On second (or maybe fourth) viewing: Weeds, season 1 (created by Jenji Kohan, 2005)
Having technically known it by heart after several intense re-watchings back in the mid-2000s, I have recently had showed it to my boyfriend, who knew it only tangentially (generation gap!). I remember criticism that Weeds' later seasons (with the exception of 4 and 6) got lost in the re-invention need, with the location shifts camouflaging the storytelling staleness. It's a valid point, I re-watched chunks of seasons 7-8 last year, and cringed heavily at the stinky quality of everything that does not revolve around Mary Louise Parker's nuanced performance. The tenure of the series proved that Nealon and Gould are limited actors and that Parrish, when given a chance of emotionally complex characterization, can pull an interesting performance (season four's ending is his highlight). But it is Parker who remains amazing throughout. In those later seasons, she got a fantastic screen partner in Jennifer Jason Leigh, with whom she shared awesome, brittle, sexy, and extremely lively sisterly chemistry. In this opening season, her great partner is Perkins, whose role would become more of a nasty caricature in her last two seasons (the ones outside Agrestic). What surprised me this time though is how clumsily shot and badly written this season is, part of which points to its temporal situatedness: the characters of color are only drug dealers and maids. White guys (and Celia) throw homophobic and ableist slurs as joke punchlines. Suddenly, starting with episode four, there are weird fade-outs truncating the wobbly rhythm of the episodes. Regardless of that, I am looking forward to re-watching season two, which was my favorite back then: I never was a fan of Donovan, but his on-screen relationship with Nancy Botwin was a highlight.

Darkfesta Martin Card
(Darkness Festa Rui)
Dang do I love angst. Also, sorta in the process of having a Wild Kratts x WxS AU. I’m set on Aviva as Emu and Koki as Nene. As for Tsukasa and Rui, I keep debating which one Martin and Chris would fit better in. For now, I’m going with Chris as Tsukasa and Martin as Rui. Jimmy is mainly WxS KAITO but can switch between all the sekailoids depending on the song.
I also have a VBS AU in mind with mainly Aviva as Kohane and Koki as An.

Supporters of #NoHostageLeftBehind Open Letter to Joe Biden - Part 1/2
The letter consists of lies, no mention of Palestinian genocides, and a call for ceasefire.
Read the full letter:
Dear President Biden,
We are heartened by Friday's release of the two American hostages, Judith Ranaan and her daughter Natalie Ranaan [Raanan] and by today's release of two Israelis, Nurit Cooper and Yocheved Lifshitz, whose husbands remain in captivity.
But our relief is tempered by our overwhelming concern that 220 innocent people, including 30 children, remain captive by terrorists, threatened with torture and death. They were taken by Hamas in the savage massacre of October 7, where over 1,400 Israelis were slaughtered—women raped, families burned alive, and infants beheaded.
Thank you for your unshakable moral conviction, leadership, and support for the Jewish people, who have been terrorized by Hamas since the group's founding over 35 years ago, and for the Palestinians, who have also been terrorized, oppressed, and victimized by Hamas for the last 17 years that the group has been governing Gaza.
We all want the same thing: Freedom for Israelis and Palestinians to live side by side in peace. Freedom from the brutal violence spread by Hamas. And most urgently, in this moment, freedom for the hostages.
We urge everyone to not rest until all hostages are released. No hostage can be left behind. Whether American, Argentinian, Australian, Azerbaijani, Brazilian, British, Canadian, Chilean, Chinese, Danish, Dutch, Eritrean, Filipino, French, German, Indian, Israeli, Italian, Kazakh, Mexican, Panamanian, Paraguayan, Peruvian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, South African, Spanish, Sri Lankan, Thai, Ukrainian, Uzbekistani or otherwise, we need to bring them home.

Sasuke haters think we’re cringy for trying to point out Konoha’s mistakes and saying the massacre was wrong lmao they are like ‘it ain’t real bro u should be showing this much reaction to actual world problems’ and then go and worship naruto and write essays about how much sakura sucks and how that one time lee kicked sasuke’s ass also how they think we have problems with a fictional massacre but we just don’t care about real life massacres or racism is beyond me honestly
Ah, I honestly hate that type of argument, “Naruto is not real tho”, like -congratulations, Christopher Colombus, you discovered America.
That doesn’t mean I can’t see real issues reflected in that fictional piece -nor that I can’t enjoy it by doing the type of metas I like to read. They do know that many great works of fiction are inspired by both real-life events and other works of art, right?
For instance, there’s a marvellous petit story written by no other than Jorge Luis Borges (internationally known argentinian writer), called Emma Zunz in The Aleph (1941) - and if you haven’t read it -do so, it’s just a few pages long and is so incredible is still being studied to this day. I’ll leave a link here in english -but if you understand spanish, try to read it in that language. It became so famous that years later, argentinian writer Martin Kohan published Erik Grieg (1990), that tells the story of one of the secondary characters that Borges introduced (in the original, he didn’t even have a name, Kohan brilliantly took advantage of an ellipsis created by Borges to pay tribute to his work -don’t you just love literature?).
They love metas who give complexity to issues/notions/character that don’t have them to begin with, yet, when what is canonically presented as a well-layered issue reachs fans that enjoy picking it appart as to see the contents, they get mad and suddenly develop a superior complex over “not caring for fictional characters because they have a life” -analyzing is a wonderful thing, writing is a wonderful thing, and if people as Martin Kohan can do so and get away with it, why can't we? Let haters hate.

Black Education in America- The Storytellers
Total Enjoyment!!!
I was just wondering ...” Are you enjoying television as much as I am?”. The most exciting, daring and creative storytellers have appeared on the scene. This time, reminds me of those boisterous and crazy days when I was a teenager, That was the era of the all-stars. The Fania All-Stars reigned over all of the Salsa World. When I speak of master musicians, I am talking about Johnny Pacheco, Willie Colon, Celia Cruz, Ray Barretto, Cheo Felciano. In Jazz, there were countless musicians who stepped out of conventional practice and spent sometime recording with their friends and colleagues. The results were spectacular. John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Red Garland, Horace Silver, Sonny Rollins, Ahmad Jamal, Mycoy Tyner, Bobby Timmons, Elvin Jones, ,Art Blakey, they were and are killer musicians who made you laugh, cry, think and dance as they created something original and new or embellished songs of the past. Glorious times. Made you wanna shout. Why don’t we do that in literature...story telling?
I am feasting on the inventions of Taylor Sheridan...Yellowstone, 1883, 6666 and Mayor of Kingstown. These are marvelous works of art. I wonder what would be created if we invited some of the All -Stars in the craft to sit for a moment and create a work or pieces in collaboration with other giants. If they can do it in music. why not in literature?
Here is my list of all stars... some 20 people.
Martin Scorsese, Larry David, Norman Lear, Ryan Murphy, JJ Abrams, Aaron Sorkin, Vince Gilligan, David Kelley, Jenji Kohan and of course, Taylor Sheridan
Tyler Perry, Antoine Fuqua, Shonda Rhimes, Issa Rae, Lena Waithe, Kenya Barris, Ryan Coogler, Lee Daniels, Steve McQueen, Courtney Kemp Agboh.
What a lesson this would be for the children of America!!!!
