SasuHinaMonth2023 PROMPTS and ARTIST OF THE YEAR!

Well, well, well.

Looks like we're finally here! After weeks of preparation and formatting and planning, we are FINALLY ready to make two announcements today!

Let's start with Artist of the Year, as congratulations are very much due!

Perhaps you recognize this beautiful art style! The MOD team took attentive care to go through the many fabulous artists we have in the SasuHina fandom, and we found one artist in particular whose dreamy style and beautiful color schemes fit our theme perfectly!

We'd like to congratulate @daifukumochiin for being SasuHinaMonth2023's ARTIST OF THE YEAR!

Mochi is such an amazing artist that keeps pumping out beautiful pieces, and we were so happy to see the amazing pieces she made for our banner and icon for 2023! Everyone, please send your love and joy to DaifukuMochiin. She deserves it!

Been working on again off again on a Xenogears portrait mod for two years now, started in Sept 2021 right before I actually finished the game for the first time. Some time ago I started adding upscaled (hand painted) versions of UI elements, so I guess its now a general texture pack I'm working on.

Its done through RetroArch's Beetle PSX HW core real-time texture replacer.

My goal with this is to make a texture pack that stays very true to the original look of the game. I don't want to redesign elements, impose too much of my own influence into it, and make the game look like it had an identity crisis. I still want it to look like Xenogears in the end, just upscaled, and where the portraits are concerned I want it to look as close to the original artwork as possible, with no scanning artifacts and low res quality- as if we actually had digital versions of Tanaka's original artwork.

Also, this isn't intended to be super high res 4k or anything, idc about that.

Figured I'd make a full post here going over everything I've done so far. I'm on the home stretch! Just a few more left.

⬆ Starting with UI. I replaced the red selection arrow, the red/grey spheres, save block icon, save/load text/bar, Walk/Gear icons (more about that one later), compass cardinal points (was unable to get a proper dump of the circular compass texture), and the dialogue diamond and selection diamond within menus.

I totally get it if someone wouldn't want to use something like the dialogue diamond, as you see it all the time right beside the pixelated text and it seems to stand out more in dialogue vs the one in menuing bc your attention is typically focused elsewhere while menuing. In the end, all changes are optional and to remove something all you have to do is move/delete the equivalent img file from the texture replacement folder. Within said folder I have a sub-folder titled "alternate portraits" where I keep alts and things I want to "disable" without outright deleting.

⬆ In combat UI I've replaced the HP/dmg numbers, the Time/AP/numbers, battle palette text (used for other text as well), the circle and tags of the battle palette, Time/AP/fuel bars, green Gear text and numbers, Gear attack level/♾ indicator, black Gear UI backgrounds, and combo icons. The red arrows have been replaced, but unfortunately the black arrows around the red cannot be replaced based on how the game does it; it is not a texture you can change, it is a triangular shaped box that the game fills with the black texture from behind Gear UI.

⬆ Menu/gameplay buttons. Also numbers/"points/fuel/cancel end" Someone mentioned playing with a switch pro controller or joy-cons so I threw an ABXY version together as an alternate button display option. Used the same typeface as the combo icons to keep some consistency with a typeface already in-use as well as for overall clarity.

⬆ Also, DB icons, EP/Fuel/Miss text, and "total damage". Unfortunately, the other DB icons (showing the △🞪☐ highlighted) cannot be replaced as far as I can tell. The battle UI textures (the 17 or so textures of the same thing in varying hues) shows them on it, but changing them in each one of these textures does not change the icons. It does not pull from these specific texture dumps, in other words; its just one of those that doesn't dump, like the circular compass texture.

⬆ In working on the Walk/Gear icons I wasn't sure exactly how I'd go about doing it because the original is literally just that tiny. So I had the idea of putting a little Fei & Weltall in it, outlined by the same grey. Thought it might be weird in the other party members' menus, idk, and I don't like changing things too much from the original, so I decided to just use Fei/Weltall as the grey silhouettes instead. Ill keep the Fei/Weltall one as an alt option if anyone wants to use it.

⬆ And the minimap. Kept B&W so that the colored dots (indicators of where all you can enter an area) aren't difficult to see. I do have a colored version as an alt, though. Credit to Adelinold for having ripped the 3D maps and made a bird's eye view "minimap" esque screenshot of the world map some years back because it is absolutely perfect for use here.

Now onto portraits, the main bulk of the work. This includes dialogue portraits, menu portraits, and gameplay portraits. I go through each one individually, find the highest quality version of the art, and clean it up manually, painting over it to get rid of any jpg rot, scanning artifacts, or print dots from scans while keeping it as close to the artwork as possible. In order to keep colors consistent across the board (because scans of the artwork can vary) I'm picking from the sprites. One portrait typically takes 2.5+ hours, not including testing them in-game. Each one needs to be tested in-game and edited to make sure semi-transparent pixels around the portraits don't result in black or white pixels in the area that should be transparent.

⬆ Direct comparison to the sprites. I'm not too strict about how I match how much of the art is shown, but in instances like this I like to show more of the character than the pixelated portraits allowed for. However, this wouldn't work for everyone as Fei's default portrait is also used when Kim is naked from the hips up.

For the Captain I specifically wanted to get his pipe within frame. Typically the portraits end just behind their ear, have the eyes at 1/2 to 2/3 height, and end just above the clavicle.

⬆ Some portraits like Kim and Elly have no artwork equivalent, but were pretty basic to make with the artwork of Fei & Elly that we do have.

⬆ Other characters have no artwork equivalent whatsoever, like Stein and Wel-Gear Hammer. For Stein I had to take the collar from Stone's artwork and paint something from scratch using Stein's sprite as reference. This one was more fun to do than I expected because its a special case, entirely different from all of the other portraits. For example, usually the artwork has 4 colors for skin- base color, shadow color, deep shadow color (usually seen directly under the chin, used sparingly), and a highlight color for on the nose or lip. But with Stein his skin had many different colors you could pick from the sprite and no equivalent artwork to limit yourself in how many there actually are. So in trying to get it looking just right it took something like 7 different shades of varying pink, red, and orange. It clearly has more dynamic shading compared to all of the other portraits.

For Wel-Gear Hammer... I did my best given what all I could see was even happening in the sprite.

⬆ I made a close eyed Elly portrait as there is no artwork of it and a bomb collar Fei and Hammer portrait using the bomb collar in Rico's art. Its fun playing around with them when there is no equivalent artwork.

⬆ Made an unsmiling Citan to mirror his unsmiling dialogue sprite vs his smiling menu sprites as well as alt Krelians to better match the expression of his mouth that the sprite has vs the artwork. (sprites are always a bit stretched compared to the artwork, btw. even when you rip them from the disc)

⬆ I'm also working on alternate versions, like a two-eyed Bart I did for fun.

It is finished! 1.0 anyway. Right in time for the North American 25th Anniversary! I just gotta get it uploaded somewhere.

I'll continue to work on the ones that I think still need more work, but for now even the ones that are in rougher shape are passable.

Ill have two versions of the mod- one with stretched and cropped portraits that work in 4:3 (much like the sprite portrait bmps in the base-game that end up looking fine in true 4:3. they kind of end up blurrier due to stretching the artwork) (with Crop Overscan set to None) and another version which isn't stretched or cropped so its as crisp as I could get them, but in order to get them to display the image exactly as they are in-game without squishing you need Crop Overscan set to Static (removes horizontal padding) which makes it just slightly off 4:3. Honestly, to the untrained eye its hard to tell it isn't 4:3. 🤷‍♀️ The only thing you might notice it really affecting would be the animated cutscenes.

I'll make a master post for the mod itself, separate from this. This'll end up being a bit of a time capsule for me.

Cons: it unearths a newfound sense of empathy for the lootbug that you didn’t know was inside of you. Could you really do it? Could you steal from a man who is just trying to survive on a cold and desolate planet? Could you rip the last piece of joy he is clinging onto out of his hands?

Would you maim him for it?

About that same bitter anti, TeamFreeWill2pointo, who poses as a TFW/J2M fan, who is really just bitter Sam/Jared stan, backdoor wincel, and passive aggressively brosonly (won’t come right out and say Sam and Dean are the only thing that counts on spn, but designs their wankbaiting to diminish the importance of everyone else and “it’s about Sam and Dean, so Cas can’t be important”) whose manipulative wankbaiting I just countered for their backhanding of Misha.

if you examine at their posting history post after post is also backhanding Jensen, same backhanded way, It’s a lot of “well actually” on how Jensen isn’t good at this, or Jensen isn’t good at that, and no actually Jensen isn’t this, and things like calling CMP a tax shelter or predicting the imminent demise of CMP. It’s a lot of word soup to avoid full on praising Jensen, and putting down Jensen and his work and his efforts and his skills. This is the same blogger who a while back said Jensen isn’t good at getting things done.

They don’t do this to Jared. Only Jensen or Misha. They don’t passive aggressively diminish Jared’s importance. Most of their rhetoric is designed to falsely inflate Walker over TW and GK and at the expense of other series like All American that are leagues above Walker both in numbers and creatively and for inclusion. (Not even in same zip code) and falsely inflate Jared over Jensen and Misha.

This is the same blogger who has been manipulating and using multiple lanes—they wankbait to appeal to different lanes. They have played at being a “Destiel shipper” while diminishing Destiel and canon at every turn, and recently outright said they don’t like it because “Dean is mean to Cas” and Sastiel is so much better. They have been bitter for a while that Destiel became the big ship in fandom instead of Sastiel. They’re also bitter that Destiel became the big ship in fandom surpassing w*ncest.

The same bitter blogger who has been wrong time and again over the years, then keeps wailing that the fans who actually have a much more accurate idea of what’s going on, who have called it right, are wrong.

They’ve been wrong about spn. They were wrong about the CW sale. They were wrong about TW. Everything. Again and again and again. Wrong.

The same blogger who has been spreading lies about the mod of the meta server I’m in, claiming grift where there is none, and spreading lies about every last one of us who are in the server. 2PO, give it up. We’re in the server. We know what’s true or not true. You’re lying. Stop lying. Stop the lies, stop your hate campaign. This isn’t healthy, 2PO. Move. TF. On.

The same bitter blogger who tried to doxx someone in the server, who has sent anons after the mod or at other members.

The same bitter blogger btw is friends with a clique of Jared stan con regulars of the type who become enraged because a Destiel shipper gets to ask a question in a m&g and who physically threaten Destiel shippers. Whose entitlement and egos have swelled and swelled. One of them is very often the one and only source of con panel videos. They’re part of this clique. They’ve bashed Dean on twitter. They mass blocked Destiel shippers just for existing. I don’t care if people keep using her con panel videos or not, I just think people should know what she is. Hey, if she wants to make those con panel videos available to all, so lanes she hates can use them for joy and to debunk the misinformation noise that comes from her own lane, let her.

The same bitter blogger uses their con regular friends who feed him m&g info in violation of NDA’s that they then post, in violation of NDA’s, and lie about what was said in the m&g’s. Forgetting that their little elite clique of con regular friends are not the only ones with enough resources to get into a m&g and that other fans Know Things too and know when they’re lying.

They have lied, repeatedly, about what Jensen has said in m&gs.

A couple of bitter hellers, who are either so bitter at spn, they’re willing to play footsie with that kind of Jared stan or for personal grudgewank reasons, get pulled into 2po’s narrative but I think almost no one is left outside of the anti-Misha, anti-Jensen, anti-TW, anti-Destiel, bitter bibro and brosonly squad core who buys into what they post, and even some brosonlies are sick of them and know what a snake they are to multiple lanes. But just in case, here’s your now semi-regular reminder.

The good news is the poisoned blogger is getting more and more desperate and doing more and more egregious misinformation and bitter post spamming and tipping their hand more and more just how bitter they are. They know they’re reaching the end of their remaining shreds of credibility and more and more people are sick and tired of the ceaseless grudgewanking, wankbaiting, targeted hate campaign, backhanding Jensen or Misha, and the lies.

They have a habit of tagging their junk takes onto actor tags and various show tags, which spreads the annoyance and the potential spread of misleading wankbait.

This isn’t an attack on them, I don’t wish anything bad on them, I’m just doing correctives to try to divert or firmly counter the wankbait mess and misinformation mill they willfully try to create. I hope they find something more joyful to put their energy into soon.

KiScon 2022 Progress Report #8, Schedule and Mods

Dear K/S friends,

Autumnal greetings from the headquarters of con farr! KiScon is only 18 days and several hours away.

1. KiScon 2022 Program / Schedule: Call for Mods/Presenters

We are happy to present to you the schedule for download as pdf file. It is still subject to change (though we really try to avoid any further moving about of panels), and you can see that there are many panels still waiting to be adopted by a willing presenter or mod. One of KiScon's strengths has always been the amazing creative and intellectual force of its attendees; this is what guarantees a weekend filled with inspired and inspiring discussions, new insights, a fascinating exchange of headcanons and interpretations, and of course the spawning of countless plot bunnies. All panels will be held via Zoom, and there is not much technical knowledge needed to take part or present one. We will happily help with all technical and logistical questions!

If you would like to present or mod a panel (some topics might lend themselves more to a presentation followed by discussion, others might be more suited to an interactive approach with audience participation from the start – that is up to you!), please let us know soon: larissa @ kiscon . org.

2. Upcoming KiScon Office Hours:

For all your questions regarding KiScon – be it about Registration or Conline, Discord or Zoom, or anything else that you would like us to explain or help you with.

4. Upcoming deadline: Cake Contest (1 November)

A beautiful K/S-themed cake has long been a staple of KiScon throughout the years. We would like to carry on with this tradition even in the digital setting and invite everyone to take part in our cake contest. While we won't be able to taste the sweet creations, we'll be able to enjoy them in a visual way. Be it a big cake with buttercream drawings, or adorned with marzipan figures or peens, be it a K/S action figure variation of the infamous Barbie cake, or be it cake's little cousin, the cupcake, go wild and surprise us!

We will present the creations in a virtual gallery (photos, but also recipes/explanations of symbolism etc. if you would like to include them) and KiScon attendees will vote for their favourites. Photo toppers are allowed, but we ask you not to use other people's fanart without asking the artist first. You can create your K/S (cup)cake anytime before the con, but we need to have your recipe/photos submission no later than November 1st, 2022. Get in touch with us at cakecontest @ kiscon . org.

just wanted to give a big thank you to anyone who stopped by my table during Anime Impulse OC !! it was crazy hot and humid there.. (it still is, this weather is awful rn lol TT) but aside from that i had a great time ! there were so many kind and fun interactions i had, it really fills me with a ton of joy to be able to be out there with my art like that and the support means a lot ^__T

i also met robbie daymond for the first time and got an autograph from him in my copy of the 2nd volume of the goro akechi zine--next to my mod credits !! i was super nervous about it and was chickening out but i’m glad i went ( thank you so much to the super kind person who got mauhan and i to go see him sdlkfdjslfj )

during the weekend i also saw a really epic pucci cosplay.. girl akechi cosplay.. got to play ddr at the arcade (at a con finally !).. wow

i don’t have another event lined up at the moment so i’ll be focusing on art & store things ! cons get me so pumped i really can’t wait to draw more, make new merch, and meet more people sometime soon ^o^

Il post punk è un’etichetta fluida, che non ha confini in quanto a contaminazioni, cambiamenti e ammodernamenti. Come spesso accade in Italia è relegata a genere di nicchia, per pochi eletti. Ma non sembra essere un problema. Rappresentanti della corrente musicale ci sono e continuano a produrre notevoli dischi. E’ questo il caso dei Letatlin, duo reduce dalla recente pubblicazione del loro ultimo disco. In questa intervista a Tempi Dispari Mel de Vivre e Hans Plasma raccontano il recente lavoro, il loro genere, e il loro punto di vista della scena in Italia.

Una veloce presentazione per chi non vi conosce.

Letatlin esiste da fine anni 90. La band ha assunto da tempo una formazione a 2: Marc Mal de Vivre e Hans Plasma. Entrambi suoniamo chitarre, synth, drum machine varie, basso.

Testi scritti rigorosamente mai a 4 mani…insomma tutto (o quasi tutto) lo si fa’ a meta’.

Amiamo la sperimentazione come il garage rock, la new wave e l’elettronica.

Quanto è difficile essere post punk in Italia?

Non conosciamo molti gruppi post-punk in Italia oggi. Comunque esprimersi nel nostro paese con questa attitudine musicale è stato sempre piuttosto difficoltoso. Pensiamo ad esempio a un disco notevole, veramente di respiro europeo come “Sick Soundtrack” (1980) dei Gaznevada che è rimasto praticamente (e purtroppo) sconosciuto eccetto per un pubblico super selezionato.

Il vostro disco, un’ esigenza espressiva o una necessità tecnica?

Noi sappiamo “esprimerci” in forma (in)compiuta solo con la nostra musica. Dunque diremmo che è prima di tutto un’ urgenza esistenziale! Suonare e fare nuovi pezzi ci accompagna da tanti anni, sopravvive a tanti cambiamenti.

Perché il post punk?

Per semplicità di comunicazione, come tutti i gruppi (spesso loro malgrado) per comunicare “cosa suonano” anche noi dobbiamo citare qualche band di riferimento per dire da dove veniamo, insomma dichiarare “piu’ o meno” a quale tribù apparteniamo.

Per come lo intendiamo noi definirsi “post-punk” è dichiarare di avere un’attitudine che include direzioni stilistiche anche differenti (vedi gruppi come Joy Division, Suicide, Nick Cave, The Fall, Sleaford Mods, Felix Kubin, Pixies, Pavement, Tarwater, Wire, Wall of Voodoo, the Residents, Devo, etc) che hanno in comune però un mood e dei testi sempre diretti, urgenti, abrasivi e sperimentali.

Sappiamo benissimo però che il giornalismo musicale ha ingabbiato il post-punk in un periodo molto preciso e con un sound molto più definito, molto piu’ chitarristico, di quello che noi attribuiamo ad esso. Per quanto ci riguarda pensiamo che un’ attitudine “post-punk” possa ritrovarsi già in gruppi garage metà / fine anni ’60 come pure nel primissimo Brian Eno o nei Neu! …e che dire dei Residents!

E’ un genere ancora così di rottura o è stato edulcorato?

Se per edulcorato intendi ibridato da altre influenze musicali diremmo di SI. Ma e’ nella sua natura! Vedi Sleaford Mods. Grande gruppo contemporaneo che usa semplicemente un laptop con basi prefatte e la voce del cantante. Sono essenziali, aggressivi e molto originali. Orgogliosi della loro formula.

Circa essere di “di rottura”: rispetto cosa? Il post-punk scalzò i 4 accordi “così di rottura” del Punk perché dopo pochissimo era diventato “stile” pure quello.

Dunque crediamo che definirsi post-punk abbia un vantaggio: quello di avere libertà espressiva all’interno di una formula comunicativa che rimane underground e che rifiuta dunque la pura tecnica come primo requisito. Noi ci affidiamo più alle intuizioni e ai collages sonori.

I vostri testi sono piuttosto intimisti. Da cosa prendete spunto? Situazioni o sensazioni?

Ci piace sperimentare, spesso più che emozioni vorremmo trasmettere visioni. Le mascheriamo davvero molto usando giri di parole, layers di synth analogici, interminabili ripetizioni, dislessie, etc. In più siamo anche un tantino timidi.

…ma a parte questi difetti, in “seaside” siamo riusciti a tirar fuori 8 “paesaggi sonori” che ci piace definire post-punk. Ognuno di essi vive di vita propria. Storielle brevi con un sound adeguato e che soprattutto non comunicano fra di loro.

Se mi volessi avvicinare al post punk, quali dischi e band consigliereste?

Il cuore ci direbbe The Fall ma data la relativa ostilità di quel rompicoglioni che era M.E.Smith alla fine sarebbe forse più saggio iniziare da dei classici come Real Life dei Magazine, Unknown Pleasure dei Joy Division, The Queen Is Dead degli Smiths o (insistiamo) anche Divide and Exit dei contemporanei Sleaford Mods.

Il disco sembra voler portare il messaggio che esiste ancora uno spazio in cui si può essere liberi di esprimersi, quel centimetro quadrato di cui parla Moore in V per vendetta. Questo spazio esiste o no?

Per noi questo spazio deve esistere per forza dato che sappiamo esprimerci solo li dentro.

Una domanda che non vi hanno mai fatto ma vi piacerebbe vi venisse rivolta?

Una domanda che ci piacerebbe potrebbe essere:

“descrivete un vostro brano di seaside”.

La risposta potrebbe essere:

“the return of the Yeti” parla della freddezza e dell’ incomunicabilità tra due persone che a volte esiste in maniera inevitabile e naturale. Il sound è composto da suoni elettronici e da una chitarra fredda e tagliente che esprime la difficoltà di questi rapporti. Essi si contrappongono al basso e alla chitarra di accompagnamento che seguono invece un ritmo lento dal sound più caldo e vivo a suggerire che siamo fatti di carne e sangue.

Domanda Tempi Dispari: se foste voi gli intervistatori, chi intervistereste (vivente e non) e cosa gli chiedereste?

Marc: Yello o Iggy Pop. “quando e quanto” si sono più divertiti nella loro carriera.

Hans: mi piacerebbe intervistare Rose Selavy e passare una notte d’amore con lei.

But, in short, it's a low stress fic/art exchange with a 300-word minimum in which you both give at least one trick (horror, occult, supernatural, scary, etc) or treat (sweet, sexy, fluffy, etc) fanwork to your recipient and receive one or more in return.

There isn't much in here that isn't in my signup, but you can have a look at all my previous letters using the tags! Every letter going back seven years is under dear author letter, and specific fandoms and some pretty pretty gif sets under the fandom tags.

(They're probably not trick-or-treating in costume with carved pumpkins in ninth/tenth century England, but All Hallows' Eve would be a great place to start. On the other hand, I can see Thor really loving a modern Halloween.) Some Halloween prompts are given for some fandoms. 1. The Last Kingdom (TV)

I asked Netflix to “Surprise Me” this summer and watched the first few minutes of this. Then the first episode. Then the first season. Then I’d devoured the whole thing in a fortnight, couldn’t pick what to watch next and started again. And I’m reading the books. (Halfway through Sword Song as of this morning.) This series caught my imagination in unexpected ways.

I really enjoy the way different characters think/plot, their diverse values and worldviews. How Danes view death (unafraid of death but not keen on the waste of men/expecting to die with their sword in hand) and how Saxons do (a preference for dying peacefully in bed with priest/family by their side), how their religion and gods influence them, the idea of destiny. Death is a constant presence in this world, in a way it’s not in ours. Stiorra says something to her father about death coming for her mother too quickly for Gisela to see, and so Stiorra was ready and unafraid. (Terrible paraphrasing.) But death is always there, a hair’s breadth away (the snipping of a thread by the spinners) whether by violence or disease or childbirth or misadventure. Destiny is all/fate is inexorable.

I was going to split into trick prompts or treat prompts but so many could go either way. Uhtred and friends walk the line between genius and disaster so often. I am also open to the appearance of any other characters at the author’s pleasure.

My likes of missing moments, banter/bickering, character death fic, found family, unlikely friendships and outsider POV all seem extra relevant here.

- Life after Osferth? - Osferth and Aethelstan “living the bastard life” (and the wider group having a new baby monk to tease instead of Osferth). - Shadowwalkers? - One of Uhtred’s plans goes wrong. - Aethelflaed chooses a different path (with Erik, with Uhtred, anything away from her destiny as Alfred’s daughter). Does it go right or does it go wrong? - A missing moment for Uhtred and Aethelflaed. Does she ever break her oath, or come close to it? - Separately or additionally: Aethelflaed is caught breaking her oath. - How does Aelswith enjoy her room with a sea view? Does she continue to harangue Uhtred? She’s hated him for so long, he’s not fond of her, and that flips. Or does it? S5 Aelswith is so fun. My thanks to whoever nominated this ship. - Alfred’s perspective on some of Uhtred’s nonsense? Alfred’s reflections on his deathbed? I haven’t requested the / ship, but I did request the characters and I could read it, or just a one-sided version or foolish moment. Love, hate, madness, loyalty, obligation, respect, scorn – they’re one messy tangle of thorns for these two. - I enjoy fics featuring character death or its aftermath and every tagged character loses someone or is lost themselves. - I could read more of Beocca and young Uhtred. (Osbert!) What did Uhtred learn from Beocca rather than Ragnar? - Is Uhtred ever haunted by his ghosts? - HALLOWEEN: Its origins are in a time to remember the dead, including martyrs, saints and all faithful departed Christians. How is this observed or endured?

2. North and South (UK TV)

I’ve requested this more times than I can count, because it’s one of my favourite baby fandoms. I love the conflict between the three worlds in this novel/series (Margaret’s, John and Hannah’s, Nicholas’) and how they come to understand each other better by the end of the story. And it’s pretty hard not to ship Margaret/John. Also, I have such incredibly strong train scene feelings because that’s so horribly unlikely, the PDA, an unmarried woman travelling to the other end of the country from her family with a single man! Shocking. So I absolutely adore post-canon fic here.

There’s so much pride in all these characters, in different ways. All look down on each other too. I could read more about that.

- Post-canon train scene consequences, for good or ill. - What if Margaret (or John) was seriously injured in the riot? - We don’t see a second/successful proposal on the show. Does one happen? Does the first go differently? - Something about John and Hannah’s backstory, the failure and death of John’s father, pulling him out of school and repaying the debts? - John, Hannah and Nicholas have tasted poverty – or at least true difficulty. Margaret might think she has, but she has not. Is there conflict there? - What if Frederick Hale came to post-canon Milton? Do any of these characters visit him in Spain? - Margaret finding her place in post-canon Milton? At home, in the mill, in town. - Any more flavour/colour of life in Milton.

3. The Witcher (TV)

I have also played Witcher 3 (the main story, I’m half way through Hearts of Stone, not played Blood and Wine yet) and started the books (although I didn’t get on with them). So if you want to throw in other canon references, I’m probably going to be quietly delighted in a self-satisfied “ooh, I get that!” kind of way.

I’ve tagged the characters I’m most interested in, but there are none I wouldn’t want to see. I also prefer Geralt & Jaskier to Geralt/Jaskier but I am happy reading both. I would prefer to avoid shipping Ciri romantically with any of these characters, but otherwise anything else goes.

Again, many of these prompts could go for tricks or treats. Pile the bodies high and make them suffer or wrap them in thick blankets and keep them warm and cosy by a good fire, both are excellent!

- Non-human Jaskier - Emotional support bard Jaskier! - Anything with music and singing - Truth spells/compulsions - Platonic intimacy - Life on the path - Magic gone wrong/the laws of magic/someone has unexpected magic - Canon divergence – Ciri finds someone else first during/after S1, not Geralt (Jaskier, Yennefer, another character) - Post-canon for S2 - Mousesack lives! - Missing moment/pre-canon for Ciri & Calanthe & Mousesack (& Eist?) - Geralt and Jaskier have an adventure - Any two or more characters have an adventure! - Facing a monster from the canon’s bestiary/fulfilling a contract – either a short incident or a longer odyssey. - Character comes back wrong! - The nature of destiny. - Exploration of Geralt’s wish and its consequences - HALLOWEEN: is there a Halloween equivalent on the continent? How is it celebrated? How do these characters mark it? There are real monsters and terrors and ghosts in this world.

4. Downton Abbey

- Did anyone else hear Guy Dexter’s offer to Barrow and think “what the fuck that is too good to be true run Thomas run”? Because I did. There are a thousand ways that could go horribly, terribly wrong, and almost none in which it could go right. (Period-typical homophobia, and classism, they’re doubly fucked.) But Thomas can be a romantic and is open to taking risks and definitely isn’t happy in service even as butler, so maybe he’d take the offer. I’d be open to reading any outcome of that decision. - Either Bates (or later Anna) is convicted for murder! And hanged, no miracles! What happens then? - How did Mrs Hughes and Mrs Patmore first meet? Were they both in their senior roles at the top of their departments then, or did they work their way up together? - What if the Kemal Pamuk episode went differently? For Mary, for Thomas, or for Anna. - Any missing moments. - How do the downstairs staff keep in touch with their families, with only one half day off each week? - The inevitable passage of time, upstairs and downstairs. - How did Cora feel when she first arrived in England? Happy or horrified?

5. Marvel Cinematic Universe

I would enjoy fic at any point in the MCU timeline, not just Phase Four.

Alright, so this is pretty Thor heavy. I think it’s because I’ve only recently seen Love and Thunder and still have feelings, and once upon a time got hit over the head with a really, really excellent Darcy/Loki fic and I’ve been craving more ever since.

The outlier here is Morgan Stark, because I wonder how she copes after her father’s death, how she grows up. I mean, the dead dads club is definitely a thing – if you know, you know – but what’s it like to be a member so young? And she comes from an exceptional background, and Tony’s relationship with his father scarred him. How does Morgan’s relationship with her father – even if that relationship is absence and grief – scar her? Or go fluffy, where other characters support and raise her because it takes a village.

But back to the Thor characters:

What is it like to be ordinary amongst superheroes? Genuinely ordinary. How do these characters live up to (or down to) others’ expectations? Anything, anything at all, for Darcy Lewis/Loki. Idfic, magical accident, punishment/imprisonment, at any point in canon. “Nobody else can kill you, that’s my job” kind of protectiveness? Cancer fic for Jane? The movie somehow ignored its psychological effect on her. I would like to see more of Love, for good or ill, and this odd new family and role to play. How do the worldview and perspective of the Asgardian characters compare to the humans around them? Does that lead to happiness or heartache, favour or disaster? HALLOWEEN: Any of these characters celebrate Halloween, in either an Asgardian way or in the way we would. Do they take it to the absurd?

6. Bridgerton (TV)

Okay, so, S2 was not quite what I was expecting, and it wasn’t a terribly close adaptation of the book, but it was still a lot of fun. I was very, very “what the fuck” from the end of episode four right through to the end of the season, peaking in episode six with some what the actual FUCK, and basically watched it in one sitting on release day and into the night. So, please, play with that.

I have read books 1-4 but noped the fuck out after the end of book four because some of the writing was so poor – it was idfic to a degree that I couldn’t tolerate in a “professional” novel. That said, I am 100% there for idfic in fandom.

Unwanted consequences from the night in the gazebo Kate leaves for India Lady Danbury’s backstory Violet Bridgerton is displaced as Countess and from her family home Eloise and Penelope’s friendship and falling out Benedict Bridgerton gets at the tea again Anthony and Edwina get married and have immediate regret! (There’s no easy way out!) The charmed life breaks for one or more of the characters and they have an unpleasant brush with the real world

7. Jane Eyre - Charlotte Brontë

This is my favourite classic novel, that I’ve reread every few years since reading an abridged version as a girl, most recently for Yuletide 2020. And my understanding and perception has changed so dramatically as I’ve seen more of the world myself. Rochester is more bad guy than good guy and that Jane Eyre lies as a narrator and is as prejudiced and superior as those she crititcises for the same qualities. But I still love her, and that she says she got a happy ending. That doesn’t mean it has to stay happy!

What if the Thornfield wedding isn’t interrupted? (I'm writing this myself too, very slowly.) Does Jane come to see Rochester as a villain? Does she find herself corrupted, tarnished or lessened in his eyes in some way when he comes to marry/possess her and the sharper, darker side of his character turns on her once she’s off her pedestal? Does Jane resent being Rochester’s carer, his eyes and hands? If they have children, what does that do to Adele’s place in the family? Is she beloved sister or unwanted burden? (Any POV here – hers, Rochester’s, an outsider. I can’t see Jane considering her a burden but I could perhaps see Jane being torn in too many directions and having no time left for Adele, leaving her bereft.) What if Adele’s mother returned to collect her, or for some other (nefarious) purpose? Post-canon happiness? Post-canon unhappiness? A missing moment between the interrupted wedding and Jane fleeing Thornfield? How does Rochester discover she’s missing? How does Adele find out? How do they both react? What is that day like?

8. The Godfather (Movies)

Michael Corleone/Apollonia Vitelli Apollonia Vitelli Kay Adams Michael Corleone

Apollonia and the American dream: what does she actually want? Is Michael a way to get it? (Children, comfort, fortune, adventure, love, other?) What does Kay want? Compare the women, be thoughtful or go dark. I’m always intrigued by Kay’s Catholicism, especially in the book. The movie’s ending happens too, but then Kay goes to church with Mama Corleone and prays for Michael’s soul. Michael’s grief at losing both women in his life, in very different ways. A missing happy moment for any of these characters or either couple. A contrast between weddings – Connie’s, Apollonia’s, Kay’s, others. What if Apollonia had lived, and met Kay? What if Apollonia lives? I feel like Kay makes a “better” American wife for Michael, in the world he wants to move in. Would the path have unfolded differently with a different woman at his side? Does the ghost of Apollonia haunt Michael at later points in his life?

9. The West Wing

Okay, so, I ship Josh/Donna pretty hard and otherwise tend to read canon relationships and gen here, but I’ll read anything I can believe. And this is a 300 word minimum exchange (I know, my prompts don’t always seem to reflect that!) so just a moment of another non-canon ship would be fun.

Gaza angst! Why did Ainsley leave? What if the S1 shooting went down differently? A missing moment with any combination of characters. Platonic intimacy! Pre-canon scenes or first meetings for any of the characters that we don’t see on screen. Or post-canon – what happens next for different characters? Reflecting on the passage of time. Treating one another like family HALLOWEEN: Do they mark Halloween in the West Wing? Even informally? Or does someone try, but it's difficult to do while still being taken seriously as a professional. Or do they celebrate Halloween in the Santos administration?

10. Stardew Valley

I first played this game within days of its release and I’ve played it through at least once a year ever since. I’m currently challenging myself to complete the Community Center in Y1, max points on Grandpa’s Evaluation in Year 2, and 100% Perfection by the end of Year 3. I’m on track so far, around Spring 14 Y2. It’s given me lots of fresh ideas and questions. Mild preference for female player, but only mild. - “My name’s not really Sandy, you know. It’s just good for business.” WHAT? - “The elemental wars have long since finished,” says Wizard. What were they? - And what about the current war with the Gotoro Empire, that Kent fought in? Does it come to Stardew Valley? Does it touch the villagers’ lives? The farmer’s? Has anyone won the Stardew Hero award before? - Clint is such a “nice guy” he tells us. I like Clint, but there’s fun to be had there for an author. He clearly adores Emily, but he’s awkward and unsure. What’s Emily’s side of it? For good or ill. - Marnie and Lewis sitting in a tree (or that truck outside Lewis’ house), K-I-S-S-I-N-G! Do they get caught in the act? By whom? Does their secret come out? What about the lucky purple shorts? Does Lewis lose his job? (Is he even elected anyway? Opposed in any way?) Or do people take Marnie’s side, that there’s nothing to hide, why is he such an arse? Does he have other secrets? Why is he ashamed of Marnie? - You know, I think that farmer used to have kids. What happened to them?? And now the farmer’s divorced but their ex doesn’t remember them at all? And the ex doesn’t remember the kids? All is not right on the farm, and villagers worry. - Witch/Wizard: what’s their history? How did it start/end? How does it impact the town? Do Caroline and Abigail have something to do with it? Grandpa? - Actually, what the hell was going on with Caroline and the Wizard? - I could enjoy a story about unexpected friendships between any of these characters. - What was the story with Sebastian’s dad, and how Robin came to be with Demetrius in the valley? Did Sebastian’s dad live in the valley? (Was Sebastian’s dad Grandpa and he’s the player’s uncle?) - Does anyone ever leave the town? Or are they forever cursed to remain and not age, a bit like the town in Once Upon a Time? - I could always read more about Shane and his struggles, for good or ill. - Sebastian has his issues too. Does he come to any harm in his solitary emo sulking around stormy beaches and atop mountains? Or do good things happen to him? - Do Sebastian and the farmer, or any other character, go on any more bike rides? - Some angst or hurt/comfort around a wounded farmer? Lost and trapped in the mines, or found and nursed back to health? Stranded/shipwrecked on Ginger Island? - HALLOWEEN: Shenanigans or supernatural occurrences at the Spirit's Eve festival. Do any of the monsters in the mines come to the surface and roam the mountain or desert? Trick or treating in Pelican town? Or any number of other things, sweet, sexy or black.
