KNOWING THE DIFFERENCE
Summary: Yo-yo's sister gets dragged into the Three Stooges mess when they come to her grandma house running from trouble.
Tumblr media
Yo yo was trippin. That's the only way Ressee could describe her sister in this moment. She was pacing the floor in worry over where Fontaine went. Because he had dipped out while everyone was sleep.
"Calm down, I'm sure he's fine." Ressee tried to reassure her sister.
"Do not tell me to calm down right now." Yo yo warned. "They could've got to him."
Ressee looked over to Slick Charles to see him silently agreeing.
"We talking about the underground lab people?"
"Yes." Slick and Yo said in unison.
"Why are they after him?" Just as she was asking the question a knock came from the door.
The three sat there looking. The knocking came again, but this time with a voice.
"Yo yo, y'all in there?"
Ressee watched as her sister let out a sigh of relief at Fontaine's gruff voice. She quickly went to the door to let him in, quickly pulling him through the door. With a quick look outside she slammed the door shut.
"This shit is so fucked up y'all. Everything's gone." He grumbled when Yo yo came back to the kitchen.
"What you mean?" Slick asked. Everyone sat quietly as Fontaine explained how him and his homeboys went back to the underground lab, only to find out that it was gone.
No elevator.
Nothing.
Slick and Yo yo went into a frenzy.
A lot of yelling happened. Some 'what the fucks' and 'maybe we were high' went around as the three relied to figure out what was going on. Ressee just sat quietly as it all happened.
Because, frankly, she was still confused. She had no idea what was going on or what to do. So she just watched as it all played out.
"Wait, wait, y'all think about it. This what them secret government niggas do. They make shit disappear."
"Yea yea that's true. " Slick agreed with Yo yo.
Resse figured if this underground lab was real and was cleaned up by the government then another one must be around somewhere.
"Well they gotta have another one somewhere, right? I doubt they just had one 'round this mfer."
All three looked over at the girl.
"You right, sis. My girl Nancy, would've said the same thing."
Part 3 coming next
But ngl..I'm still tryna figure out where the hell I'm going with this story 💀

Though I've been enjoying Letterbox lately, I've really missed posting the movies I had recently watched on Tumblr. This one just saw it a couple hours ago, it was surprisingly funny, though I didn't like how they portrayed femeninity in such an evil and lame way. Overall, a good chic flick to spend the night ✨

Layering to perfection- we went “undercover” with The Pale Blue Eye, making many bespoke petticoats for the film. Each one contained a full ruffle petticoat inside to get the proper shaping for their dresses. #periodcorsetsundercover #thepaleblueeye #netflixmovie #gilliananderson #historicalcostuming #historicalcostume #historicalfashion #moviecostumes #petticoat #historicalsilhouette #charlottegainsbourg #hadleyrobinson (at Seattle, Washington) https://www.instagram.com/p/CoGBnOsSgCi/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I watched Carrie Pilby on Netflix one day just very randomly. I liked it and I forgot about it until sometime back something reminded me of the movie and I watched it again. This time I loved it. I loved the winter, Christmassy aesthetics of the movie, the color palette of the film (some frames were very Pinteresty), and more than anything I loved the highly intelligent, quirky, sometimes cynical, and freakishly relatable Carrie Pilby.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So naturally after the movie ended I went online to see if anyone else shared the same love for the movie as I did. Unfortunately not many forum threads on it but I did find an hour-long interview of the original author. (which I still need to finish watching)
Let's dive into the book now. I read the book after watching the movie. I loved Bell Powley as Carrie and I wanted to know more about Carrie and her personality so I read the book and oh god was it good. I loved Carrie even more now. The movie is not exactly the same. They're quite different. Below I'll be talking about book vs movie so brace yourself for spoilers ahead!
The book was written by Caren Lissner and published in 2003 which was also her debut novel. The movie came out in 2017.
I love Carrie, the vibe of her apartment, cozy winter days, and her cheeky personality.
I love the book. It's hilarious. Carrie is hilarious. Her worldview and her opinions, her funny way of describing people all make for a hilarious read. But I was really surprised as to how different a lot of things were from the movie. Her and Ronald? I thought she thought he was not her type and a bit slow. I never expected he'd be the one she'd choose for the "she cares" part of the list. I felt it should've been Kara or her Dad. I understand Cy was too new for the "care" part but Ronald?? Like there's zero emotional connection there. She likes him cuz she sees him frequently? I dunno.
Something different in the book is that Cy is not really "in frame" for most of the book, unlike the movie. The movie is more of a girl meets boy which I felt they shouldn't have gone for considering Carrie and her quirky personality but more about that later. Unlike the movie, she doesn't end up with Cy in the book, or at least it's not implied.
My favorite character after Carrie is definitely Kara. There is so much, I mean so much stuff with Kara in the book. I don't know why the movie didn't explore the parts of Carrie's asexuality and the dynamic between Kara and Carrie. I feel like there should be a mini-series with book book-accurate story where they explore the sexuality part, Kara and Carrie's relationship, and a lot more of Carrie's personality.
One more thing that I felt the movie could've included was the smart and savvy nature of Carrie. I loved all the parts of her proofreading job especially the one where she takes two pages from different bundles and puts them on each other and up to the light to check for mistakes. That's Carrie! That's what separates her from the others. There are several more bits like these about her personality in the book that weren't in the movie like how she talks to the telemarketers on the phone, her movie lists, and how she has a constant urge to look up new words in her dictionary which I do a lot too and the whole bit with the couple in the window, her nerdy self, how much she enjoys shopping at stationery stores(I do too!). There were so many more quirky little things like these that made me go "I do that too", "This is so me".
The movie focused more on Cy and Carrie and then on Carrie and the professor. The professor parts were really toned down in the movie. When I read those parts in the book I just wanted to finish that chapter as soon as possible and I always skip it on my re-reads. I was really bummed they tossed like 90% of Kara's scenes from book to movie adaptation.
All in all, I absolutely loved the book a lot more. Carrie is someone I definitely want to be friends with (although I'm very skeptical if she does).
The book and the movie both have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year vibe going which I love the most. It's certainly an addition to the list of my favorite books. Thank you, Caren Lissner.

The Luckiest Girl Alive Review!
I definitely am late to the party on this book since it’s already a movie, but The Luckiest Girl Alive review has been on list for so long! I’ve committed to 50 books again this year and this was book 3 for me. I actually didn’t previously watch the movie not because I wanted to spoil the book but I honestly was super interested in it. It didn’t look really great to me but I am definitely going…

Flavors of Youth
(Anime Movie)
It's basically 3 short stories rolled into one (like literally, you could watch one story and not know it's part of the three) with every individual story encapturing the beauty of childhood, youth, and dreams. All of it was really cute and well, short. When the movie ended I stared at the end credits for a hot minute and whispered, "What? That's it? Whaaaat?". Mildly baffled but skipped for a bit to see the end credits scene (yes there's an end credits scene. don't forget about that!).
Story wise, it was okay 👌 But the animation was perfection. The landscapes and everyday objects tell a story of their own and I love that. It made me miss a place I've never been in and a time I've never lived.
!SPOILER RANT!
I was kinda expecting the 3 stories to be tied up in the end in some elegant grandeur. Like for them to be all connected or whatever. For example, some of them might be friends from college or maybe a HS classmate I dunno. Cliché I know, but there's a reason why it works and don't ask me what it is, Christine just go with it.
And yes they were all boarding the same plane somewhere, and maybe that was it, just a bunch of individual people from different parts of China (or the world) with different lives, different stories but journeying in the same direction (ooohh, deep). And you know I get that but the end still felt flat for me. It lacks some oomph feeling. Or an, "Aha!" feeling.
But hey it was cute, the animation is ugh *chef's kiss. Especially the animation of San Xian noodles? Perfection. I watched this at 9 PM and let me tell you it was slow torture.

So here's something I noticed in They Cloned Tyrone: Everytime Fontaine goes to the gas station he gets scratch offs. And each time he does it he gets the 'you lose'. Then he scratches off all the little circles and they each say the same thing. To me this was just a representation of how the system is against him ( and in extention black people.)
Like the "game" wasnt designed for us to win. Ad long as the system stays how it is we will forever be delt the losing hand. Unless of course we work twice as hard and twice as long as our white counter parts.
I'm not trying to offend anyone BTW, just stating facts.
Anyway I just wanted to say that.. now time to write a fanfic😊

Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe
I had barely seen half an hour of @blondethefilm before I knew I wanted to draw her.
The film still haunted me a few days later and it's sad that some people don't understand it.
The reviews give me the impression that the dazzling image most have of Marilyn (and old Hollywood) has now cracked and is difficult for them to deal with ... Not to mention that it's not a biopic.
I definitely want to draw the real Marilyn, too 🖤

Francis Lawrence Joins Netflix’s BioShock Movie Adaptation
Netflix’s live-action BioShock movie gets a director and a writer. In February of this year, Netflix announced they would be making a live-action film adaptation of BioShock. The game series began in 2007 and has had 2 sequels since then. BioShock is an RPG based first-person shooter that tells an immersive story in a “steampunk” type underwater world. Though the original game takes place in the 1960s, they have semi-futuristic weapons and devices throughout the game.
The 2007 game BioShock centers around Jack who discovers the underwater city known as Rapture. The underwater city was built by business magnate Andrew Ryan, who created the city as his own personal utopia. Thanks to a biological material named ADAM that grants people superhuman powers, Rapture quickly falls into decline. Jack tries to escape the city but runs into ADAM infected people left and right. Jack is able to fend off his attackers using a myriad of weapons, special abilities and devices. The game was critically acclaimed and quickly became a fan favorite. Bioshock has released 3 titles, all of which expand the world and invent new twists to enthrall fans.
Thanks to a tweet from Netflix’s official account, we know that Bioshock has found its director in Francis Lawrence, who is best known for his work on I Am Legend and Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
