I'll be waiting

Pairing: idol Bang Chan × Gn!reader

Genre: fluff, angst, friends to potential lovers, fic (1.6k words)

Prompt: "Even ten years from now, if you haven't found somebody I promise I'll be around. Tell me when you're ready. I'm waiting"

Warnings: for a short moment there's a bit of unrequited love, happy ending tho. Mentions of insecurity back to the trainee days.

A/n: the longest fic I've ever done, I'm kinda proud of it ngl

Patience might be Chan's biggest virtue, he thinks to himself. By seeing where he's right now and where he was ten years ago, he smiles. He couldn't agree more with that statement.

2014

He still remembers the first time he saw you.

Monthly evaluation. At this point, Chan should already be used to this whole process of the trainee life. However, that day felt particularly depressing to him. Hopeless, he would say.

He had found out that JYP was about to debut a new group. A girl group. And as much as Bang Chan tried to be completely happy for his friends who could finally try and debut, he had to admit he was somewhat jealous. Four years of training and he felt like he was heading towards nowhere.

Still, he tried to practice. He sang the song he would showcase so many times he reached the point of not even feeling the words leaving his mouth. He was so lost he also didn't notice the presence of someone else in the practice room. That is, until you clapped.

Chan turned his head towards you, low-key surprised. He recognised you as the child of one of the Got7's staff. He couldn't remember your name though. He doubted he even heard it at all.

"Sorry" you finally spoke. Your voice was pretty "I'm looking for my dad. Your voice is very beautiful though. You're doing well." And with a thumbs up you went away.

Chan couldn't help but laugh. Now that was random. He could barely process what happened. But you complimented him. It had been a while since he last heard a genuine compliment.

Somewhere inside his mind, he repeated his words nonstop, filling him with motivation and hope. He also was trying to remember to ask your name later.

2016

He did remember to ask your name after all. Y/n L/n. The pronunciation of your name was beautiful, almost like a melody. Honestly, after two years of knowing you, he could affirm that your existence itself was like a sweet melody.

You both became friends, good ones at that. He also found himself developing feelings for you. That was the saddest part of it all in his opinion.

Even though he hadn't known you for so long, he couldn't see life without you. To live without your horrible jokes (that he always found funny), without your sunshine-like personality (even though most people wouldn't describe you like that. Maybe you were his personal dose of light) felt like a nightmare.

However, it felt a bit cruel that he needed to live like that. He wanted to be an idol. You were the one who was his biggest incentive. Then why, to have a romance with you, could bring problems to his career? It was almost as if destiny liked to make chan suffer.

Pick one.

Happily, Chan was patient. So patient that he decided to wait for you as long as needed. He had hopes that any time now, you would come to him. And he would be ready.

Meanwhile, he focused on becoming an idol. He couldn't give up now, especially given the fact that he knew you'd be in the front row, cheering for him louder than everyone else.

2018

He kept his promise: he followed his dream, finally achieving the so exciting debut, and still waited for you, his crush developing into the most sincere love he ever felt.

However, you had other plans. Of course, you were still there for him. You were probably the one who got the happiest with the results of the survival show. You spent countless nights with him on the practice room and in the studio. You were seeing his dream come true in first hand.

But this time, there was someone else besides you: your current boyfriend. Chan really doesn't know why he didn't think this could've happened. Of course, you were dating. You were smart, beautiful and had so much love to give. Someone else would've fallen for you at some point. And it was unfair of him to expect you to be single, waiting for an empty promise.

The saddest part of it was that your boyfriend was a nice guy. It was clear he loved you. He even made an effort to love everyone who you loved, including Chan himself. You were happy around him.

Maybe it was a blessing in disguise. Chan got the job, you got someone to love - someone who could adore you without being scared of the media - and you both still got each other in the end.

Maybe that was what Chan could have. It's okay, right?

2020

The downfall of Chan's patience at last.

Although you both were still as close as you always were, life was leading each of you in your own direction.

You had a job, he had a job. You had your friends, he had his members. You had your own house, he had the dorms. You had your boyfriend, he didn't have a partner. But it was okay because he didn't even have the time after all.

Still, he tried to fall for someone else during this period. Being in this industry for two years now, he had the opportunity to meet a lot of people. Some fancied him, some tried to take a step further in a somewhat relationship. Some even wanted to just have fun. Chan swears he tried to give in most of the time.

Needless to say he failed at every try. He couldn't come close to someone without wishing it was you instead. His short answers were compared to how sweetly he talked to you. He didn't even bother to call people or have long conversations. He knew it was only a matter of time until his mind started the undesired comparison.

Maybe it was what the job required. Maybe it was because of his lack of time. Han disagrees though. Chan remembers how his friend insisted on the fact that his leader wouldn't even try with other people. But it wasn't his fault either, as it was a subconscious thing. Chan's mind was still wrapped around you. And his heart wanted to disagree, but it all goes down the moment he finds out you and your boyfriend, now your ex, had broken up.

Although he tried hard to deny, he couldn't help but still wait for you. No matter if there was a light at the end of the tunnel or if it was only darkness. He would wait.

2022

Something in your brain has switched, and Bang Chan can't say he really liked the difference.

Of course, you were still the greatest person he ever met. You were still his sunshine. But it seemed like you were tired. Your conception of life and love wasn't as bright as it once was and Chan couldn't help but feel worried about it.

For him, who has loved you deeply for over eight years now, to see you giving yourself less credit and affection hurt him. He doesn't know why and when it happened, but your brain was trying to shut down all genuine feelings one could offer to you. You thought you were, maybe, undeserving of it all.

Honestly, to see you slowly losing your light has wounded Chan way more than all his past experiences: from his fear of failure to his disappointment upon meeting your ex boyfriend. Almost as an instinct,he tried to solve the situation. This time, patience wouldn't do.

Without even noticing, he started to love you more. To actually show you how he cared for you, to put his feelings into words and actions. At first, your heart tried to deny any possible affection, but it soon realised it wasn't possible. Not when Chan didn't even hesitate on showing the entire world how you were worthy of love. And not once he showed it as a challenge or a burden. He was by your side, and he never made it seem hard.

The best part of it all was that none of you noticed it. He started to open up to you to try and protect you,and you opened up to him in order to heal and protect his feelings. Maybe that was patience finally showing itself as a virtue.

2024

Ten years later, it finally happened.

Honestly, Chan was still a bit suspicious. There was no way he was actually seeing this, right? Maybe he was becoming delusional after all. Maybe he started to hallucinate because of his desires. But at the same time, it felt too real.

The way you looked at him, that is. It was just a normal conversation between old friends. Between gossips and laughs, there was absolutely no reason for you to look at him like this. So lost in thought, with this shimmer in your eyes that Chan knew way too well. He knew it because he had it too.

It was love. Not the one nurtured by friends or family. The one shared just between lovers. And he was so sure of it because he knew he looked at you in the exact same way you were looking at him right now.

He smiles. For a moment, you're a bit lost, wondering if you lost a joke or an important moment. That, however, makes him laugh. He couldn't believe he just saw you fall in love on the first row.

Ah, he's been patient. Now, he can't wait for you to realise what just happened. Either way, he knows with a smile on his face that he'll be waiting for you.

I promise I'll be around.

I wanna elaborate as to why Corazón, Merilwen, and Egbert are called the trans trio, because none of them are confirmed trans in any way. (It would be very cool if they were, though.). This has finale spoilers, so beware. My reasoning is that pretty much all their backstories/characters can be viewed through a trans lense. For example:

Corazón's is the strongest with this. He literally reinvents himself into someone he's happy being after running away from a father that doesn't accept him. Then, when he has to deal with his father, his father refers to him as what is essentially Corazón's dead name (The fact Corazón refers to himself as Percival Milquetoast when arguing who he is and why Geth shouldn't be destroyed kinda throws a wrench into the cogs of this idea). Then, after all his hard work to turn himself into someone he's happy being/seeing in the mirror, he gets turned into something completely different. He doesn't look the way that gives him gender euphoria anymore. He's a tortle now.

Merilwen is literally so distressed at the idea of changing her name. She's attached to her name and deeply doesn't want to change it. It's her preferred name, and she wants to keep it even through her families/village's tradition. Then she chooses a name that only her parents can call her. I think that can be viewed as like another name she was debating naming herself but didn't end up going with but is still attached to so she allows a few people she trusts (her parents) to call her that name as well. Then, her wildshaping, I don't know how to fully articulate it, but that's trans. I think it's the changing the way your body looks via magic to make yourself happy with your body (she's always pretty happy when she gets to turn into a cat).

Viewing Egbert through a trans lense doesn't add that much angst to him at all like it does for Corazón and Merilwen. His body magically gets changed from a human's to a dragonborn's, and he loves it so much. He seems absolutely happy to be a dragonborn. I think he would be depressed if he magically got turned back into a human. The big, scaly lizard man is who he is, not some squishy human. His body gives him gender euphoria, except for how big his nose and head are occasionally. I think when first turned into a dragonborn, he was probably pretty skinny because he was originally a human, and his head seemed giant in comparison, so he started working out more to make his body bigger and get rid of his self-consciousness about his big head.

You were very happy with your life , having two best friends , giyuu and sabito , sabito was a very brave person , he helped you and giyuu in various things meanwhile giyuu is quite a introvert .

As the years passed , your trio grew to be a lasting friendship and went to the same college , in that case you and giyuu started dating , sabito became giyuu`s wing man , in one semester you and giyuu started passing notes , sabito was the one covering the both of you , when it came to lunch giyuu and yourself forgot to bring money , that lead to sabito buying the both of you lunch , you were grateful of your trio , wishing that the strong bond between the three of you , will never end .

As time passed , graduation came , receiving your diploma with your two best friends , and taking a group photo never failed .

As adult hood came , giyuu proposed to you ,at your wedding day ,sabito was the best man , with your sister being the brides maid ,sabito was always there not having a second thought .

You became a house wife as for giyuu , he became a business man at a big company with sabito , it was a big coincidence that sabito applied for that job and got hired at the same day as giyuu ,sometimes sabito even gets invited to your shared home with giyuu .

TIME SKIP (cuz im lazy)

One Sunday sabito decided to visit your shared home , as sabito was texting giyuu the cab crashed , sabito got admitted to the hospital and the doctor called giyuu , you and giyuu rushed to the hospital but sadly , you both were too late , the doctor said that he had died from blood loss , giyuu then felt guilty because sabito died just to see the both of you .

As the time passed , giyuu didn't talk to you , even a mere kiss , when he goes to work he doesn't pay attention to you , he didn't kiss you before going to work or even hug you when he comes home but from all of that he rejected all the food you made , either he'd eat it when you weren't watching or throw it away when it got cold , the both of you know that your love language is cooking , now that he didn't eat the food you made , he just broke your heart even more by not eating it and preferring to order food online .

You didn't bother to tell him you were pregnant with his child, due to the fact that he'd just reject you as always .

As time became days to weeks , you were now 2 weeks pregnant , you started questioning your life ,' why did i marry him ? why doesn't he love me anymore ? why did i get pregnant ? why is life so complicated ?' to the fact that you got depressed .

One Friday , giyuu came home , he expected for you to be in your room as always but when he opened the door you weren't there , frantic , he searched everywhere for you from up to down , left to right , every crevice of the house but you weren't there , he was about to give up when a sudden call from his phone popped up , it was your doctor saying that you were in the hospital , giyuu asked why , he was shocked when the doctor said that you had aborted your child and that you didn't have a second thought of aborting it , as the call ended giyuu rushed to go to the hospital .

When giyuu entered the room you were in , he found your tear stained cheeks as if you regretted aborting the child , giyuu came closer to you , when he finally sat down beside you , you spoke "what do you want ?" he was shocked of what just came out of mouth "im sorry " he replied , you didn't answer just a sob , he hugged you trying to comfort you but you pushed him away , but he hugged you again , but this time was a much more comforting embrace , " i love you , and i`m sorry " you hugged him back and kissed him , " i love you too"

sharing my thoughs on main because I refuse to sleep right now with this show on my brain

Spoilers Under Cut

Darius;

I'm sadly a tad disappointed. He wasn't changed, persay, but I'm sooo upset he didn't spout One Single Dino Fact! Obviously he's not a kid anymore, I expected them all to grow up and change a little, but he felt very, lacking. I get it, he was depressed and guilty about Brooklyn, but I feel like there were times he could have shined through his old light. My favorite scene was when he was in awe of the glowing Saurolophus's. It's so boring that they gave him a crush on Brooklyn, can they not think up any new plot ideas?

Kenji;

He, Yaz, and Sammy are all tied with best, good character progression. He's still the same guy who wouldn't abandon his camp fam when push came to shove, and his breakdown when his dad died was a new peak for this show to top on giving me emotions. (I literally made a sad/sob noise when he said father in his native tongue, proving once again how much he longed to impress the dirtbag that didn't deserve him.) Every moment he had with Darius made me crave more, I long for flashbacks of the Bowman family. Also, him punning his name is my new favorite thing, I demand at least one Kon pun a season now, please and thank you

Ben;

Love his energy, as usual, he had some of the funniest moments easily and I'd cry too if someone was abusing my dino! I can't believe he left Bumpy behind twice!!

Yammy;

While I give slight credit they didn't do a breakup/ back together thing, it feels like they almost did, but since we don't know how long they spent not speaking I'm going to pretend this was a recent development and Ben and Darius just dropped on the tail end of it. As said above with Kenji, I appreciate they kept their characters consistent and progressed previous storylines without making them feel like whole new people. Regardless, happy they're still together and just being the best life goals for a partner

Brooklyn;

I'd honestly hoped they had the guts to really kill her. It would have given the show a much more dangerous feel than they'll ever manage now, and I'm sooo looking forward hearing what her great plan was for not telling the others she's alive. She was always my least favorite and least relatable and I appreciated her not even being in this season and I hope they draw this out as long as possible so I don't have to deal with her

Every now and again, I see people upset about others trying to find the joy in being trans, but like... why is it an issue?

I've been in pain since I was seven years old. I'm tired of it! Sadness is dull, take it from me. It chews you up and spits you out until you're unrecognizable, and that's what's expected of trans people - that we will be okay with being miserable, that it is a badge of honour that proves we're worthy enough to be recognized. I'm exestentially exhausted of it.

Yes, expressing pain is completely healthy. Yes, it is only natural if you feel sad because you're trans. But to expect and demand all of us to be in pain and sadness and suicidality in order to "prove" ourselves? What does that accomplish? How is this acceptance?

Seriously like, calm before the storm, they don't know what's going to happen in the following seasons, they're quite cute with each other, etc. Actually their dynamic in these is similar to what they were like in the later years but the difference of "not knowing what's gonna happen yet" vs. "they've been through so much together and have both come out on the other side."

I mean I'm so vettonso-brained rn, as you know, so take this with a grain of salt, but for me it's like, Fernando looking at Seb like "hmmm who is this rookie, he reminds me of myself when I was in his position"

okay so, fun fact, i don't know music pretty much At All so i had no idea that Backstreet Boys had a song with this title?? upon listening to it though i do actually know the song. i have not heard it in years though, but i'm screeching from how well it fits the story so it's been added to the playlist for this fic 😂

AS LONG AS YOU LOVE ME is actually not (directly) about Loki! it's another fic in Of Fire and Of Ice, but this one serves as a prequel to the whole series. here's the short working summary for the fic because i haven't cared to write down an actual summary for it yet.

Take a journey to discover the truth behind the story of Laufey Borsdóttir’s abduction by Jǫtunheimr, and of a life cut short because of love.

i changed a bunch of stuff in Marvel's norse lore back to fit more closely with its mythology counterparts for this AU. this included changing Loki's parentage back to its mythology version, so Laufey is his mother and Fárbauti is his father.

while i was concepting OFAOI, i just kinda got stuck often on the bit of history right before the story takes place. it always felt important to me when i was doing the first couple of drafts for the series. ruminating and working out the details of it while working on the end of the series (because there's some pre-story history stuff that comes up in the final fic that's important but not really relevant until that point) kinda snowballed into writing this fic.

it's a story about a girl who falls in love. Laufey sees Fárbauti the first time they meet when Fárbauti and his father come to Asgard during Bor's reign, and she just... kind of knows without realising that he'll be important to her.

Laufey looks down into the eyes of the Frost Giant prince, and holds his steady red gaze. Her father and brothers have always called them red as blood, but she finds she doesn’t agree. They are red — a vibrant bright red, yes— but they remind her of the red you see at sunrise. The red that brings with it the promise of a new day. And with every new day there comes new chances. New opportunities. Hope. Laufey realises she likes the prince’s sunrise-red eyes much more than the blood-red she had been expecting.

it's also a story about Laufey choosing her own path, even when the people who love her tell her it's the wrong one. it's a story about betrayal from people she thought would never harm her just because they want to protect a legacy. it's a story about Laufey fighting for what she wants, not what everyone thinks she should.

ultimately though, it's a tragedy. from the get-go of writing this fic, i knew without a shadow of a doubt that Laufey would die in the end. i didn't really have a solid idea of how, or why, or when, but i knew that she would.

I NEARLY FORGOT ALSO BUT i was looking at the planning and reading the tags i wrote for it and. i literally wrote "Soulmates, but without any lore connection to the rest of the lore for this series" and if that's not the funniest but also most genuine way i was writing this fic. they're soulmates, but theyre not the magically bound soulmates of the AU. i'm laughing and i'm crying.
