Do you have time to talk about labor hero and community leader Chilchuck.
Can we talk about how his employers planned for him to die in an expedition and his takeaway was "shit I have to make sure that doesn't happen to any other half-foot".
How he is portrayed by others as greedy and selfish because of his union (a common way of villainizing unionization), but really it's because he knows how shitty adventurers are to his people and wants to keep them safe (also making money is not a crime, he's got to live damnit).
How later in the manga he realizes that many half-foots will struggle financially and go hungry so he wants to do something about it even thought he just went through a lot of insane shit and probably just wants to see his wife and kids.
How despite the snark and grumpiness you can easily see how he raised three girls in how he tries to talk to Izutsumi and takes care of Marcille's hair for her.
He's a sardonic little bastard but also a genuinely caring guy that wants to help his community thrive.

Protects his daughters, realises izutsumi is basically a child, keeps her safe from Laios albeit begrudgingly. Very tired dad energy from the man.

Hi! Could i request Laios's party with a reader that mumbles the oddest/stupidest things in their sleep? Like each time the others have night watch they know they can't count on [reader] to entertain them with their sleepy nonsense.
sleep talk
Tumblr media
꒰ includes ꒱ ⸻ (dungeon meshi) laios touden, chilchuck tims, marcille donato, senshi, and izutsumi.
꒰ warnings ꒱ ⸻ gn! reader, fluff.
꒰ blossom's note ꒱ ⸻ i don't sleep talk, but i do snore. this was fun to write, thank you for the request!
Tumblr media
izutsumi is always the most excited to listen to your nightly rambles (as long as she isn't exhausted) bc it's great entertainment.
she always teases you come morning, telling you the ridiculous things you say.
also likes prompting you to say stuff in your sleep.
"how many bears am i fighting?" you mumbled in your sleep, and she grinned maniacally as she said "100" to which you groaned and answered in your sleep "i'm just one person!"
she has so much fun messing with you and influencing your dreams/sleep talk.
the next one who's most entertained is laios, though he finds it more endearing because it reminds him of his childhood- falin often mumbled in her sleep too.
he's happy for your odd little mumbles, because it helps keep him awake during his nightly watches.
he's always hanging on to the edge of your story, never expecting the next thing that comes out your mouth- he'll chuckle and retell you in the morning.
might try and steer your sleepy talk to the realm of monsters, in which you usually wake up with a nightmare of sorts. you have no idea why you get so many monster nightmares, but it's always when laios is on night watch.
marcille has fun trying to figure out what you're dreaming- they says dreams are a view into someones subconscious, but if that's the case then she is very worried for you
"RATS!" you once shouted in your sleep, which startled and scared the shit out of marcille- she might wake you up just to make sure you're okay
if she's not on watch, and you fall asleep before her, she might use some magic to mute your mumblings bc they're very distracting
(and she will get caught up in an romantic or dramatic storyline your sleepy self concocts)
senshi worries if you're getting proper sleep with your all your sleep talking, so reassure him.
definitely was caught off guard the first time he witnessed your sleep talk and thought you were possibly pranking him.
after he's certain you're not pranking him, nor that sleep talk is linked to worse sleep, then he'll find comfort in your nightly chatter. it assures him that you're still safe and sound.
if he's ever mentioned in your sleeping mumbles, he'll get particularly interested in what you have to say, but otherwise he usually doesn't pay it much mind.
chilchuck is least fond of this habit, only when he's not on night watch because he's got sensitive ears and he can hear every single word you say.
will end up with his pillow covering both ears, in hopes of muffling your words.
when he does stay up to take watch for monsters though, he gets a good laugh and enjoys the entertainment you provide.
similarly to senshi, might worry the first time he hears your chatter (his dad instincts kick in lol) but once he's reassured you're okay, he'll relax
will reference your sleepy chatter during the day to see if you remember anything, but instead he just confuses you- it's like an inside joke, but he's the only one in on it apparently

Re: Winged Lion fulfilling Laios' desires + "Marcille will no longer have to be alone"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Throughout the lion's persuasion, Laios has been acting reluctant / defensive / angry / embarrassed. He tells the lion that his desires of having monsters attack a village was a foolish childhood fantasy. Concerning Falin, the lion tells him he's being a hypocrite because he's wishing for a peaceful world and they can't revive Falin without magic, then the lion says they'll move onto more cheerful topics and digs into Laios' "true" subconscious desire to become a monster (reflected in the succubus chapter).
Laios is clearly uncomfortable but the lion continues digging in. The lion mentions Laios' own desires of becoming a monster, loving monsters, desires that define Laios as a person, and almost glosses over his will to revive Falin? Because we all know he loves his sister and wants to save her. It's a noble and sympathetic act. But turning in a monster and potentially terrorizing or at least scaring people? Just because he wants to? To make up for his lack of social tact and his seeming distaste for humankind? That's not noble. So naturally Laios clings onto his goal of saving Falin (evident in the scene when the lion curses him and Laios immediately thinks of Falin), and just as naturally, the lion wants to uncover that and make him confront his "true" desire.
Laios loves his friends and his party, but I think the lion isn't granting them full livelihoods out of pure selflessness on Laios' behalf. Because his party, despite everything, accepts him. They cook with him, they journey with him to save Falin, they trust him, they support him. In the dungeon, Laios' monster knowledge is respected and valued by his friends. Right before the confrontation with the lion, Laios gives each of his party members something to do, in particular telling Izutsumi to kill him. This is probably because of her skills and the fact that he's known Izutsumi the least (and they're less close compared to, let's say, Izutsumi and Marcille). But regardless of how long he's known them, he trusts them. He feels comfortable and confident around them. He feels supported. He knows his friends will do what he told them to do. And in a world in which Laios struggles to navigate due to his social skills, his companions are very precious to him. The party is aware of Laios' shortcomings but they follow and love him anyway. Keeping them unharmed is a noble act, but also selfish, because Laios likes being accepted and cared for.
Keeping the party safe is a vague concept, but then the lion goes for the kill— Marcille's lifespan.
And you can see Laios' expression instantly changes. There's a whole panel of his face. Previously, he's been uncomfortable and defensive. Even when the lion points out his "embarrassing" and "selfish" desire to be a monster, he's not as affected as he is. Now, he's shaken. He twitches. He knows something inside him just wavered. And the lion pounces on it.
Regarding why Laios wants Marcille to not be lonely, I have some thoughts:
Sympathy
Laios is the one who saw Marcille's nightmare and knows acutely what she fears. She lost Falin and was traumatised because of it. The whole party got killed and she was also traumatised. And Laios probably thinks it's his duty as a friend, party leader, and someone who saw into her nightmare to protect her and make her happy. Falin might never come back and maybe Marcille's already lost a loved one, and Laios doesn't want that to happen again even though it inevitably will.
2. Marcille's time as a dungeon lord
Laios' argument against lord Marcille is that she can't force everyone to eat from the same menu and not everyone wants to live that long. This might be a translation issue, but the lion doesn't say it's going to extend everyone's lifespans. No, it focuses on Marcille herself and says "Marcille will no longer have to be alone". Not "everyone will live as long as Marcille" or "Marcille will live as long as everyone else". It's not about ages, it's how Marcille feels. Which is something Laios obviously cares about.
Lord Marcille was unable to fulfill her desires. What if Laios does it for her, in a kind of "two in one" demon deal? Logistically, in order for the party to keep Marcille company, they'll have to live as long as she does (note the 999 years), or as the lion says, make up a fake version of themselves to keep her company. It might not be real, and with a bit of thinking, this dream crumbles, but the lion deviously targets the emotions and it overshadows rational thought. What if it's impossible to keep Marcille company for as long as she lives? Maybe the lion will magically make it work. Just maybe. And Laios holds onto this shred of hope.
3. Solidarity of being alone
Marcille, Laios, and Falin all experienced loneliness / feeling outcasted growing up. During the nightmare sequence, Laios says Marcille is different from him because her dream takes place in a library to show how hardworking she is. But ultimately, they are people who don't like being alone. Marcille warms up to eating monsters and accepts Laios for who he is. Laios rescues Marcille from the nightmare and the lion. They are each other's comfort zones and they keep each other company.
Laios doesn't want to be alone, hence the lion offering to save his friends. And he doesn't want Marcille to be alone, because he cares for her, and she's just like him in that regard.
Mentioning Marcille's feelings is what tips Laios over the edge. He isn't embarrassed or angry, he's frozen to the ground, shaken and persuaded. Arguably, saving Marcille is also a "noble" goal in the way saving Falin is a noble goal, but I think L+M has developed so far that saving her will feel like saving him because they both just want someone to keep them company (especially with the context of having lost Falin, who keeps them company and loves them for who they are).
Before all of this, Laios trusts Marcille with his precious gourmet guide. It's his hint that he's turned into his ideal monster, but the fact that he's given the embodiment of his dreams and desires to her shows how much he trusts her and feels comfortable around her. And it's Marcille who passes the guide around their friends as they all realise the monster is Laios. Even as a monster, Laios is recognised, his friends cheer for him, they want to save him.
I don't think I've seen anyone talk about this before, but later, Marcille tries using her summoned serpent / monster to eat monster Laios. (Like how she used it to eat her friends when she was a lord.) And Marcille's monster actually swallows Laios. But then Laios claws open its stomach and breaks free. Consumption is a form of love and salvation. I liked seeing their different monsters: Marcille's being a sleek serpent with flower motifs, kind of resembling her sky fish familiar that she used to rescue Senshi and Laios' almost chaotic chimera full of bits and pieces he picked up and carefully selected (including the scylla head he picked from the succubus). Marcille tries to save Laios by using her monster to eat him. They all save Falin by eating her monster parts. Even though initially Marcille was the one most picky about eating monsters, in the end she summons her own familiars and monsters and engages in her own way of creation / consumption.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And after all of this, it's Marcille who finds human Laios first. She doesn't berate him or anything, just treats him normally, tells him everyone is waiting for him. Because they accept each other and keep each other company. That's one of their core desires. Their character arcs intertwine and in the end they live together. Neither of them will have to be alone.

Dungeon Meshi has fully consumed me, especially a certain tiny union man, and I want to ramble about Chilchuck's traumatic backstory for a bit. Mild manga spoilers under the cut.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first time I read the manga I missed this bit, since I was reading an online version that didn't have all the extras included. Since I've come across this litte omake, though, I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. It just explains so much about why Chilchuck is the way he is.
First, at a surface level, it's interesting that this backstory only comes out in the framework of talking about a monster. Chilchuck is offering basically an anecdote about succubi, adding to the conversation he and his party are having about a monster species. It's all very casual and offhand. No one even remarks on what that experience would have meant to Chilchuck on a personal level, and he doesn't dwell on it, either. You have to wonder if Chilchuck would have ever mentioned it at all if they weren't specifically talking about succubi.
But holy heck, just think about this for a moment. On one of Chilchuck's first outings as an adventurer, possibly the first time he joined a party, his fellow adventurers were planning to feed him to a monster. He's only alive now because he had the instinct that something was wrong and had the speed, wisdom, and stealth to run away. He could have died. He could have been murdered. And it's implied that this happens to half-foots frequently in this world.
How traumatizing would that have been for a young adventurer? The people he should have been able to trust to have his back were literally planning his death, all for monetary gain. He was treated as disposable, a resource to be exploited, not a person. Not only is there the trauma of narrowly escaping death here, there's also the trauma of being mistreated and abused by other thinking, intelligent beings.
No freaking wonder he has trust issues. He's been working with Laios and his party for three years at this point and he's never shared a single solitary personal detail about his life, not even his age. He can't bear to allow any vulnerability to show, because he can't allow himself to be taken advantage of again. No wonder he's so prickly and wary. No wonder he's so sensitive to being viewed as anything other than a capable, skilled, fully realized and autonomous adult. No wonder he shies away from affection and any hint of closeness, especially in the early chapters of the manga.
I'm amazed that Chilchuck had the strength and fortitude to stay in the business at all. He considered his options and took steps to keep himself safe, including only accepting pay in advance and starting a union to protect himself and other half-foots. (Another tidbit you don't get at first in the story--Chilchuck is not just a member of a union or the leader, he started the whole dang thing to begin with.)
But what's so lovely, and wonderful, what makes this story take over my brain so completely and utterly, is that Chilchuck doesn't stay this way. Over the course of the manga, he opens up more and more. He allows himself to be emotionally vulnerable; he shares more and more details of his life. He treats Marcille and Izutsumi like daughters, Laios and Senshi like brothers. He loves them and allows himself to be loved in return.
And that's one of many reasons that Dungeon Meshi is one of the best found-family stories I've come across in a long, long time.

Dungeon Meshi characters and the music I think they'd listen to:
Laios - No real genre cohesion, but loves anything that he can imagine monsters to. He has extensive mental music videos of monsters doing cool things that he will set to songs which he plays on repeat. Probably has more movie and video game soundtracks than actual mainstream music.
Marcille - Florence and the Machine and Hozier are amongst her favorite artists, and she has a soft spot for ALL dramatic and romantic songs, especially with female vocalists. She guards her tastes very carefully, afraid of what others might think, but will gush to Falin about her interpretations of lyrics, and make her playlists all day long
Chilchuck - dad rock and certain folk punk tracks. He's been found in a puddle of tears listening to mountain goats songs about breakups, but he never mentions that when he lists his favorite artists because he wants you to THINK he's not fucked up over it. Will also listen to classic blues.
Senshi - A jazz lover if I ever saw one. He doesnt really listen to it except in the background while cooking or working, but he likes it because it reminds him of the improvisational side of cooking, and how it keeps him moving while he works.
Falin - I think Falin likes a lot of pop but has a particular soft spot for vocaloid, j-pop, k-pop and chiptune. She's just deeply autistic about the artists she likes, doesnt particularly "stan" anyone because she doesnt approach it like that, but she does try to get Marcille into it all (with mixed success)
Izutsumi - the meow mix jingle (breakcore remix) [10 hours]
Kabru - The widest range listener, because he'll gladly listen to and learn about any of the artists people around him listen to. He specifically keeps up with top 40 entirely so he can have an idea whats in the zeitgeist. If you ask him to put on something and he doesnt know your tastes he'll default to a "safe option" like chillhop beats to study/relax to
Thistle - This one I'm not super sure but Linkin Park for sure is a regular listen for him. Will cry-sing along with it. Probably also delves into other teenage angst music ranging from pop punk to emo. Would write his favorite lyrics in sharpie on his ragged converse
Shuro - All classical. He was raised to have extremely refined tastes and can play several instruments himself, but he doesnt have much interest in music really.
Namari - I dont know why but I feel like she'd have an eclectic mix of classic hip-hop artists like Missy Elliot, riot girl music, and old school heavy metal. Also probably has a soft spot for certain pop songs but refuses to admit it.
Mithrun - I want to say he'd be into Shoegaze but like, obviously does not seek out music, so he literally only listens to whatever those around him put on.
Fleki - Psych rock, psy-trance, trip-hop. Do i even have to explain
Lycion - All Hardcore. Loves the energy and will actively mosh.
Pattadol - An absolute Swiftie.
Cithis - The sort to listen to indie pop and then EVISCERATE you for your opinions on music online. Hates Swifties.
Otta - Loves mainstream hip-hop/pop music. I feel like she'd really love Doja Cat.
I think thats every main character. If you disagree with my thoughts dont be mean! We're all just trying to have fun here

dungeon meshi question: what do you think would have happened if the siblings places switched (laois eaten, falin transported to the surface)
hmm.. honestly i dont think it would change much about the story? since we don't know much about falin due to her lack of screentime it's quite difficult to visualize what falin would do if she was in the same situations as laois has been in. but here are my thoughts anyways (there will be few manga spoilers but i wouldn't go beyond vol 7 since im currently on vol 7)
thinking about combat-vise and how they'll survive the dungeon, i think the party might be at disadvantage since they will have to rely too much on marcille (or sometimes senshi) for damage dealing but falin could still protect them with her healing and defense spells (which laois couldn't until marcille taught him healing magic but it's not as powerful as falin's) but again we don't know much about falin apart from the fact that she's the healer.
but here's the thing, laois is not as dumb as people make him out to be. he has a vast knowledge about the dungeon and the monsters, their weak points and how they can be killed. and that's necessary for their survival you can't just rely on magic alone you need to know about your enemies before facing them. well im not saying falin or marcille don't have that knowledge (marcille does and her knowing elvish language is very crucial for the team since they'd get to know the secrets and lore behind the dungeon) but since magic is their field of expertise so i believe their knowledge about the dungeon monsters is quite limited than that of laois. but i maybe wrong or there is a possibility that laois did tell falin about the dungeon and the monsters. since she's a healer she might not be flexible enough like laois is but i still feel like she'd survive on her own way. and obviously kensuke will not be in the equation anymore since falin does not use a sword so detecting unknown monsters might be tough for them. but all that aside i think her exorcism and healing could be a lot helpful for the party. and again, whenever laois faces any enemy he goes all out against them (except he holds back against falin chimera) so i doubt falin might be able to do the same but magic might come in handy who knows...
apart from that i dont think anything will change, since falin and laois share the same appetite so falin would still accept senshi to join the party. one thing that struck me was.. what will happen to the rest of the party? will their motifs change because they're saving laois? the party doesn't seem to care about laois like they care about rescuing falin even to the point that marcille used illegal black magic to resurrect her. will she do the same thing with laois or will she let falin revive him? again idk if falin knows revive magic, if she doesn't then marcille would have to use black magic. if falin does know revive magic then the story would just end there. no laois chimera or stuff like that. and i think laois chimera won't even be any different than falin chimera (since they're controlled by the same person).
the party's motifs might change though... they'd be kinder to falin than they are with laois, agree to her decisions no matter how risky it could be or maybe they'll stick to being on falin's side just to keep her safe while she's trying to save her brother. that may or maynot be the case. but shuro would not come back to the dungeons to save laois because he fucking hates him lmao. so shuro is out of the equation too. but that also means no izutsumi :(((

NGL when I followed this blog I thought it was just a run-of-the-mill Izutsumi fan blog so when the first post I saw today was about you eating her out I was surprised lol. I'm not judging btw I just was not expecting that at all
I'm still going to keep following for the same reason I started tho to collect images of Izutsumi as she is great.
XD yeah sorry for the little tonal shift there lol. also i will say thank you for being polite and stuff with this, thats impressive this day and age online. and yeah my blog is a unique one in that i ship myself with izutsumi (going as far as making a self insert and imagining stuff between us) and that often includes nsft stuff about it. From what ive seen i am like...The only person that ships themself with her so my blog is def a unique one in that way. if it helps i tag all posts like that as "nsft" (an acronym for not safe for tumblr). and you can blacklist the tag if you would like that way you can still follow for all the izutsumi content i reblog without having to see my thirsting for this fictional catgirl XD
