Carvanha and Sharpedo for pokemon reviews?
Carvanha is, as the name implies, a piranha, though it's considerably fiercer looking than an actual piranha is IRL. It shares the underbelly of a red-bellied piranha, but the yellow fins and the placement of them are very much original, as is the star marking on the underside and the exposed lower fangs.
While Carvanha looks good, it does struggle a little with not having much of a theme at this stage—with the torpedo thing going on with Sharpedo, you'd think it would have another underwater weapon motif of its own, but no. I don't have any visual complaints though; the colors look nice and the eye and jaw design gives it personality.
A piranha evolving into a shark makes sense not because the two are related, but just because they're both fish known for having sharp teeth and biting. Unfortunatley, Sharpedo and Carvanha have little in ommon other than the shared yellow star and the dark blue color with red eyes. Stuff like the fin shape and number of fins, the jaw design, and the eye design all change when they could've been similar to better connect the two. Also jarring is the lack of red and severe toning back of the yellow. Ironically, from visuals alone, Carvanha has the more complex look of the two by far, which is the opposite of how it usually works.
Anyway, that aside, Sharpedo's big thing is that it looks like a torpedo and it's missing its back half for... some reason, making it kind of like an ocean sunfish. I don't really get why? I always hear people say it's to make it look like a torpedo, but torpedoes very much do have back halves. There was a beta Pokemon that was a shark with an anchor for half its body that Sharpedo seems to have originated from, but the lack of a tail, while distinct, doesn't really seem to connect to anything. You could've elongated the body and kept the fin placement and it would, if anything, read clearer thematically.
I will say that its a bit more memorable than Carvanha though, and I do like how the eye and side fins are contained in their own little section separate from the rest of the body. The gills are also neat.
Sharpedo also has a mega, which is... A Lot, just a ton of random yellow scars that clutter the design to an extreme. There are a few things I like here—the jaw shape is much more like Carvanha's which is a nice bit of continuity, the snout blades are neat, and more yellow is welcome—but overall it's a mess that doesn't really enhance Sharpedo's concept in any meaningful way.
Overall, Carvanha is a nice design even if it doesn't have much of a theme. Sharpedo is a good thematically but is a bit plainer than its pre-evo with a few odd design quirks, and Mega Sharpedos just kind of a visual mess.

Nowadays I barely can play any mainline Pokémon games besides the ones from Unova which means this one edit was heavily inspired after playing a rom-hack of Emerald
The only thing we can agree about OR/AS is about Archie and Maxie both redesigns being hella cool and also giving them more character

[Image Description: Archie, the boss of Team Aqua, with his Mega Evolved Sharpedo. Archie is depicted in his appearance from Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. He is clutching his anchor pendant in one hand, the other holding out a red and white Pokeball. His Mega Sharpedo is behind him, its mouth open menacingly. The background is a patch of land overlooking a stormy sea with high, choppy waves. End ID.]

“Do you know that Pokémon, people, and all life in this world depend on the sea for life? That's right. The sea is an irreplaceable treasure for every living thing on this planet. But with our selfish extravagance, humanity dirties the great ocean, destroying this source of all life… Day by day, we're all destroying our most precious resource! If we humans suffer from our actions, well, maybe we'll end up getting what we deserve. But what about the Pokémon in our world? The Pokémon that no longer have a place to live because we stole and soiled their seas? The Pokémon that won't have a place to raise their young and watch them grow? We are creating a world in which innocent Pokémon suffer as a result of our actions… And that is something that I can't forgive!”
Archiiiiieee! My man! Hoo boy, if I said Maxie had a nice if subtle upgrade in ORAS, Archie got a very in-your-face one and it is good! :D
