party to reveal his injury and eliot glances to julio to see if he means trouble, but julio's attention is just entirely fixed on the guy. he politely asks for the gun back and uses it to get the answers that hardison and eliot need.
it's transactional, practical. respectful of eliot as someone who's shown he's not to be messed with, who's on julio's turf, but who's behaving with respect and restraint himself - eliot's there for entirely reasonable answers on one specific issue, uses violence only in reaction to and in proportion with the threats against him, and frankly de-escalates the situation pretty damn well by grabbing the gun in julio's jeans and knocking out the next guy who threatens him. (seriously, for violence-type criminals, it was practically diplomatic.)
and it's clear that julio's underling Broke The Rules. like, I'd have preferred we had this encounter with a different underlying message than "priests are inherently good and respecting them is the obvious choice," because oof. (this show is kinda about acknowledging when people in power all too often abuse that power, after all. that and seeking justice.)
but it's an interesting little unquestioned-by-the-narrative-or-the-characters nod to honour among thieves.
and this fairly formal, mutually respectful, almost ritualised encounter ends with "gentlemen, I'll leave you to your internal affairs" which:
very cool, nice job eliot
possibly discreetly requests that julio not start in on any punitive actions until eliot and hardison are away, so they're not privy to that specific crime (the last we see of julio he's crouching and pointing the gun at the guy very close, and eliot gets them out of there pretty quickly, so there could be some implications there, and it's a very understated moral messiness if so)
gets eliot a little nod from julio like "thanks for bringing this to my attention, I appreciate your civility here, not ceding my authority though" (and eliot doesn't ask him to.)
it's a great little interaction. it's a (sigh, mostly) great little scene.

When Eret died in their hardcore world, the world turned into a black void with endless rainfall. It felt so beautiful and poetic, and I know it was probably some glitch or something, but let’s imagine this from a character lore perspective for funzies:
If we assume c!Eret is Herobrine kin (or something of the like) in every world they inhabit, including this Hardcore World, then perhaps their death is what corrupted the world. Some fanon lore categorizes Herobrine as: “a virus that can delete or manipulate worlds”. Maybe whenever c!Eret is killed, there is catastrophic reality-shattering damage as a result. (After all, Herobrine aren’t technically supposed to exist in any world).
If we were to go a step further and connect this theory to c!Eret’s DSMP iteration, it might explain the whole “potentially immortal (?)” thing they’ve got going on. There’s certainly something strange about their relationship with life and death. We could say this is a side-effect (or even the cause) of their friendship with Foolish, a Totem of Life who was once a Totem of Death, but I don’t think that’s necessarily the case.
When Eret accidentally (non-canonically) died on the DSMP recently, they said: "I never die -- I never die! That's my whole THING! I don't die and -- I died!"). From this we can posit several things: A) They’re some kind of minor god, B) They don’t die easily, or C) They cannot die because their death would break the world (and I doubt ‘ol DreamXD would be too happy about that).
Either way, there’s lots of unexplored lore potential with c!Eret’s character. Hopefully we’ll get some answers about their character’s history someday, but in the meantime, it’s fun to theorize!

Okay I'm done being cute, gonna rapid fire the rest of these headcanons let's gooooo
Ace
Ace is a jerk, yes, but he does show moments of kindness that are reserved only for his gang. He genuinely does care about them as they're the only family he's ever had. These moments only happen when they're alone, though, and that's because...
He's insistent on them keeping up the appearance of menacing troublemakers. That's what has gotten them by for so long, and he doesn't want anyone exploiting a weakness (especially after Aspirations)
On a brighter note, Ace thinks he knows all there is to flirting until he actually does it. In his head he's a suave smooth-talker, but in reality he comes off as an awkward dork at best (but in an endearing way, so it still kind of works lol)
He got into a lot of fights as a kid. It started out as self defense from bullies, then turned into him deliberately picking fights to discourage others from targeting him. Hurt them before they can hurt you and whatnot
Big Billy
He actually looked pretty normal as a baby, aside from his one eye and green skin. He began having growth spurts a few years later, and getting a lot stronger
As a child he had a habit of snacking in his sleep, as a result of the growth spurts he was going through. This is not good when your friends are trying to maintain a food supply. Luckily he has since curbed this habit, though it still happens every once in a while
Billy doesn't take well to being abandoned. He gets nervous when left alone or if someone he likes leaves without him, and gets visibly upset if they don't come back.
Of the gang, he's the most open about his issues, but because he has such a childlike mind, it can be difficult to articulate his feelings
Grubber
Like Billy, he looked like a normal baby despite the green skin. The grotesque appearance that we're familiar with didn't start developing until a few years later
He never went to school because his parents were embarrassed about him, but he still managed to teach himself how to read and play several different instruments
He's naturally curious and likes to explore and experiment. He's usually the first to find a new place or object of interest
Grubber dresses in rags because good clothes are hard to come by without stealing, so he lets his friends have whatever they find. He's very insistent about it
Lil Arturo
Being practically raised by Ace, Arturo picked up a few habits from him. He puts the most effort into his appearance after Ace, and developed a more pragmatic demeanor, taking advantage of his small size to lower the guard of the gang's victims (Buttercrush and Bought and Scold being notable examples)
Despite this, he's actually pretty chill when they're just hanging out. He's really only malicious to those outside his gang, but it does rank him as second meanest
Arturo is a known prankster. As a child he was always teaming up with Grubber to mess with the others, which marked him as the annoying little brother. He clearly hasn't lost his touch, since he did win the pranking contest in that one comic :)
Random headcanon, but Arturo has at least a passing interest in history. My only evidence for this is in Buttercrush as he was the one who specified it was a Mesopotamian vase, and the way he said it seemed like he wasn't just reading off the label, like he knew exactly what it was
Snake
It's obvious that Snake looks up to Ace a lot and will do anything to impress him. I headcanon that he went as far as adopting Ace's bad boy demeanor growing up. Unlike Arturo, this was a conscious choice rather than influence, especially once Ace started praising him for it
On his own he's actually pretty quiet and nicer than most of the other members. He's also a smartass who likes to crack jokes, but since this get suppressed by Ace, it's only ever seen when he's left to his own devices
He's surprisingly self-sufficient and resourceful when the need arises. There were a lot of times as a kid where he had to take care of himself. Snake can manage on his own but doesn't like to be by himself for long periods of time. It makes him anxious, but he won't admit it
As a result he's the most knowledgeable in first aid. He's the one who patches up the gang if their injuries are bad enough
He also knows how to drive and operate heavy machinery (witnessed in Buttercrush and one or two comics). When he's bored, he'll find a vehicle in the dump to fiddle around with. Boy definitely knows how to hot-wire a car

Every now and then I replay the first episode of VLD and I wonder why I thought it be a good show lol
#mostly just the part where Allura is assigning pilots to lions#why lol. the first five people who show up are just perfect fits?? hate it lol#i have no au plot ideas but itd have made more sense to draw out the forming of voltron. like for a longer time. like its the s1 finale#and to be traveling looking for appropriate pilots#or the s2 finale? like what if the original gang somehow stayed in contact despite not being Voltron paladins and they proved being the best#team despite not piloting immediately. i feel like a stronger plot of their forming teamwork outside of being Voltron would have also made#their friendships seem more real too lmao#like what if Lance IS Blue's pilot bit hes the only one for a long time. the other lions couldn't actually *just be* located#*but. not bit. and what if Pidge runs off in a stolen vessel to find her dad and brother. what if Shiro isnt.. so flat as a character and is#desperate to find his old team and runs off with them to help out and free others#Keith could somehow get involved with The Blades a lot sooner#and Hunk finds his footing as a leader in rebellion organization. i hate that he was just the funny guy allll the way thru#also (still not a plot bc my brain is unorganized lol) Allura doesnt die. Shiro actually gets to be gay with a husband. and we either need#to not make Lotor a villain or just go all out on making him the worst. i personally dont want him to be a villain bc it was stupid lol#also PULEEEAASE Lance is bi. Lance “I'm just getting a feel for the stick” *obsessed with his rival who doesnt even know he exists* McClain#i want to see him get over his crush on Allura within like 6 episodes and then see him making out with the mermaids then Keith when everyone#starts reuniting lol. my bicon Lance deserves to kiss mermaids like we all do and then get on when the otp lol#now im nostalgic for s1 VLD vibes. ya know. before hell lol#it really just gets worse after ... s3? everyone feels different. i usually tolerate up to about the end of s3 before i feel like its donezo#aunt posting#vld#voltron: legendary defender
