You are the one I’d come looking for. Over and over and over again
Tumblr media
A/N: I am SO sorry for this but I can’t believe I’ve never seen a fanfic like this so I took it upon myself to write it. No beta reading or editing. We die like..nevermind
TW: angst, hurt and comfort, leprosy? No one is dying!!
People had thought her foolish for longer than she could think.
A pretty, young maiden from a good house, wealthy parents with political influence others could only dream of and yet she had chosen to marry a leper.
The king of Jerusalem was well known around nobility for more than just that of course, having won the battle of Montgisard against the Arabs at such young age seemed like a miracle from God above.
Even before that she had been by his side and it was not the fortunes, glory or status that had interested her which would no doubt be beneficial side effects of being married to him.
No young woman in her right mind would have willingly accepted the hand of a man doomed and she could hardly blame them.
Her parents had approved of the marriage as their hands were bound, depending on trade offers and the generosity of the holy land for their own existence.
Even then, when the letter from the court of Jerusalem had arrived they had been worried about the future of their darling girl.
Everyone had been, even nobility from far away and the news of King Baldwins marriage had spread quickly and then the whispering began.
She had never been bothered by the likes of them, faithful to her new husband who treated her with utmost care, she had everything she could have ever asked for and more.
He was a good man, gentle and wise for his age and he was grateful she had accepted his hand in marriage, he would have been a fool to not treat her well.
To him it was more than a political match propagating his strength to the outside kingdoms and his own.
To him this young woman was home, acceptance and love.
Despite all this their marriage was a slightly unusual one.
They had never been able to kiss nor were they able to consummate the marriage in a way deemed proper, the king refusing to risk contagion and his physicians agreed with him.
Despite all this she had never minded the lack of physicality in their marriage all that much.
She cared about him in a way that was beyond desires of the flesh, what they shared came close to holiness.
They talked a lot, shared poems and stories when she would caress his bandaged hands.
She would spend the late evenings in their shared chambers, after a tremendous amount of convincing, finally applying ointments to his sore, blistered skin to help it slow the spreading.
She would caress his bare back with fingers gentle as if she feared he would disappear into thin air, like a vision or a daydream, is she dared touching him too firmly.
In their eyes those sacred moments were almost enough but of course even the fate of the most pure could be harsh more often than not.
It started with a pale rash on her side, right over her ribs.
At first she had been sure it had come from spending too much time in the stables, perhaps she had been bitten by an insect.
Then one night when she had just finished brushing her hair before going to bed she noticed the tingling numbness in her fingers and feet.
It started slowly, like tiny ants crawling over her skin, not painful but the recognition was and she could feel her heart drop.
Though it wasn’t herself she feared for.
Baldwin let his best physicians be called to their shared chambers immediately.
After the three men had taken a look at her, whispering in a foreign language with their eyes drooped with worry and told them how deeply sorry they were the young king wished for his instant death.
He had always had a hard time being kind to himself, never to others but the wave of agony that rolled over him threatened to swallow him whole, burning like a demonic fury.
Her own eyes brimmed with tears and she sat up after the physicians had left, so frightened for her husband who was now sitting on the edge of the bed, his masked face buried in his hands with his shoulders trembling.
There was no use denying that she had caught the disease.
It was only a matter of time, she is playing with fire, others had whispered behind her back when they thought she wasn’t listening.
“Baldwin..” crawling up on the bed right behind him she wrapped her arms around his shoulders.
The gesture that had comforted him even in his worst moments now seemed to shatter his heart even more so.
“I have been so foolish..my beautiful, beautiful angel” he whispered, his voice dying in his throat and when he raised his head his eyes were flooded with tears.
He was trembling as he spoke and she was frightened as he nearly seemed mad with grief.
“You should have never come here..I should have never asked anyone, you, to put themselves in danger for my foolishness. If the Lord wants to punish me so be it but why would he wish to punish you of all people? When it was I who was selfish?”
She only noticed that she too was crying when she tasted the salt on her lips, wiping it with shaking fingers.
“Do not say such things..you are not selfish, nor foolish. It was I who made the decision to accept the offer to marry you with the pain and dangers that I was warned of. And I swear to you that even now I do not regret our vows, a single day or night we spent together”
Reaching out for him he cupped his cheek, a pained smile gracing her features in the soft candle light of his chambers.
“Please do not blame yourself my love. I am not scared of my fate but I am scared of losing you, whether it be to grief or shame. I beg of you, don’t leave me now”
There had never been a moment where Baldwin had to fight against contempt for himself as in this very moment.
He disdained himself for causing her to share his fate when he should have been the one to be level headed, keeping a distance for her own safety when in reality he was the one searching for her warmth like a frightened little boy.
Now there was no use avoiding her, he recognised with bitterness seeping like pus from an open wound.
Now it was too late, the die had been cast but all words of comfort, an apology he could have offered her seemed to be worthless now and he knew this sweet, innocent girl would not hear it.
How wonderfully stubborn she could be sometimes, with too much love to give and headstrong to a point where it was almost unbecoming for a woman but he wouldn’t have it any differently.
“Come now” she murmured, shuffling on the bed to slip underneath the covers.
The silken sheets were cool against her skin and a part of her wondered for how long she would be able to feel them at all.
She pulled him in as she did every night since they had exchanged their vows, his head resting against her shoulder and she caressed his soft hair soothingly.
“The promise of God is not that He will never give us more weight than we want to carry. The promise of God is that He will never put more on us than we can bear.”
Her voice was so soft as she spoke, without a tremor and she was not scared anymore.
Not for herself nor for him, not when God was watching over them, not when her love for him burned stronger than ever and she could feel his heart beating, so alive and warm in his chest.
“Let us not waste the precious time we have..not a second”
This was something the young king could not disagree with and how eager he was for her comfort if that meant to comfort her.
Now he had to be strong for her sake when she needed him now more than ever before, and she was right.
The promise of God is that He will never put more on us than we can bear, no matter how heavy the burden can be in the darkest times.
He shuddered when he felt her gentle fingers sliding the silver mask off his face as she had done many times before but something about it now felt different.
His eyes were wide, still glossy and red, his face scarred severely but she could only see the man she loved more than anyone or anything.
They looked at each other for what felt like hours, the fingers of one hand entwined, the other on each others cheek, stroking over skin, gently brushing a strand of hair behind one’s ear.
She was the one to lean in first and to him the feeling of her soft lips on his, for the first time ever felt like he was being reborn.
The kiss was clumsy with inexperience but it could not have been more raw and honest.
She kissed him like she didn’t care about his disfigured lips and he kissed her like it was the last thing he would ever do.
Both of them kissed like they had been starving for this and now there was nothing left to lose and by the end of the kiss both of them were crying.
A soft sob rose in his chest, fading into a huffed out laugh and he seemed drunk with fondness for her.
She only smiled, wiping his tears as he wiped hers before leaning in again to kiss her warm, soft lips once more with more urgency this time, in disbelief that he would get to experience something like this after all.
Something that made him feel less alone, more like any normal young man instead.
A wave of warmth flooded him when he felt a small, soft hand slip underneath his nightgown, resting on his bare stomach and when he pulled away from the kiss, his cheeks flushed he recognised the desire in her eyes.
Honest and playful as she was and despite his nervously racing heart he gave her the most timid nod.
There was no fear within either of them now, uncertainty perhaps and pain surely, worry about what the future might bring but they had each other after all.
Each other and a life time left to love, however long that might be.

503 spoilers + theories edited
So it was just a translation error, they're not cousins. I need to know why Danny's gramdma hates jinyoung. Did something happen to Daniel's dad that involved Jinyoung? Or maybe it was charles as usual? Did Charles also try to kill/harm Jinyoung reporter Kim, she clearly seems to hate him(completely valid)?
Tumblr media
Damn, he just keeps suffering.
Tumblr media
Tbh. This isn't proper evidence, I feel like ptj is just rushing this. And it is a little suspicious that Daniel doesn't remember jinyoung.
Tumblr media
I was right once again.
Tumblr media
I hope vin gets revenge on all these hoes
Tumblr media
She's going to die. Ptj's gonna kill her off like he does to all good parental figures.
There could be a possibility that, just like gun now, the previous head of the yamazaki clan also worked for charles. I mean, we see him fighting Jinyoung's men, and we know that at one point, Jinyoung and charles became enemies.
Tumblr media
Bruh, how did he get taller. This means he's going to have a rough history with charles and is possibly a fighter too. Past Steve Hong coming up soon.
How does he know Heather's mom, though?
Tumblr media
Is she trying to get custody of Yenna, i hope not.
Heather stayed with Hostel for so long because she felt suffocated around her mother. She didn't tell her about the pregnancy out of fear of what would happen to her and eli. This woman really isolated her daughter from everyone. I swear Asian parents will do anything but take accountability. I mean, yes, I love blaming charles for everything, but in this case, it wasn't just him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Miss Ma'am, where is your seat belt?
Tumblr media
Should've known. Gun is like an urban legend, I swear. "If it is raining, the white demon is nearby."
There might be a slight chance that Daniel also is not carrying the red paper with him. He might have predicted this and given it to vin or someone else from Allied.

Botw/Totk headcanon: Sheikah NPCs beyond Kakariko
after impa being the Last of Her Kind for nearly 20 years, we were kind of spoiled with the era of wilds sheikah. still, kakariko is known for it's older population and botw makes a point to let us know paya isn't used to seeing people her age. this post is about asking 'where are they?' and filling in the gaps. being a peaceful farming village it makes sense the younger gens would want to leave as soon as they can for some adventure.
sheikah typically have hair on the grey-to-white scale (granté proves this isn't a requirement), and unlike the past games they have a greater diversity in eye colour. below is a list of hylian npcs that look too young to have greying hair that i hc are either from kakariko, or have some sheikah ancestry.
Tumblr media
from left to right: lecia, letty, mina, her brother mils by proxy, teli, juney, and baumar. i'll go into more detail about each under the cut, comparing them from the 2 games alongside some more headcanons. some of them i haven't found in totk yet, so i'll edit when i do.
pic on the left side is them in botw, totk on the right.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mina is a treasure hunter looking for loot with her brother by the exchange ruins outside the great plateau. the siblings also show up in the dlc. they're trying to steal a sheikah heirloom back from the yiga hideout, though they don't know it's purpose - they just wanna sell it. in totk she walks on the path between lakeside stable and lurelin. she says that even treasure hunters deserve some fun once in a while, so we can assume she's takin' it easy. Mils, meanwhile...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...joined the zonai survey team, and moans about what tough work it is. he walks through pagos woods to the zonai ruins. he joined in the hopes it would lead him to treasure, but he hasn't had his lucky break yet. most hylians travel from stable to inn and can be assumed not to have a proper home due to the lasting effects of the calamity. this is my bias but i like to think he's talking about kakariko when he mentions home. let him grow some pumpkins and wrangle cuccos. he wishes to live a quiet life.
i find it sweet him and mina are both in faron. maybe they decided to split up and cover more ground? with mina off sunbathing and sipping mimosas in lurelin, mils got the short end of the stick again.
Tumblr media
Baumar:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
'i hope you die': lazy, cliché, unrealistic. 'i hope your favourite botw npc gets mushroomed and bowlcutted': it's scary, it's possible, it's happening to me right now. such was the fate of our poor resident shield-surfer bro from botw. known for many hit quotes such as 'let's go bamboo! yahoo!', 'shield surfing is like, totally radical, dude', and my favourite:
Tumblr media
in botw he rides his horse on the path between serenne and snowfield stable. in totk he's part of the fashion tour-group that run around hateno village. maybe he went to hebra to show his 'wicked' surfing moves to selmie and she said 'kid, if i let you out on the slopes you'll die. sorry'. his world was completely shattered beneath him like a broken shield, so he turned to cravats and puffy short shorts to cope.
his name is similar to the hills of baumer above deya village ruins. maybe he's a descendent of the few survivors. i wonder what his ancestors are thinking now, watching what he does with the gift of life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Teli walks between fort hateno and hateno village. He sells ancient guardian parts and even mentions he trades them with Robbie. he has a high opinion of himself and tells you he's known across hyrule for his 'roguish good looks.' in totk he's one of the men in the 'Gourmets gone missing' Penn quest that gave himself food-poisoning by riverside stable. after which he scares away some cuccos and makes you wrangle them for a sidequest. just L after L for this dashing rogue.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Juney, now famous for her rupee grinding sand seal minigame, i instantly recognised as the epic divorce woman from rito village. her attitude is just as surly as ever but they gave her a soft side. i like that every minigame location could not be further from hateno. you'll find that school someday queen.
she was a newly wed mad at her husband, jogo, for choosing a cold place for their honeymoon. he begs you to give him flint to cook some baked apples for her to save their already failing marriage.
Tumblr media
in totk they're not together, jogo inhabits a cabin in tabantha village ruins with another woman. he didn't give her enough baked apples.
Tumblr media
Letty walks along the path between lakeside stable and lurelin. she gives you cooking tips and that's pretty much it. i'm pretty sure i've met her as a yiga disguise more often than i've seen the real her. if anyone has found her in totk, please let me know.
Tumblr media
Lecia is a new character in totk. she's with the research team and plays a part in the foothill stable Penn quest. she kind of looks like a grown up Koko. maybe a distant relative? but maybe she's not sheikah. maybe the sight of all those pasty naked man nips traumatised her so bad she got marie-antoinette syndrome from the shock. i haven't seen her since.
thank you if you read to the end. to clarify i'm working on some fic stuff and that entails finding npcs across the overworld to give some more lore. it's a sheikah focused fic so i needed some characters other than the kakariko residents. it's also just fun fleshing out random npcs to make the world feel more lived in. again, i'm missing some details like what mina does before you save lurelin, so i'll edit this post in the future.

“You’re not living up to the legend.”
“I just love the smell of fear!”

“I am no longer worthy. I am sorry.”
“So, this is where dignity goes to die.”
“Me? I don’t have a name, or a home.”
“I mostly come up here for the food and the friends.”
“My cats can play better than you.”
“It’s like a possum crawled on your face and died.”
“Please, mock me quietly.”
“Please, I was the best thief you ever hired.”
“Finally. You need therapy.”

“Ugh, he’s path is so corny.”
“That is the saddest funny story I ever heard.”
“I sit on your shoulder and judge your actions and the quality of your character.”
“It’s like a fever on my face!”
“Well, it’s okay to be afraid.”
“Well, that’s a load of rubbish. What’s that supposed to mean?”
“If you wanted to hold my hand, all you had to do was ask.”
“I’m starting to think you don’t appreciate the value of a life.”
“Can’t bake a pie without loosing a dozen men.”
“Yeah, do better, try harder.”
“You’re nothing but a low rent Cinderella.”
“Was the legend so big that there was no room for anyone else?”
“Go ahead, run for it! Makes it more fun for me.”
“I’m getting a family! That’s what! A proper family! And then everything will be just right.”
“Come on. You didn’t think I’d actually stay-“
“Oh, what a good boy am I.”
“Ugh, blow up already!”
“Maybe one life is enough.”
“I know I could never defeat you, but I will never stop fighting for this life.”
“Why the hell did I go and play with my food?”
“Live your life. Live it well.”
“You know when you said Death was after you, I thought you were just being melodramatic.”
“It’s so cute… How you think that would work on me. Don’t you know I’m dead inside?”
“I hate to say it, but should we make a wish?”
“(Name), one life spent with you is all I could wish for.”
“Oh. Oh now you’ve made me cry.”

Ghost Files Au
@asbealthgn it really works for them 👀
Part 2
“Robin is the camera on?” Steve asks. His eyes were looking right above the camera on the screen. Wearing a bright yellow sweater, he’s the first thing anyone would look at before their eyes would shift over to another male, Eddie. Who was sitting right next to him, silently rolling a twenty sided die. His curls were hiding his face from the angle that the camera had him at. This was not their first session together, and he was fully aware that there was no reason trying to act polite and proper on camera. Already, within the first two episodes of the show it was chaos. It wasn’t what the network had expected but the fans seemed to enjoy it so shockingly they weren’t dropped.
He had already learned that it took a few minutes for the set up to be finished. This wasn’t their first episode of this show so he was at ease. Not to worried about fucking up the garbage fire they have created or getting it canceled. He faintly hears Robin respond to Steve letting him know they were on. The small interaction would be edited out before release of course.
“Hi, I'm Steve and this is Eddie. Today we will be going over the mysterious anamly known as Vecna-” he's mid introduction when one of the dice Eddie is rolling falls off the table. The metal head pauses, awkwardly stares at the camera before he looks away purposely moving and bending his body in a way that seemed impossible as he looks down to look at what the number said.
“Oh look at that Steve, I just rolled a 5 which means Ghosts aren't real!”
“You dick.”
The video is then cut to the next shot, where both men are standing in the middle of a house. Eddie has purposely put sunglasses on and his hair is pulled up, while Steve wears another comfortable sweater. The camera is just being clicked on when the two are bickering a bit.
“Eddie you can't be dressed up like a guy from men in black.” Steves hands are on his hips as he scolds the other. Trying to get the other to pull his sun glasses off, he was fully aware that the other could barely see. Hell steve could barely see anything right now and he had his glasses on. That and the suit the other was wearing was currently his, which he had somehow stolen.
“Yes I can, and I will. I will walk around like this and you can’t stop me.” Eddie shakes his head his curls bouncing around him as he does.
“Oh, so if you are a agent from men in black you admit ghosts are real!” Steve points out. Looking at the other like he had finally won.
“Nope, ghosts are still very much not real. The men in black unit is just another useless government funded group. Just like the police department.” Eddie says with a straight face.
“Eddie! You can’t say that!” Steve scolds slapping the others arm.
“I’m not Eddie anymore, I’m now Agent D.” Eddie says with a straight face. His hair was raised in a messy bun as he speaks. Looking more professional and serious then what he actually was. Which was only making the situation more hilarious as you could faintly hear someone’s giggles behind the camera.
“Dude, your name doesn’t even start with a D, what does the D even stand for!?”
“Deez Nuts.”
Lowkey thinking about making this a series 👀

House of the Dragon Episode One thoughts as I watch:
I really like the two young girls so far they’ve been captivating and Matt Smith is promising as a creepy grooming uncle
Not sure I enjoy the… visuals?? It’s kind of uncanny valley. It both feels too real (because I can tell it’s a set) and not real enough (because I can tell it’s a set). Nothing wrong with the sets in question, just… disappointingly obvious. GoT had sets too (alongside a plethora of locations which gave it a valuable realism) but all the sets in Game of Thrones weren’t overly noticeable which meant they felt beautifully rich in terms of world building.
Also don’t like the editing style. Early GoT was frugal w/ editing. The dialogue took centre stage and actors were allowed to command a scene from beginning until end (unless there was a poignant reaction). So far the editing feels sporadic and unintentional. And certain camera shots feel a tad ambitious for no particular reason, which makes it seem indulgent. It’s all a little distracting.
The dialogue is actually good! Not word play levels that I expect, but contextually there isn’t much need yet. Not much politicking happening because there’s no real “enemy” whereas in GoT the enemy was everyone, so much politicking all the time. The dialogue, though clever, is very upfront (because the targs are unquestionable in their power). So it’s good. No need to distract ppl with so many cuts and weird shots.
Maybe they’re trying to distract from the sets?
It just feels a bit… modern? Staged?
A quick question: idk if it’s my tv or not, but like is the frame sped up? On my tv it all feels s little too fast in movement (sometimes tv offers a “hyper realism” thing and that might be messing w/ my experience)
There’s def a lack of proper intrigue. But I know that’s to come, so it’s fine.
Really it’s the visual part that bothers me.
Not sure I enjoy seeing Matt smith in a sex scene but alright
The girls are the best part for sure, and I know they’re the point of it all, so I do hope the writers aren’t sacrificing the intrigue of other characters for them.
Like imagine game of thrones if D&D framed Jon Snow as the main character from the beginning. It’d be boring af
I like seeing my guy from outlander here tho. Not enough variety in accents in fantasy and I appreciate it here.
NOT THE HORSE
I HATE JOUSTS
NO MORE HORSE ABUSE
Is it ok? It’s ok?
I wanna be grossed out by siblings being in love but like considering the family they’re in, it’s probably at warped attempt at normalcy. Like at least they were married to each other and not an aunt/uncle (or PARENT)
Ugh the “impossible choice” fucking starting to see this trend in film where men are shown to have to decide women’s lives during childbirth (obviously at sn attempt to humanise them and make them good “but in a bad position”) like honestly it’s the new “turning your wife’s death/trauma into your own for a plot point” like spareeee me the angst most men HISTORICALLY had no issue killing their wives
Oh fuck me he’s gonna kill her
Never mind he’s a bad person
Never mind it was gruesome
They didn’t frame it as a difficult choice or like “he didn’t have any other option” or “he’s still good actually because we cut away from it all”
Holy shit MAJOR trigger warning for a torture scene
Like sure yeah maybe they were both gonna die but the doctor clearly didn’t give af about the queen so I doubt there’s was much investigation for a better option (that saves her)
Wait so he has a son now
Oh the baby’s gone
I LOVE how Valyrian sounds 200 years before Dany
The rolllls
Small touch I really enjoy? The fires give off so much smoke and I’ve never seen it before in a show. Do they normally cgi it away?
Not sure I’m hooked, again, intrigue is missing, character across the board that are all thoroughly interesting, but I DO like our main contenders.
They did NOT just throw the Game of Thrones ending shade like that
They. Did. Not. Just say DANY was meant to get the throne (even if for a short while because I feel she’s only meant to have it to unite the realm for the battle and likely leaves/dies after, as an end to an age of magic).
Like the point of GoT was obvs that the politicking WASNT the point but it’s suchhhh vindication that Daenerys was magically destined to ascend the throne
I don’t care if you think Jon is an option - she was the mother of dragons not him
Doesn’t mean Jon doesn’t do important things during the war to come, or even become a king after Dany, as this show said a Targ w/ dragons is needed to protect the world from a position of monarchy - doesn’t mean that monarchy exists for very much longer after the war ends.
So TECHNICALLY she both WINS the game of thrones AND breaks the wheel
Coupled w/ the fact that they HIGHLIGHTED Dany’s name at the beginning
G RR Martin is practically shouting who becomes the head of Westeros during the winter war. (Again, not necessarily the PTWP, because this is a separate Targ dreaming, not the prophecy that Rhaegar became obsessed w/ but now I see why he became obsessed w/ it if he was given this info by his dad before hearing it).
Ahhhhhhh

Oh yes, the "Lucy gets gangbanged correctively" is VERY popular in academia, just like it's popular to state that Harker fleeing from the sisters' fangs is "Male anxiety towards female sexuality". From the latest one I read":
The murderous phallicism of this passage clearly punishes Lucy for her transgressions of Van Helsing’s gender code, even as it reassures the threatened homosociality of these very anxious males... By disciplining Lucy and restoring to each gender its “proper” function, Van Helsing’s pacification program at once paralyzes the female, disperses a specifically homosexual threat, and consolidates the male homosocial community. Here indeed is a process “wherein male rivals unite, refreshed in mutual support and definition, over the ruined carcass of a woman.”
I love when academics say insanely dumb shit and then provide no explanation whatsoever.
If I tried to get away with that in class, or hell in a fucking shitpost, I'd be eaten alive.
Every single line of that needs to be its owe explanatory paragraph because otherwise they're just talking shit and expecting us to agree on reflex lmao
Like, I've got the training to see the point they were goeg for, but I shouldn't have to fix it for them, goddamn
The murderous phallicism of this passage > The wooden stake is a phallic object, and a large one at that. It is specifically given to Lucy's fiance, who sweatily heaves it into her body. In this way, the stake serves as symbolic of sexual penetration, eg, the penis.
clearly punishes Lucy for her transgressions of Van Helsing’s gender code > You saying "clearly" dosen't absolve the need for clarification. Who edited this? Why did you let the author publish this inanity? Anyway, Lucy is explicitly being SAVED in the scene, but if we pretend that being a vampire represents feminine empowerment, a hypothesis opposed and negated by the rest of the novel, then yes on could argue the staking counters that. One could emphatically NOT argue that it's because Lucy "violated VH's gender norms." Lucy adhered with perfection to those norms, and in fact it is specifically her passive acceptance of her fate, associated with womanhood and praised by VH, that allows her to die in her sleep, and avoid totau corruption.
even as it reassures the threatened homosociality of these very anxious males > IN! WHAT! UNIVERSE! DOES! THE! STAKING! SOOTHE! THEIR! ANXIETIES!! But anyway, let's pretend that actually happened, because that's clearly how this dipshit interpreted it. That has FUCKALL to do with homosociality. In real life, yes, any grouping ot men without women is a homosocial situation. BUT THIS IS NOT REAL LIFE. What in the name of fuck do
OH MY GOD IT'S BECAUSE JACK FINALLY BELIEVES VAN HELSING
I swear to fucking god, no one is allowed to talk about this novel until they write me a fucking letter by MAIL about how they love and respect every single character.
You wanna talk homosociality, talk about the way Jono is convinced to let Drac step on him. Talk about the crew of the demeter. TALK! ABOUT! THE STEAMSHIP AND HORSEBACK RIDING!
Or, you know, just make some drivel up. Yikes.
By disciplining Lucy > The bloofer lady is not Lucy and everyone involved is very explicit about this. It is Lucy's CORPSE.
and restoring to each gender its “proper” function > Mate, you're just projecting at this point. VH is about to call Seward his wife, and you think he's the arbiter of Extreme Gender Conformity Mutilation??? But anyway, sure, blame VH for your weird belief that this is restoring a natural order. Whatever.
And they say I'm projecting just because I write porn.
Van Helsing’s pacification program at once paralyzes the female > SHE! IS! DEAD! ALREADY!!! WHY ARE YOU SO DETERMINED TO EQUATE WOMANHOOD WITH A DEAD BODY BEING PUPPETED AROUND BY A MAN????
disperses a specifically homosexual threat > Ah yes, the homosexual threat of [checks notes] a 19 year old straight woman corpse on her, who has literally got baby fever.
and consolidates the male homosocial community > Author does not know what homosociality is. I give up.
Here indeed is a process “wherein male rivals unite, refreshed in mutual support and definition, over the ruined carcass of a woman.” > Listen at this point I have to assume this was written by a TERF somehow. The way the author keeps gagging on the dehumanization of Lucy by equating her life to the violent corrupt monster in her corpse is like.
So fucking.
IDK how to describe it, but if the author isn't a TERF, I still wouldn't trust them around any trans person. This is NOT a healthy realtionship to gender roles.

His Ruby - Chapter 8
Summary: What if the ruby became a person, and Dream would stop at nothing to possess her?
Morpheus x F!Original Character
A/N: Finished writing and posted on mobile cause I’m at a friend’s house. no editing here, we die like men.
Taglist: @gorgeourrific-nerd @dotieeee
Preview:
Ariel almost let’s loose a giggle in glee, gathering up her skirts and running through the dance floor. As she runs from the Goblin King, though, she secretly hopes this time he will catch her, and they’ll dance the whole night away. Levity and fantasy are exactly what she needs to escape the horrors of her waking life.
Just as she reaches the edge of the dance floor, arms wrap around her waist, pulling her back and spinning her around into proper waltzing position. Ariel let’s out a startled laugh, but lets herself be led into the dance, her large skirt twirling around her and her partner.
She opens her eyes, expecting to see the masked face of the Goblin King smiling back at her, but she yelps when she sees Morpheus sweeping her across the dance floor.
Ariel’s heart pounds, and she struggles to break his grip on her, to no avail as usual.
“Calm yourself, my love, it’s just a dance,” Morpheus whispers into her ear, lifting her as he spins her.
She remains tense, but has no choice but to let him carry her through the dance. He’s dressed as finely as the rest of the party goers, albeit in all black. His long coat flares out behind him as he spins them around, mirroring her skirt in a yin-yang of light and dark.

some quick notes on miranda
(long ass post warning and i didn‘t edit this because my executive function disorder brain won‘t allow it so no beta we die like men)
contrary to what some people might believe, miranda doesn‘t think she is superior to other people because she‘s genetically modified. look what she says here:
‚You should know I‘ve had extensive genetic modification. Not my choice, but I make the best of it.‘
miranda doesn‘t seem to feel guilty for it, because it wasn‘t her choice. but she also doesn‘t feel like she‘s superior for having perfect genetics (which i feel a lot of people accuse her of), because she knows she only has those because her father paid for it. it isn‘t something she can take credit for. i think she knows she‘s got ‚unfair‘ advantages but she doesn‘t dwell on it - she makes the best of it. she‘s not ashamed to point it out, because it‘s just a fact - if other people interpret her stating the facts as her being cocky and feeling superior to others, that‘s their fault for falsely interpreting what she says. i also think she likes to point out how she‘s good at everything because before joining cerberus her whole life she believed she was a failure - her father constantly criticized her and picked her apart her entire childhood, how could she not believe she was a failure at everything she did?
that time when miranda instantly mentions what she is capable of (‚worried about my qualifications? i can crush a mech with my biotics or shoot its head off at a hundred yards. take your pick.“) isn‘t her bragging. it is miranda preemptively assuming that shepard is potentially doubting her qualifications. because her entire childhood miranda was constantly fighting a battle - constantly having to prove herself to her father. so before shepard even gets the chance to express any doubts, miranda makes sure to tell him what she is capable of because she doesn‘t want to be in that unpleasant position again of having someone doubt her. because she knows she is not the failure her father claimed she was.
she‘s still so traumatized from constantly being criticized, that she just instantly assumes shepard is worried about her qualifications. even though there should be no reason why shepard should be worried about her qualifications right from the start without a proper reason. it‘s the mindset abuse victims have.
miranda isn‘t bragging when she mentions her capabilities. she‘s just avoiding being vulnerable, or she is responding to questions - such as that time when she mentions what benefits she had from her modifications because shepard asked. she wouldn‘t have listed it off if shepard didn‘t ask - which is exactly what conceited people do who like to brag.
miranda, in my opinion, even downplays her modifications. when shepard asks what level of modification she‘s talking about she says
‚It‘s very thorough. Physically, I‘m superior in many ways. I heal fast and I‘ll likely live one time and half again as long as the average human. My biotics are also very advanced - for a human. Add to that some of the best training and education that money could buy and well, it‘s pretty impressive really.“
she‘s got far more modifications than just her lifespan, faster healing and biotics. if miranda really were that conceited she could have listed them all but she didn‘t. she gave shepard a quick run down of the most relevant ones (biotics and healing for instance are relevant to mention because it matters in a combat setting). she‘s not even mentioning her genetically modified intelligence here. she doesn‘t mention that until later. note how she also adds her biotics are only strong by human standards. would a person that is so conceited really mention that? if she were so conceited and self obsessed she‘d use every opportunity to get to brag. and she‘d definitely be mentioning something like superior intelligence much earlier if that were the case.
the rumor that miranda thinks she‘s something better because of her perfect genetics is definitely just a myth, and whoever claims she‘s bragging all the time is wrong

7, 27, 28, 97? 🙈
(also holy crap that's a lot of questions...I hope I didn't pick out the most boring ones 😂😂)
thank you for the ask iva!! // from these asks
7. Would you cannibalise a dead body in a life-or-death scenario? Does your answer change depending on whether they're a loved one or not?
WHOA what a question--uh, see, i've read so many books where cannibalism does happen (like that one book about the whale and the essex), and it seems that the characters are always thinking something like we never thought we'd be the ones eating people, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
but also, i remember reading from in the heart of the sea (the book about the whale and the essex survivors) that even when people were eating dead bodies, they found that like. they weren't even satiated/getting proper nutrients because the people they were eating didn't have anything to them. (which i know is. very uh. morbid to think about, but if we're talking practicalities...)
long way of answering: i would hope not!
27. Do you think you have a "moral compass" and where or who do you think you got it from? Or do you think of it as something inherent to yourself?
i think i got my moral compass from like . . . just a mix of reading a lot of stories, being a member of my family, and also i think just plain intuition. at least, i remember from a young age being really confused whenever i realized that someone was being mean or rude--like, my little 5 year old brain could not comprehend Why Another Kid Would Act That Way, and i didn't know much but i just knew that I Didn't Like It and I Thought it Was Wrong and Bad. so maybe both?
28. What has influenced your taste in music?
probably anything that i felt was telling a good story--so funny enough, a lot of my favorite songs came straight from fan edits/fan videos from back when i was a kid, just because i was so fascinated by how people could line up the lyrics to a story i already knew. so anything with really strong lyrics/imagery has really sort of led me to the kind of music i like today!
97. What is a trivial hill that you are willing to die on?
that you cannot call anyone a dilf if they're under the age of 40! that is not a dilf! stop calling pretty-faced men in their 20s and 30s dilfs! they need to have wrinkles around their eyes and grey hairs and also in general look very tired with the world in order to be called a dilf!

Brain injuries & criminal behaviour
As we know from decades of research about the brain, each area is in charge of its own functions and abilities. The sections of our brains work constantly to keep our bodies and minds going and to allow us to function in our daily lives. From the things we take for granted like blood circulation and temperature control, to the complex processes of problem solving and storing new information. The brain is the control center of everything that makes us our unique selves, but sometimes even the brain makes mistakes. On this week’s edition of the What’s Up Blog, we will be discussing brain injuries and criminal behaviour.
What would happen if one day, for some reason, your brain was no longer able to function typically? That is the reality for approximately 165,000 Canadians each year, which is one person every 3 minutes (BIC, n.d.), that sustains a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). That means that during the time it takes you to read this blog post, around 3 people would have experienced the devastating effects of TBI and will live with those effects for the rest of their lives. The CDC describes TBI as an injury that affects how the brain works. They can be caused by a bump, blow, jolt, or penetrating injury to the head (CDC, 2022). Once the nerve cells of the brain die, they can never be brought back, as they do not regenerate. Fast action needs to be taken to reconnect the vast chains of neurons that have been damaged before they die. If survivors cannot gain access to treatment due to economic, regional, cultural, or other barriers, their lives can be changed forever.
One of the most common stereotypes about individuals with brain injuries is that it makes them more violent and aggressive. This can be true, because certain areas of the brain control our emotional regulation and impulse control, but everyone has the ability to display aggression. Those of us with a normally functioning brain are just able to control our feelings and use critical thinking to find better solutions to our problems. A study by Umbrasas (2020) showed that out of 80 participants charged with criminal offenses, 20% had a history of mild TBI. A Swedish study by Fazel, et al. (2011) found that individuals with TBI showed a significantly increased risk of violent crime. Instead of treating these individuals as “mindless criminals”, I believe that we as a society should support them and increase our understanding of brain injuries. Without access to proper treatment, criminal behaviour is just one of the possible outcomes. This was the case for one UK survivor, Bryon Schofield.
In August of 2010, Bryon and his brother were violently attacked by a group of men while walking through an alleyway. Schofield was hit with a hammer during the incident and was diagnosed with a brain hemorrhage and skull fracture. His injuries were so severe that he was placed in a coma for 3 days and a part of his skull was removed to let pressure escape from the bleed. He was discharged 6 months later, despite losing most of the strength in the left side of his body, having poor short-term memory, and slurred speech. His doctors recommended that he seek specialist rehabilitation, but he was denied due to a lack of space in the facility. His mother became his full-time carer and he worked tirelessly for 2 years (without formal treatment) to regain his independence.
Only 3 months after Schofield moved into his own apartment, he recognized his attackers at a party held by his friend. He claims that he was unable to stop himself when he began the fight that led to his arrest. In prison, he was unable to care for himself and had to be paired with a cellmate to help him with his daily living needs. 7 months after his arrest, a representative of the Disabilities Trust told the court that Schofield was too ill to serve his prison sentence and he should instead be sent to a rehabilitation facility. The court accepted this proposal and Schofiled was given an 18-month sentence at Daniel Yorath House, where he underwent daily therapy and rehabilitation for his injury. By the time he had completed his sentence, he had learned daily living skills, emotional regulation skills, impulse control, and was ready to live independently. Neuropsychologist Dr. Ivan Pitman, who works for the Disabilities Trust, asserted that Bryon Schofield would have never committed a crime if it weren’t for his brain injury (Menon, 2018).
This story is just one of thousands of stories about brain injuries and criminal behaviour. Although this one had a happy ending, with Bryon getting the treatment he deserved, many individuals are not this fortunate. Revisions to the treatment and care methods used for survivors of TBI could change this reality. To learn how you can help or make a donation, visit the Canadian Brain Injury Association. You can also sign the online petition to enact Bill C-277, which would establish a national strategy for the treatment of acquired and traumatic brain injuries. Thank you for reading!

Entry 94: Lilith’s Only Appearance
Revelation is the third and final route, released as DLC a few weeks after Birthright and Conquest. The idea of Revelation is that it’s a middle ground, where Corrin refused to pick a side and instead works to unite the two kingdoms to destroy the ultimate evil that one of the kingdoms works for. In theory, this route acts as the big, climactic finish for the game, bringing all the plot threads together into a single, satisfying story. It does not succeed in this. Again, it’s been years since I last played this game, but I can confirm that route isn’t the perfect golden route we want. Still, I do remember liking some aspects. Maybe Revelation has aged like fine wine into a good game. It won’t, but it’s nice to hope.
Revelation Chapter 6: Into The Ground
I start up a new save file, deciding to finally let the game call its protagonist Corrin instead of Moron, partially because the joke has gone stale and partially because I genuinely hope this route’s version of Corrin will be a character I like.
So anyway, future dream that doesn’t make sense, duel with Xander, refuse to execute prisoners, Hans tries to kill us, meet the Hoshidans, Mikoto dies because Garon is the worst, Azura calms Corrin down, yada yada yada. We’ve done this before. Revelation proper begins at the route split in Chapter 6.
This time, when forced to choose between Nohr and Hoshido, Corrin refuses to take a side. As a character choice, this honestly makes sense. Corrin isn’t going to side with Nohr, because they aren’t a braindead asshole, but they also wouldn’t want to fight their family. Corrin begs everyone to lay down their weapons and find a peaceful solution. Xander and Ryoma say fuck this and decide instead to have a fight to the death over ownership of Corrin. Azura and Jakob/Felicia show up and Azura recommends Corrin kills a commander from both sides, because that’ll get the big brothers’ attention. That’s a dumb fucking idea. The idea is fighting neither side, not killing random men from both. Also, this goes back to this game’s constant player-centered morality; those soldiers probably had families too, Azura.
After Corrin quickly kills two random boss units, Xander and Ryoma stop fighting to ask Corrin what the fuck. Ryoma and Xander both decide Corrin has turned traitor and order their capture. Azura and Corrin retreat to avoid being punished.
Azura tells Corrin that they must chose a side, because apparently both kingdoms will forget about the whole murdering their soldiers thing. Corrin vows to protect both families. Azura praises this, mentioning that her mother lost her life protecting Nohr. Except, no, she didn’t; Arete died when she told Azura about Valla. I mean, I guess telling her toddler about the game’s big bad could save Nohr...except Azura never does anything with this information. Couldn’t she have told someone more important? And I know I’m ranting about plot elements we haven’t gotten to yet, but this line is stupid.
Azura vows to follow Corrin and the game’s intro plays again, now edited to show a massive stone monster deep underground in Valla. Lilith shows up again and gives Corrin the keys to her pocket dimension. This is the only time Lilith shows up in this route. She only shows up again in Birthright and Conquest to die, and she doesn’t die in this route, so why would she show up? I mean, sure, this is the route featuring dragons, and her homeland, and her father, but why would Lilith be important? Why should she be anything else than a forgettable character with two lines who sits around in your castle?
Lilith’s funky castle realm is the same as in past routes, except now it allows you to get both the Hoshidan and Nohrian versions of each building. Neat.
Also why was this chapter called Into The Ground? That happens next chapter.
Support: Camilla/Jakob
C: Camilla thanks Jakob for taking care of Corrin before telling him to fuck off cause Corrin's hers.
B: Camilla tells Jakob to stop working for Corrin again. Jakob says no, because Corrin is his liege.
A: Camilla apologizes.
S: Jakob says he's jealous of Corrin because they're close with Camilla. They get together, swearing to protect Corrin over the other if they have to.
Review: Jakob's great, Camilla sucks. Also very repetitive.
Support: Niles/Odin
C: Niles informs Odin that the army needs names for some new weapons. Odin is overjoyed.
B: Niles turns in names without Odin, because otherwise they would be late with their submission. Odin gets mad. Niles mocks his names and mentions his suspicions over Odin's mysterious past.
A: Odin apologizes, which is good because Niles did nothing wrong. Niles apologizes for looking into Odin's past.
Review: This is a weird situation that just exists for this Support. Also this one is kinda mediocre.
Support: Charlotte/Leo
C: Charlotte makes Leo lunch. Leo is annoyed at her bothering him.
B: Leo does some tactical planning and realizes that Charlotte is stronk. Charlotte admits that she pretends to be weak because men don't like strong women. Charlotte has never spent one moment on the internet.
A: Leo tells Charlotte to stop concealing her strength because he has no use for soldiers who can't fight. Also he points out that some men are fine with strong women. Like literally every single man in our army who isn't an old man, for example.
S: Leo proposes. Charlotte declines, because she cannot tell if she is marrying him for wealth or love. Leo takes that as proof of her love.
Review: Overall, pretty decent, but a bit unoriginal. A lot of Charlotte's Supports are painfully similar to each other.
Support: Arthur/Beruka
C: Arthur spots Beruka talking to a shady character and, as an enforcer of justice, asks her about it. Beruka asks what justice is and Arthur lists off good deeds.
B: Beruka informs Arthus she's been hired to assassinate a government official. Arthur informs her that he has been hired to protect him from an assassin. Why do they take side jobs there's a war going on. Beruka informs Arthur she always finishes her missions. Arthur bluntly replies the same.
A: Arthur is run over by a carriage. Beruka, think there's another assassin, retreats. Beruka is happy she didn't have to kill Arthur, because he believes in justice. Because he's an idiot.
S: Arthur explains that there is no assassin, just his bad luck trying to kill him. Beruka laughs and they get married.
Review: Arthur repeating Beruka’s implied threat is great, as is the idea of Beruka thinking there’s an assassin out to get him. Plus, Arthur feels more likely to warm Beruka’s heart than most characters. Overall, pretty good.

Biiiig paragraphs incoming cos im all caught up now!
So um. I fully didnt realise this was eunwoo until he sang in the wedding episode and i was like ok shoehorned in singing scene, this has to be an idol right? (In other words I should look at credits more often T.T) in my defense i only know like 2 astro songs lol
Also im adopting yul T.T hes so pure and helpful and all he wants is a pet dog someone pleaaaase get him a puppy...edit: holy fuck they make him deal with so much they make him pull like 3 all nighters, they rly brought him in as a fake bf... and then take him out as the third wheel xD hes so dramatic about it too acts like hes dying 10/10 oscar for the kid (nvm looked him up hes actually 2 years older than me thats not a kid skskks)
The bullying storyline made me SO nervous i fully thought shed succeed in ruining mr jins reputation (i cant handle storylines where people get unjustly framed for things it proper stresses me out skdjsk) or that something terrible was gonna happen to the poor student as a revenge from the bullies. but also seeing teachers actually care about students wellbeing over the reputation of the school is something that can be so 🥹 you love to see it
I rly loved the school trip episode!!! her coworker is still so set on trying to match her with mr lee skdjsk shes winning the wingman points but not the 'keeping up with the news' points (and also the cotton candy scene. What if i passed away. What if i straight up died. what then)
Oh and the cryptic new shaman girl? Shes def connected to mr lee right, cos shes got way too many mystic powers like he seems to have, what with his teleporting around to scare the bully. Oh and shes tryna break into his basement and all (and ofc yul gets roped into that too, he can never catch a break poor kid)
Edit; hes the MOUNTAIN SPIRIT RIGGGGGHT that explains the magic (i have to say i prefer him with long hair, men should have long hair more sksksk) super curious to see what his angle is since he cursed this family and is still keeping tabs on them but keeps implying mr jins gonna die or smth 😳
It was satisfying as fuck to watch him wreck the conspiracy theory streamer in one flick though, i was chanting KILL HIS ASS at the screen lmao
And YEAAAAAAAHGGHHH infinite fist pump!!! they finally confessed and kissed!!!!!! The way he instantly went for it too as soon as she said thr curse is over, you knooow hes been waiting for 3 months to do that,, wail theyre so sweet im holding them both gently theyre perfect for each other orz
Okay okay im done for now, youre free from the ask spam....but I didnt realise i was getting into an unfinished series when i started this so uh, i guess ill see you next week after the new episode airs xD
-🌱
your ask got me all excited again so I might rewatch the whole show before the new ep airs ajbfajflf
yea, Yul actor deserves an oscar, an emmy and even a grammy for his performance I WAS LITERALLY DYING
"i cant handle storylines where people get unjustly framed for things it proper stresses me out" SAME OMG I was so worried but thankfully the whole thing resolved during the same episode.
"hes been waiting for 3 months to do that" considering he fell in love with her the moment he first saw her, its WAY longer than that, which makes it even more precious (in episode 3 we saw a flashback of their first time meeting when Hae Na started working at the school, which was never clear if it was a while ago or just this year) check episode 3 33:27-34:54 (I speed watched the episode at work, I'm not that obsessed to know the exact timestamp, dont worry)

August movies!!
hi doreen !!!
ive decided to watch at least one film a day this month for no reason, but i have been having fun. since i don't use letterbox to give proper reviews i thought it'd be fun to start documenting my thoughts on each one for the month :) (ratings based on intuition alone) (this will take a while/ in progress)
-the cabin in the woods: 6/10 i really wanted to like this cause i liked the vibes and it seemed right up my alley- i love a horror comedy; but i found myself really bored halfway through. i do like the premise but i think the characters were a bit too archetype-y for me, which i get is the point. i still found it enjoyable and i would watch it again- just probably with other people, i think it's a group watch film.
-the virgin suicides: 9/10 i'm using this to work through some of my watchlist and this was on there for a while, we talked about watching it and i was not disappointed. the exploration of grief from the peripherals really struck me as well as the depiction of girlhood. i understand the criticism of the girls stories being told by the boys but to me the film seemed very self-aware and deliberate in that depiction (and i do love an unreliable narrator). the utter foreboding that hung over the mystical haze of memory throughout the film was enchanting and i mean the cinematography and soundtrack, impeccable. i can't move on without mentioning the symbolism of the elm trees, it's as if a literary technique was designed specifically to get me to like a film. the elm in itself has such interesting mythos and history which maybe wasn't deliberate beyond the obvious symbols in the film, but still is really interesting, for example, in norse mythology, the first woman was made from an elm and in america elms became a symbol of war and liberation during the revolution.
-girl, interrupted: 10/10 started with simon and garfunkle and still got better. incredible performances from any lesbians idea of a stacked cast and jared leto dies at war so win-win. the depictions of illness while i can't say are flawless, never feel like the intentions are wholly mocking- (though i obviously can't speak for everyone) and are devastating when brought to focus. and there's a homoerotic friendship so i was always gonna like it.
-purple hearts: 0/10 i dont even want to talk about it, i was watching it ironically and i couldn't even bring myself to have fun. the politics are beyond confused and seem to boil down to a centrist mush of love everyone despite their flaws (racism) and war's okay if the soldiers are big pouty white men. the romance was even rushed i don't know how anyone enjoyed it.
-the lighthouse: 8/10 exactly my type of artsy bullshit, robert pattinson and willam defoe shine in this weird, gross, claustrophobic, anxious masterpiece and i was having a great time. so much and so little happened but the delirious descent into madness was wonderful and a little bit gay so score.
-saw: 10/10 i finally watched it and as i predicted am obsessed, i just love a horror that is just a little ridiculous. i want to keep billy in a cage and feed him carrot sticks, (is he an animatronic or a puppet? how does he cycle???) jigsaws motivations make no sense and honestly good from him, i'd go batshit crazy if i were him too. the editing is so 2000s i can't stop thinking about it. the bathroom trap is where i want to go when i die. the horror was a lot less visceral than i was expecting; i think the contained nature of the traps really just creates such tension, especially between the characters stuck together, which is so compelling to me. the reverse bear trap is crazy i love it and what lesbian horror fan isn't a little in love with amanda. im so glad i hadn't had the twist spoiled for me because oh my god. also score slapped: hello zepp.
-old: 4/10 so silly i think more rich people should pay out of pocket to make bad films unintentionally. i watched with my siblings and i love nothing more than tearing apart this sort of thing with a captive audience who have to find me funny or be bored.
-extra ordinary: 8/10 i didn't know this was Irish until it started and what a pleasant surprise it all was. such a fun watch i really enjoyed it. the supernatural elements were the good side of corny and the romance was cheesy but heartfelt, with quintessentially irish humour just a really easy to watch, fun little film.
-piggy: 7/10 i really enjoyed this despite the not-great dub i was watching. i like how the bullied girl revenge trope was subverted and saras character felt very real, her reactions to events came off as very genuine and the suspension throughout is pulled off really well. i do get the criticisms of it being a drawn-out short cause i did find it a little slow at times but not having seen the short i didn't find the plot at all diminished. i liked the aspect of detachment from the killings emphasized by none of them being on camera while the emotional impact remained as well as the almost haunting presence of the killer and his intentions.
-the florida project: 9/10 another one that's been collecting dust on my watchlist for a while now i was absolutely enchanted by every aspect of it. the honest depiction of childhood and a very american poverty was striking. the gorgeous use of colours brought the vibrance of childhood back even in the dilapidated americana of it all. the acting really shone, willam defoe slayed of course but the kids are what make it special. and that final shot.
-we're all going to the worlds fair: 8/10 such an interesting film, nothing has ever quite captured the echoing loneliness that existence on the internet can create like this before. i loved the aspect of the accidental acting in search of connection, to me the lead-caseys-personal experience reads as completely honest without necessarily pointing to the spooky aspects being beyond her own mind. the film's atmosphere remains evenly eerie throughout, actually spooking me a little at times. the incredible, universal isolation of each character was really well portrayed with no conversations taking place without some barrier (a screen, a door) and i loved the framing of the fair itself, especially in contrast to the bleak monotonous world of empty snowed-in woodland and soulless frosty towns that casey occupies. the lead actress did such a good job portraying casey and her shifting identity and breakdowns. the director's transness cannot be ignored and the film as an allegory for dysphoria works so well. all this set to the droning instrumentals of alex g creates such a foreboding ambiance i couldn't help but love. definitely one of my favourite watches so far.
-shiva baby: 8/10 oh boy so stressful but also really fun. im starting to really like rachel sennott, looking forward to seeing more of her in stuff soon; speaking of bottoms looks like it's gonna be so good.
-red, white and royal blue: look, we know this is not my kind of thing, i get why people like it but for me this one especially with the indescribably weird political message is just not good, i didn't like the book and i don't like the film. gay people should have cheesy bad films though so its fine.
-when harry met sally: 9/10 this is one of those films i always thought i'd get round to eventually and i was suprised how much i liked it. really really cute, made me believe in love again or something. meg ryans hair was stunning also.
-marry my dead body: 7/10 i definitely enjoyed watching this but if i was being haunted by a twink drastic things would happen and they would not be good. i liked the characters well enough and the mafia(?) plot was fun, action sequences were okay and i'll be charmed by most ghost plots plus a kooky grandparent? great film recipe.
-juno: 10/10 knew i'd love this and boy did i! everything about it was just so charming, the dialogue and mannerisms of the characters (except jason batemans who was so so scary), the soundtrack, the aesthetics and did i mention the soundtrack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i love kimya dawson so much. just a wonderful little film.
-submarine: 8/10 i'm a fan of richard ayode but i think this is his only directorial work of his i've seen and i have to say i really enjoyed it. the cinematography was really cool, i liked the use of symmetry and colour, especially the assigning a colour to each character, that's my shit; stand-out shot for me was the dream sequence over the dam drain thing- i love a water motif used to represent inner turmoil of a character- olivers basically kendall roy if logan was welsh instead of scottish. i know people love the score but i never got into the artic monkeys cause i'm not a huge fan of alex turners voice so a series of songs written and performed by the man didn't exactly stand out to me, but they seemed lyrically cool. i love the awkward stilted dialogue and the oddity of the main characters, they're not exactly likeable but that for me doesn't detract from the film. also his dad was a freak called lloyd and i love him.
-bound: 10/10 i mean what can i say, it's a lesbian crime thriller and if you don't think im gonna love that you're crazy. the plot is really compelling and corky and violet are an even more compelling. i enjoyed it. (also add this to my list of really good films made in 1996)
-bombshell: 2/10 lazy liberal feminism, i watched for margot and kate
-bones and all: 10/10 cannibalism in media <3<3<3 i also really enjoy a bit of Southern Gothic in my films so this was always gonna be a hit with me, even if i had to look past timothys presence. from the start the atmosphere is intense, the rural desolate setting, the immediate social and then literal isolation of maren really keeps the foreboding building only broken by the sudden violence. cannibalism works so well here as queer coding (and everywhere else, don't get me started). the weird balance of such realistic settings and this unchangeable almost supernatural aspect of biological 'survival cannibalism' is so interesting; and the romance element of the film worked really well for me.
-werewolves within: 6/10 a fun little horror comedy, i thought i would like it more but the humour wasn't quite my thing, a little millenial maybe. i still enjoyed it and it was a nice film to watch with my mam.
-as above, so below: 7/10 subpar acting and script writing made up for by such a good concept, Dantes Inferno as the catacombs absolutely slayed, and i was actually pretty spooked a couple times which doesn't usually happen to me beyond overreacting to jumpscares, which while im on the subject the jumpscares here were really well done, didn't feel lazy to me at all. it does need to be said that it really feels like they had a good concept but needed to work the script and plot more, the horror could use some backup from a better-written storyline and better justification for the character's endings.
-primal fear: 8/10 young edward norton was a real standout here. definitely an interesting legal mystery thriller, i think the twist would probably be more impactful back in 1996 (good year for film), it felt a little played out at this point but still very well done.
-slums of beverly hills: 7/10 i love a good coming-of-age and also natasha lyonne so i definitely enjoyed this. don't love the way some topics were glossed over but what can you do.
-fifty shades of grey: bad.
-vampires suck: 6/10 a funny little parody, mentioned the black eyed peas.
-weird: the al yankovic story: 7/10 daniel radcliff as a freak strikes again. definitely my favourite musician biopic i've seen so far. charming in its ridiculousness.
-ginger snaps: 9/10 a coming of age horror which conflates the begining of puberty to the transformation of warewolfism. i really appreciated the body horror elements as a cronenberg fan and i just think the horror was done really well. the two main characters were played so well and it was quite funny at times. i liked the interpretation of lycanthropy as a disease and the route of cure the characters used. would definitely recommend!
-insidious: 5/10 while i didn't find it especially scary i think the horror was well done and the plot was actually quite interesting! astral projection is quite a unique look at a ghost story and i loved that it was a person being haunted not a house, it was a good subversion. i did watch for leigh whannell and he made such a fun supporting character among some pretty meh main characters. definetely not a bad film!
-no hard feelings: 6/10 so fun! im so glad more stuff like this is coming out again and i mean jennifer lawrence slayed so hard. weird how people are such prudes about female nudity still, it wasn't like she was being overly sexualised in the scene but people are making such a huge deal out of it, i thought it made for a funny moment. i really enjoyed the characters and their relationship felt very real and cute! also depicted modern teenagers as very scary which i approve of.
-ghost world: 8/10 a really interesting look at two girls stuck in limbo between high school and adulthood. i really liked the depiction of enid avidly avoiding confronting moving on and how she inadvertently hurts everyone around her by being so casually selfish and how shes contrasted by rebecca (also scar jo slayed here gave absoloutely nothing, such a good character). the aesthetics of the film were really fun, with the delapedated city really highlighting the girls and also how fun the costuming was. steve buscemi also had a standout performance in which he was an awkward freak and a pretentious asshole about music! what a slay.
i really enjoyed doing this, it kind of forced me to actually engage in the media i was consuming past the casual level i usually find myself on. and it sure beat watching tiktok for six hours before bed.
