Gossip Girl x Lover

blairnessa & serena/georgina midgame

blair and vanessa DO become roommates in college; 🎶oh noooo i think they’re catching feelings 🎶 (it’s nice to have a friend)

serena and georgina have a lowkey foe yay since they don’t really like each other (serena sings i forgot that you existed) but it ends with them kissing

sideplot where it’s chair but make it nate/chuck (miss americana and the heartbreak prince)

jenny finally comes to the realization that was obvious to everyone but her; she’s a lesbian icon

jenny sings i think (s)he knows about her true love agnes

dan gets into some trouble and duets cruel summer with bart (this plot leads nowhere)

this doesn’t stop dan from ratting out his own affair on Gossip Girl

blairnessa & serena/georgina slowly fade out

georgina and vanessa realize they should just date (paper rings)

the story ends with blair fantasizing about the love of her life, serena (cornelia street)

I took a trip to New York in the summer of 2016, and the only thing on my mind was sitting on the steps of The Metropolitan Museum and Art, where the girls always ate lunch, and walking the streets of the Upper East Side. I felt like I should talk about another favorite of mine, even if it is a show: Gossip Girl.

Serena van der Woodsen has come back to Manhattan after going away for a year and her arrival begins the plot of the next 6 seasons of the show. An anonymous blogger named Gossip Girl follows her come back and all aspects of her life.

The big drawls of Gossip Girl, for me, are the glamour and drama. That’s enough to draw in any teen girl. Not to mention the charms of boys like Chuck Bass, Nate Archibald and Dan Humphrey.

I want to discuss some of the lessons the show, which as I’ve gotten older I realize is pretty problematic, has taught me. True friendship is hard to find and harder to keep, money isn’t the key to happiness and secrets can only be secret for so long.

Throughout the entire show Blair Waldorf and Serena go back and forth in their friendship. Blair’s insecurities always get the better of her. But come boys, family troubles, or other friends who want to be with Serena for what she can get them, she’s there. And Serena is always there to help Blair realize she shines just as much, if not more, than Serena. The two have an unconditional love I could only hope to have with my own friends.

Dan and his sister Jenny are the “poor” kids at their private Upper East Side high school, but when their father marries Serena’s mom and Jenny takes Blair’s spot as the richest, and most popular girl in school, she’s still not happy. The money and status change her, and make her even more unhappy than she was as a nobody.

Every time these characters do something dumb, teenagers would do, they try to hide it. But it always ends up on Gossip Girl at some time in the future. This taught me that secrets have a funny way of always coming back to bite you. Even though we all have secrets, we should always be careful who we tell things to. This goes back to the true friendship lesson.

If I had to rate the show, I’d give it 3 John Hughes’ as it has hardly any diversity, the characters barely have any character development, and a lot of the plots are wildly outrageous. But despite all that, the wardrobe and sets are beautiful and its wild plots involve wildly rich teenagers. It may not be accurate, but it sure is entertaining.
