This is a random post but I just want to say to all the Zane enjoyers/robot enjoyers in general over here that if you haven’t heard of them, you should absolutely check out the murderbot diaries by Martha Wells. It’s a series of sci-fi novellas with one full-length novel later on (and a second coming out soon!) and the main character is a not-quite-robot-not-quite-human construct who named itself Murderbot (except don't call it that, the name is for personal use only). It hacked the governor module that controls most of its actions so that it could have free will and instead of leaving its shitty job that it hates after doing this, it keeps doing its job but better (because it has free will now) while also consuming thousands upon thousands of hours of media. There's tons of interesting stuff just about what the consequences of being a robot with a fairly human-like brain are, especially when you've spent most of your life without free will. The series as a whole deals a lot with MB trying to figure out how to navigate the world when everybody either sees it as an object or as completely human when in reality it's neither of those things. It's about the horrors of capitalism and the wonders of found family and the mortifying ordeal of being known and cared for. MB is canonically aroace and agender and also pretty autistic-coded, imo, but this really isn't a series that falls into the "emotionless robot" trope, MB has so many feelings and emotions and also tends to instinctively collect vulnerable humans who need its help. In book two it accidentally befriends a massive hyper-intelligent spaceship that it nicknames "Asshole Research Transport" and despite the name, they are absolutely best friends and they primarily bond through watching terrible space soap operas together. The books are also fantastically written and have some of the funniest dry-humor narration I've ever read. Here are the first lines from All Systems Red, the first novella in the series (via shitty kindle photo lol sorry):

Fair warning that's probably obvious even from these lines that it's the type of book that sort of just throws you into the world and expects you to figure things out as you go, but they really are amazing books that I can't recommend enough (hence me making this post on my ninjago sideblog lmao) and if you get the opportunity you should absolutely check them out!
