Did you know...
...that the relationship between Kylo and Rey can be interpreted as purely platonic, and still be just as powerful?
They may not be biologically related to one another, but each of their central struggles revolves around the issue of family. Each feels as though their family has abandoned them, and interestingly enough, each deals with feelings of abandonment in regards to Han and Luke (Kylo feels that they failed him as family members, and Rey wishes they could have seen her as a surrogate daughter.)
The void left in each of the characters’ hearts is due to a lack of strong, platonic bonds with family. Rey is desperately trying to fill the void; Kylo is desperately trying to destroy it. They’re two halves of the same, and this struggle over family is something that consumes them so much that it takes precedence over any romantic possibility.
While each wants the other, it doesn’t have to be in a sexual sense. Rey was abandoned by her parents, so in a subconscious way of rewriting the past, she assumes the role of “parents” (becoming almost an extension of Han and Leia as they were in TFA) and vows not to abandon Ben. Kylo killed his father under Snoke’s orders, but in his own way of rewriting the past, he refuses to kill Rey—if he can turn her, he can “replace” his family (whom he will inevitably have to kill if he stays on this trajectory) with Rey (whom he won’t have to kill, if she turns).
Both characters see one other as a way to either fulfill or destroy their need for family, and this does not need to be accomplished through romantic or sexual means. In fact, taking their quasi-sexual encounters at face value, they don’t seem to show that much interest in each other. When Rey offers Kylo her hand, expecting him to fully grasp it, he touches only a single fingertip to hers with the minimal amount of contact possible. When Kylo accidentally treats Rey to some circumstantial eye candy, Rey asks him with annoyance if he has a cowl he can put on. To read romantic or sexual interest into these encounters is to apply a subjective interpretation.
Just because the characters are not biologically related doesn’t mean that they can’t be read as having a platonic, or even familial, relationship. Many non-shippers make the mistake of dismissing their relationship entirely, but the relationship between Rey and Kylo is significant as a reinterpreted reincarnation of the relationship between Luke and Vader, and arguably just as platonic.

Okay, these are kinda stupid, but I’m not good at puns/jokes and couldn’t think of better captions. First time drawing Kylo, and I’m not a very good artist anyway, so. I hope it turned out okay. Also I wasn’t sure whether to use the aro colors or the ace colors, so I did one for each.

A no-ship holiday Kylo fanfic
Kylo Ren stopped under the doorway, his Force sense tingling. He looked up and saw that there was mistletoe hanging there. Not only that, he had walked under the doorframe at the exact same moment as absolutely no one.
“Guess we have to kiss now,” he didn’t mumble to the vacant air where not a single person was residing.
Nobody said “I guess so,” and there was not a corporeal sentient being present to blush or giggle awkwardly.
Kylo didn’t carefully take off his helmet, and didn’t look shyly into the optical orbs of anyone, because there was no one there except for him. He didn’t lean forward, his frame towering over empty space, and didn’t kiss anybody at all, as absolutely no one was present at the time except for a mouse droid that skittered past without paying attention to him.
The kiss was not slow and sensual and passionate, because it didn’t exist and it didn’t happen. There were no fireworks or rising orchestral crescendos. There wasn’t even that part where they finish kissing, pause, then kiss again, because there was never any kissing in the first place and there was no other living, breathing organism there.
“Wow,” Kylo didn’t say as he didn’t pull gently back, not wiping stray strands of saliva off his lips. “I think I felt a spark of something there.”
But none of that happened, because there was no one standing under the doorway except for Kylo.
“Why is there a tiny branch of foliage hanging on the doorframe?” he said instead, and tore off the mistletoe so he could go throw it at somebody.

While I never saw rey//lo having a chance I'm a little confused about ky//lux like? They hate each other and Huxs was literally ready to murder Kyle and Kyle was abusive af towards him? I don't know, how can people think it's gonna be canon, it'd be verrry toxic and unhealthy
I see R//ylo as something that could never happen because I think (and r e a l l y) hope Rey would have more respect for her friends than to ever be with the man who has attempted at every turn to kill them all. Kyl//x has no standing either. Hux is a Bad and all around irredeemable character. He genuinely has a lust for power while Kylo still has grips on his humanity(?). Keeping Kylo alive is beneficial to Hux. He does it for military strategies, not because he wants to run his fingers through his hair. Hux is canonically in love (to some degree) with Phasmama anyway
-Kylocentric
In fandomland, hatred equals sexual tension, and therefore all characters who despise each other must be secretly wanting to bang. —luke-shywalker

Honestly being a kylo fan and not shipping any of his ships is hard, especially on this hellsite...I wish there was ways we could all just talk and vent, anyways thanks for creating this blog ;)

have you ever thought about starting a non ship discord?
I don’t know a single thing about Discord, and apparently neither do any of the other mods, because this ask has been sitting here unanswered for a week. Have you thought about doing that? We’d be glad to publicize it for you! —luke-shywalker

my nonshipping argument two years ago: you see, kylo ren and this character are incompatible because of their inherently opposite natures and their conflicting motives. the interpretation of such-and-such scene as romantic is highly contrived...
my nonshipping argument now: I'M SICK OF SEEING YOUR PORN ON MY DASH

kylo shippers are so entertaining tbh
you’ve got the reylos who are like “ahh! <3 my sweet baby children are CANON because of this and this and that!! they complete one another and heal each other from the pain of their pasts!!! ahhhh, they love each other sm, anyone who says otherwise is blind <3333″
and then you have the kyluxes who are basically “yeah our ship is the absolute worst and we’re aware it’s probably not canon. they’re disgusting and a mess and they hate each other so much; it’s hilarious. we’re garbage lol and we don’t care if you hate us, ‘cause we hate ourselves; it’s fine”

It’s really funny to see how both Reylo shippers and Kylux shippers are equally convinced that TLJ supports each of their desired ships while denouncing the other.
Just an observation.
