TO TAME THE WOLF                                   (UNEDITED)                                       CHAPTER TWO

When the great door opened out of nowhere Euphora began to panic, “Calm down, the worst part is already over,” Deveron whispered in her, sending an involuntarily tingle down her spine, “Alright, alright I can do this,” she replied, straightening up. “Deveron Dragonhoard? What the hell do you think you’re doing here? And what is that at your side?” a tall man appeared with long white hair asked aggressively, “Nice to see you too Zeazar,” “I asked you a question Dragonhoard,” “Still Hephaestus’s lapdog I see,” “You know I was sworn to honor whoever wear’s that crown,” “Even a murderer,” “What you speak of blasphemy and you know you can be executed for voicing such unfounded accusation against your King,” “Acting King and he isn’t mine. Now move aside jinn, before I make good on my previous promise,” “Neither you or that thing is getting in here,”  “Address my lady like that again and I’ll rip your throat out,” he said evenly, almost as if he was talking about the weather, but his body seemed to be on high alert ready to pounce at a moment’s notice and his pale blue eyes looked excited by the challenge, “Your la-,” “Brother, what are you doing aggravating the head of my royal guard? And why do I smell fox?” another man asked, appearing out nowhere next to Zeazar. It was the Anti-Deveron and she couldn’t help but admire him, then scan Deveron and then back at the man again. Hephaestus Dragonhoard was a stunningly handsome man, with smooth palomino skin and deep indigo colored eyes. Unlike Deveron’s harsh looking features, Hephaestus’s was calmer almost as if he didn’t have a care in the world. ‘Looking like that he probably didn’t!’ she thought mildly. His hair was blond and slightly wavy, falling right at the tip of his broad shoulders giving him a boyish sort of charm, which match his perfect physique. He looked like the prince-Cinderella danced with all night long and this may have been other woman’s fantasies, but it completely bored and scared her at the same time. It bored her because he looked as if he hadn’t struggled a day in his life or felt the need to. He was absent of true substance and held no real story. And it scared her because he was a little too perfect, no one could be that flawless and not have a dark spirit within, “You dare bring a Kitsune in my king’s presence!” “Calm down,  Zeazar” he reprimanded, “Your highness forgive me-,” “No need to apologize,” fanning him away like a fly and then he turned to Deveron, “I can’t believe I’m even asking this again, but is that really a fox at your side?” “She’s with me,” he replied simply, “She’s a fox,” he reiterated as if he thought Deveron hadn’t realized that, “And she’s with me. You’ve got a problem with that Heph?” he asked suggestively, almost as if he wanted him to so he’d have a reason to throw down with him. Hephaestus stared at him hard for a couple minutes and then folded his arms, “So tell me, why are you here after all this time?” he asked, “A promise I made to father,” Deveron answered evenly, “A promise? I heard of no such thing,” Hephaestus smirked, “That’s because it was between us,” he replied “Naturally,” Hephaestus snorted and Euphora felt the tension get so thick you could cut it with a knife, “And my conditions before I am able to challenge the throne,” he said and Euphora looked at him puzzled, ‘You never told me about this,’ she stated mentally making sure that they held a separate wavelength so there would be no eavesdropping or even anyone sensing they were having a mental conversation, ‘Not now,’ he replied quickly and her stomach did a little flip-flop. The connection was pretty intimate and his aura embraced hers fully, engulfing and becoming one with very senses almost as if it was made to do so, “You have got to be fucking kid-,” “Zeazar! I would like to listen to what my brother has to say, if you don’t mind,” Hephaestus snapped, silencing the obvious agitated jinn who stared at her like she was the foulest thing he’d ever seen, “I apologize again, your highness,” he bowed, “The four trails I must face,” Deveron continued, ‘Four trials? What the hell is this all about Dragonhoard and don’t try shut me up or I’ll nark,’ she mentally snapped staring back at the jinn unwaveringly, ‘You wouldn’t dare,’ ‘Try me,’ “Now that I’ve heard of, didn’t you chicken out at the last minute?” Hephaestus asked obviously mocking him, “I am here now and there’s no time limit is there?” he asked rhetorically as if Hephaestus hadn’t even spoken, ‘Fearing what Hephaestus might do my father made a law so that I can challenge the throne,’ ‘I gathered as much,’ ‘I told him he was overreacting, because I didn’t think the pretty-boy had it in him,’ ‘Why didn’t you tell me all of this sooner?’ ‘Would it have mattered?’ ‘Of course it matters,’ ‘It’s my problem, not yours’, he replied and she ignored the sting his reply triggered and blocked it from him as well, ‘That doesn’t mean I shouldn’t be privy to certain information which pertains to this sham,’ she replied, while she reminded herself that Deveron was the mark, not worth getting involved with, ‘You’re correct, I will no longer keep anything of importance from you, are you happy?’ ‘Very. Now tell me, do you honestly think Hephaestus killed your father?’ ‘It’s not what I think, it’s what I know,’ “Sorry to rain on your parade brother, but I am king now and my word is law,” “So now there’s a time limit?” ‘What are these… challenges? Are they dangerous?’ ‘I know you’re worried about your male, but there’s no need to I’ve got everything under control,’ he replied smugly, ‘Asshole!’ she snapped, although it did excite her when he’d referred to himself as ‘her male.’ “Yes and unfortunately you already crossed it,” Hephaestus replied nastily, but it seemed he was mistaken because not too long after Zeazar cleared his throat, “What is it now Zeazar?” The Jinn leaned in close to him and then whispered something in his ear, which made Hephaestus’s eyes widen and his jaw harden, “It seems since I am still three months away from my coronation and acting King I cannot erase the acts placed by the former one, as stated by Lycan law,” “I like the sound of that,” Deveron smiled, ‘You knew it didn’t you?’ ‘Knew what?’ ‘Don’t play dumb Dragonhoard you knew the laws couldn’t be changed,’ ‘And what if I did Kitsune?’ ‘Why did you let him think he’d won?’ ‘Cuz I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to witness the look on his face… priceless,’ “You still need to meet your four requirements,” “I actually also came to inform you that I’ve already accomplished one of them,” ‘You have?’ she asked puzzled yet again, what the hell did Deveron get her into? “And which one is it?” “Gentlemen, I would like you to meet Lady Euphora of the Kitsune Clan and my wife.”
