my sister suggested a song to the qsmp fandom. Specifically the guapoduo ship. Because of the random bullshit i tell her. Papaya by laura rizzotto.
Brazilian singer. the song is in Spanglish. Laura also has a carioca version (which is sung entirely in BR portuguese, iirc).
If anyone wants an animatic idea, here you go. altho, it be fun if you remix the 2 versions so you have a Portunholish version.
Update: I just told my sister that cc!Forever is a carioca and now she's a little confused on how to use the song in the fandom. let the people figure it out. they always do.

For no other reason than because I think about them a lot, my not-in-order top 5 songs that should have made it to Eurovision but ripped my heart in half instead Electric Fields - 2000 and whatever
youtube
I'm pretty sure this song exists outside of the space-time continuum I feel like Australia in Eurovision either goes very sleak or absolute circus, and what's in between kinda gets lost on the way This one was fresh, flowy, very millennial in a way, also hearing bits of australian aboriginal languages in ESC would have been hella cool Madara - Esamība
youtube
If you've ever stumbled upon my blog in 2018 you may know how mad I was that Latvia didn't choose this (and no deep crush on Laura Rizzotto ever managed to heal that anger asdfghjkl) This is just one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard :" It's existential, it's symbolic, it's ethereal, it has a slow but mighty fine build-up, and plus it was composed on that wonderful cello sound, which, AHHHHHH Loreen - Statements
youtube
At this point I get it, in Melodifestivalen songs need to be awesome "on the spot", because its audience doesn't really like to have to think about them more than once to understand them This probably sounds insulting lol but I think it's just a big cultural difference (I don't think it's a coincidence that there was a part of the Italian fandom who actually did root for this at the time, it was much more up their alley than Euphoria ever had any chance to be) The choral, deeply meaningful performance, the raw power in her voice, the historical references...this was never going to win Mello, in hindsight it was clear to see, but I'm still glad Loreen brought it to life and showed she isn't just cool beats and dancey vibes KEiiNO - Monument
youtube
This isn't even a scar, it's an open wound and it's still bleeding :" They didn't have to be in the 2021 line-up to win, they had to be in it because 2021 was the strongest year since 1991 and they were literally the only great thing missing from it and deserved to be there to make it even stronger Hands down the one that hurt the most out of all of these Tosca - Il terzo fuochista
youtube
I am cheating a little bit with this one because this competed in Sanremo 2007, so even if it had won it wouldn't have gone to ESC anyway because we were still on voluntary exile :" 2007 was my first Sanremo, I was just a kid and this mesmerized me to the point it has lived in my head ever since, there's only Tosca singing it but it's basically a choral reenactment of a typical italian country fair that culminates in fireworks (yes you could say this song is literally about fireworks AND feelings lol it can be done Salvador!) This is a peak of musical creativity that Sanremo, even in its mostly recurring attention to quality, doesn't reach very often My favourite Sanremo song ever

32 and 93 for the spotify fic game?
Hi!! You're getting two fandoms and two genres for the price of one ask, hope you enjoy <3
93. Funny Girl - Laura Rizzotto
Let's begin with the pain :) The artist sings about finding herself wanting to be with someone after locking herself away for so long, feeling like they're going in the right direction together, but in the end she's stuck in the friendzone, while the person she wants is with someone else, and she's asking herself how she can make them love her too.
So let's go Steddie with this! Eddie's perspective. At first it felt like a joke, haha, I'm friends with Steve Harrington, how did that happen. They're friends, they vibe so well, and Steve seems to really like Eddie too, engaging with him, always laughing at his jokes. So Eddie finds himself falling for him. And Steve is so good, Eddie takes down all the walls he built over the years to protect himself. He's ready to bare it all to Steve, thinking he might like him back like that.
But then there's Nancy. And as soon as Eddie is ready and vulnerable, he realises that Steve doesn't like him back. He likes Nancy. He doesn't say it, but it's so obvious in the way they look at each other, and there's this nice lyric about "how you walk in smelling like her perfume."
Eddie isn't bitter, he's just sad. He wants Steve, he was ready to be with Steve, so now he's just wondering how he can make Steve feel the way he feels about Nancy about Eddie too, asking what Eddie is lacking that Nancy has, how he wants to be what Steve is looking for.
Idk, this might be just pure yearning. But maybe at the end I would put a paragraph or two where Steve finally looks back at Eddie, but Eddie doesn't notice.
32. Wildflower - 5 Seconds of Summer
And now some fluff to soothe our souls
I—did not realise how sexual this song was until I looked up the lyrics for this, my bad, so we're just gonna focus on these couple lyrics, because I love them and they always stick out to me, because I feel like they work really well with my writing style.
I hear you calling out my name / I love the sound, I love the taste
So I've actually already written a fic where Willie calls Alex "Wildflower" and this song gave me the idea for that. So this fic would be kinda the progress of how got there.
I wanted Willie to want to call Alex one of the names of the flower that grow in the garden behind his house.
I think I would make this a 3/5+1, 3 or 5 instances Willie calls Alex a flower name and it didn't fit + 1 time he just calls him Wildflower and it fits perfectly. It would be written from Alex's perspective, and every time Willie would call him any of those names, he'd just melt a little further, fall a little deeper for Willie, because he loves how Willie says those beautiful words with him in mind. But Willie has strong opinions about the names, so he's not satisfied until he finally settles on Wildflower, which Willie thinks fits great, and has Alex dead on the floor.
Thank you so much for sending these! They're such great songs and have so much potential, I love them!

Eurovision 2010s: 235 - 231
Disclaimer: All of these songs are pretty fine overall. Not enough to upgrade them to the next tier however, because they’re still fairly boring.
235. Femminem - “Lako je sve” Croatia 2010
youtube
We kick off this FINAL borewhore slaughter before the ~Like It~ zone with a fairly decent return effort! I don’t think “Lako je sve” has the has even near the same panache as “Call me” (which was an excellent piece of hilarious schlager trash <3), but it’s servicable. I like the dancers and the random heart, but the rest skews a bit too much into the “Blonde Woman Screams Into A Windmachine” trope that, as I’ve already established, is one I don’t care all that much about.
________________________________________________________________
234. Gabriela Gunčíková  - “I stand” Czech Republic 2016
youtube
Wait, there’s still more of the same ilk? Well, yes, but I think Gabi is lowkey iconic for being the ~very first Czech finalist ever~ and receiving 0 points in the televote. 😬 I actually think she’s kind of underrated though, lol. The staging is really pretty. It’s lowkey visually stunning. Love the pink triangles and the hairflip after the bridge is legendary.
Tumblr media
The song is superboring though. 🙃

233. PÆNDA - “Limits” Austria 2019
youtube
Omg another nilpointing Gabriela <3
I’m kind of sad Pænda flopped though, lol. 😔 I mean, the song is... difficult to get into, and absolutely not suited for Eurovision and it kind of fizzled into nothingness... but I found it a brave and inspired choice. I appreciate that Austria wanted to do something different and stylistic and the end result wasn’t at all bad? But it also wasn’t good enough to thrill me or Europe, so...

232. Natália Kelly  - “Shine” Austria 2013
youtube
A Presence That Was Liked.
________________________________________________________________
231. Laura Rizotto - “Funny girl” Latvia 2018
youtube
[2018 Review here]
Laura is a representative of the fairly awkward lot of good NF winning songs that didn’t survive the transition to Eurovision proper unscathed. I love her and “Funny girl” though. Moody songs about the friendzones <3 Hairflips galore <3 But I think *this very performance* is also easily the least good one. The camera angles were off, Laura came across as defeated, the dress wasn’t as glamorous. It sucks that I have to nitpick here, but Laura came SO close to reaching the final and it’s those tiny inaccuracies that cost her the qualification, and worse, my heart.
