seriously i mean this for real, "Just- I haven't seen you smile in like 6 hours" is an underrated line, like. you don't say shit like that to someone you don't at least consider a friend i think?? and i feel like Tom vehemently hated hearing that someone would notice something like that and call him out on it. This, after weeks on end of him repeatedly pleading for Shiv to care he might be going to prison, and never finding out the things she did do to keep him safe, leaving him feel so absurdly unloved.

then Greg notices he hasn't smiled in hours and asks him why.

Tom insists he IS happy but reacts so poorly in the next couple minutes, and yet Greg never stops trying. when Tom brings it up again being like "wow gee Greg you really are happy what the fuck is up with that", Greg is like "Uh. Tom, we can both be happy?" and then Tom insists he can't because Greg ruined it by- what, talking about having a date with a girl? TOM! like. come on.

What does that say other than he's jealous of Greg, and maybe it's just at the idea that Greg might end up in a more functional relationship than his own, if not straight up jealous because he wants Greg romantically. i think, at the very least, he's upset that Greg's attention is being pulled from him.

Yet moments prior Greg just tried to ask how he was he basically tells him to fuck off, like, Tom. my darling? his attention was just on you and you rebuffed him, but you're pissed at him for talking about someone else.

the thing is, I do think Tom does recognize what he has in Greg and his own depth of feelings in return just........ scares the shit of out him. Especially in this scene and "you've ruined [my happiness]" like. Tom's damned if he does, damned if he doesn't when it comes to Greg. Can't see him be with other people, can't have him for himself.

Tom will never love shiv the way he really needs to love someone the way he’s been trained to love someone. He can’t for the same reason Logan couldn’t: he needs someone to castrate he needs to break someone and make them lose the literal ability to have penetrative sex and therefore lose the ability to metaphorically fuck business-wise. Shiv could fuck metaphorically from the start oh Pinky can dance alright but she’s not a boy she can’t fuck and she can’t get the ability to fuck taken away from her. Logan couldn’t castrate her (Roman) or groom her (Ken) so he couldn’t really love her. And when Tom fucks her by becoming Logan Jr that’s the closest he gets to castrating her and then their marriage becomes better and worse at the same time but with logan gone they’re flailing out because Tom castrated shiv but she’s still fucking she never learned how to not. Business and sex are different for shiv than they are for her brothers and her father and Tom she can have one without the other the others cant. Tom can’t love her the way tom wants to love her because he can’t suppress her the way he can suppress Greg. This is why nerosporus (tomgreg at their most nauseating and toxic) will always win and also why Shiv needs to realize she’s a lesbian and wield the world’s most volatile strap game

7. season 4 predictions? (/is it futile to even guess?)

it is not futile to even guess but i’ll probably be wrong. i want to believe that the failtrio will stick together because i think that would be narratively more compelling than one/two/all of them running back to logan. tomshiv won’t get divorced, they’ll just enter a premium version of their failmarriage but i feel like there will be some sort of a confrontation about the betrayal and that could maybe be a shiv breakdown scene? kendall reconciles with stewy (wishful thinking? i don’t care.). tom thinks he has become logan’s new candy baby but in reality logan does not care about tom enough for him to merit the candy baby status. a lot of cringe tomgreg scenes where they think they’re playing The Game soooo well but the truth might be different. they will scrap greg’s love life, save from tom of course. there will be more insane nerosporus stuff. roman will be having the worst time in his life after realizing logan doesn’t even want his love, he’ll consequently spend about three weeks in a blanket cocoon (probably not going to happen but i feel like he needs that). tabitha comes back to be a supportive bestie. in a perfect world roman and gerri would both be semi-functional adults and talk through everything that happened but because i already spent the entire s3 whispering “please just talk to each other oh my god” at those freaks i feel like that’s not going to happen. i desperately want gerri to abandon team logan but i think that’ll only happen if her position is in danger in the upcoming gojo deal. oh i also want more gojo, it would literally make no sense to abandon that storyline now so bring back matsson.

this mostly turned into what i want to happen in s4 but oh well. i guess we’ll see next year what really happens <3

i have a lot of thoughts while watching the nero-sporus scene but i didnt take note so here we go, some idea i can still remember lol

first, they’re wearing the exact same striped dress shirt

the way tom telling the story after talking to greg about *greg getting a magical castle*, it’s like he wanted to remind greg that he is still the emperor nero and greg is still his slave boi

also the fact that he (and the writers) chose the story that nero killed his wife instead of another version (his wife died from childbirth and nero used sporus to cope), i feel like they really wants to show that tom is this 👌 close to gone girl shiv right now. he looked so tired, so *i want a divorce* lol (i was even surprised to see him wearing wedding band this ep tbh)

“I’d castrate you and marry you in a heartbeat” ,,,do i even need to explain😭 it’s like tom saying he’d rather be with greg than anyone else in this situation (whether bc he thinks he can still control greg or whatever, *it’s complicated). it’s the closest thing we ever have to tom’s love confession and coming out.

then greg responded with a silly rabbit smile, thinking it was a flirtatious joke as always before he slowly realized that ‘no this is not a joke. tom is dead serious,,, shit’. he felt it. he felt something’s cooking and he was WAITING FOR IT. he even ASKED TOM FOR IT.

but then tom immediately turned to wrestling (very intricate ritual) imo it’s like his first instinct after saying something that is NOT STRAIGHT AT ALL is to conceal it with toxic masculinity, violence, anger. it reminds me of water bottle scene last season,,, internalized homophobia.

this made the next part even more heartbreaking

greg: i don’t wanna do it.

tom: *after mocking him* NEITHER DO I, GREG.

tom also doesn’t want to do it, but do what? bc there’s so many things he didn’t wanna do right now. i feel like this sentence was more of a general statement to everything he’d told before.

he doesn’t wanna go to jail.

he doesn’t wanna castrate and marry greg (= he doesn’t want his homosexuality, more equal power dynamic… not really but i hope u get the point lol)

BUT he also doesn’t wanna start this wrestling fight (= he doesn’t want to conceal his homosexuality, have power, dominance, anger)

and yet he still ended this exchange with more angry talk of business and executive blah blah blab. there’s A LOT to unpack here. tom is having a BIG big gay crisis.

well my main take away so far having caught up with s4 is that while i do have some mixed feelings about it, generally i feel pretty positive about it. i do like it a lot. i still favour s3 atm at least, though there are a couple of episodes in 4 that rival that, but in terms of tomgreg nerosporus stuff. it looked pretty good. i mean obviously what with the firing stuff, i get the scare. but like. i dunno i feel pretty good about them. they definitely were sticking together throughout and strategizing and were a pretty strong team, they’re holding up the promise they made at the end of s3. i think the issue with ppl feeling like it was dropped is bc a. their dynamic changed so they’re on a lot more even footing and thus their scenes were a lot less intense and lot more subtle, perhaps to mirror the fact that they are working in the shadows together and b. ppl couldn’t watch the episodes in a bunch like i got to, so it felt like less. so i get it. but i don’t think there’s much to worry about apart from what will happen if and when greg has to fire tom.

but like. idk. i kind of want it and kind of don’t. perhaps if it does happen it’ll encourage tom to stand up for himself finally. or maybe greg will forewarn him and say he doesn’t wanna do it. perhaps like nero when the state declared him an enemy and he was gonna commit suicide, he’ll be afraid to do it alone so he asks greg to quit and he’ll quit too. they’ll both leave. i dunno. i wouldn’t want it to just like. happen and it’s a betrayal from greg bc that would be boring asf. while any of the former would be nice, personally i wanna see tom POP the fuck off bc it’s about fucking time. greg said that matsson underestimated him and he shouldn’t do that. tom and greg nero and sporus let’s fucking gooooo burn it the fuck DOWN

rewatching the nero/sporus scene for the five billionth time: it was just so,,, out of nowhere? what made tom start telling the story???

they were talking about parks and greg replied with “maybe it won’t work… etc.” like he was talking about his deal which the audience including me during the first few watches (and probably tom himself too) was likely to interpret as ‘oh he doesn’t care about tom living in a dungeon he cares about his own future’

and that’s probably why tom told the sporus story? asserting power he still has left or whatever,,, i guess

but then,, look closer,, when tom mentioned prison greg shook his head or chuckled every time, like he tried to cool him down and brushed the idea off of tom, using laugh and smile as a coping mechanism i know that well it’s literally my country’s basic etiquette 101. still these gestures were so vague and subtle tom, who was very deep in his own thought, probably didn’t even acknowledge it
