Hey so I found u thru the Halved Live Funnies and I gotta ask... whose Leon? What series these dudes from?
i got this ask and then forgot about it for like 2 days. anyways.
IVE ANSWERED THIS BEFORE BUT. GOD. LEON. ok so like....... long story short last year was when i first played resident evil........ bc we got a copy of re2remake in and.... jesus christ. i hyperfixated so fucking hard for the better part of a year going on into this year. and then i watched hl/vr and well. we know where that went. but now i am once again hyperfixated and now im back to where i was in like.... june of last year LMAO. but anyways i am once again going to ramble under the cut about them <3 (seriously. its very long and doesnt go much of anywhere. also spoilers)
tl/dr:
Tumblr media
OK. SO. resident evil. the last time i answered this ask i either hadnt played some of them or just completely forgot the plot of others LOL but now upon beating/playing a large majority of them (besides 6 which i have not touched yet, and 7 is first person and im not rly interested in it rn)...... well others have said this as well but if you like cheesy b action movies you would love resident evil!!!
the orig 1-2 are more survival horror which is what i like the most. 3 is where it starts branching into more actiony stuff but is still survival horror. but 4 and after is just like..... cheesy action stuff which is fine but not really like.... my thing. altho i do think that they are fun in a “this plot is hilariously bad” type way because i do enjoy horrible things. but people who like resident evil dont like it for the plot they like it for the characters. and for me i latched the fuck onto leon kennedy and tyrant t-00 aka mr fucking x
listen.......... you guys know me relatively well enough to know that i have a type......... and i would define leon as not really fitting under it usually because he is 1. under 6 foot 2. human and 3. very much not a villain. but something about (mostly remake) leon hits fucking different!!!!!! hes kind and means well, thinks about others constantly, looks like an actual fucking person in the in game graphics instead of being some manufactured perfect model, nice voice, etc....... i fucking care him so much. also gameplay wise i find his weapons to be more enjoyable than claires so i always end up playing his route/2nd route the most compared to hers. but i do also like claire :) shes nice and epic
i dont really like the newer leons (4 and afterwards) as much.... i mean a lot of it has to do with trauma and general “growing up” after what happened in re2 but hes just so constantly... snarky? jaded? constantly spouting lines to make him seem cool? when in my head hes very much like... a loser LMAO. i mean dont get me wrong hes a badass. he survives a fucking zombie outbreak and nearly gets murdered dozens of time. thats the definition of badass. but also you cannot change my mind that hes also a anxious loser twunk. there is literally nothing you can do to convince me he is “cool” like the games and movies want to think. this is probably heresy to re fans but this is my truth
https://youtu.be/aVZWuSfGStk?t=129
here is a vid of his cutscenes. obvious spoilers in there but you can skip around and see how cute he is. also yes in his first cutscene he is listening to butt rock. i switch between thinking hes just listening to it because nothing else is on the radio or his taste really is that terrible
also you literally CANNOT convince me that he is straight. the games try SOOOOO hard to get you to ship leon/ada or leon/claire but like...... i cannot see it. he has one of the gayest run animations i have ever seen in re2 remake and i mean... he just radiates gay trans man energy to me. also please look at this small scene from one of the animated movies where a licker jumps on top of him and he wraps his legs around its hips and lifts it off of him to not die. gay king
https://youtu.be/d-VNikxYBPw?t=9
but yes ive basically decided to ignore all characterization from re4 and onwards regarding leon at least. every leon after that is not my leon (except in special cases when im thinking about something like leon/jd from re damnation..... they did jd so dirty and they should have fucking kissed. or how cute he looked in vendetta sometimes)
ANYWAYS. MR X
so basically there are these enemies in resident evil called “tyrants” that are manufactured by the evil capitalist company umbrella that are near indestructible save for like.... rocket launchers or super heavy artillery that youre not buying at your local gun store. and in re2 one of them get sent to the police station where leon and claire are and is told to wipe out all witnesses. (i also do think that 2 or more were sent there... or at least in the area when this happened due to some very obvious plot hole stuff on each route no matter how you play, even tho the devs have come out and said that only 1 existed in the game and that each route is like “a parallel dimension” to each other. i wont go into it more than that but i choose to ignore that)
and well. when i first played it i knew of mr x but didnt like... know much about him other than that he was a monster and Tall (like 7 or 8 feet tall) and that he chased you around. that already sold me on him but then. well. you first encounter him because he lifts up an entire goddamn helicopter and then proceeds to chase you. and it was then that i knew i was in deep shit because he fucking stomped his way into my heart and never left.
mr x basically has serious Side Character Disorder where (even tho the remake made him very cool and epic and did him really well compared to nemesis in re3 remake which is an entire different can of worms) he has LITERALLY no personality or like. thoughts. or anything. hes only there to chase you around and be on screen for like 10 seconds for a couple of cutscenes and then not show up again until the very end of the game for you to fight on leons route. but god. he means so fucking much to me.
you know how people latch onto random side characters that have no personality and essentially flesh them out more than the creators ever will? thats me with mr x. its gotten to the point where certain songs come on on my spotify and i actually get EMOTIONS or even TEARS because they remind me of him, but its not even really HIM, its the fucking ideas that ive come up with regarding him because all he ever does in game is chase you around and punch you and then die and is never brought up again
but anyways. mr x is a tall monster who chases leon and claire around in their routes but mr x is leons main monster in the game (claire has a different one). he chases leon around, literally never stops looking at him as he chases him, gets hit by an entire fucking car which then explodes BUT THEN chases him down into the sewers and into a secret underground lab just to get to him like a fucking bloodhound who, once he has the scent, will never stop chasing him
(you can see why this made me kind of insane)
just. AGHHH. the tyrants in this series get treated so dirty. i desperately want capcom to give us some sort of tyrant that can actually fucking like.... go against orders and brainwashing or whatever and actually have emotions and thoughts!!!!!!!!!! but capcom would never do anything with it cause its a rough and tough action series and people arent here to see tyrants have some sort of thought process beyond punching and killing and people only want to shoot guns at them instead of thinking about the possibilities of a tyrant that goes against its programming.
i so desperately want an au where mr x got the transmitter shot off of the side of his head (and while capcom never mentioned this ever many re2 fans have since decided that it is what feeds info/orders to him. i flip flop between thinking that it either is near controlling him and prevents free will and thought or that its just giving him orders and that hes just burying/hiding/not showing free will and thought in fear of being killed. either that or someone at umbrella is “piloting” him but also the whole point of tyrants is that theyre supposed to be smart enough to think for themselves somewhat so... eh). GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!
ive explained a bunch of this stuff in my other ask about it but just...... xleon means so much to me when it should not and will never be actually canon
anyways please play re2 remake at least, you dont have to know everything about re1 to like it, just go into it knowing that a few months ago in the mountains outside raccoon city claires brother chris and a few members on his team went to a mansion where they discovered umbrella doing shady zombie shit there. re2 remake was hyped up for years for a reason and it is really good, even if its short (altho i do appreciate short games in this day and age cause not every game needs to be like 60 plus hours long).
maybe one day when its not late and i can actually think i will explain all this better but todays not that day <3
(EDIT: ALSO RE DAMNATION TYRANTS ARE 14 FEET TALL. AND CHASE AROUND LEON AND ACTUALLY FUCKING RUN. FUN FACT! anyways while i do think jd in that movie and leon should kiss i also want leon and a tyrant from that movie to kiss. bye)

1 BBY
Your slender fingers wove Cassidy’s bright, scarlet locks into tight, chunky braids. You hummed her favorite lullaby—a force of habit—as you secured the end of the braid with a band. She skipped towards the mirror hanging on the wall and let her fingertips glide over her hair.
“Is that how you like it?”
“Yes, Mommy, thank you!”
“You’re welcome, darling,” you received your thanks in full payment of a kiss and hug from Cassidy. “Go fetch your things now. Don’t forget your jacket, okay?”
“Okay!” she hopped down from her bed and started rummaging through her cabinets for stuff that she’ll bring in the trip.
You excused yourself and exited her bedroom, Cassidy was too excited to coherently reply to your permission. The ten-year-old’s heart was racing, her mind imagined so many things that could possibly happen, and she began visualizing what the place would look like.
Due to her excitement, she didn’t realize that she had taken a bit of her time in packing. She had gone through a raincheck of the contents of her backpack thrice now. She hastily slung the bag on her shoulders and snatched her crumpled poncho lying on a pile.
“Coming, Mom!” she announced, speeding out of her bedroom to join her parents at the door.
She slipped her both her hands into you and Cal’s hands, the three of you left your homestead and trekked towards the Mantis waiting a few meters away from the house.
The ship’s entry ramp unfolded, Cassidy lets go of your hands when you’ve reached a certain distance between the ship, her backpack bobbed up and down in every step as she ran towards the luxury cruiser.
“Aunt Cere! Aunt Merrin!” Cassidy squeaked happily, attempting to fit both women in her scrawny arms.
“Cassidy! Look how big you’ve gotten!” Cere chuckled, her hand patted Cassidy’s head and then hovered it to the empty space to emphasize the girl’s height.
“Any longer and you might just out-tall me—if that’s even a word!” Greez came in waddling into the scene. He had all four of his arms open for Cassidy and she gladly threw herself into them.
“I grew three inches this month!” she bragged, then proceeded to tease him by tussling the non-existent hair on his head to further establish her taking the lead in this height race she has with the Lateron.
The captain grumbled, uncertain to the crew whether he was joking around or is genuinely frustrated that the once-tiny Kestis kid is getting taller and taller each month. You and Cal eventually caught up with the crew, greeting each other with embraces and claps on the shoulders or backs.
“She’s quite excited,” Cere’s eyes rolled to the side, referring to Cassidy who was now busy checking out the terrarium.
“Yeah, let’s hope the entire ordeal doesn’t deter her,”
“She’ll be fine, [y/n],”
Revisiting the engine room and then spotting the lone white cot on the side brought back a lot of memories, it’s as though a long time has passed since you and Cal slept here. It had become an extra room since the three of you have made a home by the forest in Zera III.
You approached the now-empty workbench, you weren’t used to seeing it bare, having only the non-slip mat left—it was eventually returned to its former, cluttered glory when Cal settled the toolboxes specifically for this trip.
“Everything she’ll ever need is right here,”
“Where is she?”
“With Greez at the cockpit,”
“Oh no, is she pestering him to teach her how to drive?” the idea seemed rich, you’re already imagining the Lateron dealing with the redheaded handful that is your daughter.
Cal’s mockingly pensive look and a quick glance to the direction of the door meant “yes.” The two of you laughed among yourselves, Greez’s shouts from the cockpit amplified the comedy that was playing out in your heads. When the laughter died down, you surveyed the quarters.
“Is it just me or did this room just got narrower?”
“Feels pretty much the same to me,”
“Yeah, brings back memories,”
Cal leaned closer to you, his warm breath blew on your shoulder and the hairs on your nape pricked up.
“Oh yeah, which ones?” he purred suggestively.
“Very funny,”
He teased you some more, brushing away the hair over your shoulders to expose your neck for his lips to brush against.
“Cal, not while she’s here,”
“We can always lock the door—say it suddenly jammed,” he nibbled your earlobe as his hand searched for yours to intertwine with.
He continued to suckle your neck, a weak yelp escaped your throat—his eyebrows flicked up upon hearing it, his lips curled in satisfaction as he continued prod the tip of his tongue to the crook of your shoulder. Your arm began to move by itself, reaching for the railing as support—you knew what your body was trying to make you do, with your only weapon being your willpower, your hand gripped the edge of the table instead.
“Well? How about it, love?” he sniggered.
You didn’t know why it pained you to pull yourself away, just when your body was beginning to heat up. You twirled to face him, looked him in the eye and gathered the guts to tell it to his face.
“Might I remind you that we have our daughter on board,” you steeled your voice, when you saw the puppy eyes being deployed, you bit your lip and fiddled with the buckle of Cal’s armor. “But later—when she’s sound asleep.”
A glint in Cal’s eye shone brighter than the white dwarf star found in Zera III’s sky. Amused, you stood on the tips of your toes to plant a tender kiss on his lips. You playfully clapped his chest with both of your hands before walking out of the quarters.
You switched on the holotable and typed the coordinates of Ilum. The message reflected on Greez’s computer and he charted the Mantis to its course.
“Now en route to Ilum!” the Lateron captain announced.
The family lounged in the holotable couch, Cassidy knelt behind Merrin in an attempt to braid her platinum hair which has grown dramatically over time—the length had already reached the center of her spine—and bantered with her father.
“Hey Dad, did you and Mom go to the Gathering together when you were younger?” Cassidy finally secured the twisted braid with a pin fastened to the back of Merrin’s head.
You and Cal exchanged glances, something warranted your eyes to meet. Then Cal quickly turned back to his daughter who now sat beside him on the sofa.
“No, we didn’t, unfortunately,”
“Would’ve been great if you did!”
“Yeah,” Cal trailed off, then returned his glance to you, a rather shy smile traced along his lips. “It would.”
The Mantis’s speed had slowed down, indicating your arrival in the planet’s orbit. Cassidy rushed to the cockpit. In her excitement, she stood between the seats, leaning closer and closer until she gets a better view of the ice-white planet that filled the roundness of her black pupils.
“Whoa, kid! Settle down, we’ll get closer in a few seconds!” Greez grumbled, both amused and overwhelmed by the kid’s wild hybrid of enthusiasm and excitement—honestly, he couldn’t tell which of the two anymore.
“Cassidy, you’ll hit your head once we get atmospheric turbulence,” Cal softly scolded as he assisted in flying the ship.
Cal cautioned her to buckle up and she ran to the nearest seat she could find—the chair opposite of Cere’s. The Mantis quaked as it cut through the thick clouds and heavy sheen of the snowstorm. Greez knew exactly where to the land—in the same spot behind a rock wall against the direction of the wind.
The child hopped out of her seat and sprinted towards the quarters where she had stashed her backpack. She moved with such brisk in the same fashion that one would be in when the phrase “This is not a drill” rings in an alarm. She slipped into the beige poncho with dark grey sleeves which she inherited from Cal. Despite the height she prided herself with, the poncho’s length fell to her shins—had she been shorter, it would have been a robe!
It didn’t bother her though, for she knew that it would keep her extra warm. She popped out of the quarters, the flap of the poncho billowing as she waddled about excitedly.
“Where’s Mom?”
“She’s already in the Temple,” Cal took her hand and the blizzard’s air wafted into the ship, sending literal chills down everybody’s spine.
“Cassidy,” the child glanced over her shoulder to the call of her name. “May the Force be with you.”
She repaid the greeting with a smile and then headed out of the ship. The coldest wind to have ever existed blew onto her already-numbing face, specks of ice pricked her freckled cheeks, and snowflakes have already adorned the twists of her braids as they billowed in the harsh winter gale.
“This blizzard is just the beginning, Cassidy! But don’t let it discourage you,” her father lectured as they stamped through ankle-deep snow—in Cassidy’s case, it’s calf-deep.
Her arm shielded her eyes as she felt the hand of her father on the small of her back, guiding her through the trek towards the entrance of the temple. A great mound of snow, perhaps meters thick, divided Cassidy and her kyber crystal.
“There’s no way we’re getting through this path,” Cal hinted, indirectly urging her to think for herself.
Admittedly, she didn’t anticipate that she’d be challenged head-on this soon. This didn’t discourage the Padawan, she unstrapped her backpack and fished out her own pair of climbing claws—she punched the wall, driving the metal nails into the rock face caked with ice and snow, and started scaling upward.
“Attagirl,” Cal muttered under his breath.
He watched his daughter scale the ice wall, Cassidy had become more acrobatic and lithe with her movements—something that she has utilized greatly to her advantage as she grew up with her training.
The beads of sweat freeze over her pores the second they come out, the closer she got to the top of the ice wall, the heavier her body felt.
“No…! Not now, not when I’m so close!!” she growled through clenched teeth, tugging her one arm out of the wall and then burying the claws again a few inches above her head to hoist herself up.
Come on, Cassidy! Pull up!
She coaxed herself mentally, a stripe of frosted sweat dripped along her temples until she finally reeled herself upward, scuttling through the snow to bring her body to the flat surface. She spotted a pair of boots planted on the soil, when she shot her head up, it was Cal; apparently, she was too caught up in reaching the top of the wall that she didn’t realize her father had beaten her to it. But it wasn’t a race, this was a trial—a trial that she had to face alone.
“Good job,” the emotion in Cal’s voice had unusually become stricter, almost sounding like Jaro Tapal. “We’ll be expecting you inside.”
Without awaiting a reply from her, he disappeared into the opening of the wall—Cassidy followed him into that opening and found an empty room. Another spherical entryway was found in the opposite side of the chamber; easily enough, she figured out the pulley mechanism to trigger the lens to open up, pooling the wall with golden light.
Cassidy followed the path that led to the platform overlooking the main foyer of the temple. She finds both of her parents by the ledge—her mother sitting erect yet relaxed while the father stood tall and proud, their backs turned against another lens.
As the daughter approached, her eyes widened at the sight of the largest crystal she’s ever seen—suspended from the ceiling, at the center of it all, white fog swirled in front of her as she exhaled her gasp.
“Impressive, and to think the main path had been blocked,” you began without prompt, drawing the attention of the girl to you. “But in this temple, you’ll find trials more challenging than the last. Finding one’s kyber is easier said than done. This whole place will test your mettle. Not only will the Force guide you to your crystal, but it will try you—constantly. Your training and skills are your only tools through this obstacle. We will keep a close eye on you, but everything you have to do—you do it alone. You do understand this, don’t you, Cassidy?”
“Yes,” she stiffened her demeanor and steeled her voice. “Yes, Master.”
“Good. May the Force be with you, my child.”
You channeled the Force towards the pulley mechanism, the latch tore off from the port and the metal cover rumbled to reveal a beam of the same warm, golden light. Cal aligned the giant crystal to the light, reflecting and extending the ray of light to the archway that has been frozen solid by another wall of ice. The ice transfigured into water at the mercy of the warm light and then turned to mist the instant it crashed against the snow.
That was Cassidy’s cue. Her Gathering had begun.
Marching through that archway felt like going through a portal to another dimension. Stagnant, cold air wafting through her freckled cheeks was her greeting, and the chill of the cave was her host. The spaciousness of the cavern took her breath away, freezing her lungs as she inhaled and relished in the unforgiving beauty and mystery of Ilum’s ice caves.
Surveying the vastness that stretched in front of her, no sign of her would-be crystal yet. Her eagerness has betrayed her.
“Come on, Cassy, keep moving,” she coaxed herself.
Cassidy aimed the center of the caverns with her eyes, then carved a path on her own towards the inner conclave—with her objective in mind—and disturbed the snow with the soles of her boots. There was an invisible line that she followed—she believed that it was the Force guiding her; but while she’s grateful of the guidance, the anticipation of a challenge, of a test, dangled in the back of her mind.
A rather narrow stone bridge appeared before her. It was fragile—almost too fragile, in fact, that the slightest blow of wind made the rock crack and dust off tiny debris and snow. But on the other side of the beam was much more stable ground, she didn’t think that the sight of such would be so attractive.
“Only one way to find out,”
She puts one foot in front of the other, her pads of her toes touch the first inch, she cautiously brings the other foot next without putting too much of her weight; in a feathery grace, she stretches both her arms for balance as she treaded through the balance beam.
The sound of the bridge giving way was trying to discourage her, but with every light step she takes, she brushes away the thought. Not long enough, she’s made it to the end. Cassidy exhaled sharply upon her realization, but the stone was already crumbling beneath her feet, and so she sprang away a split-second before half of it collapsed, falling into the foggy abyss.
“Did you hear that?” you snapped from your meditation—a way of tracking where Cassidy probably is at the moment.
“She’s fine. I can feel her footsteps from here,”
“I know. But this could possibly be the first challenge she’s faced so far,”
At her arrival of the empty conclave, the statues—caked with snow and whose details have been eroded over time—welcomed her with their hands clasped together. Fascinated, she takes a step closer, examining their details and textures, looking past the snow that obscured their features. This conclave was also the center of a crossroads; each path seduced her with the same end goal, but what they don’t show her is what lies between the crystal and her.
Like any other youngling with the thrill of harvesting their kyber, she wasn’t thorough with her thought process. She’s unconsciously imposed a challenge upon herself when she began going in and out of each pathway. The longer she finds herself losing her bearings, her anxiety, frustration, and impatience combined became louder. The snow and the cold air delivered these emotions to you and Cal Kestis.
“Do you sense it, [y/n]?”
“Yes, so many, you replied as-a-matter-of-factly. As tempting it might be, you restrained yourself from connecting with Cassidy through the Force.
Let her learn. Let her do this alone. You chanted to yourself, training yourself do what’s on your mind.
It felt like the air had formed ice inside Cassidy’s lungs by now, after running around in circles for a good chunk of time. Vexed, she kicked a wad of snow against the tip of her boots; her little tantrum had allowed her to blow off some steam and thought of her Plan B.
Feel, don’t think. Cassidy recalls the words of her mother.
Keeping herself grounded, she closed her eyes, and concentrated—just as you taught her. Through her mind, she entered each one and saw what they have laid—dangling the prize in front of her like bait to a fish—using her instincts, she assessed them one by one. The moment her eyes shot up, she knew exactly where to go.
Inside the tunnel, it was dim but at the corner of her eye, a mischievous twinkle played with her vision but she never doubted it. She knew what it was. Cassidy followed the gold spark until it revealed itself—hanging by the point of a stalactite like a droplet waiting to fall. A meters-wide gap separated her from the natural enclave where the crystal awaited her.
“That’s it. I know it!” she gasped.
Cassidy didn’t waste any time in heading towards the crystal that calls her. It was the only thing that filled her clear, dark irises. She proceeded to traverse the hostile terrain. Sprinting to her left side, the rock pillars became her stepping stones, bringing her ever closer to her objective. The ridge wall at the end of the path connected her to the enclave.
Due to her over-excitement, a jump done too soon nearly cost her life. Her own climbing claws had her literally hanging on for dear life. Her startled cry ricocheted between the icicles, the echo caused the icy chimes to jangle in a tone-deaf song, the wave of anxiety that sourced from the young Kestis girl alerted her parents.
“She’s found it,” Cal declared.
You could only imagine how Cassidy is holding up right now. That cry that the walls of the cave relayed a different message, but one thing is clear: she’s in the middle of a struggle right now, and she only has herself to depend on.
“Come on…” you mouthed, barely a noise parting from your lips.
Cassidy scaled the porous ice wall, digging the claws deeper through the layer of snow until she could hit something solid. Her arm hooked on the ledge, pulled herself up and squirmed farther away until she’s gotten her body on the ground. Her head angled up, the crystal glimmered so brightly like starlight that she had to blink away for a moment, and then returned her gaze to it afterwards.
Her legs dragged on, summoning herself towards the crystal. When she got close enough, the crystal nestled between her fingers and she gave it a good, quick tug. She let the yellow shard roll on the whole of her palm, her heart leapt and she felt the air in her lungs warm up. She exhaled until her breathing transitioned into a triumphant laugh.
“I got it…!” she annunciated.
The second half of the challenge was finding her way back. Seeing that some portions of the path that led her here were only a one-time use; she retraced her steps—except the stone bridge that gave way, she had to think of another way. Fortunately, she was able to improvise another bridge by Force-pushing a boulder on her left side—landing it into a clean incline for her to slide down on.
From there, things were now easy for Cassidy. She hiked the snow-caked path and found the archway from whence she came. The sight of the giant crystal in the foyer washed relief over the young one, she kept her head high in search of her parents. They appeared before her, proud smiles riddled their faces to welcome her back.
“Well done, Cassidy,” you beamed.
“You have found your kyber crystal, despite the challenges that the Force bestowed in your path. Now, it’s time for you to construct your saber.”
Her parents regrouped with her on the ground level, she followed them to the entry blocked by the mound of snow. You and Cal glanced over your shoulders, fixating your eyes on your daughter.
“Together?” Cal invited.
The child beamed, she tucked her knees and extended her arms—mimicking the posture of her parents—and mustered all the Force she could gather in her being to blast away the mound of snow that barred their exit.
The storm had subsided when they got back out in the open. The family returned to the ship, and they were greeted back by the crew members, Cassidy was especially excited to show off the tiny yellow shard that rested between her fingers. Cal beckoned her to the workbench in his old quarters and showed her the toolboxes filled with components.
“There’s so many to choose from! How will I know which one is the right one for me?”
“You meditate on it as you build, trust your feelings. The Force will help you,” he directed. “It will guide you to what is best for you.”
“Okay… I’ll try, Dad,”
“There’s a good girl,” he kissed her forehead. “I shall leave you to it now. May the Force be with you, Cassidy.”
First, she dug through the container of components. For each and every part she examined, she selected the ones that might have struck something in her, much like a magnetic force that attracted her to it. When it was apparent that she’s finished choosing the parts—from the sleeve down to the emitter—she laid them out in a neat, straight line one by one, with the kyber crystal at the center of it all.
She took a deep breath, relaxed her entire body and began reaching out to the Force for assistance. Even with her vision shrouded, the components moved to her whim—they fittingly connect with one another. Her crystal nestled underneath her switch, the sleeve and pommel latched together. When the final click came from the emitter, she opened her eyes and found the finished product lying in front of her.
Shaky hands cradled the completed hilt, her thumb trailed towards the switch—she hesitated for a second before pressing it—the yellow beam that hissed out of the emitter startled her, but she quickly smiled it off and stared at the golden glow of her very own lightsaber. Finally giving it a feel, she waved it carefully in the narrow space, it hummed to the motion of its owner and she fancied a single basic spin with it.
Her heart jumped with joy, butterflies fluttered all over her stomach, and she celebrated this victory within herself. She couldn’t keep her eyes off of the bright golden beam.
“I did it… I DID IT!!” she squealed from the room, not knowing that her entire family overheard her little celebration.

fun long ship meme!~ ( nicholas&hermina)
1) did your muse fall in love with mine quickly, or was it a long process?
SLOW BURN 500K NOT REALLY ENEMIES BUT THEY DON’T LIKE EACH OTHER BUT EVENTUALLY THEY TURN INTO FRIENDS AND HERMINA STILL DOESN’T REALLY LIKE HIM BUT ONE CATCHES FEELINGS, THEN THE OTHER CATCHES FEELINGS, AND HERMINA GOES INTO DENIAL, REJECTS NICO THE FIRST TIME BECAUSE SHE’S SCARED OF RELATIONSHIPS BUT EVENTUALLY GIVES HIM A CHANCE AND THEY GET TOGETHER ― yes, a really long process.
2) have they ever asked my muse to dance? do they even dance with my muse at all?
hermina isn’t the type to dance with anyone, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t. they dance together mostly at elijah’s parties, and even when on their own with some music in the background.
3) are they the type to steal food from my muse’s plate?
hermina doesn’t like it when other people steal food from her plate, she is even willing to stab their hands with her fork or whatever she has at hand (because she can make anything a weapon) ― so why would she steal from other nicholas’ plates? yet that doesn’t stop nicholas from stealing food from her, but as a result he has to bear the beast he’d unleash.
4) does your muse ever cook for mine? if so, is it good – or does it suck ass?
hermina always cooks. she doesn’t even let nicholas touch pans and food when in the kitchen because she knows that the only thing he can do is BAKE weed brownies. other than that, he’s a hazard in the kitchen, either to burn it down or food poison everyone. but eventually, he begins to learn a thing or two from his girlfriend and gets better at it.
5) what’s something they do when my muse is down?
oh when hermina is down it’s so painfully obvious ― because everyone is scared of her since she turns her sadness into anger as a defence mechanism. she becomes more snappy, easier to push the buttons and making her fairly dangerous to deal with as if she’s a ticking bomb. most people tend to stay away, let the anger dissipate until she’s more friendly... but not nicholas. he walks into the nuclear field and takes in every bombing until there aren’t any, then when hermina is out of the will to be the definition of anger itself, nicholas takes them somewhere quiet, where he knows it’s only the two of them and they sit down. nicholas hugging her to his chest and waiting until she opens up... which she does. and later on, they go to buy ice cream because as much as hermina hates to admit, nicholas is right when it’s a good medicine when you’re down.
6) what’s a topic they’re scared of talking about with my muse?
hermina’s past with her mother. as a result, her mother is also quite a touchy subject. she never liked talking about it even with her own family, and when nicholas first asked about it, hermina instantly shut him out with a “it’s none of your business”. but eventually, they do talk about it since it’s made the girl she turned into. but even if they talk about it, whenever it is bound to come up in a conversation, nicholas knows his girlfriend doesn’t like it yet also knows it’s something she needs.
7) are they the type who’s affectionate? if so - how do they show their affection? if not, is there a reason they’re not affectionate?
hermina never openly displays her affection, not in the way bruno and ellie do, but she does small actions here and there since she quite easily gets flustered. if anything, she most willing to hold hands, wrap an arm around nicholas’ waist when they walk side by side, even a quick peck on the cheek... now a peck on the lips is the rarest in public, nicholas only gets one if they’re alone.
8) are they the type to go on dates? if so, to where?
most people are surprised to find out they go dates quite often. and they can go anywhere, literally, though mostly to cheap places because both of them never like to spend much money and as long as it’s good and they have fun, or even eat and they like, then it’s perfect.
9) would they stay in bed with mine all day? if so, doing what?
hermina doesn’t really like staying in bed, if anything consider her proactive and is always pushing the both of them to get something done throughout the day instead of lazying around, but... there would be days she feels soft enough to comply to her boyfriend’s wishes to staying in bed. they would most likely be sleeping for longer hours, and nicholas makes it fairly easy for hermina when they sleep together but eventually she would have them watching some films on the laptop or even borrow noah’s video games so they can play together. which more often than not has hermina wanting to throw the controller on the floor because she’s quite bad at playing, but nicholas teaches her some tricks.
10) what’s a typical night between our muses look like?
nicholas doesn’t like to stay in his house very often by the hours towards the end of the day, and hermina is always willing to go out with him if wants her company and even offers for him to come inside to spend time with her family. they would be most likely to be playing board games with her siblings and it would be all fun and games until hermina catches noah or ellie cheating and she breaks hell on earth to run after them.
11) do they read together? if so, what?
hermina likes to read... but alone. she likes the silence of her surroundings and when she’s with nicholas, for most part she won’t be granted such silence. so no, they don’t read together
12) who washes the other’s hair in the shower?
hermina washes nicholas’ hair most of the time as to show her affection more often since she feels that yes, it is unfair that she open with her emotions as much as she wishes she would be or even affectionate. so, she does that much most of them time. but nicholas also does the same whenever she allows.
13) who is the driver? or do they switch places? or do none of them drive?
both of them are drivers, but mostly nicholas, but sometimes hermina also drives the both of them.
14) who likes to smack who’s ass for no reason other than laughs? or are they both well-behaved?
NICHOLAS. and he runs for it afterwards because hermina always wants to strangle him when he does so. the only time you’ll catch her doing it back if after you feed her a couple of drinks when she’s gone fully affectionate and smacking nicholas’ ass so hard he jumps and has to take a couple of breaths in because her hands stay there for a while, so he’s having a taste of his own medicine.
15) do they like movies? if so what movies would they watch with mine?
both of them like a fair amount of activities, they hang out in every place there is hang out and the movies are no exception. hermina and nicholas are all up for watching any movie there is to watch, sometimes, both of them would even make it a goal to watch all the movies there are in the cinema and even at home they would just grab any movie on a whim -- although hermina doesn’t care for what movie they watch, nicholas usually likes to watch marvel movies or even dc, yet he brings it upon himself to hear the critics that hermina has to say and therefore end up talking about all the movies afterwards.
16) do they communicate their problems or are they the type to hold everything in until someone becomes upset?
hermina is so, so, SO blunt that sometimes nicholas wishes she would hold it in sometimes. at the beginning of the relationship it might’ve been that way in regards of certain things, yet the more she began to open up, nicholas is very thankful but at the same time, he finds it scary on how forward she is about everything.
17) do you see them as the marrying type?
hermina previously would never, in a million years, think nicholas would be the marriage type. nope, she’s even had thoughts before they got into a relationship given ellie would be teasing her about it wherein they would never last long as a month without her wanting to skin him alive or throwing him off a hill or a window... yet we all know how that turned out because she is now head over heels (but she would never say that)
18) if they had kids, who would be the fun parent?
nicholas FOR SURE. hermina would be the strict parent, always making sure their homework gets done for school and the type to go “you want to go to a party? okay, but i want that project for school done a day before you go at the latest” whilst nicholas would just swoop the mess beneath the carpet, “go on, i’ll handle mum.” but hermina can be fun sometimes too, never not letting their children do what they want as long as they’re responsible about it.
19) do they get along with my muse’s parents?
nicholas’ parents think that hermina is a miracle and a blessing. how could someone so responsible and driven be their son’s girlfriend? they want her to stay forever and are always nice to her, but that doesn’t really mean she likes them because she knows what they’re like with her boyfriend. to the point she is willing to defend him when she sees them going too far in talking badly about nicholas.

Voltron season 4
So this season was... kind of a mess. I’ve talked briefly before about this show’s struggle with what I feel like the creators want it to be (character driven) and what the clients (Dreamworks & Netflix) want it to be (action driven). This season for me was DEFINITELY the weakest of the four, no contest, because of that very struggle. Spoilers below the cut.
So maybe I’m just more used to an Avatar-verse type of pacing, but to put it in animation terms this season felt like it was all keyframes and no inbetweens. The passage of time was murky as all hell and the omission of certain key developments or heck even moments that lead to developments was sorely felt.
First, Keith being a Blade of Marmora. What?? Like don’t get me wrong, this is awesome and I’ve always hoped he would be this eventually but there was no lead-up to it whatsoever. It’s just episode 6/7 then boom, “months later...” all these things are different, all this tension feels completely out of nowhere because we haven’t seen ANY of it. We’ve just been dropped right in the middle of the ACTION. Honestly a throwaway line in season 3, like maybe Kolivan sees Keith training and comments, “You are technically Galra. As such you could train with Marmora and hone your tactics.”, a brief shot of Keith considering this, PERFECT. Pair it with that Shiro/Keith scene where Shiro insists he’s proud Black chose him, even better. This is how you write character over action.
Second, Pidge’s episode was great!! But it was also completely out of nowhere. Apart from that brief scene in season 3 where she finds video footage of Matt, the motivation to look for him just hasn’t been there. I was additionally annoyed by her super quick explanation about the shopkeeper giving her intel, like how did she know the shopkeeper had that intel? What led that on the goose chase? Again something solved with a tertiary character mistaking Pidge for Matt in a throwaway scene. Heck, starting the episode with this would have been great. Lose the lizard assassin entirely, we never learn anything about him or his boss and all it does is show that Matt and Pidge are a great team-- something that can be shown easily in future episodes.
Third. NOT RESOLVING THE CLONE(??) ISSUE. I’ve read a lot of posts about this and I agree; as great as it is to feel like Shiro is truly back, season 3 set up so hard that he wasn’t really Shiro, or that he had been brainwashed, so as a result the audience just doesn’t trust him at all. He was my favorite character for a long time, and this season I didn’t like him because I didn’t know who he was. The way they did this season too didn’t feel like they were being clever for future seasons, it felt like they had dropped the whole issue entirely. I was sure that in the last episode Haggar’s secret weapon was going to be Shiro, what an amazing moment that would have been (though making the rest of the plot nonsensical). But no, there was absolutely zero payoff in this episode and it’s a lot easier to root for a character when you know who they are.
Fourth. After stealing much of the show in season 3, Lotor and his Generals.... just... kind of... sucked this season?? It was like someone had just sucked all the energy out of all of them. Lotor was an interesting, clever character in season 4 and suddenly he got rash and stupid. There are better ways to show the fall of confidence in a cocky character that really show that character and evoke sympathy from watchers. I didn’t care about any of them this season.
Fifth. On that note, this season made it hard to care about almost any of the characters. Everything felt tense and distant and oddly 2-dimensional about them (with a couple of exceptions that I’ll talk about in the POSITIVES below). I’ve read people insisting they did, it was only because Shiro and Keith got sidelined that people are salty. Well, yes and no? After the show being about him for 2 (1.5?) seasons, Keith got super awkwardly and obviously sidelined in a mission we never learned about, and this is after the untold story in between ep 7 and 8(s4 e1) of him becoming a Blade. Like we didn’t get to see him juggle Voltron and Shiro’s expectations vs what he wanted for himself, we only caught the tail end of it when it was reaching a boiling point (which btw from a narrative POV makes said boiling point feel disjointed and less effective). Shiro didn’t do much this season either besides hint at having struggled with losing Black (again, something that would have been nice to see but action sells more toys than character development) and then get Black back and be a little less tense. Pidge got a little development with her backstory, which was great, but Hunk still remains largely unchanged by this show which is frustrated. Also I’m sorry but I actually hated most of Coran ep. It didn’t move anything forward and actually felt like a step BACKWARDS in Coran’s character.
Overall yeah, this was just a “hit the plot points hard and fast” season which was so frustrating because I want this show to be able to explore more character-level stuff without being afraid of turning off its young boy toy-buyer audience (who from what I have seen are still not the actual primary audience).
But despite my generally negative feels on this season, there WERE some ~~~~~POSITIVES~~~~~
-Marmora Keith is pretty great -We got another Sheith hug! Even if the animation in this hug was particularly weak and also there was a major awkward crotch gap? It was weird. -And then EVERYONE joined in the hug and it was beautiful -Speaking of Sheith, that Pre-Kerb photobomb that I DEFINITELY didn’t catch but thanks to Tumblr I have now seen, well played -Haggar/Honerva in the mirror was GREAT and this is the kind of character moment shit I want more of Dreamworks -Narti’s death genuinely shocked me, and the other Generals choosing her over Lotor was G R E A T -THE KALTENEKER SCENE OH MY GOD. OH MY GOD. Literally my favorite part of the whole season. SO GOOD. -Coran being a big Shiro stan (but we didn’t get to SEE Shiro in that tight shirt so minus 10 points for Dreamworksdor) -Shiro hugging Matt -Pidge showing Matt around, particularly loved her room -Pidge, Matt, and Hunk hanging out and being smarty-pants together -ALLURA!!! This season was so great. From playing Keith to using her powers to lecturing Keith, it was all beautiful. And on that note... -LANCE AND ALLURA. I’ve been super super low-key shipping Allurance since the lion switch in season 3, but their stuff this season was WONDERFUL. He stops being the gaga-for-girls Lance with her and helps her out and picks her up when she doesn’t believe in herself. When she is able to work her magic and Lance says, “I didn’t do anything, it was all you” I was like *_* this is SO. NICE. -Female Galra generals! TWO OF THEM! It was like a beautiful surprise gift.
And that’s all I can think of to be honest. This season was just such a mess, even when paired with season 3. Season 3 had so much more emotional power on all fronts, which is def what I like most about this show.

Republican leaders avoid town halls after House health care vote
Source: USA Today
The migration away from public forums has been going on for months, despite complaints from constituents and local media. There have been roughly 30 recent newspaper editorials slamming lawmakers for avoiding town halls and calling on members to face their voters, not only in bluer portions of the country like New York but also in critical battlegrounds like Pennsylvania’s 6th and 7th districts[...]
Trump on track to surpass 8 years of Obama’s travel expenses in just 1 year
Source: CNN
Trump's frequent weekend travel makes it all but certain the 45th President will surpass Obama's spending in his first term, likely within months.
The spending comes as Trump asks the federal government to slash non-defense spending by $54 billion, including deep cuts to the State Department, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Environmental Protection Agency and the wholesale elimination of other federal programs. The proposed cuts, which are unlikely to be adopted in total, will correspond with $54 billion in increases to defense spending.
As CNN reports, Trump’s expenses for his Mar-a-Lago trips has already surpassed a fifth of what Obama spent on travel in his entire 8 years as presidency. Obama’s expenses included both personal and work trips.
Sessions orders an end to forensic science commission and suspension of policy review
Source: The Washington Post
The commission was a partnership started in 2013 between the Justice Department and independent scientists. It’s purpose was to evaluate and elevate the standards of forensic science in the U.S., and Session’s decision has led to criticism from members:
Several commission members who have worked in criminal courts and supported the input of independent scientists said the department risks retreating into insularity and repeating past mistakes, saying that no matter how well-intentioned, prosecutors lack scientists’ objectivity and training.
U.S. District Judge Jed S. Rakoff of New York, the only federal judge on the commission, said, “It is unrealistic to expect that truly objective, scientifically sound standards for the use of forensic science . . . can be arrived at by entities centered solely within the Department of Justice.”
In suspending reviews of past testimony and the development of standards for future reporting, “the department has literally decided to suspend the search for the truth,” said Peter S. Neufeld, co-founder of the Innocence Project, which has reported that nearly half of 349 DNA exonerations involved misapplications of forensic science. “As a consequence innocent people will languish in prison or, God forbid, could be executed,” he said.

Two members of extreme anti-immigration groups hired in high-level advisory roles
Source: CNN
Jon Feere, a former legal policy analyst for the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), has been hired as an adviser to the acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Meanwhile, Julie Kirchner, former executive director of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), has been hired as an adviser to the acting Commissioner of Customs and Border Protection. Both CIS and FAIR are both anti-immigration groups representing the extreme far-right, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center:
"CIS has published articles that labeled immigrants 'third world gold diggers' and that blamed Central American asylum seekers for the 'burgeoning street gang problem' in the US, while Dan Stein has said that many immigrants that come to the US hate America and everything the country stands for," said Heidi Beirich, director of Southern Poverty Law Center's Intelligence Project, which oversees the center's yearly count of anti-immigrant groups. "We take these designations very seriously, and CIS and FAIR are far-right fringe groups that regularly publish racist, xenophobic material and spread misinformation about immigrants and immigration."
Despite claims from anti-immigration groups that they are willing to enter discussions with immigration rights groups and the government, many immigration rights organizations fear what these appointments could mean:
"This isn't exactly the same situation as having Democrats and Republicans, conservatives and liberals, both in the same room," countered one pro-immigrant advocate. "The fundamental difference is that their agenda is driven by a nativist white supremacist approach to policy. So, to sit together in a room, not only does it have a chilling effect, but I think that many of the advocacy organizations, including ours, fear that we would be normalizing the nativist agenda as it gets into the halls of our government."
Spicer claims that Hitler didn’t use chemical weapons while discussing Assad’s use of such weapons in Syria
Source: The Hill
“We did not use chemical weapons in World War II. You had someone as despicable as Hitler who did not even sink to using chemical weapons,” Spicer said. “If you are Russia, ask yourself, is this a country and regime that you want to align yourself with?”
Given an opportunity to clarify his comments, Spicer misspoke again by trying once more to draw a distinction between Assad and Hitler, whom the press secretary said did not gas “his own people.”
“When it comes to sarin gas, [Hitler] was not using the gas on his own people the same way that Assad is doing,” Spicer said to audible groans from some reporters. He also referred to concentration camps as “Holocaust centers.”
Spicer’s remarks, made during Passover, have drawn criticism from numerous groups, including the Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect:
“On Passover no less, Sean Spicer has engaged in Holocaust denial, the most offensive form of fake news imaginable, by denying Hitler gassed millions of Jews to death,” said Steven Goldstein, executive director of the Anne Frank Center.

Trump signs law allowing states to choose to defund Planned Parenthood
Source: NPR
This law was one of a number that was passed using the Congressional Review Act, which allows the house to overturn legislation made during the last 6 months of the previous President’s administration. The legislation overrules the regulation put in place under Obama that protects federal funds from being withheld by individual states:
Now that the rule has been repealed, states can effectively block Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers from funds associated with the Title X Family Planning program, which was established in 1970 to subsidize organizations that offer services related to contraception, pregnancy care, fertility and cancer screenings primarily for low-income people.
Breaking: US drops America’s largest non-nuclear bomb in Afghanistan
Source: CNN
The bomb drop, which targeted an ISIS cave and tunnel complex, has never before happened in combat:
The US military dropped America's most powerful non-nuclear bomb on ISIS targets in Afghanistan Thursday, the first time this type of weapon has been used in battle, according to US officials.
A GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast Bomb (MOAB), nicknamed the "mother of all bombs," was dropped at 7:32 p.m. local time, according to four US military officials with direct knowledge of the mission. A MOAB is a 30-foot-long, 21,600-pound, GPS-guided munition.President Donald Trump called it "another successful job" later Thursday.
The bomb was dropped by an MC-130 aircraft, stationed in Afghanistan and operated by Air Force Special Operations Command, Pentagon spokesman Adam Stump told CNN.

Concrete evidence of collusion between Trump and Russia has reportedly been handed to the investigation
Source: The Independent
The official investigation into relations between Donald Trump and Russia now has "specific, concrete and corroborative evidence of collusion", it has been reported.
New evidence proves discussions took place “between people in the Trump campaign and agents of [Russian] influence relating to the use of hacked material,” a source allegedly told the Guardian.
The developments come as it has emerged that Britain’s spy agencies were among the first to alert their American counterparts to contact between members of Mr Trump’s campaign team and Russian intelligence operatives.
The Secret Service has spent $35,000 on gold cart rentals since inauguration
Source: The Hill
The Secret Service has spent over $35k on gold cart rentals at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort since January 20. This information, first reported by CBS news, came as Trump settles in at the resort over the holiday weekend:
CBS' new report comes as Trump spends the full three-day Easter weekend at Mar-a-Lago. No senior staff took the Air Force One flight to Florida, according to a report.

Trump says that he can’t be sued for inciting violence at rallies because he won election
Source: The Washington Post
Trump’s team rebuffed a suit filed by protesters claiming that Trump incited a riot against them in May of last year at a rally in Louisville. According to his team, Trump is immune to lawsuit since he is the President. The Washington Post reports more:
Trump's team challenged the accusations — negligence and incitement to riot — on many other grounds, too.
But a federal judge already rejected their attempt to have the lawsuit thrown out earlier this month.
And in another new filing in the same case, a Trump supporter accused of assaulting protesters agreed with the plaintiffs that Trump wanted a riot — while denying he actually harmed anyone.
Alvin Bamberger, who was seen in a video pushing a protester through a jeering crowd at the Louisville convention center, “would not have acted as he did without Trump and/or the Trump Campaign’s specific urging and inspiration,” Bamberger's lawyer wrote.
Bamberger denied “shoving … and striking” anyone, as the lawsuit accuses him of. But he admitted to touching plaintiff Kashiya Nwanguma, a 21-year-old college student who had gone to the rally with a protest sign.
And he accepted as true her claims that Trump's speech “was calculated to incite violence” against the protesters.
Trump continues hiring lobbyists without input from the Office on Government Ethics
Source: Propublica
Despite claims during his campaign that he would be willing to ban lobbyists from his administration, Trump has hired lobbyists from over 300 different corporations:
One striking case involves Michael Catanzaro, an appointee on the National Economic Council whose portfolio includes energy and environmental issues. Catanzaro was formerly a lobbyist for oil and coal companies that strenuously opposed the Obama administration’s clean power regulation. Three industry sources told the Times that Catanzaro is now working on that same issue in the Trump administration.
Even under Trump’s weakened ethics rules, former lobbyists like Catanzaro are not supposed to work on issues that they formerly had lobbied on.
Still, under Trump’s executive order, he can issue waivers at any time to staffers, Catanzaro included, for any reason, and never disclose it.
Even the federal government’s top ethics official, Walter Shaub, who runs the Office of Government Ethics, is being kept in the dark.
“There’s no transparency, and I have no idea how many waivers have been issued,” Shaub told the Times.
