so i got mildly obsessed with those bizarre mobile game ads to the point where i wound up commissioning one for my game
big thanks to TheComicFiend and Kevin Fagaragan for bringing my unhinged vision to life
A little experiment in arcade puzzle mechanics, developed as an impromptu game-jam-style challenge. About two weeks worth of work, over the span of a month or so.
Place rows of tiles, connect sections of pipes together, stay inside the ever-closing safe zone and score big when the whole network lights up!
Also fully compatible with custom color schemes made for Mixolumia by @davemakes / @dgeometric! This project, in fact, began as a way for me to test out my own color palette importer utility that I've been working on.
Been holding onto this one for a little while, after completing it i had meant to put it online earlier but kept delaying and getting distracted by other projects.
This was a fun challenge to myself, trying to go all the way from start to finish in a relatively short timespan and not get caught up with the details.
A bit of a break from larger ideas, i wanted something super small and constrained that i wouldn't mind pulling together quickly and not caring too much about completeness.
Faisons un petit tour des sorties annoncés sur Nintendo Switch !

i made a soundpack for mixolumia inspired by gaming time at home with my wife. i hope it makes you feel like you are matching shapes to survive in a damp dungeon underneath a wildly ornate cathedral.
Mixolumia is a block-dropping puzzle game. It's also a great Twitter thread.
Sharing a genre with heavy-weights like Tetris and Puyo Puyo, Mixolumia sets itself apart with one simple twist: the blocks are diagonal. The game is about diamonds instead of squares, and no diamond can float; this means that even beginners need to account for gravity.
Mixolumia's greatness goes far beyond its core idea however. The controls are simple, but laid out better than any other game of its type. Smoothly, you drop blocks and score points. Due to its gravity, Mixolumia has combos. Even when done accidentally, landing a combo feels like you've accomplished an impressive feat.
Mixolumia includes 5 different game modes, meaning every gamer will be able to play the way they want.
My favourite is Marathon, you have to clear 450 blocks; racking up as many points as you can, as fast as possible. A game mode I don't play often, but feel like should be more widespread is Relaxed. With no speed increase or failure, it's a great mode for those wanting to practice their combos, or just play, without any of the pressures of the other modes.
The game does not feature a traditional soundtrack; rather, it comes with a couple of interchangeable soundpacks that work with its dynamic music system to create a responsive and unique soundscape for each session. The game supports fanmade content, and there is a community who make new soundpacks and colour palettes for the game.
As I mentioned right at the start, Mixolumia is a great Twitter thread. The creator @davemakes logged the entire creation of the game, initial idea to release, all in one Twitter thread. This is how I first found out about the game, I followed Dave before the game was released, and got it as soon as it did. For an aspiring developer, this thread is a must-read.
I love Mixolumia, for me, it easily beats its older competitors by being smothered in style, and packed with substance. It also comes with a great behind the scenes look, but that's just a bonus. For me, Mixolumia gets a 13/16. That's 5 more than average!
PSA in case you create an all-black Mixolumia palette and make the game unplayable
(btw the game is 75% off on itch this week and it comes with a steam key)
