I just think it’s hilarious how so... Gymrat!Virgil does a lot of quick service jobs like inventory, cashier, cart return, all that miscellany.

And he has the Service Voice down pat.

But he will be a passive-aggressive gaslighting lil shit to shitty customers, taking advantage of his tendency for being kind of quiet and terse. As is his right (says the rest of the crew... but let’s be real, the biggest cheerleaders of this conduct would be Remus and Janus.)

I also think Roman is really good at the Service Voice... but he has a lot of trouble dropping it sometimes (curse of leaning so heavily on masking to survive). So like. When a shitty customer starts getting on the dude’s last nerve... expect some Stepford Smiler type of nonsense.

It works... sometimes.

And then we got Patton. Patton is sweet is but doesn’t sugarcoat things and cuts straight to the bullshit. He won’t pull any punches when he sees his kiddos (his students, child relatives... and the twins + Virgil) and friends (rest of crew, coworkers he likes/respects, his VA support group) being harmed. (Part of it’s because of his Army and Combat Medic Training/Service.)

Janus will totally sass the shit out of a fool, if they can get away with it. Janus is the highest monarch of pettiness in their group. That said, if they are dealing with clients that are receptive about their rehabs, they’re not unreasonable. It kinda depends on their spoon count in that moment, in all honesty.

Logan is kind of stilted about customer interactions, but is generally good at being cool and professional around them to help them. But whoo boy, when he gets the chance to vent about it later, he do be getting explode-y. Remus thinks it’s hot (in his own bellusexual way, of course).

Remus? Customer Voice? What’s that? (He’s just banned from the customer facing side of ANY operation. He does on-site IT work, but gets real antisocial real fast. Let’s just. Let’s just leave it at that.)

But despite his slight mischief he's absolutely essential. At some point he leaves for a week with out warning because of a family emergency or something which would be fine, except Logan's become really quite dependent on Roman for almost everything even non work related things. So that whole week Logan's showing up late to work like "I couldn't decide what to have for breakfast and I spent so long deciding I missed my bus and didn't end up eating anything" and he's missing meetings and work lunches and being generally cranky cause he doesn't have time to buy himself coffee so he's exhausted and when roman finally comes back Logan storms up to him all angry and says "you've ruined me! I used to be so capable and now without you I'm a bumbling fool and Roman just laughs and claps him on the shoulder "like aw I love you to spark point"

Also Logan and Patton totally do have a secret relationship, they just make out in Logan's office with the blinds drawn

Remy barely ever shows up for work but when he does he's hung over and screaming into his phone gossiping

Logan's always trying to raise office moral with silly work lunches but eventually Patton just takes over cause Logan's awful at it and they start going to pottery barns and laser tag

Eventually Virgil and Roman do become friends and their hangouts mostly consist of going to waffle house at 2am and getting drunk in taco bell parking lots

I know the argument could be made that the Sides were roleplaying Inside Out and so technically they didn't need to sound like themselves but ooh boy, I watched newest Asides and when Roman appeared I had no idea who he was supposed to be. And when Virgil showed up I literally would have not known it was him if it wasnt the eyeshadow. Like the Sides in the 2016-2020 vids all have very distinct voice inflections and word usage that helps define them as their own unique characters but the only Side whose voice felt distinct and true to themselves was Remus to a degree.

Even when they were "themselves" again, they didnt sound like themselves. It was so bizarre, it was like watching one of those AI deepfake videos.

And as much as I'd like to see the finale, I'm not sure if I want to see it with these versions of the characters. And in regards to this past year's "content" like, yeah I would've loved seeing some lighthearted filler content with the Sides several years back that were non-main series related, but this current year of Asides content has made it increasingly harder not to feel like Thomas is ready to move on creatively from SaSi, but he isn't willing to admit that to fans. Or at least be honest with fans that he wants to pursue other projects and maybe one day return to SaSi to give a finale.

In contrast to other content creators who are honest with their fans that there was a time they created "x content" and now they find it more fulfilling to create "y content", it just feels incredibly shitty for him to string fans along knowing his Sides content does more views than anything else (and im sorry but my toxic conspiracy theory is that there was a genuine spinoff series featuring Sasi!Roman but Thomas scrapped it and "refurbished" the idea to be Roleslaying and misled fans into thinking it was the spinoff sasi series because it would get the sasi fans in the door) and act passive-aggressive when fans express interest in Sasi content since he hasnt outright said anything about his feelings regarding SaSi.

Something of interest to note, Thomas was on a recent Smosh vid a few weeks back and when they did their usual spiel of "what can people expect to find you", he didnt promote Sanders Sides at all, just Roleslaying and his shorts content, which is like,,,, absolutely wild. I know Sanders Sides is on indefinite hiatus but if that doesnt show that he really wants new people who finds him to focus on his ongoing dnd series than SaSi, Idk what will.

so ill take some time to tell any newbies some fandom veteran unspoken rules or just remind people of things

There is not "wrong" versions of the egos!!! There are a million and one designs a for every ego depending on the blog, artist, writer etc. Every marvin looks like a wildly different character and people have their own headcannon personalities, genders, orientations and more for every ego. Some people have multiple aus and characters intertwined. So dont go telling anyone their version of the egos is incorrect or not accurate because these characters have been up for interpretation for a VERY long time so please remember that. If you dont like someones version of the egos or its not accurate to whatever cannon comes out, shut the fuck up and leave the one who created that version of said egos alone. All your ego designs are valid and creative and fantastic and dont drop them just for the cannon if you dont want to.

Ego shipping is fine! So far we have had no cannon confirmation to say that theyre siblings, the same person, or related in any way that would make ego shipping wrong. If that becomes the case, most people with either drop it or actively start making the egos their new OCs to continue shipping their personalities and designs. however, if that doesnt happen, dont bash people for shipping the egos. The sanders sides fandom and markiplier fandom get along just fine shipping characters played by the same guy so just be less judgy if you feel the need to tell people you dont like what they like. And if you really dont like it, its not that hard to just block an artist or ask them to tag their ship art and filter the tag. Its really not that deep so dont go sending anon hate to people for shipping the egos.

Dont be fucking rude. End of. Just dont be rude. If you dont like a blogs interpretation of the egos, just block them. Its not that hard. Be. Nice. Most of us are, but theres some bad apples so please dont be one of them and support artists and writters and editors you like and ignore others.

Ego cosplayers are fine and some of them are really cool and talented people so leave then alone with your hate. If you think theyre cringe, dont interact with their content. Sean has stated he likes them and/or apreciates their skills so dont send ego cosplayers hate. Support their talents god damnit.

Reblog, for the love of god reblog. We arent as big a fandom as we were and we have some serious talent in here. @leobashi @d-structive @tracobuttons @mythicalitycosplay @soopticboop @koryabeebee to name a few. And their content gets nowehere without reblogs. This isnt tiktok, therers no algorithm and liking does essentially nothing so boost content when you see it to make sure our artists remain motivated and adored as they deserve.

Share your content! We love to aee it and theres a criminally low amount of jse content on tumblr these days so give us all of it.

hey, gang!! i'm annie, you might know me from my main blog (@prodigal-explorer). this is my side blog, and it's a place for all things sanders sides whump! whump isn't a very big thing in this fandom, but i really love it and i think this fandom has so much whump potential.

to clear things up for anyone confused, whump is basically a genre of fanfic/headcanons/content where characters (they are called whumpees) are being hurt either by other characters (they are called whumpers) or by natural elements such as sickness and weather. sometimes, there are characters who help whumpees feel better, or protect them from whumpers (they are called caretakers). whump is sort of like hurt/comfort, but there's not always the guarantee of comfort. whether or not there's comfort is up to personal preference! when it comes to whump, pretty much any kind of pain/injury/hurt is on the table, so when engaging with it, it's important to read tags carefully, just for your own safety!

with this blog, the characters from sanders sides will be playing whumpees, whumpers, and caretakers in an assortment of ways! characters will not always be named. sometimes it will just be (side a) or (side b), or it will just be labeled as "whumper" or "whumpee" if i don't really have a sanders sides character in mind for the scenario.

Back on the Sanders Sides grind, and something that the fandom for forgets (but I hope the finale covers) is how much intense pressure the original 3 sides are under.

Like, Patton talks about it a little in POF, but it bears repeating that Logan, Patton, and Roman in particular have massive jobs compared to the others. The best way to chart it out is like this:

Remus has creativity/ideas that are outside the bounds of what is 'acceptable' to share.

Janus has deceit, the social/mental aspects of self-preservation, hiding things, and Thomas' wishes.

Virgil has anxiety, the physical symptoms of excitement and fear, excitement, being the figurative and literal 'alarm system', and self-preservation impulses.

Compared to that:

Roman watches over all creativity/ideas that are within the bounds of sharing and making sure the ideas are executed in manner that feels satisfying, all things relating to romance and romantic feelings, ego, Thomas' left hand, and all impulses relating to romance, ego, creative endeavors, passion, and burnout.

Patton watches over all of morality and determining what should and should not be considered 'acceptable' for specific audiences, emotions and emotional responses, non-romantic love and certain elements of romantic love when it mixes with platonic love, the inner child, memories when they are connected to emotional triggers, and any impulses not already taken by the others.

Logan watches over all logical functions that keep everything stable and running, all knowledge and memory that is not connected to an emotional trigger, keeping a schedule and keeping on that schedule, the truth, Thomas' physical body, Thomas' right hand, and most (but not all) nerdy interests.

While this is a bit of an exaggeration (the others do have certain jobs that are more detailed than stated here, the amount they take on shifts as more sides are introduced, and we're not sure exactly the extent of each side's jobs), it still shows just how much pressure is on the original three. And I hope that is discussed, because something's bound to break if it's not talked about soon...

I thought it was ok…it’s nice that the sides did a Christmas swap again! Though I feel like the last one was better? More heartfelt. Defiantly hate the random Logan angst….but now I’m confused about the timeline. Wasn’t the main series in the summer?

(so asides aren't like "canon" they're silly little episodes that aren't part of the main timeline.)

WOOOO IT WASN'T ANOTHER FUCKING AD FOR MERCH. I thought it would be, especially with that fucking title I thought it'd be like the plushie ad. But it wasn't. (No one should be celebrating that this was non ad content.)

but yeah, it feels like there's been a lot of focus on Logan recently. Like, why not go back to Virgil's big "I was one of them" reveal and have him be tense and nervous because Remus and Janus are coming. So they try to figure out why, and it's revealed he like, stole Janus's hat to give to him as his present and stole something of Remus's to do the same. Silly fun time with some "angst" about the key plot point it really feels like Thomas has forgotton about in favor of Logan and the Orange side.

Or focus on Patton getting everyone perfect gifts while he gets nothing. Like how parents will get their kids gifts and get nothing, or bad gifts in return. Little bit of angst with a lesson about caring about your parents.

Maybe Roman angst, everyone gets him something disney when what he really wanted was something non disney related but everyone thought he was kidding because he's Roman and he's a prince why would he want something so mundane and boring? Orrr makes it better and have Remus be the one to get something Roman actually wanted and they have a little moment where Roman's like "maybe you're not that bad" and then Remus immediatly proves him wrong and makes everyone scream.

Anything but more Logan angst. There's too much of it. Focus on another character Thomas, PLEASE.

(Also, there was more wine mom Janus content, ffs, it's not funny anymore, also he seemed a little ooc? Anyone remember when Logan was the wine mom for a bit before switching it to Janus? That was weird huh)

everyone seems a lot more energetic, especially Roman and Patton. Everyone's everyoneing and holy shit I fucking laughed, it's a christmas miracle.

Also, maybe because it's been forever, but the aunt patty comment that might be alluding to Remus? Perfection. It's not shoved down your throat like the orange side stuff. (dear god I hate all the orange sides hints)

I don't have much to say about it overall, but watching them one after the other makes it so much clearer that something's missing from the new stuff

Soooo... guess who got really nostolgic while having a cold and binge-watched all of Sanders Sides again after almost a year?

For the last few days I have been sucked down a rabbit-hole of Fandercontent, and let me just say... while this fandom is so creative, there are just a few things I wish people utilized more in fics, you know?

(Disclaimer, I live on angst and the Dark Sides are my three favourite characters, so most of these are about both of those subjects. Also not a huge fan of non-mindscape au's, so these are all about canon-adjacent fanfiction. My only AU is Sympathetic Dark Sides where they all coexist. Yes, even Remus.)

First and foremost, and this is what inspired this post until I found more things after, why do I see so few fics that include Virgil's Dark Side Voice™? It happens whenever he get's too stressed in canon, and from how he reacts whenever it happens, it seems to be a bit of an insecurity for him. Why aren't angst authors jumping on that?

Guys. We... we all saw the end-card of Flirt or Flight, right? How come so few do anything regarding Virgil's colour-changing eyeshadow? It's adorable, it's gorgeous, talk about it, please!

When Janus takes off the gloves in order to show himself to be truthful about his name... why??? He did that for a reason. If it was just about the typical "Cross my heart" pose, there was nothing stopping him from leaving on the gloves unless their was a reason to take them off! Theorize, go nuts! (I personally believe that his scales fluctuate in their coverage of his skin, and his hands being completely human shows that he's being honest. He wears gloves to make his lies less obvious.)

And on the subject of Janus' lies, has anybody else realized that for the embodiment of Thomas' Deceitfulness... he's actually kind of a terrible liar? While disguised as other sides, he always drops some pretty obvious hints that he's not the real Patton or Logan. And whenever he does his whole "speaking in lies" thing, he has this tone about him that makes it clear to... almost everyone, (Cough cough except Roman apparently), that he's lying, or atleast just being sarcastic?

In the Five Year Anniversary special, Virgil, Remus, and Janus refer to themselves as the Cousin, Uncle, and Aunt respectively. And I know that there actually is a fair amount of content about the Dark Sides being a seperate but related family, but I just feel like not many people talk about the low-key confirmation of that as a reality, ya know?

More.👏 Protective.👏 Dark Sides.👏 They've known eachother for so long, no matter how close the whole family is, Virgil, Remus and Janus would naturally know eachother better than any of the others.

If we are to assume that Janus even just unstably co-exists with the Light Sides, (like pre-redemption Virgil), post-Redux, but Remus doesn't... Well, that's the third person that Remus actually has a connection to that just... left him. First Roman, then Virgil, now Janus. (I personally believe that the Orange side will just be an Unsympathetic Dick, so he doesn't count, but that's just me.)

I am a "Former Paranoia Virgil" Truther, as are many others in the fandom. However, something I wish I saw more of is others not catching themselves when calling Virgil paranoid. Even better, the Dark Sides not realising how much thinking of that part of his past affects him, thinking nothing of it and then feeling really guilty.

And that's all the canon-supported stuff, but just... one last thing. Consider the following:

The Orange Side is a relatively new "Relevant" or "Consious" Side, his existance only needed when suddenly there were only two Dark Sides and still three Light Sides

Janus is Patton's foil because he represents an "immoral" side to Thomas, and Remus is Roman's foil as a flip-side to one, single concept. Virgil used to be Logan's foil before his redemption, because senseless overthinking and paranoia defies logic.

This need for a foil doesn't apply to Virgil, because he is no longer a Dark Side, but he isn't really a Light Side either. A Grey Side, if you will.

Virgil encompasses both the good and bad aspects of Anxiety, and is even capable of representing more of an excitement or sense of anticipation, hence the purple eyeshadow seen in Fight or Flirt. He is his own foil in the same way that Roman and Remus are eachother's. They're the good and bad of creativity, Virgil is the good and bad of anxiety.

I am most likely not the first person to come up with this, but this is just my specific take.

Anyway, I am probably going to go write atleast half of these prompts myself, so if any of these concepts interest you... maybe stick around?

Today, the right-wing satire website ran the article "Scientists Unveil Periodic Table Of Genders." Even ignoring the fact that this is the millionth or so time they've run a joke similar to this--you do realize what this implies, right? That the side in favor of transgender rights and who affirms non-binary identities have science on their side while you guys don't. In fact, this is even quite similar to a pro-transgender rights meme I saw posted a few years back.

Fourth Place: Matt Gaetz

The Hill reports today "Gaetz introduces legislation to end ‘unqualified’ birthright citizenship." Of course, given birthright citizenship has been upheld by the Supreme Court, repealing it would require a Constitutional Amendment, not just an act of Congress--something Matt would know if he took even the basic class on how our government works.

It should also be noted that Matt is trying to use this bill “to reflect the original intent of the 14th Amendment’s ‘subject to the jurisdiction thereof’ clause,” which refers to a part which quite literally reads that citizenship applies to everyone “born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof.”  If the original intent of that language was not that everybody born in the United States is automatically a citizen, which was the understanding held by the Senate when the Amendment was passed (as seen by a Senate Judiciary Report regarding the Amendment) and by then-President Andrew Johnson, then somebody should really have told those who wrote it to use different words.

This is a small aside, but one thing you'll notice if you listen to the rhetoric the right pushes on the Constitution is that they always seem to think the people who wrote it put some Asterix next to each part that implies something they wish it didn't which the rest of us are just too blind to see but totally shows the amendment is counter to everything they don't like. Although I am not going to sit here and pretend like the left can be guilty of the same thing--especially regarding the Second Amendment--it is not only worth pointing out that the right does it far more, but also that the right does it exclusively to take away the rights and freedoms of American citizens--or, in the case of Matt right here, to take away the status of citizen from millions of people.

Third Place: Hillary Clinton

Regarding the recent heat wave sweeping the country, the former Secretary of State wrote on Twitter:

Hot enough for you? Thank a MAGA Republican. Or better yet, vote them out of office.

First off, why the MAGA Republicans specifically? Don't Reagan and Bush Republicans also have a great deal of responsibility? How about Gingrich Republicans--you know, the ones who literally did everything possible to stop the environmental progress your husband's second in command tried to make!

Let's not forget that this is the same woman who dropped references to Climate Change from her speeches during her 2016 Presidential Campaign after Bernie Sanders endorsed her, who refused to endorse a carbon tax, and who encouraged other countries to embrace fracking as Secretary of State.

Second Place: Greg Gutfeld

It's not everyday the Auschwitz Museum feels the need to condemn something said on cable news, but Gutfeld's provided just such an occasion. Specifically, the organization criticized the Fox News host's use of Viktor Frankl's book Man's Search For Meaning while defending Florida's educational standards which say that slaves learned useful skills during their enslavement, in response to the Jewish Jessica Tarlov bringing up a hypothetical similar situation related to the holocaust. His statement was the following:

Did you ever read Man’s Search for Meaning? Vik Frankel talks about how you had to survive in a concentration camp by having skills. You had to be useful. Utility, utility kept you alive!

Can we just talk about the implication that the Jews who died in the Holocaust did so because of lack of skill? What the fuck, Greg?

Winner: Ron DeSantis

I am honestly starting to believe that the DeSantis campaign is run by people who really don't want DeSantis to be President. Remember that ad late last month which called Donald Trump to much of an LGBT ally that was put out by a pro-DeSantis Twitter account? It turns out the DeSantis campaign made that ad internally and then gave it to this account in hopes of passing it off as something done by a crazed supporter. Said ad was mocked all across the internet both for the idiotic claim that Trump was some stern fighter for the rights of LGBT people and also because DeSantis was trying to run to the right on an issue that many Americans no longer agree with the right on.

At this point, all one really has to do if they one to debunk the idea of a DeSantis nomination is point out how badly Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum, and Ted Cruz all did when they ran on platforms rather similar to DeSantis back in 2008, 2012, and 2016 respectively. The fact is that every Republican Presidential Primary for the past decade or so has featured one candidate who is the preferred President of the nutjobs and, although they do a good job being second place, they never progress past that. The average American--fuck, the average Republican--does not want what these people sell, and the reason is because they understand that hating other people isn't going to improve their lives, while hate is the only thing these people offer.

Ron DeSantis, you've done the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

from what i can tell..
