Love this @hprecfest prompt! Fest fics deserve all the love especially when the fest is posting and they’re still anon. That’s why I try to make fest rec lists as often as I can which is not as often as I’d like (the amount of new fics gets overwhelming sometimes!). I’m very pleased with my choices here, the Drarry fic has just been posted on Erised and the Dronarry fic is one of my favourites of the year. of course I’m taking this opportunity to rec a brand new fave from this year’s Erised 😌 MA hit all of my buttons with this gorgeous break up make up story. here Harry & Draco are older and wiser; I love the mutual pining and deep understanding both share despite being apart for so long. their reunion is gentle, mature and uncomplicated, with lowkey angst revolving Draco’s complex relationship with his father.

Dronarry Fest my beloved 🥹 this fic was my absolute favorite and I cannot accept how criminally underrated it is. I was very much here for the triad sex ofc but when I tell you the Dron scenes gave me the heart kick! I didn’t expect to fall for them but got completely entranced by their chemistry, dialogue and UST. this story made me long for them and adding this perfect Harry to the mix just made me salivate. I love how the tone alternates between playful, sexy and intimate. can’t rec this enough!

I usually do! I often try to. So my comment count is almost, not quite though, doubled.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Hrm; I tend to do a lot of bittersweet endings. We'll keep it simple and say "Never Gets Easier", a fic where Edmont and Charlemend talk about their lost sons. There's no sweetness there, just men haunted by mistakes and losses.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

Maybe "When Everything Changes" which is kid fic from the POV of my WoL's older brother when she's born and his ambivalence turns to big brother joy and love.

Do you write crossovers?

Haven't yet.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Not that I recall.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Occasionally. Usually pretty vanilla. It's all right, I guess.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Had an OC's backstory on our WoW RP server's fic blogging site lifted wholesale; they changed the names and class, and then…walked into our weekly guild meeting that I was leading and tried to join our guild. When confronted, the person claimed their partner had leveled the character for them and based the backstory on Skyrim (my OC's story is very specific to WoW). They tried to message me later as if we were pals who would laugh this off someday. I informed them that was not a thing and btw the site mods knew they were a plagiarist now. Also everyone knew who their alts were and a bunch of other trouble they'd caused. So far as I know, they bailed from our server after that.

I hoped they learned better and grew up quite a bit; this was well over a decade ago.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

Once or twice now; so long as folks credit and link back to my originals, and share the translated link with me, it's all good!

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Roleplay and actual story collaboration both. It's a lot of fun.

What’s your all-time favorite ship?

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

What are your writing strengths?

Folks seem to like my dialogue.

What are your writing weaknesses?

Impatience, and certain grammatical abuses that do nothing for length nor clarity.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

Depends on the fic. Depends on the intended audience.

For dialects, mostly the concern is "don't overdo it" as it can slow things down, be really jarring at best and offensive at worst, and difficult to understand if laying it on too thick.

Other languages entirely have different guidelines though, from sprinkling in single words or short phrases, to entire passages, and whether or not you translate or leave it up to the reader. Depends on fandom, on the characters, on the story, author intentions.

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Narnia, in a my little girl diary as a pre-teen. I wanted to pick up Susan's story as a grown up and bring her and family back to a magical land. Cuz I knew it could, would happen someday, even if Lewis never got to write it himself.

What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to?

Final Fantasy XVI. Midst. The latter is tricky as I really don't have ideas at the moment, but really want to dig into that vibe. My writing needs to be more weird in general, really.

What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

Day of Dragons. The dragons are cool. I don’t care about any drama in the community. I’m here for the cool fucking dragons.

The Isle. Once again, I don’t care about any drama in the community. I’m here for the cool ass dinosaurs because you can customize your own skins and they just look and sound cool (Dilo, Herarra, and Ptera are my faves)

RainWorld. Scugs and Scups. Need I say more?

Hollow Knight. Sorta falling out of this one, but until I beat the entire game (P5) I am not finished.

Minecraft. Technically in “the fandom”, but not really attached to a specific YTer or anything like that anymore. I just like the game.

Goro + Valerie AU Master Post

💙 Canon-Adjacent Alternate Universes

These alternate universes/timelines explore the outcomes if Valerie chooses to not follow Jenkins' order to assassinate Susan Abernathy. There is still a heist and patricide at Konpeki, but without Valerie present, this also means the events following Saburo's death play out a little differently for Goro. (Spoiler alert: they still manage to find each other in these timelines, too.)

🎴 Corporate Loyalty

Valerie is forced to make a life-altering decision: assassinate the director of Arasaka counter-intel or betray her supervisor. She chooses betrayal.

These alternate universes either put Goro and Valerie into a whole new setting or combine elements of Cyberpunk with another series. These currently aren't nearly as fleshed out as the alternate timelines, and they're usually just a very way for me to continue exploring new ideas for Valerie and Goro if I need a break from Night City.

🏹 Thedas Adventures [Tumblr Tag]

I'm going back to my roots and getting in trouble in Thedas. While I'm technically exploring this through a replay of Inquisition with Valerie in the Inquisitor role, I want to craft a totally different life for her there. She and Goro might even find their way into my mostly canon-compliant Dragon Age worldstate come Dreadwolf, especially since I see Goro fitting into Tevinter pretty well.

🐺 Cyber Witchers [Tumblr Tag]

This crossover was mostly an adventure in modding. I wanted to see what clothing items I could put on Goro without having to learn Blender, and it turns out the Witcher Samurai jacket fits. Likelihood of revisiting this AU is low, but not entirely out of the realm of possibility.

General FF7 Questions

Who is your favourite character from the FFVII setting? What do you love about them?

I write most often with Sephiroth and Cloud, but my favorite character is Barret. I love Barret and I always have. He starts out rough and gruff, but you find out fast he is not at all. He fights because he feels he has to. Most of all I love that he is a great father. It's a huge point of contention that he leaves Marlene behind, but I think it gets glossed over that it kills him to not be with her. If he's with her, however, it means he isn't fighting to make sure she has a future worth living, but every moment away he is thinking about her and missing her terribly. I love him. I love that inner conflict and the guilt he faces and fights past. He's just so *chef's kiss*

Favourite party (three person team) idea when playing FFVII? They don’t have to actually work mechanically (or even be possible in the game), just that you like the idea of them together as a fighting party.

Cloud-Barret-Nanaki. I don't know why I played as these guys so much. I forced myself to try and even out the team XP, but I always came back to these guys.

Is there a headcannon or AU you want to see more of?

That's a question I'm more likely to ask everyone else. I'm always coming up with headcanons and AUs. They just pour out of me. I can't really think of one that's stuck with me for super long.

Do you have a favourite memory associated with FF7 (any part of compilation) or something particular you did while playing (such as what you named the characters, or how you arranged your materia) that you think is unique that you'd like to share?

Creator Questions

Who has been the most difficult character to write/draw? Who has been the easiest?

Aerith. I love her and her characterization, but she is a tough nut to crack for me. She is a far, far cry from a damsel needing rescue, but there's a lot of issues to unpack for her. A lot of secrets she never told and probably planned to. I struggle to reach the parts of her that probably did need help without taking away the chaos and the strength she 100% had.

What’s your ideal creating environment? Background noise/silence, indoors/outdoors, desk/couch, etc.?

I am a freak of nature. I write best in a silent room, laying down or sprawled over a couch. It doesn't have to be dark, but it does have to be inside.

What’s your creative process look like? Pantser/Emotive Writer/Gardener or Planner/Structured Writer/Architect? (Do you outline or just go with the flow?) If you’re an artist, do you do a lot of sketches, or just dive right in? Backgrounds first, or the main focal point? Multiple layers or all in one?

I'm a definite pantser. I go with the flow, but it only works so long as there is a flow. I'm trying desperately to at least make a general outline of fics now and I write those in pencil so I can't say I lost the drafts.

What do you do when you get stuck on a project?

Walk away. Sometimes literally. I'll go for a walk and just think it over, try and walk a mile in the character's shoes. Sometimes (often) I walk away for far too long.

Do you do commissions, requests, or prompts? (If you have a page for it, drop a link.)

I take headcanon prompts almost all the time on tumblr. On occasion I will do full-fic requests in exchange for a charity donation (your choice).

Which of your works is the most memorable to you? I don’t necessarily mean favourite or best work, it could be the work that taught you the most through making it or that holds a special reason in its creation. Drop a link.

Test Notes from the ShinRa Handheld Portal Device is a fic I wrote, in several large chunks during Do Good Weirdly sessions in the Summer and Winter. This event is a huge challenge but a ton of fun. Authors and Artists from fandoms all over spend a set amount of time just creating non-stop. At the end, the creators donate to a charity of their choice. It is an amazing time to spend with some rad and creative people and I highly recommend joining us this winter for the next session

What aspects of fandom spark the most joy for you?

The people. There is negativity everywhere, but once you curate your followers and your friends there's nothing that can beat just seeing what the people you let around you create. Y'all are amazing.

Is there something you'd like to see more of in the community?

Commenting and Reblogging. I'm guilty of liking and moving on and forgetting, but art and fic die if it doesn't spread around. Reblog and Comment if you like it and want to see more. It means more to the creators. It really does.

Anything you’d like to say to the community?

Thanks for making this a space that has sparked so much joy. I've loved this game since I was a kid and I'm so happy to just sit and talk with others who do too.

In celebration/honor of me finally finishing my Gigantic Silver Backstory, I’ve compiled a list of other fics which either feature their own versions or heavily hint at Past Horrors. So not all of these have a full Deal, but they all hint at/touch on Silver’s past in some way. I was def inspired by a lot of these stories, but at the same time tried to carve my own path. 

(this doesn’t include any mod au stuff, only canon era)

Notes: Exactly what it says on the tin. The format of this one is brilliant, wow, it gives me chills. Silver telling stories interspersed with flashback memories. Really quite phenomenal. Heed the tags!

More Than One Odysseus by Freudhood, mcicioni:

Summary: Reunion fic, about two years after 4.10. Quite a lot of talking and a little of the following: fishing, sex, hunting, bathtubs, Jewish surnames, books, stories, and Terra Australis.

Notes: This is a post-canon fixit with Jewish!Silver revealing a few things about his past, giving Flint something so he’ll start to trust him again. It has one of my FUCKING FAVORITE Silver philosophies on storytelling as a whole: 

“You start with a fact,” he says, and it’s still fucking general and vague, but it’s the best he can do for the moment. “And then you work it over, like you would with a piece of steel that’ll eventually become a knife, or a sword. You forge it.You hammer it. You file it. You grind it. You polish it. And you’ve got a story.”

Wow it’s so good. A really well-rounded and good story!

Summary: He didn’t remember his mother. He didn’t know if she held him close to her body and rocked him in her arms, whispering his name into the top of his head. Didn’t know if she named him at all.

It didn’t matter. When you live a life as unremarkable as his, no one cares what you are called.

Notes: Silver ruminates on the names he’s been called over the years. A rehash of canon of sorts as well as a fix-it.

I read this wonderful little fic around the time I first started writing my own backstory and was struck by the similarities. Truly the Black Sails Silver lovers share a braincell at times.

Cloth of Gold by dornfelder:

Summary: "Tell me one thing," Flint says.

Silver lifts his head, eyes full of apprehension. "If I can."

"If you were to tell me about your past – about all the things you cannot bear for me to know – what do you think I might do?"

Notes: This might be my favorite story about Silver’s past that doesn’t actually reveal anything solid? The way it’s done is BRILLIANT. It is Flint Seeing him without needing any of the firm/finer details that Silver simply Cannot Speak. ABSOLUTELY INSPIRED.

To Be Free of Temptation by anselm0:

Summary: “What would you suggest we do instead, then?”

Maybe it was the way he said it, the way Flint was sitting with his knees sprawled out, or the secrets he guarded so closely; Silver didn’t know what it was, but somebody’s Devil took ahold of his tongue then and he said, “I think we should fuck.”

Notes: This story doesn’t have explicit Silver past, but it hints very heavily at past noncon/sexual trauma. Also it’s just a BRILLIANT Silverflint fic where they come together in a sort of alt early s3.

One of my forever faves for how awkward the sex is at first, the miscommunication, and then Flint taking the time to figure out What is Happening and fix it. I have def taken cues from this dynamic in other fics, as you’ve seen :P And I am ofc a FIRM believer of Silver having had sex work go very very wrong in his Unspeakable Past.

Ponce De Leon Avenue by flawlessassholes:

Summary: "Hey," He says, his eyes crinkling. "You think we've found the Fountain of Youth?"

Silver snorts. "I hope not. You'd be terrible at being immortal."

After the events of 2x01, Flint and Silver leave for St. Augustine and find the Fountain of Youth.

Notes: Another Jewish!Silver interpretation. A canon au after 2.1 that has the Most Fascinating OT4, wow. And wow this story in general is so so interesting and devastating. The Silverflint dynamic here is unique and choice. They’re immortals here, if that wasn’t clear from the summary.

Summary: They return to Nassau after their defeat of the British Navy, only to be met by Agitator Billy and his propaganda machine. This is why Captain Flint tries not to let other people decide things.

In which: Flint wears a disguise, Silver tells a terrible story, one bathes the other, and only one man died the whole night which is, like, definitely a record for them.

Notes: More exploration of the Rise of Long John Silver, as well as a really great Silverflint fic. Silver shares a bit with Flint about his past. Written before s4 and 4.9, so the vibe is a little different, but it still fits beautifully.

Summary: It takes two weeks to get Flint off of Skeleton Island.

Or rather, it takes two weeks for the island to let them go.

Notes: I’ve recced this one before, and here it is again lmao. It contains some terrifying hallucinations/flashbacks for Silver of his Unspeakable Past.

Also it’s a true horror story! Featuring Skeleton Island as an ancient entity which Silver and Flint must sacrifice to in order to escape. Another case of things being both resolved and unresolved between the lads. A forever favorite.

There is Freedom in the Dark by i_ship_an_armada:

Summary: After Savannah, James is a lost, broken man until a bit of magic helps him see what he missed in his past so he may choose a different path leading to the peace he so desperately wishes for.

A story of mistakes and bitterness, magic and mysterious messages, forgiveness and love, with a little bit of hope thrown in.

Notes: An extremely in-depth and compelling post-canon Silverflint fix-it, with supernatural elements. Very satisfying, with a Silver backstory take that I found extremely interesting and creative. But I won’t spoil it. :P

The Tether Series by stele3:

Summary: “So you did find him,” the man says faintly. When Thomas looks up he finds himself caught in perhaps the strangest regard one person has ever given another, a gaze that absolutely does not dissuade Thomas from the notion that a feral, scavenging animal has broken into their home.

Notes: This is an amazing series top to bottom and contains many wonderful stories. It’s my favorite Jewish!Silver interpretation by far and might be my favorite Silver backstory period. 

My two specific favorite sections for Silver are A Dance on the Floorboards and The Snake in the Grass, but you really should just read the whole series. It’s very long and very sad at points, but well worth the investment. Truly a freakin’ masterpiece.

The Canterbury Tales by Wind_Ryder:

Summary: Pirates. Attacking Georgia. A part of Thomas wants to believe that there's nothing at all relating the events outside to the events in his personal life.

But when he turns around and sees John Silver slipping in through the backdoor, he very much doubts that's the case. "Tea?" Thomas asks blandly, throwing the latch and shutting his blinds like a good Puritan man.

James, of course, chooses that moment to rush up the steps to Thomas's shop. All but colliding with the door, not expecting it to be locked, and Thomas takes pity. Opening it and closing it behind him the moment he's rushed in.

At first, James' attention was solely on Thomas. A pleasant thing in most circumstances, but Thomas can only smile blandly and watch with slight amusement as James' attention wavers. "What the fuck are you doing here?" He hisses, spotting John within seconds. And John responds by doing what any sane man should do when the weight of James' full ire is directed at him.

He swoons.

Notes: Another huge story investment with many twists and turns and lots of slowburn character resolutions. As in, a Gigantic Fix-it. I don’t want to spoil the Silver take here, but I haven’t seen anything else like it in the fandom. The Novel Discussions series as a whole is well worth your time.

Notes: The Miranda-Silver bonding fic we deserved. Featuring a lot of ghosts from Silver’s past, literally, that he’s spoken to over the years. Full of delicious flashbacks. I absolutely adore this story. Spooky and sweet and sad and wonderful.

The Power of the Telling by Farasha:

Summary: In a quiet moment back at New Providence, in Miranda's house, John Silver ponders the man James Flint might have been once upon a time. Flint still knows so little about his quartermaster, it seems that John can still surprise him, even in the smallest things.

Notes: Silver likes to read!! They talk about power and books and there’s some kissing. A lovely story.

What’s in a Name? by Craftnarok:

Summary: Some conversations in the dark between Flint and Silver, set during episode 3x09. They have a moment alone in the Maroon camp, after Mr. Scott's death, and what begins as curiosity and sharing develops into rather a lot more.

Notes: Just a really good Silverflint fic all around, with them sharing stories and bonding. Another story written before s4 and 4.9, so take that into account. I still really like it and think it’s a good take.

Summary: When he’s blown off the side of the ship, the last thing he sees is Flint’s horrified face looking down at him from above.

Wonders if it’s the fate of all of those closest to Flint to die this way.

Notes: When Silver is assumed dead in s4, he “kills” his past self for good. AHHH THE CHILLBUMPS.

Notes: A loose s4 rehash with flashbacks from Silver’s past. Very sad, very poignant.

He wonders now, whether he’s been playing into God’s plan all along. Because no matter how angry he gets, how defensive, how many “fuck you”s he flings to the heaven, isn’t it all just proof that he still believes God is there, despite it all?

Silver doesn’t know how to counter that.

Maybe he doesn’t want to anymore."

The Jewish!John Silver character study no one asked for, but you're all getting anyway.

Notes: A canon rehash as seen through the lens of a Jewish!Silver. Absolutely devastating but just AMAZING. This is not a fix-it. HEED THE TAGS.

John tries not to shift, repressing the urge to run that immediately rises up. “Not before we found you, at any rate.” John has to laugh at that, like he’s some stray that Flint decided to keep, here on these godforsaken cliffs that Flint insists they train atop.

Notes: Here’s another brilliant take on Jewish!John Silver, written in a stream of conscious style that is EXCELLENTLY done. Pitch perfect with some very immersive historical details which show careful research. Gave me a lot of feelings about my own story.

“Jesus Christ, don’t do that,” he says. “If you want to know where I come from just ask.” It almost even feels like the truth to say it, like if Flint asked him in the just the right way, John could find the words that would make his life till now into something that could be understood.

Summary: "He takes Muldoon’s hand, flesh cold and thick as deepest water. It requires some maneuvering before he finds the right position. The only thing that feels comfortable is to grip Muldoon exactly as he had while fighting, screaming, to keep them both above the surface. Silver tightens his hold, and flexes and pulls: this time he will do it better. This time he will do it correctly. This time he’ll get the man so much fucking air he won’t even know what to do with it."This time he will lift him up properly, and when it’s all over he will put him down properly, too."

Notes: Another Jewish!John Silver take that packs a PUNCH straight to your guts.  A perfect character study, a perfect short story. No, but the craft in this is stunning from top to bottom, I could teach a class about it. I simply cannot recommend this highly enough. This one will get inside your flesh and stay with you like the most brutally emotional haunting. Mind tags as always.

A Flower by Any other name. - Chapter Six: Memories don’t sing, they just scream in tune.

A.N: I am sorry this took so long, I have entirely too many excuses, but anyways, this might just be one of my favorite chapters so far, and uh, kudos to Jester, because they are the only reason I managed to end my writer's block, enjoy.

Reminder: Aster uses he/him pronouns!! You can exchange his name if you want and i won’t mind, and also this isn’t beta’d at all because I have no friends in the LOZ fandom that I would ask to beta this thing.

Disclaimer: I don’t own The legend of zelda (gods I wish), the linked universe au or any of the franchises and works I may reference in this fic, this is a work for fans by fans and all credits go to the respective owners.

Summary: A compilation of moments saved into permanent memories in the upcoming weeks towards Aster's seventeenth birthday and the upcoming fall of hyrule.

Word Count: 2250

Warnings: Implied death at the end of the chapter.

“You know you are not immortal right?” 

Aster received nothing but a slightly pained ‘hm’ as he tightened the bandages around Link’s arm, the gauze underneath undoubtedly already carrying red spots from covering up the hero’s wound.

In truth, Aster actually felt a bit guilty, it had been his idea to go out that day to check out the surrounding areas to what soon would house the woodland stable, He was curious, in all sixteen and some years of life he’d been in Hyrule he’d never really been allowed as much freedom to explore the land as he was now.

It was just also very unfortunate that where both of them went trouble followed.

“That should do it for now, but you should be more careful Hero,” Aster said as he put away the handy little first aid kit back on his bag, “as of lately, monsters keep growing stronger, and if you keep fighting recklessly then soon there’ll be no one to fight them anymore.”

Well, not that Link being careful would change things much, Aster thought while looking at the hero rise to stand by his side, looking at the scenery beyond the cliff while Aster himself could only look backwards to the many monster corpses,

Still, I’d rather see him healthy for now

“Come on hero, let’s keep moving”

If there was ever something Aster was thankful for in his old life, was that, the climate was at least forecasted, in Hyrule however, there was no such guarantee, and while Deya village was certainly close enough to walk any other day, it was still a slippery way down and apparently Link was not planning on letting him anywhere close enough to the path to continue. 

Although, it wasn’t like it was a bad situation or anything, it just brought Aster sense of deja-vu to see Link train with the sword while he was kept mostly dry under a tree, he remembered this location of course, Deya Lake and the Hylia River, with the two weird looking statues under a big tree, it had been one of his favorite places to take pictures in-game.

And, if he remembered correctly, it had also been the place of one of the memories Link would eventually obtain.

Even now, if he looked long enough at Link he could see the visage of the lonely hero a century later, a burned scarred one with long hair he had patiently modded into the game so that he looked accurate to a comic he was reading at the time, Aster wondered sometimes if Link would look like that when he was brought back from the shrine, or if he’d be a perfect reflection of the blank canvas of the original game model.

Looking at Link did also bring more things to his mind though, like how the sword almost shone under the darkness of the cloudy day, or even how the rehearsed steps he made now out of practice would one day become instinct.

“It’s a funny thing, isn’t it? Fate,” he spoke to rain, though it might have been at Link, who was admittedly keeping an ear open to the prince, “Do you ever think about it hero? To be born with a duty we supposedly did, destined to fight a great calamity that might otherwise destroy our very world.”

Aster wouldn’t have noticed it, but he spoke in a knowing tone, like every single one of his words had already happened, it had to him at least, but Link did, he had begun to notice many things nowadays, enough to stop his training to fully listen.

The prince didn’t look back at him, face half hidden in his knees, looking to the distance, “Have you ever wondered Link,” he began the question, not noticing how easily the name had slipped from his mouth after years without saying it “What would it be like to someone else? To be a cook, or a gardener, an artist, being able to live out our lives without having to worry about fate or destiny? Knowing that our biggest struggle is deciding what to have for dinner.”

Aster’s tone spoke of longing, he’d once had it all, a peaceful life, a caring family, a perfectly placed workplace to go to in the mornings, even a pair of dogs to keep him company in the colder days, and now, now he was a prince, blessed with a castle and riches that weren’t his and in a body that didn’t belong to him, fated to lose everyone he had grown endeared with in exchange of keeping the darkness this world was cursed with at bay.

Link, for his part, had looked at Aster when he’d fallen silent, finding the prince to be barely containing tears and holding himself into a small ball, almost like a snail trying to hide in its shell.

But he said nothing, and simply put a cloak over the prince before looking back into the sky.

The rain didn’t seem to be ending any time soon.

For what it was worth, Aster was impressed by the guardians, sure his context for them was as enemies rather than allies and he knew full well it was a matter of time before everyone else realized that.

In the meantime however, he is willing to just stare sadly at the scientists taking care of the machines while he passes by the bridge overseeing the testing area, of all the people in the castle, Aster has no doubt these were, no, rather, they will be the first casualties, and he can do barely more than mourn them in life, the same way he mourns the champions. 

And if the way Link suddenly rushes them both to the other door is any hint, perhaps, someone else has started to feel the ghost of the future too.

He prays that night, in a storage room turned temple that people often use for worship of the goddesses,  in his past life he could almost call it a small scale church like the one his grandparents too him to when they visited them as a child, this one doesn’t have stained glass or statues of saints with badly done paint.

There is however, in the far corner of the room, a statue of the goddess, it looks like all the others, but he’s not picky, and lately, he’d been coming much more often than before, kneeling in the dark of the night as Link waits outside of the door.

It stares at him, first in the way everyone feels stared at in museums by paintings and statues, and then in a way that can only be defined as expecting, he stares back in his kneeling position, he knows she’ll listen, but the gaze still feels judgemental regardless.

He prays that night for all the people that will be lost in the weeks that follow, for all that may survive but find no home to take them in, he prays for a soldier in Hateno who will never return, even for the champion who despite their best efforts have managed to worm themselves further into his heart, ultimately he prays for a small family in Deya that will lose a brother and a kingdom in one fell swoop less than a month from now.

But he whispers his prayers and by the time Link escorts him back to his room, he remains none the wiser to the fate of his family, much to the guilt of the prince by his side that can almost feel the gaze of the goddess on his back.

Not for the first time Aster was found in the garden, indeed it would be more rare if Link didn’t find him there nowadays, caring for plants and books, it was tradition almost.

But, it was different this time, if not for the guard, certainly for the prince, this might not be the first time in the garden reminiscing of the dead queen Zelda while caring for her rose bushes, but it would certainly be the last.

There was no hope in Aster’s mind, nor heart, that one day he would come back to this self-sacred place, a hundred years from now it would all have fallen away, to rot, rust, age or malice, leaving nothing but memories of a beautiful garden behind.

But that didn’t mean all had to disappear, not completely, memories would last him long but not others, in their stead, the tiny metal box in his lap would carry them, tiny bags of seeds and dried flowers, leaves, even roots, rocks that he’d studied and the notebooks carrying his investigations, small bottles tagged with poisonous names and descriptions, even letters made their way in.

A hundred years from now all the people who had aided his studies would be dead and gone, the memories of their lives all but erased from history, so it fell to him instead to make sure that one day their words and thoughts came back out of the dirt like the plants they studied.

And it fell to him that the world knew just how beautiful his mother’s roses had been.

Aster left the garden that night, a metal box on his knight’s arms ready to be packed away with the rest of his things for the pilgrimage to mt lanayru, a week long trip that at the end of the king hoped to announce him properly as having finished his studies of faith and open his first season of marriage candidacy.

A true pity of a plan, because as fate would come to be, Aster never set foot on the garden, nor the proper palace again in the king’s lifetime.

It’s not as far now, than it used to be, Mt Lanaryu looms on the distance by the time they decide to take a break, more for the horses than for him or Link, there is a fountain nearby and plenty of shadow in the meantime, less than a proper week from now, they’ll be up in the mountain and barely hours after that the calamity will come down.

And, it would be a lie to say that Aster hasn’t begun mourning already, even now, in the peace of the night he cannot mutter anything less than a brief “thanks” when Link serves him a bowl of stew, it’s warm, and flavorful, absolutely delicious and yet he cannot enjoy it properly.

Link notices, he knows Link notices, but he can’t help the sobs that escape him later on in his bedroll, in the end, even after almost two years of close to no contact beyond that of a knight and a prince, Link had been there to hold him through the silent crying that shook him that night, with no question asked that night nor the morning after.

Even in the early afternoon he remained quiet while the horses were packed back up, not even once questioning the fact the prince had buried a small box under the earth close to the statue, much deeper than anything that was meant to be found, for preservation.

And if Aster looked even more mournful by the time they left than when they arrived, well, Link didn’t question it either beyond offering a handkerchief and moving just a bit faster with epona to give the prince a chance to gain his composure back.

It would only take four more days to get to the mountain, and less than one to make camp. The morning after it, the prince woke up aged 17 rather than 16, and he climbed before the sun even came out, and there they stayed, 18 hours to the minute.

By the time they climbed back down, ceremonial robes instead of his daily clothes, Aster looked nothing short of sorrowful to the champions, even Link seemed on edge by his side, and though the champions had tried their best to reassure them, for they had assumed the pilgrimage had been of no use.

In return, Aster looks at them, the four champions in front of him, and with specks of gold against his blue eyes, he apologizes, there, in that clearing in front of the mountain and close to the sunset, Aster’s words are echoed by the sound of faraway rumbling that interrupts the confusion the champions felt towards his words.

But it’s too late now, even from a distance, they can all see how Hyrule Castle falls to the calamity, how the beast awakens and rises from the shadows that envelope the once home of the royal family, and soon prison of the prince besides them, in the meantime, Aster looks at their faces instead as they turn back to him to hurriedly say their goodbyes before rushing towards the divine beasts.

And as Link takes his hand and rushes them to the horses only to find they’ve run away, all they can think of is the fact this is the last time he’ll ever see the champions' faces.

Not even an hour after nightfall they see it, the lights on the divine beasts flash on the distance in a pattern they can only recognize as SOS before they are overtaken with utter and complete malice pink, Ruta goes down first, and after Rudania is soon to follow, Nabooris lasts only a few minutes longer, and in the end Medoh is the last to fall, the light pattern almost rushed to finish before the pink overtakes it.

Hyrule has fallen.

A phenomenal ABO story where Kagome is going through heat, and she needs an alpha to help her out. Cue the sexiest wolf demon alpha she can think of; it also has one of Fawnie’s favorite lines ever in a fic.

Kagome is a tattoo artist, and Kōga owns the flower shop across the street. She’s totally not just going there for inspiration for her art, and he’s totally not just giving her flowers that are leftovers. Oh my goodness, this story is absolutely adorable.

It was hard to choose just one story by Monophobian, so you are getting a series! Sango convinces Kagome to wear a cute bikini, Kōga goes gaga, and then cue lots of sexy banter and romance.

A retelling where Ginta, Hakkaku, and Kōga find an injured Kagome, and pieces of the Shikon jewel, and Kōga cannot help but be drawn to this mysterious, beautiful woman who seems out of time.

Canon-divergent where after a daring rescue, Kōga and Kagome have amnesia, and can only remember that they know each other...somehow. But when confronted with villagers who are angry about them sharing a bed when they are unmarried, Kagome tells a white lie that protects both her and Kōga. And brings them closer together.

When Inuyasha breaks things off with Kagome on their wedding day, she tries to do the unthinkable, only to be rescued by the man whose heart has always belonged to her, and who, deep down, she loves, with all her heart. A fun Feudal AU with lots of action and adventure! When Kōga hears that there is a mysterious force protecting the tribes of the North from the Birds of Paradise, while his own Eastern tribe is being decimated. He vows to find that power, and bring it back to his own lands. He just didn’t think that it would be a feisty priestess named Kagome.
