CWSG Fanvid idea?
A while ago I made *this* silly little post...
Now, I’ve stumbled across:
youtube
So, my obvious question is:
Has anyone made a Supergirl-Diversity fanvid with that song yet?
I vote:
Kara as Funshine Bear
Alex as Proud Heart Cat (doesn’t sing, is referenced to as “he”, but whatever...)
Nia as Wish Bear
Brainy as Bright Heart Racoon
Esme as Cheer Bear (bc she’s cute, okay!)
...and maybe Papa J’onn as Grumpy Bear (because everybody likes him, even if he tries to look stern)
others [Kelly, Psy, Livewire, Cat, Lena, Andrea, Winn, redD, Mxy, Barry, Nia’s roomie, Maggie, Spike, Sara, Leonard Snart...] to feature in the chorus
But I am not your mom, so whoever did or wants to do this, let your creativity flow~  ...all I ask is a link to the vid so I can indulge XD
❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤

Andrea did (almost) nothing wrong...
So, hot take from someone in the SG fandom, but Andrea did (almost) nothing wrong and I won't stand for the hate toward my sweet Argentinian bean from (way too many) fanfic authors who need a convenient evil ex for Lena.
I mean, yeah she stole the Acrata medallion from Lena, but her heart was in the right place, and she's the sort of wonderfully complex character who the CW's terrible decisions caused to be way less multidimensional than she should've/could've been.
And like, SC endgame and all, but also Andrea could've been a damn good romantic foil for Kara... Anyway, just a thought.

the argo trials: clothing
Ignore everything ever shown about Krypton's clothes for my fic because I hate them all. So here's what I think the vibe should be:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Long coats and warm high neck uniforms because it was supposed to be a cOLD WORLD on the brink of ending (a couple of versions show Krypton to have a cold climate and little flora and fauna because they used up their resources so I'm going with that)
So, it's mostly a mix between Syfy's Krypton clothes and other versions they've shown of Kryptonians on cwsg
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but because I thought they were boring I made up:
kehlish or honors, which are given to a kryptonian after a worthy deed.
They're useful to know how important or relevant a person is on Krypton. Say, they would be given to someone in the Military Guild after winning a battle (similar to how military men get their medals). They'd be given to someone in the Science Guild after making a new discovery or creating something new and useful. And so on.
They're sewed or embedded into their clothes and each one is different to the other, either in form or in color.
For example;
Kara's honors are stars on her long blue coat, kinda like this but instead of flowers, stars (1) while Zor-el's (2) and Alura's (3) would look like this:

Honestly, you are like the most based person ever. A Martian Manhunter fan and a MAWS critic? F YEAH!
I'm so disappointed with MAWS' Lois :( Her romance with Clark could've been so good. SO GOOD. But they decided to go for fan service instead. She just gives off Lena (from cwsg) vibes and that's never a good thing.
Speaking of Supergirl, what's your opinion on the show? And on the show's portrait of J'onn. It baffles me how much hate the show got for the same things fans are willing to overlook now on MAWS. Aren't those some double standards, geez...
Aw shucks thank you! 2 incredibly niche but based things to be...
Sob! Call it the ace in me but whenever people think MAWS!Clois have chemistry because they're easily amused by seeing hot characters undress I lose life force. I didn't witness a couple that grew mutual respect and affection, I saw an insta-crush that led to Lois becoming so entitled to a guy she'd known for less than a week to the point of demanding full transparency of his private life before they even started dating. And then the narrative says it's Clark's fault for having reasonable boundaries, and then they're a couple. What is this.
I've briefly talked about CW Supergirl before, but my takeaway is: if people think MAWS is genuinely good writing then they should absolutely watch CW Supergirl because it must look like high art in comparison to MAWS. Maybe people are less judgy when something's animated and that's not fair. If we want to take animation as a serious medium we should hold it to the same standard and not coddle it. As someone who watched a few eps when CW Supergirl aired and then revisited and watched the whole thing years after the show concluded, I feel that the misogyny surrounding people's discourse around the show has led to people judging the show based on a fanon idea of it rather than its own merits.
more under the cut!
CW Supergirl is a show with great highs and lows. This results in things being hit or miss. But when something hits- CW Supergirl is not given nearly enough credit as it deserves. As a Martian Manhunter fan, I believe that their take on J'onn is the most competent and well adapted in not just adapted media, but all of comics canon. That doesn't mean I like everything they did with his lore and character, but I can acknowledge that they actually bothered developing him outside of the comics/cartoon's fixation with making him mope about his Origin Story all the time. He gets to find love, have adopted daughters through Kara and Alex, reckon with what it's like to preserve aspects of a culture he doesn't fully identify with, deal with his dad going through Martian Alzheimer's disease, and most importantly MAKE PEACE WITH HIS BROTHER. CW Supergirl has hands down, the best take on Ma'alefa'ak in all of canon.
I think Lena is a great character on the show. She's dealing with the trauma of being constantly manipulated by her own family, the legacy her name carries and who she is in all that. But because the supercorp ship permeates the way people perceive the show, she's reduced to that by discourse. When Lena has drama over Kara's secret Superhero identity, it's something that's built up to and informed by trauma, trust-issues, and TIME. We are shown that she has these problems. It gets melodramatic at times, but it's still something that was built up to. Meanwhile in MAWS Lois just tells us she has daddy issues and that it's why she really needs the cute guy at work to spill all his personal info to her even though she gets to lie to him for her own personal gain multiple times. I appreciate what CW Supergirl did to bring more attention to what was an obscure character. Whenever I bump into Lena in the comics, it hasn't stacked up to the character I met on the show.
I've called this out before but while CW Supergirl isn't perfect by any means especially with their treatment of Jimmy Olsen as a love interest to Kara and a generally sidelined Black supporting character, they still discussed and acknowledged Jimmy's identity as a Black American man! Sure it was heavy handed many times, but that's way better than MAWS straight up ignoring Jimmy's Blackness and even making an unintentional jab at it!! Like cw Supergirl Jimmy knows bigotry and has experienced it. MAWS Jimmy thinks bigotry is being ghosted for a camping trip. I have seen the exact same critics call out cw Supergirl for Jimmy's treatment while gleefully thinking Jimmy's treatment in MAWS is so uwu perfect. It makes me sick! Am I going insane?? It's the double standards for me.

"when people refuse to understand the show's most important relationship was [the danvers sisters] <<<<<" dude not even the show, the writers nor the actors acted like they were the most important relationships after like season two
Buddy, while I'm not on the business of defending cwsg, of all shows, this is categorically not true. S4 in particular there is an entire arc of Kara going through it because Alex forgot that she was Supergirl in order to protect her, and how that fundamentally changed their relationship. Alex remembering Kara's identity was a significant part of the plot and how Kara survives RD.
S5/6 were a mess, but they always had Alex & Kara scenes that were staples of the entire show. And as stupid as I thought it was, their single episode fight in s6, was about how Kara's upbringing affected them both in different ways. Chyler and Melissa both dedicated a IG post with the last scene filmed with each other, in the couch, because of how seminal the Danvers sisters scenes were in the show.
In any case, my tag wasn't about the show itself, but how the fandom loves going overboard to villainize Alex. Like I agree she wasn't the best character, I fervently believe she's one of the most affected character because of writer's mood swings and how they wanted to manipulate the audience. But ignoring the fact that Alex and Kara's relationship is the most important one in the show, just because a person prefers any romantic relationship either of them had is just weird, imo. And that includes the show (i'm directly looking at the music meister episode)

the house of l: best episode of cwsg? discuss
You inspired me to look up clips from that ep. So good! Surely in the top 5.
4b in general had such a run of really strong episodes leading up to and including the finale and reveal. The stakes - the storytelling - the suspense - the humor - the epic intertwined El-Luthor-Danvers family drama!
One of many ways this episode punched me in the heart: the irony and tragedy of Red Daughter retaining a faint memory of the name Alex and thinking Lex was her beloved family … UGH.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And this The House of L deleted scene? Far from pedestrian … so much insight we get from their dialogue. Back when Lex was a genuinely compelling supervillain and most every scene with him in it was a Must Watch.
youtube
I feel a rewatch of 4b coming, now that I’ve had time to digest my annoyance with and disappointment in S5 and 6. :)

9 10 16 please? :D (cwsg, i’m sorry)
aye aye cap'n 🫡 under the cut for length
9. worst part of canon
I think it has to be Mon-El, who is so very terrible that even now he is stealing my ability to kvetch about other things. ...Luckily, this is my blog, so I can do what I want. So the other worst part of canon was the demonization and eventual murder of Manchester Black at J'onn's hands in the same season that saw James cozying up to the Children of Liberty (WHY) and the Superfriends insisting that killing them (the neo-Nazi analogues), even to prevent them from killing their marginalized alien targets, was Wrong and Bad.
(Crisis on Earth-X was pretty bad, too. Not sure how it didn't occur to any of the higher-ups that putting their heroes in Nazi uniforms in order to make them ~Cool Villains~ was maybe kind of a super fucking antisemitic thing to do.)
10. worst part of fanon
I was sorely tempted to just answer this with "el problema es el racismo," but thinking on it further that is technically the worst part of fandom, whereas fanon is generally understood to mean (a) post-colonial Marxist philosopher Frantz Fanon or (b) fan-constructed canon, i.e. headcanons that have become popular and widely accepted by many people in a fandom (sometimes to the point where people mistakenly believe that these headcanons are canon). I've already talked about my problems with the "Kara is a genius"/"Krypton is Advanced™ and Earth is Primitive™" take, as well as the "Lena never really cared about James" take; other popular fanon ideas I can't stand include "Clark is an asshole" (no >:( I like Clark), "J'onn is Alex and Kara's space dad" (citation needed), and "Eliza Danvers is the best mom ever" (when, lest we forget, Alex's whole Deal is a direct result of her Not being the best mom ever lol). Um...there's probably more but to be honest I'm blanking on what they would be.
16. you can’t understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)
Hm, well, I could talk about general fanfic tropes I don't get but I prefer to stay fandom-specific in order to maximize damage from my biting and maiming. So I'll just expand on what I commented on your earlier post: I don't understand the appeal of the trope where Kara shows Lena Disney movies or imparts upon her the True Meaning of Christmas and thus transforms her life from one of forever sadness to one of joyful bliss. I'm not saying I don't like fics where Kara's presence in Lena's life improves her life -- ideally, I would imagine that both of them improve each other's lives. But the specific trope of "OMG, Lena had an abnormally wealthy and abusive childhood and thus has never done [normative thing for American (Christian) children to do that there is no canon evidence she hasn't done and also that is not necessary for healthy childhood psychological development], we must rectify this immediately!!!" baffles me.

When I asked which your favorite job for Kara was, I had in mind that a while ago I saw another Supergirl fan say in a reading order they enjoyed Kara as an actress so I was wondering what other people who have read old Supergirl comics think. So I took that person's opinion as an inspiration to ask that. And I was today years old when I found out you give me the inspiration to ask you that question... Because you are in fact argoscity. Is that what it feels like finding out Clark is Superman?
😭😭😭 i love that you made that connection. yeah that's me. i wanted to put more comic content in the kara tag but i didn't want to mix that with my personal posts and whatnot so i made a separate blog and just never felt like mentioning that it was mine lmao.

i am both indecisive and greedy so if it’s okay with you i’m asking for 3 or 4 (whichever fits your answer better!), 12, 22 (dealers choice but hopefully someone in cwsg?) enjoy class bud
lmaoo i will answer all of them because why not
3. NoTP?
lmaoo for supergirl, probably agentcorp. i just cannot get into it and i don't wanna LOL
4. Is there a popular pairing you don't necessarily dislike but aren't too invested in?
lmao like in the fandoms im in? not really? all my ships are the most popular ones
12. answered but there is hope that my brain might conjure up a decent idea
22. Give us a headcanon for [character]
my chosen character is sam
i headcanon that sam* has a standing meeting with PW every weekend for 2 hours in the middle of either saturday or sunday where she pawns off ruby on a playdate or a babysitter or lena and she goes through a list of cafes throughout the city, gets herself some coffee and People Watches. one, so she can have a break from parenting to recharge. sometimes she thinks about how her life would have turned if she never had ruby. or if, like, she lived the life of whoever she's watching. sometimes a man or a woman comes up to her and asks her out, but she always says no. she's been tempted to say yes, but she always ends up saying no. she's racked up a not-insignificant stack of cards and napkins with phone numbers. but she just...doesn't know how to be that person. but she's not unhappy, she just knows that it's not for her. one day, she thinks she'll say yes. but so far, she's just said no.
for something sillier, i'd add that she tries about a new cafe each time and writes out a little coffee blog about each one and she's garnered a following but she's pretty top secret about it so nobody knows it's her
ask game

Same anon as the last two asks here. About the favoritism, it's defiantly there lol. I got introduced to DC and the comics trough cwsg and I was in the fandom since late 2017/early 2018. I was there from the very beginning of Dreamer's story and I've been following Nicole Maines since 2018, watching (almost) every interview. You know, the whole fan shtick. I love Nicole, she is cool, funny and all around amazing. I think she has talent for telling stories. I even watched a bad vampire movie once because she was in it. But my love for Nicole Maines isn't the point here. Matter of fact, I actually don't know what's the point here. I'm just yapping, sorry. Anyways. Back on track.
I can't deny Nicole isn't the biggest Nia Nal fan out there lol. It's endearing how much she loves and cares for Nia. She is her biggest hype girl. If nobody's got Nia, Nicole does. But of course she'd be a Dreamer fan, she was the one to bring Nia to life. And she gets to do it again now, by being her writer.
And that love for the character can easily turn into favoritism. Which isn't the problem itself. Also, it's not always a bad thing. Many other writers do it too. I don't mind when writers write characters they love. I hate when they throw other character under the bus to help develop the story. Alas, we are yet to see if that's the case with Dreamer, Jay and Sara.
Don't have much to add to this because I agree with what there is to agree on, so I guess now I'm just rambling to ramble
