Dublin
Dublin can be quite expensive. And I’m not just talking about two fingers of whiskey in St. John Gogarty’s on a Saturday night. An adult ticket for the Guinness Storehouse, for example, is €14. The full cost of a trip to Ireland, including flights and accommodation, must cost an arm, if not the better part of a leg. So, the more free stuff the better:
1. Trinity College, Dublin
The cream of Ireland: rich and thick.
Trinity College, Dublin was established in 1592, officially incorporated as the “Holy and Undivided Trinity of Queen Elizabeth near Dublin,” on the site of an old Augustinian monastery, All Hallows.
The walled campus, a calm oasis in the centre of a chaotic city, is an architectural marvel: filled with beautiful cobble-stoned squares, buildings of Portland stone, ancient libraries, and a hidden garden.
It’s the alma mater of Jonathan Swift, Oliver Goldsmith, Edmund Burke, Thomas Moore, William Rowan Hamilton, Bram Stoker, Oscar Wilde, and Samuel Beckett. It’s also a legal deposit library for Ireland and the United Kingdom, and home to the incredible Book of Kells, a ninth-century illuminated manuscript copy of the gospels.
My favourite thing about the Book of Kells, aside from its astounding decoration, is the scribe’s take on Matthew 10:34. The manuscript reads gaudium (joy) where it should read gladium(sword), so the line is rendered I came not to bring peace, but joy. The canonical Bible, along with modern scholarship, believes that this should instead read I came not to bring peace, but the sword.
Tip: It costs nothing to roam around the grounds of the college. An adult ticket to see the Book of Kells costs €11 at the door (and €14 for a fast-track ticket online), but you can get in free by sourcing yourself a student. Current students, and graduates, are allowed up to three guests at no cost, so ask around — someone will bring you in.
2. Oscar Wilde Statue
“My first meeting with Oscar Wilde was an astonishment,” revealed W. B. Yeats, “I never before heard a man talking with perfect sentences, as if he had written them all overnight with labour and yet all spontaneous.”
If you don’t believe the testimony of Yeats, and you want a good laugh, I suggest you have a read of the transcripts of Wilde v. Queensbury in 1895. Wilde was privately prosecuting the Marquess of Queensbury, his lover’s father, for publicly declaring him a “posing sodomite.”
Edward Carson, once a student at Trinity alongside Wilde, now became lead defense barrister for Queensbury, as well as lead character assassin. Their court room exchange will give you a sense of what happens when two minds — one drearily literal, one beautifully ironic — collide.
Wilde is still remembered for his intelligence and humour. Indeed, some of his “perfect sentences” are etched permanently in stone next to his statue across from his old home, No. 1 Merrion Square. These Wildean one-liners are so incisive and scintillating, they’ll make your day.
We’re all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.
3. The Chester Beatty Library
I’ve been trying to avoid use of the phrase “hidden gem” but it’s impossible when you’re talking about Dublin’s little-known Chester Beatty Library, tucked away inside Dublin Castle.
It contains some of the most treasured manuscripts in the whole world, really priceless objects. The collection includes the earliest copies of the gospels, the letters of St. Paul, the Book of Revelation, alongside fragments of the Old Testament, as well as early copies of the Qur’an, the Life of the Prophet, the Gospel of Mani, and countless manuscripts from other religious traditions. If you like history, you might never leave.
4. St. Patrick’s Cathedral
St. Patrick’s Cathedral, which dates from 1191, is one of the most beautiful buildings in all Ireland. The cathedral was rededicated in 1254 after renovations. Rebuilds were carried out after a fire destroyed the tower and part of the west nave in 1362, and after the Restoration of the Monarchy in 1660. The spire was added in 1749. By the 19th century, the cathedral was once again in disrepair. Between 1860 and 1865, Benjamin Lee Guinness (yes, that Guinness) spent £160,000 on rebuilding the cathedral, so much of what we see dates from this time.
The cathedral was the scene of a scuffle between two of Ireland’s leading Anglo-Norman families, the Butlers and the FitzGeralds, in 1492. The Butlers, seeking refuge in the cathedral, were surrounded. Gerard FitzGerald ordered that a hole be cut in the door through which he offered his hand in a gesture of peace, and the two families reconciled. This is the origin of the phrase “to chance your arm.” This very door is on display towards the rear of the Cathedral.
Jonathan Swift, the author of Gulliver’s Travels, became Dean of St. Patrick’s in 1713. He actually tried to prevent the “songsters” from his cathedral choir from taking part in further performances of Handel’s Messiah after its hugely successful world premiere in Dublin in 1742. He condemned their “disobedience, rebellion, perfidy and ingratitude,” in having offered their services on the opening night.
Tip: It costs €6 to gain entry to the Cathedral, but if you attend one of the services you can go in for free. Evensong typically starts at 17:30.
5. National Museum of Ireland
The National Museum houses all of the archaeological treasures of Ireland, among them the spectacular Tara Brooch, the Ardagh Chalice, and the Cross of Cong.
There are also Viking swords, and cannons from the Spanish Armada, among much else.
6. Glasnevin Cemetery
Opened in 1832, Glasnevin Cemetary is the de facto national cemetery, containing the graves of many of the biggest figures in Irish history from the last two centuries: Daniel O’Connell, Charles Stewart Parnell, Michael Collins, alongside others, like the writer Brendan Behan, the poet Gerard Manley Hopkins, or the singer Luke Kelly.
It was the first non-denominational cemetery in Ireland, founded by Daniel O’Connell, who led the movement for Catholic emancipation in the United Kingdom, of which Ireland was then a maligned constituent.
Tip: The tours are brilliant but they ain’t cheap. It’s free to look around, though, and you can eavesdrop on the famous speech by Patrick Pearse. Make sure to go for a pint in Kavanagh’s, known locally as the Gravediggers, in Prospect Square, just next to the back gates.
7. Áras an Uachtaráin
The home of the President of Ireland, it was once the residence of the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, the vice-regent of the King or Queen of the United Kingdom.
There’s a little round room with small portraits of all the Irish writers who have won the Nobel Prize for Literature: W. B. Yeats (1923), George Bernard Shaw (1925), Samuel Beckett (1969), Seamus Heaney (1995), and James Joyce, who never won the award, but bloody well should have.
Tip: It’s entirely free, but it’s first come first served, so get there early.
8. Natural History Museum
The Natural History Museum, known locally as the Dead Zoo, was built in 1856, three years prior to the publication of Darwin’s On the Origin of Species.* It’s very much a Victorian museum, filled with stuffed animals, skeletons, and ridiculous life-size models. It hasn’t changed a whole heap in a hundred and fifty years.
*Interestingly, the first person to respond to Darwin’s theory was Samuel Haughton, a naturalist in Trinity College, Dublin. He wasn’t very supportive.
9. Christ Church Cathedral
Dublin is unique in having two cathedrals, St. Patrick’s and Christ Church. It’s even worse when you consider that these belong to the Protestant Church of Ireland, so that the Catholic Church maintains its own separate pro-Cathedral, St. Mary’s on Marlborough Street, which is the “temporary” seat of the Archbishop of Dublin until such time as their ownership of Christ Church is restored. This has been the situation since 1825, and remains so.
The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, known widely as Christ Church, originally dates to around about 1030, when Hiberno-Norse convert King Sigtrygg Silkbeard built a church on the site, prior to his pilgrimage to Rome. This pre-dates the Anglo-Norman conquest.
The Normans organised a complete rebuild in the 1180s. There were further rebuilds in 1358, 1562, 1829, and 1871. Much of the current building is Victorian, dating from the last big restoration between 1871 and 1878 by architect George Edmund Street, at a cost of £230,000, paid for by Henry Roe, the whiskey distiller. St. Patrick’s, then, was rebuilt with profits from beer, while Christ Church was rebuilt with profits from whiskey.
Henry II attended Christmas Mass here in 1171, the first time he took communion after the murder of Thomas Beckett. The cathedral was also the location of the coronation, in 1487, of Lambert Simnel, Yorkist pretender to the throne of England. Christ Church was restored to the Roman Catholic rite in 1689, when James II arrived in Ireland. This was reversed in 1690, when William defeated James at the Battle of the Boyne. William presented the cathedral with a gold communion plate, which can still be seen in the crypt.
Tip: Like St. Patrick’s, if you attend one of the services you can go in for free.
10. National Gallery
The National Gallery contains the finest collection of art to be found on these shores. There’s the best of Irish painting, from Jack B. Yeats, to William Orpen, and Louis le Brocquy, along with more famous international works by Vermeer, Van Gogh, Monet, or Picasso.
The best of the bunch is The Taking of Christ (1602), by Caravaggio, which was unexpectedly rediscovered and recognised in 1990 in the residence of the Society of Jesus on Leeson Street.
This is my favourite painting, and not simply because of its proximity, but because of the tale of its discovery, the centrality of this event to Christianity, the perfection of the colouring, and the cameo appearance by the artist himself. He’s the figure farthest to the right, holding the lantern.
Caravaggio was a genius, and this is one of his most exquisite pieces. He was a master of light and dark, and his paintings are stunning in their realism. Although the practice of chiaroscuro, “light-dark,” had been widespread, Caravaggio deepened the shadows and focused the light. He made the form definitive. He was avant-garde Baroque.
Plus, Caravaggio was a delinquent, a miscreant, and an opportunist. He carried a sword for fighting. He drank excessively. Indeed, his first self-portrait was merged with a portrayal of Bacchus, the hedonistic Roman god of wine, and ritual madness. Caravaggio used his concubines, all prostitutes, as models for such luminary religious figures as the Virgin Mary.
The satirist H. L. Mencken once said that the “great artists of the world are never puritans, seldom even ordinarily respectable.” In fact, he was adamant that no virtuous man “has ever painted a picture worth looking at, or written a symphony worth hearing, or a book worth reading.” Ain’t that the truth.

Eric Jerome Dickey's Blackbirds
Eric Jerome Dickey's Blackbirds was a good sibling or friends story.  I really loved my family and friends, but I guess I was slighted on always seeing the best version of themselves.  I could not get too angry with someone (biological father and his family) that was never there.  Thank goodness for getting through my child molestation therapy that I never encountered soft dicks or penises.  The cocks, dicks, or penises I chased after or chased after me were good and great, and each one knew how to fuck or make love.  I did meet some kings of ding-a-lings (for example 11 inches length by 7 inches round), but did not challenge myself to take them.  I want to meet a dude with diphallia or anyone as a hermaphrodite.  I still have not encountered the best besides myself.  Unfortunately, my last bottoming or submission experience was 2010 after chasing each other for five years.  I am very glad I evolved in being a dominant top or Type A or active male for females and males.  This is probably another reason for me not getting along with males because I do not submit to anyone except to a female who wants the moment for an hour or two.  I am very proud of the dominant and aggressive females that I had in life that taught me a good lesson or two in bed.  I am very proud of the super feminine and submissive females that fed my ego to the max.  It is only one vagina or pussy that I had had superpowers over me like kryptonite before I had to let her go.  Yes, if I had preference, priority order 1. Vagina or Pussy, 2. Ass or Butt, 3. Dick or Cock or Penis in any sexual activity in the present or future.  Most posts will be written in another language.  This is not a coming out story, but taking the power from those who live to disrupt my peace, harmony, and healing, and my optimistic future.  Friendships can be cherished if life can allow such closeness over time.

Yes, I talked about home ownership under my journal entry HUD – Journal Entry #6.  People thought I was crazy because the proof of the Washington, DC home at 3222 Theodore R Hagans Dr NE – all the pictures from start to finish went with my storage drives.
Yes, I did finance and signed a contract on the Washington, DC home.  United States Congress and each State I resided Congress are wondering why they are getting letters associated with the 2007 physical assault at the United States Department of Defense intelligence community setting, which all the major materialistic losses started.
Now, I am at the end of the scientific bell curve; in which, I am back at the point of making the same amount of money I did as a Freshman at South Carolina State University with work study and tuition refund for overpayment.
The government now steps in and decides to say they are going to give me funding to help me.  America capitalism can smell the money and I see the greed.  Now, the government gave this same funding to my biological mother, made her isolate herself and crazy until finally she died and never saw social security retirement.  The government takes biological father at his 63rd/64th birthday before he could claim social security retirement.  Of course, I do not know all my biological father’s business.  Thus, leaves me at my current age and I already told the government I am going to continue to do whatever the f*** I want, where I want, and how I want.  I am salvaging the remaining of my life after what the church did, government did, family did, friends did, strangers did, school did, legal/law did, organizations did, employers did, and life says it is my fault.  My vitals are at 100% close to perfect and now coming out of the mental health illnesses, the government and people think while I am fully conscious to make a decision on how I want death to end my life.  After March 26, 2016 to April 3, 2016 week, a very dark, psychotic, phoenix personality arose out of the Gemini horoscopic sign.
I read all the rules about the government funding.  I said enough loss and stop taking because I already do not give a d***.  This is a current event and will be reentered in a journal entry.
After I loss the Atlanta home at Wynsley Way with all the upgrades and pre-qualified and qualified by Bank of America due to independent inspector findings, I bought the Washington, DC home at $535,000 with all upgrades at full retail price.  I loss the home to foreclosure and my $40,000 downpayment with it.  Bank of America pre-qualified me for the loan, but could not go forward because the house needed a jumbo loan that they could not provide.  Here is the proof of paperwork by Wells Fargo, who financed the jumbo loan to finance the home.  Witnesses that saw the home – neighbors, auntie and cousin from the Mack family, local DC friends, college students when I tried to do Craigslist rentals like AirBnb, etc.
Yes, America I will keep reminding you of the physical and real loss and hurt behind a struggling African-American male achieving the old school American dream.  So let me see America or the Globe do the past.

Journal Entry #78 - First Deposition…Costing People Their Careers, Police Certifications, and Bar Licenses By Sending It Directly Back…My Balls and Spine (Backbone) Are Attached to Me!
JOURNAL ENTRY #78 Name: Manley M Collins Social Security Number: 5 7 9 – * * – 6 5 4 1 Date of Birth: 06/21 Place of Birth: Washington, District of Columbia Country of Birth: United States of America Date: April 6, 2024
TOPIC: First Deposition…Costing People Their Careers, Police Certifications, and Bar Licenses By Sending It Directly Back…My Balls and Spine (Backbone) Are Attached to Me!
I made my first deposition with Federal Express was on January 24, 2024. It was recorded by a court reporter and videographer. I met the corporate attorney Charles V. "Bud" Holmes for the first time unexpectedly. The conversation lasted for eight (8) hours with break. I did get my corporate lunch at Tatte with Bud paid by Federal Express. My application for criminal complaints were heard. Growing up, I was shielded too long from lying. All six out of fourteen defendants lied on March 27, 2024 and March 29, 2024. The Clerk-Magistrate for the Boston Municipal Court - East Boston dismissed their cases based on the length of time and the assumption Federal Express security camera system was working. This is how Massachusetts talk - First sentence is half truth. Second sentence is alternative truth. Third sentence is a butt-face lie. The bookstore books support the same ecosystem from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Boston, Massachusetts.
Massachusetts chose to do blind and blond scenario on me. "Blind" means do not look up his information in the hardwire systems people use everyday or internet because it is a lie. "Blond" means just dumb do him anyway. Yes, I made all my court dates for the charge "Threat to commit a crime." I filed with the civil cases to courts so fast, sent it to the American Bar Association, Boston Bar Association, Mayor and Governor, and Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination so fast that they regret the day they filed the charge by Massachusetts State Trooper Joseph A. Middleton (white male cop). I am on Pre-Trial Probation (90 days was completed), then a white male judge Richard Sinnott decides to extend it to year until 3/15/2025. If I got to behave, the legal community surrounding the charge have to behave too and remove all the UNETHICAL sht. The legal community tried to go for immunity for the sht they do. My civil case is being heard April 2024 at the John Moakley Courthouse in Courtroom 18 in United States District Court. Please do not think the charge is going to prevent me from defending myself. I always show up for my fights. Legal community did three major mistakes and errors - Maryland, New York, and now Massachusetts. Systemic racism at its best. Telling is my best friend and schizophrenia will get the rest.
I am a PHOENIX! (Firebird reducing everything to atoms)
Boston Housing Authority tried to get updated information with a new interviewer. I kept telling them that they did the wire from Citibank that caused the Citibank-NYPD-New York situation. Instead, they withdrew me from all the public housing list and subdized housing lists. I sent in two appeals to Boston Housing Authority to request to see the information system and information security that they are putting this information in. Guess what? No response.
I got my Massachusetts FlexCard on behalf of Blue Cross Blue Shield. I rejoined Planet Fitness. I had to downgrade first, then upgrade to the Black Card. I joined Weight Watchers too, and it was good to see some of my social networking community mainly women were on the program. I am still a group fitness instructor, doing Zumba, and track and field athlete.
I cooked so much food at my AirBnb. I gained a little weight, but since leaving the AirBnb, body is working to get the weight back down. The Boston Medical Center food pantry was giving me new foods I never seen before. My host educated me on how to do extensions in AirBnb.
I still was speaking with Coach Tommy at BCBS Learn to Live Programs. I completed the Resilience Program, went through the Depression program, and now working on Stress, Anxiety and Worry program. I have been 107 days enrolled in the CBT Learn to Live Programs.
I taught Zumba - My First Class routine. I subbed for several gym classes. My second routine is ready. I am moving forward with Zumba Core, Zumba Glutes, Zumba World Africa. I attended Beto's Livestream Zumba on February 3, 2024. It was fun and hilarious. I started my own Total Body Conditioning class. All my previous instructors and various sports were channeling through me. I have three different formats - running, stationary, and circuit. It is pretty fun and well attended. I registered for an upcoming Zumba Rhythms 2 session and Les Mills Initial Training. These are my four focus and core competencies in the sports and fitness world: Zumba (dance), Les Mills (athletic conditioning), Spinning/Cycling (bicycling), and Personal Training/Coaching/Athlete (bodybuilding/running). I am not going to do crazy like I did in the business and technology world.
I attended Epsilon Gamma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity MLK Event at Boston University Computer Science Building. It was well attended on Saturday, January 13, 2024. I made some new friends. Never got a response from the chapter members via email or phone, but did meet some members during the event.
I met a new friend from one of the social media apps and we ate at The Blarney Stone in Dorchester / Fields Corner neighborhood. It was lunch time and it was a quiet environment. The food was good portions.

I secured a new therapist who was a psychologist and accepted with BCBS. He is really good.
I missed the Boston Athletic Association 5K Registration.
I met my first application for criminal complaint - Collins v. Kyambade. I told my story. Kyambade's attorney and he lied about hitting me with his SUV stating I stopped, turned around, and jumped in front of his SUV while using a smartphone and waving him back and forth. The Clerk-Magistrate stated he was going to hold his decision until later. The decision came in the mail and the Clerk-Magistrate found no probable cause so no criminal complaint will be pursued. Progressive the insurance company is processing the insurance claim.
POST Commission still sending me letters stating my complaints against police officers are closed. I sent some of the complaints back through the courts.
Collins v SplitSpot - Case Management Conference was scheduled for Wednesday, February 7, 2024, but the courts entire information system were down at Edward W. Brooke Courthouse. However, I met Gillian Rose Crossman's attorney and I have never seen an attorney beg or argue without a judge to be let out a case. That was a first and he did get what he wanted because the Judge sent a handwritten decision through the mail restating what the attorney said. The next case management conference is scheduled in April 2024. I only have two defendants left.
I attended an ProQuest and Clarivate Web Science presentation. It was more awareness about the Clarivate project for ProQuest.
I attended the USATF Open New England Indoor Championships on February 18, 2024. I met some more athletes. It was a packed house of spectators and supporters at Harvard University Athletic Complex. My track team, Potomac Valley Track Club, went to Chicago, Illinois and won 1st place in combined points, 2nd place for the men, and 3rd place for the women.
I kept filling out McDonald's and Dunkin Donuts surveys. The NewtonX Community does send me some interesting surveys that gets me thinking about my own company initiatives. I got Google paid surveys late after it met its quota. I had to stop in the middle of the YouTube survey because I really was not getting any benefit from it.
I have Clover's Slice (Wells Fargo financial network) company interested in me for Outside Sales Representative. The opportunity sounds too good to be real, but I am thinking about my mental health on whether I want to take on the stress.
Collins v Piersanti application for criminal complaint was rescheduled because Piersanti's mail was returned from his attorney's office. I gave them his last Connecticut mailing address and it has been scheduled for April 2024.
I saw my primary care physician at Boston Medical Center for a follow up since I was taking PrEP. He did some additional physical techniques that have not been done in years. He also mentioned he rarely or never had a super healthy patient. My HIV test results came back NEGATIVE.
I met with Boston Medical Center Bridge Clinic again and we talked about all the current happenings. It was very interesting that the medication Latuda came up. I was able to get it. I told the nurse practioner that Caplyta was not going to approved by the insurance company. It took a minute to adjust to Latuda…however, waking up at 3am to 4am hungry is not a good sign, body temperature varies, and emotional rollercoaster. On the flip side, my Massachusetts General Hospital psychiatrist cancelled his appointment that was scheduled the next day.
I signed up for BCBS GeoBlue for international travel health insurance. It is expensive. I watched my Joel Osteen ministries. I also watched a fellow SCSU bulldog, Lowell James, preach the word. Social media unexpectedly bringing people I have not seen in decades across my feed. March Madness got me hyped in just watching the games and the upsets in men and women basketball. I did not make a March Madness bracket this year.
I stayed on Windows 10 operating system for a while because Windows 11 with bitlocker crashed my system. I upgraded to Windows 11 and the system build was without bitlocker.
