Gaius Julius Vindex, governor of Gallia Lugdunensis, raised the standard of revolt against Nero in the Spring of 68 A.D. He sought the support of other provincial governors, but none responded except Servius Sulpicius Galba, governor of Hispania Tarraconensis, whose claims to the throne he promised to support. The city of Vienne in Nargbonensis declared for him, but the colony of Roman veterans at Lugdunum refused him admittance. As a result Vindex had no Roman troops under his command, so was forced to rely on native Gauls, local notables and their clients. His forces were crushed and Vindex was killed at Vesontio by the army of Verginius Rufus, governor of Upper Germany. A few weeks later Nero committed suicide and shortly thereafter Galba was formally declared emperor by the Senate of Rome. Stranger Finds Woman’s Lost Heirloom Ring At NH Beach

A good Samaritan searches for three days to find and return a woman’s lost wedding ring. Francesca Teal and her husband were playing with a football in the water at North Beach in Hampton, New Hampshire, when she lost her wedding ring. The Massachusetts couple searched for the ring for hours and even had help from several passersby, but they weren’t able to locate the family heirloom. 

That evening, Teal took to social media in the hope that someone might be able to find the ring that once belonged to her great-grandmother. Her post to the Hampton Beach Residents & Friends Facebook group started out saying, “Long shot here…” The post was shared thousands of times and caught the attention of local metal detectorist Lou Asci, who likes a challenge and donned a wetsuit and hit the water with his metal detector in search of Teal’s ring.

Asci searched the area for two days and came up empty handed, but decided to try for a third day. "I don’t take failure all too well," he explains. "I wanted to go back and give it one last shot." His persistence paid off when he found the ring on that third day. He sent Teal a picture of the ring and, once confirmed, then he sent it back to her. Teal returned to social media to share the good news and to thank Asci and everyone else who helped her get the ring back. Asci responded to the post that he was thankful to be able to help.

Akik követték az oldalunkat, azok láthatták, hogy az önkéntes civil régészeti projektünkkel rengeteg helyre eljutottunk már a megyénkben, sőt azon kívül is már több alkalommal. Voltak kisebb és jóval nagyobb megmozdulásaink, mégis az egyik legemlékezetesebb, hogy egy hosszútávú projekt keretében a sátoraljaújhelyi Kazinczy Ferenc múzeummal közös munkán dolgoztunk, így hetente, kettő hetente rendszeres látogatókká váltunk a környéken.

Az itt elvégzett munka egyfajta ásatási revízióként működött, amelyet a sátoraljaújhelyi vár jelenleg is folyó feltárásán végeztünk. De mi is ez pontosan? Mint tudjuk bizonyos tárgyak nem, vagy nagyon nehezen találhatóak meg klasszikus feltárási módszerekkel. Ide tartoznak az apróbb érmék, kis veretek, mindenféle töredékek, kisebb nyílhegyek, vagy akár az elöltöltős tűzfegyverek lövedékei is. Ezek mind nagyon fontos és történeti szempontból nagyon értékes leletek akár még szórványként is. A mi munkánk ez alkalommal abból állt, hogy az ásatási felszínek időszakos átvizsgálása mellett, az évekkel ezelőtti feltárási meddő anyag leszállítása után azt mi folyamatosan szétterítve vizsgáltuk át és találtunk benne mindenféle fémleleteket az őskortól napjainkig.

A munka változó körülmények között zajlott, de az időjárási körülmények egy percre sem tántorítottak el bennünket. Volt részünk a nagy nyári hőségben és a kora téli fagyos, hideg, csapadékos időjárásban is. A kitartó munkánk eredményeképpen több száz lelet került a múzeum birtokába ezzel is tovább gazdagítva Sátoraljaújhely várából előker��lt leletanyagát, amelyet a hamarosan nyíló kiállítson a nagyközönség is szemügyre vehet.
