This is just my interpretation so here goes:
"Punk" as a suffix is inherently about anti-establishment. Therefore:
Cyberpunk -> Mega-corporations control the media and hoard resources and anyone not consuming mindlessly is a threat
Desertpunk -> Water is hoarded by either petty warlords or mega-corporations and the hero is often someone fighting or existing outside the system. Mad Max comes to mind but Tank Girl also. Basically, any setting where drinking water is treated as crude oil and all the conflict that entails.
Oceanpunk -> Not quite the opposite of Desertpunk. Instead of arid deserts, it's vast swathes of ocean with little islands (floating or stationary). An authoritarian regime controls or wishes to control the waters and its inhabitants. Land can be a resource or ancient technology from the "old world" can drive the conflict. One Piece, Waterworld, Flapjack, any setting where boats are used frequently as transportation and the setting. I wanna see more submarines in this genre.
Scavengepunk -> The oil's been used up and global war has rendered progress & production stagnant. People scavenge junk to meet their needs but this junk is very much a finite resource. The regime either hoards what they scavenge or forbid the scavenging of certain goods, fearing it could upset the power balance. People who can actually manufacture or invent new tech might be persecuted cuz being able to build your own stuff instead of scavenging just disrupts the status quo. These types of stories usually have 1 of 2 MacGuffins: the main hero restarts some dangerous old-world tech or invents something powerful. Mortal Engines is technically scavengepunk and steampunk combined.

Do you guys think Carl knew about Lori and Shane’s affair? Cause I can’t see Rick ever telling him, but Lori and Shane weren’t exactly discreet. Plus, Carl was there when Rick killed Shane, so there’s a good chance he heard Shane’s rant about wanting to replace Rick while he was walking over.

I have so many ideas lately what is going on?! Btw, thanks for all the love under the melodies <3 (sorry if sound is bad)
Their relationship was far more than complicated. They loved each other, at least Rick loved her. But they didn't work as a team in any way. She was often very angry with him, picking fights. Even when he remained calm and diplomatic, that wasn't good enough for her either. He wasn't the man she wanted and she wasn't the woman he deserved. Nevertheless, her death broke his heart into a million pieces.

Mad Studies Praxis
1. Mad Studies praxis builds from its historicity. Perhaps the most important piece that often gets overlooked in patient/peer projects is attention to the history that informs the foundations on which these projects stand. Understanding the wide-ranging history of the Mad community and its fight for liberation is core to the Mad Studies genealogy. In turn, Mad Studies praxis centers Mad peoples’ voices and knowledge(s), including historical knowledge and the socio-political contexts in which this knowledge emerged. This does not mean that those who don’t identify as Mad can’t do Mad Studies, but rather that the canon of knowledge that defines the field has been (and should continue to be) generated by Mad people, and should build upon this genealogy. 2. Mad Studies praxis differentiates academic work from intellectual work, and values intellectual work that happens in community and other non-academic spaces. The reading, researching and other routines of an academic (Mad scholar) are not preeminent forms of knowledge and are not in and of themselves the same as intellectual work. What we mean by intellectual work includes the work that is about the collective labour of naming, theorizing (generation of ideas and making connections between ideas), teaching and continuous reflexivity about one’s position in relation to sanism and other forms of structural injustice. Through this lens, intellectual work happens in academia, or in community activism, art, care and in cultural work (among other spaces). 3. Mad Studies praxis is emancipatory. That is, it takes up as its explicit aim the dismantling of systems of structural power, and while it may centersanism, it is attentive to its inherent intersections with racism, sexism, classism, heterosexism, transphobia and ableism. Thus, our Mad Studies praxis seeks to make transparent with some precision how dominant medical, legal and academic paradigms lead and re-perpetuate injustice, carcerality, inequity and marginalization. It addresses and unpacks dominant claims, evidence and the existing hegemonic order. It also analyses the ways in which service users/survivors have at times been made complicit in psychiatric logics, and in so doing, have erased or compromised history and human rights. 4. Mad Studies praxis is critical. It doesn’t hesitate and is unequivocal about its right to exist. While various systems or institutions may claim sincerity in respect to inclusion and engagement, Mad Studies theory is habitually resisted and alienated from these same projects claiming to be about inclusion or engagement. When professionals, particularly in clinical contexts, speak about “teamwork” or “interdisciplinary” work, they often mean any discipline except Mad Studies. As such, Mad Studies praxis works to make these systems of power visible and works on steps that specifically lead to a revolution and change in the conditions that generate suppression, exploitation and exclusion of Mad Studies theory itself. Our goal is not to be favourable to, or convince prejudicial systems, psychiatrists, or paraprofessionals to accept all our terms but to make the conditions of aversion, erasure, hatred and violence less viable.

Book Notes: Hello Beautiful
Tumblr media
Ann Napolitano’s new novel, Hello Beautiful, deserves all of the praise I am sure it’s going to get. It is gorgeously written, with flawed characters so movingly portrayed you can feel the tenderness with which Napolitano handles each one. Even the ones you can’t quite sympathize with are never flat. Families come together, break apart, and come together again. Its March publication date, the month of March Madness, is also fitting, given that a central character, William, finds solace early on in basketball.
William Walters is a lonely child. Raised by two parents unable to move past their grief at the unexpected death of William’s older sister, Caroline, William gravitates towards basketball, first alone at the local park, then pick-up games, finally advancing to the varsity high school team. He gets a scholarship for college, moves from Boston to Chicago, and meets Julia Padavano, the person who will change his life. Julia brings him home to her poetry-quoting father, religious and pragmatic mother, and three younger sisters, Sylvie, Emeline and Cecelia, all of whom enfold him into their lives and hearts. His adoption into the Padavano clan is cemented by Julia’s determination that in William she has found the man she is going to marry.
Spanning from the 1960’s to 2008, the story shifts between William, Julia, and Sylvie, following their loves and heartbreaks, betrayals and personal epiphanies. Hello Beautiful speaks profoundly to the human condition and the consequences of making choices out of self-protective impulses. With gentle reference to Little Women, a childhood favorite of mine, Napolitano pays tribute to the heart of Alcott’s beloved novel and the realities of Alcott’s life, while giving us something so deeply affecting that there were moments that moved me to tears.
Hello Beautiful is going on my personal best reads of 2023, and this would be a wonderful choice for any book club. Or if you want to read about someone who really loves basketball while March Madness is going on in the background. We currently have signed copies, so pick one up today!

someone just said anita looks like they're a IT and you know what? they're right..!!!
they're literally a tech nerd who likes to tinker with computers (could potentially build a PC if they want if they were to. stream. which ik they don't want to but you can ask them for help through-), have to pretend they have a basic programming and had a habit of dismantling little tech stuff and just spread out like a blueprint 'cause that was how they used to dismantle and reassemble their weapons, and. their only best little makeshift device was.
the stupid fake walkman with a ipod motherboard just for a certain woman who kept destroying her own music players is probably their favourite one to make. and they did!! want to make more!!!
