Just found out my father in law is way fucking cooler than I thought.
He's been doing some on the ground work for asylum seekers near the border with local orgs and tribes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A lot of this work looks like securing resources and humanitarian aid for people.
Sometimes it's looks like food, sometimes tents, and sometimes flights so the people they're helping can safely get where they're going. Today he posted a whole bulk size bag of beans so he could make burritos for some of the 500+ people there (including organizers), so you have an idea for scale.
And he says some of them have been in open air detention centers for days.
Plus, with flu season and winter coming they need some more things than usual and there just isn't enough supply to meet demand right now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They're desperate for more help. I just saw his posts and reached out since I have y'all (my amazing followers) who've helped me out personally on way more than just one occasion.
So if you would like to contribute here are some things he's given me permission to share with you all (along with the photos).

Border Patrol is detaining thousands of migrants, including children and the elderly, in the deserts of San Diego County without food, water or shelter when overnight temperatures drop below freezing.
You can donate to the wonderful mutual aid groups - who have been helping them for more than 100 days - right here:

So uh... at Jacumba, near San Diego... the US is keeping people in open-air (e.g. outdoors, on the fucking ground) detention camps, in the freezing cold, and AREN'T GIVING THEM FUCKING FOOD.
OR SHELTER.
They're barely even giving them any water, Jesus Christ.
There are literally *babies* there.
Only volunteer groups - such as AL Otro Lado and Border Kindness - are helping them. No federal agencies or big NGOs will do anything?!?!?
Like people have *begged* NGOs to help, and they won't.
Apparently people are crossing over the border near this location, so the border patrol agency has made it an "unofficial" detention camp, where they keep people outdoors - no food, no shelter - until they are transferred to a 'proper' (e.g. INDOOR) detention facility.
They keep people there for days, in the freezing cold, no food, no shelter, no fucking blankets, but oh the guards sure have guns and won't let anybody leave, either.
And these desperate volunteer groups are the only ones doing anything. Making sandwiches and soup and *running out of food* before they can feed everyone, and desperately trying to find blankets and tents and tarps and clothes for hundreds of people. Who are sleeping on the dirt, trying desperately to keep their children from freezing.
I only found out about this from a twitter thread by James Stout:

This is absolutely monstrous.
To donate to AL Otro Lado, go here
To donate to Border Kindness go here.
They also have an Amazon wishlist.

Far-right extremists have spent the past week harassing and threatening migrants on the United States border with Mexico while making money by livestreaming it on YouTube and Rumble.
“Anybody in there,” said Dennis Yarbery, one of the YouTubers, as he approached a migrant camp at night in Jacumba Hot Springs, California, near the border last week. Yarbery was livestreaming to thousands of people. “Come out, come out wherever you are.”
Yarbery is one of three men who split off from the Take Our Border Back convoy in Texas and, according to their livestreams, spent days driving along the border in Arizona and California to harass migrants and volunteers with nonprofit groups.
“We’re illegal hunters,” Yarbery told a store clerk while livestreaming at a Subway sandwich counter in Jacumba Hot Springs. “I’ve hunted a lot in my life, but I’ve never actually hunted people, and that’s what we’re doing now.”
Yarbery, who is known online as both MasterGrifter and Big D and says he joined the People’s Convoy, a group that protested Covid lockdown measures and disrupted traffic, in 2022, was joined by Josh Fulfer, known as OreoExpress, and Joe Felix, known as Taco Joe, who runs 1st Responders Media, an outlet focused on livestreaming far-right events.
Throughout the hours-long broadcasts from the border in Arizona and California, these livestreamers regularly asked for donations from their supporters, which they claimed was being used to continue their work “covering” the crisis.
Even while in the middle of harassing the migrants, the livestreamers could still be heard thanking those who were sending them money via YouTube’s Super Chat function or through other platforms like Venmo and the Christian-aligned crowdfunding site GiveSendGo. In one situation, while Fulfer was shouting at migrants in Arizona telling them to go home, he stopped briefly to call out a supporter who had sent him $50 on Venmo.
These livestreamers come after weeks of inflamed rhetoric from both the far-right community and Republican lawmakers about immigration at the Texas border with Mexico. This year, the situation has erupted: After Texas governor Greg Abbott refused to heed the Biden administration’s calls to remove razor wire along the border, a dozen GOP governors publicly declared support for Abbott, and the Take Our Border Back convoy traveled from Virginia to Texas. Though the convoy petered out, the violent anti-immigrant rhetoric, which experts have warned would have long-term impacts, has only heightened.
“The post-convoy terror campaign against immigrants at the border follows an all-too-familiar pattern we’ve tracked for the past couple of decades,” Devin Burghart, the executive director at the Institute for Research and Education on Human Rights, tells WIRED. “Public bragging about ‘hunting people’ is a descent into a dangerous new low for armed vigilantes. Left unchecked, armed far-right vigilantes will spill more blood.”
After the livestreamers left Texas, they went to Sasabe in Arizona and a migrant camp run by No More Deaths, a humanitarian organization that provides support for migrants crossing the border.
During an hours-long livestream at night, Yarbery, Fulfer, and Felix all shouted at the migrants and accused them of human trafficking. Yarbery even tried to sell cigarettes to the migrants for $20 each. At one point, Fulfer threatened violence against a migrant who was shining a torch at their cameras.
The trio also verbally attacked a volunteer who worked with the organization, following her around as she phoned for help from US Border Patrol, according to livestreams of the incident viewed by WIRED before they were taken offline.
Yarbery, Felix, and Fulfer didn’t respond to WIRED’s requests for comment about their actions at the border.
Laurie Cantillo, a board member from Humane Borders, says the organization, which maintains water stations along migrant routes near the border, is aware of the allegations of harassment. “We have noticed an increase in vandalism of our permitted water stations along the border,” Cantillo tells WIRED. “Our 55-gallon barrels have been shot, stabbed, drained, and stolen. It’s a sad state of affairs when someone sabotages water that can save a human life.”
US Border Patrol and No More Deaths did not respond to multiple requests for comment about the incident. One former volunteer with No More Deaths, who did not want to be identified due to safety concerns, told WIRED that they were not surprised no one replied, as the organization “may not want to draw extra attention to this event.”
After departing Arizona, the trio of livestreamers headed to California, where they continued to try and track down migrant camps. On several days their searches were fruitless, though they continued to broadcast and solicit donations through YouTube.
After Fulfer and Felix departed, Yarbery continued to “hunt,” as he called it, and during one broadcast over the weekend, he livestreamed with his partner and their baby while driving toward the border in Jacumba Hot Springs.
While there, Yarbery met with locals to discuss the migrant situation, and in one conversation a man could be heard on the livestream saying, “I say we shoot ’em all,” before Yarbery told him to be quiet as he was broadcasting live on YouTube.
YouTube told WIRED that it terminated Fulfer and Felix’s accounts after WIRED asked about the livestreamers, but it did not take action on Yarbery’s account. All of Yarbery’s videos, YouTube said, were set to private by the account holder. Yarbery has also created a backup channel, and told his followers in a YouTube chat where they could continue to follow him on the platform.
For years, extremism experts have been tracking how violent rhetoric around the border and migrants has led directly to violence, dating back to the 2000s when fear-mongering attacks on immigrants led to the mobilization of far-right paramilitary groups, one of which brutally murdered Raul Flores and his 9-year-old daughter Brisenia.
“Sadly, this cycle of violence has become so common that it tends to go unnoticed outside of the communities targeted by far-right vigilantes,” Burghart said. “This time around, the Black Mirror-like difference is that tech advances now allow [people like Yarbery, Fulfer, and Felix] to stream and monetize their cruelty to a far-right fanbase that craves more.”

Hey y'all please watch this and share it around, my father in law is so proud of this and Im proud of him for it. Look at him getting them in frame, he's so excited to contribute and doing work on the ground!
If you love people or hate ICE then watch this and skip to 13:30 when the conference starts
Alright so this group helps asylum seekers at the southern border by providing things like food, drink, tents, and shelter. They have formed a small tent city at the border as well because the asylum seekers are told that if they leave the outside detention site they'll get deported.
This is them addressing bold face lies that San Diego county has told in addition the failure to meet expectations and provide things themselves.
One of the lies is that the county claims the money being used to support asylum seekers come from taxpayers but it was THIS GROUP and others who raised funds. Upwards of $60k.
This is after they ignored the groups request for funding.
They touch on the corruption of sending funding to a large, unhelpful nonprofit where most funding goes to staffing rather than people migrating. They amount was $6 million and the Free Shit Collective is surprised at how fast the money is going without any substantial changes for the asylum seekers.
Also if you helped them earlier in my previous post, there's a thank you for anyone who donated. Bonus: you are now personally involved in the lies that San Diego is telling about the border and claiming YOUR donations dont exist and that the money is actually from the state.
Also resource links and how to help! I know how much y'all love those!!

We're Through Pretending
Imagine you go to the store to get groceries, because you're hungry and you need to eat. The grocery store happens to be thousands of miles away, and many people die trying to get there every day, but you're hungry, you need to eat, and that's where the groceries are. There's a big lady holding up a torch outside the store and she's got a big sign that says "GROCERIES HERE!" So you go, right?
There are so many groceries at the store. You've never seen such groceries. Kinda expensive, but that's okay! You pick some out and get in line. It's a real long line. There are plenty of groceries, that's not the problem, but there are very few people working the checkout. And a lot of 'em have guns. And a lot of 'em don't seem to be to happy that people are here to get groceries. A lot of people are getting imprisoned or yeeted right out of the store. Many of them children.
A minor dispute on whether to surround the checkouts in razor wire seems to be going on. Also, they are trying to build a wall. A lot of people are getting hurt, and dying, due to all the razor wire and shit around the checkouts. People are building little makeshift shelters, and dropping dead of hypothermia and dehydration, and getting sick. But you need groceries! You gotta eat!
Someone walks up and screams at you that you're breaking the law by loitering around the store like this and not making a purchase. But you are trying to make a purchase, the line is just that damn long! Years long! You are in the legal place to make your grocery purchase, according to the store rules. It is required that you loiter. The only other thing you can do is get out and head back home with no groceries, where you will suffer and probably die.
Well, that's not the store's fault, says the person who's screaming about your illegal loitering. Actually, although it's very complicated, you're pretty sure it is? At least partially? Something about the price of the bananas? And the pharmaceuticals...? Couldn't they at least have a few of those guys with the guns take a turn scanning the barcodes?
But before you can even get into that, someone new rolls up and says that the store rules have changed. Too many people are trying to buy groceries. Now, no one can buy groceries. They may make an exception for unaccompanied minors - they love incentivizing sending children on a dangerous journey alone, so they can put them in cages! - but otherwise, nobody's buying groceries today.
But you have money! (Skills/labor/tax dollars!) And they have groceries, you can see them! Don't they even want your money?
No. And it doesn't matter why. No groceries today. Go home, or go camp in the parking lot and hope too many people don't want groceries tomorrow. We are allowing some people to secure a place in line via phone and remote locations, but by the numbers, far too few to meet demand. Also, we may not necessarily allow them to buy groceries either. Why? Bottom line, we're afraid if we let you pay for your groceries, you'll buy all of them, and there won't be any left. Hasn't happened yet - everyone who comes here to get groceries brings the resources needed to stock more groceries - but it might!
You notice it bothers the store people way less when white Europeans buy the groceries. They're not as worried about scarcity then.
So you say, "Fuck it, then I'll steal these."
And, ya know, maybe you'll make it. Some folks do, God bless 'em. But now everyone's pointing at you and screaming, "SEE? WE CAN'T SELL MORE GROCERIES NOW! PEOPLE ARE STEALING THEM!"
And God alone knows what new rules the store will put into place to keep people who need groceries from accessing the groceries next.
The latest bill, the one that says we might fix the grocery line problem by shutting down the whole thing for most of the year, is dead in the water. This is only the case because, due to a truly hilarious chain of circumstances, Republicans don't want to give Biden a "win." Yes! Shutting down the border and backing up the line even further, with the intention of making more people turn around and go home to die, is a win! We're just so damn worried about the potential scarcity of our groceries, we kinda like it when people who need groceries die. Phew! I mean, at least they didn't get any of our groceries!
And this is collateral damage. We've accepted, as a nation, that people will die on the border (and lots of other places) so that "we" (career politicians who don't care about anyone) can bank some political capital to do other things. This is what "harm reduction" looks like in real terms. Whom shall we throw under the bus so that others might not get run over quite so much? Might. No guarantees, but you are free to soothe your conscience by imagining the never-ending carnage could've been way worse. Look! Maybe this trans child got maimed slightly less because the brown one was crushed under the wheels! That's progress!
I can't make these decisions anymore. If you can, OK. God help you. God help all of us.

Migrant rights defenders on Thursday cheered a federal court ruling ordering U.S. Customs and Border Protection to stop holding undocumented minors in squalid open-air detention sites in Southern California and to transfer all children held in such locations to "safe and sanitary" spaces.
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) contended that people held in the open-air detention sites (OADS) are not yet in U.S. custody. However, Judge Dolly Gee of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California in Los Angeles issued a 12-page ruling that found migrant children are entitled to protection under the Flores Settlement Agreement, which established national minimum standards for the treatment of detained minors.
Gee found that CBP violated the 1997 agreement by detaining children in unsafe and unsanitary conditions, failing to properly feed them, and taking too long to process them at seven sites near San Diego and Jacumba Hot Springs. Migrants detained in these OADS have waited as long as five days before being transfered to indoor lockups.
"The court's decision to recognize CBP's custody of children in open-air detention sites is a crucial step towards ensuring accountability and protection for vulnerable migrants," said Lilian Serrano, director of Southern Border Communities Coalition, a case plaintiff.
"There are minimum standards that must be followed if CBP will be detaining families, children, and other people," Serrano added. "We are pleased to see the federal court acknowledge this fundamental truth. Now we expect the agency to comply with the court's order immediately."
As the number of migrants entering the United States without authorization has surged during President Joe Biden's tenure, U.S. border authorities have forced migrants—including people legally seeking asylum—into OADS, where they face what case plaintiff National Center for Youth Law (NCYL) called "profoundly inhumane conditions."
NCYL said migrant children are "forced to take shelter from harsh rain and wind in porta-potties, burn toxic brush and garbage to stay warm, and survive on nothing more than a granola bar and a bottle of water each day."
...
"But it remains a tragedy that a court had to direct the government to do what basic human decency and the law clearly require," Desai added. "We expect CBP to comply with the court's order swiftly, and we remain committed to holding CBP accountable for meeting the most rudimentary needs of children in their legal custody, including food, shelter, and basic medical care."
