I keep think about Jason who had a huge possessive crush on dick as a kid (first as Robin, then Nightwing, then Grayson once bruce adopts him and he finds out the face behind the masks).

Cue him blushing like crazy whenever he’s in the same room as Dick, and Grayson just thinking he’s a really shy and sweet kid

Fast forward to red hood coming back with a bang and running Nightwing who starts FLIRTING with him mid fight and oh my god oh my god oh my god

Dick clocking that Red Hood = Jason based solely on how Red Hood flusters when Dick flirts with him.

Jason has no opportunity to be a baddie because Dick would recognize this sweet maiden anywhere and Jason is baffled by it.

Seriously, they're fighting and Dick says something cheeky/flirty and Jason's reaction is to duck his head - his cheek pressed towards his shoulder in bashfulness and that's all Dick needs.

Or rather, Dick doesn't know, but it's familiar enough to feel like a sucker punch and leaves him choking out a strangled, 'Little Wing?'

And it's the way Jason's grip on him wavers, the way Jason flinches that confirms it.

Something something this happening after Jason has gotten Dick pinned to a wall, or laid out flat on his back with Jason hovering over him

And Jason tries to pull away but Dick holds fast to Jason's wrist. There's no seeing that pretty blush with the helmet, but Dick can feel Jason's pulse - how it races and skips and fuck, it's him.

Dick reaching out and getting a hand behind Jason's neck and pulling him down to Dick's chest and holding him there so that maybe Jason can hear how it's the same for Dick - how Dick's breath catches and his chest heaves and his heart breaks with joy and grief and gratefulness and-

The way Jason would be all fight up until he's held and mourned and celebrated and loved. The way he'd collapse into the fierceness of Dick's hug and curl up into that space so that he can be small and hurt and young again

I drew one of the scenes from the rp story @lychee-not-dead-yet and I have going on :3

Context: Dick leaves Jason's apartment in the morning to have business lunch with Bruce. This is the inmediate aftermath of the Under the Red Hood arc. Dick has helped Jason in secret, leaving him patched up in his apartment. Bruce does not know about this, he thinks Jason is missing. Dick rolls on with the deception.

So, Jason hands Dick some lothes of his own for him to change from his Nightwing gear. Dick takes everything offered except the boxers, leaving them behind in the ground on purpose before quitting the apartment. Dick asked Jason for his phone number before leaving, and Jason saved himself as contact on Dick's phone as 'chick'. While the Dynamic Duo is driving to the manor to have lunch, 'Chick' sends Dick the picture of the boxers he left behind. Bruce now thinks Dick spent the night sleeping with one of his flings, instead of mourning/looking for his missing brother lol

in prime earth canon, jason todd (NOT red hood) was* publicly known to be alive

considering that jason todd was the official owner of the iceberg lounge during this time, it's likely he acquired the lounge legally and thus can be inferred that he had to be declared legally alive to do so

which brings me to my point:

i've seen a lot of people writing/speculating the difficulties and limitations jason experiences bc he was declared legally dead after ethiopia, which is all well and good, and is fantastic fodder for angst

but i've been wondering if this was bc people are actively ignoring canon (valid) or simply didn't know that at one point* jason was publicly alive (also valid, bc following comics is a shitshow lol)

i haven't read a lot of other important runs like death metal (2020), three jokers (2020), robins (2021), etc. if jason (NOT red hood) was declared dead once again in any of those, that is the reason why i used "was" in the very first sentence of this post and reiterate that he was alive at least for a limited period

my bad that i missed his second legal death tho LOLLL

i'm also aware that red hood (NOT jason) was known as "dead" by others after task force z (even though he clearly didn't die). that said, in the little i've read of tj:tmwsl, it seems that 1) not everyone knows red hood is actually alive, and/or that 2) red hood died at all. again, if red hood is generally known to be alive after tfz, that's on me

Actually going insane over the implications of Jason asking Dick to be the Robin to his Batman in Battle for the Cowl.

Like I initially took it at the purely surface-level of Jason wanting a partner in the general sense. Which made sense, it's a huge responsibility and a lonely one so an assistant/sidekick/partner seems a no-brainer if you can get one.

But then I really thought about it, because Jason is not asking Dick to be his partner in the general sense; he's not even asking Dick to be his Nightwing. He's asking Dick to be his Robin.

And they both know exactly what Jason means: "Be the light to my darkness. Be the smile to my scowl. Be the hope to my fear. "

He's saying "Be 'Robin'; be the embodiment of Love and Justice and Goodness. Be the exceptional person that you have always been. Be the slightly-less exceptional person that I was when I wore your colors. Be the person that I was in the process of becoming and might have been (or might still be), if only Joker hadn't clipped my wings."

He's saying "I am prepared to become vengeance, become the Night. And I will go further than Bruce ever dared to, because it is what is needed. I will be the necessary evil. But you don't have to be. If Batman is Gotham's curse, Robin has always been its blessing. I will be the brutal punishment to our world, and I am asking you to be its incandescent gift."

He's saying, "Be for me, what we were for Him. Be my anchor, my comfort, my hope. Remind me what it's all for, why it's all worth it. And remind yourself as well."

He's saying "Be 'Robin' again--for both of our sakes."
