How Platonic/Familial Yandere Overwatch characters react to you wanting/having a significant other

Howdy! In the wake of my switch not having enough storage to play Overwatch anymore, I’ve finally had the inspiration to write about it!

I definitely intend to write this scenario with other characters, these are just all the ones that I had immediate ideas for, send in an ask if you have a specific character you want in the next one!

As always, (but hopefully not for too much longer 🤞) I have no real academic or professional teaching in writing, so all criticism is welcomed

(Also just a side note for the familial bits - it can be taken as both biological or adopted)

Nah, not happening.

It's not that he wants to restrict your relationships with people outside of Overwatch, buuut...

If you ever want to bring someone home, he'll greet them warmly with a subtle demonstration of his military experience.

Like straight-up cleaning/putting together his pulse rifle or sharpening his combat knife or, if he can rope another member of the family into it, literally discussing violent battle plans as your potential partner walks in.

If someone is either oblivious enough to not notice or stupid enough to think they can survive your dad's threats, he's prepared to get his hands dirty.

He can and will hunt people down and very directly tell them to fuck off if they want to keep their legs if he doesn't consider them worthy of you.

(Hint: He doesn't think anyone's worthy of you)

The truth is, at the start, he might be a little more receptive to the idea but it won’t last

Even if your partner is the most perfect shining star of a lover ever to exist, he will find or concoct some misdeed and convince himself that they must be eliminated

In short; enjoy it while you can, it’s not gonna last as long as he has something to say about it

“Nah. Tell them you’re breaking up or I will. I’m not letting this scum around my child.”

He’s surprisingly okay with it!

All he ever wants is for his kiddo to be happy, and if this person makes you happy, then they’re good in his book!

That’s not to say that he won’t be… cautious, though

Can you blame him? This world is full of fucked up things and all he wants is to protect you from those

The idea of his baby being abused or manipulated hurts him deeply, so like a good father he… checks in on you

You went to a cafe? He’s sitting in the corner, wearing a hoodie to hide his face as he glances at you every few seconds

You’re going out to a club or concert? Aw, damn, one of the acts for the night had to call out sick, good thing THE Lucio was in town and willing to do a set for them

You’re going on a peaceful walk through nature? He just happened to be doing a little wildlife watching himself!

He won’t interfere with your dates, if he can help it you won’t even know about his presence most of the time, but he’s always got an eye and ear out for the safety of his kid

“Ooh, h-hey there kid! You look like you’re having fun, yeah? Yeah…” strong side eye to your date all the while

You’ll likely be able to have a pretty fulfilling relationship, even with your helicopter dad, since unless your partner is outright abusive he can keep his mouth shut

As a brother figure, Lucio’s protectiveness becomes almost possessive

He always wants to monopolise your time and attention, although it’s unintentional

He just cares about you soo soo much!!

To YanBro!Lucio, time spent with you is as valuable as omnium, and even more precious

He gets irritated at the thought of anyone else taking away your time with him, but he won’t show it

He really, really wants you to think he’s cool and chill despite his obsession, so he keeps the worst of his dark feelings under lock and key

But the same doesn’t go for those that would take you away

He’s quite a traditional yandere, in this sense

He’s not afraid to beat up or even kill whatever punk thought they could date HIS sibling

And he’s not shy about it, either!

He won’t tell you about his actions upfront, and if you come to him for comfort when another partner leaves you, he won’t mention his involvement

But if you ever ask him if he had a hand in it, he won’t deny it at all

“Yeah, I took out trash, what’s wrong with that? They didn’t deserve you, sunshine, you oughta know your worth by now!”

She could not be more upset if she tried

Why do you have to go out and date people when you can stay in and play games with her??

She genuinely does not understand why you’re choosing others over her, and she can get a little petulant over it

And by a little I mean ‘actually throwing tantrums/blocking the door so you can’t leave to go on your date/crocodile tears about how abandoned she feels’

To be fair, this is how she always is when you try to leave the base without her, but she goes the whole nine yards when there’s another person involved

She just wants to be the number one most important person in your life at all times! Is that so much to ask?

And it doesn’t have to be positive attention from you to keep her happy, she’ll tear into your looks, insecurities and deepest secrets that you’ve confided to keep you where you belong; by her side in the family

And don’t think you can just slip past her, she’s definitely buffer than the game makes her out to be and will be willing to use force if push comes to shove

While the others are focused on the significant other, YanSis!D.VA is all about you, you, you.

If this is a group yandere situation (which tbh I always picture it to be) it can almost be a nice balance

The others go off and deal with intruding party, while she stays home and makes sure you’ll regret ever even thinking of dating someone

“Listen, we can do this the easy way, or the hard way. The fact is, your little date’s already dead. So go back to your room and get out of those tacky clothes, and I’ll bring us some energy drinks, mmkay?”

Somehow even less okay with it than her sisterly counterpart, if you can imagine

Buuut… she’s a little nicer to you in the long run of it all

Her mindset is more like, I did all this work to get to the number one spot in their life, and some nobody is trying to overtake me?

It brings out more of her competitive side, and since she can’t control you as much as YanSis!D.VA can, she starts taking every comment and action from your partner as a challenge

“Ohh, you went to the arcade together? Did you see who had all the top scores?”

“Oh you took them to a fast food restaurant? Huh, I would have taken them to their actual favourite, and I definitely wouldn’t have made them pay.”

“You bought them a plushie? Aww! You know, they have an entire bed’s worth of plushies that I’ve gotten them over the years.”

It goes on like this for weeks, her trying to convince they’re not good enough, peppered with raising herself up and reminding everyone included that she’s your bestie

No one else gets to have a higher place in your heart

Eventually, she’ll get tired of fighting with you over some extra and she’ll remove them from your life by force

While she’s not above outright killing them, there’s other routes she can go down first, like accusing them of a crime to get them locked up

She’s a valuable military asset and an immensely popular public figure; who are the people gonna believe?

Unlike YanBro!Lucio, she doesn’t accept you crying over the loss, and she’ll even twist things to make you feel like it was your fault

“You know, I was dropping hints for aaages that you shouldn’t have been with them, maybe if you paid more attention to me you could’ve walked away earlier and none of this would’ve happened!”

YanMama!Ashe

Of course you can go on dates, honey! But only as long as BOB can keep an eye on you!

You know that bit in The Lion King where Simba’s mother makes Zazu go with them all the time? Yeah that’s her but with you and BOB

Except it’s much, much harder to escape BOB

Ashe honestly thinks she’s being pretty open and nice about it, letting you date people at all was something she had to take a LOT of time to come to terms with

Your silent chaperone tries his best to not make you uncomfortable, but he can’t exactly hide his massive stature, so whoever you date is just gonna have to be chill with him forever

And by forever, I mean FOREVER - you could be a whole married adult and YanMama!Ashe would still have him checking on you every time you left the house together

Internally, she’ll always be quite conflicted about letting you go around with random partners

She’ll do a lot of wistfully gazing out the window, dramatically sighing as she awaits her child’s return

I honestly picture her a bit hopeless outside of violence and business dealings, and she just doesn’t know how to express the deep sorrow in her heart without making you hate her

She get almost weirdly happy if your partner does something cruel to you, it gives her an excuse to take out some pent-up anger on a nobody

That’s not to say she won’t comfort you; there’ll be lots snuggles and forehead kisses as she reminds you that she’ll always be here for you

She might be crying more than you over the idea of you being hurt

“Don’t worry about a thing, darling! Me and BOB are gonna have this all sorted out, you just sit pretty for us, alright?”

He's really good at dealing with colds and such so he tries his hardest to keep you comfortable

He makes you warm foods, keeps a drink by your bed to keep you hydrated and almost never leaves your side

Luckily, he has his visor, which keeps him from getting sick so he can stay with you whenever you want company

D.va (Platonic)

She's got a surprisingly strong immune system, so she can stay around you without also getting sick

When you're sick, she tries her best to make you food or just gets something from your favorite restaurant to eat

She and her squad keep you company when you're sick, and plus, you become friends with her friends

Lucio

He hates being sick so he tries his best to make sure you're comfortable and happy

He's constantly trying to decided whether he should go hang out with you or stay out of your room so he doesn't also get sick

All you have to do though is text him and ask for something something and he'll reply with a bunch of hearts and go get whatever you needed

But when you're all better, expect lots of hugs and cuddles because he's been deprived of your touch for almost a week and he's got so much to tell you

• Kiriko and Hana began their relationship not long after Kiriko had joined Overwatch. The two immediately hit things off, and after a few secret dates here and there, Kiriko eventually got the guts to ask her favorite pilot to be her girlfriend. Hana had never been so giddy.

• Of course, both women aren’t exactly dead-set on letting everyone know of their relationship right away. Especially with Kiriko already focused on getting to know members of the team. It’d be pretty odd to introduce yourself as the girl dating someone they’d been working with for years, so keeping it a secret is a given. At least for a little while.

• The two enjoy spending their free time together playing video games or cooking (Kiriko being the cook and Hana being the taste-tester). So it isn’t unusual to see the two disappear after missions (assuming they’re stable), training sessions, or meetings.

• Genji, Angela, Fareeha, Cassidy and Lena are the only ones 100% convinced about their uncomfirmed relationship. There are others who are suspicious, though, like Lucio.

• Kiriko loves being a tease with Hana, and she often does so in front of the others with subtle touches. Brushing the back of her hand against Hana’s, getting up behind her closely when she wants to observe what Hana’s doing- things like that. Seeing Hana’s face go crimson never gets old.

• Hana, on the other hand, enjoys teasing verbally. Choice words to get Kiriko flustered, like little compliments that to others seem platonic, but to Kiriko are far from it.

“I’ll never understand how you throw them daggers like that, fox girl.” Cassidy took a sip of his bourbon, clearing his throat with a gruff cough as he gestured towards Kiriko with a nod. Glancing at the others across the room, being Reinhardt, Angela, Lena and Jack, the cowboy let out a low chuckle. “She’s got skill, that’s for sure.”

“You bet.” Jack replied with a smirk, nodding towards Kiriko like a proud father. The newcomer, upon realizing all eyes were on her, sheepishly rubbed the back of her neck with a hand, murmuring a small “thanks” and smiling warmly.

Hana however, being right beside to her, noticed this, and decided to add in a word of her own.

“Couldn’t have said it any better,” she quipped, expression bright as she leaned over the island counter, “I’ve been telling her how good she is with her hands.”

Watching Kiriko’s face turn that red that fast made Hana Song’s entire year. This moment was also Cassidy’s final straw in his raising suspicions.

• The two never take major risks. Subtle, chaste kisses here and there, sure, and the occasional words of affection will get thrown around in the form of subtle whispers. The two truly don’t want to get found out any time soon, and while it is fun to fool around, they know to be careful.

• Well…except for that one time.

“Shh…Hana, I know. I’m right here.”

Hana, sounds muffled by Kiriko’s palm over her mouth, was currently pinned to a bathroom door, writhing against it as pleasure overwhelmed her. Her legs were pried open by a single hand between them; a flustered mess, the pilot brought a hand up to hold on tightly to her girlfriend’s jacket, whining words like “yes,” “faster,” “fuck.” Eyes half-lidded, weak sounds of need fell past her covered lips, her breathing erratic.

Kiriko, eyes dilated at the sight of her lover like this, kept her gaze focused on Hana’s sopping wet heat, her fingers working swiftly to bring the brunette to her peak. “You’re doing so good, Hana…” She murmured coolly, smirking a little as she finally looked up to make eye contact.

The sheer need in Hana’s eyes made the taller woman feel truly primal, god, she loved seeing her girlfriend submit. Especially in these circumstances. Kiriko prided herself on being a responsible young woman, but she’d be damned if she wasn’t going to put her girlfriend in her place when her tone practically asked for it. Regardless of their whereabouts.

Currently, the couple was at a mission after-party. And the entirety of Overwatch was outside of this very bathroom. The only bathroom.

Hana and Kiriko were no strangers to quickies. But this was definitely the closest they’d ever gotten to being caught. Hana had been teasing Kiriko all night, and the former vigilante had simply had enough. Hana was bold for assuming Kiriko wouldn’t bend her over the bathroom counter and finger her while making her watch.

But door sex would suffice, too.

Gasping for air, Hana managed to pull her mouth free from Kiriko’s hand for just a moment, rambling eagerly, “God, Kiri…y-you’re so-”

“-So what, bunny?” Kiriko breathed sensually, bringing her lips to one of Hana’s ears as her fingers continued moving rhythmically against her pulsating walls. “Use your words.”

Hana let out a high-pitched moan into her hand, her hips bucking as Kiriko began curling her fingers into her g-spot.

“You’re…so m-mean…” she was barely audible through the suppression of Kiriko’s palm on top of the whimper lacing her words. Kiriko’s other hand was braced against the door Hana was up against, rendering the pilot completely trapped. It was addicting, feeling preyed on by the shrine maiden. And Hana, though she liked to be stubborn about it, was enthused to submit to her.

Smirking, Kiriko pressed a kiss to the side of Hana’s face, purring teasingly, “You know you like it.” Then, another kiss, this time to her lips. Pulling away, she sped up her ministrations, and Hana’s body felt light and fuzzy as her peak crept up on her.

“Go ahead. Cum for me.”

And Hana absolutely obeyed. Nobody questioned how exhausted she looked after leaving the restroom.

he doesn't have any particuliar taste he just doesn't like very loud music

he likes japanese bossa nova and listens to it when he parctices/medidates

he probably asked lucio why he has to pay for spotify premium and asked him to get him a cracked version of it because he refuses to pay for it (he actually has a lot of money but has a love/hate relationship with americans *staring at cassidy intenifies* but deep down it's really because he doesn't know how to properly use the app without lucio's help but he doesn't want to admit it because it makes him feel old)

I JUST KNOW MY BABYGIRL SECRETELY LIKES KPOP GIRL GROUPS LIKE TWICE AND NEWJEANS (kiriko secretely added newjeans music in his playlist)

listens to shiloh dysnasty, lofigirl lives when he needs to focus on signing his family's papers, he likes tyler the creator but only flowerboy and call me if you get lost because his others albums would be too "violent" for him (don't forget he's an old man 😔 /hj)

HE OBVIOUSLY LIKES CLASSICAL MUSIC like some mozart or chopin or even beethoven

he either has too many playlists or like only his liked songs one (but he doesn't now how to use spotify so he always asks you or lucio on how to do it)

he definitely likes lamp and even went to some of their concerts

oh and he plays shamisen too, his parents gave him and his brothers lessons since it's something very dear to them as music is a very big part of the shimadas' culture

(Y/N) had to continuously keep pinching the flesh upon his arms to make sure that this indeed was now his reality, and not just some bizarre lucid dream that he was currently experiencing. It had begun with him assisting the legendary Reinhardt and some of his companions in destroying the command ship that was wreaking havoc to the city of Gothenburg. Now here he was as one of the handful of recruits for the secondary formation of Overwatch, being given a tour of the newest headquarters located within Malevento, Italy. It was an amazing experience so far! Getting to meet various former heroes such as Cassidy and Sojourn, and then newer members such as Lucio and D.Va. (Y/N) couldn’t wait to begin the trainings and then be able to go on missions, to begin coming up with concepts of his own costume, to be able to-

‘Uh, (Y/N)?’

Oh, yeah.

Turns out that it wasn’t all how (Y/N) had believed how things were going to go.

‘You doing alright down there, luv? You’ve been quiet for these last couple of minutes?’

While it was quite obvious to him that he wasn’t going to be instantly thrown in missions that were dangerous or would end up in extreme circumstances, this was definitely not what (Y/N) was thinking when he was recruited for Overwatch. Instead of being sent on basic covert missions to help address future locations that the Null Sector would attempt to strike at next, it turns out that the former members of the Overwatch crew had decided that the perfect position for (Y/N) would be to venture out and go recruit other members of interest to increase their numbers.

Yeah, you heard that right.

(Y/N) (L/N), newest recruiter for Overwatch.

‘Uh, yeah.. Doin’ fine, Le- I, uh, mean.. Tracer.. Yeah, just finally getting around to the last person that’s on the list for this area that some of the others are interested in recruiting.

“Let’s see, where we’re at on this damn thing..”

Mako Rutledge.. “Roadhog”..

Jamison Fawkes.. “Junkrat”..

Ah, there we are! Odessa “Dez” Stone.. Junker Queen..

‘Wait, Tracer? This.. wasteland.. Actually has a Queen? Like they have literal lines of royalty out in this dump?’ (Y/N) questions the woman over his comms, eyebrows furrowing slightly as he proceeds to reread the name and the context following a couple of times just to make sure that what he was seeing was actually correct. There’s absolutely no way that a place as.. chaotic and savage.. would have any sort of royalty, let alone the capacity to really understand how royalty and their systems work. At least there couldn’t be, right?

‘It’s not what you would think when thinking of the term ‘royalty’, such how royalty is within other places. For example, the United Kingdom, where I’m from. Within Junkertown, the term royalty follows more- Well, it’s a bit complicated to explain. Let’s get this process done quickly so we can get you out of there before the locals start getting riled up with an outsider being in their presence.’

Tracer was definitely right, and (Y/N) couldn’t agree with her anymore than he already did. The faster that he could get this recruitment process done and over with, that’s if this “Junker Queen” agreed to be recruited, then the better that this whole situation would be. He could only hope that it wouldn’t be as hectic as dealing with that “Roadhog” and “Junkrat” duo.

It’s not like there was a possibility that this trip could become even weirder than it already has been.

“Hold on,” Apparently there was a bodyguard that (Y/N) had to address his intentions to, and apparently be deemed worthy by the bodyguard, before being able to approach the Junker Queen. “So, you’re telling me that you’re the Queen’s bodyguard?”

“Affirmative.”

It’s then that there’s a somewhat awkward moment of silence, moreso from (Y/N)’s side than the hamster that has informed the man to address him as “Hammond”, as they stand there and just stare at each other. (Y/N) then proceeds to hold out the list of individuals for recruitment. “Uh, so I’m (Y/N), one of the newer members and now the recruiter for Overwatch, or at least this reformation of it, and your.. Queen.. happens to be upon the list.. So, would I be able to meet her? To discuss the possibility that she might be interested in joining?” He could only think about what Tracer’s thoughts might possibly be as she was also watching through the cameras that were located within the hall that Winston had managed to infiltrate, and ultimately (Y/N) wouldn’t be surprised if she was to tell him that his next task was to attempt to recruit the damn hamster as well.

“Right this way.”

There’s something similar to an eerie silence that begins to overcome the environment as (Y/N) proceeds to follow Hammond down the hallway to where apparently the Queen’s throne was located, or at least what (Y/N) would hope to be the Queen’s throne and not some crazy death trap. Just a quick turn around to look behind him to ease the slight paranoia that had begun to work its way within the depths of his mind, but (Y/N) turns back around to find out that he’s apparently lost sight of Hammond. ..Somehow.. But at this point it doesn’t necessarily matter. Back to the original purpose of being here, recruiting the Queen.

“Uh, hello?” He calls out into the open, the sound of his voice echoing off the metal walls, but not being met with any response whatsoever. Just the creaking and groaning of machinery within the background. “Hello?” (Y/N) calls out once again for safe measure, for maybe he wasn’t heard in the first place- “What the hell?!” A slight shriek leaves past his lips as there’s a sudden blur that whips past his face, the breeze from the encounter causing his hair to become disheveled. He doesn’t necessarily get even a moment to process and figure out what the thing was that had flown past him and imbedded itself into the wall behind him - object, person, whatever it happens to be, before he’s having to quickly throw himself back to avoid having his face sliced off from the ax that has seemed to materialize out of thin air and just inches away from his face. “H-Holy shit!”

‘(Y/N)! Look out!-’

Tracer’s voice, a panicked tone, could be heard through the comms not even a moment later, but it was already too late at that point to give a proper reaction, as (Y/N) could only focus on the brief pain that surged from what seemed to be the thick heel of a boot colliding with his chest, and then pain surging through him once again as his back collides harshly with the floor beneath him.

Was this the end for him?

How his life long dreams were now going to be short lived memories?

Yet, what he wasn’t expecting was to feel an immense pressure upon his face and practically be tasting a mixture of dirt and rubber. Moving his face proves to be fruitless as the pressure on his face increases.

‘(Y/N)?! (Y/N)?! Are you okay?!’

“Oh, doing fine!-”

There wasn’t any doubt that she was definitely something of a taller woman. While she didn’t necessarily need those couple inches of wedge upon her boots to give her that extra height, it was definitely a mixture of not only intimidating but also attractive as well. (Y/N) couldn’t necessarily care about height, but that was more his personal preference. The various variants of blue within her hair, despite that he could see the brown color peeking out within her roots, yet it’s quite an eye-catcher as while typically the colors would contrast within the red of her eyes, yet, it just made her all that more beautiful. Don’t get (Y/N) started on the articles of her appearance either. From the metal studs that were embedded into the fabric of her clothing to the faded makeup to her eyes. It just enhanced it all. Tied everything together like it was a bow on a present.

God, she was just absolutely beautiful.

‘Are you sure that “doing fine” is the correct choice of words? You’re literally being crushed by the Junker Queen, (Y/N)!’

There’s some soft, muffled chuckle that makes way past (Y/N)’s lips at Tracer’s words, watching as Odessa proceeds to lean down to get a better glance of the man beneath her foot while a slight sneer begins to make its way to her own lips. “Well, Tracer, she’s kinda fine, if you happen to get what I mean~” He goes to lift his arm which briefly catches Odessa’s attention, slightly waving the clipboard that he somehow, miraculously still held onto.

“So, gorgeous~ How about we get started on discussing you joining Overwatch?~”
