Boxtober - Day 9: "Don't Buy A House Off Craigslist."
Tumblr media
Day 9: -The Puppeteer X GN!Reader “Sounds like a you problem.” X “Up Against the Wall Kiss."
-I do not own "The Puppeteer/Jonathan Blake" and do not take credit for him.
-Rating: Viewer discretion is advised !!
TRIGGER WARNING: Mentions of suicide, a fairly detailed kiss scene, and harassment from a stranger.
-
It's been a couple of months since you moved into this house. The house you now call home. You didn’t get many visitors, and when you wanted to see someone, they’d convince you to go to their house. Even the movers didn’t step foot inside, and most delivery services, if they knew, wouldn’t go further than the front lawn. And it was all because you moved into a house where someone committed suicide.
The day you bought the house, you didn’t even bother to look into its history. Your eyes only saw the unbeatable mortgage and pricing. I mean, of course, you looked at the interior and whatnot, but you thought people stayed away from it due to how long it’d been up. You thought they were scared of vintage houses. But, you were wrong. They didn’t like the house because it was haunted. At least that’s what the locals told you. They swore up and down you’d be running out of that house in no time, but it never came.
You assumed they were trying to have you leave because they despised the new people. Which made sense since they were a very small community of people and didn't have many visitors. And because of everything, you couldn't bring yourself to believe in the ghost. Because you’d been living there for months with nothing ghost-like occurring. And the only scary thing was how many teenagers came around to chant the name "Jonathan Blake". You always have to tell them off. You didn’t know what a sick and twisted high they got out of that. For fucks sake, let the dead be dead. You couldn't imagine how unbearable they'd be on Halloween night. Or maybe they'd leave you alone, believing this would be the height of the haunting.
Last night had been unbelievably rough. You had those kids come back, and you had a nightmare. A dark and gruesome nightmare. A nightmare about the suicide of Jonathan Blake. You felt terrible, but it wasn’t your fault. You couldn’t control what you dreamed about. Even so, you'd hoped you'd forget it more quickly. You needed to stop talking to the locals so much. They were getting to you. You forced yourself up, feeling the apparent sweat that had formed on your forehead. Your current bedroom was cold as you grudgingly got up. You came into contact with the wooden flooring as you yawned. You changed into some sweats and a shirt. You had no intention of doing anything. It was the weekend, after all. All you wanted to do was binge on scary movies and sleep some more. You walked through the house and you could hear your breath and steps echo. You then made it to the kitchen. The sun was fairly out due to it still being early in the morning. So you didn't need to turn on the light as you made your coffee, eagerly waiting for it to be done.
You stood there for a moment, waiting for your coffee to dispense as the doorbell rang vigorously. The disorienting noise rang throughout the house as it hurt your ears. Your hands jolted as you made your way to the door as fast as you could. You were going to snap if it was those kids again. As you cautiously opened the door, you were met with a pale man with short dark brown locks framing his face. And with that, he was adorning stereotypical mailman's attire, even adding a blue baseball cap on top. He held out a brown package. It must have been something that you ordered a while back.
"I believe this is for you." At first, he didn’t look at you but then turned to you. His face changed after staring at you for an uncomfortable moment. "Oh, good morning," he said cheerfully as he leaned against the doorframe. "I didn't expect to see an angel." his teeth were whiter than him. You’ve never heard someone unironically use such an internet pickup line.  "Um, thanks for the package," you said as you slowly shut the door in his face as he took the privilege of forcing it back open. "You know, it’s pretty rude to do that, but I'll let it slide." he looked at you for way too long, making sure to take you all in as you gave him a vile side-eye. The man stepped a foot into your house as you stared at him harshly. You didn’t know how many hints you had to give this man before; you’d have to slap him. You could feel yourself cringe. You would've preferred the angsty teens over this any day. He then took a step into your house as you backed away. "What are you doing?" you asked him as he tried to make his way into your house. "I'm making sure the package is delivered," he reassured. You could right-hook this man. He wasn't much taller than you. You could tear him apart. You told yourself. You weren't going to be the next death in this house. He then made his way completely into the house. He was making you uncomfortable, and you didn’t know what to do. You had to put your foot down.
"Hey, I’m not into you like that and I also don't feel comfortable with this, so please get out of my house." you were about to snap out on this man. He frowned harshly, his face tense a good amount. "I'm just doing my job, so why are you like that?" he raised his tone and acted as if he was in the right. This guy had the nerve to intrude into your house and then say that. You cussed him out. "It's my house and because you're fucking weird," you told the mailman, as he was taken aback for a second. "Oh, you're with that emo over there?' 'Is that why you won't give me a chance?" he asked, squinting in your living room. Who was he talking about? It was just you and you alone in that house. You had no roommate or partner. You knew right then that this guy was mental and you needed him out. You were going to go call the cops on the man as he started to cuss at whatever was behind you.
"Who?-" you stuttered as you heard loud footsteps marching their way toward the both of you. You heard them right behind you as they got closer to you. You felt a sudden cold surge go right through you as there was now a solid figure right in front of you.  Someone just walked through you completely, and you could still feel their touch. You could still feel the shivers that had run up your spine. The feeling was so ethereal but so unnatural, yet you wanted to feel it again. "Boo." The figure tilted his head as the mailman screamed violently. He fell to the floor as the figure towered above him. "Jonathan Blake?" he whispered as he picked himself up and ran out the door. The mailman screamed "Puppeteer" as he stuttered. He managed to cuss the both of you out as he ran for his truck. As soon as it was just you and the spirit. You could feel yourself swallowing. Fear injected itself into your system, but you couldn't manage to run. You were enchanted by whatever that past feeling was and now by the unhuman man in front of you.
The figure wore a gray beanie on top of his jet-black hair. His skin was an irregular gray, but that wasn’t the most out-of-place thing. It was his glowing yellow eyes. His golden eyes radiated toward your normal ones. He had no pupils or whites. It was all yellow. You couldn't stop staring in awe. You should have been terrified, and you were, but your fascination with him had overcome your fear. "Boo," he muttered again, getting even closer to your face. You could tell he didn't have his shoes on the ground. Instead, he was floating a couple of inches off of the hardwood floor. He looked into your eyes, tilting his head. He appeared to be questioning you more than you were questioning him. You didn't move or run. You just couldn't. You were mesmerized by him. And even so, you could feel your heart pounding out of your chest. You didn't even feel like you were there. You were just lost in his gaze as sweat fell to the floor. "Interesting," he said, raising his eyebrows as he put himself back onto the ground. You could feel his gaze burn into your trembling frame. He was still taller than you. It didn't even make a difference if he was in the air or not. He still stood strong. The room only seemed to get colder with him in it. You could smell coffee coming from the kitchen as you looked at the transparent man in front of you.
"There's an actual ghost in my house." the words came out shaky as you felt your lips tremble violently. "Sounds like a you problem." he stood strong in front of you. You reached out to his torso. You wanted to know if he was real. If he was a ghost or if you were going insane. You didn't know what this would solve, but you were going to try it anyway. You placed your hand on his chest, pushing it against it. Your hand didn’t go through. You could feel a chill run up your fingertips on contact. "You can’t just do that." he grabbed your wrist harshly as you attempted to pull back. But his hold was just too strong. A million thoughts were running through your mind, but you couldn’t seem to organize one of them. "Huh?" you wanted to say so much more. Was he a ghost or not? He made no sense. He felt solid, but seconds ago he walked straight through you. And seconds ago, he was floating. You had so many questions and yet no answer. For example, why did the guy who committed suicide, Jonathan Blake, go emo?
"Yes, I’m real, and yes I'm a spirit," he answered two of your questions as his hold on you went away, but his hand was still very much gripping onto you. He quickly slipped his hand through your arm to demonstrate it to you. In the legend, the people spoke of Jonathan Blake. They said he’d drive you to suicide just like the world did to him. They said he was violent. They said he would string you up and take your organs out one by one. But, here he was playing into your antics. He even saved you from that bitch of a mailman. Was he just playing with his food? You didn't know if you would be able to answer that. You were way too deep in the cold, soft feelings that he brought you. And every time you felt his hand phase, it was pure ecstasy. "I was hoping to make my appearance later, but, you know." he exhaled, waiting for you to relax and get over the initial hype of seeing a dead person.
Even with all of this. He was still a rumored spirit that fed off of suicide, and you weren't ready for it. You didn't want him to do that to you. You liked whatever was going on currently. You wanted to be his friend. "I don't want to die." your eyes widened softly as you gazed at him. You didn't want him to drag you into that dark place. You had a prime question in mind. One that stuck out. Was he gonna end you today or was he going to take his sweet time with you?  He chuckled and even laughed at your misery. "Oh, I love hearing that line’ ‘But, I’m not going to hurt you.’ ``Only cause you to live here, and it's making it easier to find people," he told you blankly, but you didn’t believe him. He wasn't actually going to leave you alone. You weren't going to be the one he chose to spare. You didn't even notice your hands violently shaking. You were so confused. You had way too many emotions coming at you at once. You were getting stressed and overwhelmed. It was too much for you. You could feel yourself hyperventilating as your vision went dizzy. Your legs turned to jelly as you started to wobble backward. You didn’t know what to say or do. You fell against the wall. The puppeteer quickly made his way to you.
As you backed even further into the wall, he pressed his hands on either side of your frame. "Shouldn’t have bought a house off Craigslist." he tilted his head down to you. He was much larger than you. He practically caged you, and the worst part was he didn’t even have to try. Tears pricked in the corner of your eyes as they ran down your face effortlessly. "Hey, it's okay." his yellow mouth laughed as he brought you in for a hug. He was alarmingly cold but still alluring. He probably didn't even know he was pulling at your heartstrings. You knew he wasn’t actually trying to comfort you, but it felt like he was. He wasn’t even trying to lie, but he already had you falling for it. He was being so sadistic toward you, but you couldn't help but completely indulge. Was he just capable of manipulating your feelings, or were you just like that? Were you playing checkers while he was playing chess?
But, for some reason, it felt good to be special. It felt good to be the only one excluded from his murder. It felt good to be the only one he had mercy on. But knowing how you were feeling about it made it so much worse. You liked being special to him. Even if he was lying to you. But, even with all of this, he had your mind spinning. You hated that you could even feel that for someone like him. You could feel the tinge of disgust coursing through you. You didn't understand why he wasn't trying to kill you. You didn't want to be excluded, but, at the end of the day, you had no choice. It wasn't up to you, was it? He grabbed your tear-stained face, wiping away your tears with his freezing hands. You could feel yourself involuntarily embracing him. It felt so good, but it was terrible. He still had a grin even after his fingers were stained with your tears.
He placed one of his digits that had been immersed in your tears and licked it. His finger popped out of his mouth as he smiled at you, taking your expression all in. He thrived in sorrow, and you were directly giving it to him. You could feel your stomach coil as red dusted your face. You wanted to listen to your impulsive thoughts. You wanted to run with it. You felt fluttering in your stomach. According to his legend, the only thing he could sense was depression. He probably didn’t know what you were about to do. But you did. This was going to get you killed.
"Now back to the deadly ghost in my house shock era," he muttered, expecting you to go back to freaking out. But you didn’t. Instead, you made sure he was in his solid state as you pulled him in by the collar and gave him a quick kiss on the lips. His golden smile immensely went away in pure shock. As his cold lips come into contact with your warm ones. For the second you two were connected, you swore you would have felt a faint shock. His lips were rough and harsh against your soft ones. You remembered the details by looking at his face. He stood still, mouth agape.
"I- I didn’t think that was a part of being scared of a spirit." he froze in place, blinking at you while tilting his head. You could see his gray cheeks had a darker gray sprinkled on them. He came back to you, pressing you back against the wall. He was much more curious than before. Maybe it was because you two were at vastly different temperatures. But, you wanted more, and you could sense he wanted more too by the way he stared at you. You didn’t know how to describe it other than with a hungry gaze. He dipped down again, about to connect your lips. You two heard blaring police sirens again. As soon as you turned to find the source and turned back, he vanished. After that morning, you were never alone. After that morning you had a poltergeist boyfriend. And now no one has ever fucked with you again after the mailman ran into town screaming that he’d seen him.

The School Bully Loves You, Pt. 3:
Hiding from the Yandere School Bully
Part 1 │ Part 2
Tumblr media
[Yandere! Bully x GN Nerd! Reader]
·゜·:.。..。.:·☆·゜·:.。..。.:·☆
You left the classroom, purposefully leaving your phone behind so that Blake couldn’t contact or track you.
The bully had legit downloaded a tracking app onto your phone that required a passcode only he knew to uninstall.
“Nuh-uh,” you mumbled to yourself as you hurried down the halls, trying to think up a game plan.
Blake had made it clear that he wanted you all to himself, and that was something that you absolutely could not allow.
He’d even sent you a list of rules that he expected you to follow— the most egregious being that he expects you to call him “Daddy” tonight!
What the F?!
Well, sure the rest were pretty bad, but that last one was the one that had made you both shiver and cringe at the same time.
All morning, you’d been confused over why Blake was following you around and seemingly forcing you to be around him, but it was slowly dawning on you that it was horrifyingly possible that Blake wanted you. Romantically.
Just you.
Every single survival instinct within your body screamed at you to get as far away from Blake as possible. There was no way that you wanted to be his.
To reiterate: He’s the school bully, and you’re the biggest nerd on campus.
It didn’t take a rocket scientist to deduce that that wasn’t the best combo in the world… and it seemed to end very badly for you specifically.
You didn’t have a solid plan in mind, especially with your nerves on high alert. Every single little sound that echoed out in the hallway made you jump, and you felt like you were on the verge of a total meltdown. Eventually, you decided to hide in the safest place on campus where no one ever goes: the library.
You went to your usual secluded corner where the manga section was, and hid tucked away behind the shelves and a large potted plant that shielded you from view. You were safe… you hoped.
Now just to figure out how to hide throughout the rest of the school day… and then next week, and the rest of the school year after that.
“Darn it,” you sighed, rubbing at your temples to soothe your growing headache.
You did some homework and read up on some further assignments as you stayed hidden, hearing the bell ring, signaling that it was time to go to second period—
And also meaning that Blake was on his way to your first period to escort you.
And he wouldn’t find you.
And he’d be pissed.
Out of instinct, your breath got caught in your throat and you could feel your heartbeat starting to race. Even though you owed Blake absolutely nothing at all, you were fearful about what could potentially happen to you with three strikes.
Hence, you knew that the safest/smartest thing for you to do would be to stay in the safe confines of the library for the rest of the day—
“Y/N?” the librarian asked, knowing you personally since you frequented the bookshelves a lot. “Shouldn’t you be heading to second period?”
“O-oh, yeah,” you stammered, unable to come up with a good excuse since you’re a horrible liar. “R-right.”
Feeling defeated, you slumped out of the safe library and entered the crowded hallways. Like all transition times, the hallways were tightly packed with students, shoulder-to-shoulder. It seemed like they could possibly shield you from a certain bully’s eyes.
Ducking low, you tried to sneak to your next class as best as you could. You were able to stay low and avoid detection. A little ounce of hope began to form deep within your gut, and for a brief moment, you truly believed that everything would be okay and that the whole mess from today would be nothing more than a sour memory that you’d grimace at whenever it’d flicker into your head—
“Hey! Y/N!” called a familiar, deep voice.
You winced at first, but then let out a sigh of relief when you saw none other than Jonathan approaching you.
Jonathan was the happy-go-lucky quarterback on the football team. He smiled warmly at you, and gave you a tiny wave… and truth be told, you couldn’t help but smile back the slightest bit when his grin reached your eyes. Yeah, he might be a little cute (but you’d never, ever try since your lack of a self-esteem prohibits you from asking people out). You kinda wished that it was Jonathan, and not Blake, who wanted you. Jonathan was actually nice to people!
“We still on for our tutoring session tonight?” Jonathan asked as soon as he was by your side.
Oh! You’d totally forgotten, given all of the turmoil from today. You’d promised the football player that you’d help him study for his upcoming Physics final. As his way of paying you, the two of you would often meet up at a coffee shop or little restaurant, and he’d pay for your meal.
The lonely part of you would sometimes pretend it was date. Sad? Yes. But still.
You were about to nod when the cold memory of Blake’s eerie text replayed in your mind. He’d strictly prohibited you from talking to other guys. Although, technically you were breaking that rule now by talking to Jonathan; and it’s not like you owed the school bully a gosh darn thing. But still, you didn’t want him mad at you! And going out to tutor the quarterback of the football team would definitely piss off Blake!
Wait…
The quarterback of the football team had requested your company.
The quarterback of the football team who worked out religiously and had muscles for days, and who could probably throw down with Blake need the situation arise (which you bet it would).
“Yes!” you eagerly said, blushing a little bit at how desperate you sounded. “Of course we’re still on.” You nervously looked around the crowded hallway, nearly shrieking in horror at what you saw:
Blake stood at the other end of the hallway, his eyes narrowed in your direction. His gaze kept switching between the petrified you and the oblivious Jonathan.
“Y/N? You okay?” Jonathan innocently asked. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
Something like that.
“Um,” you muttered in your shaky voice, which grew even more shaky as soon as Blake began to shove himself through the crowd towards you, “you know what? I actually have a free period now! So, why don’t we start the tutoring now!”
You grabbed a tight hold of Jonathan’s forearm and led the confused jock through the hallway, away from Blake as fast as you could.
“Sure…?” Jonathan agreed, sounding confused beyond belief.
The two of you quickly exited the school and reached his car in the parking lot, which you eagerly hopped into. You locked the door behind you and held your breath in anticipation, refusing to exhale until Jonathan started up the car and pulled out of the parking lot.
Your relief was short lived, however, as you saw Blake staring daggers at you as you were driven away. He looked pissed off beyond recognition, and he held up his hand, holding up three fingers.
Strike three.
To be continued...

Pierced by a Golden Soul
Chapter 5. Know Your Enemy Part 2
Platonic Jojo's x Reader
Summary: Fate is a bizarre concept with countless more bizarre implications. In life sometimes such extraordinary events happen that the only reasoning left must be fate. The tragedies that constantly befall the Joestar bloodline for example may be the unluckiest series of cards drawn in human history, or perhaps the work of a greater power. There is no way to tell for sure. Had Dio Brando or Jonathan Joestar moved slightly on a divergent path the world itself would be left very different. The fate or luck of the noble Joestar bloodline has led to destruction of evil likes of the Pillar Men and DIO. This story is of a similar caliber to that of the other Joestars (as I am sure you are familiar with them). This is a story of lost souls, compassion, hope, and above all fate.
Word Count: 3,125
(Crosspost from Wattpad, full fic is already posted there.)
"Son of a-"Know Your Enemy was knocked aside by some buff purple dude, causing the dictionary copies to disappear. You watched in disbelief as the stand growled and ran out of the room.
"What exactly is going on here kid?" The purple guy dissipated and right behind him stood Mr. Kujo.
"Um. Would you believe it if I told you I don't know either?" You answered, looking up at the man.
"Give me a break." The guy tipped his hat in front of his face. "You're a stand user, aren't you?"
"Yeah." You summoned your stand just to show him. He looked it over with a blank expression. This was odd. Two stand users in one day? You hoped these encounters wouldn't become a pattern.
"Do you know where the user is?" Jotaro asked abruptly. You paused, trying to wrap your head around the fast-moving situation.
"Its user was snooping around in the front office. He probably left after his stand started chasing me, but I'm not sure."
"Alright then." The man nodded, turning to leave.
"Hang on! Where are you going?"
"What does it look like? I'm going to track down the user." He looked back your way. "You coming?" He sighed. You stood in the darkened classroom, staring blankly at Mr. Kujo. Was he being serious?! Why was he so calm?!
"I-" You weighed your options. Either you helped this guy track down Blake and his stand, and possibly figure out more about your own stand; or you could just walk away and pretend you didn't see anything. Jotaro was just about to leave the room when you answered. "Wait up. I'll help." You relented.
"Just don't be a nuisance got it? And try to not get hurt."
"Yeah, got it." You nodded nervously.
You followed the man out into the hallway. It was like he had trained for the situation, and entered high alert mode.
"What's your name kid?" He asked while keeping his eyes on every possible place the stand could be hiding.
"Y/n." You said, trying to follow the man's gaze as it darted around.
"I'm Jotaro Kujo." He responded. "What about your stand?"
"What about my stand?"
"What's its ability?"
"I'm not sure?  Is it supposed to do something? I didn't even know what these were until yesterday. I haven't exactly had the time to experiment." You shrugged. Jotaro looked at you with a bit of annoyance.
"How much have you figured out so far?"
"The fact that they're called stands is the extent of my concrete knowledge sir." You told him nervously. This Jotaro guy was really intimidating. He sighed.
"Look, I don't have the time to give you every last detail so here are the basics:  Only stand users can see stands, only stands can touch or harm other stands, and damage done to a stand reflects onto the user, every stand has its own unique ability. Got it?"
"U-uh. Yeah, I guess so." You did your best to commit the rules to memory. Somehow you felt that knowing them would help you in the long run. As you blindly followed Jotaro, the uncanny feeling of being followed crept up your spine. Slowly, you turned around. Down the darkened hallway behind you was the stand, smiling and leaning against a wall of lockers. You cursed, Know Your Enemy was terrifyingly good at sneaking around.
"Have you ever heard of Sun Tzu?" Know Your Enemy smirked at you. Jotaro's attention was immediately brought to the stand as it slowly started walking towards you. "He was a Chinese military strategist during the 6th century. 'To know your enemy. You must become your enemy' it's a sentiment I can get behind!" The stand touched a nearby wall with its hand. A copy of the wall sprang up between where you and Jotaro stood. Affectively separating the two of you.
You frantically searched for the stand but there was no sign of it. The wall that had sprung up out of nowhere seemed to go on forever. You took out your own stand and had it punch the wall.
"Muda!"
"Ow!" Pain erupted in your hand. The same hand that your stand had used. It was a shock to experience the phantom pain for the first time. There was a small dent in the wall, but the copy held up. It was much sturdier than those pens you had stopped earlier. A nearby intercom buzzed.
"That's what you get for punching a solid wall!" Blake's voice taunted over the school intercom. "If you and Mr. Kujo just left the school on time like you were supposed to this wouldn't be happening." You tried to see if there were any doors nearby, but every single one as far as you could see had disappeared. "Now I'm going make this a very bad day for you both." Blake's laughter faded out as the intercom shut off. Suddenly the walls around began to move. There weren't many paths for to take, it was dark in the building, so navigating was quickly becoming more and more difficult. The halls around you didn't look familiar anymore, the walls had come to life, moving and configuring into something completely unrecognizable.
"Boo."
You turned around only for a fist to fly into your stomach. The force knocked you back and onto the floor. You clutched the area and groaned in pain as you slowly tried to stand.  When you looked up you were faced with the towering figure of Jotaro, and two more Jotaros walking up from behind him.
"Crap." You muttered as the Jotaros moved in to attack. The fighting experience you had in your life was negligible, so instincts were all you could rely on. As you summoned your stand you noticed something odd, navy-blue auras began to radiate off of each Jotaro.
The closest copy got to close for comfort so you kicked it in the shins. The copy reeled back, shifting in stiff, mannequin like positions before lifelessly falling to the ground. The one following received a punch from your stand. When the third copy tried to attack your stand his hand phased right through it, he stumbled past you and fell.
From what you could gather, the copies made by Know Your Enemy were tangible, material made by a stand. That's why the teacher could see the copy of Blake earlier, and why the Jotaro copies couldn't attack your stand directly. With all of your opponents on the floor you had the leverage to kick them. Using your stand, you got rid of the Jotaros, each were silent as their bodies shattered and disappeared. You stood alone in the empty hall, squinting into the darkness trying to decide on what to do next.
Footsteps echoed in the hallway and yet another Jotaro appeared. You took up your best imitation of a fighting stance, like the ones you had seen in movies. The 'Jotaro' raised both hands as if in surrender.
"Whoa! Slow down! I'm real!" 'Jotaro' smiled at you nervously. You watched him skeptically as he came closer. He moved stiffly, bending only at the joints as he walked.
"If you really are Mr. Kujo..." You glared at the newcomer. "What's the name of my stand?" You suspected this was a copy, and the way he was acting only made it more obvious.
"O-obviously your stand is named uh...." 'Jotaro' gave your stand a once over, a few beads of sweat trickled down his face. "Golden Wind?"
"Muda!"
You sucker punched the copy hard enough for it to shatter on impact. None of these copies seemed very bright.
"Jokes on you Fuxtaro. I haven't named it yet." Your stand's head turned to you. The robotic facial expression was still the same but something about the way it turned around gave an air of offense. Could stands get offended? "Don't look at me like that." You sighed. "We're in the middle of something. I'll—name you later...?" Your stand nodded, seemingly understanding the answer, and dissipated.
Taking a deep breath, you looked around at the surrounding walls, they were still shifting. The only thing that had really stayed the same was the tiled floor at your feet and the ceiling. There had to be a way out of here, right? First you had to find Jotaro, the real one. He seemed to know what he was doing.
There were no classroom doors nearby, but you noticed the security cameras. There was one right next to you, and another a few feet down the hall, a few feet after that was another. Did your school always have so many cameras? There was a red light blinking on the side of each one, indicating they were recording.
Slowly you made your way down a hallway to your left. You caught a glimpse of Blake's stand, as it ran past you, tapping you on the shoulder before running away. A wall appeared before you could chase Know Your Enemy.
......................................................................................................................................................................
Meanwhile, Jotaro was also navigating the hallways of your school. He had attempted punching through the wall that shot up between you and him. Whatever stand user was doing this obviously wanted to mess with him. If he broke the walls with his stand it may invite the user to create more obstacles.
The stand causing this was obviously very powerful. Jotaro was caught off guard by this situation. Years had passed since he last battled a stand, years since he had summoned his own stand. Jotaro looked over at Star Platinum, the stand looked slightly different. Maybe it was his memory betraying him, but Star Platinum looked like it had changed colors. Jotaro brushed the strange thought aside and had Star keep a lookout for the enemy.
Jotaro's mind wondered to you for a moment. He had the odd feeling he knew you, but at the same time didn't.
........................................................................................................................................................................
"What a drag. Here I thought this would be hard." Blake Greenmin giggled as he watched the wall of security footage in front of him. Blake smiled wickedly, turning on the school intercom. "Run and hide all you like; I can see everything in the school. You won't leave here alive!" Blake laughed maniacally as he turned the intercom off. "God you bastards are lucky copying people is hard. I can only give them simple commands..."
Blake glanced over the security footage. You and Jotaro were walking in completely different directions. Blake summoned Know Your Enemy and had it make a copy of you.
"Bring him here." He ordered.
........................................................................................................................................................................................
You made yet another futile attempt to navigate the hallways. This wasn't getting you anywhere. What else could you do? The red lights of the security cameras caught your eye again. Slowly, you approached the wall, summoning your stand. You had it reach up and smash the lens before quickly backing away. Quickly you looked up and down each hallway, waiting for something to attack. Nothing happened though.
Confused and tired you leaned against a nearby wall and slid down into a sitting position. Your stand just looked down at you as it remained standing.
"You wouldn't happen to have any ideas, would you?" You still weren't sure if this thing could think for itself or not. Much to your surprise your stand pointed at a nearby wall. You blinked a few times, trying to tell what exactly you were seeing. A few feet away you saw two strange lights, one was a gold-ish yellow, the other a familiar navy blue.
You squinted; the lights were moving away. You swung your hand in front of your face, and you were able to see the lights through your hand.
"What the hell?" you mumbled curiously. You got up and tried to move closer to the lights. The closer you got, the more the lights formed outlines. "Are you the one causing this?" You asked, looking at your stand. It shrugged.
Before you knew it, you were running, trying to keep up with the outlines, only to be abruptly blocked by a wall. No way was that of all things going to stop you. Immediately you had a theory. Your stand reached up to break the nearby security camera lens, before you could blink the wall standing in your way disappeared. It was one of the fake ones.
It was a long process of breaking random cameras before you finally got close to the source of the lights. You had rounded a corner but quickly ducked back behind it in shock. It wasn't every day you saw the back of your own head.
The copy wasn't attacking Jotaro. In fact it looked like it was leading him somewhere.
You stealthily followed the copy and Jotaro. If your hunch was right, it would lead you to Blake.
.......
Jotaro wasn't sure what to think when you waltzed up to him. Hadn't you been separated by the enemy? There was something off about you  now compared to earlier. Jotaro didn't have the time to question it, but there was something about the stiff way you walked that was off putting.
Your copy urged Jotaro to follow them to the front office.
"And here we are." Your copy said as it gestured to the office. "Blake should be in there."
"You're sure?" Jotaro asked skeptically.
"Yes."
You watched the exchange from a distance, not sure what you were supposed to do. Blake didn't like you in the slightest, and now knowing he had such a powerful ability, you could only imagine what he was ready to do.
Jotaro was led by your copy into the security room at the back of the office area. There was a large desk surrounded by a wall of screens, all showing black and white security footage.
"Okay we're here, now where is the user?" Jotaro watched your copy carefully.
"Oh my! It seems he left." Your double lamely lied. Jotaro glanced around the room, already weary from the clone's odd behavior. You followed Jotaro's gaze as it focused on the tiles in the ceiling. Strange, the ceiling tiles next to the wall were uneven, cut in half when they reached the wall. Almost like the wall was-
"Yare Yare. What a simple trick." Before you could even finish your thought Jotaro's stand appeared and destroyed the fake wall. The fake wall shattered and disappeared, revealing a flabbergasted Blake sitting at the surveillance desk. His expression quickly turned to one of malice.
"You saw through that?!" He yelled in disbelief.
Jotaro didn't say anything, he only glared at Blake while moving closer. The air in the room grew tense. Either stand could appear at any time, so who was going to make the first move?
"What are you going to do? Beat me up?" Blake backed away from Jotaro.
"That entirely depends on if you cooperate. Tell me how you got your stand." Jotaro said coolly.
Blake grit his teeth, that coupled with the way his body was shaking made it hard to tell if he was anxious or angry.
"Screw you!" Blake yelled having Know Your Enemy launch at Jotaro. In the blink of an eye Blake was on the floor, the beginnings of an impressive bruise already forming on his face.
Your copy was slowly creeping up behind Jotaro. Quickly swallowing your fear, you jumped in before it could do anything. When Jotaro looked your way you sheepishly waved and backed up a few paces, not wanting to become a victim to his wrath. The moment Jotaro was distracted a sly smile crept across Blake's face. In one fluid motion he picked up a nearby piece of paper and had Know Your Enemy make copies of it.
Before you could process what was happening a whirlwind of papers filled the front office, completely obstructing your view. It was like being hit by a wave, you flailed around a bit trying to  reorient yourself, but just as quickly as the paper appeared it vanished along with Blake.
You blinked a few times in disbelief, trying to wrap your head around what had just happened.
"He- got away?!" You exclaimed looking around the now vacant room. Jotaro was faced away from you. He was looking at the only door to the office. You could tell he was at least a little pissed off. At this point you gathered that it was maybe part of his personality. "Shouldn't we go after him or something?"
"No. Don't worry about it. With luck he learned a lesson and won't mess with you anymore. If he does want trouble though he'll show himself eventually."
"I don't understand how you're so calm in this situation." You sighed deeply, taking a seat on a nearby desk.
"You handled this well enough for someone with no experience."
"Thanks..." you and Jotaro sat on silence for a moment. Your gaze slowly crept over to the wall clock. "CRAP!" You bolted up and moved toward the door. "I need to get home!"
Jotaro mumbled something to himself as he followed you out of the office. Thankfully the walls in the school shifted back to normal and you found your backpack very easily.
"Kid wait a minute." Jotaro said, causing you to halt putting on your backpack. Jotaro pulled a business card out of his pocket and handed it over to you. "If anything like this happens again I want you to contact me."
"SPW?" You asked, reading the seemingly random letters off the card. Under the letters there was a phone number.
"Just tell whoever answers that you need to speak with me and we'll be in touch."
"Alright then..." you placed the card in your wallet, bade Jotaro an awkward goodbye and walked home as fast as humanly possible.
..................................................................................................
Blake stumbled past pedestrians and businesses with labored breathing. After finding himself a fair distance from the school he decided to stop and catch his breath.
"Dammit!" He seethed, leaning against the wall of an alley way and sitting down.
"It appears you've had a very rough day." A dark figure emerged from the opposite end of the alley. He was tall, and dressed...oddly. Blake tried to back away from the man, but he was pretty much cornered.
"H-hang on- I recognize you!"   Blake was tempted to scream but the man motioned to stay quiet.
"You've started realizing your full potential." The guy gave a sinister smirk in Blake's direction.
"How did you know that?" Blake pressed himself against the alley wall.
"You'll know in due time my friend." The guy stepped back, trying to show he meant no ill will. "I'm here to propose to you a partnership." Blake looked the guy up and down critically.
"You're kidding." Blake laughed humorlessly "No offense dude but I need some explanation."
"First I need you to tell me who got in your way today. Do you know their stand abilities? Their names?" The guy asked, growing impatient.
"How would I know their abilities? Kujo's stand is really strong that's for damn sure." Blake cringed, gently placing a hand on his bruised face.
"And the other one?" The guy pushed curiously.
"I didn't see them use their ability...they don't seem to really know what it is yet."
"What's their name?" Blake gave a malicious grin.
"Y/n Jones."

Chapter 2 - professional
I run quickly back into the hall, trying to avoid the group approaching. I just manage it. I find Jenna and pull her into a corner.
"It's them!"
"What?" Her brow burrows with confusion.
"Stray kids. You were right, well 3 of them. The producing unit." A smile appears on her face as she revels in this only way a best friend could.
"That includes the leader doesn't it?" That's why she was smirking. She knows my phone wallpaper is a photo of him. " he's you fave isn't he? Sorry bias." The shit eating grin on her face would be funny if I wasn't shitting bricks. "You should probably change your phone background" she giggles.
I change it to a picture of my mum and me on holiday in London.
" okay breaks over, Y/N it's your solo." Jonathan calls over. I clamor off the bleachers and make my way to the centre. Jenna and I run our few lines of dialogue before the routine and then the doors to the right of me quietly open and they walk in.
I have to be professional but every fibre of my being is telling me to stop cause I'll make a fool of myself. The music starts, it's some old 70s pop song, and I'm kicking and moving just like I'm supposed to. I'm shimmying and moving my hips to the rhythm and after a few minutes the music ends. Everyone claps. I love working in such a encouraging environment.
I take a few to catch my breath and it happens. I see Ryan leading them over to me, Jenna and tash and we're trying not to freak out.
"Y/N!" He greats me with open arms which I happily hug into.
"Ryan!" I let go " and Blake! It's so good to see you in the flesh again" I say as I pull her into a hug.
"And here are the movies musical composers. Y/N I know you know of them" He says teasingly nudging me in the arm.
"Composer's? That's so cool!! My favourite band, doing the music for my favourite books film, produced by my favourite person and her husband!" Blake and the 3ratcha boys smirk whilst Ryan sarcastically laughs. " I'm Y/N" I say to the boys with an outstretched arm.
" changbin" He says as he shakes my hand
"Jisung, or Han, or Peter if you want!?" Han says almost like the words are falling out of his mouth.
"Chris!" There he is. I make eye contact as he holds my hand. I must be delusional as a feel a spark. Need to take my anti delulu meds.
" yeah I know you guys. I'm a big fan. A stay!" I say awkwardly as if I haven't been hyper fixated on them for the past 3 years.
" That's so cool!" Chan says, his Australian accent standing out amongst the sea of Americans I'm now used to hearing.
"You're not American?" Changbin asks me
"English, from near Yorkshire. But I do have an American accent in the film" I say slipping into the accent.
"That's so cool. People tell me I sound English when I speak English." Han chimes in.
"Maybe southern English, but like London not Essex or cornish." I reply.
" there's different ones?" Ryan jokes.
I'm keeping my cool, but I can't help but feel hot under Chris's gaze. Or what I think is his gaze, I haven't looked at him since I introduced myself, but I can feel his eyes on me. I shoot a look and smile in his direction. He was looking. Fuck. I'd prefer it if I was just being Deluded, but no, he's staring at me and once I make eye contact he smirks. Fuck this man.
"So they'll be spending a few weeks here on set getting to really feel the heart of the film. To really understand the characters and their relationships" Blakes words break through my spiralling.
"That sounds so fun! We'll have to show you round!" Tash suggests. She's become quite the stay in the past few minutes. What can I say, these boys have an effect on people.
"That's lunch" Jonathan yells.
The hoard of crew and cast make their way to the dining area, I trail behind trying to come to terms with the fact this is my life. Blake joins me at the tail.
"You feeling better today?" She asks. In all the excitement I'd completely forgotten the complete melt down I'd had last night. I went to bed as soon as I got in and cried myself to sleep. I wish there was a reason why, but there isn't. I should be happy. I am. I've got my dream job! Yet I still feel empty.
"Yeah" I say trying to reassure her, it doesn't really work. "I'm sorry I rang you so late last night, it must've been a pain in the arse" the apology rushes out my mouth. She stops me and looks at me in the eyes, as she places her hands on my shoulders.
"No. Stop dismissing how you feel. There is no need to apologise. I'm here for you" she says pulling me into a hug. In her arms I feel myself let go of tension I didnt realise had built up.
I wish my mum was here. She'd hold my hand through all of this. I'm too scared to tell her anything is wrong, cause she can't do anything from back home and I know she'd get on the next plan over. I can't do that to her. She has a life outside of me and I need to prove to myself I can do this on my own. Plus I'm scared I'd seem ungrateful.
Blake let's go, but loops her arm through mine.
"Now let's get lunch!"

Hay there
I'm just havng one of those bad moments of the month and i wanted to ask if you can do some headconens with "the puppeteer", I'm not sure if you write him so if you don't bloody painter and jane can also slove the sadness. Not comforting but fluff headconnens 🙂
Also can i be the '🎼 anon' ?
Welcome, darling anon!!
I'm so sorry you're having a rough time right now... Hopefully, this will cheer you up a bit! I had to reread a bit of the Puppeteer's story which was kinda fun (it's been so long). And if you ever aren't sure who I write for, just send in an ask! I hope you enjoy this!!
Tumblr media
I think that initially, Puppeteer would be very standoff-ish.
He’s a cold, cruel, manipulative spirit with no regard for the feelings of others.
Which is why he’d distance himself when he first starts catching feelings for you.
He can still remember what made him this way, he can still feel the sting of the heartbreak that drove him to death and cruelty.
You would need to show him that you love him, only then will he begin to open up to you.
It’s a slow process.
But once he starts falling for you, he falls hard.
Once the two of you are in a relationship, he’d be extremely protective of you.
Again, what made him this way was the heartbreak, and he doesn’t want that to happen for a second time.
He’d want to be keeping tabs on you at all times, so you’d need to set some boundaries with him early on.
He needs reassurance. Reassurance that you still love and accept him. He does have his own insecurities when it comes to you.
In the end, though, he’d bend over backward for you. Anything you desire, he’ll get for you by… pulling a few strings. (pun intended)
He wants to shower you with gifts, he wants to give you all the affection he has, he wants you to be happy so you won’t leave him.
And while you’re flattered beyond belief by all the gifts and gestures from him. Sometimes you just want to spend time with him.
Just sit down together and watch a movie or play a game.
Even just cuddling together on the couch and talking for a bit.
He might be a little thrown for a second, worried that he might’ve been doing something wrong.
But after that, he’d be more than happy to relax with you for a bit.
He’ll start to tone things down after that. He’ll still bring you gifts every so often, but he also understands that what you really want is quality time and he grows to love that too.
He loves being able to hold you, to feel your warmth no matter what the context is.
Sitting watching a movie? His arm is around your shoulder. Playing a game? He’s pulled you into his lap. Relaxing on the couch together? He has you cradled in his arms.
You’ve become the most important thing to him, and he’ll do anything to make sure you’re safe and happy. Even if that means taking some extreme measures.
A very loyal boyfriend~

Under Atomic Skies {John Blake x Reader}
Requested by: Anonymous Wordcount: 2558 Summary: John Blake would do just about anything to keep his family safe.
You looked over at John as he came into your cozy little Gotham home. His mouth was set in a grim line against the contours of his handsome face. You could feel the stress radiating off of him. “Did the kids see?” He asked, turning off the television that you were sitting in front of. You shook your head in a no, and he sighed in relief. They were playing in their rooms, your son and your daughter. The blasts in the street had caused the house to rumble, but they didn’t ask any questions. They just played earthquake’. You didn’t want to explain to them what happened until your husband, John, got home with his own explanation. And what he said, all of it, it broke your heart. This was the city you both grew up in. This was the city you had fallen in love in. Gave birth in, raised your kids in, got a mortgage in, worked in, made your home. And it was being threatened once more.
Tumblr media
“There’s going to be riots, and looting, and who knows what else,” You said, your eyes looking over to the front door. There were three locks on it already, with John being a bit of a cautious man. With you being a cop’s wife. But those three didn’t seem enough when you were now the wife of the only cop, or detective, left to protect the city. The rest were caught in the underground. John’s partner included. “What are we going to tell the kids? Is Ross alright? Should we move to a safe house?”
“Ross is fine, I’ve already figured out where he is. There’s a sewer grate right above them, I can talk to him,” John said, which made you give your own sigh of relief. Your husband’s partner was like family, your kids even called him Uncle Ross. “I have hope in Gotham, we’ll get through this, sweetheart.”
But you weren’t so sure. You loved this city, but it tended to turn out bad people one after another. Thieves, mobsters, even an evil clown. And now this man who called himself Bane. It was safe to say that you were terrified, and wished that you shared in your husband’s positivity. In his hope. It was one of the things that you loved best about him. And things usually turned out pretty okay. The city had John Blake - it was going to be okay.
--
The days started to seem shorter as the countdown to the bomb began. There just didn’t seem to be enough time in the day to really appreciate each and every one. John was gone most of the time, working as a Detective, working with Batman, being the only cop in a city which was run by madness. You hardly ever left the house, and when you did, it was to go to the boys’ orphanage and help out there. There was no point in trying to work from home right now, the business was down the toilet. So you took on volunteering at the boys home, bringing your kids with you so you could keep an eye on them all at the same time. Father Reilly appreciated your help.
“It’s good for the boys to see a friendly face,” He admitted to you as you were passing out juice boxes to the kids. “All of them seemed to be glued to the news the days. They’re too young for such things. Too innocent.”
“If I wasn’t here, I’d be doing the same,” You admitted to the friendly father. You kept pressing that smile on your face, just as John did when he came home and gave the kids a huge hug each night. But the news was wearing you down. Scarecrow, Dr Jonathan Crane, was acting as judge, jury and executioner. All of the major shopping centers were looted as ‘wealth’ was dispersed in the way of material goods. You never joined in on any of that. You weren’t going to let the city take you down with it.
“There’s always hope,” Father Reilly said, putting his hand on your shoulder in solidarity. “That’s something I learned from being around these boys. No matter what life throws at them, they still play with a smile on their face.”
“It’s hard not to stay hopeful with John around,” you admitted, sitting on a bench with a juicebox of your own. You looked out over Gotham. There was still smoke in the air. There was always smoke in the air. The sounds of chanting from the courthouse. Vehicles still moving about down there, despite there really being nowhere to go. John had filled you in that one of those large trucks was carrying around the bomb, and your eyes caught on one as it turned a corner a few blocks down. It was terrifying, knowing that it was so close. But you still had a few days before it would go off. There was still time to find it. There was time to fix this whole mess. “Include John in your prayers tonight for me, father? It can’t hurt for us to be a little louder.”
“I already include him every night, y/n,” Father said, sitting beside you, stretching out his old leg bones. He was no longer the young man who used to chase John around this very building. The stress was taking a toll on him, and had even before the bombings. “And all of those officers stuck under the city.”
“They’re getting food and water, and vitamin D tablets,” You explained. “John and Ross have been keeping in touch. He’s even been scouting out an area where he might be able to get them out. He’s been working nonstop on this. I hope that when it’s all over, I can convince him to take a break.”
“Good luck asking him to take a break from anything,” Father Reilly laughed. It was the first real laugh you had heard since this whole thing began, at least from someone other than a child. It made you grin. You knew that it was absolutely true. John was one of the most dedicated people in this city. And when he believed in something, whether it’s in Batman, or in you, he never gave up on it. He’d fight til the end.
--
The day after tomorrow. The bomb was going to blow, according to John. The military still weren’t letting people go across the bridge. They were even threatening to blow that up themselves to stop people. Most of the population didn’t know, they were much too busy fighting each other to realize that Bane wasn’t actually going to give a detonator to an ordinary citizen. Or that an ordinary citizen would even want this city to blow up. He had to have the detonator all this time. And with Batman missing again, and the cops still trapped, and only very few people actually working on the streets... even your hope was beginning to wane. And John’s.
You moved into the shelter with the boys, taking care of them, tucking them in, acting like the mother that they never had. Because if all went wrong, this would be their last few days and they deserved to feel that love. You put the blankets over them, made sure that they had their bears which they were given as emotional support, and gave them each a peck on the forehead. Even the older boys, so quick to shun the bears since they were childish, needed something to hold onto.
The day before the bomb went off was chaotic. All of your rations were packed away to take off in the morning, just in case things didn’t work out. John was convinced that the military would see reason and let a bus full of children across. And you, importantly. He wasn’t going to be able to go on if anything happened to you, he admitted.
“You just do your job, Detective Blake,” You said, laying in bed with him, looking into his big, dark brown eyes. “And keep up hope that everything is going to turn out alright. It’s like that saying you know I love so much. Everything will be okay in the end, and if it’s not okay, then it’s not the end. We have to remain optimistic about this. Not just for us, but for the kids.”
--
The bomb was set to go off in less than an hour. All of the kids, the father, a few other works, John and yourself had piled onto the schoolbus and tried to get out to the bridge. The military were guarding it cautiously. Too cautiously. Guns were pointed not only at you, who had gotten out to support John, and your husband. Father Reilly was giving up hope. But you weren’t. The second that John had gotten the door unlocked, you slipped through it, standing in front of him.
“Please,” You pleaded, stepping forward tentatively. Your eyes were struggling to meet the soldier’s, and not just focus on his gun. “I’m asking you not as a citizen of Gotham, but as a mother. As a human being. These children are innocent in all of this. If they don’t leave, they’re going to get killed anyway. Have you seen the riots, and the looting, and all of the crime? Is that an environment you want your kids raised in?”
“You need to get back,” The soldier said, though his voice was shakier than before.
“Please, do not shoot,” John yelled, his accent cutting through the air. He walked up alongside you, badge in hand, those hands up towards the sky. He stepped in alongside you, then a step ahead, protecting you. Always acting like your human shield. Warning shots came towards you, to the ground by your feet.
“Get back,” John whispered to you. And you didn’t fight him on that, you went right back behind the chain-link door with the others, but watched with worried eyes. Your fingers slipped through the holes, gripping onto the metal. However much John worried about you getting hurt, you worried right back. Tenfold. The city would be lost without him. You would be lost without him, so would the kids.
“Detective, please, stop!” The young looking officer barked out. He looked as scared as you felt. But John was stubborn, and wasn’t going to stop for anything. He took two steps forward. More bullets shot near his feet, sending little shocks of light. That made him pause, but not stop. Another step. “STOP WALKING.” He looked towards another soldier that was with him and said the words that made your heart stop. “BLOW IT.”
The two men disappeared behind the shelters made of sandbags. “John-” You cried out, hoping to God that he would turn around and walk back to you before the explosives would go off.
“DO IT.” The soldier ordered.
Your stubborn husband. He made another step before the explosives detonated. Smoke filled your vision, but you saw that he was thrown backwards. You went through the door again, coughing through the dark and acrid smoke, trying to find him. A whole section of the bridge fell from existence, causing a rumble that made you fall. A hand caught your own, and you could feel from familiarity that it was John’s.
“YOU SONS OF BITCHES,” John said, getting onto his feet and pulling you up alongside with him. He had his arms around you, still shielding you from the military. You avoided looking at them now, because John was speaking what you were thinking. “YOU KILLED US.”
It was hard to maintain that hope in the face of this much adversity, but you had to try. He was moving back towards the door, back towards the kids. You stopped him outside of the bus, wrapping your arms around his shoulders, and brought him in for what might be your last hug. “You’ve done everything that you can, my love,” You said, looking into his dark eyes. “I have faith in the Batman. And in Gordon. They’re figuring this out, and if they don’t then - then you cannot blame yourself. You risked your life time and time again. Gotham can not ask any more from you.”
John nodded, but you could still see the frustration on his face. But then another expression took over it. One of hope. And wonder. He pointed behind you, towards the skies, towards the water. You turned around to see that there was some black thing flying through the air, holding what looked to be-
- the bomb.
It was being flown over the waters, towards the sea, away from Gotham. Batman had come through. There was no mistaking who else it could be in that jetblack air craft. Nobody else had the technology for that. Your hands went to your heart, holding it in because it was beating so quickly, it felt like it might pop out. John put his arms around you from behind. All of the kids rushed to one side of the bus to look out of the windows. There were excited voices coming from everywhere.

Then the bomb went off. You could see the explosion from where you were. It caused a stiff wind to blow towards you. The bridge rippled as the water beneath it did as well. It was a wonder that the windows of the bus didn’t break. But it was gone, and it was over. And though you felt relieved, you looked up at John with sorrow. He had believed in the Batman, more than he believed in his own police force. But at least the threat against your family, for now, was over and done with.
--
When you first saw him wearing the mask and the suit, you were worried. Who wouldn’t be? He was taking over the moniker of Batman and all of the enemies that brought along with it. But at least he had promised that he would wear the mask, something he had sworn never to do in the first place. But he had you to think about, and the kids. He’d already had an enemy threaten you, with Bane and the entire city, and he realized this wasn’t just about playing heroics. It was about taking care of his own. His people. Gotham’s people.
“Are you going to be home to tuck the kids into bed?” You asked, before John set off to go to the underground bunker. Even you didn’t know the exact location. The less you knew, the better.
“I’ll try to be,” He said, cupping your chin and pressed a sweet and loving, though quick, kiss upon your lips. “Don’t wait up for me though.”
“Easier said than done,” You said. He chuckled, knowing that was the truth, gave you a long look like he was memorizing your face, then disappeared out into the evening twilight, to get ready to prowl the night in his newly assigned role as The Batman.

Chapter 6
As time passed by, you let your walls come down, and so did Bane. He allowed you to visit him in his private chambers in the sewers, where no one in their right mind would dare to go, and you got to know him better by observing his “man cave”,  and by his behavior when you were alone there, on in your penthouse.
Bane was far more than muscles and cruelty; you started to see that more clearly by the way he treated you. He wasn’t the typical sweet, but he had his own ways of being lovely and showing you he cared, when he wanted to.
You knew that having feelings for Bane was a terrible idea, but that never stopped you anyway. You couldn’t describe these feelings you had for him, even if you wanted to, but  you knew they were a dangerous mix of admiration, attachment, affection, attraction, care, engagement, and even if you didn’t want to admit it, there was a pinch of love. The more you tried to deny them, and the more you got to know Bane, the more those feelings grew.
There was some humanity left in you, but was there any humanity left in Bane? Could he understand how you felt, or see himself through your eyes? Probably not, you thought, so you decided to keep your secret to yourself. You had a mission, it was crucial to set your emotions aside, and focus on your role in Bane’s plans for Gotham.
Jonathan Crane often popped up in the sewers, to discuss business before making any decision, he knew exactly what would happen to him in case his actions displeased Bane. Bane often received him, but if he wasn’t fit to do so, you did. This was the case.
“Hello, miss Bane…” – He smirked, mocking you.
“You know, I do have a name, and that’s not it mate.” – You didn’t even bother looking at him, and put diamond rings on your fingers.
“I need to see Bane.”
“No shit, Sherlock…” – You smirked and did the same on the other hand. – “Look, he’s not available right now. So, you can either wait or tell me what you want and I deliver him the message.”
“I believe it is better if I talk to him in person…”
“Hmmm… We’ll see about that.” – You wrapped your hands in black cloth and then clenched your fists, throwing a punch and breaking a pile of bricks with a blow. – “This is really nice! I feel like I could even beat Bane’s ass now!” – You looked at the wraps in your hands and laughed.
“Can you?” – Heavy steps could be heard coming from behind you, you saw a shadow and turned. It was Bane.
“Well, no… But just because I wouldn’t want to hurt you.” – You smirked. – “You’ve got an unexpected visitor.” – You pointed to Crane.
“I’m seeing…. To what do I owe the pleasure, Doctor Crane?” – He crossed his arms.
“I think I found the last of Batman’s disciples.”
“I’m all ears.” – Bane opened his arms, waiting for answers.
“John Blake, some fucking detective who’s still out there, plotting against you…”
“Alright, and what do you suggest we do to him?” – Bane observed him, with narrowed eyes.
“I suggest we skip the whole Court thing. Seeing a disciple of Batman might give stupid ideas to some people.”
“Very well…” – Bane looked down, pondering.
“(Y/N).” – Crane called you.
“Let me guess… I fit somewhere in your plans.” – You clasped your hands and sucked your lower lip.
“I thought maybe you could fool him. You could lure him, in whichever way occurs you, and then finish him.”
“Hmm… So, let’s get some things clear here. First of all, how can ONE single guy represent a threat to our army? How can he be a threat when Gotham is completely immersed in chaos?”
“He could…”
You interrupted him.
“Second, I don’t fucking seduce or fool people…”
“Lure…” – He adjusted his glasses.
“Seduce, lure, whatever fancy word you chose to use, to describe what you want me to do. That’s not how I work, I’m no fucking bait.”
The plan of you seducing Blake didn’t please Bane, at all, but he wouldn’t say it out loud. Relief, this was what he felt when you denied to play along in Crane’s plan.
“Last but not least, I WON’T kill John Blake, YOU won’t kill John Blake , NO ONE will. You can give him a lesson if you want to, but you won’t kill him.  Honor is something I value, and he might be the last creature in Gotham who possesses such virtue. We all know how to be an orphan is, and how devastating it can be if you have no one to cling to. Blake is the only person who takes care of those children, the only one they can count on… And yes, I’m a fucking bitch, but not enough to be the one taking that away from those kids. And I’ll kill whoever does. Are we clear?” – You got closer and Jonathan swallowed hard, that was the only answer you needed. -  “Good.” – You turned on your heel and left that room.
“I think you better leave; we’ll decide what to do later.” – Bane told Crane.
Jonathan Crane left the sewers, and Bane searched for you. He knew Crane’s plan upset you.
“(Y/N)?” – He came  to his chambers, finding you sitting on his bed, and sitting beside you.
“I’m sorry; this was the only place where I knew I’d be alone.”
He rested his hand on your knee and you lifted your head, meeting his gaze.
“Do you have feelings for that John Blake? Is that why you don’t want to kill him?”
“WHAT? No, I don’t have feeling for John Blake , Bane, I don’t even fucking know him, just heard about him. I have feelings for…” – You sighed heavily, stopping yourself on time. – “Listen, I explained you both why, I meant that. You had a rough childhood too, you rescued Talia because you didn’t want her to have the same rough childhood you did, so I hope you understand my point here… It’s not about John Blake, it’s about the children he’s protecting.”
Bane looked down at you and pulled you closer to his chest.
“Let’s not think about that. I don’t want you to be sad, ok? I won’t do something you disapprove (Y/N).”
You held onto Bane’s arm and planted a kiss on it.
“Thanks for listening to me, when no one else does. It means a lot.” – You bit your lower lip and hid your face in his chest.
Bane viewed you as a strong woman, but even though you were both criminals, sometimes he couldn’t help but seeing you as the most fragile thing in his world, which lead him to feel an immense need of protecting you. He let his guards down around you; sometimes you could see the man behind the mask. Being with you, protecting you, his presence in your life…It wasn’t about having power over you, it was about love and a desperate need he had to make things right with you, hoping things between you would work.
“Do you want to the stay the night?” – He asked with a smile in his eyes, stroking your hair. Bane was getting used to your presence, to your smile, to your smell.
“I do.” – You turned your head lightly, just enough to be able to kiss his hand.
He tucked you in his bed, laying by your side, his elbow resting on the pillow, with his face on his hand, just watching you as you fell asleep. Bane didn’t sleep that night; he just drifted in his own thoughts. He knew the weight of his secrets, but what consequences would they have, if you found out about them?
You knew something was going on , because  Bane was acting weird; sometimes he was the sweetest, other days he was distant and seemed to lose his typical focus and control. You wouldn’t ask why, you’d just wait for him to get it off his chest if he wanted to.
In the next morning, when you woke up, Bane wasn’t there anymore. You got up and searched for him.
“Bane?”
You heard nothing but deafening silence. Maybe he was out, you thought, although he didn’t usually leave without you, or at least not without warning you. You kept searching, and found him exercising; he didn’t really need to, he just did it when he needed to unwind. This only confirmed the suspicion that something was off.
“I thought you had left the sewers already…” – You sat down, watching him.
“As you can see, I didn’t.” – He just kept doing an insane amount of push ups.
You realized he wasn’t in the mood for talking so you got up.
“Ok…” – You turned to leave.
He got up and you could hear his steps behind you.
“When this mission ends, what will that mean for us?” – His hand rested on your waist, and he gently turned you, making you face him.
“One of two things…” – You smiled and he looked at you expectantly. – “Success or death.”
“That’s not what I…” – You hear a sigh, muffled by his mask. – “I guess you’re right.”
“I always am…” – Your fingers brushed his forearm, in a gentle caress.
“But will we still be together?” – His eyes followed your fingers and then stared back into your eyes.
“Maybe in Blackgate, maybe in Arkham Asylum, maybe in the cemetery…” – You wrinkled your nose. – “But yes, we’ll be together. I’ll stand by you, as long as you want us to.”
Bane wasn’t sure if your answer made it easier or harder for him to make decisions. He was now torn between the two women of his life: he wanted to help Talia with her goal, but now he cared about you as well; he didn’t know if he wanted to be a part of that suicidal mission anymore, much less if it would cost your life, when you didn’t even know it would. He used to think his only purpose was destruction, but when you came into his life, he started to wonder if there could be more, if there could be a whole new life beside you.
Your moment was interrupted by the frenzy in the main part of the sewers. You could hear Bane’s men shouting and calling him, in the distance.
“Trouble in paradise…” – You rolled your eyes and walked with Bane, to check what was going on.
Heavily armed men were dragging a familiar figure, with green hair and heavy makeup, who laughed uncontrollably.
“Bane, we found him roaming around the sewers.”
“And what would you want from me, clown?” – Bane crossed his arms, clearly not satisfied, and you feared what he could do to Joker.
“Nothing.” – He plastered an evil, maniac smile on his face, liking his lips and then looked at you. – “But you, I would love to have a word with you!” – He released from the men’s grip. – “There’s no need for such hostility; we’re among friends, right?” – He shrugged and slid his hand on his greasy hair.
“What are you doing here?” – You looked at him, surprised he was there.
“Oh, my Queen of Hearts, I expected a warmer welcome… But I can explain, I went to your house, and you weren’t there, so I thought you’d be here, with your…” – He clasped his hands, with a dark expression, and looked down at them. – “Partner.” – He said this last word bitterly, almost venomously, and then looked back up.
“What do you want?” – You came closed.
“I would like to talk to you…” – His cold fingers traced your cheek, giving you chills, while he looked  at Bane and his men. – “Privately.”
“Hmm…”
“And with no guns on my face, please, that’s extremely uncomfortable.” – He rolled his eyes, licking his lips.
“There’s no way…” – Bane begun to talk, but you interrupted him.
“I got this.” – You dropped all the guns you had on you. – “Shall we?” – You gestured with your hand, showing Joker the way.
“See? That’s how I like it!” – He put a hand on your waist while walking with you, knowing it made Bane go crazy, but that he wouldn’t do anything, because of you.
“Are you mad? Bane has a short temper, he could fucking kill you.” – You told him, as you arrived a more secluded part of the sewers, where you could both talk without unwanted guests.
“No, I’m not mad. I’m just a different kind of sane (Y/N). And he won’t kill me, because maybe I’ll kill him first.”
You gave him a disapproving look.
“No, you won’t.”
“You’re right, I won’t. YOU will.” – There it was, that dangerous smile of who had something evil in mind.
“What? That’s it, you fucking lost what was left of your mind.”
“I didn’t, and soon you’ll understand me.” – He took a detonator out of his left pocket, moving it from one hand to another and chanting the word “Boom”.
“What’s that?” – You stuttered, because you feared how far his madness would go. He threw the detonator to you, and you caught it.
“I think you know what that is, but please, let me describe it in other words: That, my dear, is your chance to revenge from someone who has been playing you aaaaaaall along, deceiving you from the beginning.”
“Are you nuts?” – You frowned. – “Forget I asked, you are.”
“I know you don’t believe me, even though I’m telling the truth, but soon I’ll have proof.” – He circled you, liking his lips quickly. – “Blind trust is a weakness, sometimes. Somewhere along the way you forgot this valuable lesson, maybe because you let your feelings get in the way…”
“What, I have no fee…”
“Come on, you can try, but you can’t to lie to me (Y/N). But more important, don’t lie to yourself. Now, as I was saying, those feelings made you gullible enough to think you were his true partner.”
“I am!” – You clenched your fists.
“No, you’re not. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but he’s loyal to someone else. He’s just playing you, you’re a mean to an end. I’m here just to open your eyes.”
“I don’t believe you. Why are you trying to turn me against him?” – You looked at him, on the brink of tears, feeling frustrated.
“I’m not. I’m trying to make you see the truth, which you deliberately chose to ignore.”
You sat down, not knowing what to believe anymore.
“Talia al Ghul, an... old friend of the big guy there.”
“I’ve heard about her…” – You swallowed hard, Joker’s story seemed more believable now.
“She’s in Gotham, I’ve been told. SHE’s his partner; she’s the one he’ll give his life for.”
“No, he would’ve told me.” – You barked.
“Oh my fool little girl… How would he get you into that suicidal mission of him, if he did? Oh, yes, in case you didn’t know, that bomb he threatens Gotham with, it’ll blow, no matter what. I bet he didn’t tell you that, did he? And guess who’s in charge… Not Bane. Talia uses Bane, Bane uses you… Like a cycle of fools.”
“That’s impossible.” – You closed your eyes, trying to convince yourself it wasn’t the truth, but the seed of doubt was already feeding your fears and worries, poisoning your soul.
“(Y/N), when the time comes, I will give you proof. You’ll be the one to push that button when I do, not me. You have more right to do it than I do. Push the button, and he, his tank, and his fucking lies will turn to ashes…” – He whispered the last part in your ear. – “ I’ll let you think about the subject, but you’ll  hear from me soon” – He turned and disappeared in the darkness.
You just sat there, putting the detonator on your pocket and  thinking about the remote possibility Joker was being honest with you, but it couldn’t be, you couldn’t bear such betrayal, not from Bane.
Sometimes you thought Bane could read your thoughts; anytime you were thinking about him, he just appeared.
“Has the clown left yet?” – He inspected the surroundings.
“Yes.” – You were looking at the floor, with saddened eyes and heart.
Bane sat by your side, turning his head, to face you.
“What’s wrong?” – He could read you too well.
“Nothing.” – You tried to lie.
“We both know he said or did something that upset you.” – He played with a lock of your hair.
“It doesn’t matter now. “ – You smiled faintly.
“I don’t like when he’s around you…” – Bane took your face between his hands, making you face him.
“He didn’t mean any harm, don’t worry, alright?” – Your hand involuntarily moved to caress his.
“Even so… I don’t like him or any other fucking idiot around you.” – He looked down, in deep thought.
“Why is that? I’m a big girl , I can take care of myself.” – You giggled, kissing his shoulder.
“Because you’re mine (Y/N), just mine, and I want to be the one to take care of you.” – His eyes darted back at you.
For a moment there was only silence. The doubt that was eating you from the inside was gone for a little while.
Your fingers intertwined on his. His eyes were different now, they were softer than ever, the portrayal of who he really was, and of how much he really cared about you. Your pensive look turned into a warm smile, the one he would kill or die for. There was something about his gaze you knew you could never find in someone else, as if in that moment your souls had connected. Could someone who made you feel like this be able to betray you?

Joining the yearbook committee was the most interesting thing Jonathan has done on his last year of high school. He wanted to end his senior year without making much of a fuss but his art teacher convinced him to join for extra credit so he pretty much just went with it. That, and the fact that people-watching has always been one of his interests.
It didn't bother him at first; after all, he's been so accustomed to being on the receiving end of nasty glares and judgmental side-eyes that he's learned to simply brush it off and move on. The one thing he worries about though is having to deal with people who go out of their way to mess with him. This is furthermore justified as just two minutes later, he was given a tip to capture more of the popular bunch because apparently, they make the entirety of the batch. It sounds absurd and stupid to Jonathan but he just goes with it like he always does even though every time he walks just an inch too close to the snarky ones, he feels like he's entering a starving lion's den at his own will just to be chewed up and spitted out. Really, his only motivation to even breathe in their direction is you.
Maybe it’s because he lacks it but he finds your confidence the most attractive. There’s just something in the way you walk and carry yourself that he finds so appealing. He admits that you are way out of his league and not only that, you’re also in the same social circle as the people who shit on him just for the heck of it. Still, Jonathan acknowledges that there exists contrast between your hard gaze of not taking shit from anyone, and your soft eyes that were almost kind. Almost.
He’s at internal conflict, really. He shouldn’t want anything to do with you just like you probably don’t want anything to do with him. Jonathan’s certain that you don’t even know his name nor do you give a damn about him which just makes him feel even more stupid for finding interest in you. He can’t help it though; it’s as if the more he tries to avoid you, the more that he gravitates towards you— like a rubber band. It’s subconscious, really, his mind goes auto-pilot every time you’re around that he almost can’t control himself. He notices that every time he develops the photos he takes, he always sees your face. Some days more than the others. He tells himself they’re for the yearbook but if he was to be completely honest, that statement would only be half true.
"Hey Y/N," Carol nudges your arm. Upon hearing your name, you take your eyes off Blake Davis who's dribbling a ball across the court. With that, Carol continues with a knowing smirk, "Byers is back at it again." Of course your friends have noticed Jonathan’s recurring presence ever since he joined the yearbook committee. They might be thick but they live for drama so their eyes are sharper on things like these. You were made aware of this situation a handful of times before but you never really paid any attention to it to avoid feeding their appetite for unnecessary drama.
Jonathan bites the inside of his lip upon hearing his last name. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that they're going at him again. His index finger runs through the button on his camera as his eyes steal a quick glance your way but soon fluttering close like a flower in reverse bloom. It’s true that almost everyone intimidates him but no one does better on the job than you. You’d blink his way and the boy would melt like popsicles in the height of summer.
You give Carol a confused look, "What?" Jonathan sees you shake your head in his peripheral vision before you return your attention to someone in the court.
Blake Davis. You're looking at Blake Davis— your boyfriend. Everyone swore Blake never dates until one morning he pranced through the hallways with you, of all people, in tow. It didn't really confuse them since you were in Blake Davis' league except for the fact that you're not half as much of a devil incarnate as him. The boy brought a handgun once to school and even had the audacity to brag about it during lunch. When all of that went down, Jonathan watched you slap Blake‘s arm to stop him, and Jonathan wondered even more why the hell you put up with the boy in the first place. He may not be the best in math but he‘s certain that you picking the biggest asshole in school does not add up at all because you are cool and popular like Blake but that’s about everything you have in common with him.
"Hey, Byers!" Someone is quick to take Jonathan out of his head. He looks up, seeing Blake staring at him with both hands curled into fists at his hips. "You done ogling my girl?"
Jonathan gets the urge to slap the smirk off Blake's face but it's not like he'd actually do it. So instead, he does what he usually does and simply ignores the remark and the entertained chuckles from some people listening in on the scene.
"Hey, listen here, punk," Jonathan’s seeming indifference only riles the boy up until all of a sudden, Blake is in front of Jonathan with one fist wrapped around the collar of his shirt. "I let you feed your desires by taking pictures of my girl all the damn time— you think we don't notice? God, you really are pathetic—"
"Blake, what the hell are you doing?" You're quick on your feet, tugging at your boyfriend's arm to keep him as far from Jonathan as possible. "He's part of the yearbook committee, leave him alone." You catch Jonathan's eyes as you say this, tugging furthermore at your boyfriend who only tightens his hold on Jonathan's shirt.
As if you're not even there, Blake practically shoves his face right in front of Jonathan in a threatening manner, "I'm warning you last time, Byers—"
"Blake, stop! Stop it!" You finally get your boyfriend's hands off Jonathan, "This is ridiculous! You're acting like a child! They're just pictures!" You yell at this point, enough to catch the attention of everyone in the gym, even those in the basketball team who were warming up for a game.
"He's being fucking creepy!" With that, Blake turns to Jonathan and brings his fist up against his jaw. The quick turn of events elicits gasps from certain people, but you weren't shocked at all; you were seething red with anger. If you were in an animated show, steam would certainly be escaping your ears at this point.
Before you know it, your hands are back on Blake, only this time you push him so hard, he fell on his ass on the gym floor. He skids a few inches from where he took the hit, obviously taken aback from the aggression you're showing for the first time. "You're being a fucking dick, Blake! Get your shit together!" You shake your head in frustration as you turn towards Jonathan who's already making his way out of the gym.
"What?” Blake scoffs, “You're really protecting that dirtbag? He's not fucking worth it—"
"You know what's not fucking worth it? You! You're so fucking mad at the world that you think just because you feel like shit that everyone else should feel like shit too!" You yell back at him, equally as loud and bold. "I thought you could change but really you're a hopeless charity case, Blake. No one can help you but yourself yet not even you are willing to put up with you."
You turn around, jogging out of the gym in hopes of finding Jonathan. Contrary to what Jonathan thought, you actually know his first name but only because your friends never stopped talking shit about him. You have no idea what to tell Jonathan but you definitely want to apologize for what your friends have put him through thus far. You initially thought that if you don't pay attention to them pissing on him on a regular basis, they would stop and lose interest but they never did.
It doesn't take long before you find Jonathan crouching at the parking lot. You carefully walk closer to the bench where he sits slouched, shirt wrinkled and hair disheveled.
"Hey," you say softly, standing next to him, not really wanting to sit and invade his space more than your friends already have.
His eyes peer up without moving his head, wondering why you’re wasting energy on him. It’s the first time he’s ever had your full attention and it’s so overwhelming that he’s not able to meet your eyes.
"I'm sorry," you sigh, looking down at your feet. The two words taste foreign on your tongue. You don’t say it often mostly because you aren’t sorry all that much but right now, looking at the swelling skin on Jonathan’s jaw that you feel is partly your fault, you feel the most apologetic you have lately.
"Why do you put up with them?" Jonathan asks in barely a whisper.
His question takes you by surprise, silencing you for a moment, but it also makes you think. See, it implies that you don’t belong with them, that maybe you’re not like them— something you haven’t even thought about yourself. Sure, you never supported your friends when they do shit like target other students but you’ve always thought people’s perception of you aren’t as far from how they perceive your friends. You've been so apathetic to how your friends have been acting towards people like Jonathan that you didn't realize it makes you one of them too, that you’re somehow an accomplice in the crime. That you’re only as good as your friends— or as bad, really.
You shake your head, "It took me a long time to realize that I really shouldn't."
Jonathan chuckles, "Someone had to be punched for you to realize that."
You can't help but smile at this as you motion towards the bench, silently asking if you could sit next to him. He nods and moves slightly to the side to allow you more space. A chill makes its way up his spine as his heightened senses alert him of the skin on your arm brushing against his, and the side of your knee pressing next to his. His nerves urge him to move away but he doesn't.
In the silence, you ask, "Do you listen to Iron Maiden?" He doesn't seem like he does, but you ask anyway. "I got two tickets to Iron Maiden next week. I was supposed to go with Blake but I don't even want to breathe next to him." You laugh at the absurdity of it all. You can't believe you even thought for a moment in your life that you could love someone like Blake.
Jonathan doesn't listen to Iron Maiden, it's just not his type of music. He can't even name one song at that moment, but it's like he’s lost control of his head as it nods your way.
Jonathan revels at the glimmering smile on your lips, "Cool stuff. You're coming with me then." You don't even give him a chance to say anything as you stare at him for a second before standing up and leaving his head in a pile of mush. He can only compare the experience to a rollercoaster despite the fact that he was sitting on a still, flat surface the entire time.
He loses touch of his own thoughts, sitting on the school's parking lot alone until his mom's car halts in front of him. He steps in, sitting next to his brother who already notices something different with the way he's acting.
"What's got you all smiley?" Will nudges his older brother, a watchful gaze on his eyes.
Joyce looks at Jonathan through the rearview mirror, "We saw you talking to a girl so I drove two circles to give you two some time. Who's the pretty lady?" She asks with a lighthearted, comforting smile.
Jonathan whips his head up bashfully, his hair bouncing in the process, "Mom!" He reacts, looking back at his brother who's teasingly wiggling his eyebrows at him. "She's no one." He lies through his teeth. Between him and Y/N, he's the no one.
"Doesn't look like it," Will teases further, biting off a wide grin from appearing on his soft features. He can't even remember the last time Jonathan looked at a girl (or a boy for that matter) other than their mom let alone talk to them so privately.
"She just asked me to see some band next week. 'S no big deal." Jonathan huffs, looking down at his hands. "If anything, she did it out of pity."
Joyce's eyebrows are quick to furrow in worry. Luckily for her, Will is quick to try and lift his brother's spirits. "Yeah? Well, she doesn't know what she's missing."

Pierced by a Golden Soul
Chapter 3. High School Never Ends

(Crosspost from Wattpad, full fic is already posted there.)
What had you done to piss the universe off so badly? As you tried to enter school you were halted by a teacher that you didn't even recognize.
"And why may I ask are you skulking around here?" She drawled, standing to block you from getting past.
"Excuse me ma'am but I need to..." You tried to sidestep her but she moved back into your path.
"I asked you a question. Do you have a reason for being late?" She was obviously not interested in whatever answer you were planning to give. She was already pulling out a notepad and pen.
"I slept through my alarm." You lied.
"Do you understand how many times I hear that excuse in a day?" She sighed dramatically as you watched her write out a detention slip. You resisted the urge to roll your eyes at her attitude. "I hear it every day from attempted skippers." She sneered accusingly before placing a one-day detention slip in your hand. "Now get to class." She ordered, waving you off.
"Ma'am I didn't even-"
"Talk back and you're getting another day."
........
Yeah, needless to say you walked to class with a two-day detention slip in hand. Thankfully your punishment didn't start until tomorrow which left you at least a day to come up with an excuse for your maternal guardian. You trudged into Biology class and quietly made it to your desk. Listening to the random flow of conversation among your peers was entertaining. The main topic today was your up-and-coming group project, something you had heard about already. The reason it seemed to be so interesting was that the teacher was assigning partners randomly.
With your recent luck.... you could totally see this was going to end well for you.
The teacher had everyone take their seats, and went over details for the project again. Most of your fellow students were just waiting in anticipation for their group members to be announced. He listed off several people's names, often they were followed by groaning. From what you could gather he paired people who would otherwise never interact.
"Y/n Jones you'll be with Blake Greenmin, Timothy Buggles, and Vita."
Yep, people who you would otherwise not volunteer to work with. You weren't friends with them, but you were intimately aware of their reputations.
Blake Greenmin for example. An incredible student known for his near flawless grades. (At least to the teachers) Everyone in the student body knew that he sold answer sheets for homework, tests, quizzes, and even exams in the boys' bathroom. The one thing nobody could figure out was how he always managed to get the sheets without staff noticing. He also had a nasty habit of being late to classes, resulting in frequent detention. You were 99% sure you'd be joining him there tomorrow. When you looked over to his seat, he gave you a mocking wink and smile, you looked away with a groan. In your experience he was a self-centered prick. He loved messing with people for no discernible reason.
Timothy Buggles. He ran the music club. An average student, just a bit of a wallflower. You looked over to where he was sitting, he was quietly scribbling something in a notebook. You had actually didn't mind being paired with him in comparison to the other two. You'd worked with him before and found he was a reliable partner. Unfortunately, Tim was like you in many respects. He was marked a 'loner'. Sometimes when students were giving him trouble you would tell them to knock it off. Tim never asked you to do it, and he never talked to you after each ordeal. You could never tell if he appreciated you interfering or not.
Then there's Vita. Most teachers called him by his last name. Now that you were thinking about it, you didn't know his first name. Vita was a student that missed an inordinate amount of school. When you looked around, you found his seat to be empty. The times he did show up he scared people off. Many outlandish rumors surrounding him claimed he was a vampire or something. You weren't anticipating he'd be much help for this project.
You were expecting to start working immediately, but the teacher stopped everyone when there was a knock at the door. You were greeted by a pulling sensation; you couldn't place when but you had the inkling you'd felt it before. The teacher answered it and happily led in a familiar man.
"Everyone this is Mr. Kujo." He introduced the newcomer. "He's the marine biologist I said would be visiting us to teach about the recent fishing problem." You didn't remember the name but you instantly recognized the face. It was that guy you pulled out of traffic just yesterday. "You will most likely be seeing him around the school. Mr. Kujo is working with the science department to spread pollution and endangerment awareness."
Your teacher continued to drone on about your project and the marine biologist. All of the monotonous chatter left your mind to wonder off. You tried to figure out what that pulling sensation was, it wasn't your clothes or the chair, did it have to do with that stand thing? Before this morning you had no idea what your ability was called, but now you were curious beyond belief. You had so many questions about these so called 'stands'.
Your mind continued to generate questions surrounding this morning's incident and formulating educated guesses. This caught the attention of your teacher who noticed you distracted look.
"Y/n. Please pay attention in my class." You jolted from your daydreaming, immediately shooting a quick 'sorry' to him. A few students around the room laughed. You sunk into your seat and quietly wished for the school day to end.
The period did eventually finish, but only after a lecture boring enough to put the entire class to sleep. When the bell finally rang you started to move on to your next class. The hallways of the school filled with a hum created by many voices chatting at once. You were placing a book in your locker when two voices rose up above the normal volume.
"Buggles!" Someone roughly hit a locker near you. "What are you up to today?" The tone of this person was teasing, and blatantly meant to intimidate.
"N-nothing." Came a quieter voice. This one you immediately recognized.
"Oh yeah? Then what've you been writing in that notebook all day?"
You looked across the hallway to see your newly assigned project partners, two of them at least. Blake was leaning against a locker; Tim was hugging a notebook to his chest.
"Please. I don't want any trouble." Tim muttered, quietly shrinking underneath Blake's scare tactics.
"Give me that." Tim looked deflated as Blake snatched his notebook from him. You watched the interaction from the sideline before deciding to intervene. Blake had a big reputation, so usually people were hesitant to stand up against him. Students didn't pay any mind to the scene. They all just moved from class to class.
"We're supposed to be working together for the foreseeable future. Why don't we start our partnership on good terms?" You stood yourself between Blake and Tim. Blake gave a suave smile, turning on a more welcoming persona.
"My! Y/n, you make a wonderful point." Blake took a step closer to you. "We should try being friends. I guess I can start by giving this back." Blake held out the notebook, proceeding only to drop it at Tim's feet. "Woops." Blake then sauntered off down the hallway, chuckling as if what he had said was clever in some way.
Tim dejectedly picked up the book. He glanced at you before walking off to the opposite hallway. That left you alone. You weren't mad about Tim walking off or anything, you just wondered if he was okay. Ultimately there wasn't much for you to do about Blake, so you continued on your day as well.
The day ended after a few more grueling hours. When the dismissal bell rang you collected your bag and started your walk home. As you passed the courtyard of the school your 'fan girls' gawked and whispered to each other about you. Thankfully none of them followed you around today. After leaving the courtyard you were left to a quiet solitary walk, that is, before you got to the intersection. The light cleared people to walk but traffic continued to flow, you glared at the light, almost expecting it to fix itself if you did so.
A figure next to you started to step off the curb, you stuck your arm straight out to stop whoever it was from becoming roadkill.
"Hey watch it buddy!" A distinctly feminine voice growled. You looked over at the person, about to explain yourself, but you weren't faced with a tourist. No, you had seen this person very recently. "Oh! Y/n?" She was a bit shocked to see you but immediately the blonde gave a smile. "Hi! I didn't know you walk this way!"
"Umm. Hi?" You awkwardly looked up to see that traffic had stopped and motioned for Jaya to cross with you. When you both made it to the other side of the street you continued. "Of course I walk this way, I live right over there." You motioned to the bakery just up the street from where you were.
"Huh. Guess I didn't really register that yesterday!"
"You should really pay attention to that light. Everyone in the area knows what kind of a hazard it is. Are you new around here or something?"
"Sort of? Iv lived in town for a few months now. My brother usually takes me but, I just...had to start walking to school recently." A saddened expression came over Jaya's face. A silence fell between you two but it was soon broken by Jaya "So.... Are you like- okay?" She was eyeing you up and down. You knew what she was referring to. She was looking at the bandages peeking out from your jacket sleeve. You gave her a once over, she looked no worse for wear, especially considering she had almost been mugged. When you saw her forehead, you were perplexed. There was no bandage on it, and it looked almost completely healed. Maybe her cut was even shallower than yours? No. Something felt off about the fact there wasn't a scratch or bruise to be found on her.
"I'm fine, but how are you doing?"
"I got away ay-okay thanks to you. I more meant like are you...okay as in....."You gave her a questioning look. What was she getting at?
"I just said I'm fine." Jaya looked like she was biting back a question. She almost looked embarrassed. "If you have something to ask me spit it out. I don't bite."
"Are you like-... part of a gang or something?" Jaya blurted out. "Its not like I'm going to call the cops or anything! Its just, some people at school were talking about you. It sounded strange since you seem really nice." Jaya rambled on. "You also jumped directly into a fight which is kind of weird? Not that I'm ungrateful or anything! You really saved me back there. I-" She cut herself off when she saw your bewildered expression.
"No. I'm not in a gang, not yet at least." You actually laughed at the absurdity of the question. "Man do people at school love to gossip. Wonder what inspired that one." Jaya was relieved that you weren't offended by the question. She had indeed noticed how opinionated her fellow students were. "As for the ordeal this morning... it was a bit of a fluke." You admitted, but you thought back to all the times you had seen people antagonize those weaker than themselves. To be frank it made you sick. "I took quite the beating but that's all right. I saw you in danger, and it was my decision to jump in. A truly good person has no fear when it comes to helping others. Those who watch and do absolutely nothing are useless. At least that's my take on it."
Jaya held back a laugh, poorly, before just letting it bubble past her lips.
"That's so cheesy!"
You rolled you eyes but agreed with her. It was defiantly an odd thing to say, and to a stranger no less. But it was indeed how you felt. You were always compelled to help people as if it was a deeply engrained part of you. Jaya's laughing halted when you both got closer to the bakery. She looked concerned.
"Did that guy get arrested?" Jaya was looking down the alley where you had left the mugger that morning.
"No......he uh got away." You explained, internally freaking out over the fact he disappeared. The fact he was gone was a good thing...right?
"Well, I guess this is your stop." Jaya remarked. "Guess ill have to be careful walking home with the guy still around."
"How far away do you live from here?" you asked. Jaya responded by pointing up the road to a massive apartment complex. "Why don't we walk to school together then?" Jaya lit up. It was never hard to make her happy about something, she seemed easily excitable.
"I'd love that!" Jaya waved as you entered the bakery. "See you tomorrow then!
"Yeah. Bye." You waved.

Entry Lists Released for U.S. Short Track Nationals at Bristol
The expected entry lists for Bristol Motor Speedway’s U.S. Short Track Nationals have been released.  To no one’s surprise the lists are massive, with over 500 drivers ready to attack the historic facility May 19-21.
The divisions involved are Super Late Models (co-sanctioned by CRA, CARS, and the Southern Super Series), Pro Late Models (sanctioned by CRA), Late Model Stocks (sanctioned by CARS), Modifieds (sanctioned by the National Short Track Racing Alliance), Street Stocks (sanctioned by CRA), and Sport Compacts (sanctioned by Vores Cup)
Just a few weeks ago Bristol requested the participating sanctioning bodies limit each division to a certain number of entrants.  The maximum number set by the Speedway are: 80 Super Late Models, 80 Pro/Crate Late Models, 60 Late Model Stocks, 80 Modifieds, 110 Street Stocks, and 110 Compacts.  The numbers have been exceeded in all but two divisions.
Bristol is now asking those who may not compete to contact their corresponding sanctioning bodies.

Pierced by a Golden Soul
Chapter 33. Pompous Pricks and Portals

Florida weather was a tricky factor to predict. Lately it had been sunny, and hot, but if Jaya had to guess, it was going to rain the second the weekend hit, but it could just as easily turn into a downpour when school ended. Jaya stopped herself when she noticed she was passing by the bakery. It was later than the time she would normally meet up with you, so you were probably gone already. She felt bad, with everything going on, she had barely been able to actually talk to you. Jaya sighed and started walking again.
"Hello beautiful~ did it hurt?" A teasing voice cooed from the alley by the bakery. Jaya stopped in her tracks and grimaced.
"When I fell from heaven?" She answered sarcastically, turning to face the supposed stranger. "Listen buddy I don't know if you think you're clever but that line really doesn't...work." Jaya faltered as the countenance of one Blake Greenmin came into her view. Blake raised an eyebrow, an amused smirk playing on his face.
"I was going to ask if it hurt when our mutual acquaintance Learco Martez threw you across this very alley with all the force of a freight train."
"Um...." Jaya eyed the boy carefully. "Yes?" She answered. What was this guy playing at?
"Don't hold it against him." Blake shrugged and casually waltzed over to Jaya. "He's softer on the inside than anyone gives him credit for."
"What do you want?" Jaya asked hesitantly. You had warned her the guy was bad news, but at the moment he was acting so collected and approachable, it was hard for her to decipher if that was the truth. Jaya had never been particularly close with Blake, but he was spoken of highly by his classmates.
"With you? Nothing." Blake shook his head. "I didn't know you walked this way. It's coincidence I ran into you." He slowly looked back into the alleyway before returning his gaze to Jaya. "I was looking for Y/n but it appears they're an early riser." Blake cleared his throat and glanced over Jaya carefully. "How are you doing?"
"Fine."
"How's your brother?"
"Fine." Jaya glared at Blake. "No thanks to you I'm guessing."
"No thanks to me?"
"I have a feeling since you were the one who attacked Tim Buggles at the beach, you also have something to do with whoever attacked my brother."
"Well I hate to burst your bubble," Blake looked away with a smile on his face. "But I had nothing to do with that one. I wasn't working with certain people yet at that point." Jaya's eyes narrowed upon noticing Blake was about to walk away.
"So you know who did it?" She asked, grabbing Blake's wrist before he could get away. He tended at her touch but quickly relaxed.
"As do you." He replied calmly. As Blake was about to say something else Jaya dragged him into the nearby alley, out of the street.
"Stop trying to be suave." She snapped. "I'm willing to knock you around to get a name." Jaya threatened. Blake sighed, ripping his wrist from Jaya's grasp.
"You couldn't land a hit on me."
"No, but these will." Jaya reached out her hand to the side and sent a burst of hamon into a trashcan. There was a beat of confusion from Blake before the metal started shaking violently. "Metal silver overdrive!" A flurry of metal shrapnel exploded from trashcan, flying across the alley. Blake managed to dodge the attack thanks to his stand. An annoyed expression played across his face before being replaced with a smile.
"Oh~" He laughed. "I was...not expecting that. I was led to believe you were powerless. But it occurs to me, even without a stand you've been able to hold your own against not only me, but Blaze Martez as well. Those aren't feats to scoff at. You have a power, but it's vastly different from my own." Intrigue and deep thought were apparent in Blake's eyes. "What gave you this power?" He asked breathlessly.
"Why the hell would I tell you?" Jaya grimaced.
"Fair enough." Blake mused reaching into his pocket. "Here." He threw something wrapped in paper down at Jaya's feet. "I've found a person's truest character is revealed when given any kind of choice." Peeking out from the folds she could see a reflective gold metal. Jaya looked up at Blake questioningly. Blake casually set his hands in his pockets and shrugged. "Keep it, and do with it what you will."
"As if asshat." Jaya spat, quickly kicking the package back from whence it came.
"Interesting." Blake's body took on a strange glow before three identical figures emerged from behind him. Each shared the same face, clothes, and expression. Jaya took a shocked step back at the show of power.
"I'd love to stay and chat," One of the copies sighed.
"But I have some things I need to check in on." Another laughed as the group of copies leisurely walked past Jaya towards the exit of the alley.
"You can follow me if you want." A copy taunted. "Or...try to anyways." The clones slowly mixed in with the normal foot traffic, effectively disappearing among the current of pedestrians. One stayed back a bit, turning around to face one confused and awestruck hamon user.
"See you around Jaya Rossi." With a slight wave, Blake Greenmin vanished into the streets of Saint Rosewater.
.......
"You- uh...come here often?" The blonde guy looked up at you sheepishly.
"Not really." You said, examining the guy. He looked a really out of it, confused, dazed even. "Are you okay?"
"N-not really." He admitted airily, holding his side while trying to stand up.
"Want some help?" You asked, offering a hand. The guy brushed you aside as he righted himself, keeping a hand on the wall for balance and the other on his abdomen.
"I'm fine, I can manage-" just as he took a step away from the wall he toppled foreword into you. You carefully helped him to not face plant. He sighed in defeat and looked at you reluctantly. "Maybe." You laughed lightly, helping the guy wrap an arm around your shoulder for support.
"How did you even get in there?" You muttered to yourself, glancing back at the small janitor's closet.
"I'm not entirely sure about that one." The guy sighed, looking dumbfounded himself. The two of you started slowly walking to the nurse's office.
"You look kind of familiar..." You looked over the guy again, something about his face was ringing a bell, but no name came to mind. "Do I know you?"
"I don't think so." The guy shook his head. "I've never seen you before."
"Well in that case, I'm Y/n Jones." You shook the guy's hand. "Nice to meet you."
"Julius."
"That's sounds-" You cut yourself off as the realization dawned on you. "Familiar." He looked a lot like his sister, their faces were pretty similar, the platinum blonde hair was also pretty distinct. You'd only seem his photo once, but the name only confirmed it was him.
"Something wrong?" He asked.
"I'm not supposed to talk to you." You sighed, facepalming.
"Wait...you're Jaya's friend, aren't you?" Julius' expression brightened, incredibly similar to Jaya's in your mind. "She told me all about you."
"Oh...?" You wondered just how much she told him.
"Lucky you were the one I ran into huh?" Julius smiled, seeming to loosen up.
"I'll say." You agreed. A thought occurred to you, there was only one kind of person you were privy to running into, especially lately... "How did you get here? Last I heard you were still in a coma." He couldn't be... could he? Julius' eyes widened, it was for a fraction of a second, but you noticed the way he flinched when you asked.
"Like I said, I'm not entirely sure." A purple glow emanated from Julius before quickly subsiding. If you had your facts straight, Jaya said Julius was stabbed, not in a matter that dissimilar to Tim. You stopped in your tracks. "Hey, look at me for a sec."
"Why-" Julius started to ask, but without missing a beat you summoned Golden Soul. Julius jumped back, tripping over himself and landing on the tiled floor. "W-what the hell is that thing?!"
"I was worried about that." You sighed. A few students nearby started whispering and watching your interaction with thinly veiled interest. You have the gawkers a glare and they scampered off.
"A-answer me!" Julius stood up, pointing a rigid and accusative finger at you. Golden Soul glanced between the newly born stand user and yourself. This was going to be a long story...
"How much time you got?" You asked hesitantly. "Cause my schedule is pretty packed at the moment."
"E-excuse me?"
"Dammit I'm starting to sound like Mr. Kujo." You muttered under your breath.
"What?"
"Look--"
"Ya'know what? No." Panic was written all over the elder Rossi sibling's face, and rightfully so. "Stay away from me!" He was slowly backing away from you, stopping only when his back was flat against a classroom door. "Whatever game this is? Whatever trick you're playing at? I don't want any part of this insanity!" Julius reached behind himself, grabbing the door handle. A transparent figure appeared at his side.
"Hey!" You tried to stop him, but Julius opened the door and ran inside, slamming it behind him. You stared at the door, contemplating how to approach this. Julius was technically cornered right now, but did you really want to pursue him? If he was a newly made stand user he was probably overwhelmed. Behind clueless of what was happening was probably scary, but getting an explanation might fry his brain. You sighed and opened the door. "What the hell?" You came face to face with a familiar apartment. Definitely not the classroom you were expecting. In a state of shock you glanced back through the doorway into the school hallway and then back into Jaya's flat. Just a few paces from the door stood Julius, looking even more frazzled than before.
"What in the world is going on?!" Julius quickly turned around, wide eyed. You awkwardly stood in the doorway watching the poor guy loose his mind.
"I think I've asked myself the same question a hundred times in the past week." You replied, attempting to alleviate the tense atmosphere. "You should probably ask your sister for an in-depth explanation." The bell rang from the school hallway, signaling you needed to go. "I know this is probably scary and confusing, but you'll adjust quicker than you think, I'm speaking from experience. Staying calm is the key to staying safe, so if possible stay here. I know you don't know me, but please, just wait for Jaya to get home, she'll tell you everything." You looked behind yourself to find the hallway was filling with students. "I need to go, uh- bye?" You closed the door as you left. After looked up and down the hallway you opened the door again, coming face to face with an empty classroom. That was weird. Really weird.

Pierced by a Golden Soul
Chapter 16. Blueberry Blast

Once again you found yourself walking down the beach. This time it was Sunday afternoon. Senora Jones seemed pretty happy when you explained that you were going to the beach with a friend. She sent you off with a smile and a 'have fun sweety!'
"Y/n! Over here!" Jaya hopped and waved at you, as if you'd somehow miss her.
"Hey." You greeted. "Thanks for helping with this."
"It's no problem!" Jaya smiled as the two of you started walking in tandem to the dock. "What are friends for anyways?" She asked rhetorically.
While to two of you walked Jaya rambled on about her morning. You simply listened, making a comment here and there just to show you were paying attention. That was how the two of you interacted most of the time. At this point you had only known Jaya a week, yet you knew a lot about her, even details you may have preferred not knowing. She liked the color blue; her favorite movie was the Parent Trap from 1961. Her mother was Italian, her father an American. She lived in Italy until two years ago when she moved with her father and brother Julius to their current place of residence in Florida. Julius, her brother, adored the cupcakes from your mother's bakery. Jaya told you a lot about herself, like what foods she liked, how messy her parent's divorce had been, and even the fact she practiced some magic breathing technique that healed your sorry ass every time you got it handed to you by an enemy stand user.
"The dock is over here." You pointed to an old conglomeration of barnacle covered bords. It was far from the main tourist area and fairly hidden away. That was probably why Blake wanted to meet Tim there. As you started sweeping the dock for anything odd, Jaya tentatively stepped onto the rickety bords.
"Remind me again what we're looking for?" She asked, watching as you bent down to inspect one of the wooden hitches.
"Anything that looks damaged, out of place, or could have been caused by a stand user." You stood back up upon finding nothing off about the hitch. "Why don't you take one side, and I'll take the other?"
"Sounds good." Jaya lazily gave a thumbs up and walked to the other end of the dock.
After moving from one hitch to another for ten minutes you were getting annoyed, there had to be something Tim's attackers left behind. Right? That's when you found something interesting on your current dock hitch. Holes. Four perfectly round holes, bored into the wood. They could've easily been caused by bugs, erosion, or a tool of some kind, but you recognized these specific holes. You had one exactly like them in your own hand the other day. Holding your hand up to the hitch showed the scar on your hand and the holes on the dock hitch were the exact same shape and size. While this wasn't definite proof the man who attacked you a few nights ago and the man who attacked Tim were the same, it served as a clear and strong tie between the two at least.
"Hey! Look over here." Jaya called you over from her side of the boardwalk. When you got to her side Jaya pointed at a groove in the wood of one of the braces. You glanced around at the area. This brace was the same one Tim was sitting against when you found him the other evening. You bent down to get a better look at the groove. It dug deep into the wood, and inside there was the glint of something metallic.
"I can't see it all that well and there's no way I can reach inside this groove, but there's definitely something in there."
"Here." Jaya shuffled through her bag before handing you a pair of tweezers and a flashlight. You took the items looking down at them, questioning whether Jaya just handed them to you.
"Do you... just carry these around with you?" You questioned while looking up at your friend.
"What? No!" Jaya started laughing nervously as you continued staring at her. "I like watching crime shows okay!?" She hid her face in her hands. "When you said we were going to investigate this place I figured I'd bring some things along...." You held back a laugh for the sake of your excitable friend's pride. With slow movements you shined the flashlight in the groove and used the tweezers to lightly dislodge whatever was stuck into the wood. After a good minute of prying, you finally managed to pull whatever it was out and lay it in the palm of your hand. It was a thin sliver of metal no longer than a few centimeters. You carefully turned it over in your hand, getting a good look at its gold color that glistened in the afternoon sunlight.
"What is this?" You muttered. "It looks like it could've come off of a knife I guess... but the color's a little weird."
"Do you think it came off of the weapon that Tim was stabbed with?" Jaya leaned over your shoulder to see the metal sliver herself.
"Almost definitely." You nodded. Jaya fumbled around in her bag again, this time taking out a small plastic bag and handing it to you. After a moment of processing Jaya's action, you took the bag. "Ya'know what you said about wanting to be a doctor?" You asked while dropping the metal shard into the bag. "Maybe you should invest in being a CSI instead."
"I don't think so." Jaya laughed. "Are you going to give that to that Mr. Jotaro guy?" She asked.
"No, not quite yet." You sighed as you held the plastic bag up to your face, continuing to examine the odd metal sliver. "I don't want to bother him, especially when I'm not sure what this even is yet." You looked up and down the dock. "Did you spot anything else odd around here?"
"Nope." Jaya sighed. "That's all I was able to find." Her face it up a bit and she turned to you. "Hey, wanna go get smoothies?" She looked at you hopefully.
"Sure." You shrugged, placing the plastic bag with the sliver into your pocket.
"Wait- really?" Jaya smiled, surprised you'd consider her request. She considered the two of you friends, despite that you were often distant with her. She didn't actually know much about your personal life. After asking around school she found out nobody really knew much about you. She thought you were nice, a bit socially clueless at times, but sweet. So, you agreeing to hang out with her outside of school or this stand business was progress in her eyes.
"Yeah. It sounds good on a day like today." You mumbled while wiping some sweat from your forehead.
"I know this great place right by the main boardwalk!" Jaya excitedly grabbed your hand and half dragged you in the direction of some seaside shops and restaurants.
................................................
As you waited in the short line for the smoothie parlor, you looked around curiously. It wasn't often you went out to buy food. Senora Jones was a phenomenal baker and a just as talented cook. If your mother wasn't available, you would make a meal yourself.
"One blueberry blast, and a...." Jaya looked at you expectantly, waiting on your order. Dumbfounded, you scanned the menu of strangely titled smoothies and overpriced sandwiches.
"I'll just have what she's having." You mumbled to the cashier. The two of you were rung up and Jaya pulled out a credit card.
"Um-I can pay for myself." You said, quickly reaching for your own wallet.
"Don't even try, this is my treat." Jaya said sternly, handing her card to the cashier.
"Fine, but next time it's on me." You sighed, putting your wallet back. There was no point in fighting her on this. Even if it went unsaid, you knew she was well off. The cashier handed Jaya two styrofoam cups, one of which she handed to you.
"Next time?" She smiled expectantly as the two of you walked back out into the sun.
"Yeah, next time." You reiterated. "Was I being too presumptuous?" You asked, suddenly realizing your possible mistake.
"No! I'd love to do something like this again!" Jaya smiled, taking a sip of her drink. "But maybe with less crime scene analysis. Deal?"
"Deal." You echoed. Just as you were going to taste your smoothie, a passerby knocked into your shoulder. In the process of gaining some sense of balance, you dropped your drink.
"Really man?" Jaya groaned at the guy as your smoothie splashed across the pavement.
"Sorry. That was my bad." The stranger apologized, not sounding like he really cared. He was much taller than you, which was impressive given you weren't anywhere below average height.
"It's fine." You sighed, wiping spilled smoothie from your pants. "Just watch where you're going next time." As you studied the stranger you were struck with recognition, but couldn't place from where. Something about his face.... He had dark hair and tan skin. When you moved to clean more of the smoothie off, you slipped in the puddle made by the drink. Your back hit the concrete before you could do anything to catch yourself.
"Y/n! Oh my god!" Jaya yelled in surprise.
"Now that I think about it..." You said from your place in the ground. "I don't think I've gone to the beach once lately without falling on or into something." Cold sticky sludge seeped into your shirt, making you cringe. The stranger who bumped into you offered a hand. You accepted it, but he grabbed you by the wrist rather than by your hand. A shiver ran down your spine as you stood, the smoothie spill making your clothes incredibly uncomfortable.
"Careful." The stranger mumbled.
"Uh- thanks." You responded. There was a weird vibe about the guy. Again, you tried to place where you'd seen him before, something about his face was familiar. Without any kind of excuse, the stranger just started walking away. A light prickling sensation crept up your arm before quickly disappearing.
"Jeez! That was rude." Jaya murmured. "Are you okay?" She examined what she could see through the blue slush that was covering your skin and clothes.
"Don't worry about it. I'm fine." You reassured your friend. "Just a little uncomfortable." Smoothie dripped down your back, causing you to shift in place. "We should probably just leave. I need to shower."
"Yeah, lets get you home." Jaya agreed.
.............................................................................
You attracted quite a few stares as blue smoothie dripped down your shirt and pants.
"You really need to start watching out for people like that." Jaya scolded lightly. "You're going to get really hurt if you keep letting people run into you like that."
"It's not like I wanted to bump into that guy, I just tend to be a little clumsy. Besides, that collision wasn't even my fault!"
"Fair enough." Jaya sighed as she hit the crosswalk button. "Just promise you'll start watching out for oncoming idiots, okay?"
"Sure thing Doc." You relented, trying to put your friend at ease. The walk light came on, but you waited a moment to move. Old habits die hard, and despite the system apparently being fixed, you found yourself checking to make sure it was working properly before stepping from the sidewalk. Jaya, unlike you, immediately started crossing the street.
In the span of a mere moment, you noticed a car speeding down the street, showing no sign of stopping or even slowing down. Seconds stretched into what felt like minutes as you reached out, grabbed your friend's shoulder, and dragged her out of the crosswalk. It was a close call. Her hand looked like it brushed against the hood of the car before she stumbled back onto the sidewalk. The two of you stood there staring at one another in shocked silence.
"Y/n! What is your problem?!" Jaya yelled at you in disbelief. "That almost gave me a heart attack!" Quick and shallow breaths wracked your body. You had to focus on calming down in order to even speak.
"I'm sorry." Your voice cracked "I thought Tim fixed the light timer." Jaya looked at you oddly.
"What are you talking about?" She asked, clearly confused. Was she being serious? She was acting like you hadn't just pulled her out of traffic!
"Did you not just see that car nearly bulldoze you?" You yelled in disbelief.
"Y/n..." Jaya looked at you with a bewildered expression "There was no car."
