I’ve seen a lot of idol!joongdok aus floating around but what if: sctir idol au.

Shj who’s finally back from military service and is very confused by why there’s so much aegyo and cutesy fanservice and ending fairies. (Think like, that compilation of suju and highlight running away from the camera) And then by chance during a variety talk show thing he gets paired w a younger idol, hyj. And of COURSE they have chemistry, it’s them. Duh. And like, for hyj it’s mildly antagonistic; he only talks this much when he’s feeling ticked off. But shj? Shj is absolutely fucking delighted by all of this, and it 100% shows on camera. Shj manages to talk hyj into doing multiple types of aegyo even tho he hates it, and hyj, by some feat of magic and superhuman strength gets a few finger hearts out of shj. The hosts hardly have to do any work at all.

So naturally, both of their fanbases are going crazy over this, and even more naturally their companies are stoked too bc it’s free publicity, so their managers sit them down individually and are like “hey you’re gonna hang out w this dude bc it’s good for your image and your sales, and I don’t care if you hate his guts, sell it to the internet.” And so they do, as you are wont to when your livelihood depends on it. They start hanging out outside of filming, going to cafes and posting selfies on ig and all that good fanservice stuff. Hyj gives up on the “grr I hate you” shtick pretty quickly, especially when shj consistently offers to pay when they go out together, and in his mind he’s like ‘well yknow if I had to be stuck with anyone as a pseudo-coworker business partner type of person, shj’s not like… the worst option’. Even after the initial craze dies down and it becomes pretty well-established that they’re friends, he still willingly hangs out w shj and they get dinner together and go to events (“go to events,” I say. They go on dates. ““““Friend”””” dates) and stuff. This is his first real idol friend. He thinks it’s nice.

(Meanwhile shj is like. Ready to get down on one knee. I neeeeeed him to be the pining one in this relationship. Hyj does not know an emotion if it smacked him in the face. Hyh gets it from him. At some point hyj goes on vlive and shj is there and spends the entire time not very subtly asking for a kiss. Hyj’s fans are in the comments dying. Hyj does not notice any of this.)

Postwar: A History of Europe Since 1945 by Tony Judt -- a monster of a book that still captivates me with every page, it goes from 1945-2003ish and i'm 200+ pages in and only in the 50s :0 Also a pulitzer finalist and Council on Foreign Relations Ross Award winner

The Anthropocene Reviewed, by John Green -- nonfiction memoir/humour type in the form of short reviews. I dont read Green's fiction but I've listen to every episode of his podcast of the same name since it started and I'm an addict.

All highly recommended!!! I mention the awards in case you're like me and find new books by browsing relevant sections of book awards...does anyone else do that.

last movie? I don't really watch movies often, but the last one was Ghibli's Up on Poppy Hill. Wholesome. 10/10, would recommend. I'm trying to finish all the Ghibli movies I haven't seen yet (I have like 3-4 left) but I'm afraid I wont be able to see my laptop screen through my tears when I watch Grave of the Fireflies. ;^;

last series? that I watched? I'm a pr hardcore Running Man (korea) fan. I watch every Sunday and I've seen at least 400 episodes out of the 500 something. Last series I finished: Brooklyn 99. 10000/10, one of my favourites of all time.

Some of you might have mixed feelings about kpop, and I do too honestly, but there are some groups and some songs worth checking out purely for their music/performances and maybe the group dynamics . AKMU is one of them - they are a brother-sister duo and they’re really good, I love their songs! Dinosaur is upbeat and catchy. I have no clue what they’re singing about though oof

Kpop “Feel Good During a Drive” Playlist

I put together 9 kpop songs that would be great to play during a car ride. I’m always in my car alone and it’s very boring and eerily silent when there’s no one else there, so I ALWAYS play music in the car no matter how long the drive is.  I could have made this list 100+ songs, but I picked out the most recent, best ones from my fave kpop song list.

I think this playlist would be perfect to play during a car ride and it also offers a variety of vibes that you can experience because sometimes you want to save yourself from boredom, but sometimes you also want to chill and relax.

1. Lee Gikwang - What You Like

I love to play this song because this song is very upbeat and it is extremely catchy. It’s one of those songs that you hum or bop your head along to. I love that the song pulls back at the end. It resolves very nicely which allows for a smooth transition into the next song. The lyrics are also very cute because the lyrics are directed to the listener as if he is singing the song to them so it’s very engaging. I am actually a huge fan of Gikwang and the group he is from, which is Highlight. This was his very first solo song/album so it was very exciting to hear what type of music he could release as a solo artist. I have been obsessed with this song since it came out and I am definitely not going to get tired of it any time soon!

2. BLACK6IX - Like A Flower

This is also one of my absolute favorite songs that I have been listening to non-stop lately. The instrumental is quite amazing too, so I also recommend checking it out (here is a link to it). This song is really good to play when you want to listen to something easy to the ear, but also upbeat. The sound almost melts into the ears and gives a feeling of slipping into another world. But then in the middle, it goes into a trap beat and one of the members raps and breaks you out of that entranced state for a moment. Playing this song makes me feel cool while I drive for some reason. Maybe it will have the same effect on you (which you won’t know until you try it) I actually found this song while I was browsing for more kpop songs to listen to (as if I didn’t have enough already) and I came across this one. This group is very new and this is actually their second song, but I have heard of them before because I actually checked out their first song when I saw it on a chart for a Korean music broadcasting show. They caught my interest, so I will definitely be looking forward to more songs like this because it is very different from what I’ve heard. 

3. Jung Yong Hwa - That Girl (Feat. Loco)

We’re continuing with the upbeat music theme, but this song is different because it builds up with Loco’s amazing rap then the chorus right after. This song just has so many different colors and textures. It’s just a FUN song. The chorus is also very easy to sing along to or at least hum along to. I would be surprised to hear if you DIDN’T do a little dance while listening to this song. I came across this song while just clicking random songs in the recommended column and I looked at the thumbnail and went, “Oh! I know who that is!” because he is the main singer in a group called CNBLUE which I am semi-familiar with. So I wanted to hear what type of music he could offer if he goes solo. And I am quite impressed and intrigued.

4. AKMU - Dinosaur

I love this sister and brother duo so much. They are just such talented singers and composers. This song is absolutely amazing just like all the other songs in this playlist. You would be very surprised when you go through the different parts of the song. In the beginning, you would think that this song would be very laid back and acoustic, but then they slowly add EDM effects into it, and then the CHORUS. There are so many ups and downs in this song; parts that are silent and slow and parts that are full of combinations of sounds. This song is a very easy listen and is the type that you would play with the windows open while the breeze flows through the car (obviously most favorably in the spring or early summer). Their voices also harmonize very nicely (like for all their songs) which is so satisfying to listen to. It’s impossible to not be in a good mood while listening to it.

5. One - Heyahe

Okay, time to lay back on this one. It’s an easy listen, but unlike the other songs in this playlist, this song is the one to play in order to calm down and get engulfed by the music. When this song comes on, it’s time to let go. This song just puts the listener in a peaceful state of mind. It’s nice to take a break from roaring bass blasting through the speakers. My friend made my listen to this song a few times and I actually didn’t like it at first because I was not the type of person who likes laid back, chill music, but my taste in music changed since that time, so I love this song now. It’s best to be more open to different types of music.

6. NCT 127 - Cherry Bomb

Speaking of bass blasting through the speakers, that is exactly what you get when you play this song. So if you like to roll down the windows or feel the car rattling after every beat, this is perfect for you. If you don’t like loud ringing in your ears, then this is a song you should probably skip. If you haven’t noticed already, I LOVE this song and I love to play this in the car too. It’s a weird and interesting song. I didn’t like it first listen either, but I love it now and this happened to the rest of my friends, so obviously this song has the ability to grow on people. You should give the song a few listens before making an opinion about it. And for those non-Korean speakers out there, the “If you’re happy and your know it, clap your hands” line should be familiar to you, and “I’m the biggest hit on the stage” is constantly repeating over and over again, so this song is the perfect song to scream sing along to.

7. Wanna One - Energetic

This song is cool because it starts off as a slower song with piano chords and then it builds up to a beat drop at the chorus. Of course beat drops are amazing and they magically make a person hyped up. The song is titled “Energetic” for a reason. This song makes the listener energized! This is for when you find that your car ride is getting stale. This song is a perfect pick me up (Ha, get it “Pick Me Up”? Kpop stans know what I’m talking about- okay lame joke). No one wants a boring car ride and with this song, it’s impossible to have a boring car ride. Everyone was listening to this song and group, and I thought I would jump on the bandwagon and it was one of the best decisions of my life. So maybe it’s time for you to jump on the bandwagon too.

8. Sunmi - Gashina

This song is a nice change from the rest of the songs because Sunmi has a different type of voice from the rest of the artists in this playlist. She definitely went for the synth pop sound for pretty much the whole song which could make for a fun experience during a car ride. This is also another song with a beat drop. Beat drops for the chorus is such a fun way to get the listener more engaged and into the song because it makes the ears perk up and go “Wow that was so unexpected but also amazing!”. I came across this song also by browsing various korean artists and songs in the recommended tab. When I first came across this song, it was love at first listen and I couldn’t wait to get the song on my phone just so I can play it in the car.

9. MONSTA X - Newton

I thought this song was perfect to end this playlist because they’re even on a road trip in the music video! This song was intended to be a summer song, so this is one of those songs that you play blasting through the speakers while driving down the street with the windows rolled down. It just puts you in a good mood. It’s a kid-friendly, fun, happy song. I’m a huge fan of Monsta X and their music and this was quite different from their usual releases. It’s refreshing to listen to an artist that is musically versatile.

Well, I hope you like this playlist and I hope you enjoy listening to it during your next car ride whether you are the driver or the passenger. And don’t hesitate to play it with other guests in the car! I’m sure they’ll enjoy it too. This playlist is also perfect to play when you’re sitting at home doing nothing. It’s a nice way to put yourself in a good mood. I listen to most of these songs when I want to cheer myself up after being in a “meh” mood. Music is good for the soul.

Hey again! So, there’s actually two definitions used for “Kpop.” Firstly, it’s short for Korean pop. Secondly, it’s a general term used for all music produced in Korea. Since I don’t know what type you’re into, I’ll just lay out some recommendations for you from the different genres of Kpop.

I’ll start with the Kings 👑

BIGBANG - MADE Album Playlist

(Justly hailed as the “Kings of Kpop”, all their songs (Japanese & Korean) are gold so listen to them all! They’re composed of strong personalities that work together very harmoniously. They set the trend for music genres, song-writing, fashion and so on.)

G-DRAGON - All MV Playlist

(Called the “King of Kpop” and the main force behind BIGBANG. Be sure to check all of his songs 👌)

T.O.P - Doom Dada MV & Turn It Up MV

(Originally an underground rapper, he has his own unique style to pair with his very deep baritone voice. He has more solo songs than this so have fun digging 👀 Hint: he also sings!)

Daesung - Top Tracks Playlist

(Loved as “Yabai Kang” or Dangerous Kang in Japan, his songs are 99% Japanese and are either really funky and upbeat or soulful. But the key is watching his performances because he’s deadly.)

So apparently I was right about Roy Kim and Park Narae. And the 2 other guests are famed siblings duo Akdong Musician, Lee Chanhyuk and Lee Soohyun. That line up suddenly makes me feel quite uncomfortable though.... Don't get me wrong, I actually really like Akmu and I'm a big fan of their music! They're both great artists, very mature for their young age and Chanhyuk is well on his way to become one of Korea's best songwriter. BUT! I've got a feeling their reason for being on the show is purely to promote their new album, and this irks me to no end!! I don't blame them personnaly because I'm 99.9% sure they were not behind the decision for their appearance. You can just tell this was a well devised plan put together by Papa YG and some higher-up at KBS he's friendly with. Roy Kim and Park Narae have already been on the show before (several times if you include the phone calls) and both of them are close to most of the members so it makes perfect sense for them to be back, no matter what kind of far-fetched concept the production team came up with. But I seriously have no idea how they will justify the brother and sister's visit. The only person who might know them enough to invite them in my opinion is Defconn : they've been on his MBC show, "Weekly Idol", at least once before, but I seriously don't think they have any form of close relationship. They did a stint on KBS for a couple of months when they had a segment on "Yoo Hee Yeol's Sketchbook" last year so Junho might have met them there... Then again if he did, I really can't picture him being on close terms with either of them. Who knows, maybe I'm wrong and will end up eating up my words when the episode airs haha! Anyway, it kind of worries me that since the show has been gaining some well deserved popularity, the head honchos at KBS have been pushing to use it as a plateform for promotion. I already had that feeling when they did the "Hwarang special" a few weeks ago, even though it ended up being quite funny thanks to Park Seo Joon, but I'm really crossing my fingers this is just a one off thing.

Wanna One A group formed of 11 boys that were all voted for on Produce 101 Season 2. All so talented and worth of appreciation. All their songs are catchy and all the shows they’re on are fun to watch. What’s not to love? My 3rd fav group 12/10 definitely recommend Here’s a link to Wanna One Go :)

KNK Astro’s best friend!! Astro and KNK had debuted within 6 days of each other so they became close!! Honestly Astro and KNK are one of my fav group friendships. So so cute! They may look manly but they’re soft. Rain is definitely one of my all time fav songs!!

EXO yet another popular group!! but they don’t earn that title for nothing. There songs are super catchy and they have so many talented members!

Golden Child a brand new rookie group!! Haven’t gotten too into them yet but from what I’ve see they are super cute and their songs are catchy!!

Twice My favorite girl group!! Always coming up with iconic songs and dances and they’re all just so cute!!!

Akmu A brother sister duo!! Honestly idk what else to say other than the fact that I love their songs!!

Eddy Kim he’s not a part of a group but his songs are so so so good. He’s my absolute fav solo artist and Sanha has done a couple of covers

K.A.R.D I don’t personally stan them but a lot of people do and they say they’re really good!

Korean Music Rec List

Most of these artists are self-composers as well and these songs aren't strictly k"pop"  ~~this is mainly a Korean indie rec list LOL.~~ These are my absolute favourite Korean artists that I can listen to for eternity and beyond hahha.

**LIM KIM** - One of the most unique female singers out there with the coolest blend of a sultry voice and electropop sounds in [Awoo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXPADwU05OQ), [Stay Ever](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-9-0v3vvw8), and [Love Game](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKlJXpjeYC8). **HYUKOH/OH HYUK** - An indie group/soloist who's husky voice can melt you and leave you breathless. I'm not exaggerating when I say that everything he releases is gold. All of his collabs are mindblowing too - it's like whatever he touches turns to gold (or maybe he's just absolutely good at choosing people to work with). They're a perfect example of an underdog becoming successful *within* a year of debut. **Sunwoo Junga** - She's relatively unknown (not rly kpop more indie) but mmmm her sultry smooth voice that just connects with me entirely, I love her so much. Some songs are jams while others are full on ballads that make me want to cry haha. What I absolutely love about them is that they hit a diversity of sounds/genres (as a group and as soloists) and they do it So. Damn. I was never interested in rap or hiphop until I discovered his releases lmao.
